Streszczenie:
My writing is simply a set of experiments in life—an endeavour to see what our thought and emotion may be capable of—what stores of motive, actual or hinted as possible, give promise of a better after which we may strive—what gains from past revelations and discipline we must strive to keep hold of as something more than shifting theory. I became more and more timid—with less daring to adopt any formula which does not get itself clothed for me in some human figure and individual experience, and perhaps that is a sign that if I help others to see at all it must be through the medium of art.George Eliot. In his inaugural lecture, given in Birkbeck College in 1987, Roger Scruton, who has done as much as anyone else in recent years to bring the importance of art in general and literature in particular to the attention of philosophers, contends that ‘philosophy severed from literary criticism is as monstrous a thing as literary criticism severed from philosophy’. The first, he argues, aims to be science: strives after theoretical truth which it can never attain; and results in banality clothed in pseudo-scientific technicalities: while the second is liable to find consolation in the kind of nonsense which pretends that in the study of literature we are confronted with nothing other than an author-less, unreadable, ‘text’. Philosophy, he maintains, ‘must return aesthetics to the place that Kant and Hegel made for it: a place at the centre of the subject, the paradigm of philosophy and the true test of all its claims’.

In history, philosophy, language, and literature have been a propelling force towards achieving a distinctive cul-ture in human civilization. We are therefore reminded that philosophy, language, and literature have a great deal of educational tenet, especially in the African world view. To foster holistic values in line with education, this study investigates that philosophy; language and literature have been in the transformation of armchair theoriza-tion of various disciplines into a pragmatic solution for our contemporary challenges. Using evaluative approach, this study opens up the fact that philosophy, language, and literature is not really a single filed of disciplines but rather a catchall for a number of problems whose scope and significance are so broad that they seem to have im-plication for virtually every other sphere of human endeavors.

Philosophy also holds a unique place in ancient Tamil literature. Thus, this study is carried out under the title of Yoga Philosophy in Tamil Literatures - Ancient Tamil Literature in Multiple Perspectives. Yoga is intended in a variety of senses. It is generally stated in most literatures that yoga is the union with the Lord. Some philosophers argue that separation from the world is yoga. However, the proper benefits of yoga, which are the common elements of yoga, such as Iyam, Niyama, Asana, Pranayama, Pratiyakaram, Dharana, Meditation, and Samadhi, can be obtained through proper practice of Avattanga Yogas. Thoughts on these are taken up more and more by the ancient Tamil literatures. Concepts of yoga can be found in many other ancient Tamil literatures such as Purananuru, Paripadal and Thirumurukaaruppadai. This review sets out to make that clear. The purpose of this study is to reveal the existence of ideas about the philosophy of yoga in the ancient Tamil literature in parallel with the Northern language literatures. Sources for this study include the primary texts such as Purananuru, Paripadal, Thirumurukaaruppadi, Tolkappiyam, Thirukkural, Indian Philosophical Repository - III, Hindu Philosophy, Sangam Literary Philosophy, 108 Upanishads, Indus Valley Civilization and Tamil, and Silappathikaram Kunrakkuravai.

Islamic philosophy, Sufism, Islamic jurisprudence and Javanese traditions have their views on women. Some regard women as subordinate to men, some groups position women as equal to men, and others accept women as male leaders. This study aims to analyse the views of Islamic philosophy, Sufism, Islamic jurisprudence and Javanese traditions on women. This study is a literature review using qualitative methods. The data source was taken from the literature using primary sources as the main reference. The results indicated that Islamic philosophy represented by al-Fârâbî (870-950) and Sufism by Ibn Arabi (1165-1240) placed women in an equal position with men. Nevertheless, Islamic jurisprudence studies tend to place women below men. Meanwhile, the Javanese tradition encapsulates both views. On the one hand, the Javanese tradition places women as an important part of men, but on the other hand, it places women as men's assets. However, the Javanese tradition can accept women's leadership over men. Regarding this, this study recommends that Islamic philosophy and Sufism's perspectives on women should be socialized more to strengthen a balanced view of the relationship between women and men.

This paper deals with the possible ways of understanding the relation between the reconstruction of history and literary fiction (postmemory and ectopic literature). The transmission of memory across generations – postmemory, and the composition of literary works out of the place of the origin – ectopic literature – facilitate the formation of historical discourse, which is inevitably accompanied by modern interpretation. As interpretation is understanding reality in a subjective manner, literary fiction takes its place in the reconstruction of historical events. And ectopic literature is one of the main narratives, which helps to understand the relation between facts and fantasy.

The article deals with the works of German science fiction writer Kurd Lasswitz (1848–1910). The article provides a brief description of the main themes and directions of the writer’s work. Lasswitz was the creator of the scientific tale genre (das wissenschaftliche Märchen), in which he had set the task of building new relationships between science and literature, nature and man, the animate particle and the cosmic whole. In accordance with the spirit of the fin de siècle era the scientific tale represented a new, post-positivist ideal of knowledge. The key theme of Lasswitz’s fiction was the search for extraterrestrial civilizations.Mars became for Lasswitz a place where the intelligent extraterrestrial beings have realized an ideal society in which ethics and technology are NOT in conflict. Lasswitz was not a neo-Kantian philosopher only, he was also an active popularizer of Kant’s philosophy. He was striving to create a Kantian utopia in literature. For Lasswitz Mars became the realization of this utopia. Also Lasswitz sought to give literary embodiment to the ideas of another philosopher, Gustav Theodor Fechner. Following his philosophy, Lasswitz develops environmental and existential issues of the coexistence of intelligent plants with humans. In Lasswitz’ story for children “The Escaped Flower” (1910), one can trace how in Lasswitz’ science fiction (scientific tale) the themes of the habitability of space (Mars), science and technology of the future interact with the ideas of Kant and Fechner.

This article examines the relation between philosophy and theatre in the work of French philosopher Alain Badiou. First, it focuses on Badiou's central categories, such as event and character, that resonate with the theatre. Second, Badiou's own engagement with the theatre, the place theatre occupies in his philosophical world, is identified. Finally, the article argues that Badiou's thought must be understood as a return to Plato. Plato here is understood not as an enemy of theatre, but as a philosopher who invented philosophy through a constant, if often critical, engagement with the theatre. Dramatic Platonism is the name proposed for this tradition of philosophy of which Alain Badiou is the most significant current representative.

This year marks the centenary of the birth of Iris Murdoch (1919–99). She has been celebrated as one of Britain's most important postwar writers with twenty-six prose fiction novels to her name. Murdoch was also an ancient philosopher who was primarily interested in issues of moral philosophy. Pinning down her place in the Anglo-American analytic tradition of philosophy, however, is not a straightforward task. On the one hand she cut a conventional figure, holding a tutorial fellowship at St Anne's College, Oxford, from 1948 to 1963. On the other hand, her philosophical writing increasingly departed from the coordinates of analytical philosophy. As Martha Nussbaum notes in her deeply ambivalent review of Murdoch's The Fire and the Sun: Why Plato Banished the Artists, Murdoch is ‘a novelist whose best work is deeply philosophical, a philosopher who has stressed…the special role that beauty can play in motivating us to know the good, …a Platonist believer in human perfectability, and an artist.’ Nussbaum points us towards understanding two key elements in Murdoch's thought: her commitment to Plato and the manner in which Murdoch's activity as philosopher and novelist should be considered as interdependent.

Streszczenie:
The dissertation presents a descriptive analysis of aspects of British fictional writing prefaced by a comparative analysis of cultural theory concerned with questions of place and socio-spatial relations-The general aim is to show how both the theory and the fiction negotiate elements of a relational poetics and politics of place in the context of negatively homogenizing tendencies in socioeconomic developments during the last thirty years of the twentieth century. In the first part, the writers of cultural theory are divided into three preliminary areas, covering primarily Marxist, post-structuralist and environmentalist approaches to questions of place and its relations. The second and third parts then provide more detailed consideration of novels by Raymond Williams and lain Sinclair which have so far not been accorded substantial critical attention. The aim is to show how their approaches in the novels considered converge with aspects of the theory discussed in the opening part of the dissertation. In all cases, the writers are presented as producing 'partial mappings'. These are seen as offering perspectives of sufficient scope to provide effective criticism of, and possible alternatives to, negative and disorientating aspects of social relations affected by tendencies in capital accumulation which might be seen as endangering elements of social justice and equality, cultural heterogeneity, and ecological viability. The first part includes consideration of the poet Charles Olson and a related aim is to suggest how novels such as those by Williams and Sinclair might provide a significant complement to both theory and modem epic poetry in relation to questions of place.

"Words in the World" details the ways that the place of rhetoric and literature in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries changes in response to the transition from natural philosophy to Cartesian mechanism. In so doing, it also offers a constructive challenge to today's environmental literary criticism, challenging environmental literary critics' preoccupation with themes of nature and, by extension, with representational language. Reading authors from Thomas More to Philip Sidney and Ben Jonson through changes in physics, cartography, botany, and zoology, "Words in the World" argues that literature occupies an increasingly separate place from the real world. "Place" in this context refers to spatiotemporal dimensions, taxonomic affiliations, and the relationships between literature and the physical world. George Puttenham's Arte of English Poesie (1589), for instance, limits the way that rhetoric is part of the world to the ways that it can be numbered (meter, rhyme scheme, and so forth); metaphor and other tropes, however, are duplicitous. In contrast, for an earlier era of natural philosophers, tropes were the grammar of the universe. "Words in the World" culminates with Robert Burton's Anatomy of Melancholy (1621/1651), in which the product of literature's split from the physical world is literary melancholy. Turning to today's environmental literary criticism, the dissertation thus historicizes ecocriticism's nostalgic melancholy for the extratextual physical world. Indeed, Early Modern authors' inquiries into the place of literature and the relationships between that place and the physical world in terms of literary forms and structures, suggests the importance of ecoformalism to Early Modern scholarship. In particular, this dissertation argues that Early Modern authors treat literary structures as types of performative language. This dissertation revises the standard histories of Early Modern developments in rhetoric and of the literary text, and it provides new insight into the materiality of literary form.

Streszczenie:
AbstractThe first purpose of this chapter is to examine dignity from a perspective of economic philosophy and theories of justice. Specifically, I will analyze the following three conceptual distinctions that have been controversial related to dignity (Sects. 3–5). They are (1) “price” versus “dignity;” (2) “individual dignity” versus “human dignity;” and (3) “equality of human rights” versus “respect for dignity.” The second and more important purpose of this chapter is to use the concept of dignity to illuminate certain conundrums that liberalism has left behind and to reexamine the reach and limits of liberalism. Thus, this paper explores theoretical possibilities of the concept of dignity based on relevant literature. Section 2 introduces the concept of dignity in John Rawls’ theory of justice. Section 6 reviews relevant literature on the attempts to critically develop the concept of dignity in Rawls’ theory of justice. “From my perspective, it is just that soul and spirit, with all their dignity and human scale, are now so complex and unique states of an organism…. And this is of course the difficult job, is it not: to move the spirit from its nowhere pedestal to a somewhere place, while preserving its dignity and importance, to recognize its humble origins and vulnerability, and yet still call upon its guidance (Damasio, 2005).”

This article focuses on Tolstoy’s attitude towards the European writers he reads. From what he says about them (in his Diary, notes, letters, prefaces), we can characterize his attitude towards the Western cultural tradition in terms of independence and appropriation, and understand what conception of literature and philosophy emerges from his criteria of appreciation. It seems that Tolstoy places himself as a judge and as a mediator, through whom western writers must arrive to Russian readers, and that sincerity appears to be the most significant criterium in his conception.

Streszczenie:
The human body, as the source for the project but also its addressee (that is, as the place of departure and arrival), has been understood in a variety of ways. Following one possible line of thought, the body has been – and continues to be – a metric, geometric-mathematical, anatomical, physiological, biomechanical, bionic, psychic, sensory and social place. Products have clear links to the human body: they are designed for its use and enjoyment, they complement or complete it, they help create ties with the physical world, they aid its social and cultural participation, and they join the body in its sphere of action. In this article, we will revise visions of the body in Design Theory and Criticism literature, but also using literature in Philosophy, Anthropology and Sociology of the Body, that is, literature relating to cultural and social considerations of the body that are less often considered in the practice of Product Design and which we believe to be essential. We intend, then, to present and discuss a multiple (malleable) model of the body to be useful for product designers.

The aim of this paper is to analyze the mode of communication and exchange information of students of the Faculty of Philosophy, University of Novi Sad on the social network Facebook. Exchange of information among students at the social networking takes place in two distinct groups: Student Alliance of the Faculty of Philosophy and the Faculty of Philosophy Novi Sad. Groups are formed by students who are also administrators of the same. In the paper we will present the subjects of the discussion (registration exam, purchase literature, entrance exams, exams, problems faced in college, job advertisements, scholarships, international cooperation and exchange of students, experience, important events, parties, promotions, etc.), mode of communication (formal and informal speech), as well as time of day when students are most active on the network. The intention of the authors is to point out the fact that the daily number of users and the topics are increasing. According to research from 2009. (based on data that users have left on their profiles) the largest number of users in Serbia is between 18 and 34 years (61%).Based on preliminary results of this research, conclusion is that Facebook is much more used by the student population for the exchange of information related to studying, instead of forums and the official site of the Faculty. Social networks attract a large number of young people, so it is necessary for teachers to support the development of new technologies which can help in learning, even at the highest level of education. Also, it was concluded that students of the Faculty of Philosophy, University of Novi Sad, social networking site Facebook encourages in a variety of discussion, voting, leaving comments, giving feedback and sharing among stakeholders.

TQM is a management philosophy where every individual working in an ideal environment towards a common goal, continuously improving the processes and in turn improving the quality of product or process. An important factor for the success of an organization in implementing TQM is its ability to translate, integrate, and ultimately implement TQM behaviors into everyday practice on the job. This study was initially conducted by investigating the quality affecting factors (attributes) from different pieces of literature on quality performances and understanding the concept of total quality management. The questions in this questionnaire are distributed among the different phases that take place during the construction. Factor analysis involved identifying a total of 55 attributes that belonged to the different phases of construction, these factors were then distributed into critical success and failure attributes based on data analysis. These critical attributes affect the Quality performance in the construction of the STP project.

Streszczenie:
The philosophy of Zen Buddhism occupies a very important place in V. Pelevin’s prose. The novel «Chapaev and Void» is a Zen novel that tells the story of the enlightenment process of Peter the Void. Chapaev plays the role of a Zen master, imitating or creating koans to inspire Peter the Void. The original meaning of the word “koan” is a judicial document of the ancient Chinese government. Later, the term “koan” was borrowed from Zen Buddhism, and its content is usually a story about a Zen master, a dialogue between the master and his students, questions and hints from the master. The story of “Anagama Buddha” and the “clay machine gun” is the last koan of the novel. At the same time, Chapaev is the reincarnation of Anagama Buddha, whose pinky is a clay machine gun with the power to turn everything into nothingness. The article discusses the sources of the concepts of “Buddha Anagama” and “clay machine gun” and the role of the koan, composed of these concepts, in the implementation of the ideas of Zen Buddhism in the novel. There is no ideal prototype of Anagama; the clay machine gun is the sarira of Buddha Anagama, which is the result of Buddhist practice. The koan «Buddha Anagama and the Clay Machine Gun» was not only narrated, but also realized by Chapaev, which confirms Pelevin’s appeal to Zen Buddhism at different levels of the novel’s structure organization.

Over a period of time, Nietzsche's ideas regained popularity and brought back to the fore the topicality they had never lost. Speaking of F. Nietzsche and his ideas, we cannot fail to mention the concepts of revaluation, superman, Christianity and God. The other characteristic of F. Nietzsche is his aphoristic and metaphorical style, which is sometimes condemned and denied, sometimes supported and welcomed. Nietzsche's aspiration is to go beyond the masses, to search for the new and different in the projection of modern man - as a reappraisal of values and a search for new values. The other goal of the study is to show the similarities and differences of Nietzsche's thought with "dissenting" philosophers. There is a huge amount of literature on the subject, but for the present study, the works of F. Nietzsche will be used in the first place.

The paper deals with the exile view of Czech literary criticism in the past decades, reflected in two essays: one by Igor Hajek, and the other one by Kvetoslav Chvatik. Igor Hajek (19311995), a Czech literary critic, who went to exile in 1969, played a significant role in presenting Czech literature abroad. Kvetoslav Chvatik (19302012) was a Czech philosopher, aesthetician, art historian, and literary theorist. Hajek taught at universities in the English-speaking world, while Chvatik worked in a German-speaking environment. Two periods are covered and compared in the paper: the first period, the period of pluralistic democracy and the resulting cultural structure when the literary criticism contributed to the fact that Czech literature reached the European level, and the period after February 1948 when the ruling ideology started to interfere in the development of literature. Two completely contradictory conceptions are described showing the radical changes that took place in literary criticism after 1948. The text looks at the role of literary criticism in an era when plurality of opinion is possible, and at the impact of the suppression of freedom of speech on the work of literary critics. It also shows how the process of the shift of literary criticism towards its true function in the spirit of democratising tendencies had gradually won its way.

The article deals with the technology of visualizing fictional text (poetry) with the help of emoji symbols in the Emoji Maker platform that not only activates students’ thinking, but also develops creative attention, makes it possible to reproduce the meaning of poetry in a succinct way. The application of this technology has yielded the significance of introducing a computer being emoji in the study and mastering of literature is absolutely logical: an emoji, phenomenologically, logically and eidologically installed in the digital continuum, is separated from the natural language provided by (ethno)logy, and is implicitly embedded into (cosmo)logy. The technology application object is the text of the twentieth century Cuban poet José Ángel Buesa. The choice of poetry was dictated by the appeal to the most important function of emoji – the expression of feelings, emotions, and mood. It has been discovered that sensuality can reconstructed with the help of this type of meta-linguistic digital continuum. It is noted that during the emoji design in the Emoji Maker program, due to the technical limitations of the platform, it is possible to phenomenologize one’s own essential-empirical reconstruction of the lyrical image. Creating the image of the lyrical protagonist sign, it was sensible to apply knowledge in linguistics, philosophy of language, psychology, psycholinguistics, literary criticism. By constructing the sign, a special emphasis was placed on the facial emogram, which also plays an essential role in the transmission of a wide range of emotions, moods, feelings of the lyrical protagonist. Consequently, the Emoji Maker digital platform allowed to create a new model of digital presentation of fiction, especially considering the psychophysiological characteristics of the lyrical protagonist. Thus, the interpreting reader, using a specific digital toolkit – a visual iconic sign (smile) – reproduces the polylaterial metalinguistic multimodality of the sign meaning in fiction. The effectiveness of this approach is verified by the poly-functional emoji ousia, tested on texts of fiction.

Over the last few decades, in-place recycling of asphalt pavements has seen increased use by the highway industry, primarily to take a dvantage of potential cost and logistical savings compared to conventional reconstruction. More recently, the U.S. Navy and Federal Aviation Administration have allowed recycling to be used on airfields with lighter traffic. This report contains a discussion of in-place recycling design considerations obtained from a literature review of its use in the highway industry. Observations developed from a review of airfield pavement projects that have utilized recycling is also included. A structural analysis was performed using the Pavement-Transportation Computer Assisted Structural Engineering (PCASE) tool to determine typical stiffness values that recycled layers must achieve to support various types of military aircraft traffic for different pavement structures. Overall, in-place recycling is recommended for consideration as a rehabilitati on technique for military airfield pavements, and further investigation is recommended before it is implemented it into design guidance.

Creativity is one of the important concepts of the theory of journalism. The author does not agree with the extended definition of creativity. He believes that journalistic activity becomes creativity when it is free and associated with the creation and establishment of new national and universal values, with the highest intensity of intellectual and moral strength of the journalist, when journalism is a manifestation of civic position, when this activity combines professional skills and perfect literary form. The author also believes that literary skill and the skill of a journalist are not identical concepts, because literary skill is a component of journalistic skill.

Streszczenie:
Background: Enterocutaneous fistula is an aberrant epithelialized communication between the bowel and the skin occurring mostly as a complication of abdominal surgery. Enterocutaneous fistula may present as chronically discharging sinus and like any other chronic non healing wound, malignant transformation has rarely been reported in such gastrointestinal fistula. Herein we report an additional case of malignant transformation of enterocutaneous fistula leading to duodenal mass. Case Presentation: A 50-year diabetic gentleman presented with a persistent draining sinus from his surgical site of right nephrectomy for 6 months with friable growth over the sinus opening which sheds off spontaneously to reappear again after a period. Investigations showed duodenal growth communicating to the right renal fossa and further to the skin surface in the lumbar region. Exploratory laparotomy was performed where a circumferential mass was noted in the second part of duodenum with perforation in the posterior wall. The perforation was seen to communicate with skin via fistulous tract. Postoperative biopsy of duodenal mass confirmed it to be well differentiated squamous cell carcinoma with transmural infiltration. Conclusion: When perirenal or retroperitoneal inflammation takes place, second part of the duodenum becomes involved and the absence of a protective peritoneal barrier between the two, along with the relative immobility of the duodenum, accounts for the internal drainage and fistula formation which occurs. Persistent enterocutaneous fistula after nephrectomy causes long standing pus discharge and malnourishment affecting the overall health of these patients. Chronic inflammation is known to be a risk factor for development of squamous cell carcinoma. Two previous cases of malignant transformation of post nephrectomy colocutaneous fistula have been reported. However, this case is unique as no prior reporting of malignant transformation of duodeno-cutaneous fistula was found in literature.

This document provides a short literature review on the complementarity (and antagonisms) between liability rules, safety regulation and insurance and their effect on safety management. It draws on a range of disciplines, with a focus on economic analysis of law and regulation theory. Some of the issues discussed are rather complex; this document attempts to provide simple explanations together with references to the professional literature for the interested reader. Some issues are the subject of ongoing debate between scholars; in such situations, we have attempted to present the various points of view. The document provides background information concerning the topics discussed during the NeTWork’2012 workshop, and draws on some of the contributions of workshop participants and the rich discussion which took place during the three days. The first chapter presents issues related to regulation, starting with the classical economic justifications for state intervention (presence of externalities, information failures and moral hazard). A number of obstacles to the effectiveness of safety regulation are presented. Finally, some alternatives or complements to regulation, including self-regulation, are briefly discussed. Chapter 2 presents an overview of liability law, starting with some introductory definitions. Factors which weaken the effectiveness of liability as an incentive to invest in prevention are discussed, as are negative effects of liability regimes on safety management. A number of case studies illustrating the liability of regulators are briefly presented. Chapter 3 discusses the impact of insurance and reinsurance on firms’ and individuals’ safety management. The last chapter briefly analyzes firms’ and individuals’ sources of motivation to take care.

Streszczenie:
As a result of the refugee reception crisis in 2015 the advocacy for increasing resettlement numbers in the overall refugee protection framework has gained momentum, as has research on resettlement to the EU. While the UNHCR purports resettlement as a durable solution for the international protection of refugees, resettlement programmes to the European Union are seen as a pillar of the external dimension of the EU’s asylum and migration policies and management. This paper presents and discusses the literature regarding the value transmissions taking place within these programmes. It reviews literature on the European resettlement process – ranging from the selection of refugees to be resettled, the information and training they receive prior to travelling to their new country of residence, their reception upon arrival, their placement and dispersal in the receiving state, as well as programs of private and community sponsorship. The literature shows that even if resettlement can be considered an external dimension of European migration policy, this process does not end at the border. Rather, resettlement entails particular forms of reception, placement and dispersal as well as integration practices that refugees are confronted with once they arrive in their resettlement country. These practices should thus be understood in the context of the resettlement regime as a whole. In this paper we map out where and how values (here understood as ideas about how something should be) and norms (expectations or rules that are socially enforced) are transmitted within this regime. ‘Value transmission’ is here understood in a broad sense, taking into account the values that are directly transmitted through information and education programmes, as well as those informing practices and actors’ decisions. Identifying how norms and values figure in the resettlement regime aid us in further understanding decision making processes, policy making, and the on-the-ground work of practitioners that influence refugees’ lives. An important finding in this literature review is that vulnerability is a central notion in international refugee protection, and even more so in resettlement. Ideas and practices regarding vulnerability are, throughout the resettlement regime, in continuous tension with those of security, integration, and of refugees’ own agency. The literature review and our discussion serve as a point of departure for developing further investigations into the external dimension of value transmission, which in turn can add insights into the role of norms and values in the making and un-making of (external) boundaries/borders.
