Streszczenie:
Abstract Based on the first-principles theory combining density-functional theory and non-equilibrium Green’s function, A zigzag-armchair-zigzag (Z-A-Z) graphene nanoribbon transistor model was constructed using the quantumATK tool, and Stone-Wales (SW) defects were introduced. The transmission spectrum, electrical conductivity, gate potential and current-voltage (I-V) characteristics of Z-A-Z graphene nanoribbons were analyzed. By constructing Z-A-Z graphene nanoribbons with SW defects, the effect of defects on their transport properties was explored. The research results can provide a reference for the research on the characteristics of Z-A-Z graphene nanoribbons.

AbstractLetχbe a smooth proper Deligne–Mumford stack over ℂ. One can define twisted orbifold Gromov–Witten invariants ofχby considering multiplicative invertible characteristic classes of various bundles on the moduli spaces of stable mapsχg,n,d, cupping them with evaluation and cotangent line classes, and then integrating against the virtual fundamental class. These are more general than the twisted invariants introduced by Tseng. We express the generating series of the twisted invariants in terms of the generating series of the untwisted ones. We derive the corollaries which are used in a paper with Givental about the quantumK-theory of a complex compact manifoldX.

Streszczenie:
As silicon-based transistors have approached their physical limits, it is urgent to explore alternative materials with a suitable bandgap and high mobility for next generation electronic logic devices. Two‐dimensional (2D) materials have attracted significant attention in the last few years due to their potential exotic transport physics and technological applications in various fields, such as a significant device downscaling for high intensity integration. Recently, a variety of 2D materials have been explored, including graphene [1] and transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs), e.g., MoS2 [2,3], WS2 [4], and PtSe2 [5-7]. Although most research has focused on TMDs, recently 2D layered metal monochalcogenides, e.g., GaSe, have attracted increasing interest as a result of their unique electronic properties, making this class of materials different from TMDs. GaSe crystal structure comprises vertically stacked Ga-Se-Se-Ga layers with relatively weak van der Waals interactions. There are two main GaSe polytypes which differ in the stacking sequence of the basis layer units. Side- and top-view schematics of β‐GaSe and ε‐GaSe are shown in Fig. 1a. In this study, the electronic structure of both GaSe layered material polytypes is investigated using density functional theory (DFT) as implemented in QuantumATK [8]. Brillouin-zone integrations were performed according to the Monkhorst-Pack scheme [9] with a density of approximately 10 k-points per angstrom. Geometry optimizations were performed with the convergence criterion of 0.02 eV/Å [10]. Van der Waals (vdW) interactions improve the structural and electronic properties description obtained by DFT calculations and is included in our calculations through D3 version of Grimme’s dispersion corrections [11]. To provide an improved determination of the bandgap energies, the GW (G: Green's function and W: screened Coulomb interaction) method in conjunction with a many body perturbation theory (MBPT) correction could be used. However, GW technique is computationally very expensive and could be implemented for systems with very limited number of atoms [12,13]. Hence, for this study, methods such as Heyd-Scuseria-Ernzerhof (HSE) hybrid functional [14,15] and GGA-1/2 [16] methods were included in our model to achieve more accurate bandgap compared to the experimental values. The β‐GaSe exhibits a DFT-obtained direct bandgap of ~1 eV while the corrected value is 2 eV. ε‐GaSe, however, shows slight indirect bandgap of 0.8 eV (DFT) and 1.7 eV (corrected), with just 25 meV difference between the indirect gap and indirect gap. A double-gate Schottky barrier field-effect transistor (FET) consisting of Ti source and drain contacts and ultrathin GaSe channel is also investigated. Schematic of the FET is shown in Fig. 1b. The device performance analysis such as current-voltage characteristics, subthreshold slope, and on/off ratio are carried out by means of non-equilibrium Green’s function together with DFT Hamiltonian [17]. The output characteristic of the proposed device exhibits an ON/OFF current ratio of more than 7 orders of magnitude. The presence of point defects in ultrathin 2D films is largely inevitable [18], even under optimized synthesis conditions, which can be either engineered and considered as a useful feature, or undesirable. In either case, understanding the impacts of point defects on the electronic structure of 2D materials are required to allow application-based optimization. In this talk, to provide insight into the defect-induced modifications to the GaSe electronic properties, in particular the properties of the states associated with the defects, we will compare the band-structure of the pristine GaSe with the band-structure of the GaSe with Ge and Se vacancies, for both GaSe polytypes. We have also fabricated back-gated devices by mechanically exfoliating ultrathin GaSe flakes from bulk crystal onto oxide-on-Si substrate. Fig. 1c shows an SEM image of the device. Our experimental results demonstrate the basic transport characteristics of thin-film transistor, which may offer more opportunities for potential applications such as photodetectors, gas sensors, and optoelectronic devices, in addition to nanoelectronics FETs, due to GaSe large bandgap. Catalytic and physicochemical properties of microbial phytase sources may differ, affecting phosphorus (P) release and subsequently the productive and reproductive performance of layers. The current study aimed to evaluate the impact of bacterial and fungal phytase sources on layer productivity, egg production, biochemical blood indices, and reproductive morphology. For this purpose, 360 Bovans brown hens at 42 weeks of age were randomly allocated into 4 experimental groups, each with 15 replicates of 6 hens. The first group (control) was fed a basal diet with 4.6 g/kg available P. In contrast, the second, third, and fourth groups were fed diets treated with 3.2 g/kg available P, supplemented with either 5000 FTU/kg of bacterial E. coli (QuantumTM Blue 5G), fungal Aspergillus niger (VemoZyme® F 5000 Naturally Thermostable Phytase (NTP)), or fungal Trichodermareesei (Yemzim® FZ100). Dietary supplementation of bacterial and fungal phytases did not affect the productive performance or egg quality criteria, except for increased shell weight and thickness (p < 0.05). Serum hepatic function biomarkers and lipid profiles were not altered in treated hens, while calcium and P levels were increased (p < 0.05) related to the controls. Ovary index and length, and relative weight of oviduct and its segments were not influenced. The contents of cholesterol and malondialdehyde in the yolks from treated birds were lower compared to control hens, while calcium and P content increased (p < 0.05). Conclusively, bacterial and fungal phytase sources can compensate for the reduction of available P in layers’ diets and enhance shell and yolk quality without affecting productive performance, and no differences among them were noticed.

<p class="VARKeywords">The new tools for 3D survey and modelling (as portable scanners and software packages), often in combination with diagnostics, are nowadays able to provide indispensable elements for the study of archaeological artefacts; their applications to museum’s heritage can be also useful to integrate the traditional graphic documentation and contribute to enhancement and dissemination. This paper shows the benefit of using the aforementioned tools to study the peculiar clay mask No. 11114-E, discovered in 1973 in the Greek necropolis of Lipára, inside tomb No. 1558. The specimen, now exhibited in the Classical Section of the Aeolian Museum, is considered unique both in the Aeolian Islands and in the ancient Greek world, as it is the only one merging two half faces attributable to different characters. This feature, unknown at the time of discovery, has been highlighted in 2018, thanks to a restoration intervention by which a hard concretion layer covering a large portion of the mask surface was removed, bringing to light a smiling young half-face next to an old one with Silenic features. In 2019, the mask was surveyed in situ through a portable and performing laser-scanner arm (the QuantumTM FaroArm by FARO) to produce a high-resolution 3D model useful to enhance the reading of the two halves (not evident enough, due to its state of preservation). The data processing was performed using the Geomagic Wrap software, able to align and merge multiple scans into a single model and to export results in multiple formats, easily shareable and viewable in free software or via the web. Finally, thanks to this method, the successful generation of a digital replica was performed; the resulting replica is useful for dissemination and as a support for the hypothetical reconstruction of the two prototypes taken as models by the craftsman who created the mask.</p><p><strong>Highlights:</strong></p><ul><li><p>A 'mobile laboratory’ consisting of portable equipment has been set up to perform 3D metric surveys on a selection of artefacts preserved at the Museum of Lipari.</p></li><li><p>By means of an ultra-precision laser-scanner arm, a 3D survey on a miniaturistic double-faced mask, belonging to the classical theatrical terracotta, has been performed.</p></li><li><p>A geometrically accurate and realistic 3D final model has been created. Streszczenie:
Abstract Background: Previous studies quantitating VEGF in plasma cells from multiple myeloma (MM), monoclonal gammopathy of undetermined significance (MGUS), and smoldering myeloma (SMM) have found no significant difference in expression between the groups. These studies have been done using immunohistochemistry, quantitative RT-PCR, and Western Blots using material from isolated CD138+ plasma cells. These studies may have been limited by specificity of reagents, low numbers of plasma cells, or heterogeneity within the plasma cell population. Asosingh et al have shown that 5T2MM murine myeloma cells show greater VEGF expression in the CD45- compared to the CD45+ plasma cell compartment (Asosingh K, Blood2004;103:3131–7). Quantitative flow cytometric methods allow for the quantitation of antigen expression with high sensitivity and allow discrimination among cell subsets. Flow studies have suggested that myeloma patients have both CD45+ and CD45 - plasma cell subsets and that each compartment may contain phenotypic and functionally different types of clonal plasma cells. This two part study evaluated bone marrow plasma cells for intracellular and surface levels of VEGF in MM, MGUS, SMM, amyloid, and normal controls. Methods: Cytoplasmic VEGF expression (cVEGF) was measured on lysed and permeabilized (FACSTM Permeabilizing Solution, BD Biosciences, San Jose, CA) whole bone marrow samples using anti-VEGF PE (R and D Systems, Minneapolis, MN). With each run, QuantumTM Simply Cellular Beads (Bangs Laboratories, Fishers, IN) were stained with the same VEGF antibody to create a standard curve for calculation of MESF/ABC (antibody binding capacity) values. A median VEGF MESF value was calculated for the plasma cells, lymphocytes, and granulocytes from each patient sample. Surface expression of VEGF (sVEGF) was determined using CD138 FITC/ VEGF PE/ CD45 Percp/ CD38 APC staining on ACK lysed whole bone marrow cells. sVEGF expression was determined on the plasma cell population as a whole and on the individual CD45 fractions. Median expression and proportion of cases with plasma cells expressing >20% sVEGF were calculated. Cytoplasmic kappa and lambda staining was also done to determine clonality. Results: cVEGF MESF differences within the plasma cell populations were greater than in the other cell types. The MESF was higher in MM (n=14 patients, median MESF 247,866) compared to MGUS/SMM (n=14, median MESF 89,794) and amyloid (n=5, median MESF 134,429)(p=0.038). The lymphocytes and granulocytes in each group had similar MESF values, but the median MESF was lower than in the plasma cells (median 41,485 for lymphocytes, and 24,227 for granulocytes). sVEGF was expressed by less than 20% of plasma cells in all groups studied. Similar results were also seen in the CD45- plasma cell fraction. In the CD45+ plasma cell fraction, all groups showed varying levels of positive expression: MM (n=15 patients; median, 52% cells positive), normal controls (n=4; 51%), MGUS/SMM (n=11; 34%). Conclusions: cVEGF expression was significantly higher in MM compared to SMM/MGUS in this study. On the other hand, sVEGF expression was confined to the CD45+ plasma cell compartment in all groups studied, with a trend to higher % positive cells in the MM group compared to MGUS. We are working on studying levels of secreted VEGF in various human plasma cell subsets, both alone and in conjunction with stromal cell contact.

Lehenengo eta behin, Frantziako arau- esperimentazioaren abantailak azaltzen ditu, Espainian, toki-deszentralizazioaren bigarren prozesua dela-eta, teknika hori abian jartzeko helburuz. Esperimentazioa teknika juridiko bat da, eta Frantziako Estatuak a priori ebaluatu ditzake, hori baliatuta, Estatuko lege edo erregelamendu batean aurreikusitako baldintzak betetzeko tokiko erregelamendu-ahalak egin beharreko egokitzapenaren emaitzak. Abantaila ugari ditu. Izan ere, hari esker, ebaluazioaren emaitzak positiboak izanez gero, lurralde-kolektibitateen eskumenak mugatu daitezke, demokrazia hurbilaren eraginkortasuna bermatzeko. Bigarrenik, Frantziako arau-esperimentazioa Espainian abian jartzeak ekar ditzakeen arazoak eta, batez ere, abantailak azaltzen ditu. Zentzu horretan, ulertu da ez litzatekeela arauen indargabetze partziala (horretan datza esperimentazioa) egiteko arrazoirik egongo, Estatuaren oinarrizkoa denaren gaineko determinazioari dagokienez. Hori egitekotan, Estatuari, eskumen partekatuen banaketaren ondorioz kentzen zaizkion atribuzioez gain, atribuzio gehiago kenduko litzaizkioke-eta. Tresna erabilgarria izango litzateke, ordea, demokrazia hurbilaren eraginkortasuna baloratzeko, bai eta lege autonomiko sektorialetan toki-autonomiaren quantuma, erabilpen horren arabera, mugatzeko ere. This work had a twofold objective. Firstly, the advantages about normative experimentation in France with the aim of putting into operation this technique within the second process of local descentralization in Spain. Experimentation has been a legal technique that enabled the French State to test ¿a priori¿ the results of local regulatory power to the conditions set forth by an Act or a national regulation. It has unquestionable advantages because after a positive assessment the territorial entities¿ powers are defi ned in order to guarantee the effi ciency of local democracy. Secondly, the problems and specially advantanges the French normative experimentation system might bring to Spain are explained. In this respect, the partial abolition of provisions, which is what experimentation is all about, would be purposeless as far as the defi nition of basic in State terms is because it would be a new sutraction of State powers added to the sharing of powers. Nevertheless, it would be an useful tool for assessing the efficiency of local democracy and defi ning the local autonomy quantum of sectorial autonomous acts, as in conformity with that tool.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to design novel tunnel field effect transistor (TFET) using graphene nanoribbons (GNRs). Design/methodology/approach To design the proposed TFET, the bilayer GNRs (BLGNRs) have been used as the channel material. The BLGNR-TFET is designed in QuantumATK, depending on 2-D Poisson’s equation and non-equilibrium Green’s function (NEGF) formalism. Findings The performance of the proposed BLGNR-TFET is investigated in terms of current and voltage (I-V) characteristics and transconductance. Moreover, the proposed device performance is compared with the monolayer GNR-TFET (MLGNR-TFET). From the simulation results, it is investigated that the BLGNR-TFET shows high current and gain over the MLGNR-TFET. Originality/value This paper presents a new technique to design GNR-based TFET for future low power very large-scale integration (VLSI) devices.

Objectives: The emergent need for ventilators amidst the COVID-19 pandemic has catalyzed the production of innovative ventilator designs in hopes to optimize supply, manufacturing, ease of use, and cost in disaster situations. We created a novel and low-cost ventilator called QuantumAir, which uses “choked flow” to perform volume assist-control ventilation. Material and Methods: To evaluate the efficacy and safety of QuantumAir, we tested the ventilator across eight test cases on a lung simulator, with each test case trial lasting for at least 24 breath cycles. Delivered tidal volumes, peak inspiratory pressures, and plateau pressures were measured, and linear regression models were used to assess for non-inferiority of the QuantumAir ventilator as compared to that of a Food and Drug Administration (FDA)-cleared ventilator. Results: For each of the test cases, the standard deviation for the tidal volumes delivered during the 24 measured breaths on the QuantumAir ranged from 0.11 to 0.80 mL. The QuantumAir was found to be non-inferior to the FDA-cleared ventilator for both delivered tidal volumes and plateau pressures across all test cases and non-inferior for peak inspiratory pressures in six of the eight test cases. Conclusion: Although future in vivo studies are still needed, our data shows promise to offer a more affordable solution to mechanical ventilation in resource-limited situations, as was experienced during the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Streszczenie:
Quantum computing (QC) is considered as a rising star of computing technologies with very promising possibilities towards novel solutions of even more complex computing tasks than those which are tackled using today’s supercomputers. However, direct use in everyday applications is lacking both: large scale quantum computers and quantum algorithms, i.e. software. We are carrying out the first project on a road towards QC enabled Computed Tomography (CT). In our paper we present this project after its first out of five years duration and share the first steps we made with the community. It is worth to mention that the hardware for QC is still in a phase of development, which implies that most of the software research is in a phase of becoming ready for productional use cases.
