This study aimed at investigating the relationship of parenting styles with social phobia among a sample of 1028 early adolescent students. To achieve the objective of the study, short forms of the parenting styles scale and a social phobia scale were used. Results showed that the participants' highest scores were on the father's authoritative and mother's authoritative parenting styles. In addition, there were significant interactions between gender and grade level on all parenting styles. The results also showed statistically significant differences in social phobia due to gender, grade level and the interaction between them, for gender was females scored higher than males. With regard to grade level seventh graders scored higher than eighth graders. The results indicated that there were significant relationships between parenting styles and social phobia, with the exception of the relationship between mother's authoritative parenting style and social phobia. Regarding the parenting styles predicting social phobia by gender, it was found that for males and females, the predictive parenting styles were: Mother's permissive parenting style and father's authoritarian parenting style. Regarding the parenting styles predicting social phobia by grade level, it was found that for seventh grade, the predictive styles were: Mother's permissive parenting style, father's permissive parenting style and father's authoritative parenting style, respectively. For eighth grade, the predictive styles were: Father's permissive parenting style, mother's permissive parenting style and father's authoritarian parenting style.

In this study, we adopted parenting styles as a multidimensional and latent construct that includes different aspects of parenting, rather than solely focusing on a single parenting style. In a Web-based survey with 1203 Greek parents, we identified parenting styles and their SDQ reports on their children. According to our results by Latent Profile Analysis, we must use a more complex approach concerning parenting styles. We identified a “Highly Authoritative style” profile with high levels of authoritative, low levels of authoritarian and middle levels of permissive parenting styles. We additionally identified a profile called “Relaxed Authoritative style”, with still high but lower levels of authoritative style, low but slightly heightened levels of authoritarian style, and middle levels of permissive style. A further profile, named “Permissive Focused Authoritative style”, had a mix of high levels of authoritative, moderate levels of permissive, and elevated levels of authoritarian parenting styles. Finally, in a profile named “Inconsistent Parenting style”, we identified parents with a blend of still high, but the lowest of all four levels of authoritative and highest levels of permissive and authoritarian parenting styles. When combining the four identified parenting patterns with the SDQ results, we identified the “highly authoritative parenting style” profile to be the least connected to internalizing or externalizing problems of the respective children.

Parenting styles have been shown through empirical studies to be a central determinant in the depression of youth throughout the past decades. This review examines the two most dominant negative parenting styles in single-parent families and explores how single parents with two negative parenting styles contribute to adolescent depression. Based on the special economic constraints and excessive parenting responsibilities, single parents are apt to adopt authoritarian parenting and neglect parenting styles, in which authoritarian parenting styles presenting restrictive rules and harsh punishments will lead to low-level parenting self-esteem and high levels of emotional disturbances for teenagers. Also, neglectful parenting styles which are characterized by fewer parental involvements will significantly impair the adolescents disability to express and manage emotions. The conclusion is that authoritarian parenting style and neglectful parenting style negatively influence adolescent depression in single-parent families. This review provides a perspective on the impact of single-parent family background on adolescent depression. Future research should focus on how to help parents develop appropriate parenting styles to decrease the risks of suffering depression for adolescents.

This paper aims to provide an analysis into the specific type of poisonous parenting style Aleida Diaz has in Orange is the New Black, the reason behind her adoption of such poisonous parenting styles and the resulting consequences on herself. In analyzing Aleida’s parenting, we use Dunham & Dermer’s theory of poisonous parenting styles, specifically the Dismissive and Contemptuous Parent, combined with Baumrind’s Uninvolved or Neglectful Parenting Style that includes consequences of such parenting styles. In addition, we also use Mother-Daughter Relationship theory to understand the underlying reason behind Aleida’s adoption of these poisonous parenting styles. We divide the analysis into three parts. In the first part, we analyze what kind of mother Aleida is. In the second part, we analyze why she adopts such parenting styles. In the third part, we analyze what consequences she experiences as a result of her poisonous parenting styles. Ultimately, the finding will reveal that there is a vicious cycle of these poisonous parenting styles that turns out to be difficult to break from one generation to the next.

Parents are responsible for the parenting of their children. The parenting style has a very big effect on child development. However, not all types of parenting styles can improve child cognitive competence. This is due to parents’ limited understanding of parenting styles. This study aims to reveal and analyze the role of parenting styles to support the cognitive development of early childhood. This research uses a qualitative method with a library study approach. Data obtained through the study and analysis of literature related to parenting, such as scientific articles and books. The result of literature reviews show that parenting styles play a very important role in the cognitive development of early childhood. The most appropriate and dominant parenting style in optimizing the cognitive competence of early childhood is the authoritative style. This style has the highest demand and response, and it prioritizes warmth, encouragement, and care about early childhood. The authoritative style is believed to be suitable for the need and characteristics of early childhood cognitive development. AbstractParenting styles studies which used US data have shown positive effects of authoritative parenting styles and negative effects of permissive and authoritarian parenting styles on the adolescents' behavioral development. The effects of parenting styles were predictive within the juvenile population of the United States. The current study introduces questions about the influence of culture and gender on the association between parenting styles and children's delinquent behaviors. It focuses on South Korean culture, which is influenced by Confucian philosophy emphasizing obeying parents and importance of the role of the son in the family. This study uses ordinary least squares regression to examine data from the Korean Children and Youth Panel Survey 2010 collected by the National Youth Policy Institute from 2010 to 2016. Results indicated that male South Korean children respond positively to the authoritarian parenting style, but parenting style does not influence female South Korean children, at least when it comes to delinquency. These results indicate that culture and gender influence the association between parenting style and delinquency among children and broaden the applicability of parenting style research.

The ability of parents to provide the correct conditions for healthy development, support, and prepare children for maturity determines a child's physical, cognitive, emotional, and social growth. According to the literature, numerous factors influence parenting styles. This study aimed to investigate, using sociodemographic parameters, whether the parenting styles of fathers and mothers in families with disabled children differ from one another. The research was conducted at the "Dr. N. Robănescu" National Center of Neurorehabilitation for Children. It included 71 parents of children with cerebral palsy questioned using the Parenting Styles Questionnaire (PSQ), a Romanian-adapted version. Of the five examined parenting styles, the authoritative approach was the most prevalent. The results show a statistically significant difference in the means of uninvolved parenting styles between urban mothers and fathers, a statistically significant difference in the means of authoritarian, authoritative, and uninvolved parenting styles between married mothers and fathers, a statistically significant difference in authoritative parenting style between different education levels; there, was no significant difference in parenting style between different income levels; and a considerable difference in permissive parenting between various employment statuses. This research suggests that some sociodemographic parameters had impact on the parenting styles of our study group.

Background There is a strong correlation between parenting styles and the outcomes of adults; the most common coping mechanism was a spiritual connection. Objectives The present study aimed mainly at finding out the correlation between parenting styles and coping mechanisms and also to find out the most used parenting styles and coping mechanisms among the study sample. The study had a sub-aim of knowing the difference between the parenting styles perceived by the study sample compared with what has been found in the literature around the globe. Methods The study used a convenient sample of Koya University students who lived in the dormitories of the university campus. The sample comprised 411 students, 191 males and 220 females. For measuring the different styles of parenting and for measuring the different mechanisms of coping used by the study sample, a coping questionnaire was used. In addition, T-test and Pearson correlation techniques in Statistical Package for Social Sciences were also used to analyze the data frequency percentage. Results The study results showed a significant correlation between parenting styles and coping mechanisms; the passivity coping mechanism was positively correlated to the authoritative and permissive mothers’ parenting styles and positively correlated with the authoritative fathers’ parenting style. The population perceived the authoritarian parenting style to be the most used parenting style by both mothers and fathers. The most common coping mechanism among Koya University students was passivity. Conclusion The study findings indicated that the most used coping mechanisms by the study sample were passivity coping mechanisms, and the most common parenting style appraised by the study sample was the authoritarian parenting style.

Background: Parenting styles have a tremendous influence on a child’s development and behavior. Studies on parenting styles using latent profile analysis have been increasing in recent years. However, there are few such studies conducted in China, especially concerning joint parenting styles (that simultaneously characterize maternal and paternal practices), which are held over the age group of secondary vocational school students. This study aimed to identify the profiles of parenting styles and their associated factors among the parents of secondary vocational school students in China, based on natural samples and not a predetermined model. Method: Data were drawn from a cross-sectional study conducted among 3180 students from six secondary vocational schools in Shanghai Municipality and Shaanxi Province. A total of 2392 students who have lived with their parents for most of their lifetime were included in the study. Latent profile analysis was used to identify the profiles of parenting styles of the respondent’s parents. Multinominal logistic regression models were used to examine the association between parenting style and demographic characteristics and family background and adolescent outcomes. Results: We identified five latent profiles: “free-range parenting” (27.05%), “behavioral monitoring parenting” (33.65%), “authoritative parenting” (11.75%), “psychological control parenting” (14.38%) and “tiger parenting” (13.17%). The associations between these profiles and adolescent outcomes indicated that these profiles were rational. Participants’ gender, grade, residential area, family economic level, parental marital relationship, and parental educational level were predictive factors for parenting styles. Conclusions: The parenting styles held over secondary vocational school students were somewhat different from Baumrind’s parenting style model. A considerable number of students received a parenting style that might predispose them to behavioral and mental health outcomes and merit a tailored intervention using the predictive factors of parenting styles.

Using longitudinal data from a sample of 451 families with a child in eighth grade at the time of study, three research questions have been addressed: First, the study explored the ways in which mothers and fathers differ with regard to four parenting styles. Second, the study examined the manner in which individual parenting styles combine to form family parenting styles. Finally, the study investigated the extent to which these various styles are related to delinquency, depression, and school commitment for adolescents. Regardless of reporter, the most common family parenting styles are those in which both parents display the same style of parenting. Having two authoritative parents is associated with the most positive outcomes for adolescents. In the absence of this optimal family parenting style, there is evidence that having one authoritative parent can, in most cases, buffer a child from the deleterious consequences associated with less optimal styles of parenting.

Background: Parenting styles are the methods used by parents when dealing with their children. Some theorists in counseling and psychotherapy have shown the importance of parenting styles in forming children personalities. Baumrind recommended three prototypes of parenting styles: authoritative, authoritarian, and permissive. Parenting styles are associated with different levels of social and cognitive competence in children and adolescents. Hence with this background the following study was undertaken to understand the preferred parenting style practiced in the rural community of southern part of India. The objective of this study is to assess the parenting style practiced in the rural community and to assess the association of socio-demographic variables with the type of parenting styles practiced in rural community. Methods: It is a cross-sectional study, conducted in Basavanapura village of Hunasuru taluk of Mysuru district. 141 parents were selected by simple random sampling. Data was collected using parenting style questionnaire (PSQ). The questionnaire also included information on socio demographic variables. Data was analyzed using SPSS V.24. Analysis is done using descriptive statistics like percentage and inferential statistics like chi square analysis to find the association between socio demographic variables and preferred parenting styles. Results: The most preferred parenting style reported was authoritative (63.2%) followed by authoritarian (26.2%) and permissive (10.6%) types. Years of marriage was found to be significantly associated with preferred parenting styles. Conclusions: Nearly three fourth of the parents practiced authoritative parenting style with this type of parenting style adopted by parents having children less than twenty years.

Research has shown that parenting styles significantly impact children's and adolescents' development, as the family is the primary socializing agency. Self-esteem, a selfassessment of one's self-worth, has been extensively researched and linked to the mental, psychological, and emotional development of children. There is no universally best parenting style, as culture and individual characteristics differ. In Western cultures, selfesteem is consistently negatively correlated with parenting styles characterized by low acceptance and high protectiveness. Variations exist in which parenting styles lead to the highest levels of self-esteem. This paper reviews the impact of parenting style on selfesteem. Parenting styles are a psychological construct representing standard strategies that parents use in their child-rearing that can implicate the child's socialization, which plays a significant role in children's development. The study aimed to seek the relationship between the three parenting styles identified by Baumrind (1967) and the preschoolers' socialization towards their peers, their kind of play, and the manifestation of problem behaviors. The study used a descriptive method utilizing observation of the six subjects in the preschool level of UB VDTALC, the parenting style, and Dimension Questionnaire is a survey tool for the parents of the six subjects and the Key-informants interview among the teachers. It was found out that most of the subjects' parents use Authoritarian parenting styles and sometimes use Authoritative and Permissive parenting styles. Five out of six subjects exhibit more positive behavior to parents who most often use the Authoritative Parenting Style. Only one child exhibits negative behaviors to parents who most often use Authoritative Parenting Style but has the lowest overall composite mean in the Authoritative Parenting Style. This study will help parents and early childhood educators know what roles to take in terms of their parenting style.

Aim: This study examines parenting style as a potential predictor relationship in overweight and obesity among Saudi children. Methods A cross-sectional study involving 92 paired girls and mothers was conducted to determine the association between maternal parenting styles and Saudi girls’ BMI. Findings: The results indicated that the most prevalent parenting style was the authoritative. Majority of students have a moderate obesogenic environment. However, it was not significantly correlated with students BMI. Also, parenting styles were not significantly correlated with an obesogenic environment. Conclusions: Factors other than maternal parenting styles such as environmental factors, families’ socioeconomic status, or cultural factors might be stronger contributors to an obesogenic environment. Larger heterogenous studies are warranted to explore children's BMI and parenting styles associations in Saudi Arabia.

This study explores the relationship between parenting styles and children's ability to concentrate. The focus of this research is to investigate the influence of parental parenting styles on children's attentional abilities, as parenting styles play a crucial role in shaping children's behaviors, cognitive development, and various abilities. While several studies have examined the link between parenting styles and different aspects of child development, research specifically investigating the relationship between parenting styles and children's ability to concentrate is limited. To address this research gap, a total of 133 children aged between 5 and 7 years, along with their parents, participated in this study. Parenting styles were assessed using a parenting style questionnaire, and interviews were conducted with parents regarding their young children's ability to concentrate. The results revealed a positive association between authoritative and democratic parenting styles and high levels of child attention. In contrast, doting and neglectful parenting styles showed negative associations with children's concentration abilities. Additionally, the study explored the role of gender in moderating the relationship between parenting styles and attention. These findings contribute to understanding parental influences on children's cognitive development and provide insights into potential educational and parental interventions to enhance children's ability to concentrate.

This study investigated the relationship between parenting styles and adolescents' creative attitudes, focusing on the mediating role of adolescents’ perceived autonomy. A latent profile analysis (LPA) was conducted on 5,286 data from the 8th and 9th Gyeonggi Education Panel Research (GEPS) to identify specific parenting styles. Then, ANOVA and mediation analysis were employed to examine the effects of parenting styles on creative attitudes. The study identified five parenting styles: average parenting, indifferent parenting, authoritarian parenting, systematic parenting, and authoritarian parenting. Adolescents with authoritative parents had the highest levels of creative attitudes, while those with indifferent parents had the lowest. The study found that adolescents' perceptions of autonomy mediated the relationship between parenting styles and their creative attitudes. Specifically, the authoritative parenting style fostered adolescents' sense of autonomy, leading to more creative attitudes. With regards to the major findings of the study, the implications and limitations are discussed.

The present investigation predicted that greater use of corporal punishment as well as physical maltreatment would be associated with child abuse potential and selected parenting styles. Three independent studies were examined, two with community samples and a third with a clinical at-risk sample of parents. Parents across all studies anonymously completed the Child Abuse Potential Inventory, the Parent–Child Conflict Tactics Scale to assess physical discipline and maltreatment, as well as the Parenting Scale to measure dysfunctional parenting styles. Findings support that overall parent–child aggression, as well as physical maltreatment behaviors specifically, were associated with child abuse potential. Parent–child aggression was also related to dysfunctional parenting styles, particularly an overreactive, authoritarian parenting style. Permissive parenting was also identified as potentially associated with physical maltreatment, although the findings regarding such lax parenting styles are less clear. Intriguing findings emerged regarding the connection of psychological aggression to both child abuse potential and dysfunctional parenting style. Child abuse potential was also associated with dysfunctional parenting style, particularly harsh, overreactive approaches. Recommendations for future study with at-risk samples and additional research on permissive parenting and psychological aggression are discussed.

Parenting styles are an essential factor in how parents raise their children. More literature is needed about the role of parenting styles on parental financial socialization. How parents manage their finances is essential as children observe and imitate their parents' behavior. This study investigated the relationship between parenting styles and parental financial behavior. Parenting style was measured through authoritarian, neglectful, authoritative, and permissive. This study adopted a quantitative research approach and used a self-administered questionnaire to collect data from young adults in two provinces (Gauteng and Mpumalanga) in South Africa. Correlation analysis was used to analyze data. The results showed a significant positive relationship between authoritarian, neglectful, authoritative, and permissive parenting styles and parental financial behavior. Thus, it is concluded that a significant positive relationship exists between parenting styles and parental financial behavior. The study implies that parents should invest more time in understanding and evaluating their parenting styles and adopt authoritarian, authoritative, and permissive parenting styles as they were found to support and foster financial socialization. Financial educators and the government must design and implement financial programs to inform parents of different parenting styles. This study contributes to the existing body of knowledge by empirically testing the relationship between parenting styles and parental financial behavior.

Parenting style also called parental behaviour is the way parents generally relate to their children.1 It is the overall emotional climate in which parents raise their children. It has been divided into four different categories; Authoritative, Authoritarian, Permissive and Uninvolved. Experts recommend parents to follow authoritative parenting styles to the most effective one. But in Nepalese context, authoritarian parenting style runs among the families. Researches have shown that Nepalese parenting style could not be incorporated into a single parenting style as suggested by Baumrind.2 Present day’s parents in Nepalese context, with all the education and modernization, not setting clear rules for the children, and provision of more than enough freedom is found to be cool. Most of the parenting studies only find the correlation between parenting styles and outcomes rather than cause and effect. That’s why, rather than sticking to the specific type of parenting style or be cool with them, it’s crucial to take time and be able to connect to them and address the needs of the children. The present study aimed to examine the relationship between parenting styles with anxious thoughts of the students in selected high schools of Mashhad, Iran. A quantitative methodology in form of a correlational design was employed in this research, which comprised two main variables including parenting styles and Iranian teenagers’ anxious thoughts. To address the research objective, 180 teenagers who were students at some schools in Mashhad, Iran, and their parents, completed the study questionnaires which included Baumarind parenting styles Scale (1971) and the Anxious Thoughts Inventory (AnTI) designed by Wells (1994). The analysis of the data obtained from implementing the questionnaires was performed through SPSS25 software in two sections: descriptive and inferential (Pearson Correlation Coefficient and regression analysis, i.e. ANOVA). The results showed that there was a significant relationship between anxious thoughts and the three parenting styles. Also, the relationship between the authoritarian parenting style and the symptoms of anxious thoughts (r = -0.731) is significant in a negative way. On the other hand, it is observed that there is a positive correlation between authoritarian parenting style and anxious thoughts (r = 0.511). Finally, it is seen that there is a positive correlation between permissive parenting style and anxious thoughts (0.461), (p</01). It can be concluded that parenting styles can strongly predict anxious thoughts and determine 0.544 of variances of the anxious thoughts.

The study explores the effects of different parenting styles on online gaming addiction (OGA) and online shopping addiction (OSA) in this digital age. The objective of this study is to investigate other parenting issues that may affect these addictions besides parenting styles and examine the correlations among different parenting styles on these addictions which go viral under the prevalence of digital lifestyle. Based on the four Baumrind parenting styles, this study reviewed a number of research on the effects of OGA and OSA and revealed that there are more parenting styles identified as times change. It also found that positive parenting style is not always significant and may act as negative factor to induce smartphone addiction while acting as a positive factor against OGA. Furthermore, children with special needs like autism should be considered when evaluating the significance of the effects of different parenting styles. This study contributed to the available literature by adding three variables: parenting stress, hours spent online and the gender differences in perceiving different internet parenting styles which may affect the tendency of the onset of OGA and OSA and their interventions.

Objectives This study examined the relationship between parenting styles(i.e., affection, overprotection), grit, depression, and happiness perceived by college students during the COVID-19 period, and explored the mediating effects of grit and depression in the relationship between parenting styles and happiness. Methods An online survey was conducted on students enrolled in universities in Seoul and Gyeonggi-do, and 283 people were finally analyzed excluding those who did not complete all the responses. Pearson's product moment correlation coefficients were conducted to analyze the correlations between variables, and the mediating effects of grit and depression were verified in the relationship between parenting styles and happiness. Results First, the interrelationships between parenting styles(i.e., affection, overprotection), grit, depression, and happiness perceived by university students were found to be statistically significant. Second, it was found that parents' affectionate parenting style increased grit and decreased depression, while overprotective parenting style decreased grit. Grit was found to alleviate depression, and depression was found to hinder happiness. Finally, grit and depression were found to be double mediated in the relationship between parenting styles(i.e., affection, overprotection) and happiness. Conclusions Parents' affectionate parenting style raises the grit level of university students, and the elevated grit relieves negative emotions by reducing depression, while parents' overprotective parenting style decreases the grit level of university students, thereby lowering their happiness. Therefore, the parenting styles still seem to have an important influence on the happiness of university students. It is expected that the results of this study can be used as basic data for preparing programs to improve the happiness of university students.

The role of parents is key to the success of youth athletes, but not much is known about the influence of parenting styles on sporting achievement in youth athletes. The present study aims to explore whether parents’ perceived parenting style is associated with various areas of sporting achievement. Eighty-three Singaporean student athletes from various local educational institutes and sporting organisations completed an online survey assessing parenting styles (Parental Authority Questionnaire, PAQ) and various levels of sporting achievement (entry to national youth team; medalling at international youth competitions). Cluster analysis was first used to identify the different clusters of youth athletes according to their perceived parenting styles. Subsequent chi-square tests of independence were then conducted to identify whether there was a significant association between the parenting style clusters and different levels of sporting achievement. The results indicated that there were no significant associations between the perceived parenting styles and various areas of sporting achievement in youth athletes. Key takeaways from this study include the need to consider more complex and nuanced parenting style profiles; the cultural differences that youth athletes from Asian contexts might face; and the complexity of sporting achievement, which might not be explained by parenting styles in isolation.

The family is the basic environment in which young children live and is the main vehicle for their socialization. Parenting styles, as the consistent style of parenting demonstrated by parents in the family, impact the child’s mental health and social skills development to some extent. Social skills are important skills that young children acquire and use appropriately through positive interactions with adults and peers and are widely used in their social interactions and adaptation to social life. This paper categorizes parenting styles, generalizes the social skills of young children, and examines the effects of parenting styles on young children’s social skills from both positive and negative perspectives. As a representative of positive parenting styles, the democratic parenting style was positively associated with and positively predicted the development of social skills; coddling, permissive, authoritarian, and inconsistent parenting styles were negatively associated with and negatively predicted the development of social skills. This paper proposes recommendations to promote the development of social skills in young children, such as popular science lectures in schools and parent meetings, parents improving their parenting knowledge, and fathers increasing their involvement in parenting, hoping to help parents learn more about scientific parenting and apply it in practice, and to provide research directions for future studies.

This paper presents a study on whether parenting styles as assessed by adolescents are statistically significant predictors of formal operational thinking. For the purposes of the study the following instruments were used: an adapted version of the Parenting Styles and Dimensions Questionnaire, which measures the dimensions of authoritarian, authoritative and permissive styles, and Bond's Logical Operations Test. 200 students of the Technical High School in Pirot participated in the research (54.5% boys; average age 17 years). The study confirmed the principal hypothesis that parenting styles are a statistically significant predictor of formal operational thinking. With regard to the mother's parenting style, the dimensions of Attachment (with a positive b coefficient) and Lack of Explanation (with a negative b coefficient) contribute to the prediction of formal operational thinking. As for the father's parenting style, it is the dimensions of Regulation (with a positive b coefficient) and Coercion (with a negative b coefficient) that contribute to the prediction of formal operational thinking. The principal conclusion of the study is that certain parenting styles contribute significantly to the development of formal operational thinking in adolescents. A better understanding of the role of parenting styles in the development of formal operations could contribute to the fostering of positive parenting styles, which would in turn stimulate overall cognitive development, including the development of formal operations.

Drug abuse is one of the most serious social issues in Malaysia. Therefore, this quantitative study was conducted to identify the relationship between parenting styles and the risk of drug abuse among youths. A set of questionnaires were distributed to respondents at IKTBN Chembong. A total of 123 students of IKTBN Chembong were involved in this study. Two instruments were used in this study, Baumrind's Parenting Styles Questionnaire (1967) and the Drug Abuse Screening Test (DAST-20). The results showed that authoritative parenting style was the highest style used by parents (37.86%) followed by authoritarian parenting style (35.32%) while permissive parenting style was (30.01%). Testing for hypotheses was carried out using the Pearson Correlation test. The findings show that there is a significant correlation between permissive parenting style and drug abuse risk (r = .61). Authoritarian parenting lifestyle with drug abuse risks showed a weak and positive relationship (r =.119) while for authoritative parenting style with drug abuse risks showed a weak and negative relationship (r = .005). The implication of this study is the importance of parenting styles in dealing with the risks of drug abuse against youth in the future.

Although previous research has established relationships between perceived parenting styles and children’s deviant behaviours and links between these behaviours and a liking for intense and rebellious music, no research has explored the associations between perceived parenting styles and children’s liking for different music styles. Whereas previous research has considered musical taste by looking at a small number of individual difference variables in isolation from one another, the present research used a cross-sectional correlational design to investigate whether parenting styles, the Big Five personality traits, sensation seeking, age, and gender were associated with a liking for different music styles. In total, 336 Australians completed an online, self-report questionnaire. Analyses demonstrated there were relationships between five of the six parenting style variables and five of the music styles considered. This indicates that various parenting styles were associated with musical taste, and the nature of these associations extends well beyond those concerning rebellious music and neglectful parenting that have been identified by previous research.

AbstractParenting styles are associated with anxiety in children. Part of this association can be explained by how parenting interacts with known pathways to anxiety. Although parenting interacts with the verbal threat information pathway to create anxiogenic cognitions in children, it is not known whether parenting styles mediate the physiological component of the anxiety emotion. An experiment is reported in which 6–10-year-old children (N = 54) completed parenting styles, and anxiety beliefs questionnaires. They were then given threat, positive or no verbal information about three novel animals before being asked to place their hands in boxes they believed these animals inhabited. Their average heart rate during the approach was recorded. The results suggest that a neglectful maternal parenting style mediates the effect that verbal threat information has on physiological responses. However, a punitive maternal parenting style, maternal warmth, overprotection, and accurate monitoring were not found to have a significant effect. Paternal parenting styles were not found to have any significant effect. This experiment adds to the existing evidence demonstrating that parenting practices can mediate components of acquired anxiety emotions.

This paper integrates and analyses the classification of parenting styles by Chinese and foreign scholars, which are mainly defined as authoritative, authoritarian, permissive, and neglectful according to two dimensions: demandingness and responsiveness. This paper's analysis mainly focuses on the factors that influence the different types of families' parenting styles in China and their influence mechanisms on various aspects of children's development. It was found that Chinese parents' awareness of scientific parenting has been increasing in recent years; while recognizing the importance of both demandingness and responsiveness, they generally tend to choose an authoritative parenting style. However, the idealized parenting style usually conflicts with real-life and traditional views, and the lack of systematic scientific learning makes it difficult for parents to implement parenting behaviors properly. This article aims to explore how Chinese parents can break out of this dilemma and find the most appropriate parenting style with the support and assistance of all sides under the changing times and the current situation, which is influenced by multiple factors.

Based on the summary of the findings of research on parenting styles, which was conducted on the sample of adolescents living or studying in Kosovo and Metohija, the paper aims to present predominant parenting styles and foresee further development of certain traits analysed in adolescents. Furthermore, not only does it aim to specify the direction of certain surveys on this issue in the future but also put forward recommendations relating to organizing prevention and intervention programmes intended for parents and adolescents. After gaining an insight into the findings of surveys presented (conducted between 2012 and 2019), the following predominant parenting style stood out among the adolescent respondents (more than 2200 adolescents, i.e., high school students and undergraduates aged between 16 and 24): the cold parenting style is prevalent in fathers in every survey presented, while the warm parenting style is prevalent in mothers, in addition to the cold parenting attitude. The research on parenting styles has yielded certain correlations and differences, as well as the findings highlighting the possibility of predicting development of specific traits in adolescents depending on parenting styles. The conclusions are arrived at have contributed to producing recommendations on how future surveys are to be organized and conducted. The recommendations relating to working with parents are as follows: organizing educational seminars for parents for the sake of their familiarizing with and learning about quality parenting styles. These educational seminars should involve acquisition communication skills with the aim of more effective communication and better relationship between parents and adolescents. Moreover, providing families with counselling is recommended with a view to strengthening capacities for cooperation with parents in terms of their parenting styles and child care. It is of paramount importance to exert influence on fathers, whose education would enhance the level and quality of their involvement in parenting. Involving parents in further research is imperative, with the aim of comparing the findings relating to parents' standpoints and their children, and examining the relation among parenting styles, age, and a range of family variables.

This study aimed to evaluate the relationship between parenting styles and childhood dental caries using a sample of 3 to 6 years old children in Korea.
The subjects were 158 children aged 3 to 6 years old and their parents in Korea. The parenting styles were divided into three groups (authoritative, authoritarian, and permissive) using a translated version of the Parenting Styles and Dimensions Questionnaire (PSDQ).
Among the 353 parents/child dyads, 158 questionnaires were returned. Authoritative parenting style was the majority (95.6%), followed by authoritarian (3.8%), and permissive (0.6%). There were no statistically significant differences between dental caries and parenting styles. The mean of dft index in authoritative group was lower than others. In the authoritative domain, the higher the authoritative tendency, the lower the dft index.
Overall, authoritative parenting styles resulted in low rates of dental caries for the children. The stronger the authoritative tendency of the parents, the lower the experience of dental caries in the children. Therefore, parenting styles were likely to affect the oral health of a child, but it seemed necessary to supplement the evaluation tool to evaluate the parenting styles.

Little is known about how rejecting and controlling parenting styles may influence adolescent psychological crisis and what conditions may buffer the detrimental effects of psychological crisis. By integrating multiple theories, this study investigated self-esteem as an underlying mediator and school connectedness as a potential moderator to explain the link between negative parenting and the two psychological crises among Chinese adolescents. In this study, the questionnaire method is adopted to examine the combined mechanism of rejecting parenting style and controlling parenting style on the psychological crisis of adolescents. In total, 1863 adolescents were involved in this study, ranging from 13 to 17 years old. The results showed that both the rejecting parenting style and the controlling parenting style can significantly and positively predict the level of psychological crisis of adolescents, but the predictive power of the rejecting parenting style was stronger. Self-esteem partially mediates the relationship between rejecting parenting style, controlling parenting style, and psychological crisis. School connectedness moderates both the effects of rejecting parenting styles on self-esteem and the effects of self-esteem on the psychological crisis. This study identifies the internal mechanisms by which negative parenting styles affect adolescents’ psychological crisis, and reveals the mediating and moderating roles of self-esteem and school connectedness, providing additional explanatory paths for the mechanisms of adolescents’ psychological crisis.

Parenting styles are a risk factor for adolescents overweight/obesity worldwide, but this association is not well understood in the context of Latin America. This study examines the association between the parenting styles of mothers and fathers and the risk of overweight/obesity among Costa Rican adolescents. Data are cross-sectional from a sample of adolescents (13–18 years old) enrolled in ten urban and eight rural schools (n = 18) in the province of San José, Costa Rica, in 2017. Hierarchical logistic regression analyses were performed to assess the likelihood of adolescents being overweight according to the mothers’ and fathers’ parenting styles. A significant association was found between the risk of adolescent overweight/obesity and the paternal authoritarian style only in rural areas (B = 0.622, SE = 0.317, Wald = 3.864, ExpB = 1.863, p = 0.04), and between said risk and the paternal permissive style only in male adolescents (B = 0.901, SE = 0.435, Wald = 4.286, ExpB = 2.461, p = 0.038). For maternal parenting styles, no associations reached significant levels once logistic regression models were adjusted for the fathers’ parenting styles. These findings underscore the importance of further studying the role of fathers’ paternal parenting styles on Latin American adolescent weight outcomes. Expanding our understanding of the parenting styles of fathers has important implications for the design and implementation of culturally- and gender-appropriate family interventions.

This study aimed to understand the current situation of paternal-maternal parenting style, life satisfaction, and internet addiction among college students and explored the influence of paternal-maternal parenting styles and life satisfaction on the internet addiction of male and female college students. A questionnaire survey was administered to 967 college students in China. Life satisfaction partially mediated the effect of the paternal-maternal parenting styles on the internet addiction among college students. However, this mediating role completely varied by gender, and the dimensions of parental styles also had different effects. For male college students, life satisfaction mediated the two dimensions of parenting styles (the father’s emotional warmth, the father’s overprotection) and internet addiction; the mother’s emotional warmth directly related to the internet addiction. Among females, life satisfaction played a partial mediating role between two dimensions of parenting styles (the father’s emotional warmth, the mother’s interference and protection) and internet addiction. the father’s punitiveness and over-involvement were directly related to female students’ internet addiction. The study reveals that the mediating effect of life satisfaction on parenting styles and internet addiction among college students is influenced by gender, and the relationship between different parenting styles and internet addiction also varies. These findings indicate that paying attention to the role of the family, especially the parenting style of fathers, is crucial for preventing internet addiction in the future. Prevention and intervention should be treated differently for male and female students.

Streszczenie:
Background: Parenting styles are crucial in shaping adolescents' mental health. With varying implications for child development, the authoritative, authoritarian, and permissive parenting styles identified by Baumrind have been subjects of extensive research. The interplay between these parenting approaches and adolescent mental health outcomes remains a pivotal area of inquiry, especially in diverse cultural contexts such as Nawabshah (SBA), Sindh. Objective: This study aimed to identify the predominant parenting styles in SBA and to assess their relationship with the mental health of school-going adolescents. Specifically, it sought to explore the association between authoritative, authoritarian, and permissive parenting styles and the prevalence of depressive symptoms among adolescents. Methods: A descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted with 354 adolescents from both government and private secondary and higher secondary schools in Nawabshah. Participants were selected using non-probability convenience sampling. Data were collected via a survey incorporating the Patient Health Questionnaire (PHQ-9) for assessing mental health and the Parent Authority Questionnaire (PAQ) for evaluating parenting styles. Statistical analysis was performed using SPSS version 25, employing the Pearson correlation coefficient to analyze the relationship between parenting styles and adolescent mental health. Results: The study found a predominance of the authoritative parenting style among participants' parents (56.2%). A significant yet low negative correlation was identified between authoritative parenting and moderate depression in adolescents (r = -.124, p < 0.05). Additionally, combinations of parenting styles were observed, with a notable presence of mixed authoritative-authoritarian practices. Adolescents experiencing authoritative parenting reported higher instances of moderate depression compared to those with other parenting styles. Conclusion: The findings challenge the universally positive portrayal of authoritative parenting, highlighting its complex relationship with adolescent mental health in the SBA context. The study underscores the need for a nuanced understanding of parenting styles and their impact, advocating for culturally sensitive approaches in parenting research.

Early Childhood (AUD) is a golden age where the process of growth and development runs rapidly. Now, the role of parents in raising children has a different impact, one of which is in terms of children's independence. This study had aim to analyze parenting patterns of early childhood independence. There are 3 types of parenting styles studied, namely authoritarian, democratic, and permissive parenting styles. Researchers used a quantitative approach through survey methods. Data were collected using a questionnaire and analyzed statistically descriptively. The instrument contains 15 indicators representing the three parenting styles on the child's independence aspect. The research subjects consisted of 50 respondents who had early childhood. The results showed that more than 60% of parents used an authoritarian parenting style, 30% adhered to a democratic style and the rest used a permissive style. Of the three patterns, the pattern that gave high value to children's independence was the democratic pattern. With the results of this study, it was hoped that future researchers will be able to dig deeper into childhood independence and parenting styles.
