This research aims to observe and describe the orientation of Maslahah in Sofyan Inn Hotel UNISI Yogyakarta. The measurement of the performance process and the performance of the result of Sofyan Inn Hotel UNISI Yogyakarta was conducted through Maslahah Scorecard (MaSC) approach. This is a qualitative-descriptive research with the type of field research. The data were collected using the method of observation, documentation and interview in which the results of this were measured and analyzed using Maslahah Scorecard (MaSC) approach Maslahah scorecard (MaSC)is a assessment tool developed by Ahmad Firdaus measuring the performance of an organization through two phases: assessing the business in achieving the Maslahah (process performance) and assessing the outputs of the Maslahah performance (performance of output). The results of this research showed that Sofyan Inn Hotel UNISI Yogyakarta has implemented six orientations of benefit (Maslahah) including the orientation of worship, orientation of internal process, orientation of talent or workforce, orientation of learning, orientation of customers, and orientation of wealth. In the performance of process in Sofyan Inn Hotel UNISI Yogyakarta it obtained the score of 0.780 and in the performance of the output of the Sofyan Inn Hotel UNISI Yogyakartait obtained the score of 0,994.

Although previous reports suggest interactions between endocrine and exocrine pancreas, insulin's effect on pancreatic exocrine function remains unclear. Chronic pancreatic fistulas were created in six dogs with innervated INN and five dogs with denervated (DEN) pancreata; these animals were studied using the euglycemic, hyperinsulinemic clamp technique. After a 30-min unstimulated period, both groups received a 60-min 1.5 mU.kg-1.min-1 insulin (clamp) or vehicle (control) infusion. Intravenous secretin was then initiated at 16 ng.kg-1.h-1; the secretin dose was doubled every 30 min until 125 ng.kg-1.h-1 was achieved. These studies were then repeated in INN animals during infusion of a 10 micrograms.kg-1.h-1 atropine background. Finally, INN animals underwent a similar unstimulated period followed by a 1.25 mU.kg-1.min-1 insulin (clamp) or vehicle (control) infusion. after 60 min, a 64 ng.kg-1.h-1 secretin infusion was initiated. Insulin infusion was then increased by 0.25 mU.kg-1.min-1 at 30-min intervals until 2.0 mU.kg-1.min-1 was reached. Unstimulated (0-30 min) serum glucose and insulin levels and pancreatic bicarbonate and protein outputs did not differ between groups. Clamp (30-90 min) and stimulated (90-210 min) insulin were each significantly elevate in clamp groups (81.9 +/- 2.4 vs. 7.0 +/- 0.3 microU/ml, P < 0.001); glucose and bicarbonate were unchanged. Protein outputs during clamp (64 +/- 9 vs. 24 +/- 6 mg/10 min; P < 0.05) and secretin-stimulated (52 +/- 9 vs. 29 +/- 3 mg/10 min; P < 0.05) periods were diminished by atropine but were unaffected by insulin. Secretin-stimulated (90-210 min) bicarbonate output was diminished by insulin (0.03 +/- 0.01 vs. 0.31 +/- 0.05 meq/10 min; P < 0.003) in INN but not DEN animals; this effect was partially reversed by atropine. Dose-response studies demonstrated a threshold for insulin's inhibitory actions between 1.5 and 1.75 mU.kg-1.min-1. These data provide further evidence for exocrine-endocrine regulatory interactions and suggest that insulin may influence secretin's stimulation of ductal cell secretion by a mechanism that is at least partially cholinergic in character.

Abstract Individual plant treatment (IPT) techniques (e.g., basal bark, cut stump, hack and squirt) are used for woody invasive plant management and often rely on small trigger-pump spray bottles as an economical and efficient way to deliver a herbicide to the target species. Worldwide, plastic suppliers produce many models and designs with a wide range of uses, including pesticide application. However, spray bottle performance has rarely been examined in relation to IPT techniques for operational invasive plant management. We tested 10 commonly available spray bottles for trigger output and variation over repeated strokes. We also examined sustained trigger sprayer performance over a 6-wk period for spray bottles containing water or basal oil carriers blended with amine and ester formulations of triclopyr, respectively. In the first study, we found significant differences in spray output per stroke between almost every bottle tested. Almost all spray bottle brands yielded outputs greater than 1.0 ml per stroke, which exceeds the maximum application amount specified for hack and squirt. Several bottles produced an output of greater than 2.5 ml per stroke. In the second study, the output per stroke was reduced for basal oil mixes, with significant reductions measured for two brands by 21 d and for all three brands tested by 42 d after mixing. These results indicate that consumer-grade trigger sprayers are likely to depreciate rapidly with routine operational use without proper hygiene maintenance. Even then it is likely that these application devices may need to be replaced several times annually. Trigger-pump spray bottles are an economical and practical solution for remote field operations and volunteer weed control activities. These sprayers are most suitable for spray-to-wet techniques such as basal bark and cut-surface treatments but may potentially be less suited for hack and squirt application, which often requires sub-milliliter precision.

AbstractLesser celandine (Ficaria verna Huds.), an invasive plant from Europe, is becoming widespread in river valleys throughout the northeastern United States and the Pacific Northwest. Its high rate of asexual bulbil and tuber production creates dense infestations threatening native spring ephemerals. Ficaria verna abundance and reproductive output (seeds, bulbils, and tubers) were examined in invaded transects spanning a disturbance gradient away from a river. Site characteristics (photosynthetically active radiation [PAR], soil pH, moisture, texture, and nutrients) were quantified to examine their roles in plant abundance and reproduction. A larger-scale study examined random transects not specifically chosen based on F. verna infestations. Soil characteristics and slope were hypothesized to drive F. verna abundance and reproduction; we also hypothesized that reproductive output and biomass would be highest at intermediate distances from rivers, where disturbances are infrequent. Ficaria verna abundance and reproductive output varied considerably by site; soil characteristics, rather than landscape placement, appeared to drive plant abundance and reproduction. Lower percent sand was associated with significantly higher F. verna stem density and bulbil and tuber production. CEC was significantly negatively related to F. verna biomass and tuber counts. In the larger-scale survey, slope and PAR were significantly negatively related to F. verna presence and percent cover, respectively. Overall, these findings suggest that soil texture and slope can help explain higher abundance and reproductive outputs. However, reproductive output and biomass were not significantly greater at intermediate distances, contrary to expectations. We did not observe any seed production in any of the plots, although we did see a few plants with seeds outside our study area in the second year, demonstrating a near-complete reliance on asexual reproduction in these populations. This study expands on the current limited understanding of F. verna and can help management by identifying areas likely to support dense infestations.

AnN-firm production game known as oligopoly will be examined with isoelastic price function and linear cost under al Cournot competition. After the best responses of the firms are determined, a dynamic system with adaptive expectations is introduced. It is first shown that the local asymptotic behavior of the system is identical with that of the adaptive adjustment process in which the firms cautiously determine their outputs. Dynamic analysis is confined to two special cases, one in whichNis divided into two groups and the other in whichNis divided into three groups. Then stability conditions will be derived and the global behavior of the equilibria will be illustrated including chaos control. Lastly the two- and three-group models are compared with two-firm (duopoly) and three-firm (triopoly) models to shed light on roles of the number of the firms.

Hal inilah yang mendasari penulis untuk membuat sebuah aplikasi reservasi tamu hotel bagi tamu yang berda diluar daerah. Jenis penelitian ini adalah penelitian qualitative dimana semua data yang dihasilkan akan dijadikan sebagai acuan dalam pembuatan sistem yang dibutuhkan dalam membangun sebuah aplikasi yang terintegrasi dengan teknologi komputer. Adapun tahap perancangan dengan model pengembangan perangkat lunak model RUP (relational unified proces) mengenai sistem yang sedang berjalan pada hotel happy inn kendari,. Selanjutnya adalah perancangan flowchart program, perancangan database, perancangan input dan output, pembuatan listing program dan kemudian pengujian terhadap program. Hasil penelitian ini berupa sebuah aplikasi yang digunakan untuk pengolahan data tamu hotel happy in kendari.

The problem of output regulation deals with asymptotic tracking/rejection of a prescribed reference trajectory/disturbance. The main feature of the output regulation is that references/disturbances to be tracked/rejected belong to a family of trajectories generated as solutions of an autonomous system typically referred to as exosystem. Tackling this problem in context of error feedback leads to solutions that embeds a copy of the exosystem properly updated by means of error measurements. The output regulation problem for linear systems has been fully characterized and solved in the mid seven- ties by Davison, Francis and Wonham and then has been generalized to the non-linear context by Isidori and Byrnes. It is worth noting, however, that most of the frameworks considered so far for output regulation deal with systems and exosytems defined on Euclidean real state space and not much efforts have been done to extend the results of output regulation to systems and exosystems whose states live in more general manifolds. The tools available for solutions of the output regulation problem can’t be extented in a straightforward manner to non-linear systems whose states live in more general manifolds due to some restrictive structural assumption. The present thesis focuses on the problem of output regulation for left invariant systems defined on matrix Lie groups. In this framework we extend the idea of internal model-based control to systems defined on matrix Lie-groups taking advantages of the symmetry and invariant structures of the system considered. In particular we propose a general structure of the regulator for left invariant kinematic systems defined on general matrix Lie-group that solves the output regulation problem. Going further we study the output regulation problem for kinematics systems defined on the special orthogonal group and the special Euclidean group.

The present thesis focuses on the problem of robust output regulation for minimum phase nonlinear systems by means of identification techniques. Given a controlled plant and an exosystem (an autonomous system that generates eventual references or disturbances), the control goal is to design a proper regulator able to process the only measure available, i.e the error/output variable, in order to make it asymptotically vanishing. In this context, such a regulator can be designed following the well known “internal model principle” that states how it is possible to achieve the regulation objective by embedding a replica of the exosystem model in the controller structure. The main problem shows up when the exosystem model is affected by parametric or structural uncertainties, in this case, it is not possible to reproduce the exact behavior of the exogenous system in the regulator and then, it is not possible to achieve the control goal. In this work, the idea is to find a solution to the problem trying to develop a general framework in which coexist both a standard regulator and an estimator able to guarantee (when possible) the best estimate of all uncertainties present in the exosystem in order to give “robustness” to the overall control loop.

The objective of this thesis is twofold: on one hand, the design of nonliner observers, on the other, the design of internal-model regulators to solve the robust output regulation problem. In the observer theory a key role is played by the so called high-gain observers. The purpose of the first part of the thesis is to propose novel techniques which allow to overcome or at least to mitigate some of the main drawbacks characterizing this class of observers. Firstly, we study the possibility of writing an observer for multi-input multi-output observable systems in the original coordinates. Then, we propose a novel class of high-gain observers, denoted as ``low-power'', which allows to overcome numerical problems, to avoid the peaking phenomenon and to improve the sensitivity properties to high-frequency measurement noise. The second part of the thesis addresses the output regulation problem, solved for linear systems during the 70's by Francis and Wonham who coined the celebrated ``internal model principle''. Constructive solutions have also been proposed in the nonlinear framework but under restrictive assumptions that reduce the class of systems to which this methodology can be applied. In this thesis we focus on the output regulation problem in presence of periodic disturbances and we propose a novel approach which allows to consider a broader class of nonlinear systems. With the proposed design the stabilization problem and the regulation problem are substantially decoupled and output regulation is achieved in presence of uncertainties or disturbances, as long as the trajectories of the resulting closed-loop system are bounded.

In recent years, radars have been used in many applications such as precision agriculture and advanced driver assistant systems. Optimal techniques for the estimation of the number of targets and of their coordinates require solving multidimensional optimization problems entailing huge computational efforts. This has motivated the development of sub-optimal estimation techniques able to achieve good accuracy at a manageable computational cost. Another technical issue in advanced driver assistant systems is the tracking of multiple targets. Even if various filtering techniques have been developed, new efficient and robust algorithms for target tracking can be devised exploiting a probabilistic approach, based on the use of the factor graph and the sum-product algorithm. The two contributions provided by this dissertation are the investigation of the filtering and smoothing problems from a factor graph perspective and the development of efficient algorithms for two and three-dimensional radar imaging. Concerning the first contribution, a new factor graph for filtering is derived and the sum-product rule is applied to this graphical model; this allows to interpret known algorithms and to develop new filtering techniques. Then, a general method, based on graphical modelling, is proposed to derive filtering algorithms that involve a network of interconnected Bayesian filters. Finally, the proposed graphical approach is exploited to devise a new smoothing algorithm. Numerical results for dynamic systems evidence that our algorithms can achieve a better complexity-accuracy tradeoff and tracking capability than other techniques in the literature. Regarding radar imaging, various algorithms are developed for frequency modulated continuous wave radars; these algorithms rely on novel and efficient methods for the detection and estimation of multiple superimposed tones in noise. The accuracy achieved in the presence of multiple closely spaced targets is assessed on the basis of both synthetically generated data and of the measurements acquired through two commercial multiple-input multiple-output radars.

This thesis work has been motivated by an internal benchmark dealing with the output regulation problem of a nonlinear non-minimum phase system in the case of full-state feedback. The system under consideration structurally suffers from finite escape time, and this condition makes the output regulation problem very hard even for very simple steady-state evolution or exosystem dynamics, such as a simple integrator. This situation leads to studying the approaches developed for controlling Non-minimum phase systems and how they affect feedback performances. Despite a lot of frequency domain results, only a few works have been proposed for describing the performance limitations in a state space system representation. In particular, in our opinion, the most relevant research thread exploits the so-called Inner-Outer Decomposition. Such decomposition allows splitting the Non-minimum phase system under consideration into a cascade of two subsystems: a minimum phase system (the outer) that contains all poles of the original system and an all-pass Non-minimum phase system (the inner) that contains all the unavoidable pathologies of the unstable zero dynamics. Such a cascade decomposition was inspiring to start working on functional observers for linear and nonlinear systems. In particular, the idea of a functional observer is to exploit only the measured signals from the system to asymptotically reconstruct a certain function of the system states, without necessarily reconstructing the whole state vector. The feature of asymptotically reconstructing a certain state functional plays an important role in the design of a feedback controller able to stabilize the Non-minimum phase system.

Output regulation refers to the class of control problems in which some outputs of the controlled system must be steered to some desired references, while maintaining closed-loop stability and in spite of the presence of unmeasured disturbances and model uncertainties. While for linear systems the problem has been elegantly solved in the 70s, output regulation for nonlinear systems is still a challenging research field, and 30 years of active research left open many fundamental problems. In particular, all the regulators proposed so far are limited to very specific classes of nonlinear systems and, even in those cases, they fail in extending in their full generality the celebrated properties of the linear regulator. The aim of this thesis is to make a decisive step towards the systematic extension of the output regulation theory to embrace more general multivariable problems. To this end, we touch here three fundamental pillars of regulation theory: the structure of regulators, the robustness issue, and the adaptation of the control system. Regarding the structural aspects, we pursue here a design paradigm that is complementary to canonical nonlinear regulators and that trades a conceptually more suitable structure with a strong internal intertwining between the different parts of the regulator. For what concerns robustness, we introduce a new framework to characterize robustness of regulators relative to steady-state properties more general than the usual requirement asking a zero asymptotic error. We characterize in this unifying terms a large part of the existing approaches, and we end conjecturing that general nonlinear regulation admits no robust solution. Regarding the evolution of regulators, we propose an adaptive regulation framework in which adaptation is used online to tune the internal models embedded in the control system. Adaptation is cast as a general system identification problem, allowing for different well-known algorithms to be used.

The present thesis is composed of a short introduction aimed at introducing the topic and reviewing the literature and then three empirical articles. In the first paper the eco-efficiency levels of a group of Italian firms operating in 5 industrial sectors are computed using the directional distance function (DDF) framework. Results are analysed in a second stage where the determinants of environmental performances and the regulatory impact are investigated applying a robust econometric technique. Estimates underline that the sector-specific effect on eco-efficiency and on regulatory opportunity costs will disappear when individual characteristics of firms are considered, finally a major difficulty in dealing with environmental constraints emerges for small and medium firms. The second application deals with the scientific production of CNR’s research institutes: they produce a portfolio of products characterised by different scientific profile. The hypothesis is that there are 2 category of scientific outputs: researchers and institutes try to maximize only one of them, but the other cannot be reduced or eliminated. Obtained DDF estimates allow to verify different hypothesis: from the consistency and novelty of results in respect to the standard approach, to the TFP growth trends and concluding with quantification, in term of unpublished scientific papers, of the fund cutting occurred after the 2003 reform. Finally is proposed an efficiency analysis of the chemical industry in Italy and Germany, a mature sector where testing for the validity of Porter’s hypothesis could be particularly interested. Estimations reveal an higher eco-efficiency level for Italian firms also if they are more pollutant in absolute term. TFP growth, that takes into account reduction in emission levels, reveal a more favourable trend for German firms which at the end of period reach an eco-efficiency level similar to their counterparts. Finally the formal test for the Porter’s hypothesis lead to a rejection, revealing the absence of a positive relationship between initial regulatory costs and observed TFP growth rates.

Analysis of the peak-to-peak output current ripple amplitude for multiphase and multilevel inverters is presented in this PhD thesis. The current ripple is calculated on the basis of the alternating voltage component, and peak-to-peak value is defined by the current slopes and application times of the voltage levels in a switching period. Detailed analytical expressions of peak-to-peak current ripple distribution over a fundamental period are given as function of the modulation index. For all the cases, reference is made to centered and symmetrical switching patterns, generated either by carrier-based or space vector PWM. Starting from the definition and the analysis of the output current ripple in three-phase two-level inverters, the theoretical developments have been extended to the case of multiphase inverters, with emphasis on the five- and seven-phase inverters. The instantaneous current ripple is introduced for a generic balanced multiphase loads consisting of series RL impedance and ac back emf (RLE). Simplified and effective expressions to account for the maximum of the output current ripple have been defined. The peak-to-peak current ripple diagrams are presented and discussed. The analysis of the output current ripple has been extended also to multilevel inverters, specifically three-phase three-level inverters. Also in this case, the current ripple analysis is carried out for a balanced three-phase system consisting of series RL impedance and ac back emf (RLE), representing both motor loads and grid-connected applications. The peak-to-peak current ripple diagrams are presented and discussed. In addition, simulation and experimental results are carried out to prove the validity of the analytical developments in all the cases. The cases with different phase numbers and with different number of levels are compared among them, and some useful conclusions have been pointed out. Furthermore, some application examples are given.

The aim of the Proceedings is to publish the achieved partial output of the project solution. Contributions are sorted in alphabetical order according to authors' names. The aim of the Proceedings is to stimulate new ideas for scientists who could contribute to the use of new expertise in sustainable consumption and production in the conditions of the current Slovak economy, thus contribute to a more objective view of the researched issues. A producer can change the availability of goods, transforming inputs, which may be physical goods, like raw materials, or mental resources, like information and attention, into outputs. This chapter considers a producer who acts as if her behavior has no effect on the prices of the input or output. It is argued that this assumption may be appropriate if the producer’s quantities of inputs and output are small relative to the total volume of trade in the markets.

AbstractLivestock sector is the backbone of Indian agriculture and plays a crucial role in the development of the rural economy. More than one-fifth (23%) of agricultural households with area less than 0.01 hectare reported livestock as their principal source of income (GoI Government of India (2014) Key indicators of situation of agricultural). Livestock is one of the fastest-growing sectors of Indian agriculture. While the share of overall agriculture and allied sectors in Gross Value Added (GVA) declined from 18.2% in 2014–15 to 17.8% in 2019–20, the share of livestock sector in GVA increased from 4.4% to 5.1% in the same period (GoI Government of India (2021) The economic survey (2020–21). Ministry of Finance. Government of India). Livestock sector accounts for 31% of the gross value of output in agriculture and allied sector (GVOA). Within livestock, milk is the biggest component with 20% share in GVOA. In fact, milk is the largest agriculture commodity in terms of value of output worth INR 772,705 crores in 2018–19 which was more than the value of cereals, pulses, oilseeds and sugarcane combined worth INR 623,462 crores (MoSPI. In recent years, machine learning (ML) has received significant attention in the field of architectural design. This paper proposes a methodology for integrating ML with computational design to generate building massing based on environment, in this way, gives an outlook on the application of ML in architecture. In the early stages of building design, a great deal of effort is often spent on specifying and designing building massing. In this process, the assessment of the building wind performance plays an important role. Compared to professional computational fluid dynamics (CFD) software, plug-ins based on rhino and grasshopper, such like Butterfly and Eddy3D, can well integrated into computational design process. But even then, these plug-ins are still limited because a lot of computing power and time are required to run the program. This article provides an overview of a generative framework embedded with a ML approach to apply CFD in building design, finally results on a building massing with a balanced wind environment at the early stage of architectural design. This framework innovates the existing CFD simulation in following aspects: 1) ML-based simulation is timesaving, 2) this advantage allows the use of exhaustive enumeration to obtain the optimal solution, 3) this framework provides a good interface with computational design process with images as a medium, 4) therefore it is more flexible and operational. This framework aims to provide an approach to achieve faster and better massing design. To reach this objective, there are three main steps: 1) firstly, a generative adversarial network (GAN) model is trained to get wind simulation results from the input site, 2) then, the possible boundaries of massing in different height are generated for exhaustive enumeration, 3) afterwards, run again the GAN wind simulation for the possible boundaries, 4) and finally an assessment method is put forward to obtain the ideal result for the site.

High-power applications for diode lasers have recently been of increasing interest. In particular, one- and two-dimensional laser arrays are being investigated for this purpose. Among the most promising approaches for achieving coherent operation of the lasers in these arrays is the use of an external cavity. Successful implementations of such a system have been reported recently [1,2,3]. Since diode lasers typically have a beam divergence of a few tens of degrees, collimating the laser outputs leads to greatly improved far-field patterns, which, in turn, translates into more power in the main lobe of the combined output. Achieving this collimation in the case of a diode laser array, with its small device-to-device distance, requires an array of similarly spaced microlenses with very short focal length, small diameter and small F number. In this paper, we describe the fabrication and performance of a Fresnel microlens array etched directly in InP wafers: these microlenses have been used successfully to collimate the output of GaInAsP/InP buried-heterostructure (BH) diode lasers [4].

Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini lebih mengarah pada metode deskriptif dan analitik. Analisis yang digunakan adalah Analisis Output Input. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa Dalam perekonomian Provinsi Jawa Timur, komoditas kopi memiliki Kontribusi dan kontribusi melalui nilai kontribusi output sebesar Rp. 4,247 triliun atau menyumbang 0,133% dari total penciptaan output di provinsi Jawa Timur dan memiliki kontribusi nilai tambah bruto sebesar Rp. 3,821 triliun atau berkontribusi 0,226% dari total nilai tambah bruto di Provinsi Jawa Timur. Kontribusi output dan nilai tambah bruto sub sektor komoditas kopi secara keseluruhan memiliki nilai rendah.

Abstract The earlier generation of additive printable inks was based on volatile organic solvent carrier fluids. Increased awareness of the environmental impact of electronic waste has resulted in the emergence of environmentally friendly water-based inks with low-impact waste. The repairability of additively printed circuits can be used to reduce electronic waste and enable life extensions of deployed electronics through repair and replacement. However, the repairability potential, processes, and impact on reliability are relatively unexplored for new sustainable materials. This study consists of a thorough study of component attachment and the reparability of the components on performance and reliability. Repair procedures have been pursued on circuits printed with sustainable conductive ink on an aerosol jet printer (AJP). Adhesives are printed on the pads at the location where the component is to be attached using a direct-write technique that can print highly viscous materials such as ECA. This procedure entails attaching a component to a flexible printed circuit, measuring the output response, removing the attached component from the circuit, replacing it with a new component of the same rated value, measuring the output again, and comparing it to the prior output and the simulated output. Furthermore, the mechanical strength of the attached components is characterized in terms of shear load to failure. The force required to remove the attached component using a metal tip before and after the repair is compared for each of the passive components. Finally, a functional differentiator circuit is used to validate the findings.

Proses pembelajaran daring yang terkadang dilakukan dengan kurang efektif dan efisien mengakibatkan beberapa pelajar khususnya mahasiswa memiliki tumpukan pekerjaan rumah yang terus bertumpuk yang akhirnya mengakibatkan adanya psikologi abnormal yang diderita. Dalam melakukan pengolahan data, metode topsis dapat menghitung data dengan jenis multiattribute decision making yang membuat data diolah dengan output yang berbeda-beda, sehingga metode ini dipilih untuk digunakan dalam pembuatan sistem ini. Aplikasi sistem pakar identifikasi dini gangguan psikologis mahasiswa pada masa pandemi Covid-19 ini telah dibuat untuk membantu masyarakat umum dengan persentasi kelayakan pengujian sistem 50% bernilai baik, 17% bernilai sangat baik, 23% bernilai cukup, dan 11% bernilai kurang berdasarkan hasil kuisioner.

Using CSET’s new Map of Science to examine clusters of research publications, this data brief presents a comparative analysis of U.S. and Chinese research publication outputs. The authors find that global competition outcomes differ depending on the level of granularity when comparing research publication data. In a granular view of global scientific research, the United States and China together dominate almost two-thirds of the research publication output, with the rest of the world leading in more than one-third of publication output. In a general view of global scientific research, only China and the United States appear as leaders in research output.

Obwohl Algorithmen in vielen Anwendungsgebieten präzisere Prognosen abgeben als Menschen, weigern sich Entscheidungsträger häufig, auf Algorithmen zurückzugreifen. In einem ökonomischen Experiment untersuchen wir, ob das Ausmaß dieses als „Algorithm Aversion“ bekannten Phänomens reduziert werden kann, indem Entscheidungsträgern eine Einflussmöglichkeit auf die Ausgestaltung des Algorithmus eingeräumt wird (Einflussmöglichkeit auf den algorithmischen Input). Zusätzlich replizieren wir die Studie von Dietvorst, Simmons & Massey (2018). Darin zeigt sich, dass die Algorithm Aversion deutlich zurückgeht, sofern die Subjekte am Ende die Ergebnisse des Algorithmus – und sei es nur um wenige Prozent – verändern können (Einflussmöglichkeit auf den algorithmischen Output). In der vorliegenden Studie bestätigt sich, dass die Algorithm Aversion bei einer Einflussmöglichkeit auf den algorithmischen Output signifikant zurückgeht. Eine Einflussmöglichkeit auf den algorithmischen Input scheint allerdings nur bedingt geeignet, die Algorithm Aversion zu reduzieren. Die begrenzte Möglichkeit zur Modifikation des algorithmischen Outputs reduziert die Algorithm Aversion effektiver als die Möglichkeit, Einfluss auf den algorithmischen Input zu nehmen.
