Transport infrastructure and human development coexist in a non-linear relationship. The concept of structural and infrastructural development of society is the first attempt at theoretical justification of this interaction. Particular attention is paid to the study of approaches to the definition of the concepts of "infrastructure", "transport infrastructure", "human development"; analysis of the mechanisms of influence of transport infrastructure on human development and mechanisms of reverse impact; understanding the role of pricing processes in this interaction. Further development of the presented issue can become the basis for a macroeconomic analysis of the "transport infrastructure - human development" ex ante relationship. Methods and models of optimization of solutions under many criteria are considered, which are conditioned by modern tasks to improve the operation of supply chains and logistics systems. Attention is paid to their specifics in relation to the tasks of organizing transport supply support. The anomalous phenomena of "blindness" to the indicators of individual particular criteria and the phenomena of "blocking" the choice of alternatives when optimizing such systems are analyzed. Special modifications of traditional selection criteria for optimization are presented, allowing to eliminate these phenomena in order to more effectively adapt the selected best solution to the preferences of the decision-maker. The analysis of filtering possibilities of the initially specified alternatives is given so that optimization procedures can be implemented in real time. Meets the requirements of the federal state educational standards of higher education of the latest generation. For students of institutions of higher education. It can be useful for graduate students, logisticians and entrepreneurs who want to organize their business more efficiently.

The previous Chapter presented a discussion of the notion of local and global equilibria and shown that these equilibria represent the special forms taken by the distribution function once direct and inverse collisions come into balance. This Chapter provides an elementary introduction to transport phenomena and discusses their intimate relation to non-equilibrium processes at the microscopic scale. In particular it shall deal with the connection between the transport coefficients, such as mass, momentum and energy diffusivity with the molecular mean free path, namely the distance traveled by a representative molecules between two subsequent collisions. The discussion also highlights the fundamental role of inhomogeneity in fueling non-equilibrium processes.

This article discusses the structural, electronic, magnetic, and transport properties of carbon-fullerene-based polymers. In particular, it examines the defect-induced ferromagnetism of the C60-based polymers and its analog in the case of non-traditional inorganic materials. It first reviews the computational methods currently used in the literature, highlighting the pros and cons of each one of them. It then considers the defects associated with the ferromagnetism of the C60-based polymers, namely carbon vacancies, the 2 + 2 cycloaddition bonds and impurity atoms, and their effect on the electronic structure. It also evaluates the effect of codoping and goes on to describe the electronic, magnetic and transport properties of the rhombohedral C60-polymer. Finally, it looks at the origin of magnetic coupling among the magnetic moments in the rhombohedral C60-polymer and provides further evidence for the analogy between the magnetism of the rhombohedral C60-polymer and zinc oxide.

This monograph deals with the importance of the components of transport accessibility in the city of Szczecin, north-western Poland, over the period 2009-2018, with particular attention to public transport. The study uses census districts to look at the accessibility of a range of destinations by both public and private (car) means of transport in 2018 and adds three other years, 2009, 2012 and 2015, for public transport alone. The empirical part of the study involved statistical methods and specific points in time in 2018, including date, hour and minute. The specific metrics used for the static data about each destination included: shortest distance, percentage of the population, cumulative accessibility, potential accessibility, potential quotient, and for the final outcome, a synthetic ranking metric with data standardisation. The dynamic part of the empirical research covers the entire study period, i.e. 2009-2018, supplemented by data on single days running from 5:00am to 10:00 pm. For the longer of the periods, the method of potential accessibility to population was used. The choice of methodology involved a review of various GIS tools and their applicability to city-wide accessibility research, including text format data (GTFS) covering several years. Each of the research methods employed was assessed for its impact on the individual components of transport.

This chapter examines the construction of vehicular space in Latin literary texts, identifying two significant aspects of Roman transport’s representation. First is the set-piece depiction of roadway encounters, articulated as a physical run-in of wayfarers with clashing modes of transport. Although the moralizing thrust of such portraits is to inveigh against lavish transportation while extolling simple travel, their more powerful function is to assert the ability of (particular) mobile parties to transcend transit’s physicality. Second is such scenes’ frequent problematization of physical agency, drivers and passengers being caught between demeaning hands-on participation in travel’s means and excessively passive forms of conveyance. The aim throughout is to move beyond a view of such articulations as merely diatribes against luxurious travel, and to excavate how the underlying instrumentality of transportation—its emphatic ‘by-way-of-ness’—is rhetorically constituted, and indeed a vital part of the Roman production of space.

This chapter makes a selection of the issues that are deemed to be the most important from the perspective of transnational commercial law, focusing mainly on the issues related to carrier's liability and transport documents. The main focus is on the transport documents which represent a connecting point between carriage of goods and international trade. Particular attention is given to historical development as it facilitates an understanding of the modern law governing carriage by sea. The chapter provides an overview of international instruments governing carriage by sea also pointing out some discrepancies between these instruments and instruments governing international sales and letters of credit. Selected issues covered by this chapter include identity of the carrier, clean bills of lading, the legal effects of the transfer of negotiable documents, delivery of the goods, and stoppage in transit. The chapter concludes by discussing new types of transport documents, such as sea waybills and electronic transport records.

This article considers the connections between product measures and stationary processes. It first provides an overview of historical facts and relevant terminology, basic concepts and the mathematical approach. In particular, it discusses random measures, the projection-valued spectral measure (PVSM), convolution products, and the association between shift operators and PVSMs. It then presents the main results and their first potential applications, focusing on stochastic integrals, the image of a random measure under measurable mapping, the existence of a transport-type theorem, and the transpose of a continuous homomorphism between groups. It also describes the PVSM associated with a unitary operator, the convolution product of two PVSMs, the unitary operators generated by a PVSM, extension of the convolution product of two PVSMs, an equation where the unknown quantity is a PVSM, and the convolution product of two random measures. The article concludes with an analysis of mathematical developments related to the previous results.

Amino acids present in the different biological fluids belong to two groups: the protein group, with the 21 classical amino acids constituting the backbone of the protein, and the nonprotein group, appearing in different metabolic pathways as intermediate metabolites. It is important to know and to be able to recognize the latter, as they are the markers of many inherited metabolic diseases. Three kinds of pathways must be considered: the catabolic pathways, the synthesis pathways, and the transport pathways. A disorder on a catabolic pathway induces an increase of all metabolites upstream and so an increase of the starting amino acid in all fluids. Any disorder on the synthetic pathway of a particular amino acid will induce a decrease of this amino acid in all fluids. When a transporter is located on a plasma membrane, its deficiency will result in normal or low concentration in plasma concomitant to a high excretion in urine.

This article examines magnetoresistive phenomena in nano- and atomic-size ferromagnetic metal contacts. In particular, it considers how magnetization affects the flow of electrical current in ferromagnetic materials by focusing on two major categories of magnetoresistive phenomena: the ‘spin-valve’, where the flow of spin-polarized electrical current is affected by an inhomogeneous magnetization profile, and anisotropic magnetoresistance (AMR), which involves the anisotropy of electrical transport properties with respect to the orientation of the magnetization. The article first provides an overview of ballistic transport and conductance quantization before discussing domain-wall magnetoresistance at the nanoscale. It also describes AMR in magnetic nanocontacts as well as tunnelling anisotropic magnetoresistance in broken contacts.

It first considers the key features of self-assembled and self-organized nanoparticle arrays, focusing on the self-assembly of nanoparticle superlattices, the use of biorecognition for nanoparticle assembly, and self-organizing nanoparticles. It then describes the mechanisms and pathways for charge transport in nanoparticle assemblies, with particular emphasis on the relationship between the current–voltage characteristics and the topology of the lattice. It also discusses single-electron conduction in nanoparticle films as well as pattern formation and self-organization in dewetting nanofluids.

It then critically reviews two thematic literatures, on African cities and on their informal economies, to reveal that references to chaos, dystopia, and their opposites, order and functionalism, are common. The key argument is that a highly contextual understanding of urban informality and of how African cities work is required to avoid overly deterministic structural accounts and romantic celebration of African agency without due attention to structural constraints. The chapter presents the book’s approach: namely a political-economy analysis, centred on class analysis and wary of automatically reading off the political interests of actors from their class position. It argues that neoliberalism and post-socialism are key to understanding Tanzania and public transport in Dar es Salaam, and calls for grounding ‘actually existing neoliberalism’ in a particular context while retaining the analytical power of the concept of neoliberalism.
