Pełny tekst źródłaIntegrated circuits are manufactured via a stack of various layers. The precise alignment of these layers, known as "overlay" (OVL), is critical to chip reliability. The specifications are very strict: on a 300mm-diameter wafer, each pattern must be aligned to within a few nanometres. Current methods, based on optical observation of dedicated test patterns, show their limitations in terms of representativeness and assessment of local variability. This thesis proposes an innovative approach, using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), to accurately measure these local variations and to understand the biases induced by the test patterns. To this end, an algorithm for measuring the overlay from SEM contours has been developed. By registering reference contours on the extracted contours, the overlay is measured directly on the product, without the need for a specific test pattern, even in the presence of partially masked levels.Following the evaluation of this method on synthetic images, its application to production wafers enabled us to quantify the local variability of the overlay on the product, highlighting deviations from on-line measurements, while revealing the limits of SEM-OVL metrology

Pełny tekst źródłaIn this thesis, we develop several tools in the direction of autonomous Quantum Error Correction (QEC) with superconducting qubits. We design an autonomous QEC scheme based on quantum reservoir engineering, in which transmon qubits are coupled to lossy modes. Through an engineered interaction between these systems, the entropy created by eventual errors is evacuated via the dissipative modes. The second part of this work focus on the recently developed cat codes, through which the logical information is encoded in the large Hilbert space of a harmonic oscillator. We propose a scheme to perform continuous and quantum non-demolition measurements of photon-number parity in a microwave cavity, which corresponds to the error syndrome in the cat code. In our design, we exploit the strongly nonlinear Hamiltonian of a highimpedance Josephson circuit, coupling ahigh-Q cavity storage cavity mode to a low-Q readout one. Last, as a follow up of the above results, we present several continuous and/or autonomous QEC schemes using the cat code. These schemes provide a robust protection against dominant error channels in the presence of multi-photon driven dissipation

Pełny tekst źródłaProtection of data stored on integrated circuit memories is a major preoccupation of our society. Today, these circuits are everywhere, from electronics for the general public (SIM charts, USB flash memories), to satellites, bank cards and numerical passports. This thesis strives to answer the following question: “Is it possible to physically read the information stored in a non volatile memory (NVM)?”. Contrary to software attacks, physical approaches (hardware) destroy components. To reach the information contained in the core of a memory, this progressive destruction must be controlled. We have developed a four stage method adapted to each NVM family: 1) technological analysis, 2) address descrambling, 3) sample preparation to make data accessible and 4) data reading. The difficulty and complexity of this work can be better understood if we start with the desired result. For example, the data (0 or 1) of flash memory cell corresponds to the presence/absence of a charge of several hundred electrons stored on the floating gate of a transistor. Detecting the correct value requires a technique with strong topographic and potential resolution, which is as non invasive as possible to avoid erasing the electrons which are by nature, highly mobile. For current memory technologies (node ≥90nm), we show that passive voltage contrast (PVC) or electric modes of Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM) are adapted to these constraints. With this approach, stage n°3 of sample preparation is the key step to expose storage location of programmed charges without losing them. The method described in this thesis is based on a functional and physical characterization of memories coupled with an understanding of component preparation and analysis techniques. The experience gained over the past three years shows the importance of choosing the right reading technique and adjusting parameters according to the type of memory to be analyzed. For future technologies (node ≤65nm) or silicon on insulator (SOI), our method should remain applicable

Pełny tekst źródłaThe main objective of this project is to test, and to participate in the development of the non-destructive energy dispersive x-ray fluorescence chemical characterization method developed at the “Laboratoire de caractérisation non destructive de l’Université de Montréal”. To do so, I analyzed chert originating from two different prehistoric quarries, the La Martre quarry DhDm-8, Gaspé Peninsula, and that of quarry CkEe-28, Témiscouata, Québec. Both quarries were exploited intermittently from the Late PaleoIndian through the Archaic and into the Woodland periods. The six elements involved in the characterization, three major elements (Si, Al, Fe) and three trace elements (Ba, La, Ce), were selected because of their specific features. On one hand, results confirm that the Université de Montréal EDXRF analyzer is able to analyze with precision solid rock chips. On the other hand, by using bivariate and ternary plots, as well as discriminant analysis, I was able to distinguish one chert from the other. In order to ensure the validity of the chemical analysis, archaeological samples from sites on the St. Lawrence Estuary including Rimouski (DcEd-1), l’Anse à la Vache and Turcotte-Lévesque (DaEi-6 and DaEi-8) were tested and compared to the results for the quarry samples. Results show that the characterizatoin can be applied on archaeological artefacts since both cherts were located on every sites, except for Rimouski, where only Touladi chert was present.
En raison de la grande résolution des photographies des échantillons, celles-ci se trouvent dans un fichier complémentaire, puisque les conditions de forme imposées ne permettaient pas l'affichage intégral de ces images au sein du mémoire.
