(PhP)5 and lithium dialkylamides in tetrahydrofuran form equilibrium mixtures of lithium aminophenylphosphides (PhP)nNR- with n = 3 and (mainly) 2. The monophosphides (n = 1) are not formed; it is concluded that they are generally unstable, decomposing to aminodiphosphides and cyclophosphines. Alkylation of an equilibrium mixture gives 1-alkyl-2-dialkylamino-diphenyl- diphosphines which, however, are thermally unstable. (PhP)5 degradation equilibria using differ­ent anionic nucleophiles are compared.

Starting from [Ru(pyO)2(nbd)] 1 and a N,P,N-tridentate ligand (2a: PhP(pic)2, 2b: PhP(pyO)2) (nbd = 2,5-norbornadiene, pic = 2-picolyl = 2-pyridylmethyl, pyO = 2-pyridyloxy = pyridine-2-olate), the compounds [PhP(μ-pic)2(μ-pyO)Ru(κ2-pyO)] (3a) and [PhP(μ-pyO)3Ru(κ2-pyO)] (3b), respectively, were prepared. Reaction of compounds 3 with CO and CNtBu afforded the opening of the Ru(κ2-pyO) chelate motif with the formation of compounds [PhP(μ-pic)2(μ-pyO)Ru(κ-O-pyO)(CO)] (4a), [PhP(μ-pic)2(μ-pyO)2Ru(CNtBu)] (5a), [PhP(μ-pyO)4Ru(CO)] (4b) and [PhP(μ-pyO)4Ru(CNtBu)] (5b). In dichloromethane solution, 4a underwent a reaction with the solvent, i.e., substitution of the dangling pyO ligand by chloride with the formation of [PhP(μ-pic)2(μ-pyO)Ru(Cl)(CO)] (6a). The new complexes 3a, 4a, 5a, 5b and 6a were characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction analyses and multi-nuclear (1H, 13C, 31P) NMR spectroscopy. The different coordination behaviors of related pairs of molecules (i.e., pairs of 3, 4 and 5), which depend on the nature of the P–Ru-bridging ligand moieties (μ-pic vs. μ-pyO), were also studied via computational analyses using QTAIM (quantum theory of atoms in molecules) and NBO (natural bond orbital) approaches, as well as the NCI (non-covalent interactions descriptor) for weak intramolecular interactions.

Interleukin-2 (IL-2), a cytokine that induces natural killer cells termed lymphokine-activated killer (LAK) cells, is in use as an anticancer agent. During IL-2 therapy, adverse effects, such as vasodilatation and hypotension, are common. Previous studies suggest that these effects are due to nitric oxide (NO). Therefore a model of IL-2-induced hyperdynamic response in sheep was developed to test the effect of pyridoxalated haemoglobin polyoxyethylene conjugate (PHP; a NO scavenger), which is currently in clinical development for the treatment of shock associated with systemic inflammatory response syndrome. Twelve female sheep were divided into four groups (n=3 per group): sham control (Ringer's lactate solution), PHP alone (20 mg·kg-1·h-1 for 96 h), IL-2 alone (recombinant human IL-2; 1440000 units/kg intravenously every 8 h) and a combination of PHP and IL-2. All of the sheep received Ringer's lactate solution to maintain haematocrit at baseline levels. The sheep had free access to food and water. A fall in the mean arterial pressure and systemic vascular resistance index by 20% was observed in the IL-2 group, but not in the PHP+IL-2 group. The fluid requirement to maintain the haematocrit was higher in the IL-2 group (5 ml·kg-1·h-1) than in the PHP+IL-2 group (4 ml·kg-1·h-1). The sham group showed no changes in any of the parameters. Scavenging NO by PHP prevented the hyperdynamic reaction induced by IL-2 administration in sheep. This activity of PHP may prevent the early discontinuation of IL-2 therapy that results because of these adverse events.

Objective: Phimosis is define as unretractable prepuce and has two different clinical presentation; pathological (PaP) and physiological. Physiological phimosis (PhP) is a common condition in children that does not require treatment. In our study, we aimed to determine the actual requirement for circumcision in patients with phimosis who were recommended circumcision. Material and Methods: Children who were offered circumcision due to phimosis between July 2019 and January 2020 and applied to the pediatric surgery and pediatric urology outpatient clinic were included in the study. They were evaluated in terms of referring physicians, genital examination findings and requirement for circumcision. Results: Between the study dates, 199 patients applied for circumcision due to phimosis. 126 patients are under one year old, 73 patients are over one year old. PhP was present in 194 of the patients and PaP in 5 of them. While PaP is not detected in patients under one year of age, there are 5 patients with PaP over one year of age (2%). There was no requirement for urgent circumcision in any of the patients. Genital examination revealed incidentally undescended testicle in 3 patients and hydrocele in 12 children. Conclusion: Male genital system examination and pathological findings are not well known by physicians. We think that there is a need for detailed training for physicians regarding PhP and childhood testicle pathologies.

AbstractChemosaturation (CS; CHEMOSAT®, Delcath Systems Inc.) temporarily administers melphalan into the liver by percutaneous hepatic perfusion (PHP). CS-PHP can effectively control growth in liver tumors, but efficacy and tolerability of sequential treatments are unclear. We analyzed outcomes of sequential CS-PHP treatment. Patients with either unresectable intrahepatic metastases of ocular melanoma (OM, n = 9), cholangiocarcinoma (CCA, n = 3), or hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC, n = 1) were recruited retrospectively. Response was assessed by tomography imaging. Ten patients (mean age 60 years) with more than one CS-PHP treatment were included. CS-PHP was administered 2–6 times in the OM patients, 3 times in the CCA, and the HCC patient received 6 treatments. Overall response rate (ORR) to CS-PHP was 80%, and stable disease was achieved in one patient. Median hepatic progression-free survival (hPFS) was 336 days (range 0–354) for OM, 251 days for the CCA patient, and 256 days for the HCC patient. At the end of observation (153–701 days after first CS-PHP), 6/10 patients were still alive (5/9 with OM, 0 with CCA, and 1 with HCC). Death cases were not related to CS-PHP. Adverse events were mostly hematologic, grade I-IV, and self-resolving. The liver function was not deteriorated by CS-PHP. We conclude that repeated CS-PHP treatments were effective and well tolerated in the long term.

We investigated the effects of modified hemoglobin on regional blood flow and function of different organs during hyperdynamic sepsis. Fourteen sheep were surgically prepared for the study. After a 5-day recovery period, a continuous infusion of live Pseudomonas aeruginosa bacteria was begun and maintained for 48 h. At 24 h, after a hyperdynamic circulation had developed, the animals were randomly assigned to two groups: 1) a treatment group ( n = 7) that received an infusion with 100 mg/kg pyridoxalated hemoglobin polyoxyethylene conjugate (PHP) over 30 min and 2) a control group ( n = 7) that received only the vehicle. PHP infusion increased mean arterial pressure from 86 ± 2.8 to 101.8 ± 3.5 mmHg ( P < 0.05) and systemic vascular resistance index from 769 ± 42.1 to 1,087 ± 56.8 dyn ⋅ s ⋅ m2⋅ cm−5( P < 0.05). PHP infusion did not decrease regional blood flow, measured with fluorescent microspheres, below the baseline values in any of the analyzed tissues. None of the investigated blood chemistry variables showed any changes indicative of impaired organ function after PHP infusion. In our model of ovine sepsis we found no side effects after PHP infusion that would limit the use of PHP as a nitric oxide scavenger in sepsis.

The first part describes the objectives of the project. The theoretical part provides the necessary foundation for the implementation and, in addition to the theoretical background of information systems as a whole it presents and describes the technologies used for the execution of the implementation. The needs and requirements for future expansion are determined based on the analysis of the current situation. The practical part introduces a proposed solution, the method and procedure of implementation. In the final part, the author gives an assessment of the practical and economic benefits of the project.

AbstractPart I provides an overview of the development of the field of salutogenesis, as background for the remaining chapters in The Handbook of Salutogenesis. Chapter 2 by Bengt Lindström reviews mileposts in the development of the field from the late 1990s until today. Chapter 3 by Maurice Mittelmark and Georg Bauer is a revision and expansion of a chapter in the 2017 Edition, meant to convey some of the main ways the term ‘salutogenesis’ is used today. Chapter 4 is of particular importance in this Handbook. Written by Aaron Antonovsky’s son Avishai Antonovsky, and by one of his closest colleagues and former PhD student, Shifra Sagy; this revised chapter from the 2017 Edition provides the first biography of the founding father of salutogenesis. Chapter 5, also from the 2017 Edition, is a summary of Antonovsky’s development of the Salutogenic Model of Health. The editors are convinced it is among the best synopses available. Chapter 6 by Georg Bauer provides the reader with a description of Salutogenesis meeting places. The reader wanting to connect more directly to a global salutogenesis network will find this chapter to be of great practical value. Finally, Chap. 7 by Lenneke Vaandrager of The Netherlands and colleagues from Spain, Germany, Italy, Norway, the United Kingdom and Poland trace the development of higher education in salutogenesis in Europe, spanning 30 years.

Abstract Although initial studies suggested that Pneumocystis carinii was a protowan parasite, recent phylogenetic analyses of ribosomal RNA indicate that P. carinii is more appropriately classified as a fungus. Because P. carinii cannot be cultivated in vitro, it is difficult to study. Testing of P. carinii for susceptibility to antimicrobial agents has been performed in animal models. There are three stages in the life cycle of P. carinii: cysts (5 to 8 µm in diameter and crescent shaped), sporozoites (found only within cysts), and trophozoites (2 to 5 µmin diameter and found outside the cyst). At each of these three stages, the organism has different staining properties. According to seroprevalence studies, most people in the United States have acquired infection with P. carinii by age 2 to 3 years. Clinical disease probably results from reactivation of latent infection in immunocompromised hosts. Therefore, prevention is based on chemoprophylaxis of susceptible individuals. In 1994, P. carinii pneumonia (PCP) remained the most common AIDS-defining diagnosis (other than a diagnosis of AIDS based on CD4 cell count). Among high-risk patients who do not receive PCP prophylaxis, 60 to 80 percent will develop PCP. The risk of developing PCP increases as a patient’s CD4 cell count declines below 200 cells/mm3 Despite the widespread use of PCP prophylaxis, there were more than 13,000 cases of PCP in 1995. Although earlier reports showed poor outcomes in those patients with severe PCP, recent survival rates have improved. Even patients in respiratory failure (as defined by PaO2 less than 60 on an FiO2 greater than 40 percent) have a 30 to 50 percent episode survival rate; of those who survive hospitalization, the median survival is approximately 18 months.

P2P networks have characteristics of decentralization, autonomy, and dynamicity. The security problems caused by these characteristics have seriously affected further development of P2P networks. The authors did research on CL-PKC key management schemes. (1) They propose a certificateless-based key distribution scheme with multiple trusted centers that fits the characteristics of P2P networks, and analyzed its security. (2) They also propose an improved interactive key agreement protocol across multiple domains, and then compare it with some existing key agreement protocol from aspects of security and computational efficiency. (3) The authors have implemented the proposed key management schemes, then verified their correctness and tested their computational efficiency. Combined with master key share management and key management of nodes, this system constructed a complete certificateless-based key management model, which is an exploration to solve security problems in P2P networks.

In WSN transport, layer protocol plays a significant role in maintaining the node’s energy budget. To find out the dependency of Transport layer on MAC/PHY layer, the authors have extensively tested various transport protocols using IEEE 802.11, IEEE 802.15.4 MAC/PHY protocols for WSN. For IEEE802.11 and IEEE802.15.4 with RTS/CTS ON the TCP variants has shown >80% packet delivery ratio and 5-20% packet loss, while for UDP it is around >63% and 19.54-35.18% respectively. On average 1-3% additional energy is consumed for packet retransmissions in IEEE 802.11 with RTS/CTS OFF whereas significant energy efficiency is observed in IEEE802.15.4 case. For IEEE 802.11 with RTS/CTS ON high throughput, low packet drop rate and increased E-2-E delay is observed, while for IEEE 802.15.4 improved power efficiency and jitter behavior is observed. This has led the foundation for the future development of the cross-layered energy efficient transport protocol for WSN.

This essay analyses how Euripides reused the epic pattern of the so-called τις-Rede or tis-speech, used by Homer sometimes to make a character speculate about what someone might say, other times to give a single and anonymous example of a crowd’s opinion. Euripides uses both the traditional epic models in his tragedies: potential τις-Reden (Alc. 954-61, 995-1005; Her. 26-30, 515-9; Pho. 578-83; fr. 708 K.) and actual τις-Reden (Andr. 1104-6; Hel. 1589-91; HF 950-2). The quoted passages are all studied, together with some other passages mentioned for comparison purposes (Ba. 204-5; Hec. 313-6; HF 1286-90; IT 1358-61; Or. 1416-24; Suppl. 314-6, 343-6).

Familial hypocalciuric hypercalcaemia (FHH) is a generally asymptomatic form of mild to moderate, parathyroid hormone (PTH)-dependent hypercalcaemia, which was initially confused with the more common hypercalcaemic disorder, primary hyperparathyroidism (PHPT) (1–3). Subsequent studies showed that FHH differs from PHPT in several important respects, although distinguishing between these two conditions can still be difficult on a clinical basis alone (4). Urinary calcium excretion is lower in the former than in the latter, and in FHH, unlike PHPT, hypercalcaemia recurs rapidly following surgical treatment with anything less than total parathyroidectomy. Indeed, given FHH’s generally benign natural history, surgery is usually ill advised (3). The phenotype of FHH implicated some abnormality in the sensing and/or handling of calcium by parathyroid and kidney (3, 5). For more than two decades after its initial description, however, the genetic defect in FHH was unknown. In 1992, the major genetic locus for this condition was identified on the long arm of chromosome 3 (6). The following year saw the cloning of a G protein-coupled extracellular calcium (Ca2+ o)-sensing receptor (CaSR) mediating direct regulation of PTH secretion by Ca2+ o (7). The CaSR’s function and its location of its gene on the same region chromosome 3 in humans made it an obvious candidate gene for FHH. Shortly thereafter, heterozygous inactivating mutations in the CaSR were identified in several FHH families (8). Moreover, patients with a related condition, neonatal severe hyperparathyroidism (NSHPT), also turned out to harbour inactivating CaSR mutations in the homozygous, compound heterozygous, and in a milder disorder, neonatal hyperparathyroidism (NHPT), in the heterozygous state (8). This chapter reviews the clinical and biochemical features of FHH, its genetics, pathophysiology, and pathogenesis, and its relationship to NSHPT.

Nerve transfers (NT) consist in sectioning a donor nerve and connecting it to the distal stump of a recipient unrepairable nerve. For elbow flexion restoration in brachial plexus palsy (BPP) we used different NT: 1) GF motor Ulnar Nerve to Biceps nerve (Oberlin technique), 2) Double fascicular median/ulnar to biceps/brachialis nerve transfer (Mackinnon), 3) InterCostal Nerves (ICN) to MCN (+/− nerve graft), 4) Medial Pectoral Nerve (MPN) to MCN, 5) ThoracoDorsal Nerve (TDN) to MCN, 6) Spinal Accessory Nerve (SAN) to MCN transfer, 7) Phrenic Nerve (PhN) to MCN, 8) Cervical Plexus C3-C4 to MCN and 9) Contralateral C7 (CC7). I want to present my personal experience using the phrenic nerve (PhN), the intercostal nerves (ICN) and Oberlin’s technique. The aim of this retrospective study is to evaluate the results of this procedure in BPP. NT is an important goal in BPP. ICN transfer into the nerve of biceps for elbow flexion recovery is a reliable procedure in BPP. ICN transfer for triceps offers a positive alternative (Carroll transposition). Oberlin technique is simple and offers better results in a shorter amount of time and is an effective and safe option.

The heat transfer capacity of a PHP is tremendously high and is finding many applications such as in electronic cooling. In order to maximize its heat transfer potential, the working parameters of a PHP have to be set to the right values. The present work deals with the optimization study of a part-unit-cell model of a Pulsating Heat Pipe (PHP) comprising of a single meniscus oscillating between evaporator and adiabatic sections. The parameters considered for this study are the effective length of the evaporator section, the evaporator temperature and the fluid fill ratio. All the numerical studies on PHP till date make the approximation of incompressibility of working fluid. However, recent experimental studies by M.Rao et al. [1] have shown the importance of compressibility effects on the working of a PHP. The present work involves a compressible phase change heat transfer model, based on the Volume-of-Fluid solver. The compressible model is incorporated into open source CFD solver OpenFOAM. This solver is validated in stages by Ghanta and Pattamatta [2] and the part-unit cell of the PHP is validated against the existing experimental results of M. Rao et al [1] and contrast is made with an incompressible solver, to emphasise the importance of considering the compressibility effects. Following validation of the compressible phase change solver, a parametric study explaining the effects of the above mentioned parameters on the objective functions and working of the PHP is performed, which forms the basis for the optimization presented in this work. Accordingly, the ratio of evaporator to the adiabatic length (Le/La) is varied between 2 and 10, the evaporator superheat between 5 and 20 and the fluid filling ratio is varied between 35–80 %. A multi-objective optimization problem is set-up taking the maximum vapour pressure attained and working time (the time for which the working fluid is in contact with the part unit cell of the PHP) as the objective functions. Models are created using two different methods — Kriging and Response Surface Approximation (RSA). The models are optimized using multi-objective Genetic Algorithm, coded in MATLAB. Both the models used predicted the same optimum values, with a variation of 0.01%. The optimum values point at a fluid fill ratio of 79.5%, evaporator excess temperature of 7.89 and an evaporator section of length seven times that of the adiabatic section. The same is also validated with results of numerical simulation at the optimal point. In majority of the works presented so far, the maximum vapour pressure alone is taken as a benchmark for the performance of the PHP. To elucidate the importance of considering working time as an objective function, a single objective optimization study was also performed, with only the maximum pressure as the objective function. The results of single objective optimization showed a deviated optimal point, with similar optimal pressure value as that of multi-objective optimization, but working time reduced by half. Hence by not considering the working time of PHP as an objective function, the optimal point generated results in only half the maximum heat transfer that can otherwise be attained with different parameters.

The closed loop pulsating heat pipe (CLPHP) is a passive two-phase heat transfer device, patented by Akachi (1990). Due to its excellent features, PHP has been considered as one of the promising technologies for electronic cooling, heat exchanger, etc. This paper presents an experimental study shows the effect of inclination angle on the thermal performance of CLPHP, which consist of 10 turns of copper tubes having inner and outer diameter 2 mm and 3.6 mm respectively. The equal lengths of evaporator, condenser and adiabatic sections are 50 mm each. Different working fluids are used as R-134a, Methanol and Water. For all experimentations, an optimum filling ratio was maintained 50% by volume. The thermal performance have been investigated with different inclination angles (viz. 0°, 20°, 40°, 60° and 90°) at various heat input from 5 to 50W in the steps of 5W. The thermal resistance (which is inversely proportional to thermal performance) of CLPHP at various heat input are plotted for different working fluids. The result shows that, the thermal resistance decreases as heat input increases. But at low heat input i.e. upto 25W, the thermal resistance decreases rapidly and the PHP performance is more sensitive to the inclination angle whereas high heat input i.e. above 25W, the thermal resistance decreases smoothly and less independent to the inclination angle. In all inclination angles, vertical bottom heat position (at 90°) of CLPHP gives best thermal performance due to presence of gravity force. At all inclination angles, the working fluid R-134a show best thermal performance followed by methanol and water.

This paper describes results obtained by experiments on using Moodle for teaching Science and Information Technology. Modern graphical and dedicated languages are used to create content and embed the artifacts in four Moodle courses: Programming Paradigms (PP), Internet Programming Techniques (IPT), Graphical User Interface Design (GuiD), and Multimedia Techniques (MT). The following aspects are detailed and discussed: course format, HTML5 playing, SVG, CSS3, and JavaScript coding. The GuiD & MT courses, in old versions, will be reengineered to meet the new requirements imposed by web 2.0 e-learning technologies. The following challenging topics highgliht the efficiency of Moodle: PP(Programming in Python, Programming in Common Lisp, Programming in Prolog), IPT (Client-Server applications, Developing HTML5 complient content, Quality improvement by CCS3, Dynamic behaviour improvement by JavaScript and PHP, Server side applications, distributed data base connections), Guid (Graphical Interfaces in C# and Java, Android applications), and MT (Image standards, Audio-Video standards, Multimedia databases, Multimedia Security). Due to such a large plethora of objects, the Moodle platform is full investigated related on the support offered to build high quality e-Learning content. Interoperability assurance techniques are considered to import/export content. Not only standards on Multimedia artifacts, but the conformity with e-Learning standards are considered. Many types of resources are used to illustrate both the content of course's units, and the Moodle support. The article discusses the mechanisms of regulation of the P-glycoprotein transporter protein (Pgp) in cells of the Caco2 line under conditions of modeling endogenous oxidative stress caused by exposure to DL-butyonine sulfoximine (BSO, a glutathione synthesis inhibitor). Ex-periments have shown that exposure to BSO at concentrations of 10-100 μM leads to a de-crease in the concentration of glutathione, an increase in the amount of Pgp and nuclear factor of erythroid origin 2 (Nrf2). Inhibition of Nrf2 contributed to the normalization of Pgp levels, which proves the participation of the transcription factor in the regulation of the transporter protein under the conditions of modeling endogenous oxidative stress.

Abstract. The objective of this study is to present a novel approach for airplane inspection to identify damages on the fuselage. Machine learning algorithms in the aeronautic industry can be used as an instrument for automating the process of inspection and detection, decreasing human error, and increasing productivity and security for operators. An overview of the problems, methods, and recent developments in the field of deep learning algorithms used for general damage detection on aircraft components is provided in this extended abstract. Data were collected using a high-quality acquisition system and the dataset was populated by collecting defect images from 2 typologies of aircraft: a commercial partial full-scale airplane fuselage section in primer paint and a general aviation fuselage white painted, both situated in the laboratory of heavy structures of University of Naples Federico II. The Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) and machine learning models were trained on large datasets of annotated images, enabling them to learn complex features associated with different types of damage. Data augmentation techniques are adopted to add diversity to the training data. Transfer learning techniques, which leverage pre-trained models on large-scale image datasets, have also proved to be effective in achieving accurate and robust detection results.

Photonic crystal (PhC) cavities can be formed by depositing materials onto PhC waveguides post-fabrication to modulate the local refractive index. Previous studies suggested that ultrahigh Q-factor PhC cavities could be formed with a small local refractive index modulation of ~0.1% [1, 2]. However, experimental attempts to create such cavities by depositing poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) onto GaAs PhC waveguides were unable to achieve ultrahigh Q cavities because of the thick polymer layer [3]. Another approach of placing nanowires along the PhC waveguide to induce the formation of nanocavities have also been reported [4, 5]. Alternatively, 2D materials with their atomically thin nature represent a novel platform to realize the small refractive index modulation to induce high Q nanocavity in a PhC waveguide. In this work, we report the observation of high Q-factor nanocavities formed by placing atomically thin transition metal dichalcogenide (TMDC) flakes onto PhC waveguides.

The Rap-Phr quorum sensing signaling system of the pBS72 plasmid is characterized by functional features. When the rap-phr genes in the pBS72 plasmid were disrupted, the efficiency of sporulation increased 2-fold, and when the mutant plasmid was transferred conjugatively, the number of donor cells decreased 10-fold after 3 and 4 hours and 100-fold after 24 hours of crossing. The number of transconjugants remained unchanged.

The metabolic activity of the polyphosphoinositides in unstimulated human platelets was studied by 1) short-term labelling with 32P-Pi, 2) by replacement of PP. from pre-labelled platelets with unlabelled phosphate and 3) by depriving the cells of metabolic ATP. Under short-term labelling conditions, the 4- and 5-phosphates of phosphatidylinositol-4-phosphate (PIP2) and phosphatidylinositol 4,5-bisphosphate (PIP2) had the same specific radioactivity as the γ-phosphate of metabolic ATP. The specific radioactivity of the 1-phosphates of phosphatidylinositol, PIP and PIP2 was similar but only 4-13 % as compared to the γ phosphate of ATP. When 32P-Pi. pre-labelled platelets were incubated with up to 25 mA of unlabelled phosphate, the displacement of the P-label from PIP, PIP2 and metabolic ATP followed similar kinetics. Inhibition of ATP regeneration in 32P-Pi pre-labelled platelets resulted in a rapid fall in metabolic ATP with much slower fall in 32P-PIP. 32P-PIP increased initially and decreased thereafter in parallel with PIP2. However, ATP turnover was not abolished, as indicated by the marked (25 % of the control) incorporation of extracellular 32P-Pi. into PIP and PIP2 in metabolically inhibited platelets. This low phosphate turnover may explain the relative resistance of PIP and PIP2 to metabolic inhibition.We conclude that PIP and PIP2 are present as a single metabolic pool in human platelets. Turnover of the 4- and 5-phosphates of PIP and PIP2 in unstimulated platelets is as rapid as that of the γ- Phosphate of metabolic ATP, and accounts for about 7 % of basal ATP consumption.

Megakaryocytes were grown from medullary progenitor cells using the plasma clot technique, with 5 % human serum and with or without 2,5 % PHA-LCM. Using this technique megakaryocyte cultures were done in 5 patients essential thrombocythemia (ET) ( platelet count :0,6 x 106 to 1,4 x 106 /μi) before chemotherapy and antiplatelet agents and in 2 patients with secondary thrombocytosis (ST) (platelet count : 0,65 x lO6 and 0,8 x 106 /μi) corrected after effective anti-bacterial or iron therapy. The results were as followsx number of colonies mean number (in brackets) of cells per colonyIt appears therefore that in ET, megakaryocyte progenitors grow without PHA-LCM and show however a better proliferation in its presence. On the contrary in ST, PHA-LCM is required for obtaining a 6 times increase of MK colonies. The effect of MK growth under chemotherapy is reported in some of the patients studied before treatment and results analyzed and compared to platelet function involvement

Electrochemical measurements have been performed on polished and mill scaled steel samples. The solutions investigated have included carbonate bicarbonate mixtures of varying pH as well as solutions of neutral pH such as NS4. Results indicate that the mechanism of corrosion associated with the carbonate bicarbonate environments involves passive film formation. No such passivation is observed for solutions associated with neutral pH SCC. Electrochemical corrosion rates measured on polished steel specimens exposed to NS4 solutions in the pH range 5 to 6.8 were in the region of 5 x 10e-1 to 1 x 10e-2 mm/s. However, rates obtained on mill scaled surfaces went much lower and in the region of 5 x 10e-10 mm/s. Field determined crack propagation rates are estimated to be in the region of 2 x 10e-8 mm/s. Whilst the laboratory determined corrosion rates are lower than the field propagation rate it should be remembered that the laboratory rates were obtained on unstressed specimens. The application of load would be expected to increase the corrosion rate and may indicate that stress focused dissolution process may be sufficient to explain the propagation of neutral pH stress corrosion cracks. However, as hydrogen evolution is the most likely cathodic reaction involved in the mechanism of neutral pH SCC the role of hydrogen in the crack propagation mechanism may also be important.

Background PHS (pulmonary hypertension syndrome, ascites syndrome) is a serious cause of loss in the broiler industry, and is a prime example of an undesirable side effect of successful genetic development that may be deleteriously manifested by factors in the environment of growing broilers. Basically, continuous and pinpointed selection for rapid growth in broilers has led to higher oxygen demand and consequently to more frequent manifestation of an inherent potential cardiopulmonary incapability to sufficiently oxygenate the arterial blood. The multifaceted causes and modifiers of PHS make research into finding solutions to the syndrome a complex and multi threaded challenge. This research used several directions to better understand the development of PHS and to probe possible means of achieving a goal of monitoring and increasing resistance to the syndrome. Research Objectives (1) To evaluate the growth dynamics of individuals within breeding stocks and their correlation with individual susceptibility or resistance to PHS; (2) To compile data on diagnostic indices found in this work to be predictive for PHS, during exposure to experimental protocols known to trigger PHS; (3) To conduct detailed physiological evaluations of cardiopulmonary function in broilers; (4) To compile data on growth dynamics and other diagnostic indices in existing lines selected for susceptibility or resistance to PHS; (5) To integrate growth dynamics and other diagnostic data within appropriate statistical procedures to provide geneticists with predictive indices that characterize resistance or susceptibility to PHS. Revisions In the first year, the US team acquired the costly Peckode weigh platform / individual bird I.D. system that was to provide the continuous (several times each day), automated weighing of birds, for a comprehensive monitoring of growth dynamics. However, data generated were found to be inaccurate and irreproducible, so making its use implausible. Henceforth, weighing was manual, this highly labor intensive work precluding some of the original objectives of using such a strategy of growth dynamics in selection procedures involving thousands of birds. Major conclusions, solutions, achievements 1. Healthy broilers were found to have greater oscillations in growth velocity and acceleration than PHS susceptible birds. This proved the scientific validity of our original hypothesis that such differences occur. 2. Growth rate in the first week is higher in PHS-susceptible than in PHS-resistant chicks. Artificial neural network accurately distinguished differences between the two groups based on growth patterns in this period. 3. In the US, the unilateral pulmonary occlusion technique was used in collaboration with a major broiler breeding company to create a commercial broiler line that is highly resistant to PHS induced by fast growth and low ambient temperatures. 4. In Israel, lines were obtained by genetic selection on PHS mortality after cold exposure in a dam-line population comprising of 85 sire families. The wide range of PHS incidence per family (0-50%), high heritability (about 0.6), and the results in cold challenged progeny, suggested a highly effective and relatively easy means for selection for PHS resistance 5. The best minimally-invasive diagnostic indices for prediction of PHS resistance were found to be oximetry, hematocrit values, heart rate and electrocardiographic (ECG) lead II waves. Some differences in results were found between the US and Israeli teams, probably reflecting genetic differences in the broiler strains used in the two countries. For instance the US team found the S wave amplitude to predict PHS susceptibility well, whereas the Israeli team found the P wave amplitude to be a better valid predictor. 6. Comprehensive physiological studies further increased knowledge on the development of PHS cardiopulmonary characteristics of pre-ascitic birds, pulmonary arterial wedge pressures, hypotension/kidney response, pulmonary hemodynamic responses to vasoactive mediators were all examined in depth. Implications, scientific and agricultural Substantial progress has been made in understanding the genetic and environmental factors involved in PHS, and their interaction. The two teams each successfully developed different selection programs, by surgical means and by divergent selection under cold challenge. Monitoring of the progress and success of the programs was done be using the in-depth estimations that this research engendered on the reliability and value of non-invasive predictive parameters. These findings helped corroborate the validity of practical means to improve PHT resistance by research-based programs of selection.

• Renewable energy (RE) projects in Indonesia usually have IRR between 10% and 15% and PP around 6 to 30 years • Attractive return usually could be found in large scale RE projects, although there are numerous other factors involved including technology developments, capacity scale, power purchasing price agreements, project locations, as well as interest rates and applied incentives. • Crowdfunding (CF) has big potential to contribute to the financing of RE projects especially financing small scale RE projects. • P2P lending usually targeted short-term loans with high interest rates. Therefore, it cannot be employed as an alternative financing for RE projects in Indonesia. • Three types of CF that can be employed as an alternative for RE project funding in Indonesia. Namely, securities, reward, and donation-based CF. In addition, hybrid models such as securities-reward and reward-donation could also be explored according to the project profitability. • Several benefits offer by securities crowdfunding (SCF) compared to conventional banking and P2P lending, as follows: (1) issuer do not need to pledge assets as collateral; (2) do not require to pay instalment each month; (3) issuer share risks with investors with no obligation to cover the investor’s loss; (4) applicable for micro, small, medium, enterprises (MSMEs) with no complex requirements; and (5) there is possibility to attract investors with bring specific value. • Several challenges that need to be tackled such as the uncertainty of RE regulations; (1) issuer’s inability in managing the system and business; (2) the absence of third parties in bridging between CF platform and potential issuer from RE project owner; (3) the lack of financial literacy of the potential funders; and (4) lastly the inadequacy of study regarding potential funders in escalating the RE utilisation in Indonesia.

Condition being studied: Diabetic retinopathy (DR) is the most common complication of diabetes mellitus, which will seriously affect the quality of life of patients and bring great burden to patients’ families and society. DR is one of the most important diseases of blindness in people aged 20 to 60 years worldwide. Nearly 15% of diabetic patients with a disease duration of more than 5 years were combined with DR.The prevalence of vision threatening diabetic retinopathy in the United States is 4.4 percent. Worldwide, the prevalence is estimated at 10.2%.At present, the treatment methods for type 2 proliferative diabetic retinopathy (T2PDR), at home and abroad mainly include retinal laser photocoagulation and intravitreal injection of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) inhibitors.

Båtelfiske är en provtagningsmetod som använts relativt sparsamt i Sverige. Denna rapport sammanfattar en provtagningsinsats i företrädelsevis lugnflytande vattendrag i södra Sverige under år 2021. Syftet med provtagningen var att med en ny standardiserad metod [vilken togs fram i samband med detta provfiske, men har publicerats separat (Havs- och vattenmyndigheten, Övervakningsmanual för akvatisk miljöövervakning: Fisk i rinnande vatten – elfiskebåt, version 1.0)] samla in ett dataunderlag som kan används för utveckling av bedömningsgrunder för ekologisk status inom vattenförvaltningen. Eftersom mer data kommer krävas för att utveckla robusta bedömningsgrunder fokuserar rapporten huvudsakligen på att 1) beskriva och motivera metoder och val av insamlad data, 2) beskriva fångsterna i grova drag, i förhållande till tidigare skattad fysikaliskkemisk status och ett antal omgivningsvariabler, och 3) undersöka vilka typer av vattendrag som vi saknar data från efter insatsen 2021. Rapporten avslutas med en sektion som presenterar de erfarenheter vi fått under 2021 års elfisken. Totalt fångades 18 arter och 8885 individer i 18 vattenförekomster (38 provfiskeplatser). Arterna som fångades i flest provfisken var: mört (18 vattenförekomster, vfk; 37 provfiskeplatser, pfp), abborre (17; 34), benlöja (16 vfk; 31 pfp), gädda (15 vfk; 29 pfp) och sarv (9 vfk; 16 pfp). Vi noterade att ovanligare arter med känd förekomst i ett vattendrag inte alltid fångas, att bottenlevande arter inte fångades i särskilt stor utsträckning, att gädda tenderar att fly undan elfiskebåten på ickehåvbart avstånd och att stimlevande fisk (t.ex. benlöja och yngel av karpfisk) till relativt stor andel kan missas när mängden individer som påverkas av elfisket är stor. Med kännedom om dessa skevheter i data (d.v.s. jämfört den antagna faktiska fiskförekomsten) torde dock ändå bedömningar om den ekologiska statusen gå att göra, åtminstone i grova drag, t.ex. genom analys av relativ frekvens och storleksfördelning av vanligt förekommande arter. Olika miljövariablers relation till fångsten (antal arter och antal individer) undersöktes grafiskt med slutsatsen att mer data krävs för att se generella mönster. Observerad dödlighet var i genomsnitt 3,4 %, men variationen mellan olika provfiskeplatser var stor (spann 0 – 31 %). Överlag var dock observerad dödlighet betydligt lägre än 10 %. Vad gäller fördröjd dödlighet är läget idag okänt. Vattendragstyper där data saknas efter 2021 års båtelfisken utgör en allt för lång lista för att summeras i denna sammanfattning (se istället sammanställning i Tabell 2-5). Generellt anser vi att den nya standardiserade metoden förefaller fungera bra i medelstora vattendrag med relativt höga fisktätheter, däremot verkar det finnas potentiella problem att fånga tillräcklig mängd fisk i större vattendrag (antagligen på grund av att fisken är mer rumsmässigt utspridd).

This report summarizes the work completed in Year One of the three-year project: PRCI SCC-2-12 Effect of Pressure Fluctuations on Growth Rate of Near-Neutral pH SCC. The investigation in Year One has been primarily focused on the validation of the software being developed for crack growth and remaining life prediction using SCADA Data. A total of 9 pressure spectra, 4 for oil pipelines and 5 for gas pipelines, have been collected and used as inputs for the software. It was found that a pressure spectrum can be quantified using a parameter termed as Spectra Factor to represent the severity of load/pressure interactions in terms of crack growth rate. A spectra factor higher than one indicates the enhanced crack growth rate by load interactions, such as the case where unloads are frequently present in the pressure spectra, while a spectra factor lower than one may be associated with a retarded crack growth, which can be seen in pressure spectra with predominant overloading events. The oil pipelines are characterized with more frequent and larger pressure fluctuations, and crack growth is directly caused by these cycles. The gas pipelines are characterized with minor cycles with high stress ratio and the subsequent underloading cycles with low stress ratios, and crack growth rate can be enhanced by a factor 10 under the combined minor-underload pressure fluctuation cyclic loading scenarios. The software allows the SCADA/pressure fluctuation data with Excel spreadsheet format to be directly analyzed producing a projected remaining life of the pipeline based on the past pressure fluctuations and assumed future pressure fluctuations.

This report releases 235 runs of whole-rock geochemical and assay results of 235 samples/subsamples from the Archean banded iron formation-hosted gold mineralization in the Geraldton area, eastern Wabigoon subprovince, northwestern Ontario. The samples were collected during the 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2016 field seasons as part of a PhD study by the senior author (T�th, 2018) at Laurentian University in Sudbury. Geochemical analyses were paid in part by the GSC for the 2012, 2013 samples, while the 2014 and 2016 samples were graciously paid by the second author, Bruno Lafrance and Greenstone Gold Mines, respectively. Research on gold mineralization hosted in banded iron formation BIF was conducted under the Lode Gold project of TGI4. The geochemical data is presented in a format easily importable in a geographic information system (GIS). Samples were collected from drill core and outcrops to document host units, the alteration halo, and the mineralized zones. Preliminary interpretations about the auriferous mineralization and its geological setting are presented in Lafrance et al. (2012) and in T�th et al. (2013a, 2013b, 2014, 2015a, 2015b). The final interpretation of the geological setting of the gold mineralization was published in T�th and others (2022, 2023). Sample information and geochemical results are presented in Appendices 1 and 2 (worksheet "Results"), respectively. The results worksheet combines 5 reports produced between 2012 and 2016.
