Streszczenie:
Athletes have multiple motivations for sport participation that can wax and wane over time, particularly over a lifetime of sport participation. The purpose of this chapter is to explore a plethora of atheoretical research examining why athletes compete in disability sport. The many reasons that athletes with disabilities cite for sport engagement are similar to those of able-bodied athletes. However, there are also reasons that are unique to a person’s impairment. People with disabilities often have chronic pain, so physical activity via sport can help with pain management. People with disabilities have less extensive social networks than able-bodied people so sport can be an attractive vehicle for making social connections. People with disabilities struggle more with activities of daily living (ADL), so the strength and endurance obtained through sport can be helpful in everyday life and performing ADLs. In general, motivations for sport participation are more intrinsic than extrinsic.

Streszczenie:
Just like the ‘theory’ of interactivity, also that of participation can be seen as one of the key theoretical foes of the theory of interpassivity. It can be demonstrated that these (at their respective times) highly fashionable yet little explicative theories do not contribute to a better understanding of the artistic practices they claim to describe. Rather, they have to be seen as ‘spontaneous philosophies’ (in the sense coined by Louis Althusser): due to their unquestioned philosophical premises, they form epistemological obstacles to a proper understanding of contemporary artistic practice. And such a failure can backfire: artists who start believing in what these theories say about their art are in danger to misrecognize its key points and, accordingly, to produce weaker works in the future.

Streszczenie:
At the time of writing, politics within Scotland and the UK is experiencing a period of uncertainty, with issues such as Brexit, Scottish nationalism, the ‘refugee crisis’ and continued economic insecurity creating a complicated and unprecedented political climate. Scotland, for many, is considered to be expressing a distinctive politics to the rest ofthe UK (Mooney, 2013; McAngus, 2015), with the Scottish National Party (SNP) having strong representation in both the Scottish and UK Parliaments. With regard to the electorate, there is a sense that youngpeople in Scotland have recently become more politicised (Baxter et al., 2015; Hopkins, 2015), with sixteen- and seventeen-year-olds having been given the right to vote in the Scottish parliamentary elections and the 2014 independence referendum. This contests the frequent narrative that young people are politically apathetic (Kimberlee, 2002), and adds to a growing body of work that seeks to examine and unearth the varied and complex ways in which young people engage with political issues (Brookes and Hodkinson, 2008; O’Toole and Gale, 2013; Pilkington and Pollock, 2015).
