Streszczenie:
The US Department of Homeland Security identified college sport venues as terrorist targets due to the potential for mass casualties and catastrophic social and economic impact. Therefore, it is critical for college sport safety and security personnel to implement effective risk management practices. However, deficiencies have been identified in the level of preparedness of college sport event security personnel related to risk management training and effective emergency response capabilities. To address the industry need, the National Center for Spectator Sports Safety and Security designed, developed, and evaluated a national sport event risk management training program for National Collegiate Athletic Association command groups. The purpose of this article was to provide an overview of the design, development, and evaluation process.

The hospitality industry has historically trained its own employees at the entry and supervisory level. Today, because of the growth of the hospitality industry, even with the proliferation of hospitality education programs, more non-hospitality trained personnel are entering the industry than ever before. The maitre d' apprenticeship program is designed to complement the in-house training programs of hotels and restaurants with a college curriculum leading to an associate degree and national certification in food service management. The maitre d' apprenticeship program is designed as a model for community and junior colleges to provide an alternative to fulltime college programs to meet the needs of front-of-the-house food service employees who wish to develop their basic skills and supervisory talents. The model of the maitre d' apprenticeship curriculum details the course content needed to meet the certification requirements of the International Food Service Executives Association (IFSEA).

Nationally, the urban and community forests are in a state of rapid decline. About 52% of street trees are dead or dying. The average tree life of the urban areas is about five times less than in rural areas. The growing national awareness of the importance and benefits of trees and their role in maintaining a healthy environment magnifies the need for urban forestry training programs. The Southern University Urban Forestry Program (funded by USDA Forest Service, Southern Region) is set up to address the critical need for high quality, user-oriented urban forestry training for minority students, and to bridge the gap between minority participation and national forestry resources, education and management programs. This unique program places major emphasis on experiential learning activities in addition to sound academic education. The four-year curriculum will be centered around forestry, horticulture, urban and community planning and landscape architecture.

Streszczenie:
Context.—Competency gaps in leadership and laboratory management skills continue to exist between what training programs deliver and what recent graduates and future employers expect. A number of recent surveys substantiate this. Interest in delivering content in these areas is challenged by time constraints, the presence of knowledgeable faculty role models, and the necessary importance placed on diagnostic skills development, which overshadows any priority trainees have toward developing these skills. Objective.—To describe the problem, the near-future horizon, the current solutions, and the recommendations for improving resident training in laboratory management. Data Sources.—The demands of new health care delivery models and the value being placed on these skills by the Pathology Milestones and Next Accreditation System initiative of the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education for training programs emphasizes their importance. This initiative includes 6 milestone competencies in laboratory management. Organizations like the American Society for Clinical Pathology, the American Pathology Foundation, the College of American Pathologists, and the Association of Pathology Chairs Program Directors Section recognize these competencies and are working to create new tools for training programs to deploy. Conclusions.—It is our recommendation that (1) every training program develop a formal educational strategy for management training, (2) greater opportunity and visibility be afforded for peer-reviewed publications on management topics in mainstream pathology literature, and (3) pathology milestones–oriented tools be developed to assist program directors and their trainees in developing this necessary knowledge and skills.

Law enforcement can be a physically and mentally demanding occupation. It is well known that health and fitness is highly related to job performance, career longevity and safety. There is insufficient research on the development of higher education-based coursework in criminal justice programs that emphasize the development of healthful behavior patterns and physical fitness. The purpose of this study was to determine if successful completion of a 14-week health education and fitness training course would increase participants’ physical fitness and capabilities to perform essential physical fitness tasks needed for a career in law enforcement. Fifty-one college students participated in a health promotion program that included multiple components of wellness such as physical fitness, exercise principles, healthy eating behaviors, goal setting and stress management. Results indicated that a college-based health promotion course can successfully prepare physically fit and police academy-ready criminal justice graduates that have an educational foundation in healthy lifestyle.

Streszczenie:
Purpose: The main objective of this study is to investigate the perceptions of pre-service teachers regarding their tutoring program at teacher college model in Mauritania. Approach/Methodology/Design: Explanatory Sequential design was adopted. Hence, a survey questionnaire and interviews were developed to gather data from 80 pre-service teachers, 20 in-service teachers, and 2 mentors. Findings: The findings of the study revealed that internship training has a significant impact on the development of pre-service teachers, but the teacher trainees did not get enough time for internship training sessions due to the workload of the theoretical courses. Mentors and management support were found insignificant to the development of teacher college model trainees. Practical Implications: The study provides a systematic evaluation of the current in-service teacher training programs. It reflects certain aspects of the status quo, and hence it will be useful for the concerned authorities in the field of teacher education. Originality/value: Teacher College Model has to adjust the levels of its tutoring where the study found that teacher trainees suffer the short-term practicum while they are complaining about the workload of coursework. Another way of the assessment regarding the tutoring program could be including observation. It is suggested that a qualitative study where researchers can spend more time at the teacher college model and with teaching staff observing the different aspects of the tutoring program.

In the Party's 20 National Congress reports, "innovation" appeared 55 times, covering politics, economy, culture, education and other aspects. The fifth part, "Implementing the strategy of rejuvenating the Country through science and Education and strengthening the talent support for modernization", mentions innovation for 21 times. It can be said that "innovation" has become the main melody and the strongest sound of today's times. College students' innovation and entrepreneurship training program is an important carrier to deepen the reform of innovation and entrepreneurship education in colleges and universities. In this paper, taking Zhejiang Yuexiu University of Foreign Languages as an example, the investigation and analysis found that there are some problems in the implementation of college students' innovation and entrepreneurship training plan, such as students' innovation and entrepreneurship awareness to be improved, project innovation to be enhanced, the professionalism of the tutor team to be improved, and the achievement evaluation system to be improved. In response to these problems, the author proposed corresponding suggestions and countermeasures. To constantly improve the "Big innovation" plan management system, improve the quality of the project.

A Programme for the professional development of Academic staff at Technikon SA. This research has been undertaken against the background of the contribution that the academic staff at Technikon SA can make in lowering the high drop-out rate of students, delivering high level manpower to the community and the effectiveness of this tertiary distance education institution. After an in-depth study of literature study it became evident that: It students dropping out in distance education is a complex matter and a great number of reasons exist why students do not successfully complete their studies: the responsibilities of lecturers have drastically in distance education; the professional role of distance education lecturers is undefined; professional development of Technikon SA academic staff is neglected; and lecturers have certain needs for professional development which must be identified and addressed. The problem addressed in this study has been to probe into the desirability and the nature of a programme for the professional development of Technikon SA lecturers. The objectives of this study are: It the literature exploration of the nature of and reasons for student drop-out and the professional role of distance education lecturers; the empirical identification and analysis of the developmental areas of Technikon SA lecturers; and to design a programme for the professional development of Technikon SA academic staff. The most important findings of this study are the following: Student drop-out rates can probably be reduced if the necessary student supporting structures are created and established within a distance education institution. Technikon SA as a tertiary distance education institution has developed rapidly over the past 14 years with the emphasis on scientific practice, co-operative education and training, technological practice and rendering of service to the community by delivering high level manpower. The professional role of Technikon SA lecturers comprises: teaching, research. community service and managerial tasks, For effective and efficient execution of these tasks, lecturers should have the necessary skills. There is a definite need for professional development amongst academic staff of distance education institutions which should be addressed by the institution. Empirical research. by means of a questionnaire. as to the importance and frequency of appearance of the tasks was launched amongst the full-time lecturers at Technikon SA and revealed that: lecturers regard teaching and managerial tasks as very important. while research and community service were regarded as not important: and more than 96% of programme for the staff in the form programmes. the group favours the design of a professional development of academic of shorter workshops and self study Findings of the empirical research together with the findings of the sources studied. result in the design of a programme for the professional development of academic staff. After taking various developmental conditions and possible restraining factors into consideration, the programme. based on the QDen systems approach, was developed in five phases. The most important conclusions drawn at the completion of this study are as follows: a definite need for the professional development of academic staff in distance education has been detected: job description of Technikon SA lecturers must be defined and outlined: Technikon SA must deliberately strive to create and establish a research cuIture: and a diplomatic approach towards professional development must be adopted in order to overcome resistance to change

The purpose of the chapter is to present the experience of the evaluation based on competences, through an institutional evaluation program that verifies the quality of the training as a process of quality assurance and as part of the Quality Management System in a Latin American university. It will describe the academic process called Assessment Center that designs, manages, and implements the program of undergraduate and postgraduate evaluation in face-to-face and virtual modality, and that has an objective to develop the project of Evaluation in Higher Education by Competences based on the Pedagogical Model of the College. Finally, this chapter aims to demonstrate from an experience in higher education the importance of quality as an integral part of the institutional culture of a Latin American university, as well as the collective and individual intentionality of the educational communities, in such a way that it is reflected in the processes and tasks that are carried out in the university institutions.

The novel coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic has impacted the higher education sector all over the world and has been most disruptive to residential academic institutions that offer mostly, if not wholly, in-person instruction. Of the 1.5 million college faculty members in the United States, about 70% had never taught a virtual course prior to COVID-19. During spring 2020, colleges had to pivot to remote instruction without much notice for faculty to prepare. Some referred to this as “emergency remote teaching” as it did not allow adequate time to thoughtfully plan out a course for a remote format. Over the summer and fall of 2020, many colleges invested in training programs to help faculty design and deliver their courses in a remote format. This article describes an online faculty development program that was created for faculty at a residential liberal arts university that, prior to COVID-19, offered the majority of courses on campus in-person. The objective of the program was to help faculty plan out and design their remote courses in the Blackboard Learning Management System using an instructional design framework known as backward design. This program ended up receiving the 2021 Blackboard Catalyst Award for Training and Professional Development.

This chapter was developed to review the strategies of leadership preparation programs from two different institutions, one a Historically Black College/University (HBCU), and the other a Predominately White University (PWI) to explore the experiences of relationship building among the State Department of Education, the state legislature, local education agencies, school principals, graduate candidates, university faculty, two schools of education, and the Southern Regional Education Board (SREB) for the purpose of drawing implications for strengthening the training of school leaders. The focus is on a State Department of Education requirement that all seventeen Principal Preparation Programs re-designed their policies and procedures to meet new state standards of best practices adopted from consultation with the SREB. The final project was a designated SREB award (commendation) winning re-designed principal preparation internship program at the HBCU. The four key themes as descriptors of relationships between the two participating institutions: collaboration (subthemes include role definitions and interdependence), communication (subthemes include mentors' dispositions and power imbalance), creativity (subthemes include systems barriers and candidate placement), and critical thinking (subthemes include faculty qualifications and financial burdens). One critical factor that prevails throughout the literature and practical application is that designing and implementing excellent principal preparation/educational administrator programs is an international priority.

This chapter examines some of the issues encountered by academics while developing online delivery of the Master of Information Management (MIM) program at RMIT University, Melbourne, Australia. RMIT is a multi-campus university of technology and design founded in the 1880s as a “working man's college” and now operating in a global environment. This global context, along with the challenges confronting Australian higher education and professional training, means that considering the issues arising from the design, development, and delivery of non-traditional delivery modes, such as the online environment, is essential in the quest to provide sustainable quality education. The experience of the educators involved in developing the MIM program may assist others in creating similar programs and provide insights into issues associated with implementing best practice for online instruction.

Growing involvement of the Internet and digital media are shaping the present context of distance education (DE) and reconstructing the ways education is being provided globally. Whereas the generations of DE have counted to 5 phases, online learning has received the third generation in its development (Heydenrych and Prinsloo, 2010), and it is only recently that the approach has been practiced in Ethiopia giving accreditations to five HLIs to run the system to teach MBA courses. For its implementation to be successful, the system of online learning requires its practitioners to have got intensive professional development. This study believed that the proposed HLIs used the conventional school instructors while implementing the online learning program and doubted that there would be problems (that might arise from the lack of appropriate training, long-lived biases, short of tech skills, etc.) in satisfying the stakeholders taking part in the program. This study was meant to explore the experiences of American College of Technology (ACT) and Harambee University (HU) how they implemented the online learning program for the courses they provided to their MBA students. Keywords: online learning; digital content; learning management system; modular object-oriented dynamic learning environment.JEL Classification: I23; O33; O36.Cite this chapter:Tessema, A. My involvement at the Niwot Ridge Long-Term Ecological Research (LTER) site began when I was an undergraduate summer research assistant, and it has extended through a postdoctoral fellowship, a tenured professorship, and now a leadership role in the program. I focus on alpine tundra plant diversity, plant–soil interactions, and how environmental changes may influence community dynamics over time and space. Cross-site synthesis work has been one of the most valuable experiences of my career, enabling me to ask more general questions and produce more influential work than I could have done with a focus at a single site. Such comparative research has allowed me to interact with a fabulous group of scientists that has strongly influenced my professional development. These scientists remain strong role models for me. My experiences in the LTER program have formed my model of education and training, emphasizing experimental and observational approaches, quantitative methods, and data management and sharing. I think it is the best way to approach the difficult and complex ecological questions facing our society today. My involvement in the LTER program started in college, when I decided to study for one semester at the University of Colorado. During that semester, I took a class from Marilyn Walker, who was part of the Niwot Ridge (NWT) LTER program. Marilyn’s class did not go to the tundra or even focus on alpine systems. However, when time came to figure out what to do over the summer, I asked her if I could be her research assistant. She gave me the chance to work at Niwot Ridge (Figure 29.1). I spent the summer before my senior year at 3,500-m elevation, recording point quadrat vegetation data in permanent plots. The snow was late to melt that year, so I spent much of June in the Institute of Alpine and Arctic Research’s loading dock, painting thick black stripes on 2.5-m long PVC poles to be used to measure snow depth. When snow melted enough to allow access on the entrance road, I went up to Niwot Ridge for the first time.

Streszczenie:
This paper discusses the integration of an innovative engineering technology curriculum with Web-based technology in robotics, mechatronics, and E-quality at Drexel University. The School of Technology and Professional Studies in the Goodwin College has offered a co-op-based Applied Engineering Technology (AET) major since 2002. The program comprises three concentrations in Electrical, Mechanical, and Industrial Engineering Technology and provides an integrated educational experience directed toward developing the ability to apply the knowledge gained in college to the solution of practical problems in engineering technology fields. The majority of courses are fully integrated with training and laboratory experience to provide students with a strong foundation of engineering practices and to stimulate students’ interests by using a problem solving approach in state-of-the-art laboratories. Key efforts in the development process include creation of the Network-based laboratories that can significantly contribute to the development of new courses integrated with the Internet-based technology in robotics, automation, and E-quality. Development of Web-based technology laboratories and capstone courses such as Robotics and Mechatronics, Engineering Quality Methods, Thermodynamics, and Manufacturing Information Management are described in this paper.

Streszczenie:
The Connecticut (CT) College of Technology with funding from the National Science Foundation (NSF) has established the Center for Life Support and Sustainable Living. The Center is the result of partnerships with the CT Community Colleges, four-year institutions, local hospitals and industry, and the collaboration with NASA through the CT Space Grant College Consortium. The primary goals of the Center are the following: (1) to provide teams of community colleges and four-year university students opportunities to apply science, engineering and technology knowledge as well as professional skills necessary to be successful in future employment to real-world problems that address life support and sustainable living issues; (2) to strengthen the 2+2+2 pathways between community colleges and four-year institutions; (3) provide professional development opportunities for community college faculty; (4) implement strategies to recruit and retain a diverse population of students interested in STEM disciplines; and (5) develop multi-media curriculum modules using contextual or problem-based-case-based learning (PBCL). The project has instituted interdisciplinary teams of community college and university students who are initiated into the program with intensive instruction and project planning and management, leadership, teamwork, and behavioral diversity using DISC behavioral analysis profiles during an intense three-week period during the winter intersession. In addition to the initial training, student participants must commit to working approximately 250 hours during their school year for which they are working on their respective team-based projects. As part of their hours, they must meet as a full team a minimum of twice each month. Participating students are currently mentored by two and four-year faculty and industry representatives. So far, the research has been conducted during the summer months and the academic year on life support and sustainable living projects for NASA, the U.S. Coast Guard, medical facilities, such as the CT’s Children’s Medical Center, and industry partners such as Hamilton Sundstrand and Kaman Aerospace. As a result of these research projects, the community college and four-year faculty are implementing real-world life support and sustainable living projects and collaboratively are writing multi-media Project-Based-Case Based Learning modules, which incorporate technology and science skill standards. The Problem-Based-Case-Based multi-media modules are being piloted at the CT College of Technology’s community colleges and universities.
