Abstract: The reproductive biology of 13 monoecious species of Begonia (Begoniaceae) that occur in the Serra do Mar State Park, São Paulo, Brazil, was investigated. The reproductive phenology of these species is annual and present flowers with white tepals with some variations, light and agreeable odor, present pollen as a reward, lack nectar, yellow reproductive elements, ample style/stigma and numerous stamens. Anthesis is diurnal and floral duration is long (6 - 15 days). The presence of numerous morphological similarities between staminate and pistillate flowers of these species supports the intersexual mimicry hypothesis. Of 11 species tested, none proved to be apomictic, despite high levels of fruit-set (77 - 88%) under natural conditions. Self-pollinations of B. integerrima and B. itatinensis produced no fruits or seeds, and the complete absence of pollen tubes in self-pollinated flowers of B. integerrima suggests that the species is genetically self-incompatible. Flowers pollinated under natural conditions showed many pollen tubes that reached ovules, suggesting that adequate numbers of compatible pollen grains were transported by pollinators. The principal pollinators were small bees of the Apidae and Halictidae. Ten species of bees were observed to visit eight species of Begonia, and pollen collection occurred by means of vibration, except for Trigona spinipes. Visits to rewarding staminate flowers were significantly more frequent than visits to unrewarding pistillate flowers. Duration of visits to pistillate flowers also were significantly shorter than the duration of visits to staminate flowers. We conclude that mistake visits to pistillate flowers, though relatively less frequent than visits to staminate flowers, occur by mistake but with sufficient frequency to allow for successful reproduction in natural populations of these species

Abstract: In this paper we describe the floristic composition and structure of 1ha of Tropical Mountain Moist Forest (Floresta Ombrófial Densa Montana/FODM) situated in Nucleo Santa Virgínia of the Serra do Mar State Park, based in trees with DBH ? 4,8 cm. We collected and identified 152 species, distributed among 80 genera and 41 families, within witch Myrtacaeae, Lauraceae, Fabaceae and Monimiaceae are the ones with higher number of species and Arecaceae, Myrtaceae and Monimiaceae the most abundant in number of individuals. Eugenia spp, Mollinedia spp and Ocotea spp are the genus with higher number of species. While the most abundant species is the arborescent palm Euterpe edulis Martius (Arecaceae), also known as palm hart, a delicatessen that is illegally exploited in the region. Using the software FITOPAC 2.1.2 to perform data analyses, we concluded that 15 species combined - E. edulis., Licania hoehnei Pilg., Indeterminada sp. 1, Ocotea catharinensis Mez, Alchornea triplinervia (Spreng.) Müll.Arg., Mollinedia argyrogyna Perkins, Calyptranthes lucida Mart. ex DC., Chrysophyllum viride Mart. & Eichler, Inga lanceifolia Benth., Myrcia crocea (Vell.) Kiaersk, Marlierea tomentosa Cambess., Calyptranthes strigipes O.Berg, Bathysa australis (A.St.-Hil.) K.Schum., Mollinedia engleriana Perkins and Miconia sp1 - account for 50% of the value of the phytosociological parameters studied. The area studied presents a high frequency of individuals in lower classes of diameter close to the limit for inclusion in the sample. A prevalence of nonpioneer and animal dispersed species, and a high diversity (Shannon-Wiener's H '= 4,359 nats/individual) and evenness (Pielou's J' = 0, 887) was found between the woody trees. The steep slope of the area studied and the high frequency of fallen trees observed suggest that natural disturbances are common disturbance is this type of forest and may be one of the promoting factors of local diversity. Land use history of the area, recovered from longtime residents, indicate that up to 40 years ago some selective logging may have occurred in the area, what can be related to the high frequency of smaller trees, and may be another factor influencing local diversity

Abstract: The history of the relationship between inhabitants and managers of the Picinguaba Administrative Nucleus in the State Park of Serra do Mar (SPSM) is characterized by conflicts related to the rights to permanence and to the use of natural resources. The SMPS is located in the northern coast of São Paulo State, the richest and more developed state of Brazil. Created in 1977 during the last military dictatorship, the park followed a preservationist scheme. The SMSP remained on paper until the beginning of the 1980s decade, when the first contacts between the park administration staff and the inhabitants began. At this moment, these inhabitants, rural workers and fishermen, were delegitimized and lost their rights to work and to continue their cultural and productive activities. Since then, the inhabitants were considered illegal, irregular, clandestine or, on their own words, "bandits", due to the Brazilian law prohibiting the presence of inhabitants inside the Protected Areas with strictly protection. This research aims to analyze the conflicts, actions, strategies and organization of the different social actors (inhabitants, managers, members of NGOs, public power, and researchers) related to the Picinguaba Nucleus, about the use of natural resources and the access to land. Finally, it will evaluate if this dynamic influence the social processes associated to biodiversity conservation. I start from the idea that all these actors have their own interests, perspectives, motivations, struggles and action strategies, and organize themselves around them in a very complex and multi-level arena. This conflict caused new forms of social organization in the SPSM: local leaders arose and communal associations that aim the struggle for the inhabitants rights were created. During the last years, the dialogue between managers and inhabitants was intensified, and new spaces of negotiation and new actors with own interests have appeared. Three issues are transversal to this conflict and the strategies followed by the actors along the years: land issue, identity issue and use and conservation of natural resources issue. Thus, the inhabitants were organized around the struggle for their right to land, and using categories such as traditional people, caiçaras and quilombolas. All of this in a context with a Protected Area with strictly protection, located in a region not only with high biodiversity, but with a history of use of natural resources and human occupation

Abstract: The research has investigated the contribution of academic studies to protected areas management, considering the importance of these areas as a fundamental strategy for environmental conservation, mainly in tropical regions, and especially those located in the Brazilian Rainforest. The importance of academic contributions to the collective construction of regulatory frameworks for environmental conservation, particularly those related to the Atlantic Forest, is also discussed in this research. However, our case study was carried out from the perspective of the administration of protected areas, analyzing the performance of researchers in relation to their degree of involvement with the management of the protected areas where they are working. Our focus was a group of researchers, both students and supervisors, linked to the BIOTA/FAPESP Program and working within four administrative Nuclei of the Serra do Mar State Park in São Paulo State. We found that, in general, researchers do realize the potential contribution of academic research to environmental protection, but in practice, still predominate their disconnection from issues related to management and maintenance of the protected areas where they are carrying out their own research

Pełny tekst źródłaThe purpose of this essay is the analysis of works of the Brazihan modem architecture with carioca base, built in reinforced concrete in the period between 1935 and 1960. It is undeniable that the construction had prominence among the several components that took the Brazihan modem architecture to the international recognition. Inside of the mentioned period, Brazil represented as leader of the universe of the modem architecture, where the exploration of the potential plasticity of the reinforced concrete was applied with great success. The solutions adopted by the Brazihan architects they had great repercussion, to begin for the building of the Brazilian Association of Press of the MMM Roberto of the headquarters of Ministry of Education and Pubhc Health (known as Palácio Gustavo Capanema) that left perplexed architects of the whole world. Signal of the new architecture in the country, these copies were object of expressive and successful innovations in your structural project. To do the analysis of the Brazilian constructions, it is important to study the origins of the reinforced concrete and your applications from your appearance, going by the description of registered patents (or just studied) in Europe and United States, without forgetting of needing names and dates, fundamental to nourish the revindication of influences and precedences. In a second moment, it is studied the arrival of the reinforced concrete in Brazil, and the initial works, besides registering the first builders and the elaboration of the first norms. In the thirties the armed concrete is agent of the verticalization and of the industry of the building site, domain this proven through data technicians and socioeconomic. The last part is dedicated for the analysis of the works, where Affonso Eduardo Reidy, Álvaro Vital Brasil, Lúcio Costa, MMM Roberto and Oscar Niemeyer are the authors of the projects. Analyzed under the aspect of your structural and constructive conception, the copies are divided in categories and inside of these ordered by project chronology and execution, where they are presented besides the written text, illustrations of the works in process, concluded and drawings original or elaborated by this author, through rising or researches.
