Streszczenie:
Development of high-speed railways set up challenges for new communication technologies. With the increase in speed, new requirements for communication systems have emerged that HSR requires greater reliability, capacity and shorter response time for efficient and safe operations. Mobile communication systems are crucial for the competitiveness of the railway industry and therefore have become one of the priorities addressed by the participants in the railway system to take advantage of technological opportunities to improve operational processes and the quality of provided transport services. The European Rail Traffic Management System (ERTMS) uses the Global System for Mobile Communications for Railways (GSM-R) for voice and data communication to communicate between trains and control centers. The International Railway Union is exploring new ways of communicating for high-speed railways because as speed increases this system becomes unreliable in information transmission. This paperwork presents an analysis of the evolution of communications on European railways since the usage of GSM-R. In addition, an overview of the various alternative solutions proposed during the time (LTE-R, Future Railway Mobile Communication System) as possible successors to GSM-R technology is given.

Streszczenie:
With the evolution of technology that has occurred in digital systems, new services have appeared that can be applied in railways. Radio communications play an important role in the management of, exploration and maintenance of railway transports. Due to the importance of efficient service delivery and security in railways, there is need to integrate the use of the Global System for Mobile communication and global positioning systems. Transportation is a large and important part of the economy of any country. Railway transportation is one of the main transportation systems worldwide. To this effect, we should have a good and strong monitoring system that can locate a train at every instant. In this research, a proposal has been made for the implementation of a Global Positioning System (GPS) and global system for mobile communication (GSM) based train monitoring system on Tanzania Zambia Railway Authority (TAZARA) railway network that will enable controllers locate their trains at every instant. The GPS-GSM/GPRS (General Packet Radio System) module will be incorporated in the system. A GSM/GPRS module will transmit the location information to a web server. Every track and locomotive will be assigned a unique number for identification. The information of the train location will be continuously updated when the train is moving and the users will be accessing the information via the web. The updated information will be stored in the web server. Clients will request for particular train status and a designed web application will show the status in a Google map. An alternative radio voice communication system will be incorporated in the locomotives in case of failure on the monitoring system. This implementation will greatly improve service delivery to the company.

Streszczenie:
The Future Railway Mobile Communication System (FRMCS) has emerged as a worldwide standard for railway communication. This technology enables the operational efficiency and safety of railways to be improved by providing mission critical communications, machine-type communication for the railway system on board, in addition to trackside telemetry and broadband connectivity for passengers. Different equipment types, users, and functional identities can be involved in communication, and each of them is uniquely identified. Identity management is an important part of the security functions provided by the FRMCS system. This paper presents a service-oriented approach to identity management functionality, enabling service composition for railway applications and service virtualization. This paper studies functionality for the initial registration and subsequent deregistration of railway devices, users, and their functional identities, in addition to the transfer of the registered identities between different FRMCS serving areas while the train moves. Two FRMCS services that follow the principles of representational state transfer architecture are proposed. Services’ functionality is illustrated by use cases, data types, and application programming interfaces that enable services to be interacted with. Identity registration status models are developed, formally described, and mathematically verified. Discussion of the applicability of the proposed services for the implementation of FRMCS security and safety functions is provided. The presented service-oriented approach features a satisfactory level of flexibility and versatility.

Electricity is a primary concern everywhere and for everyone. In our daily transportation, we observe most of the time electricity is used unnecessarily and Electric short-circuits occur frequently. Railway coaches are mainly considered in this paper. We have described how to reduce electricity consumption in railway coaches using the raspberry pi and ultrasonic sensors interconnected to the cloud. Considering present smart coaches in railways, the passenger count and their comfort are taken as challenging, but not the production and conservation of electricity. The annual power consumption of Indian Railways is nearly 4% out of countries annual power consumption. Not only in railways systems, this can be further implemented in any other transport systems or in any platforms as well, by this we can reduce the human intervention. Where the loco pilot can control the electricity usage from his cabin, if not it is automated. However, the wireless communication technologies are secured by SSL (Secure Socket Layer). Simply we connect all the required interfaces to pi to acquire the output.

GSM-Railways (GSM-R), which is evolutionary railway mobile communication technology, are gradually replacing analogue radio systems. Although GSM-R is an impossible achievement in terms of European railway interoperability, from a telecommunication point of view, it is successive technology. This study present the transfer of a telecommunication standard to another railways and it studies whether the adoption of an upgraded version of the GSM standard (GSM‐R) turned out to be an efficient choice. The transfer and deployment of GSM‐R is technically importance to the success of another European railway project. The introduction of the new signaling system rests on achieving interoperability in radio‐communication. The study will focus on the GSM-R part of the ERTMS system and its interworking with ETCS.

Streszczenie:
Railway applications are in continuous evolution with the aim of offering a more efficient, sustainable, and safer transportation system for the users. Generally, these applications are constantly exchanging information between the systems onboard the train and the trackside through a wireless communication. Nowadays, Global System for Mobile communications-Railway (GSM-R) is the technology used by European Train Control System (ETCS), but it is becoming obsolete. Therefore, alternatives for this technology have to be found for the different railway applications. Its natural evolution is to move forward with the latest technology deployed: Long-Term Evolution (LTE), which the Public Land Mobile Networks (PLMN) have already deployed. Therefore, testing the performance of this communication technology in the railway environment could be useful to assess its suitability and reduce the cost of railway network dedicated deployment. In order to do that, a methodology to characterize the communication environment is proposed. The main goal is to measure geolocated impairments of any communication channel in a railway environment being able to determine its behavior of the different communication technologies and find out possible coverage issues. Moreover, it could help in the selection of suitable communication technology for railway. This paper presents a brief description of the communication for railways and its QoS parameters for performance measuring. Afterward, the testing methodology is described, and then, the communication channel measurement campaign on a real track in Spain where the railway environment is variable is presented (tunnels, rural/urban area…). Finally, the measurements and results on this real track in Spain are shown. The results provide suitability of the 4G technologies based on the delay requirements for the implementation of ETCS over it.

The Internet of Railways (IoR) network is made up of a variety of sensors, actuators, network layers, and communication systems that work together to build a railway system. The IoR’s success depends on effective communication. A network of railways uses a variety of protocols to share and transmit information amongst each other. Because of the widespread usage of wireless technology on trains, the entire system is susceptible to hacks. These hacks could lead to harmful behavior on the Internet of Railways if they spread sensitive data to an infected network or a fake user. For the previous few years, spotting IoR attacks has been incredibly challenging. To detect malicious intrusions, models based on machine learning and deep learning must still contend with the problem of selecting features. k-means clustering has been used for feature scoring and ranking because of this. To categorize attacks in two datasets, the Internet of Railways and the University of New South Wales, we employed a new neural network model, the extended neural network (ENN). Accuracy and precision were among the model’s strengths. According to our proposed ENN model, the feature-scoring technique performed well. The most accurate models in dataset 1 (UNSW-NB15) were based on deep neural networks (DNNs) (92.2%), long short-term memory LSTM (90.9%), and ENN (99.7%). To categorize attacks, the second dataset (IOR dataset) yielded the highest accuracy (99.3%) for ENN, followed by CNN (87%), LSTM (89%), and DNN (82.3%).

The article is devoted to the study, generalization and systematization of scientific knowledge about the history of the establishment, development and operation of the regional railway system in Bukovyna in the second half of XIX – early XX centuries. The authors attempted to analyze the process of creation and operation of railways in Bukovyna during the reign of the Austro-Hungarian Empire based on a wide range of previously unpublished archival documents, periodicals, statistical literature and memoirs. The article studies the development of organizational bases for the construction of railways, the activity of the communication network management, lists a whole range of requirements and tasks set for railway transport in Bukovyna, the progress of their implementation, considers successes and difficulties in this work. It is determined that private railways, as important transport arteries of Bukovyna, were of national importance and played a significant role in the transport system of Austria-Hungarian Empire. They served the leading economic districts of Bukovyna, acting as an integral part of production in each of them. In other words, they were used for development of local, intersectoral and interregional relations. Regional railways, first of all, played an important role in the social and economic life of Bukovyna region. In most cases, they did not carry the strategic cargo, but made it possible to connect the most remote corners of separate areas of the region into a single whole. In practice, local railways were a significant addition to the main central line, providing the latter with a greater intensity of cargo and passenger turnover and thus increasing their profitability. At the same time, the trade volume between the outskirts and the center of the Austro-Hungarian Empire was increased. It contributed to the intensification of economic development of certain districts of Bukovyna region.

Nowadays, a huge amount of data exchanges is needed in the railway system. This is particularly to support autonomous train, reduce operation and maintenance costs, increase safety and security. In the same time, many new services are offered to passengers. There is no unique technology that can satisfy all these needs. Consequently, different industrial and academical research projects are on-going at European and International levels to develop the Future Railway Mobile Communications System (FRMCS). FRMCS will be IP-based, adaptable, agnostic to radio technology and resilient to technological evolutions. In addition, it should support high data rate, low latency, large bandwidth, and efficient spectrum utilization. The FRMCS is expected to be able to choose in real time between different available radio access technologies in function of applications needs and the surrounding railway environment. Among these technologies, we can mention the Wi-Fi, LTE, satellites and the 5G NR standard in development. Thus, the contributions of this PhD thesis are part of the development of an Adaptable Communication System (ACS) for the railway by considering cutting-edge technologies of the future 5G NR system and beyond. Different key enabling technologies have been proposed recently under the umbrella of 5G and Beyond communication systems. Among which, radio access techniques play major role over key metrics, such as the efficient utilization of the available spectrum, the high data rates, and the computational complexity of the transceiver system. One of the major technological evolution in that domain concerns the introduction of different Multi-Carrier Modulation (MCM) and Non-Orthogonal Multiple Access (NOMA) techniques. In this Ph.D thesis, we start by considering the MCM technology in the context of high speed railway. A performance evaluation study is conducted where different MCM schemes are highlighted in different scenarios. The Filtered Bank Multi-Carrier (FBMC) waveform presents high robustness to high mobility scenarios while exploiting the available spectrum efficiently. However, FBMC advantages come with additional built-in interference that challenges traditional transceiver design techniques. Thereby, we propose different contributions that handle the channel estimation and equalization aspects of the FBMC waveform. The contributions aims to assure better performance at the cost of negligible additional complexity compared with the literature

Streszczenie:
Abstract The worldwide success of wireless communications was originally fueled by the possibility to replace existing cables with wireless solutions. This phenomenon imposed the development of security engineering as a multidisciplinary field. Although wireless solutions can reduce installation costs and allow introducing new services, the end–users expect it to have the same level of security as they would normally have with wired solutions. Secure communications is an important part of the overall security of industrial wireless communications systems (IWCS). The aim of this thesis is to develop new security engineering methodologies for IWCS. The author develops countermeasures against confidentiality and integrity attacks and carries out a security analysis covering the protocol, electromagnetic and physical layer. In the first part of the thesis, Host Identity Protocol (HIP) is utilized to secure communication in an intra–vehicular network. Simulations and measurement campaigns are also conducted to evaluate the impact of the overhead on security in a tunnel, considering line–of–sight (LOS) and non–LOS (NLOS) scenarios. Electromagnetic analysis (EMA) is an important step in the development of safety–related systems. Today, the increasing usage of smaller integrated circuit also increases the susceptibility to electromagnetic (EM) interference. From near–field (NF) to far–field (FF) transformation, a method for the evaluation of the emissions leakage is investigated. The virtual EM (VEM) interface of the device–under–test (DUT) is studied, and it is described how an adversary can exploit it for denial of service (DoS) attacks. An effective jamming attack model is studied, and the theoretical calculations are validated with experiment–based results. Finally, focusing attention on physical layer security, two algorithms are developed. Active radio frequency fingerprinting (RFF) implements the exchange of a public key during the setup of secure communication. Afterwards, utilizing a jamming receiver in conjunction with the spread spectrum (SS) watermarking technique, the watermark–based blind physical layer security (WBPLSec) protocol is presented. The analysis and results indicate how the WBPLSec seems to be a valuable technique for deploying physical layer security by creating a secure region around the receiver
Tiivistelmä Langattoman tietoliikenteen maailmanlaajuista suosiota kiihdytti alun perin mahdollisuus korvata tietoliikennejärjestelmissä käytetyt kaapelit langattomilla ratkaisuilla. Ilmiö lisäsi myös tarvetta kehittää alan turvatekniikkaa monialaisen tutkimuksen pohjalta. Vaikka langattomat ratkaisut merkitsevät pienempiä asennuskustannuksia ja tarjoavat mahdollisuuksia luoda uudenlaisia palveluja, järjestelmien loppukäyttäjät edellyttävät kuitenkin niiden turvallisuuden olevan vastaavalla tasolla kuin langallisissa verkoissa. Myös teollisuuden langattomien tietoliikennejärjestelmen turvallisuus riippuu pitkälti viestintäkanavien turvallisuudesta. Väitöksen tavoitteena on kehittää uusia menetelmiä, joilla teollisuuden langattomat tietoliikennejärjestelmät voitaisiin turvata. Lisäksi siinä kuvataan simulaatiot ja mittaushankkeet, joiden tavoitteena on arvioida käytetyn protokollan turvallisuusvaikutuksia esteettömän (line–of–sight, LOS) ja esteellisen (non–line–of–sight, NLOS) näköyhteyden tapauksissa. Sähkömagneettinen analyysi on tärkeä vaihe turvajärjestelmien kehitysprosessissa.

In this dissertation, we aim to analyze and overcome some issues in railway communication systems, including train-to-ground communications, in-train communications and in-station communications. For the train-to-ground communications, we discuss echo channel effect and define the corresponding criteria in a Time Division Duplexing (TDD) DAS railway com-munications system. Furthermore, timing drift problem while applying moving an-tenna selection technique to solve the echo channel effect is illustrated. Compensation algorithms then are proposed. Simulation results show that the proposed techniques can solve not only the interference problem in TDD-DAS, but also provide better scalability in system deployment. In the in-train and in-station communications, we consider a central-controlled D2D architecture, in which a cellular operator can decide whether mobile devices can connect to each other directly. We aim to maximize system throughput while also achieve fairness in resource allocation. An algorithm that separates resource frame into resource-dedicate area and resource-contention area for fairness and throughput improvement is proposed. The algorithm dynamically adjusts the boundary of the resource-dedicate area and resource-contention area. Criteria based on Proportional Fair (PF) metric are formulated. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm can maintain good fairness level and increase system throughput by exploring radio resource spatial reuse gain among D2D communication pairs.

In this thesis, we adopt the handover procedure that are defined in WiMAX standard, and study broadband wireless communication system on high speed railway. Because a high speed train runs on track have always a regular destination, and the target base station can be predicted before handover. Thus our research will focus on adjust traditional handover procedure of WiMAX according to characteristic conditions of high speed railway. Here, handover algorithms are based on relative receiver signal strength with hysteresis margin and absolute threshold. Time of signal lost and throughput are used as criteria for our handover performance evaluation that are obtained via radio propagation channel model at suburban areas. In simulation results, we will analysis performance on the proposed procedure and traditional procedure, and further compare efficiency of above performance criteria according to differently numerical combinations of hysteresis margin and absolute threshold.

This thesis discusses the benefits of using the powerline communication (PLC) as the technology to transmit the network packets instead of using the wireless communication system, such as cell phones, in an electrical railway system. An electrical railway system model with the data transmission using the powerline communication with mobile contacts in the power supply system is built. A track-powered model train module is used as the carrier of the mobile contact, which travels along the path of the power line. With this model, the simulation of the powerline communication applied to the electrical railway system, such as rapid transit system and high speed railways, is conducted, so are the measurements of data transmission and the performance evaluation under various speeds. In the end, the possible problems with the powerline communication being applied to the real world electrical railway systems are presented.

Now days, there are many power-line network products in the market for customers to purchase, such as a PLC Ethernet adapter. No need for extra Ethernet wires, just plug the adapter’s power line into an outlet then the computer could connect to the Internet through the power line. High-speed railway system, which power source is the power substation, the overhead supply system provides power line wires to connect both the power substation and the locomotive. If the power-line communication (PLC) network could be established, the passengers who sit on the train can use their mobile devices to surf the Internet. This paper provides an idea which is using power-line communication network working on the high-speed electrical railway system. In order to implement this idea, a high-speed railway simulation system must be built. With this system, it is possible to simulate the communication between internet servers and passengers’ mobile devices by using indoor power source. By observing the communication`s service quality, this paper could analyze the effects which affect the simulation and consider the possibility of using PLC network working on the high-speed electrical railway system in the real world.

Streszczenie:
GSM-Railways (GSM-R) is the current standard for railway voice and data communication. GSM-R provides railway specific voice services, such as Railway Emergency Call (REC). GSM-R provides also the European Train Control System (ETCS), which offers in-cab signaling and Automatic Train Protection (ATP). Despite these features and services, GSM-R has various major shortcomings. Therefore, alternative technologies are considered to replace GSM-R and become the next generation railway mobile communication network. 3GPP Long Term Evolution (LTE) is a likely candidate for GSM-R replacement. LTE is more efficient, flexible and offers much higher capacity, which allows the railway network to provide new communication-based applications for railways. Most of the research on LTE in railways has been focused on data-based railway applications (ETCS signaling and other). Nevertheless, voice communication is still a crucial service for railways. Regardless of its advantages, LTE can only become a railway communication technology if it provides voice communication fulfilling railway requirements. This paper presents how Voice over LTE (VoLTE) can be used to build railway communication services. Examples of Railway Emergency Call and One-to-One Call are provided. Service performance, in terms of call setup times and voice transmission quality, is analyzed in simulation scenarios modelling two railway scenarios in Denmark.

Streszczenie:
The article analyses the volume of passenger traffic from 1990 to 2019 for land, water and air transport. From the materials obtained and the experience of the networks of European and world high-speed railways, goals are set. High-speed lines designed exclusively for passenger traffic. This moment plays an important role in reducing the cost of construction, increasing the market and economic profitability. According to the data from the State Statistics Service of Ukraine, it is possible to calculate the passenger flow based on the known parameters for 2020–2032 in the direction of Kiev–Lviv. The design of high-speed lines should meet general requirements aimed at satisfying the basic characteristics of a high-speed railway system, which works in conjunction with the European High-Speed Railway network. The compatibility of the parameters of high-speed lines with the parameters of traditional lines is part of the operational requirements for the gradual introduction of a network of high-speed railways. Possible scenarios to achieve the required compatibility should cover all subsystems.

Streszczenie:
Robust, reliable, and interoperable wireless communications play a vital role in the success of railroad operations. This paper describes an effort towards developing a railroad-specific “cognitive radio” (Rail-CR) that can meet the needs of future wireless communication systems for railways by making positive train control (PTC) communication more interoperable, robust, reliable, and spectrally efficient, and less costly to deploy and maintain. Cognitive radios are a cutting edge research area that combines artificial intelligence (AI) with Software Defined Radios (SDRs) with the goal of improving upon existing radio performance. SDRs are radios in which capabilities are flexible due to realizing some functionality in software as opposed to a purely hardware platform. By utilizing situational awareness from the radio in the form of observable parameters, often known as ‘meters’, a cognitive engine (CE) utilizes software-based decision-making algorithms to determine if a change in the radio parameters, commonly referred to as ‘knobs’, is required based on sets of predefined goals. Additionally, learning algorithms dovetail with the decision making to enable the system to track and utilize past decisions and observations.
