The profession which was considered the most humble one has transformed into a service and falls under the purview of Consumer Protection act. Informed consent is a concept which gives the person right to pick and choose from the different types of treatment modalities, right to voluntarily suffer any harm which may occur during treatment thereby also decreasing the burden of responsibility which falls upon the doctor's shoulders to pick the best treatment modality for his patient and to bear the brunt of patient and his relatives if something goes wrong. Thus informed consent is not just a legal formality but a mandate which guarantees not only the best treatment for the patient as per his choice but also safeguards a doctor against unnecessary litigations. The role of the Land Deed Making Officer is very important in making the land sale and purchase deed. In accordance with Government Regulation Number 37 of 1998 which has been changed to Government Regulation Number 24 of 2016 concerning Regulations for Land Deed Making Officials, PPAT is a public official who is authorized to make authentic deeds regarding certain legal actions regarding land rights or property rights. on the apartment unit. The problems raised in this research are the responsibility of the Land Deed Making Officer (PPAT) for the making of the Proforma Sale and Purchase Deed (formality) and the legal consequences arising from the Proforma Purchase (formality). The method used is normative research, the data sources used are primary legal materials, secondary legal materials, and tertiary legal materials. Data collection techniques by means of literature study. The data analysis technique used qualitative methods. After the discussion, it was found that the Proforma Sale and Purchase (formality) did not meet the requirements for a valid agreement because it contained false causes. The Land Deed Making Official who makes the Proforma Sale and Purchase Deed (Formality) must be responsible for his actions and may be subject to written sanctions up to his dismissal from his position. And there are legal consequences of false data submitted to the Land Deed Making Official, which can be canceled or null and void by law. There is also the possibility of being sued for material damages by the aggrieved party in this case the Plaintiff on the basis of an unlawful act as regulated in Article 1356 of the Civil Code. Guidance and supervision of the profession of Land Deed Making Officials must also be strengthened so that cases of making Proforma Sale and Purchase Deeds do not recur.

The case study research strategy describes variations in the educational and professional trajectories of part-time students in comparison with their attitude to distance learning, the goal of higher education, and their professional future of the individual. This research strategy makes it possible to present distance learning as a modern educational trend. It has been determined that in the system of continuing education, distance learning is (1) a tool for changing a profession, (2) part of a well-thought-out career strategy, (3) a guarantee of employment, (4) a way to legitimize a professional status, (5) a form that facilitates obtaining a diploma of higher education, (6) “future education”, education for the future. The subjective meanings of distance education in connection with motivation, the purpose of training, the attitude of students to it are revealed. For students receiving higher education, this is “self-education,” for those whose goal is a diploma, it is “formality”, “superficial mastering of disciplines.” The authors conclude that the consideration of correspondence education in the context of continuity allows us to identify trends in individualization, diversification (the diversity and variability of educational programs, creating opportunities for choice), informatization, and individualization. An assessment of the prospects for extramural higher education based on the experience of forced distance learning (March-June 2020) is given.

Social work in its essence has direct relation with critical thinking what is expressed in the Global definition of social work. It is one of the professions which need immediate reaction to unexpected changes in uncertain situations; therefore, it is relevant to discuss critical thinking contribution to the development of social work profession and its presence in social work education. The aim of the article is to discuss importance of critical thinking in higher education and to present data of case study, which reveals how critical thinking is expressed in social work education. Case study was done in country’s one university. Descriptions of all social work study programs subjects’ descriptions were analysed using quantitative and qualitative content data analysis. The analysis of social work study programs at selected university revealed that critical thinking is more expressed in master level than bachelor level social work study programs and it is more described as domain- specific then domain-general, is mentioned in learning outcomes and assessment and very rarely – study methods. The case study identified the gap between formality and reality. Theoretically critical thinking should be part of social work study programs; however, it is wide possibilities for enhancing critical thinking manifestation in the reality of teaching and learning.

The main purpose of this study is to reveal the view of preschool teachers who are in the first five years of the occupation about mentoring programs applied to them. To reveal the experiences and opinions of the teachers, the qualitative research design, phenomenology, was used. To determine the preschool teachers who are in the first 5 years of their occupation, criterion sampling from purposeful sampling methods was used. To achieve the purpose, the semi-structured interview form was applied to the teachers. The answers were analysed by using descriptive analysis approach. As a result, the teachers said that they have problems in communication and classroom management because both they are inexperienced and they are working with small age children. To overcome these problems, they develop their own ways mostly with trial and error. In addition, in the process of pre-service teachers’ education, they feel lonely. In the process, they do not take any help from any experienced teacher or any other helping resources. Also, they claim that the pre-service teacher trainings do not serve for the aim, and the process is just a formality. It is offered that teachers might be adapted to the profession with the help of special professional trainings and quality mentoring programs.

As a profession, guidance and counseling have a supervision procedure in order to maintain and evaluate purpose to make evaluatif decision in guidance and counseling service. A supervision it self not only about process and result of counseling service, but also an asessment using psychological test, this asessment was useful for complete an inforrmation about psychological competence and individual difference of student. This result of psychological tes will benefit for counselor and also for student to understand and clarification about decision making in counseling service and placement for student according their expertise. A phenomena in Indonesia about counseling profession has been found that was lack of supervision process in guidance and counseling service and also lack of interest about psychology test in school, there are, it’s just to preserve an administration and formality. Phenomena in that practical way maybe can be assumed that because there is lack of information about the ideal of supervision process and also lack of experience and knowledge also untrained a supervisor and counselor about their own abilities. In this case, this paper will describe how should be a supervision be conducted, and the result of this evaluaton study show that with psychological test for student has a significant satisfaction almost 74% with their placement in first grade at senior high school.

Uber drivers in India are witnessing a slow emergence of everyday work formalization predominantly through their engagement with the Uber platform. If a vast segment of the informal employment sector in a country resembles gig work, can companies like Uber bring organizational ability and wage regularity to employment? Despite Uber's economic model being challenged on several labor fronts in scholarship from the global North, we argue everyday interactions with the Uber platform are ushering organized work practices and improved financial stability for drivers who formerly hail from the informal employment sector in India. The everyday driving for Uber is filtered through a conceptual and practical work model drivers gain with due experience of Uber's platform features. Our study uncovers the relationship between the controlling demands of the Uber platform and ensuing driver work adaptations. We present findings from a qualitative investigation of Uber ride-hailing services impacting drivers to 1. optimize earnings 2. link work effort to wages 3. converge towards platform compliance. We posit engaged and persistent interactions with the Uber platform bring structure and formality to the profession of driving for Indian Uber drivers.

This study aims to examine the typographical features of English and Indonesian languages in students’ text messages delivered to the lecturers and the sociopragmatic perspective of the features collected from respondents of diverse profession and education backgrounds. Content analysis is employed to conduct the study whose data are the typographical features identified in 1,521 students’ SMS and that of in 527 WhatsApp text messages and followed by a survey of sociopragmatic attitudes towards the features gathered from 223 respondents. The findings recognize the typographical features of emoticons, vowel deletion, letter deletion, rebus writings—letter deletion, number deletion, letter-number deletion, and images or symbols—and phonetic spelling. The features are employed in various approaches as identified in the ways letters are deleted in the initial, medial and final syllables of the words. Social factor and dimension analyses underpinning the sociopragmatic perspective of the features suggests that the students communicate with older participants in written mode about serious matters for informative function and that the students and lecturers are socially distant between subordinate to superior with high formality degree for referential function which is high information content and low affective content. This social factor and dimension implies the use of formal style which is in line with the respondents’ attitudes acknowledging the formal employment of the language in text messaging. Sociopragmatically, the typographical features are supposed to be used only when texting to the equally aged or younger participants, to the participants who are socially equal or lower with no distance, and for social communication functions or topics, not professional ones

This paper investigates communication between speakers with different first languages in a business setting, referred to as BELF, Business English as a lingua franca. The present paper investigates politeness strategies in BELF e-mail correspondence, and the interplay between them. Politeness strategies play an important role in e-mail correspondence, and this has been identified through studying formality in greetings and closings, and directness in requests. The dataset consists of 46 naturally-occurring e-mails, which have been grouped into internal or external correspondence to accordingly answer the research question, which aims to investigate whether or not there is a difference in the communicative approach depending on who the receiver is. This has been analysed in terms of the politeness strategies formality and directness, and the results show that the internal and external correspondence are very similar to each other, hence the level of formality and directness rather appears to depend on the sender him/herself. The results furthermore present that greetings are mainly informal, closings mainly formal and requests predominantly direct, for both internal and external correspondence. This would conventionally indicate that the e-mails are impolite; however, in accordance with some recent scholars it has been agreed that, along with the development of e-mails, the requirements for politeness have changed, and the e-mails in the present study are primarily considered polite.

Le Code de la propriété intellectuelle est dédié à la protection des auteurs. Sur le terrain contractuel, cela se traduit par un formalisme important qui entoure la cession des droits patrimoniaux. Ainsi, le contrat d’auteur doit être rédigé par écrit, doit détailler le contenu du transfert, et doit préciser la rémunération de l’auteur. L’objectif du législateur, en recourant au formalisme, est de tenter de protéger l’auteur partie faible, de mieux l’informer, de restaurer un certain équilibre contractuel. Une étude de la matière révèle rapidement l’échec du formalisme en ce que le dispositif est inutile et inefficace. Pire, il crée nombre d’effets pervers, qui ne peuvent qu’inciter à douter du bien-fondé du choix du législateur. D’autant qu’il n’est pas possible en la matière de s’appuyer sur le rôle modérateur du juge qu’avait décrit Flour : en droit d’auteur, le juge est très exigeant quant au respect des dispositions formalistes et va même parfois au-delà de l’esprit des textes. Le juge n’assouplit pas le formalisme, il le rigidifie. Face à un droit d’auteur compliqué et exigeant, le professionnel, cocontractant de l’auteur et cessionnaire des droits, a souvent recours aux usages et se détourne ainsi du Code de la propriété intellectuelle. Ainsi, un droit parallèle des contrats d’auteur s’est progressivement mis en place. Devant l’échec du formalisme et sa mise à l’écart par la pratique, le législateur a dû réagir : il a choisi la voie de la réforme (très incomplète et imparfaite) en introduisant dans la loi quelques exceptions au formalisme. Le juge quant à lui semble finalement hésiter sur la démarche à suivre. A côté du mouvement très formaliste qui existe en jurisprudence, un autre courant, plus récent est à noter : certains juges décident de faire de l’interprétation du contrat la pièce maitresse de leur intervention pour faire reculer le formalisme. On contractual grounds, this translates into a significant formality surrounding the transfer of copyright. Thus, the author's contract must be in writing, must detail the contents of the transfer, and specify the remuneration of the author. The legislature's objective, using the formalism, is trying to protect the weaker party (the author), to better inform, and restore some balance within the contract. Studying the material quickly reveals the failure of formalism in that the device is useless and ineffective. Worse, it creates many negative effects, which only encourages one to doubt the validity of the choice of the legislature. Even more so, since it is not possible in such a matter, to rely on moderating the role of judge Flour who described: in copyright law, the judge is very demanding with regard to formalistic compliance and sometimes goes beyond the spirit of the text. The judge did not relax the formalism; he has made it more rigid. When faced with complicated and demanding copyright, the professional, the contractor of the author and assignee of rights, often resorts to the practices and so turns away from the Code of Intellectual Property. Thus, a parallel right of copyright agreements is gradually implemented. Confronted with the failure of formalism and sidelining the practice, the legislature had to react: he chose the path of reform (very incomplete and imperfect) by introducing into the law some exceptions in the formalism. The Judge, meanwhile, seems ultimately unsure of how to proceed. Aside from the movement’s very formalistic jurisprudence, on another more recent note: some judges decide to make the interpretation of the contract the centerpiece of their intervention in order to turn back the formalism. These magistrates, more in line with Flour’s thinking, seem to indicate the solution of the perverse effects of formalism

Recent corporate reporting history is well–known for its corporate failures and
questionable accountancy practices, many of which caused the profession to be
frowned upon. However, the splodge on the accounting profession?s reputation
goes deeper than its corporate reporting failures. The scientific foundation
thereof is also being questioned in academic circles. Even though accounting
scholars have been trying to formulate foundational accounting theories, it has
been the accounting regulators that have been more successful in promoting
their versions of what accounting theory should be, which place a question
mark on the legitimacy of current day accounting theory. This thesis aims to
delve deeper into the foundational philosophies of accounting and its impact on
the practice of accounting.
With the current accounting globalisation efforts, the profession?s stewardship
function is becoming less prominent in its promulgated standards, which in
turn brings the focus on the many questionable ethical practices found in the
profession. Even though the regulatory bodies require their members to commit
themselves to professional codes of conduct, which entails competency,
integrity, objectivity and confidentiality, the 1st article in this thesis claims that
ethical conduct is more than mere adherence to rules and regulations. It is also
about the image of not only the profession, but also accounting research and
education.
Accounting is broadly practised, researched and taught within its so–called
conceptual framework, of which a key objective is to guide and inform accounting practice. The conceptual framework became the basis upon which
accounting theory is based. However, many accounting scholars are openly
critical of presenting accounting theory as a set of practical guidelines. The 2nd
article in the thesis concludes that, from an academic perspective, accounting
theory should be based on three quintessential guidelines. The first of which is
its primary purpose of reporting on the historic economic events, secondly the
provision of useable and comparable information about these events and finally,
the facilitation of business decisions based on relevant and reliable information.
In the above mentioned business decisions, the concept of value is often taken
for granted and many accounting techniques? effectiveness is judged on how
well it approximates an item?s value. The 3rd article argues that the multiple
purposes for which accounting information is used complicates the issue of
value, as reported by accounting. Two key conflicting valuation perspectives are
the so–called decision–usefulness and true income perspectives. The current
drive towards fair value accounting, as opposed to historic cost accounting, cast
doubts on the reliability and relevance of accounting information. Even though
it may be argued that value–based techniques are more relevant because it is a
better reflection of the current business conditions, the mere subjective nature
thereof and the accountant?s objective valuation skills make the true relevance
of this information questionable. Furthermore, mixed model valuations found in
financial statements makes cross–company information unreliable.
Accountancy research of the past four decades focussed on the concept of user
decision–usefulness. The user is also pre–eminent in the globalisation of
accounting standards of the FASB and the IASB, where users are specified as
the equity investors, lenders and capital providers. The 4th article acknowledges
that although these user categories are important consumers of the financial
data, there are other users which are also impacted by the financial information
and the company?s operational performances. There are also concerns over
accounting?s key assumptions, such as its quantification and predictive
abilities, which are fundamental to the decision–usefulness objective.
Furthermore, there are questions around how the regulators decided what
information is suppose to be useful and what type of utility is being sought. In summary, the focus on the vocational aspects of accountancy stands in
contrast to claims of accounting as an academic discipline in the social
sciences. The reality is that the practices of the profession will probably always
play a central role in what is taught at university level, and the regulators, as
the final authority on accounting standards, will probably remain dictatorial in
promulgating their versions of accounting theory. Yet, accounting and its wide
spread impact on society, makes it a key discipline within the economical and
management sciences. It is therefore essential for the resurrection of accounting
as a social scientific discipline that there is a return to foundational accounting
research that will prepare (and enable) prospective practitioners and academics
to question the status quo and push back on accounting practices that are

This chapter covers the various types of legal professional who operate within the Indonesian legal system, performing different functions. ‘Advocates’ are perhaps the most important, providing legal services, both inside and outside court. They have various rights and obligations and are subject to a code of conduct, discussed in this chapter. However, the profession is deeply divided, with two main bar associations fighting for pre-eminence. Also vital to the operation of Indonesia’s legal systems are notaries, who formalize important documents, and land conveyance officials, who draw up conveyancing documents. This chapter also discusses paralegals and the legal aid movement, as well as the restrictions and conditions placed on non-Indonesian lawyers operating in Indonesia.

This chapter considers emerging forms of radio speech developed for formats ranging from scheduled talks to professional announcing. Disrupting established styles of public speaking, radio offered rich subject matter for the new discipline of speech communication, which helped to formalize new rules favoring a well-modulated delivery with restrained, natural speech and careful control over rate, pitch, and enunciation. Three larger sets of cultural tensions impacted these emerging announcing practices: (1) tensions surrounding a standardized national speech movement and its implicit regional, gender, and class biases; (2) concerns over an emergent culture of personality that informed debates on desired degrees of formality and informality in radio speech; and (3) long-standing concerns over disembodied communication-at-a-distance exacerbated by radio’s severing of voices from speakers' physical bodies. Resulting efforts to discipline the radio voice spurred important shifts in period voice culture that resonated across fields from rhetoric and theater to film and phonograph entertainment.

Children’s literature was formally distinguished as a distinct category of literature during the Progressive Era in the United States, largely through the work of professional “book women” like children’s librarians, publishers, and teachers. This chapter examines one of the first attempts to formalize a selection of existing literature into a canon of children’s books, the 1882 pamphlet Books for the Young by Caroline M. Hewins. While this booklist is widely acknowledged by children’s literature scholars to be a major milestone in the formation of the field, the actual texts that comprise the list are understudied. In this chapter, we analyze the corpus of books named in this list by applying rhetorical tagging and focusing on the subset of books designated by Hewins for specific gendered readership (i.e. books especially for boys and especially for girls). We argue that Hewins assigns a narrower scope of text types to the category of books girls will like, which sets a precedent for future gendering of readership for the field of children’s literature well into the 20th century.

AbstractMethods of particles are now recognized as an effective tool for numerical modeling of dynamic mechanical and coupled processes in solids and liquids. This chapter is devoted to a brief review of recent advances in the development of the popular particle-based discrete element method (DEM). DEM is conventionally considered as a highly specialized technique for modeling the flow of granular media and the fracture of brittle materials at micro- and mesoscopic scales. However, in the last decade, great progress has been made in the development of the formalism of this method. It is largely associated with the works of the scientific group of Professor S. G. Psakhie. The most important achievement of this group is a generalized formulation of the method of homogeneously deformable discrete elements. In the chapter, we describe keystones of this implementation of DEM and a universal approach that allows one to apply various rheological models of materials (including coupled models of porous fluid-saturated solids) to a discrete element. The new formalism makes possible qualitative expansion of the scope of application of the particle-based discrete element technique to materials with various rheological properties and to the range of considered scales form microscopic to macroscopic. The capabilities of this method are especially in demand in the study of the features of contact interaction of materials. To demonstrate these capabilities, we briefly review two recent applications concerning (a) the effect of adhesive interaction on the regime of wear of surface asperities under tangential contact of bodies and (b) the nonmonotonic dependence of the stress concentration in the neck of the human femur on the dynamics of hip joint contact loading.

This chapter aims to identify areas in which students of translation can benefit from specific language teaching geared towards their needs as future translators who will normally be expected to translate from as well as into their second language. Drawing on data from translations by several hundred students at a Spanish university, it is shown that general English teaching as it is currently conceived is not sufficient to prepare these students for the job, mainly because they require specific knowledge and contrastive awareness to be able to produce linguistically, stylistically and formally correct translations of the written texts they will be confronted with as professional translators. The data allows us to distinguish several types of frequent mistakes caused by linguistic interference, providing insights into the specific language teaching needs of translation students and setting a starting point for establishing a cross-linguistically valid inventory of the most common types of interference-based errors in translation.

AbstractDespite the recent international ascendance of children as independent actors and rights bearers, reiterated by the UNCRC, in the eyes of the state children appear as not-yet-fully-citizens. As minors, they do not have the capacity to launch legal procedures on their own behalf or to formally approach a court of law to vindicate their rights, independently of their parents or legal guardians. In other words, in the twenty-first century, when child-driven effective pro se representation, or a form of representation of a child by a child before the court, still appears utopian, the indispensability of adult legal actors as conduits to children’s access to justice is an undeniable reality and contingent on a multiplicity of social, political and economic factors that influence what forms of children’s representation that is made possible. However, while the representation of children by the third parties has received criticism both in social anthropology, and in (critical) childhood studies, scholars have only rarely addressed forms of representation and active litigation on behalf of the child, conducted by legal professionals in different arenas—in the domestic courts, such as the immigration courts, and in international institutions, such as the EHRC and the UNCRC.This chapter builds on earlier published anthropological and socio-legal analysis of court cases related to migration and political activism as well as on a number of original cases from both national and international tribunals collected through interviews and fieldwork observations. It aims at complexifying the existent models of children’s representation, while tackling broader issues of access to justice of the disadvantaged groups. By laying the focus on interactions among children and their lawyers, the objective is to deepen the conceptual understanding of the ways children and their lawyers conceptualize processes of justice-making and make sense of shifting social and legal terrains around the conceptions of representation. In what way are professional legal representation any different from other forms of representation and are they alienating or empowering? What are the exact legal mechanisms, social processes and agents that enable such cases to become legally actionable and contribute to recognizing children’s role as legal subjects?

This chapter explores the development of podiatric surgery as a state-registered allied health specialisation, and the negotiations with the state and the medical profession that shaped it. Few allied health professions have successfully achieved recognised specialisms. The medical profession particularly and the nursing profession to a lesser extent have both been successful in achieving internal divisions of labour through state-recognised specialisations. While many allied health professions recognise 'special interests' and endorse specialist areas of practice, few of these specialisms are formally recognised by the state or attract a higher level of professional recognition through higher roles and reimbursement. The two notable exceptions to this are the practice of psychology and podiatry.

Chapter 8 discusses how various occupational groups are trying to advance their positions and gain status as professionals (experts) in line with ideas about the increased importance of knowledge and expertise. People who are not formally qualified are kept at bay. Many of the attempts to advance one group’s position take the form of launching and reinforcing such occupations by turning them into professions. Increased professionalization is broadly viewed as a good thing, for the specific occupation concerned as well as society as a whole. Scoring high on signs of being a ‘profession’ becomes an indicator of success. There is an increasing focus on regulating which occupational groups are to be entitled to do what, by applying statutory provisions and formal requirements for education and training. The general consensus is that a profession is better than a ‘non-profession’; professionalization is seen as a way to bring an occupation forwards in the battle for status, respect, influence, and attractive job positions.

Abstract The development of clinical neuropsychology training originates from the contributions of multiple disciplines within experimental laboratories. As the profession rapidly expanded from these pathways, greater standardization was needed to address the varying backgrounds of training and education. The establishment of professional organizations and task force groups provided an avenue to formalize competency-based education guidelines that would lead to a consistent and unified model of training. A pivotal time point in history came about during the creation of the Houston Conference Guidelines, a consensus document that was developed by multiple professional organizations and provided a roadmap for graduate and postgraduate training. Since the inception of the HCG, clinical neuropsychology training programs have rapidly developed and expanded into other subspecialties (e.g., pediatric clinical neuropsychology). The HCG provides a longitudinal model of integrated training that considers the individual needs of the trainee. To this end, clinical neuropsychology as a professional practice will continue to evolve and incorporate into training advancements in technology, healthcare service delivery (e.g., interdisciplinary teams), and ability to serve a diverse population.

This chapter deals with musicians of Santiago in more depth, showing the importance of music in their professional and personal life. Among other aspects, it shows that these subjects frequently understood music as both a tool for social ascent and a vocation, and that music profession interacted with—but was not determined by—race, genre, familiar status, acquaintances, and other aspects of colonial life. Two of the chapter’s conclusions are that the social status of musicians was not necessarily proportional to the salary that they received, and that the music career of nuns and cathedral musicians was more similar than previously believed, since both passed many years working for free, with the goal of accumulating merits enough to enter the music chapel formally.

Replacing the concept of quality control with that of quality management will not be a formality in the modernization of the quality assessment process of audit missions, as long as the management of the audit entity will assume this responsibility. And the linear approach traditionally used until now can no longer cope with the tasks of a flexible internal control system within an audit firm. The research in question is an empirical investigation to establish whether the new reforms in the field of auditing determine the performance of the audit mission in the context of the current requirements of professional quality standards. At the same time, the aim of the study is to express the opinion regarding the advantages and disadvantages of these developments at the stage of harmonizing the auditor profession with international practices. As part of the research theme, the normative acts in the field were investigated, the international good practices in the exercise of the auditor profession, aiming to highlight the role of reforms in ensuring the quality of services in this field. The research carried out on this subject aims to highlight the issue of the stability of the entire audit quality management system, consistently addressed in most of the approaches of the International Auditing and Assurance Standards Board (IAASB). The scientific investigations carried out on this research topic aim to identify and propose solutions regarding the improvement of the audit quality management system in the context of the review of international standards regarding quality assurance.

Understatement is a rhetorical device, based on making a statement weaker than it could be made in a given situation (i.e. underrating, less confident, presented as unimportant). In modern Russian, especially in colloquial speech, an extremely popular rhetorical figure is a combination of understatement and sarcasm; recently, several new ways of forming this figure have appeared: na minutochku, esli chto, nichego chto..? [Eto na minutochku moya professiya; Eto, esli chto, moya professiya; A nichego, chto eto moya professiya?] ([literally This is my profession, for a minute; This is my profession, just in case; Doesn’t it mean anything that this is my profession?]). For some language units, the corresponding meaning is partially or completely lexicalized. So, na minutochku and na sekundochku do not initially possess a “degrading” sense (if it is not really about time, meaning that you need a tiny bit of time for something); they are always used sarcastically. That said, as opposed to na minutochku and na sekundochku, other word forms (na minutu, na minutku, na sekundu, na mig, na mgnovenie) are not used this way. Thus, here we have a completely lexicalized figure of speech. In general, sarcasm is extremely difficult to formalize. Therefore, detection of linguistic manifestations of sarcasm appears to be extremely valuable.

In the article based on the first Low German-Russian phrasebook (Tönnies Fenne’s Low German Manual of Spoken Russian. Pskov, 1607), recorded by the merchant from Lubeck Tony Fenne for the implementation of elementary business and everyday communicative interaction during the period of trade relations between Russia and the Hanseatic League, the formulaic statements are considered, i. e. repetitive, standardized replicas consisting of one or several words, selected and used by native speakers to a large extent automatically based on their life and communicative experience, depending on the communication situation and on the basis of associative connections developed by practice. The main attention in the article is focused on formulaic statements that contribute to the establishment of contact and its maintenance. Contact-establishing formulas include greeting formulas, also associated with wishes and thanks, dating formulas and appeals. Among the formulas used to maintain a conversation, the article highlights requests and wishes characteristic of everyday and business communication. A special place among the contact-supporting formulas is occupied by metacommunicative statements that direct the dialogue in the right direction from the speaker’s point of view. Formulaic utterances with the lexeme God are defined in the article as multifunctional, which can be used both in situations of establishing contact, and its maintenance and termination and combine greetings, wishes of health, success, good luck, gratitude, assurances of God’s help, etc. An important place in the phrasebook is given to paremia — various maxims, proverbs and sayings that are also multifunctional and are used in various communicative situations as generalizing instructive statements. The advent of the Information Age and global connectivity has placed ethics center stage in the use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT). As the drive towards the establishment of a so-called IT profession gains momentum, ethical conduct and codes of ethics have recently been formulated and introduced formally. Initiatives in this regard can be attributed to, among others, the ACM and the IEEE. Of particular significance is the ImpactCS Project commissioned by the joint taskforce of the ACM and IEEE, and funded by the USA’s National Science Foundation. The increased globalization and inherent nature of ICT transcend physical and cultural borders, making it increasingly difficult to enforce accepted laws, regulations, and codes of conduct. It is thus the responsibility of Computer Science and Information Systems instructors to teach and instill professional values and ethical analysis skills in each and every student. Therefore, we investigate some issues pertaining to the teaching of computer ethics. We conclude this paper by presenting a possible framework to be used in the teaching of computer ethics, and apply this framework to our own institution.

From the 1970s social and political changes in Australia and the burgeoning feminist movement were challenging established power relationships and hierarchies. This paper explores how in the 1980s groups of women architects actively took positions that were outside the established professional mainstream. A 1982 seminar at the University of Queensland galvanised women in Brisbane to form the Association of Women Architects, Town Planners and Landscape Architects. Formally founded the association was multi-disciplinary and not affiliated with the established bodies. Its aims included promoting women and working to reform the practice of these professions. While predominately made up of architects, the group never became part of the Royal Australian Institutes of Architects, it did inject itself into its activities, spectacularly sponsoring the Indian architect Revathi Kamath to speak at the 1984 RAIA. For five years the group was active organising talks, speakers, a newsletter and participating in Architecture Week. In 1984 an exhibition ‘Profile: Women in Architecture’ featured the work of 40 past and present women architects and students, including a profile of Queensland’s then oldest practitioner Beatrice Hutton. Sydney architect Eve Laron, the convenor of Constructive Women in Sydney opened the exhibition. There was an active interchange between Women in Architecture in Melbourne, Constructive Women, and the Queensland group, with architects such as Ann Keddie, Suzanne Dance and Barbara van den Broek speaking in Brisbane. While the focus of the group centred around women’s issues such as traditional prejudice, conflicting commitments and retraining, its architectural interests were not those of conventional practice. It explored and promoted the design of cities and buildings that were sensitive to users including women and children, design using natural materials and sustainability. While the group only existed for a short period, it advanced positions and perspectives that were outside the mainstream of architectural discourse and practice. Nearly 40 years on a new generation of women is leading the debate into the structural inequities in the architectural profession which are very similar to those tackled by women architects in the 1980s.

The IS professional is a person endowed with certain professional skills and attributes usually formally obtained through an education process. The IS professional may also have formal skills in peripheral, non technical areas that may too be obtained through a formal education process. This is typical now in the education of IS students who are aspiring IS professional. In addition they come with a range of soft skills that may be attitudinal and influenced by life and work experiences. This paper suggests that these skills, attributes and work environment do not sit in isolation from each other, but interact in an as yet unmeasured way. How this happens with students studying towards an IS qualification is discussed here and a structural model is developed to explain the interactions. The value of this research is that a picture is presented that shows the interactions between these important elements in a quantitative way.

Besides the acquisition of hardware, the prices of these softwares are a barrier for many professionals that are just now entering the job market, who end up using them by improper means -violating intellectual property laws. Such practice incurs illegal activity and creates distortions in market prices practiced by professionals. That’s why there is a need to study architects’ and urban planners’ workflow to formalize guidelines as to the possibilities of free and paid software. To do so, it’s pursued to creating an infographic about the workflow of architects and the free and paid software that can e used. O modelo Entidade-Relacionamento (ER) é largamente adotado no ensino de modelagem de dados conceitual. Durante o processo de aprendizagem, muitos dos erros cometidos pelos alunos não estão relacionadosá lógica do modelo, mas simás suas construções. Diante disso, este artigo propõe e formaliza uma validação de modelos ER integradaá uma ferramenta acadêmica de modelagem. Esse módulo de validação é capaz de verificar conexões logo que são adicionadas ao modelo e - caso inválidas - não só notificar o aluno como sugerir as conexões corretas. Como contribuição, busca-se tornar o processo de aprendizado mais rápido e interativo para o aluno, além de reduzir o esforço de correção pelo professor.

In Duckler’s account of Michael Heizer’s Double Negative, the viewer becomes a part of the overall experience of scale, of site, and the knowledge of place. In a sense, perception, feeling, and scale hold a very complex relationship in the eye of the participant, and this brings Heizer’s earthwork closer to architecture than one might expect. This correlation between experience, scale perception, and placemaking can enrich the educational experience, thereby affecting the balance of forces that exist between academia, practice, and research. At least, that is the hunch that drew us to the 2019 Antwerp ACSA/EAAE International Teacher Conference. By discussing how a blend-ed set of practices (practice/teaching/research) enabled a mutually reinforcing dialog between the making of ideas, buildings, and landscapes, this paper will present design practice and the practice of design education as inter-related activities. Through our collaborative efforts, we have worked to make the space of inquiry a continuous field that reaches across conventional divisions between the academy and practice. Within this field, research helps ground “the hunch” while “the hunch” tempers the formality of research.Our hunch is this: that a case study of a recent design think-tank will illustrate how we see:• expertise developed in the academic environment can be incorporated into an inquisitive professional design practice;• the studio (both academic and professional) as a thinker space that should not follow a commercial agenda nor should it become a space absent of craft and speculation, urge and fascination, skill and imagination, criticality and creativity, individual formation and social consciousness.

Industry today is as much knowledge based, as it is practical operational based. The business of knowledge is vital to the operation of the facility as is the machinery the product is manufactured. The tacit knowledge of people is difficult to capture in an explicit form, this includes professional insights, judgment, rules of thumb, intuition and subtle issues known by subject matter experts. Tacit knowledge tends not to be formally documented but can be crucially important to communicate to the organization and is a sustainable competitive advantage. Tacit knowledge is lost upon departure of its carriers from the project or from the organization and cannot be applied to other projects or even in later stages of the same project.

The arts do not exist in vacuum and cannot be valued in abstract ways; their value is how they make people feel, what they can empower people to do and how they interact with place to create legacy. This research presents insights across Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand about the value of arts and culture that may be factored into whole of government decision making to enable creative, vibrant, liveable and inclusive communities and nations. The COVID-19 pandemic has revealed a great deal about our societies, our collective wellbeing, and how urgent the choices we make now are for our futures. There has been a great deal of discussion – formally and informally – about the value of the arts in our lives at this time. Rightly, it has been pointed out that during this profound disruption entertainment has been a lifeline for many, and this argument serves to re-enforce what the public (and governments) already know about audience behaviours and the economic value of the arts and entertainment sectors. Wesley Enoch stated in The Saturday Paper, “[m]etrics for success are already skewing from qualitative to quantitative. In coming years, this will continue unabated, with impact measured by numbers of eyeballs engaged in transitory exposure or mass distraction rather than deep connection, community development and risk” (2020, 7). This disconnect between the impact of arts and culture on individuals and communities, and what is measured, will continue without leadership from the sector that involves more diverse voices and perspectives. In undertaking this research for Australia Council for the Arts and Manatū Taonga Ministry for Culture & Heritage, New Zealand, the agreed aims of this research are expressed as: 1. Significantly advance the understanding and approaches to design, development and implementation of assessment frameworks to gauge the value and impact of arts engagement with a focus on redefining evaluative practices to determine wellbeing, public value and social inclusion resulting from arts engagement in Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand. 2. Develop comprehensive, contemporary, rigorous new language frameworks to account for a multiplicity of understandings related to the value and impact of arts and culture across diverse communities. 3. Conduct sector analysis around understandings of markers of impact and value of arts engagement to identify success factors for broad government, policy, professional practitioner and community engagement. This research develops innovative conceptual understandings that can be used to assess the value and impact of arts and cultural engagement. The discussion shows how interaction with arts and culture creates, supports and extends factors such as public value, wellbeing, and social inclusion. The intersection of previously published research, and interviews with key informants including artists, peak arts organisations, gallery or museum staff, community cultural development organisations, funders and researchers, illuminates the differing perceptions about public value. The report proffers opportunities to develop a new discourse about what the arts contribute, how the contribution can be described, and what opportunities exist to assist the arts sector to communicate outcomes of arts engagement in Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand.
