Streszczenie:
From an organisational point of view, professional support is an important aspect of clinical governance and a tool for maximising service delivery quality. As a key factor in staff retention and recruitment, access to professional support is also regarded as an important tool for facilitating workforce growth in a competitive health workforce market. While some work units provide appropriate professional support such as in-service, professional supervision is a key challenge for a large organisation employing many health professionals to ensure equitable and relevant access to finite professional support resources. The goal of this paper is to describe the Professional Support Program designed and implemented by Queensland Health. This program seeks to support professionals who may not previously have had optimal engagement in professional support and to enhance the quality of professional support activities available. Evaluation indicates that the Professional Support Program has been successful in facilitating participation in, and quality of professional support activities. What is known of the topic? There are numerous professional support strategies for health professionals. In many cases, these are understood but delivered in an ad hoc and disconnected way. What does this paper add? The development and implementation of a comprehensive Professional Support Framework is outlined. What are the implications for practitioners? The Professional Support Framework described here has provided effective and equitable professional support to a diverse group of professionals.

Professionals have an ethical obligation to bear witness to climate change. They should report, warn, criticize, and lobby to bring attention to the existential threat that climate change poses. But they also have an obligation to respect the knowledge that is the basis of their authority to witness. Witnessing carries risks to this professional authority. Witnessing professionals should avoid letting bias distort their advocacy, simplifying their statements excessively, overplaying the consensus in the field, neglecting their own conflicts of interest, and claiming authority beyond their areas of expertise. To witness ethically, the professional should advocate responsibly.

In an educational milieu student learning outcomes are directly related to teacher professional identity (TPI) i.e. improvement in the TPI will bear a direct positive effect on the learners’ academic achievements. Current study focuses on the development of TPI of English as a Foreign Language Teacher at English Language Institute (ELI) of a Saudi Arabian university through an in-service Cambridge English Teachers (CET) Professional Development (PD) program (CET-PD). Five determinants of TPI - Knowledge of Teaching Context (KCT), Collegial Collaboration (CC), Teaching Practices (TPs), Teacher Self-Efficacy (TSE), and Teacher Agency (TA) were studied before and after the PD program. Retrospective pretest-posttest research design was employed for addressing the research question: whereas responses on the five determinants were elicited from 120 participants through a self-administered questionnaire before and after the CET-PD program. Due to non-normality of data, a non-parametric statistic test-Wilcoxon signed Rank test was employed to analyze the collected data using SPSS. Results of the study revealed that three determinants of TPI - KCT, TSE, and TPs exhibited larger differences; whereas, for CC the differences were moderate and for TA the differences were minimal. By and large, due to in-service CET- PD program TPI exhibited improvement. The results of the study will be beneficial for teacher trainers to focus more on the teachers’ awareness of the learners’ and institutional contextual knowledge in a culture embedded in conservative norms. This study is a part of the quantitative phase of an ongoing Ph.D. project which employs mixed method convergent design.

Research in the world, as well as in our region, consistently indicates that teachers at all levels of educational work are exposed to various stressors that are related to the characteristics of their work. One of the outcomes of long-term chronic stress at work that has not been successfully resolved is the development of burnout syndrome. The aim of this research was to examine burnout in educators and teachers at all levels of education in Sarajevo, taking into account burnout indicators - emotional exhaustion, depersonalization, sense of personal accomplishment, according to the theoretical and empirical assumptions of the author Christine Maslach. The instrument for testing burnout - Maslach Burnout Inventory (Maslach & Jackson 1986) was applied on a convenient sample of 517 professionals directly involved in the educational process in 13 institutions in Sarajevo Canton at different levels of education – from kindergarten to college. The results indicate high emotional exhaustion in all participants, regardless of age, gender, type of institution and job position. The experience of the phenomenon of depersonalization in the examined sample is not emphasized on average, which means that the teaching staff is still not alienated from their students to the extent that would indicate the development of burnout syndrome. Sense of personal accomplishment is perceived by participants on average as low, even when they achieve the highest academic titles. According to the results of this research, it seems that support in overcoming emotional exhaustion and depersonalization is especially important to provide to older teachers and to male teachers. In addition, it is desirable to provide support to older male and female teachers, who work with older and adult students, in gaining a sense of personal accomplishment. Furthermore, the results suggest that teachers, secondary school teachers and senior university assistants should first be covered by prevention activities and programs, as they are at greatest risk of burnout.

Civil society in democratic countries expects its armed forces to be professional. Therefore, the armed forces in those countries need to have a clear idea of what pro- fession of arms is. They should especially have a clear idea of what a professional officer is, since the officer corps is responsible for leading the armed forces. The subjects of profession of arms and professional officer were first scientifically discussed after the Second World War by authors such as Samuel Huntington, Morris Janowitz, Bengt Abrahamson and others. Their theories reflected the circumstances of the Cold War, which, however, significantly changed with the fall of the Berlin Wall in the 1990’s. Most of the authors today have thus identified the need for revising and updating the traditional concepts of the profession of arms and military professional. The article attempts an answer to what the terms profession of arms and professional officer mean today, and how the SAF should approach the development of military profession and professional officers.

Abstract The role of the professional accountant has evolved with the development of accounting science. During this process, the professional accountant should not limit his training to only university courses, as his performance is linked to the continuous development of his skills and knowledge in the field. The current economic context outlines the necessity for a new type of professional accountant, one who is constantly up to date with legislative changes, always ready to implement aid schemes offered by the state, always able to support the business environment affected by the crisis. Considering all these aspects, the objectives of this article are directed towards answering the following questions: Can professional development and coordination by professional bodies prepare the accounting profession for the future? What are the conditions for professional evolution and professional revolution, considering extreme changes? Does personal responsibility for lifelong learning and career development represent necessary conditions for professional evolution? How can the professional evolution of the accountant be supported by professional associations? The methodology of the research is based on approaching the problem both theoretically and practically by studying the literature and analysing the legislation and the application of international standards in the field. A possible result of this article would be the estimation of the extent to which a coordinated professional development should be based on professional training, which triggers the challenges that professional accountants must face, and how professional bodies could intervene in the processes by updating the regulations, determining, thus, successful coordination within uncertain future scenarios.

This review is devoted to the analysis of the existing shortcomings in the sectoral qualifications system and the development of suggestions for improving the mechanisms for regulating the professional activities of healthcare professionals in the Republic of Kazakhstan. The main problems in the development of human resources for health care that require a systemic solution include the lack of compliance of training programs and the system of continuous professional development of workers in the industry, a system for assessing professional readiness and admission of health professionals for practical activities to the needs of practical health care, the lack of a clear delineation of the competencies of health professionals by levels qualifications. The above problems are based on the imperfection of the Sectoral Qualifications System due to the absence of the Sectoral Qualifications Framework (covering all professions and professional activities in the health sector) and professional standards (regulating in detail for each qualification level all those labor functions and professional tasks that are necessary for those working in the industry. specialists, as well as the skills, knowledge, and even personal competencies required for this). The implementation of professional standards in the development of educational programs at all levels of education, in the activities of organizations that assess the professional readinesss of healthcare professionals, in the personnel policy of the health system, regions and medical organizations, will ensure that the competencies of graduates of educational programs and specialists working in the health sector correspond to the real needs of practical healthcare. All this will make it possible to achieve greater labor productivity of healthcare professionals, improve the quality of medical and other services provided, reduce the costs of recruiting and enhance the competitiveness of both specialists working in healthcare organizations.

Health professionals move for various reasons and for various periods of time, which entails consequences at various levels, ranging from governmental decisions regarding the policy of health mobility to shifts in mobile medical professionals’ attitudes towards sojourning. The present paper looks into the self-perceptions of working and living abroad of mobile medical professionals. An online questionnaire was conducted in order to gain an insight into how mobile medical professionals experience living and working in a foreign environment and which factors make it easier or more difficult. The results suggest a close link exists between the perceived willingness to continue the sojourn and the degree of identification with the new culture, satisfaction with professional functioning and satisfaction with social networks. Even though the majority of the respondents feel well adjusted in their new working environment, they experience their social networks as inadequate, which sometimes provides mobile medical professionals with an impetus to abort their careers abroad.

Continuing to learn is universally accepted and expected by professionals and other stakeholders across all professions. However, despite changes in response to research findings about how professionals learn, many professional development practices still focus on delivering content rather than enhancing learning. In exploring reasons for the continuation of didactic practices in professional development, this article critiques the usual conceptualization of professional development through a review of recent literature across professions. An alternative conceptualization is proposed, based on philosophical assumptions congruent with evidence about professional learning from seminal educational research of the past two decades. An argument is presented for a shift in discourse and focus from delivering and evaluating professional development programs to understanding and supporting authentic professional learning.

AbstractIt has long been known that Italy is characterized by the highest levels of professional regulation in Europe, but little attention has been given to the link between professional regulation and educational stratification. This article investigates the association between social origins and education by focusing on fields of study within tertiary education and by disaggregating the upper class of social origin into different micro-classes of professionals. Thus, since these professions are regulated in the first place by educational fields of study, it assesses how processes of social closure enhance occupational intergenerational immobility in the professional employment in Italy. Recently, deregulation of liberal professions in Italy has been central in many public and political debates. It contributes to these debates by examining the micro-level dynamics in the professionals’ social reproduction and related practises of social exclusion, which may have strong implications for policy interventions. By using ISTAT’s “Sbocchi Professionali dei Laureati” survey (2011), and employing multinomial logistic regressions, it shows how social selection into highly regulated fields of study is guided by parents’ professional domain. The analyses indicate that both sons and daughters of licensed professionals are more inclined to graduate in a field of study that is in line with the father’s profession and that this propensity is stronger among children of regulated self-employed professionals.

This study aimed to analyze the influence of professional values on attitudes towards professional ethics, as well as the influence of sociodemographic variables on attitudes and professional values in future physical therapy professionals. A total of 231 physical therapy students (53% women; mean age 22.30 (SD = 5.13 years; age range 18–49)) participated. Attitudes towards professional ethics (Attitudes Questionnaire towards Professional Ethics in Physical Therapy) and professional values (Axiological Estimation of Professional Values Questionnaire) were analyzed. Linear regressions were conducted to examine: (i) the statistical prediction of attitudes as a dependent variable, with professional values as independent variables; (ii) whether sociodemographic variables had a relationship with attitudes or professional values. Professional values explained 6.5% of the variance of attitudes towards professional ethics (F(1,230) = 16.08, p < 0.001)). In regard to sociodemographic characteristics, age explained 3% of the variance of attitudes (F(1,230) = 7.11, p < 0.01) and presence of relatives in healthcare explained 1.9% of the variance in professional values (F(1,230) = 4.35, p < 0.05)). These results suggest that an increased awareness of professional values is essential to maximizing the attitudes towards professional ethics in future physical therapy professionals in order to improve their future daily clinical practices.

This right originates in the professional relationship and only concerns the confidential content of information disclosed at that time. Lastly, the professional's duty to discretion may be suspended by a specific statutory provision without there being an express need to derogate therefrom in the Charter of Rights.

This article examines the working lives of creative-class professionals in the Global South using two case studies: university educators and museum professionals employed in Qatar. A small country on the Arabian Peninsula, Qatar is an ideal site for the study of professionals in a developing yet authoritarian nation. We argue that the cultural attributes of the professorial and curatorial communities, including creativity, autonomy, and intellectual freedom, are in conflict with the authoritarian political context, giving rise to professional dissonance. Professional dissonance occurs when the norms, values, and ideas embraced by a particular occupational group conflict with the norms, values, and ideas in the settings in which they work. To cope, university educators and museum professionals turn to five strategies—resistance, subversion, submission, conversion, and exit—although variations in the content and institutional structures of their work lead each group to deploy them in somewhat different ways. These strategies may be replicated in other contexts of high professional dissonance, caused by authoritarianism or otherwise.

ABSTRACT Since 2016, the Professional Standards Authority in the United Kingdom (UK) has been building an evidence base to understand the relationship between professional regulation and professional identity of health care professionals. Professional identity can greatly impact the practice of health professionals. To better understand the relationship between professional regulation and professional identity, we conducted a literature review, which gathered definitions of professional identity and analysis of identity among health care professionals. We then commissioned the administration of 16 in-depth interviews with UK health care practitioners to learn their perceptions regarding professional identity and regulation. This paper describes and analyzes the Authority's findings from a policy perspective, suggesting that the professional identity of a health care practitioner is influenced mostly by factors that are local — such as the rapport a practitioner has with a patient, education, mentors, uniforms and external perceptions. These non-regulatory factors take precedence over regulation's influence on the development and maintenance of professional identity. Regulation does appear to have an effect on professional identity when there is a crisis or unusual circumstance (for example removing a professional from practice), but on a daily basis its effects are small, especially compared to other factors.

Professional identity of the legal and pedagogical professionals in prison settings has been greatly affected by transformations that have occurred over time in the culture of the penal and penitentiary system. The transition towards a re-educating culture of the prison system after the Second World War has highlighted a new identity, a new role. This is not always accompanied by new awareness and educational practices and behaviours. This paper intends to reconstruct the professional identity of the legal and pedagogical professionals and their role while working through a short normative excursus that over time accompanied its definition. The ability of professionals to construct the meaning of their educational job and role in prison is affected by the values, ethics and knowledge of each single professional. It is also affected by the social and working system they belong to. The more each professional is able to autonomously construct the sense of his/her own work and professional role, the clearer and more conscious acted his/her identity is. Explicit rules do not necessarily impact on that. La professionalità rieducativa in carcere. Identità e valenze educative incorporate nelle policy, prassi e comportamenti organizzativi. Personal and professional risks have been considered separately in research. However, these two concepts have not so far been investigated in research together. In this study, we first tested the importance of these two risks for Iranian accounting professionals through trade-off scenarios. The analysis of data gathered from an online survey of 487 Iranian accounting professionals shows that accounting professionals in Iran prefer to avoid personal risk rather than professional risk when facing a choice between personal and professional risk. Iranian accountants and auditors are personal risk averters and professional risk lovers, even though they think they are not risk-averse in their personal lives and not risk takers in their professional lives. Therefore, there is a gap between Iranian accounting professionals’ thoughts about their personal and professional risk aversion and their personal and professional risk aversion in practice. Furthermore, we found significant relationships between accounting professionals’ gender, religiosity, welfare, and personal risk aversion. In addition, there are significant relationships between accounting professionals’ gender and personal and professional risk aversion.

The article deals with some aspects of formation of professional culture in various professional environments and its reproduction in the process due to professional family continuity. The relevance of the research topic is attributed to the transformation of the requirements of society to the level of competence of professionals, the quality of the results of their work in the process of communicative interaction “producer — consumer”. The novelty of the research approaches is conditioned by the lack of theoretical understanding of professional culture in the coordinate system of culture as a social construct, as well as the role of ethical norms and rules related to labor activity, developed by professionals from below (engineers, teachers, doctors, civil servants, diplomats, etc.), based on objective and subjective actions of the regulator from above.

This research explores the connection between social media and independent continuing professional development, focusing on new professionals within the UK and Ireland who graduated between 2010 and 2015, based on Ruddock’s definition (see Appendix 1). Two online surveys were conducted to ascertain why continuing professional development networks have been created and why new professionals use them. The first survey was completed by 100 new professionals; the second was completed by four continuing professional development network founders. This paper explores the relationship between the uptake of continuing professional development and social media usage by new professionals and highlights the reasons social media are used by new professionals for continuing professional development which include cost, variety of continuing professional development options, and removal of boundaries, e.g. geographical, hierarchical. The survey also found that network founders used social media to promote continuing professional development and engage with users.

The text is a review of La lingua inglese per la comunicazione scientifica e professionale by Annalisa Zanola, published in 2023 by Carocci. The book introduces ESPP (English for Scientific and Professional Purposes) as a new research area in English language and linguistics, which aims at exploring the efficiency and effectiveness of native and non-native speakers of English in professional contexts. It is divided into four chapters, each exploring one dimension of ESPP: from an overview of English for scientific popularization and professional communication (chapter 1) to an exposition of the main characteristics of written and oral ESPP (chapters 2 and 3), to an analysis of its possible applications in medicine, economics, law, and engineering (chapter 4). In this volume, professionals, together with their language instructors, will find useful materials to understand, and to master, the main characteristics of English for their own scientific and professional purposes, while scholars in applied linguistics will find interesting insights into theories and practices regarding English for scientific and professional communication.

Streszczenie:
Purpose – The article's main purpose is to investigate the relationship between organizational and professional commitment and accountants' construction of corporate social responsibility (CSR) competencies. Design/methodology/approach – A survey of accounting professionals in Canada (chief financial officers/finance directors) was conducted to ask them about their organization's CSR position, their openness to CSR, involvement in related activities, the codified knowledge they use and their organizational and professional commitment. Findings – The results show the dominance of normative commitment to the profession or organization and its relationship with professional CSR training. Professional CSR training and organizational and other CSR training activities are also related to the professional's openness to CSR. Research limitations/implications – The study's main limitation is the small number of participants. Future research is needed to investigate the conditions under which normative commitment is developed. Practical implications – The results make a practical contribution by suggesting that organizations seeking to involve accounting professionals in CSR activities might want to consider encouraging them to get CSR training using professional resources because of its link to both forms of normative commitment. Further, the findings indicate that the profession could integrate CSR issues more extensively in its accreditation process to enhance its role as a resource provider in the construction of accountants' CSR competencies. Originality/value – To the authors' knowledge, the study is the first one to investigate the relationship between organizational and professional commitment and accountants' construction of CSR competencies.
