Objective: To provide a historical perspective on factors that have shaped the current structure of athletic training education, and to advocate development of a new conceptual framework for a continuum of professional education in athletic training. Background: Athletic training is a relatively young profession that has undergone significant planned change in education and credentialing to enhance the practitioner knowledge and to promote the credibility of the profession within the healthcare community. However, comparison of the prevailing model for basic and advanced professional education in athletic training to those of other health professions reveals major structural differences. In an effort to promote an integrated approach to the spectrum of athletic training education, and to be consistent with terminology used by other health professions, the term professional education is used to designate entry-level education and the term post-professional education is used to designate post-certification, or advanced, education. Conclusions: Perceived problems with the current educational structure, along with advocated changes, are presented to clarify issues that will affect the future of the athletic training profession. Although change inevitably generates controversy, a failure to address these issues will almost certainly impede advancement of the profession.

Transdisciplinary care and collaboration among team members is necessary and essential to maximize patient outcomes. Collaboration is the most effective when professionals understand the unique role of each discipline. This is potentially more difficult when disciplines overlap in some services provided, or when an individual on the team is dually certified. In pediatric care settings, this is often the case for recreational therapy (RT) and child life (CL). The purpose of this study is to highlight the benefits of transdisciplinary care, as well as summarize similarities and differences between the two fields based on profession-based documents. Findings indicate 28 unique areas of RT practice, 18 grey areas (items found in both RT and CL profession-based documents with shades of differences), eight items found in one profession that are highly likely to occur in both professions, and 31 areas of similarity. Items of similarity do not raise concern, as the items appear to be common among many healthcare professions, such as developing a therapeutic relationship and conducting an assessment. Differences stem from underlying principles of each profession. RT is primarily a treatment/therapy-based profession (eg, functional skill development), whereas the foundation of CL is a helping-based profession (eg, coping within the hospitalized environment). RT must effectively deliver a message of its unique contribution to the healthcare landscape with special emphasis on functional skills development, client and family education and counseling, and community integration and transition training related to maximizing healthy engagement in play, leisure, recreation, and community activities post hospitalization for continued recovery, development, and prevention. Methods of disseminating findings and strengthening RT evidence-based research in pediatric acute care are provided, along with suggested opportunities for collaborative research.

OBJECTIVE: To examine sectoral differences in the professional activities and self-images of Israeli pharmacists. DESIGN, SETTING, AND PARTICIPANTS: Pharmacists from private, community, and hospital sectors (n=145) completed a survey that assessed the rewards accrued from their professional activities as pharmacists and evaluated their professional and sectoral self-image. RESULTS: Few intersectoral differences were found among Israeli pharmacists. Most agreed that the main rewards in the public sector are secure employment, intellectual challenge, and responsibility. In the private sector, the rewards are high income, responsibility, and opportunity to counsel. The majority of pharmacists in all sectors are satisfied with their profession, and 90.7 percent would choose it again. Nevertheless, they ranked pharmacy eighth among nine professions chosen for comparison, which shows quite a low professional image. The private and hospital pharmacists attributed a higher social status to their own sectors than to the community sector. CONCLUSIONS: The inferior professional self-image held by pharmacists, despite the rewards of the profession, should be examined in greater detail.

Various studies show that the rating of the social workers profession is not very prestige in comparison with other professions. Often the leading motives why people choose to do social work are those guided by relative ideals, such as the desire to help people or to accomplish something socially significant not because of the prestige of profession. However, judgements about the occupational prestige in the wider community depend largely on the professional beliefs of social workers themselves and on how social workers themselves are positioning their profession. The focus of the authors of this article on the occupational prestige is analysed from the perspective of social workers in the sector. The study was carried out using a quantitative approach. In this study, the occupational prestige is considered in the context of symbolic capital. According to P. Bourdieu all forms of symbolic capital accumulates through relations of exchange The study results indicate that a significant part of the respondents feel the lack of authority and symbolic power. The symbolic capital in the form of professional capital is an essential factor of the authority and symbolic power of the social worker's profession, which, in turn, affects the occupational prestige in the society.

Competency-based education is designed to produce quality graduates and competent practitioners in social work. However, comparative studies to identify how social work education adapts to demands in practice from employers in coordination with the development of the profession across nations are rare. This study examines the influence of education quality and profession commitment on undergraduate social work students’ perceptions of their professional competence in Indonesia and Taiwan. A sample of 872 senior-year students from private and public universities was surveyed using a structured questionnaire. The analysis found that in the two countries, both education quality and professional commitment were positively associated with students’ perceptions of competence. Additionally, students’ commitment was a relatively important predictor in Indonesia but not in Taiwan. Implications for educators and profession development are discussed for societies where social work relies on the state for licensing and funding of practice.

Introduction: Three early studies from 1974 to 2000 provided information on demographics and salient characteristics of the profession of orientation and mobility (O&M). The current study compared demographic information from those studies with data from a survey instrument administered in 2019. The purpose of this article is to examine changes in demographics that have emerged in the ensuing years. Method: The questionnaire was disseminated using Qualtrics. It was distributed to practitioners in the profession via all available professional electronic discussion groups and was advertised on the websites of the Academy for Certification of Vision Rehabilitation and Education Professionals (ACVREP) and Association for the Education and Rehabilitation of the Blind and Visually Impaired (AER). Findings: The number of O&M practitioners who responded to the survey was 628. Data indicate that the O&M profession is still predominantly Caucasian, and females continue to be in the majority and have expanded within the profession. The percentage of O&M practitioners working in school settings increased by 14% from earlier studies, and respondents had a median age of 41–50 years. Discussion: The results of this study show that the profession remains primarily female, mostly Caucasian, and 65% of practitioners are 41 year of age or older. O&M practitioners continue serving school-age students, thereby supporting results from previous studies. Finally, salaries of O&M practitioners have positively increased over time after accounting for inflation. Implications for Practitioners: Current characteristics of O&M practitioners have implications for recruitment of more diverse young professionals to serve the diversity of those they teach. It is evident the field should try to increase diversity within its ranks to mirror the diverse population they serve. Moreover, O&M salaries have kept pace or exceeded inflation, and thus the profession continues to be attractive in recruiting qualified and diverse professionals.

Abstract The anticipated change of social work regulator in England from the Health and Care Professions Council to Social Work England in 2019 will herald the third, national regulator in seven years for the social work profession. Social Work England will be a new, bespoke, professionally specific regulator established as a non-departmental public body with a primary objective to protect the public. Looking globally, we can observe different approaches to the regulation of the social work profession—and many different stages of the profession’s regulatory journey between countries. Using a comparative policy analysis approach and case studies, this article looks more closely at three countries’ arrangements and attempts to understand why regulation might take the shape it does in each country. The case studies examine England, the USA (as this has a state approach, we focus on New York) and New Zealand, with contributions from qualified social work authors located within each country. We consider that there are three key elements to apply to analysis: definition of role and function, the construction of the public interest and the attitude to risk.

This paper provides an analysis of “elite” accounting practitioners during the formative years of the Canadian accounting profession (1880–1930). The social characteristics of this group in comparison with the Canadian population and the links between the accounting elite and other elite groups in society are used to evaluate the extent to which the profession achieved democratic ideals of access and social mobility for all members of society. The operation of the accounting profession as a democratic institution is argued to be an important aspect of the profession's claim to serve the public interest.

De inträffade företagsskandalerna har bidragit till ökade krav på etik inom revisionsbranschen. För att revisorer ska återfå sin trovärdighet bland klienter och intressenter har kraven i allmänhet ökat på revisorer. Syftet med vår studie är att från ett svenskt perspektiv undersöka graden av etiskt tänkande bland revisorer. Detta kommer även att jämföras med det etiska tänkandet bland studenter för att se om det föreligger skillnader och likheter när det gäller etik.

Metod: För att uppnå vårt syfte med studien har vi valt att genomföra

både kvantitativ enkätundersökning samt kvalitativa intervjuer.

Enkäten genomfördes på totalt 100 respondenter varav 50 revisorer och 50 studenter. Resultaten från enkäten följdes upp av tre djupintervjuer med tre revisorer som även deltog i enkäten.

Teori: Teorin är indelad i tre större avsnitt; etik i allmänhet, etik inom revisionsbranschen samt etiskt tänkande vid beslutsfattande. Den teoretiska referensramen inleds med ett brett perspektiv på etik för att få en bakgrund till vårt huvudproblem som berör etiskt tänkande bland revisorer.

Empiri: Resultaten från vår enkätundersökning och de tre intervjuerna är sammanställda i en empirisk diskussion.

Slutsats: Slutsatserna vi kommit fram till är att revisorer har ett högt etiskt tänkande i beslutsfattandet och de har även ett högre etiskt tänkande än studenter vid etiska dilemman. En annan slutsats är att studenter behöver mer etik undervisning för att vara föreberedda på vad som väntas när de kommer att arbeta på revisionsbyråer. Introduction: In the recent decades the auditing profession has been faced by several scandals. These scandals have brought up a lot of attention in media. Corporate scandals have led to increased demands for ethics within the auditing profession. To regain the trustworthiness in the auditing profession and to prevent future scandals, the demands on the profession have increased. The aim of the study is, from a Swedish perspective, to investigate the level of ethical reasoning among auditors and accounting students when facing an ethical dilemma.

Methodology: In order to achieve the purpose of the study, we have chosen to apply both a quantitative- and a qualitative approach. To investigate the level of ethical reasoning we have conducted a survey on 50 auditors and 50 accounting students. This was followed up by three in-depth interviews with three auditors who participated in the survey.

Theoretical framework: The theory is divided into three major areas; ethics in business, ethics in auditing and ethical reasoning in decisionmaking. The theory starts with a wider perspective to end with the theory concerning the main problem.

Empirical findings: The results from the survey and the interviews are presented in an empirical discussion.

Conclusion: The conclusions that can be drawn from this study are that auditors posses a high level of ethical reasoning in their decision- making. Auditors also have a higher ethical reasoning than accounting students when facing ethical dilemmas. Another conclusion is that students need more ethics education before entering the auditing profession, since ethics is what the profession is all about.

Mood disorders are often linked with concurrent partner relational distress. The present study compared the cost effectiveness of treating mood disorder alone versus when the condition is comorbid with partner relational distress. Cigna, a leading health insurance management company in the US, provided outpatient data. Participants included patients with solely a mood disorder diagnosis (n = 72,712) and those with both a mood disorder and a comorbid partner relational distress diagnosis (n = 113, including 69 females and 44 males). These participants were treated in outpatient settings throughout the US. These numbers are surprisingly low considering the extensive literature showing a strong relationship between mood disorder and partner relational distress. A multivariate general linear model and binary logistic regressions were used to analyze the data. Results indicate that having a mood disorder present with a partner relational distress disorder significantly increased the average cost of care by about $471 per person compared to having solely a mood disorder. For mood disorders alone, there were also differences in cost effectiveness and readmission for mood disorders by professional license type, age, and gender with counselors being the most cost effective and medical doctors being the least (60% more costly). The treatment modality used impacted readmission rates, with family therapy having the lowest (8.54%) and mixed therapy having the highest (33.54%). Due to the small sample size, we were unable to determine the significance of subsequent analyses for comorbid disorders. Clinical implications and future directions for research will be discussed.

The purpose of this study was to find out the attitudes and beliefs of minority college students enrolled at Missouri College in Brentwood, Missouri in reference to the dental hygiene profession. In particular, does their oral health and dental knowledge relate to their knowledge of profession of dental hygiene? One hundred and six students gave their consent to participate in the study via Survey Monkey. The study was conducted in May 2015 for a period of four weeks. Four statements were designed to gauge minority students’ knowledge of dental hygiene as a career. No differences were found based on gender, age, education and ethnicity. A difference was found based upon the respondent’s program of study. Further research is needed spread the word about dental hygiene programs and to explain the role of the dental hygienist.

Teachers all over the country are leaving the profession at an alarming rate and by understanding the attitudes and perceptions of both first- and second-career teachers as well as novice and veteran teachers on various areas of teaching, we can begin to identify better and more specific ways to mentor and support all teachers regardless of their age, stage, and life experiences when they enter the profession. The population of the study was limited to 677 kindergarten- through eighth-grade teachers in Sevier County, Tennessee. The study revealed that whether a teacher is novice, veteran, first-career, or second-career, there is no difference in their perceptions concerning the teaching career, no difference in their perceptions regarding the various aspects and challenges of teaching and no difference in their perceptions of how teachers are perceived by colleagues. One difference was found, indicating that novice and veteran teachers have a different perception of their mentoring experiences, with novice teachers rating their mentoring experiences as more positive than veteran teachers. The majority of teachers participating in the study was happy with their chosen career and would encourage others to enter the field. Findings indicated they shared ideas with colleagues and were willing to share in return. Most said that they felt they made a difference in their students’ lives. Student behavior and time were issues of concern to the teachers in the study. Some teachers pointed out that they sometimes were not able to teach because of a student's behavior and that recent problems in society and at home have made this issue worse. Some said the paperwork associated with teaching was overwhelming, and they had difficulty completing the necessary tasks outside of instruction within a normal school day. In spite of the problems, the majority of educators said they would do it all over again.

C’est dans ce contexte que la France et l’Allemagne ont mis en place des programmes de Disease Management (DM) dans le but de fournir des soins plus structurés et de paiement à la performance (P4P) pour inciter financièrement les fournisseurs à répondre à certains objectifs.Ces réformes, qui reflètent le rôle croissant de l’État dans les deux systèmes d’assurance maladie, se sont inspirées des modèles anglo-saxons mais se concrétisent de manière distincte en fonction des caractéristiques des systèmes des deux pays. En Allemagne, DM et P4P se sont basés sur la concurrence croissante entre les caisses d’assurance maladies et entre les hôpitaux tandis qu’en France, ces réformes ont reflété un changement du rôle de l’assurance maladie « de payeur à acteur ».Le positionnement de la profession médicale vis-à-vis de ces nouveaux instruments de gouvernance, qui sont de nature hiérarchique et qui imposent une logique comptable, est une question clef en France et en Allemagne. Health systems in many welfare states are undergoing important transformations, triggered by increasing budgetary pressures and characterized by the growing role of market and rationalization measures. In this context, France and Germany have introduced disease management (DM) programs to deliver more structured patient care and pay-for-performance (P4P) measures to provide financial incentives for providers meeting certain objectives.These reforms, which reflect the increasing role of the State in both statutory health insurance systems, were inspired by Anglo-Saxon models but translated in distinct ways, owing to differences in the two countries’ systems. In Germany, DM and P4P were based on increasing competition between sickness funds and between hospitals, while in France these reforms reflected a shift by its central insurance system “from payer to player”.The positioning of the medical profession vis-a-vis these new instruments of governance, which are hierarchical in nature and impose stronger public accountability, was a key issue in both France and Germany. The negotiation processes were accompanied by a growing disconnect between physician representatives and their memberships in both countries, despite significant differences in the way physicians are traditionally integrated into health system regulation

The purpose of the study was to determine if the self-reported needs of a selected group of Black male Vietnam veterans was different than White male Vietnam veterans. The researcher used archival data for this study. The data included information on personal demographics, military data, health information, social information, education and employment, and current living information. A self-Report Questionnaire was used to collect data. Contrary to the existing literature, with specific references to cultural and ethnic awareness, this study found no statistically significant differences in the self-reported needs of Black and White male Vietnam veterans.

Et ceci ne peut se concevoir sans prendre en considération la composante la plus stratégique, le capital humain. La thématique de la mobilité professionnelle intra-organisationnelle compte parmi celles qui suscitent aujourd'hui le plus d'intérêt. Les raisons en sont multiples, mais il s'agit surtout de disposer d'une main-d'œuvre flexible et mobilisable sur plusieurs emplois pour accompagner les évolutions rapides des professions et des qualifications, sans perdre pour autant les éléments les plus compétents. La présente recherche propose un prolongement de la réflexion menée dans les travaux concernant la contribution de la gestion des ressources humaines au développement des organisations. Notre thèse vise à comparer les enjeux et les limites de la mobilité interne des cadres dans les établissements de crédit en France et au Maroc et à rendre compte de l’impact correspondant sur leur performance organisationnelle
Adapting oneself to the constant evolution of internal and external environments presents one of the serious challenges to all companies. And one cannot conceive of the latter without taking into account the most strategic component: the human capital. Nowadays, the question on professional mobility within an organization is among those that generate the most interest. Although many a reason could be found, it is more a matter of how to keep a workforce flexible and available to occupy several positions in order to stimulate the rapid evolution of professions and qualifications, without having to lose the most competent employees.This research bears upon the latest works on the topic and proposes to further reflect on the contributing effects brought by the management of human resources onto the development of organizations. The thesis that we will support aims at comparing the stakes in and the limits to the executives’ internal mobility in companies within the banking sector in France and Morocco, and at demonstrating its impacts on their organizational performance

The definition of requested requirements by the companies represents one of the key aspects for the entrance of new professional figures. In particular, focusing the attention on food & beverage sector, in this study two job profiles are considered: pastry chef e pastry assistant. Data for this analysis are collected by The AdeccoGroup in Italy in 2016 and 2017. The personal competencies to make capable to face the growing flexibility of the profession are object of specified request cross-sectional to more economic sectors. After a brief description of the database content, the principal objective of the research is to report the most requested requirements for the companies. Other analysis are provided to show possible relationships among these requirements and the previous experience owned by candidates. Finally, a comparison is presented about the competencies requested by the two job figures using descriptive statistics and classification techniques.

AbstractDeclining birth rates, an ageing population and the goal to remain globally competitive and prosperous puts pressure on the German labour market and increases the demands for greater labour force participation of women. Women with a migration background constitute a growing share of the German population, but a disproportionally lower share of the total labour force. We focused on the gender-specific occupational preferences of female adolescents with a Turkish migration background compared to those without any migration background and related these preferences to the young women’s interests, family orientations, normative gender role perceptions, and the socioeconomic status of the aspired profession in our analyses. Contrary to our expectations, our results indicate that Turkish girls less often aspire to female-dominated occupations than majority native-born girls. Instead, they prefer integrated occupations, which tend to be more prestigious and better paid. This might be mostly due to their ambitious occupational aspirations, because the gap between native-born and Turkish girls is reduced substantively after controlling for aspirations.

AbstractThe comparison of patient occupation in French and English mental institutions has highlighted different attitudes towards the causation and treatment of mental disorder and towards different models of care. It has also emphasised the influence of factors external to institutions, such as poverty, welfare provision, local employment, war and financial crises, on patient occupation. The comparison has revealed how the perceived need by one group of medical professionals (in this case, psychiatrists) for a particular treatment (occupational therapy) can stimulate the growth of a new profession and the infrastructure to support it. It has demonstrated how old ideas and practices can be re-imagined and brought back into use, becoming the hallmark of a modern hospital once again. While the precise nature of the activity and the justifications for its allocation have changed in emphasis over time and in different settings, patient occupation has remained a constant in institutions for the mentally disordered since the early nineteenth century.

AbstractDespite the fact that the Nordic countries had very different experiences during World War II, cooperation intensified in the 1950s. The Nordic school model, with its emphasis on the child in focus, inclusion, equal opportunities for all, and an extended comprehensive and undifferentiated school system, emerged. The sorting of pupils into different tracks took place at age 15 or 16. The 1960s saw a significant expansion of the education systems, with the Swedish school model emerging as a paradigm for the other Nordic countries. With Finland’s success in the first comparative education studies, Finnish teacher education became the standard for teacher education in Iceland and Norway. Sweden follows more complex models for teacher education, while Danish teacher education is an outlier from a Nordic comparison perspective. While Finnish teacher education has shown stability, frequent changes in models of teacher education in the other Nordic countries are typical. In public discourse, crises in teacher education are a recurring theme. These crises concern criticism of the quality of applicants, what student teachers learn, and insufficient graduate production. The problems facing teacher education are varied, but where they occur, they are dire; there are no simple solutions to the challenges that currently exist.

The article is devoted to the peculiarities of the practical use of cloud services for the organization of qualitative professional training of future specialists. It is established that in order to implement state policy, there is an essential need for using various ICT, in particular cloud services, which are not only economically acceptable in the new educational environment, but also a powerful tools of obtaining new knowledge, skills and abilities. The advantages and disadvantages of using cloud services in the educational process of higher education are substantiated; the examples discuss the methods of using cloud services in the process of studying fundamental disciplines. The object of the study is the professional training of students in higher education institutions. The subject of research is the process of organizing professional training of future specialists with the use of cloud services. To achieve the set goals, a set of general scientific (analysis, synthesis, comparison) and specific scientific (bibliographic, problem-based) was used. Observation and conversation manipulation allowed to highlight the advantages and disadvantages of using cloud services and draw conclusions from the problem under investigation. The foreign experience of using cloud services has been researched and the features of the application of traditional and distance technology training abroad have been determined. It describes the use of the blog as a media-educational technology during the advent of pedagogical practice. The methods of using cloud-based services on the example of creation of a distance course “Linear algebra and analytic geometry” are considered. The prospects of research, which consist in getting acquainted with cloud technologies of the humanitarian profile future specialists at the second higher education, are determined. It has been established that the practical application of cloud technologies in the educational process will promote more qualitative and progressive learning; the formation of a close interaction between the teacher and student; development of professional skills and abilities of independent work.

This report presents preliminary results of a study investigating the groundwater laws and regulations of thirteen U.S. states. The purpose of the project is eventually to compile and present the groundwater laws and regulations of every state in the United States that could then be used in a series of comparisons of groundwater governance principles, strategies, issues, and challenges. Professor Gabriel Eckstein at Texas A&M University School of Law and Professor Amy Hardberger at Saint Mary’s University Law School developed a matrix to ascertain chief components and characteristics of the groundwater legal regime of each state. Student researchers then used the matrix to respond to a standardized set of questions about the groundwater laws and regulations of a selection of states. Before continuing with assessments of the remaining states, Professors Eckstein and Hardberger present in this report the results developed thus far, and now seek feedback about the overall project, including its objectives, methodology, and preliminary results.

Target. Currently, the development of professional values and official behavior of civil servants are relevant for training personnel for the public authority system. One of the ways to form the personality of a civil servant who is a professional is to increase the real level of his social responsibility. The article is devoted to the study of the phenomenon of social responsibility of civil servants. Method or methodology of the work. The systematic, activity-based and axiological approaches were used as methodological principles in the work. The research methods were analysis and synthesis, movement from the general to the particular, comparison and analogy, movement from the abstract to the concrete, complex generalization and classification. Results. The main results of the study include the concretization of the concept of «social responsibility of civil servants», the identification of the essential properties of social responsibility, the determination of the features of its functioning, the formulation of urgent problems for further research in this aspect. Scope of the results. The scientific results of the article can be applied when conducting psychological and pedagogical research and organizing classes in educational institutions of higher education.

This report is the second volume in a continuing project designed to explore and articulate the groundwater laws and regulations of all fifty U.S. states. This particular report presents surveys for sixteen states throughout the country. The first volume featured thirteen state surveys and can be found at: http://www.law.tamu.edu/usgroundwaterlaws. The purpose of the project is to compile and present the groundwater laws and regulations of every state in the United States that could then be used in a series of comparisons of groundwater governance principles, strategies, issues, and challenges. Professor Gabriel Eckstein at Texas A&M University School of Law and Professor Amy Hardberger at Texas Tech University School of Law developed a matrix to ascertain chief components and characteristics of the groundwater legal regime of each state. Student researchers then used the matrix to respond to a standardized set of questions about the groundwater laws and regulations of a selection of states. In the near future, additional volumes with surveys of the remaining twenty-one U.S. states will be issued.

The article discusses the theory and methods of simulation training, its significance in the context of training specialists for areas where the lack of primary qualification is critical. The most widespread hardware and software solutions for the organization welders' simulation training that use VR- and AR- technologies have been analyzed. A review of the technological infrastructure and software tools for the virtual teaching-and-production laboratory of electric welding has been made on the example of the achievements of Fronius, MIMBUS, Seabery. The features of creating a virtual simulation of the welding process using modern equipment based on studies of the behavioral reactions of the welder have been shown. It is found the simulators allow not only training, but also one can build neuro-fuzzy logic and design automated and robotized welding systems. The functioning peculiarities of welding's simulators with AR have been revealed. It is shown they make it possible to ensure the forming basic qualities of a future specialist, such as concentration, accuracy and agility. The psychological and technical aspects of the coaching programs for the training and retraining of qualified welders have been illustrated. The conclusions about the significant advantages of VR- and AR-technologies in comparison with traditional ones have been made. Possible directions of the development of simulation training for welders have been revealed. Among them the AR-technologies have been presented as such that gaining wide popularity as allow to realize the idea of mass training in basic professional skills.
