Streszczenie:
The purpose of this paper is to study the application of HACCP principles in dairy production systems for mitigation of potential water related hazards by control measures and legislation applicable at farm level. HACCP logical sequence approach including some principles of environmental risk assessment was the method used for the present study (FAO/IDF, 2004;Horchner et al., 2006). Literature review, farms visits, interviews, informal questionnaires and confirmation on site of the gathered information were the prerequisites of the study. Four flow diagrams in SA and three in Benin were drawn to describe the 11 steps relating the activities of the seven types of dairy farming systems recorded altogether in these countries (FAO/IDF, 2004,McCrindle, 2007). From the flow diagrams, almost three groups of 30 potential hazards were identified. Biological, chemical and physical hazards were characterized and their effects described according to the source, pathways, mechanisms, of water pollution. It was noticed that water use during farming activities is linked to the number of animals and is an important factor to qualify the magnitude of the risk of water pollution. Critical Control Points (CCPs) were identified. In SA, national legislation includes legal prerequisites for commercial dairy farming systems (SA GOVERNMENT 2005, 2006, 2007). Although water resources policies, strategies, legislation and management are strongly established, their implementation does not clearly include dairy by-products. In Benin dairy production strategy and development started in 2000. Basic legislation relating water resources is being updated. In commercial farming systems (F1 and F2 in SA), F7 in Benin, biological and chemical potential hazards are the main threat to water quality. Direct or indirect source of contamination due to manure, feces, urine, chemicals and stock remedies, waste water, occurs through husbandry practices (milking), pasture and housing. In SA, farmers are aware of International dairy standards, norms and practices such as GAP, GMP and GHP even if the practices are not completely respected. HACCP is not well yet well implemented at producer level althougth some commercial dairy processors have started the implementation of the system (FEDICS, 2004, CEBENOR, 2007). Environmental care (CCP11 and CCP12) are the main critical control points recorded which are not mitigated by the national legislation in both countries. In regard to traditional farming systems (F3, F4) and in SA, (F5, F6) in Benin, national legislation does not include prerequisites for biological and physical hazards; these are the main threat of water pollution and are due to direct or indirect contamination through drinking and grazing. Chemical hazards are not important because inputs of stock remedies are low in these systems. Farmers are not aware of International dairy standards, norms and practices such as GAP, GMP and GHP which are fairly respected. HACCP is unknown at producer level. CCPs relating animal treatment and care are partly mitigated by the national legislation. Stock remedies, drugs residues and Pharmaceuticals are controlled in both countries although Benin faces the introduction of uncontrolled veterinary drugs through illegal frontiers. The majority of the CCPs are not completely mitigated by national legislation for traditional dairy farms in both countries.

Rachel Carson warned people on her book "Silent Spring" in 1962, the abuse of chemicals and resources exhaust will affect the global environment. With the world's natural disasters continue to occur, abnormal climate and energy depletion, people began to focus environment problem. Shipping is the key point of the development of international trade. The ports lead the overall development of their port cities’ businessness. However, the over exploitation and operation have resulted in serious pollution problem. Presently many countries face port environment problems and serious pollution. How to implement environmental sustainability and maintain port economical development are included in every port’s important topics. The purpose of this study is to investigate the pollution generated by port development, via collecting the domestic and foreign port of environmental documents, information, as well as those studies of green port policy from many countries which have enforced green port plan and enact those regulations for the prevention of pollution. It also discusses the current environment policy of the world in order to create sustainable policy, reduce damage to environment. Through literature review and case studies, including those examples of Long Brach port, U.S.A, this study tries to summarize the objectives and analyze those policies relating to green port development. It also aims to explore those regulations provided by the IMO and find out how shipowners are required to response those requirements imposed by international conventions, including those requirements relating to ships and shipowners to use low sulfur fuel and avoid pollution port environment. Taiwan also face the same challenges and needs to implement relevant laws and regulations for green port. This study tries to provide relevant suggestions for improving port pollutions and upgrade environmental protection in Taiwan’s port. Abstract Onboard Training Needs of Seafarers for Safety Maintaining and Pollution Preventing On 1st of July 1998, International Safety Management Code (ISM Code) have came into force as mandatory for certain ship owners/operators/managers have to comply with and have to establish their Safety Management System (SMS). SMS composed with management, procedure, and implementation subjects/layers; for it''s wider areas of involving, this research only aimed at foundation of it''s implementation subject/layer - "Onboard Training Needs of Seafarers for Safety Maintaining and Pollution Preventing ". Under SMS, " Onboard Training Needs of Seafarers for Safety Maintaining and Pollution Preventing" have got into active sense of "emergency preparedness and response" from previous passive sense of "SOLAS Training" In addition to those probe, "Master''s responsibility in preparation the ship for sail" is also included. Through this research, the foundation of implementation and fulfillment of SMS was established and the following effects also can be achieved. 1.Ensuring seafarers to carried out onboard training needs of seafarers for safety maintaining and pollution preventing for meeting certain regulations. 2.Minimize accidents caused by "Human Error". 3.Strengthen Ship-Shore emergency preparedness and response. 4.Increasing Ship-Shore management effect for decreasing operation cost. 5.Ending Ship-Shore miscommunication and/or communication obstacles.

Abstract Oil spill incidents in the waters of Taiwan frequently occur, but the mechanism of dealing with oil spills is not deployed promptly until the incidents happened for quite a while. That made officers find themselves in straitened circumstances due to a finite amount of response time. This style of management is called a passive management mechanism. In order to make management become more efficient, this paper explores that the mechanism could be initiated earlier so that officers can take preemptive strikes based on proper preventive measures,to prevent stranded ships and oil spills from happening. This mechanism is called”Risk Management”.This approach is based on two dimensions. The first one is about preventing ships from being stranded and the second one is about avoiding oil spill incidents when ships are marooned. These two dimensions allow officers to monitor rough sea, inappropriate routes, and illegal ships. When shipwrecks occur, officers can immediately initiate the mechanism of oil pollution management. This thesis studies and analyzes related references and literatures. Although there are not many major pollution events in Taiwan coast recently, the statistic data from Harbor Bureau and Coast Guard Administration showed that there still are shipreck risks in ocean near Taiwan. The ecology system of the research area is rich and highly sensitive and fragile. Besides, the study focuses on simulations of oil spill tracks to predict their following directions and spreading. The tracking prediction simulation based on theories, experienced formulas and the related data to the coasts. This research also uses「Google Earth」satellite graphes to discuss land-use Planning. The GIS graphes from Constructuon and Planning Agency of the Ministry of the Interior and the planned rescue reads from “Urban Disaster Prevention Plan ” wese also used to formulate the basis of this research. The followed planning of oil pollution preventive equipments for coast areas were based on the USA NOAA regulations. And then case simulations were used to identify related problems and then discuss solutions for their major domestic marine pollution events. In summary, the research could make the emergency plan of coast pollution prevention be evidence-based in the future. The results of this research are as the following: a same assumed location of shiprecks in different seasons leads to varied pollution directions and spreadings. In winter, the ocean meteorology would easily make oil-spill polluts the coast seriously. Since the eco-system is so rich and fragile that prevention measures become very important. If the third level pollution events and above occur, the current resources will not be sufficient to meet the needs. The deployment of supporting facilities and resources for coast pollution emergency management are therefore imperative. This study investigates and discusses the required contents for the emergency countermeasures for oil pollution prevention plan, and thus hopely could serve as a valuable reference for its formulating.

Streszczenie:
AbstractIn this chapter we present a very special form of social illusions: unrealistic pessimism (the expectation that negative events will happen to us in comparison to others who will be less affected by negative events like earthquakes or radioactive pollution). On that basis, we were interested in which illusions, which are associated with appearing in the moment of crisis, will appear during the eruption of the COVID-19 pandemic: that is, unrealistic optimism or pessimism (I perceive myself as less or more threatened than others) and the better-than-average effect. It turned out that unrealistic optimism was present from the very beginning and did not disappear even when our respondents were delivered clear data (e.g., number of casualties, the rapid growth of cases) showing that all societies around the world were in great danger. In this chapter we also present global studies showing how widespread this phenomenon is.Interestingly, in our studies the better-than-average effect was also present in many countries: respondents perceived themselves as more involved in actions preventing COVID-19 infection whilst others were less involved.

Streszczenie:
SummaryThis chapter provides an overview of the international and regional legal and policy frameworks relevant to the prevention and management of marine litter. These instruments set the obligations and guidance for national action of participating countries. Legal and policy responses by governments provide an opportunity to address the many drivers of marine litter across the life cycle, from the design of products to the management of the waste they generate. Public awareness, consumer behaviour and industry engagement also play key roles in preventing marine litter. These interventions alone remain voluntary, fragmented and insufficient to tackle the marine litter problem. The national and/or regional responsibility of parties to prevent marine litter as established by these frameworks is not unique to the countries of Africa, and many of the barriers to effective compliance are shared with developing countries in other regions. The social context in which national implementation measures must operate can be unique to countries or regions. This chapter summarises the duties established by the legal and policy frameworks at the international and regional levels that may be applied to the issue of marine litter. It provides an African context to the barriers and drivers of effective implementation of national measures in compliance with international obligations. The scope of this chapter extends beyond the responsibility to prevent marine pollution, to establish a holistic and integrated duty of governments to provide a healthy environment and sustainable livelihoods as recognised in the global Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The review of these international, regional and national legal and policy frameworks therefore considers the inclusion of these broader principles to underpin prevention and management of marine litter.

Streszczenie:
Collision and grounding accidents account for more than half of all accident cases in most cases. Such marine accidents cause severe structural damage to the ship and lead to marine pollution as well as life and financial loss. For preventing the loss of property and pollution, and preparing a countermeasure, it is needed to predict a residual hull girder strength after accident regardless of someone’s special skill. The aims of this study are to i) investigate the residual hull girder strength by quantitative approach with collision location (height and penetration), ii) develop an empirical formula for calculating a residual hull girder strength which whoever can calculate in association with collision locations. In this study, three kinds of ships such as very large crude oil carrier, Suezmax, and Aframax class double hull oil tankers are selected as target struck vessels. And, the Intelligent Supersize Finite Element Method (ISFEM) is applied to assess the residual hull girder strength of damaged structures after collisions. Based on the ISFEM results, an empirical formula for calculation of residual hull girder strength is developed as a function of the collision depth and penetration. The developed formula in this study can be applied by anyone, and rapidly calculate its strength for preventing sequential events (collapse, fuel spill, etc.) after collision.

Household air pollution (HAP) is linked to 4 million deaths worldwide, with 85% occurring in Low-middle income countries. HAP predominantly affects women as they tend to do the household daily chores. It is therefore important to understand women’s perceptions and wants for this topic. This was a joint project with 15 qualitative semi structured interviews conducted by each researcher. The research took place during May and June 2016 in Kavresthali, a village in Kathmandu district, interviewing married women over the age of 25. Data was analysed using thematic analysis. Burning wood on a traditional cook stove was identified as the most common cause of HAP. The effects of HAP most commonly affected women, with eye and respiratory problems the most commonly associated symptom. Cost, habit and taste were barriers identified preventing the switch to cleaner fuel types and stoves. Lack of information and cheaper gas were key improvements participants wanted to see. The findings in this study were similar to those identified in the literature based in other LMIC. Despite numerous common themes, unique challenges were identified in Nepal. Geographical and political issues were exclusive to Nepal. Four SMART recommendations are made which are specific to the study area: • Subsidised cleaner fuel • Education and advice to empower local women • Promotion of Improved cook stoves • Further research focusing on housing structure and ventilation Key Words Household Air pollution, Nepal

Streszczenie:
Mid-infrared laser diodes are important sources for laser radar systems, molecular spectroscopy, and remote sensing of pollution and gases. InGaSbAs/GaAlSbAs lasers emitting at 2 μm are explored in detail since first room-temperature (RT) lasers [1-3] were demonstrated. However, a breakthrough in 3-4 μm lasers was made only recently [4-6]. Long wavelength lasers exhibit low characteristic temperature (T0 ≤ 30 K [6]), preventing them from operation at RT. One of the possible reasons of high threshold current at RT is Auger-recombination, which is proportional to cube of carrier density. Therefore, for long-wavelength lasers, it is especially important to decrease the carrier density at threshold.
