Pełny tekst źródłaNowadays, metal storage systems are generally used in industrial companies. The several stages of the metallic structures design are based in the standard EN 15512:2009. However, this standard do not the most efficient design solution, only design constraints. In this work, it is intended to improve the structural elements that are on the base of the metal storage systems, particularly shelves, in order to reduce costs and increase the structure stiffness, enforcing the international standard that define the characteristics of these products. The main purpose is the optimization of a representative section of profiled steel component taking into account the variable thickness, geometry and number of perforations. In order to do this a computational finite element model is developed and pre-‐validated, replacing a numerous set of experimental tests in a design of Experiments (DoE) methodology. The optimized solutions were obtained through a response surface optimization methodology (RSM). The final results were analysed and discussed.
Hoje em dia, os sistemas metálicos de armazenamento são vulgarmente utilizados pela indústria. As várias etapas de projeto destas estruturas metálicas são baseadas na norma EN 15512:2009. No entanto, esta norma não propõe a solução de projeto mais eficiente, apenas as suas restrições. Neste trabalho, pretende-‐se aperfeiçoar os elementos estruturais que estão na base dos sistemas de armazenamento de metal, particularmente prateleiras, a fim de reduzir custos e aumentar a rigidez da estrutura, satisfazendo a norma internacional que define as características necessárias desses produtos. O objetivo principal é a otimização de uma secção representativa do componente de aço perfilado tendo em conta as variáveis espessura, geometria e número de perfurações. Para isso, é desenvolvido e validado um modelo computacional de elementos finitos, substituindo um numeroso conjunto de testes experimentais numa metodologia de Design of Experiments (DoE). As soluções otimizadas são obtidas através de uma metodologia de otimização baseada numa superfície de resposta (RSM). Os resultados finais são analisados e discutidos.

Pełny tekst źródłaThis thesis work is about the study of the microperforations influence on the vibratory response of a cellular structure as a honeycomb sandwich panel. Satellites' antenna's reflectors placed on telecommunication satellites, as many satellites' elements, are manufactured in this kind of materials. During the launcher take-off for putting satellite into orbit, the mechanical stresses applied to the system are acoustical and vibration borne stress. The acoustic stress, linked to the high level diffuse acoustic field inside the launcher fairing is the most important. It plays a part in the antenna's reflector size and conception. The issue of the thesis is to evaluate the potential of a treatment using microperforations on this panel in order to reduce its vibration. The microperforations effect on the vibration response of the antenna's reflector is double. On one hand, the acoustic loading applied by the exciter pressure is reduced by an absorption mechanism due to the presence of microperforations, coupled to cavities formed by honeycomb cells. This effect, well known in the litterature, is for instance described by the acoustic impedance model developped by D.-Y. Maa, coupled to an impedance model of honeycomb cavity and taking into account the inner and outer radiations of the microperforation. On the other hand, a vibro-acoustical effect is induced by the coupling between panel vibrations and acoustic movements inside microperforations. The modelling of this effect, not well described in the litterature, constitutes an original element of the thesis work: a discrete model constructed using the acoustic impedance of an orifice, allows the computation of an elementary damping force and then leads, after an homogenisation, to an estimation of the modal damping of the microperforated panel. Both modellings proposed for the acoustic loading reduction and the damping added by microperforations, show that the panel vibration response is weakly reduced in the frequency band of interest, which confirms experimental tests like: response comparison of non microperforated and microperforated panels placed in reverberant room and noise chamber. The acoustic loading modification induced by the microperforation of both sides of the honeycomb sandwich panel is modelling in the thesis last chapter and allows an increase of the effect on the frequency band aimed

Pełny tekst źródłaThe understanding of wave propagation in periodic structures is proposed in this work. Periodic structures exhibit very specific properties in terms of wave propagation. First, some numerical tools for dispersion analysis of periodic structures are presented. The classical Floquet-Bloch approach is first presented, as a reference. This technique uses proper boundary conditions on the unit cell, but dealing with damping is not easy for 2D or 3D cases. Secondly, a metamaterial with hierarchical, auxetic (negative Poisson ratio) rectangular perforations is presented using the Floquet-Bloch method as a reference. Some numerical eigenvalue tools are used for the dispersion analysis of this structure. A geometric parametric investigation of these rectangular perforations using a numerical asymptotic homogenisation finite element approach is done. The experimental validation is performed with a network based on polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) using a 3D scanning vibrometer. Third, the Shift cell operator technique is described. It consists in a reformulation of the PDE problem by shifting in terms of wave number the space derivatives appearing in the mechanical behavior operator inside the cell, while imposing continuity boundary conditions on the borders of the domain. Damping effects can be introduced in the system. This strategy make it possible to solve the problem with an arbitrary frequency dependency of the physical properties of the cell. A focus is proposed on tools for the post-processing of dispersion diagrams in damped configurations like group velocity. Finally, an adaptive metamaterial based on the combination of metallic parts with highly dissipative polymeric interface is designed. In order to validate the design and the adaptive character of the metamaterial, results issued from a full 3D model of a finite structure embedding an interface composed by a distributed set of the unit cells are presented. After this step, a comparison between the results obtained using the tunable structure simulation and the experimental results is presented

L are the unique sealing products that having the capacity to seal or limit a punctual leakage through an accidental defect. According to the environmental conditions, it is appropriate to estimate the limits of this self-healing potential. On the other hand, the installation of the G. C. L obligatorily requires overlap zones between the panels. These zones are potential weak points to which particular attention has to be given if we want to guarantee the sealing continuity. The research work presented in this rapport is situated in this context, which has two experimentally objectives : To examine the self-healing capacity of G. C. L in site and in laboratory as well; Original apparatus were designed and realized. Tests carried out in site on a capping landfill and in laboratory as well intend to quantify, qualify and visualise self-healing of several types of G. C. L. To study the hydraulic behavior at the level of the G. C. L’s overlap. An original apparatus of tank type was designed and realized to study the overlap’s zones of G. C. L, it allows to carry out tests of characterization and performance. A radial permeameter was also used in order to qualify another interfaces no woven or woven G. C. L’s Geotextile/Géomembrane. Nine tests of long duration were devoted to study the hydraulic performances of the G. C. L at the level of the overlap and in the plein section. Different types of zone’s overlap treatment were studied. Gas flow through the G. C. L’s overlap was studied by the realization of tests concerning four types of G. C. L’s overlap. Finally, an overlap non treated and an interface zone G. C. L/rough surface were modelled in the hydraulic point view by a flow software “eau-sol”

Pełny tekst źródłaCAMP occupies a strategic position to control responses to a large variety of developmental cues. However the role of individual adenylate cyclase subtypes is unclear. In the barrelless mouse strain (brl), déficient for the adenylate cyclase 1 (AC1) gene, the fine topography of the retinotectal map is altered, with a lack of confinement of retinal axon arbors in both the rostro-caudal and medio-lateral dimensions (Ravary et al. 2003). Two principal processes are known to be involved in the refinement of retinal axon topography: one depends on the repulsive guidance cues, ephrins, and the other depends on the spontaneous activity generated in the retina. We have identified the ACs involved in the development of retinal projections and investigated the interactions between cAMP, neuronal activity, and ephrin-As that are critical for the topography of retinal axons along the rostrocaudal axis of the superior colliculus (SC). To identify the ACs involved in the development of retinal maps, we have described the developmental expression of the ACs in the retina and in the brain. We have identified AC1, AC2, ACS, and ACS in the layer of cells projecting from the retina (the retinal ganglion cells (RGCs)). We found that AC1, AC2 and ACS are expressed in the targets of the retinal axons. To test whether these ACs are critical for the formation of retinal maps, we have traced the retinal axons in adult WT, AC1-/-, brl, AC5-/- and AC8-/- mice. Only AC1-/- and brl mice show altered retinal projections. Thus AC1 seems to be the only AC involved in the development of retinal maps. To study the role of AC1 we have developed a co-culture model that mimics the development of retinal projections in vivo. We have confronted temporal or nasal retinal explants with a mesencephalic slice containing the SC. In this model, temporal (and not nasal) axons retract from the caudal SC in an ephrin-A-dependent way. Temporal axons from brl temporal retina do not retract where confronted with a WT SC, whereas a brl mesencephalic slice does not alter the retraction of WT axons. Thus AC1 is required in the RGCs, not in the SC, for correct refinement of retinal projections. We have tested the interaction between AC1 and ephrin-As by inducing the retraction of retinal axons by soluble ephrin-A5. The rate of collapse of brl growth cones is normal but after collapsing their axons that to retract, showing that AC1 perturbs the normal targeting of retinal axons by altering thé ephrin-A response. As AC1 is stimulated by extracellular calcium entry and neuronal activity is required for thé formation of retinal projections, we hypothesized that thé stimulation of AC1 by activity is critical for the ephrin-A induced axonal retraction. In our co-culture model, blocking activity alters the retraction of temporal axons in a manner similar to thé absence of AC1 and the perturbation of ephrin-A signalling. The retraction defects of retinal axons that lack AC1 are reproduced by blocking activity with TTX. These defects are rescued by generating cAMP oscillations in TTX treated growth cones, but not by a continuous stimulation of the ACs. A manuscript describing thèse findings is in préparation. Thus AC1 is the only AC required for the refinement of retinal projections, and acts in the growth cones by generating cAMP oscillations in response to neuronal activity in order to allow the axonal retraction induced by ephrin-As

En se basant sur la même méthodologie, on traite le cas d'une plaque mince et d'une coque de Koiter périodiques, lorsque l'épaisseur et la période tendent vers zéro.
Le deuxième volet comporte la simulation numérique du comportement macroscopique de quelques structures piézoélectriques particulières, en l'occurrence : le piézocomposite perforé et le piézocomposite laminé. Cette simulation trouve un intérêt pour de nouvelles applications dans ce type de structures, notamment l'hydrophonie, l'imagerie biomédicale et le contrôle des vibrations (filtrage spatial).

Pełny tekst źródłaThis report investigates the down-aisle buckling load capacity of steel storage rack uprights. The effects of discrete torsional restraints provided by the frame bracing in the cross-aisle direction is considered in this report. Since current theoretical methods used to predict the buckling capacity of rack uprights appear to be over-conservative and complex, this research may provide engineers an alternative method of design using detailed finite element analysis. In this study, the results from experimental testing of upright frames with K-bracing are compared to finite element predictions of displacements and maximum axial loads. The finite element analysis is then used to determine the buckling loads on braced and un-braced uprights of various lengths. The upright capacities can then be compared with standard design methods which generally do not accurately take into account the torsional resistance that the cross-aisle frame bracing provides to the upright. The information contained in this report would be beneficial to engineers or manufacturers who are involved in the design of rack uprights or other discretely braced complex light gauge steel members subject to axial loads.

Pełny tekst źródłaPurpose: To evaluate the integrity of the retina photoreceptor layer as determined by optical coherence tomography and its relationship with final visual outcome in successfully closed idiopathic macular holes. Methods: Successfully operated patients with a minimal follow-up of 12 months, underwent complete ophthalmic exam involving post-operative best corrected visual acuity using logMar scale, macula biomicroscopy and indirect ophthalmoscopy and fluorescein angiography. Complete epidemiologic data was collected as well as time duration, pre-op visual acuity, and size and Gass classification of the holes. Optical coherence tomography images of the layer corresponding to the transition between inner and outer segments of the photoreceptors were meticulously generated using commercially available Stratus OCT (OCT3). Qualitative analysis of this layer was carried out, in a masked fashion, by a certified and well experienced examiner. Based on increasing integrity showed in the images, patients were then distributed in 3 groups: 1, 2 and 3. Group 1 integrity from 1 to 33%, group 2 from 34 to 66%, and group 3 from 67 to 100%. Results: A total of 39 eyes of 37 patients were included in the study. Among all patients, 12 were included in group 1, 7 in group 3 and 20 in group 3. There were 22 female (59,5%) and 15 male (40,5%). Mean age was 68.2 years varying from 51 to 83 years of age. Mean post-op follow-up time was 38.5 months. When comparing groups 1 and 3, best corrected final visual acuity improved in both groups but dramatically in group 3 (better integrity) (p<0.001). Pre-operative size and time duration of the hole did not correlate with better visual acuity (p=0.223 and p=0.559 respectively). Mean pre-op visual acuity was better in group 3 than in group 1 (p=0.012). Conclusion: Data obtained in our study indicate that there is a strong correlation between better integrity of the photoreceptor layer, as determined by optical coherence tomography, and a more successful final, long term, visual acuity in patients with idiopathic macular hole successfully operated. Although final visual acuity has improved in all groups, there was statistical difference between groups 1 and 3. Pre-operative size and time duration of the hole did not have impact on final visual acuity. Better pre-op visual acuity may have an effect on final outcome.

So far, they have been commonly used as receivers in the audible frequency range, in air at atmospheric pressure and ambient temperature, they have been appropriately characterised in this context for nearly thirty years. But nowadays, their miniaturisation (using MEMS processes) and their new use for metrological purposes (as receivers as well as transmitters) require much deeper theoretical and experimental characterisations because they require an accurate knowledge of their behaviour in high frequency ranges (up to 100 kHz), in gas mixtures, whose properties differ from those of air, and under pressure and temperature conditions much higher or much lower than standard conditions. Thus, here, -i/ the effects of the thermal boundary layers are introduced in the model (only viscous boundary layers are usually accounted for), leading, in the first chapter, to an analysis of the thermal diffusion of thin bodies (whose scope is beyond the strict frame of capacitive transducers), ii/ the influence of the holes in the backing electrode on the dynamic behaviour of the membrane is initially handled with an original analytical method which allows expressing the non-uniform boundary conditions at the surface of the backing electrode as fictitious localised sources associated to uniform boundary conditions (second chapter), -iii/ new analytical solutions, depending both on the radial and azimuthal coordinates, for the pressure field and for the displacement field inside the cavities behind the membrane are expressed using modal theories in agreement with the strong couplings which occur between the different parts of the transducer (chapter three), -iv/ "lumped element circuits", which are more or less approximated (presented in the Appendix), more particularly result in expressing and assessing the sensitivity and the thermal noise (end of chapter three), -v/ experimental results, obtained from measurements of the displacement field of the membrane using a laser scanning vibrometer, both highlight and quantify for the first time the complex behaviour of the membrane in the highest frequency range, and finally lead to the validation of the theoretical results and therefore, the models presented here (even if the latter may still be improved as outlined in the conclusion)

Pełny tekst źródłaIn this work, materials of a « concrete face rockfill dams -cfrd-» are studied. Firstly, the rockfill materials are characterized by measurement of theirs mineralogical, physical and mechanical properties. The failure process under compressive loading is also investigated. The mechanical behavior analysis of material specimen subjected to compressive loading is achieved by measuring simultaneously, during the loading path, the deformations, the gas permeability variations and the acoustic emission. Secondly, rock specimens are subjected to physical and physico-chemical weatherability tests to evaluate their durability. In fact, in this type of dam the durability evaluation of rock is very important when the materials are to be subjected to the natural elements, seasonal weather, repeated cycles of temperature, freeze, thaw, and service conditions. Results of weatherability tests show that the behavior of studied rockfill materials can be affected even in moderated conditions
