Pełny tekst źródłaThe thesis focuses on an original professional society of the French architectural scene of the interwar period, the Society of Modern Architects. Born in 1922 as the Group of Modern Architects (GAM), the SAM was founded by innovative architects of the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries such as Hector Guimard, Henri Sauvage, Frantz Jourdain. Throughout its existence, it brought together a wide variety of personnalities such as Auguste Bluysen, Adolphe Dervaux, Albert Laprade and Robert Mallet-Stevens. It will have more than 250 members throughout its existence. The thesis postulates the idea of both professional and intellectual coherence within this gathering of architects. The thesis studies the formation of the founding networks of the GAM at the end of the 19th century, the reasons for their convergence in the 1910s and the preparation of the 1925 International Exhibition of Modern Decorative and Industrial Arts, which served as the setting for the birth of the Group. It is interested in the positioning and professional recognition strategies of SAM architects by studying in particular its actions at the end of the International Exhibition as well as the type of reticular training and the effectiveness of the network set up by the Society. It is interested in the intellectual posture of the SAM by trying to identify a common thought among its members and confronts it with that of the rest of the architectural scene of the interwar period. It notably highlights the emergence of the figure of the modern architect and studies the way in which this figure is envisaged by the Society
