Riverfronts and greenways are our retreat to nature within the urban setting. They provide connections, opportunity for recreation, habitat for flora and fauna, and most importantly spaces that encourage exercise and social interaction. When these areas are located within the urban context, they are especially susceptible to the degradation that comes with the development of an area such as pollution, erosion, and in some cases lack of care or maintenance. The riverfront in Wichita suffers from three hindrances that restrict it from becoming an asset to the community and compromises human and ecological health along the river. Limited accessibility, a lack of recreational amenities, and poor environmental quality all contribute to the river being under-utilized. While these three elements compromise the site, the location makes it a prime candidate for transformation, creating a cohesive riverfront that has great potential to be utilized by the residents of a quickly growing downtown area. Through the establishment of these dilemmas a framework that focuses on the access and awareness, recreational amenities, and corridor enhancement can then be applied to the Wichita Riverfront. The Wichita Riverfront will encompass active and passive recreation that promotes human health through exercise, social interaction, and improved ecological conditions.

Pełny tekst źródłaThis study assessed the motivation and interest in outdoor recreation activities as facilitated by a campus recreation center. The sample consisted of college students enrolled in recreation and kinesiology general education courses at a four-year public California university, and student users of the Student Recreation and Wellness Center. The study assessed each student's previous twelve month participation in outdoor recreation activities, their preference of who they would like to participate in these activities with, the reasons why they participate in outdoor recreation activities, and demographic information. The questionnaire used to collect data was the Motives for Physical Activities Measure – Revised (MPAM – R) modified to MPAM – R + Nature, which assessed the motivational factors of Interest/Enjoyment, Competence, Appearance, Fitness, Social, and, Affinity for Nature.
Results revealed that there was not a difference in the six motivational factors and high versus low motivation to participate in outdoor recreation activities. However, when respondents were grouped as having a high score on intrinsic factors (interest/enjoyment, competence, nature, and social) versus high scores on the extrinsic factors (fitness and appearance), those respondents who were highly motivated showed more interest in outdoor recreation participation. The research also showed most respondents preferred participating with friends or in groups, regardless of the outdoor activity. The evidence from this study suggests that students who are interested in outdoor recreation activities are not distinct or unique based on demographic variables. However, the results did reveal that males were more motivated by competence. Overall, students who participate in outdoor recreation activity are motivated more by companionship preferences. This research supports the idea that social interactions, whether with friends or with a group or class, are important to students.

Based on the theories building in the fields of social psychology, consumer and recreation behavior, this research discussed the concept of involvement an individual had for a recreational activity and the properties of its components in the context of entirely social environment. The research tried to measure the construct of recreation involvement with regard to domestic travel from both social psychological and behavioral aspects, explored the impact of touristic socio-demographic characteristics on the dimensions of recreation involvement, and understood the relationship between recreation involvement and recreation attributes evaluated, which could be for marketers to hold the sophisticated interaction between an individual and recreation attributes and for recreational service agencies to provide reference with developing marketing strategies. The results showed that recreation involvement was the multidimensional nature of the construct and its characterstics would be specified simultaneously in terms of social psychological and behavioral involvement profiles. Second, as hypothesized, through the analysis of variance, the results indicated that individual differences might affect the structure related to involvement. With the exception of the variable, the number of children being present at home, recreation involvement was found to be related to sex, age, marital status, occupation, education, income, and the differences in involvement are also significant among the groups. Third, one-way ANOVA of the factor scores confirmed that four subgroups of domestic travelers, each of which showed different recreation involvement profiles, had significant differences in evaluating recreation attributes when making recreaional trip decisions. Furthermore, through a discriminant analysis, findings revealed that recreation involvement was moderately conducive of choice of recreation setting. In the study area, the derived measure of importance-meaning was the most powerful contributor and social connection was the least one. As a whole, this research demonstrated that involvement had potential effect on individuals evaluating recreation attributes and making decisions about travel destinations, and its nature might be grasped through personal variables. Therefore, it was a critical factor to study the leisure experience. Besides, researcher also proposed communication strategies to different target markets and the directions of the future research. It hoped to contribute to drawing marketing plans and understanding certain aspects of leisure behavior in future.

This study assessed the behavioral model of forest recreation area using latent variables of recreational experiences, recreational involvement, satisfaction, and after-travel behavior, travel characteristics, and elemental data of tourists at Sun-Link-Sea forest recreation area. The questionnaire survey was performed from 15 to 22 April, 18 to 30 July, 10 to 19 October 2007, and 9 to 12 February, 2008. Respondents were sampled via a systematic sampling method (1 tourist out of every 20 was sampled) between 0900 and 1700 hours at exits areas while they were leaving. A total of 893 questionnaires were handed out, with 111 tourists refusing to participate and 17 questionnaires being incomplete and thereby invalid, leaving a total of 795 valid questionnaires. Descriptive statistics of socio-demographic and travel characteristics were analyzed using SPSS 12.0. The confirmatory factor analysis and structural equation model analysis were analyzed using LISREL 8.70 for windows. All parameters were estimated by maximum likelihood method. Mainly descriptive findings were as follows: 54.5% were male;51.3% were married;34.3% aged from 21 to 30 years old;61.4% were college educated;18.6% were students;36.7% lived in the center of Taiwan;and 36.3% had monthly incomes of NT $20,000 to 40,000. Empirical results indicated that recreational experiences significantly affected the satisfaction directly and affected the after-travel behavior indirectly. Recreational experiences significantly affected the after-travel behavior directly. Leisure involvement significantly affected the satisfaction directly and affected the after-travel behavior indirectly. Satisfaction significantly affected the after-travel behavior directly.

The development of camper vehicles in Taiwan began to accelerate rapidly in the early 1990s. After over a decade of evolution and effort, many camping vehicle agents began to compete in the Taiwanese camper vehicle market. This study aims to explore the personal, psychological, and behavioral aspects of camper recreational participants. The traits, selection, and assessment of the properties of the environmental base for these activities are primarily based on the theories of recreation specialization proposed by Bryan (1977), and the concept of extension proposed by Kristof (1996), Cao Shengxiong, and Lin Wei (2012). This project proposes the idea of recreationist-environment fit (also called RE fit or recreational fitment), which extends the theoretical concept of the interaction between man and the environment to the recreational field, and involves specialization in recreation, recreational and environmental attribute variables, demographic statistics, and participation in variable activities, using empirical research methods such as questionnaires to collect data. A total of 377 valid questionnaires were obtained, and hypotheses were put forward through a literature review and an evaluation of related theories. The hypotheses of this study were tested using the collected data. The results of the study show that participants in the camper car activities analyzed by this survey have a background variable distribution of socio-economic background, mainly as pertains to gender, which focuses heavily on the male population; an age range from 41–50 years old; academic qualifications primarily of university graduates; a marital status of married with children; an average monthly income between 20,001–40,000 yuan; an occupation of primarily military police; and a place of residence mostly in the northern region. The time for camper activities is mostly 2-4 years. The cost of camper-related vehicles is generally less than 20,000 yuan. This study found that participant population changes (age, gender, academic qualifications, marriage, average monthly income, occupation, place of residence, duration of camper activities, average annual cost of camper-related activities) affect recreational involvement (self-fulfillment, attraction, centrality, recreation specialization, commitment, technology and knowledge, behavior, choice of recreational environment attributes, facility, wilderness, reception, management, socialization, congestion). The study also found that recreational involvement (attraction, self-actualization, and centrality) positively affects recreational specialization (commitment, technology, knowledge, and behavior). Recreational involvement (self-actualization, attraction, and centrality) can also affect recreational property selection (facility, wilderness, reception, management, socialization, congestion). Furthermore, the recreational activities of participants in recreational vehicle camping activities affected specialization (promise, technology, and knowledge), and their behavior influenced recreational property selection (facility, wilderness, reception, management, socialization, crowding). Finally, these research results can provide important insights into effective regulations for government agencies, as well as management methods for camper vehicles and related businesses to plan camper car sites and promote camper car activities.

As leisure time and per capita increase﹐and especially now people have two days off every two week, more leisure time is available to get enough relax. Since the situation changed , estimation of recreation resource become the most important and necessary work. However, the recreation effects are non-market goods which price cannot be obtained from the real markets. The value of recreational effects has to be evaluated by the non- market goods valuation approach. The travel cost method (TCM) have been widely used and improved since it was developed in 1966. TCM assumes that the cost, which includes travel cost, time cost, fees, lodges, etc., are the price of using recreation effects. Thus, the demand function can be obtained from the regression between cost and visiting times. Then the values of recreation benefit can be measured from this demand function. This study investigate travel cost of visitors in Au-Wan-Da forest recreation area, divide all data into two groups, purposeful visitors and meander visitors, and compare the recreation benefit of these two data sets by using linear-log function. The benefits of Au-Wan-Da forest recreation area are NT 1021 dollars for purposeful and meander visitors and NT 878 dollars for purposeful visitors.

This dissertation focuses on the applications of game theory and optimal control theory to the study of tourist’s recreation choices, revenue management, and recreational specialization in a recreation and leisure industry. The applications present the process of model building, the process of transforming an informal description of recreation-related decision issues to a formal game theory and optimal control problems. There are three essays in the dissertation. The first essay investigates the effects of tourist’s recreation choices and lifestyle, the numbers of local habitant, and agricultural product differentiation upon local habitant benefits, recreational firms’ profits, and the share of firm’s profit with local habitants in a scenic area. It develops a recreation economics model to address the above effects. It shows that when the tourists belong to the positive bandwagon group and choose the firm-specific scenic resort, the firm’s profit is higher as compared to that of under the scenic-specific area effect. The second essay applies the game theory to set up a recreation economics model in which the effects of differentiated tipping systems on firms’ profits, tourist’s consumer surplus, and social welfare are investigated. It demonstrates that firms exert the differentiated tipping systems can increase both consumer surplus and social welfare. The third essay uses an optimal control approach to analyze the case under which a tourist invests his recreation specialization input in pursuing tourism experience and taste to get valuable tourism cognition and the sense of place attachment. It shows that the tourist may not invest recreational experience input in the period of his recreation lifetime as the recreational experience input is relatively harder.

Recreation is an activity that provides amusement and satisf- action in leisure. As fast economy development in Taiwan, the qu- ality of recreation activity and the set of recreation area were considered by people. They are not only tourists'' hopes but also targets for manager, to eliminate exhaustion, to promote harmony and emotion with family, and to get wonderful experience by parti- cipating in recreation activities. In particular, the recreation area have drastically increased at present. In addition to resou- rces and characteristics of the recreation area, the location and environment quality are also important to attract tourists to co- me to get well experience and satisfaction. The allocation of recreation activities will directly influe- nce the attraction of reserves. In this research, based on viewp- oint of recreation experiences by tourists, we investigate the i- mportance of environment for the set of various activities as the analysis of recreation activity area allocation and we study the characteristics of hill land to seek for substantial environment factors which impact the distribution of recreation activities. Through questionnaire survey , we calculate the weight of factors and use the Geography Information System(GIS) to analyze. We are going to establish the suitable recreation area on hill land whe- re the assessment model of activity area location and substanti- al environmental standard for setting activity is according to t- he tourists'' experiences. We hope to advise the decision-maker to select and consider the substantial environment experience for the land use design when the recreation area was developed. To get well interactions between the location of recreation area and ex- perience of tourists and make use of the resources of recreation activities on hill land effectively. In the actual example our planning sphere was Lu-Lao Shi Reservoir recreation area.

This thesis is about the “ Conflict、Recreation and Unity” . The conflict inside of my mind inspired by facing the realistic world. I expect to go over and relax the pressure of life through a kind of self-introspect or belief in religion. There are five chapters in this thesis. The first chapter is an introduction of this dissertation. The second chapter is about the three steps of creation. During this chapter, I will expound the creative thinking in every step. Section one relates the inner conflict and the confusion of mental. Section two is the “ yearn after collapse”,even the “ hope from shock”. Section three is about to return back “Unity”. All these are my feeling and thinking about the whole environment of the world. In the first step, after I had an overview of the history between the West and China, I find, in the West, “ War” made people fear and uneasy on their mind as they went through two World Wars from the Industrial Revolution to the twentieth century. So, people started to think about one question , “What’s the worth of life?” , they doubted. At that moment, “Existentialism” was proposed. It’s the same in Chinese philosophy, people got the idea under suffering the turbulence of country. “War” kept going on during the period of Han , Wei, Jin and the South & North Dynasty. Men felt painful after battle by battle. They thought all the benevolence & righteousness, virtue and morality are nothing. The meaning of human being’s existence became more important. In the second step, based on the theory of psychoanalysis, I explore the problem of how did the people depend on their dream to show the inside world of their subconscious mind. They desired much to relax pressure by means of dream. Or just like the Zhuang Zi’s philosophy to “forget” fame and wealth by learning “forgetfulness” , or just by means of religion…….In the third step, I would like to be an onlooker to see the human history of the past and in the future. In chapter three, I analyze gradually on the technique and the style of my work, including the medias, forms, compositions and signs that I used. Thus, I ponder it much over the Surrealism and Metaphysical painting. In chapter four, this is for the appreciation and analysis of my work. I present eight pieces of work.
