To evaluate the periodic deworming programme (PDP) against soil-transmitted helminth infection and estimate the cost-benefit of this action in a Northeastern Brazilian State. An observational descriptive study was peformed by two branches: an epidemiological analysis of parasitological stool tests positivity in the 7 health micro-regions of Sergipe State, from January to June 2019, and a cost-benefitial analysis through comparison between estimated costs of PDP and conventional diagnose and treatment method from 2014 to 2018. From the 1110 parasitological stool tests evaluated, 317 were positive: 20 (1.8 %) for helminths and 307 (26.7%) for protozoan parasites. Among positive tests, 61 (19.2%) were in PDP age target group (5-14 years). An annual average of 255,283 Albendazole tablets (400mg, single dose) were distributed with an annual average coverage rate of 84.2%. To support the programme, approximately R$ 281,859.25 (US$ 89,775.67) were transferred per year to the state of Sergipe. PDP estimated cost-effectiveness was R$ 1.10 (US$ 0.34) per event prevented and generated a cost-minimization of approximately R$ 335.617,60 (US$124,568.00) when compared to the conventional diagnose and treat method. The positive rates of soil-transmitted helminth infection in parasitological tests in Sergipe were low and the recommendation for PDP seems to be currently inadequate. Most positive tests were for commensal protozoa species. PDP estimated cost is lower than conventional diagnose and treatment method. Protozoa infections prevention policies should be evaluated as they are the major parasitic infection in our community after PDP.

In digital system, the full adders are fundamental circuits that are used for arithmetic operations. Adder operation can be used to implement and perform calculation of the multipliers, subtraction, comparators, and address operation in an Arithmetic Logic Unit (ALU). The subthreshold leakage current increasing as proportional with the scaling down of oxide thickness and transistor in short channel sizes. In this paper, a Gate-diffusion Input (GDI) circuit design technique allow minimization the number of transistor while maintaining low complexity of logic design and low power realization of Variable Body Biasing (VBB) technique to reduce the static power consumption. The Silterra 90nm process design kit (PDK) was used to design 8-bit full adder with VBB technique in full custom methodology by using Synopsys Electronic Design Automation (EDA) tools. The simulation of 8-bit full adder was compared within a conventional bias technique and VBB technique with operating voltage of supply. The result showed the reduction of VBB technique in term of peak power, and average power, compare with conventional bias technique. Moreover, the Power Delay Product (PDP) showed 1.29pJ in VBB technique compare with conventional bias mode 1.67pJ. The area size of 8-Bit full adder was 10μm×23μm.

We considered the problem of minimization of vectors of curvilinear functionals (well known as mechanical work), thought as multitime multiobjective variational problems, subject to PDE and/or PDI constraints. Within this framework, we introduced necessary optimality conditions. As natural continuation of these results, the present work introduces a study of sufficient efficiency conditions.

The crystal structure of the organic pigment 2-monomethyl-quinacridone (Pigment Red 192, C21H14N2O2) was solved from X-ray powder diffraction data. The resulting average structure is described in space group P\overline 1, Z = 1 with the molecule on the inversion centre. The molecules are arranged in chains. The molecules, which have no inversion symmetry, show orientational head-to-tail disorder. In the average structure, the methyl group is disordered and found on both ends of the molecule with an occupancy of 0.5 each. The disorder and the local structure were investigated using various ordered structural models. All models were analysed by three approaches: Rietveld refinement, structure refinement to the pair distribution function (PDF) and lattice-energy minimization. All refinements converged well. The Rietveld refinement provided the average structure and gave no indication of a long-range ordering. The refinement to the PDF turned out to be very sensitive to small structural details, giving insight into the local structure. The lattice-energy minimizations revealed a significantly preferred local ordering of neighbouring molecules along the [0\bar 11] direction. In conclusion, all methods indicate a statistical orientational disorder with a preferred parallel orientation of molecules in one direction. Additionally, electron diffraction revealed twinning and faint diffuse scattering.

Group sparse residual constraint with non-local priors (GSRC) has achieved great success in image restoration producing state-of-the-art performance. In the GSRC model, the [see formula in PDF] norm minimization is employed to reduce the group sparse residual. In recent years, non-convex regularization terms have been widely used in image denoising problems, which have achieved better results in denoising than convex regularization terms. In this paper, we use the ratio of the [see formula in PDF] and [see formula in PDF] norm instead of the [see formula in PDF] norm to propose a new image denoising model, i.e., a group sparse residual constraint model with [see formula in PDF] minimization (GSRC-[see formula in PDF]). Due to the computational difficulties arisen from the non-convexity and non-linearity, we focus on a constrained optimization problem that can be solved by alternative direction method of multipliers (ADMM). Experimental results of image denoising show that the pro-posed model outperforms several state-of-the-art image denoising methods both visually and quantitatively.

We consider a problem of minimization of a hedging error, measured by a positive convex random function, in an incomplete financial market model, where the dynamics of asset prices is given by an Rd-valued continuous semimartingale. Under some regularity assumptions we derive a backward stochastic PDE for the value function of the problem and show that the strategy is optimal if and only if the corresponding wealth process satisfies a certain forward-SDE. As an example the case of mean-variance hedging is considered.

Medications Dexamethasone, Remdesivir or Colchicine, used to treat COVID-19 patients, have significant interactions with other medications and the human genome. The study presented in this paper investigates how to use the Personalized Medicine Therapy Optimization Method (PM-TOM) to minimize these interactions in polypharmacy therapies of COVID-19 patients. We applied PM-TOM on the EMR database of Harvard Personal Genome Project (PGP), drug database DrugBank and Comprehensive Toxicogenomics Database (CTD) to analyze polypharmacy therapies augmented with these medications. The main finding is that these COVID-19 medications significantly increase the drug and gene interactions in partially optimized (or unoptimized) therapies, which is not the case in the fully optimized ones. For example, the test results show that in polypharmacy treatments for patients having between 3 and 8 conditions, the average number of drug and gene interactions in partially optimized therapies ranges from 3 to 18 after adding Remdesivir, 4.3 to 20 Colchicine, and 4.7 to 23 Dexamethasone. On the other hand, these interactions in fully optimized therapies range only 0.6 to 5.2, 1.2 to 7, and 2.7 to 11, respectively. These results suggest that polypharmacy therapies should be carefully examined before adding these medications. This recommendation applies to all other situations when polypharmacy patients may conduct new serious conditions, such as COVID-19, requiring additional medications with a high number of drug and gene interactions.

Abstract We apply a total variation minimization technique for two tasks in image processing: denoising, which is the reconstruction of an image from noisy observations of the image; and deblurring, which is the reconstruction of an image which is convolved with a smooth kernel function and then contaminated with error. Total Variation minimization yields a nonlinear elliptic partial differential equation (PDE). In this paper we discuss numerical techniques for the efficient solution of this PDE.

Patellofemoral Pain (PFP) syndrome is a very common knee disorder. A possible cause may be excessive lateral force applied by the quadriceps and the patellar tendon producing an abnormal distribution of force and pressure within the patellofemoral joint [1]. EMG and in-vivo studies have been conducted to understand the function of the quadriceps and its relationship with PFP [2,3]. These studies suggest a strong relationship between muscle forces and PFP which originates from high lateral retropatellar contact forces. A dynamic computational model of the knee was developed which includes the quadriceps muscles Rectus Femoris (RF), Vastus Intermedius (VI), Vastus Lateralis (VL), and Vastus Medialis (VM) represented as force vectors. The model can predict retro-patellar contact pressures and the action of the individual quadriceps muscles based on the predicted pressures. The objective of this study was to develop a control system which could optimize the distribution of quadriceps muscle forces to minimize contact pressure between the patella and the femur of the knee during a squat.

Thermal optimization of a stack of printed circuit boards using entropy generation minimization (EGM) method is presented. The study consists of two parts. One is focused on the entropy generation of a module in periodically fully-developed channel flow (PDF), while the other is the optimization applied to electronic packages composed of a stack of printed circuit boards. In the process of optimizing electronics packaging, consideration is given to two constraints which are the maximum junction temperature specified by a chip manufacturer and the allowable pressure difference across the channel maintained by cooling fans. The Reynolds number, block geometry and bypass flow area ratio are varied to search for an optimal channel spacing using the EGM method whose validity is borne out by comparing with those obtained by the conventional thermal optimization (or overall thermal conductance) method. A dimensionless optimal board spacing parameter C is derived which involves the relative migration speed (or time) of heat transfer and viscous friction over the PDF channel length. A correlation equation is derived which expresses C in terms of the Reynolds number and block geometry. This equation can be employed in the optimal design of electronic packages.

Hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs) represent one of the main technological options for reducing vehicle CO2 emissions, helping car manufacturers (OEMs) to meet the stricter targets which are set by the European Green Deal for new passenger cars at 80 g CO2/km by 2025. The optimal power-split between the internal combustion engine (ICE) and the electric motor is a challenge since it depends on many unpredictable variables. In fact, HEV improvements in fuel economy and emissions strongly depend on the energy management strategy (EMS) on-board of the vehicle. Dynamic Programming approach (DP), direct methods and Pontryagin’s minimum principle (PMP) are some of the most used methodologies to optimize the HEV power-split. In this paper two online strategies are evaluated: an Adaptive-RuleBased (A-RB) and an Adaptive-Equivalent Consumption Minimization Strategy (A-ECMS). At first, a description of the P2 HEV model is made. Second, the two sub-optimal strategies are described in detail and then implemented on the HEV model to derive the fuel-optimal control strategy managing the power split between the thermal and electric engine to satisfy the driver's power request, including the engine on/off operating mode and the best gear selection. Finally, the two proposed strategies are tested on different driving cycles and then compared to other commercial strategies available in literature, such as the Equivalent Consumption Minimization Strategy (ECMS) and a RuleBased (RB) strategy. The results show that the A-ECMS is more conservative in terms of state of charge (SoC) compared to the A-RB. In fact, in the A-ECMS the SoC is always within the admissible range with considerable margin from the upper and lower limits for tested cycles, while in the A-RB a deep discharge of the battery is allowed. This behavior leads to a better fuel consumption of the A-RB compared to the A-ECMS, both in the WLTC and in the FTP-75 cycle.
