Streszczenie:
ABSTRACT The 2-nitrobenzoic acid degradation pathway of Pseudomonas fluorescens strain KU-7 proceeds via a novel 3-hydroxyanthranilate intermediate. In this study, we cloned and sequenced a 19-kb DNA locus of strain KU-7 that encompasses the 3-hydroxyanthranilate meta-cleavage pathway genes. The gene cluster, designated nbaEXHJIGFCDR, is organized tightly and in the same direction. The nbaC and nbaD gene products were found to be novel homologs of the eukaryotic 3-hydroxyanthranilate 3,4-dioxygenase and 2-amino-3-carboxymuconate-6-semialdehyde decarboxylase, respectively. The NbaC enzyme carries out the oxidation of 3-hydroxyanthranilate to 2-amino-3-carboxymuconate-6-semialdehyde, while the NbaD enzyme catalyzes the decarboxylation of the latter compound to 2-aminomuconate-6-semialdehyde. The NbaC and NbaD proteins were overexpressed in Escherichia coli and characterized. The substrate specificity of the 23.8-kDa NbaC protein was found to be restricted to 3-hydroxyanthranilate. In E. coli, this enzyme oxidizes 3-hydroxyanthranilate with a specific activity of 8 U/mg of protein. Site-directed mutagenesis experiments revealed the essential role of two conserved histidine residues (His52 and His96) in the NbaC sequence. The NbaC activity is also dependent on the presence of Fe2+ but is inhibited by other metal ions, such as Zn2+, Cu2+, and Cd2+. The NbaD protein was overproduced as a 38.7-kDa protein, and its specific activity towards 2-amino-3-carboxymuconate-6-semialdehyde was 195 U/mg of protein. Further processing of 2-aminomuconate-6-semialdehyde to pyruvic acid and acetyl coenzyme A was predicted to proceed via the activities of NbaE, NbaF, NbaG, NbaH, NbaI, and NbaJ. The predicted amino acid sequences of these proteins are highly homologous to those of the corresponding proteins involved in the metabolism of 2-aminophenol (e.g., AmnCDEFGH in Pseudomonas sp. strain AP-3). The NbaR-encoding gene is predicted to have a regulatory function of the LysR family type. The function of the product of the small open reading frame, NbaX, like the homologous sequences in the nitrobenzene or 2-aminophenol metabolic pathway, remains elusive.

Background: The neonatal behavioral assessment scale (NBAS) was primarily developed to aid in the assessment of full-term neonates. The aim of this study was to detect if the NBAS was also valuable in the assessment of preterm neonates. Materials and Methods: We assessed 112 infants at a neonatal unit using the NBAS, 4th edition. The inclusion criteria included an oxygen saturation level between 88–95% and a heartrate of 100–205 beats per minute. Infant neurobehavior was assessed using the NBAS. Results: For full-term and preterm neonates, we observed that the NBAS enabled us to assess both groups of infants and gave relevant information pertaining to them. We found a significant correlation between the average week of gestation and response to touch, sensory input, peak of excitement, cost of attention, hand-to-mouth, and quality of alertness. Conclusions: The NBAS is a valuable scale for evaluating the neurobehavior of preterm neonates. The week of gestation at birth affects certain aspects of neurobehavior, such as response to sensory input, putting hand to mouth, peak of excitement, and cost of attention. The NBAS as an individually structured assessment may help in planning for early rehabilitation and intervention for this vulnerable population.

The Standard manufacturing Procedures of Naga Bhasma prepared by two methods by changing Bhavana dravya were developed with latex (NBAD) and leaf juice of Calatropis procera (NBAS). Shuddha Manahshila (Realgar) was taken as a Maraka Dravya. Naga Bhasma was prepared by using classical guidelines described in Rasa Ratna Samuchhaya. Total 10 Puta are required for preparation of Naga Bhasma. Total three batches of each group were prepared. An Average of 8.83% increase in weight of Manahshila was observed after Shodhana and 1600 ml Ardraka Swarasa was required for levigation. An Average of 12.57 & 18.55% increase in weight was found in NBAD and NBAS groups’ respectively. An Average of 181.33 ml of latex and 182.66 mlleaf juice of Calatropis procera were required for Bhavana. Grey coloured Naga Bhasma was obtained after 10 Puta in EMF. Both the Bhavana dravya i.e. latex and leaf juice were found similar in view of pharmaceutical and analytical aspect, hence method of preparation of Naga Bhasma with Arkapatra Swarasa may be preferred in view of large scale manufacture, cost, labour and availability of drugs.

AbstractBiallelic pathogenic variants in the neuroblastoma amplified sequence (NBAS) gene were firstly (2015) identified as a cause of fever-triggered recurrent acute liver failure (RALF). Since then, some patients with NBAS deficiency presenting with neurologic features, including a motor delay, intellectual disability, muscular hypotonia and a mild brain atrophy, have been reported. Here, we describe a case of pediatric patient diagnosed with NBAS deficiency due to a homozygous c.2809C > G, p.(Pro937Ala) variant presenting with RALF with severe hyperammonemia, acquired microcephaly and progressive brain atrophy. Not reported in the literature findings include severe hyperammonemia during ALF episode, and neurologic features in the form of acquired progressive microcephaly with brain atrophy. The latter raises the hypothesis about a primary neurologic phenotype in NBAS deficiency.

Upon infection, severe acute respiratory syndrome—coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) is predicted to interact with diverse cellular functions, such as the nonsense-mediated decay (NMD) pathway, as suggested by the identification of the core NMD factor upframeshift-1 (UPF1) in the SARS-CoV-2 interactome, and the retrograde transport from the Golgi to the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) through the endoplasmic reticulum–Golgi intermediate compartment (ERGIC), where coronavirus assembly occurs. Here, we investigated the expression and localization of the neuroblastoma-amplified sequence (NBAS) protein, a UPF1 partner for the NMD at the ER, participating also in retrograde transport, and of its functional partners, at early time points after SARS-CoV-2 infection of the human lung epithelial cell line Calu3. We found a significant decrease of DExH-Box Helicase 34 (DHX34), suppressor with morphogenetic effect on genitalia 5 (SMG5), and SMG7 expression at 6 h post-infection, followed by a significant increase of these genes and also UPF1 and UPF2 at 9 h post-infection. Conversely, NBAS and other genes coding for NMD factors were not modulated. Known NMD substrates related to cell stress (Growth Arrest Specific 5, GAS5; transducin beta-like 2, TBL2; and DNA damage-inducible transcript 3, DDIT3) were increased in infected cells, possibly as a result of alterations in the NMD pathway and of a direct effect of the infection. We also found that the expression of unconventional SNARE in the ER 1, USE1 (p31) and Zeste White 10 homolog, ZW10, partners of NBAS in the retrograde transport function, significantly increased over time in infected cells. Co-localization of NBAS and UPF1 proteins did not change within 24 h of infection nor did it differ in infected versus non-infected cells at 1 and 24 h after infection; similarly, the co-localization of NBAS and p31 proteins was not altered by infection in this short time frame. Finally, both NBAS and UPF1 were found to co-localize with SARS-CoV-2 S and N proteins. Overall, these data are preliminary evidence of an interaction between NBAS and NBAS-related functions and SARS-CoV-2 in infected cells, deserving further investigation.

Introduction The consequences for the COVID-19 pandemic in the newborns of affected mothers remains unknown. Previous clinical experiences with other infections during pregnancy lead to considered pregnant women and their offspring especially vulnerable for SARS-COV-2. That is, the underlying physiopathological changes caused by the infection (e.g. storm of cytokines, micro-coagulation in placenta or vertical transmission) could clearly compromise fetal neurodevelopment. Objectives To analyze the impact of maternal SARS-COV-2 infection during pregnancy in early neurodevelopment of infants gestated during the COVID-19 pandemic period compared to those gestated immediately prior (2017-2021). Methods 212 pregnant women (14% infected) were followed throughout their pregnancy and postpartum, including newborn development. SARS-COV-2 infection was serologically confirmed during pregnancy. The Brazelton Neonatal Assessment Scale (NBAS) was administered at 6 weeks old by a trained neonatologist to evaluate neurological, social and behavioral aspects of newborn’s functioning. Differences in NBAS scores between cases and controls were tested by ANOVAs. All the analysis were adjusted for maternal age, sociodemographic status, anxious-depressive symptomatology, infant’s sex and gestational age at birth and NBAS, and for the period of gestation (previous or during COVID-19 pandemic). Results NBAS social interactive dimension was significantly decreased in those infants exposed to prenatal SARS-COV-2 (F=4.248, p=.043), particularly when the infection occurred before the week 20 of gestation. Gestation during COVID-19 pandemic did not alter NBAS subscales. Conclusions SARS-COV-2 infection during pregnancy seems to be associated with lower NBAS scores on social dimension in 6 weeks old exposed newborns. Disclosure No significant relationships.

The National Banking Acts (NBAs) of 1863–1864 established rules governing the amounts and locations of interbank deposits, thereby reshaping the bank networks. Using unique data on bank balance sheets and detailed interbank deposits in 1862 and 1867 in Pennsylvania, we study how the NBAs changed the network structure and quantify the effect on financial stability in an interbank network model. We find that the NBAs induced a concentration of interbank deposits at both the city and bank levels, creating systemically important banks. Although the concentration facilitated diversification, contagion would have become more likely when financial center banks faced large shocks. (JEL E44, G01, G21, G28, L14, N21)

Variations in the NBAS gene is known to cause a spectrum of phenotypes ranging from isolated recurrent acute liver failure (RALF) to a multisystemic presentation known as SOPH syndrome. Patients with SOPH present with optic atrophy, acute liver failure, short stature, and Pelger-Huet anomaly. We report the presence of a novel pair of biallelic heterozygous mutations c.5139-5T>G and c.2203-2A>G in the NBAS gene of a patient with SOPH syndrome. A 9-year-old patient was clinically diagnosed with SOPH following clinical laboratory analyses. Current interventions for managing the disease encompass IVIG, methylprednisolone, calcium, and vitamin D administration. Whole-exome sequencing (WES) results showed two mutations: c.2203-2A>G and c.5139-5T>G, in the NBAS gene, which had not been previously reported. Notably, we hypothesize that NBAS mutations could potentially contribute to the development of Fanconi syndrome, a clinical diagnosis reported in our patient. Our study also supports the renaming of SOPH to SOPHIA to allow early detection and effective treatment.

Case Description: We present a 5-year-old girl initially examined for her dysmorphic features, mental delay, strabismus, and high myopia. During the funduscopic examination, we observed optic atrophy with narrow thinned arterioles with the light brown reflex of the central retina. A genetic assessment revealed NBAS-SOPH like mutation. An assessment by a team of orthodontists defined typical characteristics. Conclusions: NBAS mutations can also cause complex disease with a broad clinical spectrum ranging from isolated recurrent acute liver failure (RALF) to a multisystemic phenotype. Due to the heterogeneity of the expressions, a multispeciality approach to this situation is recommended.

ABSTRACT Pseudomonas fluorescens strain KU-7 is a prototype microorganism that metabolizes 2-nitrobenzoate (2-NBA) via the formation of 3-hydroxyanthranilate (3-HAA), a known antioxidant and reductant. The initial two steps leading to the sequential formation of 2-hydroxy/aminobenzoate and 3-HAA are catalyzed by a NADPH-dependent 2-NBA nitroreductase (NbaA) and 2-hydroxylaminobenzoate mutase (NbaB), respectively. The 216-amino-acid protein NbaA is 78% identical to a plasmid-encoded hypothetical conserved protein of Polaromonas strain JS666; structurally, it belongs to the homodimeric NADH:flavin mononucleotide (FMN) oxidoreductase-like fold family. Structural modeling of complexes with the flavin, coenzyme, and substrate suggested specific residues contributing to the NbaA catalytic activity, assuming a ping-pong reaction mechanism. Mutational analysis supports the roles of Asn40, Asp76, and Glu113, which are predicted to form the binding site for a divalent metal ion implicated in FMN binding, and a role in NADPH binding for the 10-residue insertion in the β5-α2 loop. The 181-amino-acid sequence of NbaB is 35% identical to the 4-hydroxylaminobenzoate lyases (PnbBs) of various 4-nitrobenzoate-assimilating bacteria, e.g., Pseudomonas putida strain TW3. Coexpression of nbaB with nbaA in Escherichia coli produced a small amount of 3-HAA from 2-NBA, supporting the functionality of the nbaB gene. We also showed by gene knockout and chemotaxis assays that nbaY, a chemoreceptor NahY homolog located downstream of the nbaA gene, is responsible for strain KU-7 being attracted to 2-NBA. NbaY is the first chemoreceptor in nitroaromatic metabolism to be identified, and this study completes the gene elucidation of 2-NBA metabolism that is localized within a 24-kb chromosomal locus of strain KU-7.

This study examined the effects of maternal cocaine use on performance on the Neonatal Behavioral Assessment Scale (NBAS). Cocaine-exposed newborns (n = 56) were compared with a non-cocaine-exposed group (n = 30) born to mothers with similar sociodemographic characteristics. Cocaine-exposed newborns showed significant reduction in birth weight but did not experience greater obstetric or postnatal complications. On neurobehavioral assessments using the NBAS, cocaine-exposed newborns showed significantly depressed performance on the habituation cluster but not on other NBAS clusters when differences in birth weight were controlled. In a sample of 30 cocaine-exposed newborns matched on birth weight, gestational age, and race to the 30 non-cocaine-exposed newborns, cocaine-exposed newborns continued to show depressed habituation performance. The significance of a selective effect of cocaine exposure on early habituation performance is discussed in terms of the implications for attentional regulation in the first year of life.

Abstract The aim of this study was to analyse the relationship between the following three assessments: the Neonatal Behavioral Assessment Scale (NBAS), the Alberta Infant Motor Scale (AIMS), and the General Movement Assessment (GMA). 29 patients from the neonatal unit of the Gynecology and Obstetrics Clinical Hospital were examined. The study was conducted between feedings by a person properly trained in the use of the NBAS, the AIMS, and the GMA. The average postmenstrual age of the examined newborns was 35.6 weeks. The average week of gestation was the 29th, the average birth weight was 1469 g, and the Median Apgar score in the fifth minute of life was 7. A relationship was found between the AIMS and the NBAS. It was concluded that the Neonatal Behavioral Assessment Scale and the Alberta Infant Motor Scale may be used to determine the motor development of preterm infants. Moreover, it is advisable to use more than one assessment method in order to adjust the intervention.

Acute liver injury (ALI) in children is a life-threatening event, and a definitive etiology can be identified in approximately 50% of cases. Neuroblastoma amplified sequence (NBAS) gene mutations have been associated with a broad phenotypic spectrum of this disease, ranging from recurrent episodes of fever-induced liver injuries to multiorgan involvement, including frequent infections as well as skeletal and immunological abnormalities. Here, we describe an adolescent female with a confirmed compound heterozygous NBAS gene mutation who presented with an episode of ALI complicated by severe acute kidney injury (AKI). The kidney injury was most probably driven by an intrinsic insult, as noted by elevated neutrophil gelatinase-associated lipocalin levels and a kidney biopsy demonstrating severe tubular damage consistent with acute tubular necrosis. While the patient’s liver function and mental status showed significant improvement with supportive care, recovery of kidney function was delayed, and the patient required acute hemodialysis. We suggest a causative relation between the NBAS gene mutation and severe AKI.

Streszczenie:
Removal of the oil-based filter cake is a complex task especially in horizontal and multilateral wells. The presence of oil makes the removal process more challenging because the oil coats the weighting materials and prevents acid–filter cake interaction. Therefore, different additives are required to change the wettability of the filter cake to enhance the removal efficiency. This paper introduces a new biodegradable acid system (NBAS) that can efficiently remove oil-based filter cake in horizontal and multilateral wells where calcium carbonate is used as a weighting agent. The new biodegradable acid system (NBAS) consists of 50 vol.% biodegradable acid and 5 vol.% mutual solvent, and the remaining percent is deionized water. High-pressure high-temperature (HPHT) filtration experiments were performed to evaluate the filter cake removal efficiency and the retained permeability. The filtration and removal experiments were conducted using real core samples (Indiana limestone and Berea sandstone) at a temperature of 212 °F and 300 psi differential pressure. Afterward, the NBAS was evaluated by measuring physical properties and conducting corrosion, compatibility, and thermal stability studies. The obtained results showed that the NBAS was compatible and thermally stable for more than 48 h at 212 °F and 300 psi. The NBAS has a density of 1.05 g/cm3, viscosity of 1.47 cP, and surface tension of 32 dynes/cm at room temperature. The corrosion rate of the developed system was 0.03 lb/ft2, which is acceptable according to oil and gas industry best practices. Removal experiments showed that the filter cake was completely removed from the core samples. For Berea sandstone, 100% of the permeability was regained, while the retained permeability for Indiana limestone was 122.5%, confirming the complete removal of external and internal filter cake as well as core samples stimulation. The new acid system can be considered as an efficient solution for oil-based filter cake removal that is biodegradable and cost-effective, where the reservoir permeability can be regained in one-stage only.

The aim of this study was to analyze how micronutrient intake during preconception and pregnancy affects neonatal behavior. A total of 66 healthy women volunteers were studied during preconception and in weeks 6, 10, 26, and 38 of pregnancy using the seven-day dietary record. The behavior of the newborn infant was assessed after three days of life using the Neonatal Behavioral Assessment Scale (NBAS). Multiple linear regression models were built and adjusted for the confounding variables in each of the periods studied and for each one of the various NBAS clusters. The intake of vitamins B1 and B6 in the sixth week of pregnancy and of iron in the 38th week of pregnancy have a positive and significant effect on the motor cluster of the NBAS independently of the body mass index (BMI), preconception age, gestational age, educational level, whether the mother is a smoker, the mother’s personality dimensions, and the weight and sex of the newborn. The intake of B1, B6, and iron during pregnancy might contribute to the neuromotor maturity of the newborn.

Objective: The objective of the study was to investigate the possibility of utilizing an early litter size trait as an indirect selection trait for longevity and to estimate genetic parameters between sow stayability and litter size at different parities using a linear-threshold model for longevity in Thai Large White (LW) and Landrace (LR) populations. Methods: The data included litter size at first, second, and third parities (NBA1, NBA2, and NBA3) and sow stayability from first to fourth farrowings (STAY14). The data was obtained from 10,794 LR and 9,475 LW sows. Genetic parameters were estimated using the multipletrait animal model. A linear-threshold model was used in which NBA1, NBA2, and NBA3 were continuous traits, while STAY14 was considered a binary trait. Results: Heritabilities for litter size were low and ranged from 0.01 to 0.06 for both LR and LW breeds. Similarly, heritabilities for stayability were low for both breeds. Genetic associations between litter size and stayability ranged from 0.43 to 0.65 for LR populations and 0.12 to 0.55 for LW populations. The genetic correlation between NBA1 and STAY14 was moderate and in a favorable direction for both LR and LW breeds (0.65 and 0.55, respectively). Conclusion: A linear-threshold model could be utilized to analyze litter size and sow stayability traits. Furthermore, selection for litter size at first parity, which was the genetic trait correlated with longevity, is possible when one attempts to improve lifetime productivity in Thai swine populations.

The size of transistors has drastically reduced over the years. Interconnects have likewise also been scaled down. Today, conventional copper (Cu)-based interconnects face a significant impediment to further scaling since their electrical conductivity decreases at smaller dimensions, which also worsens the signal delay and energy consumption. As a result, alternative scalable materials such as semi-metals and 2D materials were being investigated as potential Cu replacements. In this paper, we experimentally showed that CoPt can provide better resistivity than Cu at thin dimensions and proposed hybrid poly-Si with a CoPt coating for local routing in standard cells for compactness. We evaluated the performance gain for DRAM/eDRAM, and area vs. performance trade-off for D-Flip-Flop (DFF) using hybrid poly-Si with a thin film of CoPt. We gained up to a 3-fold reduction in delay and a 15.6% reduction in cell area with the proposed hybrid interconnect. We also studied the system-level interconnect design using NbAs, a topological semi-metal with high electron mobility at the nanoscale, and demonstrated its advantages over Cu in terms of resistivity, propagation delay, and slew rate. Our simulations revealed that NbAs could reduce the propagation delay by up to 35.88%. We further evaluated the potential system-level performance gain for NbAs-based interconnects in cache memories and observed an instructions per cycle (IPC) improvement of up to 23.8%.

Osteogenesis imperfecta (OI) consists of a group of genetically and phenotypically heterogeneous diseases characterised by bone fragility. Recent improvement in gene sequencing methods has helped us identify rare forms of OI that are inherited in an autosomal recessive manner. Paediatric endocrinology was consulted on a newborn girl with multiple fractures and wavy thin ribs noted on X-rays. In addition to the bone phenotype, she also has short stature and recurrent acute liver failure (ALF) episodes triggered by intercurrent illness. Whole exome sequencing revealed two novel compound heterozygous variants in neuroblastoma amplified sequence (NBAS) gene. NBAS gene codes for a protein that is involved in nonsense-mediated decay pathway and retrograde transport of proteins from Golgi to endoplasmic reticulum. Recognition of pathogenic variants in this gene as a rare cause of autosomal recessive OI and recurrent ALF has important therapeutic implications.

A Weyl semimetal is a novel crystal with low-energy electronic excitations that behave as Weyl fermions. It has received worldwide interest and was believed to have introduced the next era of condensed matter physics after graphene and three-dimensional topological insulators. However, it is not easy to obtain a single large-sized crystal because there are many nucleations in the preparation process. A bottom-seed CVT growth method is proposed in this paper, and we acquired the large-sized, high-quality NbAs single crystals up to 4 × 3 × 3 mm3 finally. X-ray diffraction and STEM confirmed that they are tetragonal NbAs, which the key is to using the seed crystal in a vertical growth furnace. Notably, the photoelectric properties of the crystal are obtained under the existing conditions, which paves the way for follow-up work.

Solid-state reactions between niobium and gallium arsenide in both thin film and bulk forms were studied in the temperature range 400 to 1000 °C using transmission electron microscopy (TEM), metallography, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and electron probe microanalysis (EPMA). Initially Nb4As3 and Nb5Ga3 formed at the interface and grew very slowly. Following an incubation period, NbAs and NbGa, nucleated and grew at rates several orders of magnitude faster than the initial phases. The resulting metastable diffusion path, Nb/NbGa3/NbAs/GaAs, was observed even after relatively long-term annealing and is believed to be kinetically stabilized. Formation of the other Nb–Ga binary compounds as predicted by the phase diagram was inhibited by nucleation and kinetic barriers. The observed reaction sequence is discussed considering the thermodynamics, kinetics, and possible growth mechanisms involved in the reaction.

(1) Background: The aim of this study was to determine the direct impact of neurobehavior on the sucking reflex and eating abilities of neonates. (2) Methods: We assessed 18 preterm neonates twice hospitalized at the Gynecology and Obstetrics Clinical Hospital through the use of the Neonatal Behavioral Assessment Scale (NBAS). (3) Results: We found that that a neonate’s sucking ability positively correlated with the activity level item from the motor system cluster of the NBAS. (4) Conclusions: Neurobehavior should be closely assessed in very preterm neonates. Firstly, because assessments can detect fundamental problems and help a practitioner plan for early intervention. Secondly, the education of parents regarding the neurobehavior of their child can help in the facilitation of feeding skills and the planning of early rehabilitation.

Objective. To determine in a representative sample of full-term urban newborns of English-speaking mothers whether an immediate or late dose-response effect could be demonstrated between prenatal cocaine exposure and newborn neurobehavioral performance, controlling for confounding factors. Methods. The Neonatal Behavioral Assessment Scale (NBAS) was administered by masked examiners to a total sample of 251 clinically healthy, full-term infants at 2 days and/or 17 days. Three in utero cocaine exposure groups were defined: heavily exposed (n = 44, >75th percentile self-reported days of use during pregnancy and/or >75th percentile of meconium benzoylecognine concentration); lightly exposed (n = 79, less than both 75th percentiles); and unexposed (n = 101, no positive biological or self-report marker). At the 3-week examination there were 38 heavily exposed, 73 lightly exposed, and 94 unexposed infants. Controlling for infant birth weight, gestational age, infant age at the time of examination, mothers' age, perinatal risk, obstetric medication, and alcohol, marijuana, and cigarette use, a regression analysis evaluated the effects of levels of cocaine exposure on NBAS performance. Results. No neurobehavioral effects of exposure on the newborn NBAS cluster scores or on the qualifier scores were found when confounders were controlled for at 2 to 3 days of age. At 3 weeks, after controlling for covariates, a significant dose effect was observed, with heavily exposed infants showing poorer state regulation and greater excitability. Conclusions. These findings demonstrate specific dose-related effects of cocaine on 3-week neurobehavioral performance, particularly for the regulation of arousal, which was not observed in the first few days of life.

In this paper, we propose and implement a novel framework of deep learning based antenna selection (DLBAS)-aided multiple-input–multiple-output (MIMO) software defined radio (SDR) system. The system is constructed with the following three steps: (1) a MIMO SDR communication platform is first constructed, which is capable of achieving uplink communication from users to the base station via time division duplex (TDD); (2) we use the deep neural network (DNN) from our previous work to construct a deep learning decision server to assist the MIMO SDR platform for making intelligent decision for antenna selection, which transforms the optimization-driven decision making method into a data-driven decision making method; and (3) we set up the deep learning decision server as a multithreading server to improve the resource utilization ratio. To evaluate the performance of the DLBAS-aided MIMO SDR system, a norm-based antenna selection (NBAS) scheme is selected for comparison. The results show that the proposed DLBAS scheme performed equally to the NBAS scheme in real-time and out-performed the MIMO system without AS with up to 53% improvement on average channel capacity gain.

INTRODUCTION: The first hours of life are still a window of opportunity to identify at-risk newborns, but there are few studies focusing on early neonatal behavior.OBJECTIVE: Describe in a cross section the behavior of newborns born in conditions of low perinatal risk under 48 hours of extrauterine life and compare it with historical referents.METHOD: We studied 47 newborns with low perinatal risk, whose behavior was assessed using the Brazelton Neonatal Behavioral Assessment Scale (NBAS). Scores were obtained by item and area, and then were compared with 7 historical referents.RESULTS: Low scores were found, both by item and by areas in up to 25% of the population. NBAS scores were related primarily with age of newborn, weight, and height. Significant differences were found in relation to referents for which higher scores were reported in the majority of cases.CONCLUSIONS: A pattern was found of behavior, in which the same areas or items caused greater or lesser difficulty in achieving higher scores or those which required a certain level of adaptation to the environment, which would lead us to believe that our newborns should attain the scores seen in other populations as they advance in age.

Background The aim of this study was to determine the impact of umbilical cord arterial pH, gestational age, and birth weight on neurodevelopmental outcomes for preterm neonates. Methods We examined 112 neonates. Inclusion criteria were: Saturations greater than 88%, and heart rates between 100–205 beats per minute. Measurements We assessed several neurodevelopmental factors as part of the Brazelton Neonatal Behavioral Assessment Scale (NBAS), 4th edition, such as asymmetric tonic neck reflex (ATNR), motor maturity, response to sensory stimuli, habituation, and state regulation. Initial assessment parameters such as APGAR score and umbilical cord arterial pH were used to assess neonates. Results We found a strong correlation between the presence of the sucking reflex and umbilical cord arterial pH (r = 0.32; p = 0.018981). Umbilical cord arterial pH was also correlated with the presence of asymmetric tonic neck reflex (r = 0.27; p = 0.047124), cost of attention (r = 0.31; p = 0.025381) and general motor maturity (r = 0.34; p = 0.011741). Conclusions We found that the sucking reflex may be affected in infants with low umbilical cord arterial pH values. Practitioners and parents can use the NBAS to help determine neurodevelopmental factors and outcomes in preterm infants, possibly leading to safer and more effective feeding practices and interventions.

Introduction: About 15 million babies are born preterm annually, with every year almost 1 million dying from complications and survivors prone to lifetime disability. Yakson touch and kinaesthetic stimulation techniques have proven effective in minimizing the complications and disability of preterm delivery, but presently there is no standardized protocol for their application. The aim is to investigate the efficacy of Yakson touch in combination with kinaesthetic stimulation (YAKIN) on the motor and behavioural development of neonates at high risk of development delay in comparison to conventional handling.Material and Methods: Neonates will be recruited via parental consent from a recognized tertiary care teaching hospital for this two-group pretest-posttest design of randomized controlled trial (RCT), with allocation into either a control group (n=14) or experimental group (n=14) by block randomization method. The experimental group will receive Yakson touch and kinaesthetic stimulation, whilst the control group will receive conventional handling inclusive of developmental positioning and Kangaroo mother care. The duration of intervention will be five out of seven days. Neonatal behavioural assessment scale (NBAS) will be performed at baseline and then on the 7th day to ascertain the intervention effectiveness. Results: Data analysis will be done by Wilcoxon signed rank test/paired t-test and Mann Whitney U test/independent t-test will be done to compare the pre and post intervention score of NBAS within and between groups. The level of significance will be set as p<0.05.Conclusion: The present study may provide valuable information about early intervention to the neonatal physiotherapist, intensivist, nursing staff and parents of neonates.

Pituitary stalk interruption syndrome is a rare disorder characterized by an absent or ectopic posterior pituitary, interrupted pituitary stalk and anterior pituitary hypoplasia, as well as in some cases, a range of heterogeneous somatic anomalies. A genetic cause is identified in only around 5% of all cases. Here, we define the genetic variants associated with PSIS followed by the same pediatric endocrinologist. Exome sequencing was performed in 52 (33 boys and 19 girls), including 2 familial cases single center pediatric cases, among them associated 36 (69.2%) had associated symptoms or syndromes. We identified rare and novel variants in genes (37 families with 39 individuals) known to be involved in one or more of the following—midline development and/or pituitary development or function (BMP4, CDON, GLI2, GLI3, HESX1, KIAA0556, LHX9, NKX2-1, PROP1, PTCH1, SHH, TBX19, TGIF1), syndromic and non-syndromic forms of hypogonadotropic hypogonadism (CCDC141, CHD7, FANCA, FANCC, FANCD2, FANCE, FANCG, IL17RD, KISS1R, NSMF, PMM2, SEMA3E, WDR11), syndromic forms of short stature (FGFR3, NBAS, PRMT7, RAF1, SLX4, SMARCA2, SOX11), cerebellum atrophy with optic anomalies (DNMT1, NBAS), axonal migration (ROBO1, SLIT2), and agenesis of the corpus callosum (ARID1B, CC2D2A, CEP120, CSPP1, DHCR7, INPP5E, VPS13B, ZNF423). Seizures, intellectual disability, micropenis or cryptorchidism, seen at presentation are usually considered as secondary to the pituitary deficiencies. However, this study shows that they are due to specific gene mutations. PSIS should therefore be considered as part of the phenotypic spectrum of other known genetic syndromes rather than as specific clinical entity.

Streszczenie:
In this work, nitrogen-doped bamboo-based activated carbon (NBAC) was in situ synthesized from simply blending bamboo charcoal (BC) with sodamide (SA, NaNH2) powders and heating with a protection of nitrogen flow at a medium temperature. The elemental analysis and X-ray photoelectron spectra of as-synthesized NBAC showed quite a high nitrogen level of the simultaneously activated and doped samples; an abundant pore structure had also been determined from the NBACs which has a narrow size distribution of micropores (<2 nm) and favorable specific surface area that presented superb adsorption performance. The fcarbon dioxide (CO2) adsorption of the NBACs was measured at 0 °C and 25 °C at a pressure of 1 bar, whose capture capacities reached 3.68–4.95 mmol/g and 2.49–3.52 mmol/g, respectively, and the maximum adsorption could be observed for NBACs fabricated with an SA/BC ratio of 3:1 and activated at 500 °C. Further, adsorption selectivity of CO2 over N2 was deduced with the ideal adsorbed solution theory ((IAST), the selectivity was finally calculated which ranged from 15 to 17 for the NBACs fabricated at 500 °C). The initial isosteric heat of adsorption (Qst) of NBACs was also determined at 30–40 kJ/mol, which suggested that CO2 adsorption was a physical process. The results of ten-cycle adsorption-desorption experimentally confirmed the regenerated NBACs of a steady CO2 adsorption performance, that is, the as-synthesized versatile NBAC with superb reproducibility makes it a perspective candidate in CO2 capture and separation application.

Background: Premature infants with Peri-natal asphyxia leading to a hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy (HIE) are at greater risk for cerebral palsy. HIE grade II infants have long term neurological complications due to maladaptive brain wiring during NICU stay. Ladder approach, with graded stimulation program is administered by Occupational therapist, plays a vital role to minimize the maladaptive responses to environment. Objective of this study was to effect of Ladder Approach on preterm low birth weight Infants with HIE-2 as compared to conventional treatment. Design of this study was to Prospective Block Randomized Convenient Sampling Control Trial, Experimental design study. The study was carried out in the NICU and PU ward of Tertiary care hospital in metropolitan city from April 2015 to October 2016. The study subjects included a convenient sample of 30 preterm Low birth weight HIE-2 infants randomly selected into study or control groups. Neonatal behavioural Assessment scale (NBAS), Infant Neurological International Battery (INFANIB).Methods: The preterm infants from study group who received Ladder Approach and control group who received routine conventional care only. Outcome measures NBAS was at baseline and first follow up. INFANIB was administered at second follow up to assess neurodevelopment. Results: Showed that the premature infants of the study had significant difference in neuro behavioral status with mean for all subcomponents from to post intervention mean 39.6 in experimental group and from baseline mean of 24.3 to post intervention mean score of 33.2 in control group on neurobehavioral scale. Further neurodevelopmental status showed similar results on INFANIB in experimental group. Conclusions: The premature Infants with HIE grade 2, receiving ladder approach have shown more mature responses resulting into well-organized Neurobehavioral status, and resulted in improved brain wiring as evident in INFANIB.

Streszczenie:
National bibliographies serve a variety of functions, but act essentially as archival records of the national imprint. A number of factors may, however, alter our views of their purpose and affect our expectations of their long term future. Coverage and currency are often constrained by inadequate legal deposit mechanisms, but it may be questioned whether the national bibliography needs to include all publications or whether the national bibliographic agency (NBA) should act as a coordinator of current bibliographic data. Some NBAs have been driven to reduce the bibliographic content of their records as a result of declining income and increases in publishing output. Such measures have not met with universal approval, but appear to have resulted in improved currency. Technology continues to have an impact on the production of national bibliographies, with CD-ROMs, the UNIMARC format and, particularly, networking initiatives all facilitating greater availability of and access to bibliographic information. Networking may well render less relevant the local basis of national bibliographies, with possibilities for supranational coverage and the linking of document supply to bibliographic access. Closer cooperation with the book trade should result in the reuse of publishers' bibliographic data, rather than the NBA having to create bibliographic records from scratch. Politically, the concept of what constitutes a national grouping is evolving, with new alliances between countries as well as the disintegration of former federal states taking place. Important questions arise as to the future purpose of the national bibliography, the potential for cooperation with other producers of bibliographic data and whether the role of the national bibliography is likely to be usurped at the international level. NBAs must view these questions as an opening up of opportunities rather than as threats to their existence.

Streszczenie:
The purpose of this study was to compare results found using a total summative score of abnormal reflex responses with the results found using individual reflex scores. The 20 reflexes included as part of the Brazelton Neonatal Behavioral Assessment Scale (NBAS) were assessed on 196 neonates on the 1st and 2nd days postnatally. Differences due to of type of delivery, birth weight, whether their mothers were insulin-dependent diabetics or nondiabetics, and day of testing were assessed by using analysis of variance. The key results were that all effects found using the total reflex score were replicated with individual reflex scores and that individual reflex scores also revealed effects not shown using the total score. It was concluded that the individual reflex scores, rather than the total score, should be used when evaluating newborn reflex performance.
