Streszczenie:

Positive psychological capital (PsyCap), a second-order construct formed from optimism, hope, resilience, and self-efficacy, has predicted the performance and psychological well-being of a variety of full-time workers, and mediators of the relationships between PsyCap and performance and psychological well-being have rarely been examined. Using self-determination theory, broaden-and-build theory, and the conceptual framework of positive psychology, this study was an exploration of (a) the relationships among PsyCap, (b) basic psychological need satisfaction (i.e., autonomy, competence, relatedness), and (c) psychological well-being and performance using a sample of 103 working actors and stunt people. A serial mediation model was proposed whereby PsyCap predicted performance through need satisfaction and psychological well-being. Statistically significant bivariate correlations were found among PsyCap, autonomy, competence, relatedness, psychological well-being, and performance. Multiple regression analyses yielded indirect effects tested for statistical significance using bias-corrected bootstrapping. Results showed a total indirect effect of PsyCap on psychological well-being through need satisfaction and a specific indirect effect of PsyCap on psychological well-being through relatedness. Results showed no total indirect effect for PsyCap on performance through need satisfaction but did show a specific indirect effect of PsyCap on performance through relatedness. No statistically significant indirect effects of autonomy, competence, and relatedness on performance through psychological well-being were found. Theoretical and practical implications for future researchers, independent workers, and organizations supporting independent workers are discussed.

Streszczenie:
Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC), the federal agency responsible for addressing the housing needs of low and moderate-income Canadians, considers those who are unable to secure physically adequate and uncrowded accommodation without spending more than 30% of their gross income to be in core housing need. This thesis analyzes single-person renter households determined to be in core housing need. Whereas the elderly (65 years and older) among core housing need singles are relatively well supported through CMHC's social housing programs, non-elderly core need singles generally do not receive support. Using an analytical framework that focusses on the severity of housing need, and by comparing the socio-economic profiles of selected age groups within this core housing need category, the study has demonstrated the existence of severe housing need, as defined by CMHC, among non-elderly core need singles and has established that the near-elderly (aged 50-64) are in the greatest need among all core need singles and are, therefore, in greater need compared to the elderly. In view of a data base upon which the allocation of assistance to at least those in the greatest need among non-elderly core need singles can be justified, it is argued that CMHC as well as other government agencies and housing support groups must acknowledge such evidence, consider a re-evaluation of priorities and take appropriate action to the extent possible in light of current fiscal restraint . Several suggestions are put forward to this end.

Streszczenie:
Recent policy and literature have advocated the importance of access to positive activities for young people as part of the strategy to lessen social disadvantage. This research aimed to explore how ‘typical’ young people in an urban locality make the decision to engage in activities and whether relative social disadvantage has the same affect in this area as that suggested in the literature. A case study approach was used, involving individual interviews with 6 year 7 pupils and 3 service providers linked to a sports college. A further focus group interview helped clarify interpretation. Thematic analysis was used to identify themes and patterns in the data. Generalisations about the pattern of engagement in positive activities for disadvantaged young people were found not to apply to this case study, challenging the media tendency towards negative stereotyping of young people in the area. The need for local solutions to local issues was emphasised as a key issue.

Streszczenie:
This study is a part of a poly generation project which will use animal waste or agricultural waste to produce biogas and will provide cooking gas, electricity and arsenic free clean water for drinking in rural areas of Bangladesh.  The study mainly analyzes the cooking and lighting energy demand of households across different income groups in a village named “Pani Para” in the Faridpur district in Bangladesh and also looks at the potential of biogas in the village. It has been done by adopting case study method and conducting a survey in the village using a questionnaire. Fuel mix across different income groups for meeting their cooking and lighting energy needs have also been studied along with socio-economic situation of the villagers and their preferences to change their current cooking fuel utilization patterns. Various scenarios like variation in fuel consumption patterns, priority of income expenditure and access to fuel with income level have been examined. The study also focuses to analyze the awareness of the villagers about biogas technology and their willingness to contribute for the poly generation project along with the willingness of households to pay for embracing change in current cooking and lighting fuels. Biomass potential i.e. cow dung and agricultural waste is also calculated in the surveyed village along with the production of biogas from the available biomass resources. The scenarios to provide the cooking gas, electricity and clean water through biogas poly generation project from the available resources are also investigated. Analysis reveals that the total energy consumption (cooking and lighting) increases with the increase in the income level among the households. Average household cooking and lighting energy demand by low, medium and high income groups is 8492 kWh/yr, 9789 kWh/yr and 14806 kWh/yr respectively. Cooking energy demand and agricultural waste consumption also show an increasing trend with the increase in land holding size. Among the income expenditure priorities food is one of the most important priorities and energy being less important due to availability of biomass at little or no cost. Awareness of biogas technology among the households and willingness to contribute for the poly generation plant shows an increasing trend with the increase in education level. The study shows that there is a positive response of the villagers for being willing to embrace the change in the current cooking patterns as well as welcoming new technologies that could support such a change. It was found that the cow dung resource in the village is not enough to produce sufficient biogas for the poly generation project. With the incorporation of the agricultural waste with the cow dung, biogas production comes quite close to requirement of the poly generation plant but however could not suffice it completely due to the lack of raw material in the studied village. In that case the scenario of providing electricity and clean water to all the villagers and providing all the three facilities to the 2/3rd of households is investigated. 1/3rd of the low income households then could meet their cooking demands by provision of improved cooking stoves as cooking gas could not be provided to them due to limited feedstock. The study shows that despite of the fact that cooking and lighting energy needs increase with income but there is not much variation in the fuel mix and almost everyone in the village rely on biomass to meet their energy demand. It is because there is very limited access to the modern fuel for cooking and no electricity access in the village, so the households have to rely on the traditional fuels.

The marginalization of people through classification schemes results in inadequate access to information about these people when the context is, for example, a bibliographic classification system. When the context is the classification of the people themselves, they themselves are underrepresented, for instance, by society and government support. Taking the case of the natural disaster survivor, this paper explores appropriate steps to devising an accurate classification scheme of the survivors.

The aim of this study is to develop an information model for representing people’s needs in charity organizations of Saudi Arabia. The target population are the charity organizations that are concerned with donations gathering and distribution to their constituents. The aim of this study is achieved through three objectives; the first objective is to identify the current state of information systems use in the sector of charity organizations. The second objective is to identify the information needs of those charity organizations with regard to their constituents. By using the sense-making theory and its set of methods, we were able to understand the informational needs from the perspective of the users themselves. The third objective is to match the resulting sets of informational needs of charity organizations with the dimensions of human development needs by Narayan et al., (2000) which was researched to inform the World Development report on Poverty and Development. This study is significant because it was not conducted in that scale or scope before, and it provides a clear picture of the current state of information systems use in the sector, it also provides a research informed model, which will help better fulfill the needs of the poor people registered at those charities. The information needs model resulting from this study provides a valuable building block for a future information system, which is based on research data to improve efficiency, reliability and accountability in donations management for the wellbeing of the constituent. The data for this research was collected through two studies, the first study was targeted at the whole population of charity organizations through an electronic survey, and the final case number was 83 charities. This study aimed at investigating the current state of information systems use at charity organizations, respondents answered 18 questions divided in four sections. The first section was about the organization’s profile. The second was about information systems for constituents and donations. The third was about the constituents. The fourth, was additional information about adaptation of future IS. The second study was an interview with 15 charity organizations from Riyadh region. They included masculine and feminine charities, and charities of different localities such as village and small-city. This study used the sense-making theory byPage 2 of 2Brenda Dervin to investigate the information needs from the user’s perspective at the charity with regard to constituents and donations. The interviews were conducted face-to-face with each single case in the second study. The results of this research show that the use of information systems at charities is widespread, with 89.2% of charities using an IS in some or all work processes. It also revealed the diversity of processes in which charities employee IS, comprising 4 major themes and 22 distinct work processes. It also revealed that the information needs of charity organizations has seven distinct sets, and each set included between 2 and 19 information gaps. The results also show that the information needs of charities has a great coverage of the wellbeing dimensions of the World Development report of 2000/2001, spanning from 50% to 100% coverage. It also revealed that the number of all information sources, which could bridge the information gaps, are 18 sources spread across five sectors in the country. The information needs model for representing people’s needs was a result of the combination and analysis of all research findings to develop that model. It has nine dimensions of information and its corresponding data inputs, leading to the desired knowledge about the constituent. The model covers all aspects of the life of the constituent and can be modified by individual charities to satisfy their own objectives and to lead to new and relevant knowledge

Respite Care programs for the elderly and their families are being recognized and developed within Long Term Care systems. Research on these programs is sparse and focused on outcome studies. Very little work has been published that addresses grounded theory building or exploratory needs assessments in the definition of need and objectives for respite care. This exploratory study addresses the issue of need for respite from two perspectives. Within an urban Canadian center, focused interviews were conducted with a sample of family caregivers in high risk situations. Case scenario questionnaires were distributed and focused interviews conducted with Long Term Care case Managers, content analysis was used to identify themes and issues from all data sources. The themes and categories that emerged from the data are discussed in relation to a system stimulation model and locus of control perspective as applied to understanding need and establishing program objectives and delivery patterns. Implications for needs assessments, program design, intervention, and future research are presented.

Streszczenie:
The policy decisions of the 1990's were designed to maximise the potential for older people to remain in their homes for as long as possible and to prevent unnecessary admission to hospital. The NHS and Care in the Community Act (1990) created the role of care management within Social Work (in Scotland) which made it necessary for district nurses to artificially separate the health and social care needs of older people. Whilst health care remained free at the point of delivery, social care was chargeable so the decisions taken by district nurses had implications for the care older people subsequently received. This study was set in an NHS Trust in Scotland and considered how district nurses constructed health and social need when assessing the care needs of older people. Following a pilot study, the main study was undertaken in two phases. The first phase profiled caseload data from 23 district nurses which was used to inform the researcher of current trends in decision making and to purposefully select nurses to interview. A Grounded theory approach was used to undertake 16 in depth interviews until a saturation point was reached and no new data emerged. Following detailed analysis based upon the method described by Strauss and Corbin (1990), core categories of context, gerontological knowledge and personal values emerged to inform the theory of how district nurses construct need. The contribution to new knowledge in this area includes an addition to the theoretical understanding of care delivery. The study has identified the key role played by the assessment of risk and the appraisal of family support. Gerontological knowledge and personal values have been shown to be central to both the assessment of risk, and the appraisal of family support. The study has also identified strategies used by district nurses to manage their workload, some based upon a rational response to the management of work and others. including the avoidance of less popular patients and carers, which are open to question The only area of district nursing care where the delivery of both health and social care is uncontested, is where patients are terminally ill

Streszczenie:
There are numerous empirically described problems of communication in healthcare. The doctor/patient relationship is fundamental to many such problems. The changing nature of healthcare and the doctor/patient relationship is explored in this thesis. An increasing evidence base demonstrates that patient outcomes in healthcarea re directly relatedt o clinical communication. However, more fundamental than patient outcomes is the very nature of personhood and the effects illness has on individual autonomy. A theory of human need provides the foundation for discussion. Autonomy in healthcare is discussed in these terms and is argued as a basic human need. Moreover, human communication is argued as a basic human need using the same theoretic approach. It therefore follows logically that health professionals have the same duties and responsibilities to meet basic human communication needs on the same terms as those for autonomy. The relationship between autonomy and communication is shown to be a reflexive one. A theory of democratic communication is drawn on to describe the type of communication that will meet autonomy and communication needs. This is set in the context of healthcare. Consent in healthcare is used to show how far we have come in meeting communication and autonomy needs. Given the arguments o far it is reasonable to expect medical education to respond to the changing and recognised needs of the users of healthcare. The role of effective communication in medical education programmes is explored. Finally, a strategic approach to organising and delivering a communication curriculum is proffered which tries to meet both the philosophically and democratically argued basic needs. The resulting communication curriculum combines theoretic foundations with a pragmatic approach to the problems of clinical practice. If the approaches in this thesis are followed then communication can no longer be perceived as something doctors do after they have completed other medical tasks. Effective doctors have to be effective communicators in order to meet patients' needs.

This thesis applies network theory to firms, their employees, and various aspects of the employees to understand diversity within an industry at both the firm-level and employee-level. We hypothesize that the interest diversity of a firms' employee can influence that firm's economic performance and growth. Using the LinkedIn API, we are able to collect ~600 employees (past and present) for 43 companies using a keyword search. This data is used to create a visualization of people's interests, an "Interest Space", which is a network graph of how interests are categorized and linked to each other. By analyzing the data from firms associated with the Media Lab, we begin to understand how individual interests affect success among a small network of companies. We research this through case studies of a few companies by analyzing their financial data and interests of their employees.

It is proved that the development of any society or organization is determined primarily by the cultural level of its citizens or members, which is explained by the presence of common goals, values in relation to themselves and the environment, principles and approaches to everyday tasks. In this regard, the importance of the organization's culture is increasingly taken into account in the management of the enterprise. At the same time, it is assumed that the continuous improvement of the level of culture in the enterprise leads to a comprehensive improvement in the quality of activities and reduce costs. Of course, the formation of the culture of any organization, in particular its management culture, is significantly influenced by national culture and local territorial subculture or subcultures under the influence of which is the formation of basic life values and priorities of the local population and so on. Thus, in particular, under the influence of national culture and local subcultures, a national management stereotype of the whole country and a certain area is formed, which is created as a result of long historical formation of an organic approach to organization and management, a priori representation of individuals management activities can be carried out, what it is aimed at, how the worker is integrated in the organization, what place is given to him in it, and so on.

Streszczenie:
This study considers the labor organization of a group of northern Kenyan pastoralists. Since 1960, the Samburu have experienced substantial cattle loss and land circumscription and the work focuses both on herding and non-herding labor responses to a changing regional economy. The viability of Samburu pastoralism rests on specific labor forms which permit intensified production and economic diversification.
Based on twenty-four months of fieldwork, primarily during the 1983-84 drought, the study emphasizes the interplay between the social and technical organization of labor. Social institutions of descent and age guide natural resource and delineate work roles, while encouraging the varied forms of cooperation which greatly extend the family workforce. The diversity of technical strategies, which are strongly shaped by cultural preferences, contrasts with the paucity of production materials.
Several key findings have applicability to a range of pastoral locales, particularly proof of the positive relationship between labor input and animal output and of the higher efficiency of labor in larger versus smaller-scale herding units only under stable production conditions. Further, the quantitative material on dry season versus drought labor use as well as evidence for differential livestock survival rates represent unique accounts in themselves.
Beyond insights into pastoralism, however, the analysis is structured so as to contribute to several important issues in small-scale rural production. The accounts of the interconnection of technology and social forms and of the integration of "on-farm" and "off-farm" enterprise have implications for defining the scope of any labor investigation. The discussions of the terms "labor" and "technology" pose wider questions of the content of such basic concepts. Finally, the methodological discourse on labor measurement should assist those similarly trying to distinguish between "use" and "demand" in predominantly noncapitalist societies.

Streszczenie:
The aim of this study is to perform a baseline energy survey to understand the existing energy demand and usepattern and to verify the feasibility of a small scale poly-generation project supported by renewable sources ofenergy (biogas based) in a rural area of Bangladesh. A poly-generation solution shall provide multiple outputservices of clean gas, electricity and arsenic free water supply. The project requires using animal dung oragricultural waste to produce biogas and electric energy. The study has analyzed the demand of domesticenergy and water of the village named ‘Matipukur’ in the Jessore district in Bangladesh. The study alsoconsidered available biomass feedstock and energy potential surrounding the village area, as well as the socioeconomicstatus of villagers. The case study included a door to door survey to collect relevant information.Three different economic groups in terms of income scale were investigated throughout the study to obtainbetter insight of the energy-water access situation, requirements and related problems in the village. Almost 98% household of this village relies on biomass for energy due to limited access of modern fuel. Thevillage has various biomass potential in the form of animal dung, fuel wood and agricultural waste which can beused for cooking or serve as the basis for other energy carriers. Kerosene is used for lighting. Among thedifferent fuels, dung meets about 44% of the total demand. The contribution of other fuels for domestic use is24% firewood, 22% agricultural waste, and 2% kerosene. The analytical observation found that the annualaverage energy demand of the village is 8.45 GJ per capita. The share of average demand for cooking and3lighting energy is 8.24 GJ per person/year and 0.21 GJ per person/year respectively. The energy consumptionvaries within different income groups. This study has examined the income per capita, family size, education, agricultural land holding per capita, priorities of their annual expenditure etc. which have direct influence onthe fuel consumption pattern of the household. It could be observed that expenses on energy changes as theincome level increases. About awareness of biogas opportunities and willingness to provide feedstock for apoly generation project, the majority of households answered positively, that is, indicating that they wouldcontribute. Educated respondents showed more positive attitude. Regarding changing of traditional cooking, about 95% of the respondents want to change to a more efficient and reliable cooking system to avoid healthand environmental problems associated with indoor biomass cooking. The study has revealed that only cow dung is not enough to produce clean energy according to demand so theco-digestion method is considered to producing biogas from various energy potentials (animal manure &agricultural waste). The poly-generation system could work with the scenario providing electricity and watersupply for the entire household and cooking gas is limited only for 2/3rd household. Rest 1/3rd household fromlow income group then could be supplied with improve cook stove to meet their daily cooking demand and tominimize indoor pollutions. It is observed that, majority of household has expressed their willingness toprovide raw materials for poly-generation plant though they are using.

In this age of overwhelming technological innovation, organizations expect better prospectus and strategy for improving business in their own specific areas of interest. Organizations want to open new horizons by developing new communication techniques for communicating with their clients. With this step, they want to reduce the communication barrier between their clients and the organization itself. In future, organizations will use improved techniques for getting connected with their clients. When we talk about an educational organization it becomes very important for an educational institution to communicate with their students. The educational organizations have improved a lot in providing services to their students. But, there is lots of work to be done in the field of connecting the students with the educational institutions. If there is a good means of communication between students and the organization then there would be more scope for the aspiring students to join the institution. If an educational organization develops a medium for better communication with their students, that will help the university in finding new relations with aspiring students. In my thesis, I will explore the frameworks used in an educational setting using Enterprise Resource Planning model in developing Student community portal. Enterprise Resource Planning is used to integrate all the modules of the community portal, to maintain integrity of the system. I will also find the requirements that are necessary for developing such interactive system. This investigation will be helpful for developing a Student community portal; it helps to know about the services provided by the educational organization and for mutual communication in the student community. By this approach, it becomes very easy for a two way communication between the university and Student community. This will help to develop a framework and creates Design Pattern Architecture for the development of interactive system for student community in educational organizations.

Streszczenie:
This project investigates how the American musical reflected and engaged with key economic, social and political events and trends in order to sustain itself as a profitable, commercial form, from the late 1950s through to the late 1980s. Beginning with an examination of West Side Story (1957) as a reaction to a changing post-war American society and an entertainment industry in transition, this project positions the musical as an enduring form of popular culture which found continual success by embedding itself in the conditions of its production. The Civil Rights movement, Vietnam War, feminism and globalization are just some of the issues and events which the Broadway musical engaged with to create emotional moments for audiences to experience. This project explores the complexities of these relationships between the musical and its social and political context, to suggest it was by pursuing and navigating the events and issues dominating the United States in the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s that the musical was able to maintain its commerciality, continuing to be manufactured for consumption today. Drawing on analysis of songs, libretti, media coverage and advertising, each chapter in this thesis contextualizes a set of landmark musicals within a particular social or political issue to ask how authors, producers and audiences sustained this commercial form. It will conclude with a discussion of the British invasion of Broadway, in particular of the last major musical of the invasion period, Miss Saigon (1991). With its opening and immediate success, the making and marketing of the Broadway musical had clearly shifted into being a global rather than exclusively American commercial venture.

The world has experienced a tremendous growth in its elderly population. With the aging of the population, policy makers are concerned about the health of these elderly as well as their utilization of health care and social services and perceived need for additional services. The Canadian elderly population is similar to other elderly populations in that a few tend to be the heaviest users of the available services. The predictors of this utilization behavior and perceived need primarily include need variables, such as the number of limitations of daily living -- both ADLs and IADLs, and functional limitations. In addition, enabling variables, such as income, work activity and geographic region of residence were also found to be significant.

Title: If the company is good, people need to know it   Authors: Emma Filipsson, Joakim Ahlmén & Oskar Bloom   Tutor: Dan Halvarsson   Keywords: Employer brand, market communication, associations, attractiveness, potential employees.     Background: The image of an employer brand gives a result of what attractiveness the employer has. Depending of how the associations are too an employer will shape the image and the market communication could be used as a tool to affect the potential employees perception of an employer brand.   Purpose: The purpose of the study is create understanding about how the market communication affects the attractiveness of an employer.   Method: The study is qualitative with a constructionist position and a hermeneutic view. 13 semi-structured interview were made and a company was used as an example to enable a concrete relationship between the employer brand and the market communication. The sample was last year university students that later became potential employees.     Empirical data: The empirical data is a summary of the 13 interviews that were conducted               and where different aspects are presented.   Conclusion: When the internal and external market communication within a company do not conform a gap is created. The larger the gap is the less attractive potential workers perceive an employer. The internal market communication is most reliable and to create positive associations companies have to work with the internal communication and let the external market communication confirm what the internal communicates.

Streszczenie:
This thesis explores the experiences of permanently excluded children and young people (CYP) from the perspective of Self-Determination Theory (SDT) and the concept of the Basic Psychological Needs (BPNs). CYP who had experienced permanent exclusion from school were interviewed in order to explore how their BPN for Autonomy, Competence and Relatedness were perceived to have been satisfied or limited across three contexts: previous mainstream provision, current provision and outside of school. A thematic analysis of transcribed interview data was conducted and the role of BPN satisfaction in relation to the experience of permanent exclusion was explored. The experiences and perspectives expressed by participants suggested a range of social-contextual supports and limitations for BPNs across contexts. In line with existing SDT-based research, the findings suggest that participants’ experiences of reduced engagement, motivation, performance and well-being were associated with situations, events and relationships which were perceived to be limiting to BPNs. Where BPNs were perceived to have been supported, participants’ responses indicated increased engagement, autonomous motivation, performance and wellbeing. The researcher suggests that further research into the BPN satisfaction in schools is needed, including further qualitative exploration of the experiences of our most vulnerable and hard to reach CYP. Possible implications for teacher training, school management and the delivery of Educational Psychology (EP) services are discussed.

MacDonald, Ian. "Identity development of people with learning difficulties through the recognition of work". Thesis, Brunel University, 1990. http://bura.brunel.ac.uk/handle/2438/1366.

Pełny tekst źródła
Streszczenie:
This thesis examines the development of identity of people with learning difficulties. It concentrates on an aspect which has hitherto not received significant attention, that is the importance of recognition of work in the developmental process. In order to do this the thesis defines work in a particular way, based on the work of E Jaques. It defines work in terms of the decision making process which leads to an external transformation of the world. It is the recognition of this transformation by another person which affirms the actor and enhances a sense of self. For this recognition to be effective, i.e. help in the development of identity, the thesis argues that it is critical to understand the way in which a person constructs their world and links intention with action. A general model is offered to describe this process whereby the person moves from a subjective construction of the world (a world of subjective discontinuity) to one which can be understood by others (interactive discontinuity). Although the model can be applied generally the thesis examines problems faced by people with learning difficulties due to their relatively limited intellectual ability, communication skills and not least the particular social context in which many have lived, i.e. institutional care. The thesis begins by examining the problem of the appropriate social role for such people given the current intention to allow each person to develop to their full potential. This involves a discussion of social policy leading to a consideration of institutionalisation and its alternatives. Then the model of identity development is presented in terms both general and specific to people with learning difficulties. In the context of methods of assessment a particular form of assessment, The Chart of Initiative and Independence, is considered in the light of the main thesis of identity development. Its subsequent use is then analysed and compared with other approaches in different settings. The thesis concludes by appreciating the limitations of both the model of identity development and the C.I.I, and considering complementary approaches whilst underlining the significance of recognition of work in any setting.

Streszczenie:
This research explored the thesis that organizational personality is related to applicants’ attraction to an organization through a process which involves need motivation, expectancy beliefs, and applicants’ perceptions of person-organization fit. Organizational personality may be defined as a collection of trait-like characteristics that individuals use to describe organizational practices, policies, values, and culture. Specifically, this research investigated the hypothesis that organizational personality information is useful to applicants because it helps individuals to determine their perceptions of fit. A sample of students (N = 198) and working adults (N = 198) participated in an online experiment. Findings indicated that individuals’ beliefs about the instrumentality of desirable work related outcomes are essential to determining their perceptions of fit and organizational attraction. Additionally, organizational personality perceptions interacted with need motivation to affect perceptions of fit and organizational attraction. For instance, perceptions of fit mediated the influence of the interaction between need for achievement and perceptions of innovativeness on organizational attraction. The interaction of need motivation and perceptions of organizational personality helped individuals to better determine their perceptions of fit and subsequent attraction toward organizations.

Smith, Susan Elizabeth. "The need for leadership : the impact of health action plans for people with learning disabilities living in England". Thesis, Manchester Metropolitan University, 2012. http://e-space.mmu.ac.uk/324233/.

Pełny tekst źródła
Streszczenie:
This thesis reports on the impact of the introduction of health action plans in learning disability services in England between 2001 and 2007. The research compares the experience of a learning disability service in the North West of England to the national position. A mixed methodology was adopted. Firstly the experience of health facilitators nationally was examined using a self administered questionnaire to gather a mix of qualitative and quantitative data. Two local focus groups were then held with local health facilitators. A further focus group was held for people with learning disabilities who had a health action plan. The overall finding was that leadership was a crucial factor in determining the success of policy implementation. Health facilitators identified that they were not always prepared in the role of undertaking health action plans. Training was most likely to be offered to non nursing staff, but nurses themselves identified that they did require training as this was, in most cases a new and additional part of their role. Furthermore, contradictions in roles often hindered the health action plan process for nurses. Differences between areas of the country included experience of training; methods of introduction of health action plans; people responsible for the health action plan; and eligibility for a plan. The monitoring and audit of health action plans was also sporadic and there was considerable difference in relation to what constituted a plan. Several key themes emerged from the research. Health facilitators commented that health improvements had been identified through the use of health action plans, with more improvements being noted where health screening had informed the process. Other benefits of the health action plan included improved communication with the person with a learning disability, between professionals and carers and between carers and families. Local practice mirrored that identified nationally, with good examples provided of improved health for people with learning disabilities and cooperation with some primary care professionals. In conclusion, the thesis identifies that there has been good practice in the implementation of health action plans and some evidence to suggest that they have helped improve health. Some practice, however, has been less positive and it is argued in the thesis that better leadership, more informed guidance, training and support would have maximised the benefits of the policy.

Menih, Helena. "“People Need to Understand Why We are Who We are”: An Ethnographic Study of Homeless Women in Brisbane". Thesis, Griffith University, 2015. http://hdl.handle.net/10072/366020.

Streszczenie:
Recent statistical information suggests that the numbers of homeless women in Australia are growing. Due to the increase of female homelessness, the Department of Housing, Families, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs (2008) published a White Paper where they emphasise two main aims: first, to halve homelessness by 2020, and second to offer supported accommodation to all rough sleepers who need it. For this to be achieved, the issues homeless women experience need to be explored and addressed. Little is known about the experiences of, and the meanings attached to, homelessness for women. While there has been an increase in the research undertaken in the field of homelessness in recent years, these examinations not only lack a qualitative dimension, they also tend to be ‘gender-blind’. This thesis, through the analysis of ethnographic data, explores the role of gender and space in the lives of homeless women in Brisbane, Australia. The research employed a grounded theory approach and was guided by the theoretical considerations of gender relations, gender identity and gendered spatiality. This thesis gives voice to the many homeless women of Brisbane. The research upon which the thesis is based involved over ten months of intensive fieldwork on the streets of Brisbane. Data were generated through life history interviews and observation and participation in the field. The findings suggest that, for homeless women (whose biographies include stories of previously abusive home lives and disadvantage) the notion of ‘being’ homeless encompasses much more than the risky reality of life on the street.
