This report contains a maintenance plan to a tenant-owners´ society who administers by Riksbyggen. The maintenance plan is an aid to the administrator and the house owner. It describes what you need to do on the building, when you need to do it and who much it cost. It is important to plan the future maintenance and be prepared to the maintenance expenses. You also get knowledge about the deposition of the year and are able to keep the charge down. Properties need external maintenance of the ground, external and internally maintenance of the building and maintenance of installations and machines in the house. The maintenance can be neglected if you don´t look after the property. Examinations of Sweden´s present-day resident indicate that the maintenance is neglected.

This thesis has presented an insight on the application of power coercive approach to organisation change. It has been concerned with the organisational change in the restructuring of health care, a case in point is the pathology service in a restructured hospital. The study has shown the process of change and the behaviour of people at work. The restructuring process per se has been a success, but the social system seems not to have progressed in parallel. This might arise from the fact that the planners for change were more focused on the health care economics and development, leaving the social system to fall in place on its own. The thesis has shown that the process of deliberate planned change is brought about by incremental strategy. In implementing change, power-coercive strategy is one possible option, but it must be adequately supported by a normative re-educative process. This is evident from the results of the survey. The study has shown that the omission of the normative re-educative process has led to a problem of a split and divided culture. The finds in this research provides information on the role of a power-coercive incremental strategy in planned organisational change, and the need for a normative re-educative process to adapt the social system in parallel. A theory of deliberate and planned incrementalism is posited in the conclusion.

This thesis evaluates the product to product changeover process of the line S10 at the Coca-Cola European Partners manufacturing plant in Jordbro, Sweden. The target has been to propose improvements to reduce the total planned downtime by 10%. The total planned downtime in March of 2019 was 4449 minutes. Secondary data has been used to identify the current situation. A study visit took place at the Coca-Cola European partners manufacturing facility in Dongen, the Netherlands, to serveas inspiration. Single Minute Exchange of Dye (SMED) methodology was applied to improve the most frequent planned downtime event (PDT event), which was performed 22 times during March of 2019 at an average of 72,8 minutes. The theoretical improvement for PDT event CIP programme 1, by applying SMED methodology, is estimated to roughly 16 minutes. This theoretically saves 8% of the total planned downtime for March of 2019. The same solutions from the SMED methodology could be applied to other PDT events, which would increase the number of events from 22 to 27. This would theoretical save 9,6 % of planned downtime for March of 2019.

Implementations of information technology solutions to address specific information problems are only successful when the technology is utilized. The antecedents of technology use involve user, system, task and organization characteristics as well as externalities which can affect all of these entities. However, measurement of the interaction effects between these entities can act as a proxy for individual attribute values. A model is proposed which based upon evaluation of these interaction effects can predict technology utilization. This model was tested with systems being implemented at a pediatric health care facility. Results from this study provide insight into the relationship between the antecedents of technology utilization. Specifically, task time provided significant direct causal effects on utilization. Indirect causal effects were identified in task value and perceived utility constructs. Perceived utility, along with organizational support also provided direct causal effects on user satisfaction. Task value also impacted user satisfaction in an indirect fashion. Also, results provide a predictive model and taxonomy of variables which can be applied to predict or manipulate the likelihood of utilization for planned technology.

This master thesis report presents a model for leveling of the workload in preventivetrain maintenance, useful to improve workshop eciency and production quality. The recurring maintenance tasks for one trainset are arranged in relation to each other,ensuring that the tasks are performed often enough and that the workload is roughlythe same at every maintenance occasion. Literature of previous work has been sought for,but with limited success. Both a linear minimax optimization program and a quadraticprogram have been formulated, and a solution to the linear problem is presented. The quadratic model was not solvable in reasonable time. Further evaluation of the manhours actually needed for the tasks is recommended before implementation.

This study seeks to understand the larger cultural context that gave rise to what is referred to as "non-design," a term designated to denote a particular aesthetic that is characterized by a suspicion of, and/or rejection of, "conscious" design, while embracing various phenomenon that emerge without "intention" or "deliberate human design." The study traces the phenomenon of "non-design" in British and American design culture of the postwar period. The author argues that following Friedrich von Hayek's theories of the "undesigned" nature of social institutions and his concept of a "spontaneous order" of the 1940s, non-design first emerged in design discourse and practice in the early 1950s in England, particularly in the work of certain members of the Independent Group, and by the mid-1960s it gained currency in the United States in the architectural and urban theories of Charles Moore, Robert Venturi and Denise Scott Brown, and particularly in Reyner Banham's writing on American urbanism. While rarely made explicit, this dissertation argues that the concept of non-design played an important role in design and urban debates of the postwar period.

In both civil and military aviation, maintenance plays a large role in ensuring continued safe operation and accounts for a significant portion of operating costs. Typically, a conservative planned maintenance (PM) program is initially developed to ensure the aircraft reliability but this often leads to over-maintenance. With more in-service experience, operators seek to customize the maintenance interval accordingly in order to reduce workload and cost without compromising safety. With prevailing use of health usage monitoring systems (HUMS), the maintenance can even transit from PM to condition-based maintenance (CBM) where further safety and costs benefit may be reaped. Whilst some guidance for such changes exists, it remains challenging for maintainers in practice as suggested methods often require significant component failure or test data; which are unavailable or too expensive to obtain. As such, this research reviews the challenges faced by maintainers when extending PM intervals or implementing CBM and seeks ways to support decision making for the changes. For PM, the challenge to extend the maintenance interval with little or no past failure is addressed. Existing reliability methods were reviewed and two improved methods to estimate the reliability lower confidence bounds were developed. The first approach adopts the use of Monte Carlo simulation applied to the Weibull plot equation while the second uses a probabilistic damage accumulation model together with bootstrap techniques. Both methods are used to assess the reliability of extending the replacement interval of a gearbox bearing and are shown to perform better than existing methods as they provide tighter reliability confidence bounds. For CBM, a survey on sensor technologies and diagnostic algorithms showed that vibration-based sensor is most widely used to detect fault. The study then demonstrates a CBM implementation using vibration-based HUMS data from in-service helicopters. Analysis of the FFT spectra shows that the fault patterns corresponding to progressing stages of bearing wear can be clearly observed. The fault patterns are extracted as features for unsupervised classification using Gaussian Mixture Models and used to infer the different bearing health states. Signal detection theory was then applied onto the classified feature to determine the detection thresholds for fault diagnosis. A simplistic prognostic model using trend extrapolation to determine the replacement lead-time is then performed and use for maintenance planning. In an effort to ease the implementation of CBM, ways to improve prognostics application is explored. The Switching Kalman Filter (SKF) was adapted for both diagnostic and prognostic under an autonomous framework that requires little user input. The SKF uses multiple dynamical models with each one describing a different stage of bearing wear. The most probable wear process is then inferred from the extracted feature data using Bayesian estimation. As different stages of bearing wear can be tracked using the dynamical behavior of the measurements, pre-established threshold for fault detection is no longer required for diagnostics. The SKF approach provides maintainers with more information for decision-making as a probabilistic measure of the wear processes are available. It also offers the opportunity to predict RUL more accurately by distinguishing between the wear stages and performing prediction only when rapid and unstable wear is detected. The SKF approach is demonstrated using in-service feature data from the AH64D TRGB and the results have shown the proposed methods to be a promising tool for maintenance decision-making. As an extension of research on methodologies to improve PM and CBM decision support, a thioether mist lubrication is explored for its feasibility as a backup lubrication system for helicopters. The aim is to reduce the mishap severity category which in turn eases the extension of PM interval or its replacement with a CBM task. An experimental setup was developed to test the thermal properties of a spur gearbox with thioether mist lubrication under various load and speed conditions and it was shown that only a very small volumetric flow of lubricant is required to preserve the gears from damage in oil starved environment. As such, a thioether based mist backup system can potentially reduce the risk of oil starvation failures significantly.

If mine waste materials are stored in dams, the dams are referred to as tailings dams. Tailings dam failures can lead to massive destruction in nearby areas because of the large amount of water and slurry tailings stored in the dams. Tailings dams are large constructions which therefore endure great stresses. If the stresses become higher than what the materials of the dam can tolerate there is a risk that the embankment will collapse. This master thesis is the result of a collaboration between Vattenfall, Elforsk, Uppsala University and Tsinghua University. The purpose has been to evaluate a design suggestion for a tailings dam located in Mexico, and this was done from a strain stress perspective which also included a seepage and displacement analysis. The results indicated that the maximum stresses that occurred in the dam were within the stability region for the fine tailings, but adjustments have to be made regarding the coarse tailings. These results also need to be supplemented with an additional earthquake simulation before a final evaluation can be made.

A conventional bicycle is a stable system given adequate forward velocity. However, the velocity region of stability is limited and depends on the geometric parameters of the bicycle. An autonomous bicycle is just not about maintaining the balance but also controlling where the bicycle is heading. Following paths has been accomplished with bicycles and motorcycles in simulation for a while. Car-like vehicles have followed paths in the real world but few bicycles or motorcycles have done so. The goal of this work is to follow a planned path using a physical bicycle without overcoming the dynamic limitations of the bicycle. Using an iterative design process, controllers for direction and position are developed and improved. Kinematic models are also compared in their ability to simulate the bicycle movement and how controllers in simulation translate to outdoors driving. The result shows that the bicycle can follow a turning path on a residential road without human interaction and that some simulation behaviours do not translate to the real world.

This thesis examines the transition of a vessel from the open ocean, where collisions are rare, to a high risk and heavy traffic area such as a Traffic Separation Scheme (TSS). Previous autonomy approaches generally view path planning and collision avoidance as two separate functions, i.e. a vessel will follow the planned path until conditions are met for collision avoidance algorithms to take over. Here an intermediate phase is proposed with the goal of adjusting the time of arrival to a high vessel density area so that the risk of collision is reduced. A general algorithm that calculates maximum future traffic density for all choices in the speed domain is proposed and implemented as a MOOS-IvP behavior. This behavior gives the vessel awareness of future collision risks and aids the collision avoidance process. This new approach improves the safety of the vessel by reducing the number of risky encounters that will likely require the vessel to maneuver for safety.

The midwifery model and the medical model constitute the two main bodies of knowledge and practice that characterize the way pregnancy and birth are viewed in the United States. The midwifery model emphasizes the normalcy of pregnancy and birth, while the medical model is characterized by a belief in the supremacy of technology over nature and in medical supervision and intervention during pregnancy and delivery. Although both models do espouse important information regarding pregnancy and birth and, at times, there is overlap in the practical application of the models, practitioners of the two models rarely interact with one another. The one situation where practitioners of these two models do come into contact is during home-to-hospital transports for planned home births. Through in-depth interviews with direct-entry midwives, mothers, obstetricians, and nurses, this dissertation explores what happens when practitioners of the two models are forced to interact during home-to-hospital transports in order to provide care for women and their babies. Building on Davis-Floyd's and Johnson and Davis-Floyd's work on home-to-hospital transport, interview data suggest that a series of professional and organizational level factors influence the interactions between obstetricians, direct-entry midwives, and nurses during transports. Findings indicate that care providers engage in emotion work as they navigate the disjuncture between home and hospital, managing their own feelings and the feelings of others during a home-to-hospital transport. Due to the lack of institutionalized protocols governing conduct during transports, practitioners of the two models of care are left to construct their own versions of protocols through micro-level interactions, which at particular times and among certain providers have the effect of transcending the boundaries that divide home and hospital. With the interaction that occurs during a home-to-hospital transport as the central focus, this dissertation provides insight into how the lack of integration between the more marginalized midwifery model and the dominant medical model of care in the U.S. affects care providers and laboring/birthing women during transport situations.

It is standard practice in radiation therapy to have two independent calculations for the number of monitor units used in patient treatment plans. The relationship between monitor units and absorbed dose to water is sophisticated for MLC-based IMRT. Verification measurements of absorbed dose to water with ionization chambers in MLC-based IMRT fields remains uncertain and the accuracy of computer modeling is limited by the physics assumptions used. In this thesis, point dose measurements from three cylindrical ionization chambers of different collecting volumes are evaluated against the CORVUS (NOMOS Corporation, Cranberry, PA) finite-size pencil beam algorithm and the PEREGRINE (NOMOS Corporation, Cranberry, PA) Monte Carlo calculation engine. After establishing the characteristics of the chambers and treatment planning system under various beam geometries, dynamic and step and shoot MLC deliveries were evaluated. Between detectors, the smallest volume chamber measured the greatest dose. Compared to measurements, CORVUS and PEREGRINE both underestimated the dose in IMRT fields by approximately 5%. On average PEREGRINE yielded better agreement than CORVUS by 2%.

In this thesis, the use of inhomogeneity corrections in intensity modulated radiotherapy (IMRT) inverse treatment planning is investigated. Firstly, the dosimetric consequences of CT beam hardening artifacts present on images used for treatment planning are estimated and found to be of little clinical significance (<1% dose difference). Secondly, experiments to evaluate the PEREGRINE Monte Carlo system (Nomos, Cranberry, PA) are undertaken for a 6 MV photon beam. The use of inhomogeneity corrections in clinical treatment planning is assessed for five clinical head and neck cancer cases. The cases are planned with the CORVUS optimization module and the dose distributions are then calculated with CORVUS and PEREGRINE in order to compare the two calculation techniques with emphasis on how each method handles tissue inhomogeneities. The plans are assessed in terms of dose, dose-volume distributions and the biological indices of TCP and NTCP. On average, PEREGRINE calculates a 1% lower mean dose to the GTV and a 2% lower mean dose to the CTV compared to the CORVUS calculations with EPL inhomogeneity corrections. In the last part of this work, quality assurance (QA) measurements are performed for a clinical case to investigate how the CORVUS and PEREGRINE calculations agree with the dose measurements on a QA phantom.

The research uses two methods; (1) a review of planning documents; and (2) interviews with planners. The results suggest that very little E-B-D research use has occurred in specific plans, although respondents were supportive of E-B-D research. Recommendations are made for improving research applications and for appropriate subjects for E-B-D research on planned communities.

Within the construction industry, proximity of actual to scheduled completion time is a primary performance measure, and deviations from planned schedules remain a popular concern in the field of construction management. Prevailing research assumes that delays arise either from flawed execution of the plan or from failure to plan effectively. Thus, solutions suggested include improving execution and developing ever more sophisticated planning techniques. In spite of these efforts, accuracy in scheduling construction projects has shown little or no improvement, and clients continue to incur the significant costs associated with the failure to more accurately plan. Eschewing this traditional techno-rational view, the current research turned to critical management studies for solutions and investigated planning intentionality, the intentional and unintentional roles planners play in project delays. Thus, it sought to explore the following with respect to the project planner role: optimism bias, where a planner unintentionally mitigates negative information in decision-making; strategic misrepresentation, where a planner intentionally mitigates negative information; and group dynamics in time estimation. The latter is relevant because a team rather than an individual typically embodies the planner function within a construction project. To perform this research, two mixed-methods studies, preceded by a pilot study, and seven interviews with project planners were conducted. The first mixed-methods study investigated how intended and unintended actions of participants affected underestimation of time during task performance; and the second investigated the creation of collective intentionality, the transmutation of individual preferences into a group consensus in time estimation. Results of the first mixed-methods study identified the key situational variables differentiating intended and unintended actions of planners and indicated how these can influence the quality of time estimation. Results of the second study showed that group performance in time estimation was inferior to that of individuals and that group member interaction appeared detrimental to good decision-making. Reasons found were sense of power, commitment, confidence level, cultural diversity, conflicts, and groupthink. The findings were compared and contrasted with those obtained from interviews with project planners to enhance the scope of the study.

This study is an action research project concerned with the effect of a change initiative on primary teachers' behaviour. It involves trying out a change approach and then refining and testing that approach in a consciously conducted change experiment. The study has two investigative strands. Both of these build on previous research into change that I conducted at a school in which I was working in 1986. The 1986 research described difficulties I had in conducting school self evaluation and the development of a revised approach to change. The product of the 1986 study was a change model. One strand of this study is an investigation into the effectiveness of that model in supporting teachers moving along the path to change. The second investigative strand of the study is concerned with the wider effect of implementing the change model on staff relationships in primary schools. The phrase 'changing the rules' in the title of the study harks back to an article by Helen Simons (1987) in which she suggests that activities such as self evaluation are 'against the rules of schools as institutions'. One element of this second strand of the study is an investigation into the rules governing staff relationships. It examines whether the closed behaviours that initially undermined the 1986 initiative are more widely prevalent in primary schools. The 1986 change initiative appeared to leave a residual effect of increased openness and collaboration between staff. A further element of this strand of the study is therefore an examination of whether implementing the change model affects staff relationships in other primary schools. The study examines the extent to which the change model acts to dismantle closed patterns of interaction between staff and replace them with more open ones. During the time that has elapsed between setting out and concluding this research there has been a growing focus on staff relationships in schools. Reviewing research into school culture Fullan (1991) suggests that "we have not yet made much head way in how to establish collaborative cultures in schools". This study is an investigation into a possible process by which the rules of schools I have known as a teacher, deputy headteacher and headteacher might be changed.

This study investigates academic dishonesty among undergraduate commerce students using the Theory of Planned Behaviour (TPB). A total of 579 respondents from three tertiary institutions in the Western Cape in South Africa completed an online survey about their attitudes, subjective norms, perceived behavioural control towards academic dishonesty, their intentions to engage in academic dishonesty behaviours and their previous academic dishonesty behaviour. Correlation analyses indicated significant, positive relationships between all of the antecedents of the TPB.

Lesbian families with children are greater in number and more visible today than ever before. In fact, social scientists have suggested that we may be in the midst of a lesbian "baby boom". Canada's Census figures support this assertion. Between 2001 and 2006 there was a forty-seven per cent increase in households made up of two lesbian mothers and their children. This dissertation addresses the legal issues raised by lesbian motherhood, focusing primarily on legal parentage. It considers the terms upon which parental recognition has been achieved thus far, and evaluates the efficacy of a reform agenda focused exclusively on gaining access to the existing legal framework. To explore the legal and social dynamics of planned lesbian families, interviews were conducted with forty-nine lesbian mothers living in British Columbia and Alberta who conceived using assisted reproduction. Mothers were asked about the structure of their families, how they defined terms such as "parent" and "family", the extent to which they had engaged with law, and their recommendations for law reform. The interviews revealed that lesbian mothers define family and parenthood broadly, emphasizing intention and caregiving over a purely biological model of kinship. All of the mothers defined a "parent" as someone who intends to parent and, once a child is born, performs that intention through caregiving. Parental status was thus not limited to those who shared a biological relationship with a child, or even to two individuals. The research suggests that lesbian mothers have little interest in being subsumed into the existing legal framework which tends to prioritize dyadic and biological parenting. In fact, only a tiny portion of the mothers felt that identical treatment would adequately respond to their needs. The vast majority supported law reform that would extend to them the benefits of the current system, while simultaneously expanding the existing framework to include a wider variety of parental and family configurations within it. The reform model chosen to achieve this aim combined parental presumptions in favour of the lesbian couple or a single lesbian mother, with opt-in mechanisms that allowed the family to extend beyond the two parent unit.

International marketing studies have extensively examined the antecedents of firms' marketing standardization/ adaptation decisions. However, it is unclear whether such decisions, once planned, codetermine the choice between buying and building foreign subsidiaries. Analyzing a sample of 150 foreign entries by Dutch firms, the authors find that the level of marketing adaptation planned for a wholly owned subsidiary is positively related to the likelihood that the subsidiary will be established through an acquisition rather than through a greenfield investment. Moreover, the authors find substantial evidence that this positive relationship is stronger for firms that (1) are establishing relatively larger subsidiaries, (2) have less experience with the industry entered, or (3) are entering less developed countries. The findings show that firms pursuing higher levels of marketing adaptation assign more value to the marketing adaptation advantages of acquisitions over greenfields, especially if the risks associated with implementing the planned adaptation level are high. In addition, firms typically strive for a fit between their international marketing strategy and their mode of foreign establishment. (authors' abstract)

In this thesis, the greenhouse gas emissions from the extraction of raw material to construction of planned buildings, roads and tramways in Uppsala are studied. The study is part of the work with Roadmap 2050 for a carbon dioxide neutral Uppsala until year 2050 that the Municipality is developing. The goal of the Municipality is to reduce the greenhouse gas emissions to less than 500 kg CO2-eqv per capita and year, compared to in 2011 just over 7 000 kg CO2-eqv per capita and year. The results of this study are compared to this goal. The study is based on two different possible scenarios of population growth in Uppsala until year 2030 and year 2050. The first one, the base scenario, implies that Stockholm remains the only big centre in the region. The second one, the high scenario, is a network region in which Uppsala has become an equally attractive city. This means that four scenarios have been considered; 2030 base, 2050 base, 2030 high and 2050 high. Another decisive parameter is the composition of material in the different constructions. To calculate the emissions certain LCA:s on roads and buildings, which apply to the situation in Uppsala, has been chosen. For tramways, an approximation had to be made since no LCA could be found. The result shows that the emissions from the extraction and production phase is more than ten times as big as the emissions from the construction phase of the process. For all scenarios, the emissions from roads are the highest ones in the extraction and production phase while the emissions from trams are the lowest ones. In the construction phase the emissions are highest from apartment buildings for all scenarios except 2050 high, where roads are highest. In the construction phase tramways have the lowest emissions in all scenarios. In total, the emissions of 2030 base is the lowest with 39 kg CO2 per capita and year and the scenario 2050 high is the highest with 120 kg CO2 per capita and year.

The British Fisheries Society, founded in 1786, was a semi-charitable joint stock company, similar to other improvement trusts of the period established to fund the construction of roads, bridges, canals and hospitals. The Society was however unique in the breadth of its ambition to create a chain of complete settlements or villages the length of the northern Scottish coastline from Dornoch on the east to Oban on the west. These new settlements were intended to be fishing stations focussed on the perceived wealth to be gained from the herring fishery. Four settlements were established at Ullapool, Wester Ross, Tobermory, Mull, Lochbay, Skye and Pulteneytown, Wick, Caithness and the specific intention of this thesis has been to examine those four built environments created by the Society. This includes all elements of the building and design process necessary to 'create' a fishing village incorporating town planning, civil engineering, industrial and vernacular buildings as well as 'architecture' by Robert Mylne and Telford. The construction of each village is followed from the design of the street plan, contracting for works through to the design and construction of diverse works such as inns, storehouses, harbours and bridges. Varying circumstance resulting in each settlement developing its own architectural character despite the Society's standardised plans and policies the settlements are also considered within the wider context of planned villages, New Towns ports, and harbours with specific analysis of individual buildings and types such as Robert Mylne's inn at Tobermory.
