Streszczenie:
Digital filters made with the use of discrete Fourier Transform are applied in most microprocessor protections produced both in the home country and abroad. When the input signal frequency deviates from the value to which these filters are configured, a signal is generated at their output with oscillation amplitude that is proportional to the deviation of the signal frequency from the specified one. The article proposes an algorithm for compensating the oscillations of orthogonal components of the output signals of digital filters implemented on the basis of a discrete Fourier transform, when the input signal frequency deviates from the nominal one. A mathematical model of the proposed digital filter with an algorithm for compensating the oscillations of its orthogonal components, as well as a signal model for reproducing input effects, is implemented in the MatLab-Simulink dynamic modeling environment. The digital filter model is provided with two channels, viz. a current channel and a voltage channel, which makes it possible to simulate their operation in relation to protections that use one or two input values, for example, for current and remote protection. Verification of the functioning of the digital filter model with compensation for fluctuations in its output signal was carried out with the use of two types of test effects, viz. a sinusoidal signal with a frequency of 48–51 Hz (idealized effect), and the effects that are close to the real secondary signals of measuring current transformers and voltage transformers in case of short circuits accompanied by a decrease in frequency. The conducted computational experiments with deviation of frequency from the nominal one, revealed the presence of undamped oscillations at the output of standard digital Fourier filters and their almost complete absence in the proposed digital filters. This makes us possible to recommend digital filters based on a discrete Fourier transform supplemented by an algorithm for compensation of fluctuations in the amplitudes of the output signals for the use in microprocessor protection.

Streszczenie:
Purpose The purpose of this paper is to establish a criterion for the global asymptotic stability of fixed-point state–space digital filters using saturation overflow arithmetic. Design/methodology/approach The method of stability analysis used in this paper is the second method of Lyapunov. The approach in this paper makes use of a precise upper bound of the state vector of the system and a novel passivity property associated with the saturation nonlinearities. Findings The presented criterion leads to an enhanced stability region in the parameter-space as compared to several existing criteria. Practical implications When dealing with the design of fixed-point state–space digital filters, it is desirable to have a criterion for selecting the filter coefficients so that the designed filter becomes free of overflow oscillations. The criterion presented in this paper provides enhanced saturation overflow stability region and therefore facilitates the designer greater flexibility in selecting filter parameters for overflow oscillation-free realization of digital filters. Originality/value The approach uses the structural properties of the saturation nonlinearities in a greater detail. The exploitation of upper bound of the system state vector together with a new passivity property of saturation nonlinearities is a unique feature of the present approach. The presented approach may lead to results not covered by several existing approaches.

Streszczenie:
We studied the periodicities of ventilation in elderly subjects using digital comb filtering. Two groups of subjects were studied, those with and without sleep apnea. Measurements were made in wakefulness, stage 1-2 sleep, and where possible in stage 3-4 sleep. For each of the digital filters we calculated the average power of the oscillatory output. To compare subject groups we first specifically determined the average power in the filter with the maximum output. The mean of this measurement was greater in elderly subjects with apnea compared with those without apnea, both during wakefulness and stage 1-2 sleep. In both groups of subjects the cycle time of the major ventilatory oscillations was on the order of 40-60 s. There was no difference in this cycle time between the two groups of subjects in wakefulness or stage 1-2 sleep. Thus, whereas similar oscillatory processes occur in subjects with and without apnea, it is the magnitude of the oscillation that differs between the two groups. These conclusions are supported by analysis of the output of individual filters of the digital comb filter. In both groups, stage 1-2 sleep produced significantly increased oscillations in ventilation. Both in wakefulness and stage 1-2 sleep, significantly greater periodicities occurred in the apneic compared with the nonapneic group. In the few subjects who had sufficient data in stage 3-4 sleep for spectral analysis, ventilatory oscillations were virtually absent in this state. Our data suggest that subjects who develop apnea during sleep have an increased propensity for periodic breathing even while awake.

We investigate second order lossless digital filters with two's complement overflow. We numerically approximate the fractal set D of points that iterate arbitrarily close to the discontinuity. For the case of eigenvalues of the associated linear map of the form eiθ with θ/π ∉ Q we present evidence that D has positive two dimensional Lebesgue measure. For θ/π ∈ Q we confirm that D has Lebesgue measure zero. As a by-product we get estimates of the exterior dimension of D. These results imply that if such filters are realized using finite-precision arithmetic then they will have a sizeable fraction of orbits that are periodic with high period overflows.

This paper presents a sufficient condition for exponential stability and confirms [Formula: see text] performance of state-delayed digital filters in the simultaneous existence of saturation arithmetic and external disturbance. The realization of limit-cycle free state-space digital filters is carried out by utilizing better characterization of saturation nonlinearities. The presented criterion not only ensures exponential stability but also reduces effect of external interference to a specific attenuation level. The obtained condition is in linear matrix inequality framework, so it is easily tractable. It is also shown that many results reported in literature may be retrieved as a special case from the proposed condition. With the help of numerical examples, it is shown that the presented approach provides enhanced stability region for the digital filters as compared to an existing criterion appeared in literature.

Streszczenie:
In our previous study of 14 premature infants, apnea occurred at the minimum phase of ventilatory oscillations. The apneas corresponded to cessation of airflow at the nose and mouth and were not distinguished as central, mixed, or obstructive. Changes in heart rate associated with the apneas were not identified. To determine whether ventilatory pattern characteristics might predict either the type of apnea or heart rate changes during the apnea, we analyzed measurements of chest wall movement and heart rate that were made during the earlier studies. Chest wall movement measured by magnetometers was compared with airflow measured with a face mask and pneumotachograph. Tidal volume, breath duration, and ventilation were calculated on a breath-by-breath basis, converted to time-axis data strings, and filtered with a comb of zero phase shift digital band-pass filters to detect breathing patterns. Of 182 apneas greater than or equal to 3 s duration, 55% were central, 31% were mixed, and 14% were obstructive. All three types of apnea were related to ventilatory oscillations. Multiple linear and logistic regressions showed that an apnea was more likely to be obstructive when it was long and when the underlying ventilatory oscillation was due primarily to an oscillation in breath duration. Multiple linear and logistic regressions showed that decreases in heart rate were related primarily to the duration of apnea and secondarily to the characteristics of the underlying breathing patterns.

This paper establishes novel criteria for the induced [Formula: see text] stability to avoid overflow oscillations in fixed-point digital filters with generalized overflow non-linearities and external noise. The proposed linear matrix inequality (LMI)-based criteria ensure exponential stability as well as confirm reduction in the influence of external noise. The generalized overflow non-linearities which are considered for analysis commonly occur in practice, viz. saturation, zeroing, two's complement, and triangular. The presented approach unifies a string of existing results which are derived by considering saturation non-linearities and external interference. Simulation examples are shown to validate the usefulness of the proposed approach.

This paper investigates the problem of [Formula: see text] elimination of overflow oscillations in fixed-point state-space digital filters using generalized overflow non-linearities and external disturbance. The generalized overflow non-linearities under consideration cover the common types of overflow arithmetic used in practice, for instance zeroing, two’s complement, triangular and saturation. New criteria are established to ensure not only exponential stability, but also reduction in the effect of external disturbance to an [Formula: see text] norm constraint. The obtained criteria are in linear matrix inequality (LMI) framework and, hence, are computationally tractable. The presented approach constitutes a generalization over several previously reported approaches for the [Formula: see text] elimination of overflow oscillations. For saturation non-linearities, the presented result turns out to be less conservative than several existing criteria. Numerical examples are provided to demonstrate the effectiveness of the presented approach.

Streszczenie:
Performing the Fourier analysis of the harmonic composition of oscillations is an effective approach to the study of vibration processes in machines and mechanisms. This method of express control remains relevant and highly demanded in the acoustic diagnostics of machines due to its relatively high informativeness. The expansion of its analytical capabilities is implemented by introducing additional means for digital processing of vibration signals, including smart systems. The objective of this work consists in creating a digital method for spectral analysis of vibration signals, the implementation of which would be possible with the use of smart devices. This work presents a method of polyharmonic approximation of the parameters of the signals reflecting oscillatory processes in machines based on the additive combinations of sinusoidal functions. The technology of truncation of the time discretised decomposition of the above signals into a Fourier series is implemented using the Rayleigh theorem and the Lyapunov – Parseval equality. The distortion of the frequency spectrum of oscillations is eliminated by suppressing its side lobes using window filters. To compare the efficiency of different windows, the following special parameters are used: width of the main lobe of the frequency spectrum; coefficient of relative expansion of the main lobes; maximum relative level of side lobes; coefficient of relative attenuation of signal energy. In so doing, the windows of Hanning, Nuttall, Hamming, Barlett were considered, and the parameters of a rectangular window were taken as basic values. The limitations of the digit capacity of analogto-digital signal converters depending on the required accuracy of maintaining the energy balance when truncating the discrete Fourier expansions have been determined. An example of implementation of the digital technology of spectral analysis of the parameters of oscillatory processes is given.

In this report, a power-assisted head-coupled display system for tele-existence is presented, in which the motion of camera and display is enhanced to 2 d.o.f. of yaw and pitch. The main display module is composed of light-weight color liquid crystal displays. The 2 d.o.f. power-assistance system using D.D. motors compensates inertial force including Coriolis' and centrifugal force and helps the operator manipulate the display by his head movement. In order to use a medium resolution rotary encoder to control the D.D. motor, the angular velocity is measured with interval of pulses. This current regulator detects the ac current and manipulates the voltage reference not only at the upper and lower peaks of the PWM triangle carrier but also at its zero crossings. A modified deadbeat current regulator is proposed to suppress the current oscillation induced by the voltage error, based on the theoretical analysis. Streszczenie:
A novel digital image stabilization technique is proposed in this paper. It is based on a fuzzy Kalman compensation of the global motion vector (GMV), which is estimated in the log-polar plane. The GMV is extracted using four local motion vectors (LMVs) computed on respective subimages in the logpolar plane. The fuzzy Kalman system consists of a fuzzy system with the Kalman filter's discrete time-invariant definition. Due to this inherited recursiveness, the output results into smoothed image sequences. The proposed stabilization system aims to compensate any oscillations of the frame absolute positions, based on the motion estimation in the log-polar domain, filtered by the fuzzy Kalman system, and thus the advantages of both the fuzzy Kalman system and the log-polar transformation are exploited. The described technique produces optimal results in terms of the output quality and the level of compensation.

Streszczenie:
Passivity-based control (PBC) seems to be predicted for the control algorithms in the voltage source inverters (VSI) for voltage backup systems. This paper presents limitations of the improved (IPBC) version of the PBC (directly measuring the output voltage) maximum voltage and current gains. In a microprocessor-controlled inverter, these depend on the PWM modulator dynamic properties, the switching frequency, the modulation index value (avoiding modulator saturation and enabling the rapid increase of the filter inductor current), and the parameters of the VSI output filter. A single switching period delay of the digital PWM modulator was considered in the theoretical calculations based on a discrete inverter model. The simulations for the standard nonlinear rectifier RC load enabled the initial adjustment of the IPBC border gains, which depended on the switching frequency. Some small harmonics oscillations of the output voltage were acceptable for the test rectifier RC load or dynamic load. However, oscillations of the inductor current increased the power losses in the coil core. Experimental verification of the simulation results using a laboratory VSI model is also presented.

Streszczenie:
A bunch-by-bunch measurement system has been developed at Pohang Light Source II. The system consists of a four-channel button pick-up, 20 GHz sampling oscilloscope and an 800 MHz low-pass digital filter. Upon measuring a bunch-by-bunch spatio-temporal beam motion matrix over many turns, singular-value decomposition analysis is used to reveal the dominant coupled-bunch modes. The system can diagnose injection oscillations due to kicker errors and the effect of resistive-wall impedance that gives rise to instability during operation.

Streszczenie:
Modular multilevel converters (MMCs) are primarily adopted for high-voltage applications, and are highly desired to be operated even under fault conditions. Researchers focused on improving current controllers to reduce the adverse effects of faults. Vector control in the DQ reference domain is generally adopted to control the MMC applications. Under unstable grid conditions, it is challenging to control double-line frequency oscillations in the DQ reference frame. Therefore, active power fluctuations are observed in the active power due to the uncontrolled AC component’s double line frequency component. This paper proposes removing the active power’s double-line frequency under unbalanced grid conditions during DQ transformation. Feedforward and feedback control methods are proposed to eliminate ripple in active power under fault conditions. An extraction method for AC components is also proposed for the power ripple control to eliminate the phase error occurring with the conventional high-pass filters. The system’s stability with the proposed controller is tested and compared with a traditional MMC controller using the Nyquist stability criterion. A real-time digital simulator (RTDS) and Xilinx Virtex 7-based FPGA were used to verify the proposed control methods under single-line-to-ground (SLG) faults.

Streszczenie:
To improve the stability and output voltage quality of inverter, an new repetitive control strategy for 400Hz Constant Voltage Constant Frequency (CVCF) inverter has been proposed . Based on active damping, this strategy damps the oscillations on the output LC filter of inverter under unload or light load. Using state-observer to weaken the impact of time delay in digital control, a 5.5 kW one-phase 400Hz inverter prototype by this strategy has been tested. The result shows that low THD (about 1.5%) with inductive loads and fast error convergence (2 fundamental periods) can be achieved by this strategy which can be demonstrated to be brief and effective.
