Streszczenie:

Samples from different industrial grape cultivars were collected during the vintage season from the vineyard of the winery (the «Shabo» winery Company, located in the Odesa region, Ukraine). The following industrial cultivars of grapes were selected for the research: Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Sauvignon, Riesling Rhenish, Aligote, Rkatsiteli, Bastardo, Traminer, Telti Kuruk, Grinosh.

The grape cultivars were cultivated on the sandy soils in the district located between the Black Sea and the Dnestrovsky estuary. Grape must derived from different grape cultivars was placed into sterile glass flasks to half of the 450ml flask volume. Each flask was carefully closed with a rubber stopper with an injection needle in it. During the fermentation process, it was necessary to remove carbon dioxide, which was present as a result of active anaerobic fermentation processes in the grape must. At the end of grape must fermentation, pure yeast cultures were isolated using traditional microbiological methods by consistent inoculation of a sample into a Petri dish with a few modifications of nutrient selective agar for yeast isolation and cultivation. Primary yeast isolation was carried out using Inhibitory Mold Agar medium (Becton Dickinson Company, USA).

The yeast culture morphological properties were analyzed after the primary yeast culture isolation. Yeasts were identified by polymerase chain reaction (PCR) using universal yeast primers. After yeast culture identification, the next step in yeast cultivation was carried out on Wort Agar medium (Becton Dickinson Company, USA). Each isolated, and identified yeast culture was deposited in the Genebank of Japan, MAFF culture Collection, Tsukuba, Ibaraki, Japan and (NCYC) - Yeast Culture Collection (National Collection of Yeast Cultures, Institute of Food Research, Norwich, United Kingdom). Each yeast culture was tested for technological characteristics such as growth resistance to high temperature (+42°C) and low temperature (+6°C), growth at low pH 2.6–3.0 (acid resistance), growth in the presence of 5, 10, and 15% ethanol (ethanol resistance), and growth in the presence of high concentration potassium bisulfite (bisulfite resistance). Hydrosulfide synthesis (H2S gassing production) was studied in addition.

Parameters of cellular metabolism in yeast suspension, such as concentration of nitrogen, protein, triglicerides, enzymatic activity and total sugar (which include glucose, fructose, and galactose) were determined. Macro- and micro-element concentrations in fermented grape must, which contained pure yeast culture was determined and included: potassium, sodium, calcium, phosphorus, magnesium, iron, chlorides. In addition to identifying parameters of macro- and micro- element concentration in grape must during and following fermentation based on a principle of photometric analysis, carried out using a biochemical analyser Respons-920 (DiaSys Diagnostic Systems GmbH, Germany).

Laboratory selected Saccharomyces cerevisiae wine yeast showed high enzymatic activity with short lag phase. Since of fermentation started on third day concentration of Triglicerides, Protein (total), Potassium and Sodium increased and then level of Protein (total) on the 5th day of fermentation twice decreased. Trigliceride concentration on the 5th day of fermentation continued to increase. Concentration of Iron on the 5th day of fermentation increase in geometrical progression, concentration increase in 4-5 times. Contrary Chloride concentration on the 5th day of fermentation decreased in 3-4 times. Enzymatic activity on 3rd day of fermentation maximal for Lactate Dehydrogenase, Alanine aminotransferase, Aspartate aminotransferase, Phosphatase. Since of 5th day of fermentation Enzymatic activity for Lactate Dehydrogenase, Alanine aminotransferase, Aspartate aminotransferase 3-4 times. Especially level of Phosphatase activity very decreased in 6-7 times. Comparative assessment between our Laboratory selected Saccharomyces cerevisiae yeast culture and Dry active commercial Saccharomyces cerevisiae yeast culture did not showed any difference in enzymatic activity. Both groups showed high enzymatic activity on the third day from the start of fermentation and decreasing on the fifth day since of fermentation started.

Key words: wine yeast, enzymatic activity, cellular metabolism, Saccharomyces cerevisiae.

Purpose – In recent decades, a framework for management performance has proven to be an important management practice for achieving organisational performance excellence. In this sense, the purpose of this paper is to analyse how a specific company manages to achieve performance excellence through the attainment of the Brazilian National Quality Award. Design/methodology/approach – The study adopts a case-based approach using a single unit of analysis that might be considered a revealing case. The company studied is one of the largest companies in the information and financial analysis sector in Latin America and is part of a major worldwide corporation. Semi-structured interviews with senior managers and document analysis were used for data collection, with content and inductive analysis performed a posteriori. Findings – The main results outline the approach adopted by the company for each performance excellence award criterion and highlight some of the relevant organisational practices, especially those related to the nature of the company’s businesses. The findings show that the top management has been an essential driving force in transforming the managers at all levels into agents of improvement at the studied company. Additional key points are the deployment of the company’s “shared values” throughout the company and the implementation of a medium- and long-term comprehensive strategic plan focused on the award criteria. The company’s strategic system has been a driving force of its success. Research limitations/implications – For a more extensive empirical validation, further replications using other samples are needed to ensure the external validity of these findings. Originality/value – This paper is one of the few published studies discussing business excellence in emerging economies, which is not observed very often in developing markets. In addition, the paper focuses on promoting a culture of quality, a less common phenomenon in the economies of developing countries than in those of developed nations. Finally, this paper may be useful for practitioners and academics interested in the subject of quality and performance excellence.

Sustainable innovation at a company level drives economic, environmental and social improvement at a national level. Recent evidence has shown that businesses have increased the managerial attention and investments dedicated to sustainability. This paper aims to identify the most important drivers supporting companies to develop innovation activities oriented towards making the business models more sustainable. We explore microdata from the 2016 Innobarometer “EU Business Innovation Trends” (Flash Eurobarometer 433), covering 8635 companies from 29 countries. Using statistical classification methods, we identify the most important factors that are related to innovation activities that have the potential to shape the efficiency of raw material usage and environmental protection. The most relevant factors emphasized by our analysis are: innovation performance of the country (innovation), percentage of the company turnover invested in innovation activities, percentage of total turnover invested in acquisition of machines, equipment, software or licenses, percentage of total turnover invested in company reputation and branding, including web design, percentage of total turnover invested in software development.. Also, our analysis highlights the skills that are needed the most by companies in order to support their innovation activities targeting sustainability. Our results are useful for better understanding the attention that is given to sustainability by innovative companies, and what the main factors that boost innovation dedicated to sustainability are.

The field of bioethics is by definition based on the presupposition that questioning, arguing, interruption, and response are the means by which we evaluate the truth claims of medicine and healthcare policy. The field began with the premise that another voice, one of at least critique, if not dissension, was just what was needed in any arena in which hegemonic expertise held sway. The field of the humanities is similarly based on the idea that both the literary and cultural canon—and the disputation and resistance to the canon—are acknowledged, taught, and honored. The world is an ever-changing place with many demands on both companies and their employees. Finance individuals in a large multi-national company also have many demands placed on them as they grow and develop with the companies in which they work. A detailed analysis was performed on one large multi-national company in the agriculture sector to determine: 1. a framework to assess the skills that finance individuals need, 2. the desired skills and needs of the finance organization, 3. a current assessment of finance experiences and skills, and 4. the gaps between the current state and the desired skill level state. Although there are a number of criteria and competencies that can be used for assessment, this thesis focused on the critical skills and experiences for two key areas: 1. accounting and technical skills, and 2. analytical and business acumen skills. Skill set levels were measured at three criteria levels: Basic, Intermediate and Advanced. The desired state of the organization and the current state of the organization was defined and mapped on a Skill Set Grid and gaps were identified. When looking at the results, the data indicate that Company XYZ has several areas to explore further and refine. There were many gaps in the current state of the skill sets versus the desired state of the skill sets in both the areas of accounting and technical skills and analytical and business acumen skills. Further, the analytical and business acumen skills were significantly in need of further improvement. In addition, several areas of further refinement could occur that would further enhance the use of this skill assessment methodology. However, both the company and the employees who received feedback valued the information developed in this process.

AbstractDespite the increase in the number of studies that examine the cross-national variation in the policy configuration that allow a better work–family integration, very few look beyond the national levels. It is also crucial to examine occupational level welfare since companies may restrict or expand the existing national-level regulations, defining the “final availability” workers actually have toward various arrangements. In addition, companies may provide various additional arrangements through occupational policies which are not set out in the national-level agreements that are crucial in addressing reconciliation needs of workers. This chapter examines what types of arrangements are provided at the company level to address work–family demands of workers. It further provides a synthesis of studies that examine both national-level contexts and individual-level characteristics that explain who gets access to company-level family-friendly policies, which is linked to the possible outcomes of these policies.

Streszczenie:
Abstract“Necessary fictions,” a term coined by Homi K. Bhabha (The theory of reading, The Harvester Press, Brighton, 1989), refers to literature of postcolonial nations rewriting their history in such a way as to compensate for the lack of independence and agency in the colonial period. The Roma nation in East Central Europe has all the features of what in postcolonial studies is defined as the subaltern—no voice and representation of their own. This minority, due to a range of reasons, did not create such “necessary fictions” that we could compare to the postcolonial ones. The lack of such literary self-presentation in the national languages of East Central Europe has often been seen as a challenge for non-Romani or/and assimilated Roma writers. This was especially the case after World War II, when a massive action of enforced settlement of this nomadic nation took place across all communist countries, and there was a strong need to promote Roma culture as a—although not equivalent—part of local national landscapes. A need to “translate” Roma culture in the literary language was an important part of the state-planned assimilation. These translations were meant as the substitute for the authentic “necessary fictions” archive of literature. This trend continued after the political breakthrough of 1989, already in a different social context.

AbstractIn a business, inventory is frequently known as a source of contention. PT Petrokimia Gresik (PKG) is PT Pupuk Indonesia’s (Persero) subsidiary, an agro-industry company that the government always requires to meet national fertilizer supply to ensure food security and perform more efficient and cost-effective cost savings, through more efficient and economical use of facilities and infrastructure, including inventory management. At PKG, one of the most crucial inventory management issues is coal inventories, which have lately experienced a price increase of more than 200%. The trend of global coal prices has climbed to 2 times higher since 2021. The price of coal in Indonesia has risen from Rp. 500,000 per ton to Rp. 1,500,000 per ton, not to mention the world’s current state of war, the Russian invasion of Ukraine, which has increased fuel prices worldwide, including coal, which is in high demand by utility companies in Indonesia. While PT Petrokimia Gresik must continue to produce despite rising coal prices, inventory must be managed to achieve the lowest possible cost. Adopting the Economic Order Quantity (EOQ) method to improve the coal inventory management system needs to be considered. EOQ is an old theory, but we believe it is still relevant today. We will compare the company’s current coal inventory management to the EOQ method regarding efficiency, efficacy, and expenses associated with reordering, storage, and other factors. The study concludes that PKG’s coal supply system is relatively good, although there is still potential for improvement. The inventory management policies that are in place still refer to the prior period’s experience. Several causes contribute to coal overstock and understock issues, including a coal supply planning system that is not yet optimal. The proposed future improvement is to employ the Economic Order Quantity (EOQ) approach, which can save Rp 684,000,000 per year (average) in inventory expenditures. This demonstrates that the EOQ approach can save 6.7% per year in costs.

AbstractThe tourism sector is one of the priority sectors for national development. Lampung province has three potential tourism sectors that can be developed for regional development. However, Lampung still focuses on ecotourism which has not been properly developed. A lot of natural/maritime tourism is developed without a clear plan, so there is a misunderstanding in developing ecotourism which is undoubtedly dangerous for nature’s survival. Therefore, we need a model that could be the key to success in developing tourism potential in Lampung. The quadruple helix model can be seen as a refinement of the triple helix perspective, which focuses on practitioners from academia, government, and industry, and recognizes the increasing role played by society. Implementing the quadruple helix based on ecotourism needs to involve four parties, including academics, companies, government, and the community. Each party has its role, where academics play a role in the development of education, research, and community service in ecotourism. The company acts as an actor who develops the potential of tourism. The government plays an essential role as a regulator and facilitator in developing ecotourism. Finally, the community acts as a forum that unites the interests of business practitioners and stakeholders. Three different types of quadruple helix models can be used for collaborative innovation. The firm-driven living lab model is suitable for developing ecotourism in this research because it focuses on commercializing innovation. This model can be used to develop the commercialization of ecotourism innovations in Lampung province.

The evidence for agroecology’s impact on mitigation in LMICs is modest and emphasises carbon sequestration in soil and biomass. Agroforestry has the strongest body of evidence for impacts on mitigation. Locally relevant solutions produced through participatory processes and the co-creation of knowledge with farmers has improved climate change adaptation and mitigation. Knowledge gaps were found in regard to agricultural climate change mitigation, resilience to extreme weather, and agroecology approaches involving livestock, landscape redesign and multi-scalar analysis. There is a need to assess the performance of agricultural development using an outcome-based approach based on agroecological principles and climate change adaptation and mitigation indicators in order to guide donor and national investment. Moreover, direct investment and the scaling of practices for which the current evidence is strongest are needed. These include: (1) agricultural diversification, agroforestry and local adaptation; (2) increase action around resilience to extreme weather and climate change mitigation outcomes in LMICs and build the capacity of policymakers, scientists and institutions from the global South to work on these issues; and (3) compare the cost-effectiveness and outcomes of agroecology approaches with other agricultural development interventions at multiple scales, including the valuation of environmental and social benefits to better evaluate alternative approaches to sustainable agriculture.

Touretteshero is a disabled- and neurodivergent-led company. Our mission is to create an inclusive and socially just world for disabled and non-disabled people through our cultural practice. Covid-19 created significantly increased barriers to meaningful inclusive play opportunities for many disabled young people in the UK. This was evident in the closure of adventure playgrounds and the changing landscape of special educational needs and disability provision and policy in response to the pandemic. Within this context, Touretteshero partnered with the National Youth Theatre to design and deliver Digital Heroes of the Imagination (DHOTI). DHOTI is a radical disabled-led play project combining inclusive practice training for young creatives, distribution of creative resources to learning disabled young people, and hybrid digital-physical play sessions for disabled young people. This chapter reflects on the existing practices of inclusive play and considers how discourses of risk, resilience and the right to play are renewed by new forms of disabled-led play that emerged during the Covid-19 pandemic. In sharing key processes and learning from DHOTI and foregrounding disabled young people’s experiences, the chapter considers the creative and critical implications of the pandemic for inclusive play theory, education and practice.

AbstractThe aim of this chapter is to compare attitudes towards people over 70 as potential workers in the labour force in countries with different social welfare regimes, cultures, demographic and economic situations. Life course theory/perspective suggests a multidisciplinary paradigm. It suggests to examine how people live in different structural contexts and how economic, social and cultural changes influence attitudes towards older people and their presence in public life. The social context is defined in micro and macro scales (e.g. individual and family situations of persons in different stages of their life, their economic situation, occupational experience, social activities) within different societies. The basic assumption is that a particular life course stage of a person influences subsequent experiences and also attitudes towards seniors. As predicted age, gender, education, and life satisfaction are factors that differentiate attitudes. The differences found in 1990 are still observed to some extent in 2012. A significant proportion of respondents expect older people to withdraw to the private sphere. Some of them expect older people to be active in non-governmental organizations, informal assistance relationships, institutions established for older people which allow the needs of older people to be satisfied. In reality older people are kept on the margins of mainstream public life. The data of World Values Survey conducted in 2012 have been used in the analyses shown in the chapter. Eleven countries have been selected to show the situation in different countries with different history and welfare systems. The data are unique. The set of questions asked internationally in the wave of the study has not been included in the next waves of WVS. However, we may consider that the findings presented in the chapter are important for understanding the actual situation of older people, the perception of their social and cultural capital, the respondents’ willingness to see them as part of labour force and to be included in public life. The recent statistical data and reports show that older people are still poorly represented on decision-making positions in politics and economic institutions.

AbstractAccording to the United Nations (UN), at least 258 million people are moving across countries around the globe, consciously or unconsciously, in search of a safe and dignified life (IOM 2019; UN 2017). The international attempt to regulate these movements through the so-called Compacts seems unlikely to provide effective solutions. Often criticised as being non-binding instruments but with great potential in shaping states’ future behaviour (Türk 2018), the Compacts are not explicit in including SOGI minorities in the measures to be adopted through international cooperation for improving the management of migration and refugee flows, while respecting their human rights. It is noticeable that objective no. 7 (‘Address and reduce vulnerabilities in migration’) of the Global Compact related to migration refers to ‘victims of violence, including sexual and gender-based violence (…) [and] persons who are discriminated against on any basis’ as examples of vulnerable groups and, more generally, advances the development of gender-responsive migration policies (Atak et al. 2018). Equally, the Global Compact on Refugees pays attention in all fields to ‘sexual and gender-based violence’, while calling upon states to strengthen international efforts to prevent and combat it (paras. 5, 13, 51, 57, 59, 72 and 75). Yet, although this wording may be inclusive of SOGI, the Compacts avoided any specific reference or commitment in relation either to migrants who identify themselves as LGBTIQ+ or to SOGI claimants, perhaps owing to the need for the widest possible consensus among UN member states to secure the Compacts’ adoption. This represents a missed opportunity to raise awareness of SOGI asylum claimants’ needs at the universal level and speed up multilateral solutions to the movements across countries of people fleeing homophobia and transphobia.

Abstract A ‘free-standing company ‘ is a firm set up in one country for the purpose of doing business outside that country. The term ‘free-standing ‘ was adopted to contrast this type of investment over borders with the more familiar one of today ‘s multinational enterprise that begins with business operations at home and then moves abroad, building on its competence and needs and generally pursuing a related line of business. With the free-standing company, the individual founders established a new ‘free-standing ‘ unit in the home (headquarters) country with the immediate intention of operating outside that headquarters nation. My initial research on the free-standing company concentrated on the history of British-headquartered free-standing companies; quickly, however, it became apparent that other nations also were homes for such companies.

Abstract UkrGasVydobuvannya (UGV) is an E&P organization of the National Oil Company (NOC) of Ukraine – Naftogaz Group. UGV's existing gas fields represent one of the largest reservoir portfolios in the Eastern Europe; however, the current depletion level of the company's fields is also among the highest; the bulk of the fields have depletion levels between 70 and 90%. The E&P Company (UGV) has created a resource base development strategy to plan and deliver exploration activities and reservoir management based on industry best practices to maintain and grow the company's production and bookable reserves for years to come. The subsurface transformation program (including both exploration and reservoir management domains) addresses the actions taken to ensure success for the Strategy. Actions consider not only increase in exploration acreage or acquiring new fields and prospects, but also the organizational, cultural, technological and process level changes across the subsurface domain in the company. The program is still in the early implementation phase; however, the first material results are confirming the validity of the program: Organization re-design per industry standards: asset development teams were established and aligned with the portfolio priorities; Digital database of subsurface data is being created and systemic reservoir surveillance is being executed; Growth source secured: Black Sea, new onshore unconventional and conventional licenses; Modern exploration practices, including risk-based probabilistic exploration drilling decisions and launching of Petroleum Systems Analysis and Basin modeling; Reshaping the obsolete rigid structure of the research institute into a modern R&D center; and, Professional development program tailored to build-up the modern skills and competencies of company's subsurface teams. These and other important steps of the transformation will ultimately help the company to ensure a healthy reserves replacement ratio and increase the production share of greenfields in its portfolio. This case study can serve as a blueprint for any medium-sized subsurface organization (especially in NOCs) that faces similar resource base challenges and wishes to improve its production performance.

Executive Summary In this session we will aim to present a possible pathway for National Energy Companies (NECs) to promote country inward investment that supports climate resilience, a managed transition from hydrocarbon overdependence and net zero goals. We will aim to address how NECs, in close cooperation with their respective Ministry, can develop country analytics that lead to a comprehensive national energy plan that prioritizes climate resilience, renewable energy sources and energy efficiency measures. We will show how countries such as Namibia understood that they have a once-in-a-generation opportunity to significantly reduce their emissions by leveraging their natural resources to attract muchneeded foreign direct investment and how they moved decisively to develop a portfolio of complimentary infrastructure projects, with a vision to create a hub of renewable assets and effectively transforming their country. The complexities of the different roles that the NECs have to play today are well recognized. They need to protect core energy assets, revenues and existing cash flows, create jobs and ensure energy security. The NECs are also expected to confidently step towards a net zero and sustainable future on behalf of their country. Global governments expect NECs to deliver emissions reduction at a country level, the practical steps for energy transition and, to a large extent, the delivery of the National Determined Contribution. In this current environment, NECs around the world are starting to pivot towards climate resilience and renewable energy investments. The NECs must compete for access to capital and participation in the race for a "just" transition. In 2019, the IMF issued a report calling for more transparency in the management and governance of National Oil Companies (NOC) – calling them the "hidden economic giants". Remaining opaque or "hidden" is no longer an option. In a world that demands transparency which addresses ESG and sustainability commitments, capital markets expect consistent reporting. This is a big task for organizations which still face major shortcomings on their reporting practices, and in some cases, have no history of environmental reporting. To complicate matters further, there is currently no universal standard for external reporting of environmental data, so it is for the individual NECs to determine which data analytics and insights will allow access to energy transition finance at competitive rates. There is general agreement though that data driven investment decision making that allows for transparency, stakeholder engagement and private/public sector collaboration is now needed more than ever for capital allocation and access. In this context we will aim to present how NECs can use historic static and dynamic operational data analytics to understand and address risk and opportunity and successfully develop their energy investment decision frameworks.

When assessing the company’s financial position and performance, we most often use financial indicators such as net income, rate of return on assets, rate of return on equity, cash flow and the like. However, dynamic business conditions have brought the need to use an integrated (composite) indicator, especially for a comparative long-term analysis of several companies. The composite indicator consists of individual indicators (variables) and allows for a comprehensive assessment of performance in order to get a full picture of the company’s business that all stakeholders can understand. The application of this indicator is possible at the national and international levels. Therefore, this paper aims to point out how performance measurement using a composite indicator facilitates the assessment of business operations, but also investors’ decision-making.

Electric Power Industry of Montenegro AD Niksic (EPCG) is a national electricity company established for the purpose of performing the economic activity of production and supply of electricity, as well as other activities prescribed by the statute of the EPCG, all with the purpose of meeting the electricity needs of Montenegrin consumers. Until July 2016, the EPCG included distribution, as a separate functional unit, which by its independence in the limited liability company was named the Montenegrin Distribution System Operator (EPCG). In 2021, EPCG founded the company EPCG – Solar gradnja, and the Directorate for Renewable Energy Sources was created within EPCG. The maintenance of the ERP system of this company is partly covered by the EPCG IT sector. Simple, efficient and high-quality performance of complex business processes, to employees of these two companies are enabled by implementation of an integrated ERP system based on Oracle eBS. The process of adapting and improving the ERP system is a continuous process started on the day of its release on March 7, 2011. Raising the functionality of the system to a higher level is achieved by the daily requirements of the users of the system and the realization of them in cooperation with external partners, thus creating a product that supports the work processes and follows modern trends in the field of IT. In this paper we will show you how to operate and control the storage of goods using the ERP system. The system consists of an Oracle e- Business Suite (14 modules) and a CMS system (9 applications), one of which is a stock module. The theme of the paper is based on the inventory management process. In particular, we focused on customization that enables one to procure what is needed, when it is needed, and that there is never more than is necessary in the stock of goods, a projection of the need for materials in the future. The eBS segment, Inventory Management, generates numerous documents in a controlled manner, enabling quality implementation of legal norms and work processes in EPCG and EPCG as well as in the state of Montenegro.

Abstract As a resourced based economy, Malaysia relies heavily on the energy oil, and gas industry - a critical sector contributing to the economic growth of the Malaysian economy; which makes up in the range of 20% - 25% of the total gross domestic product (GDP) of Malaysia as of 2017. No analysts can properly predict prices of the future, with the highs and lows of crude and natural gas and renewables as the fuel of the future and are perhaps new way of things. This "new normal" in which countries, including Malaysia, must learn to adapt in a more agile manner to the "new way of work" of increased productivity and efficiency (de Graauw, McCreery, & Murphy, 2015). In adapting to the new normal, measures of increased productivity must continue to be pushed forward and implemented. Energy companies and services provider still need to continue with exploration and development (E&P) operations and activities to meet long term strategic objectives and demands of the nation, in line with the aspirations of the national oil company, however, it needs to add more value to every dollar spent as margins have continued to shrink and reduce profit margins of energy producers. This is where Digital Transformation comes into play and the urgency for implementation has gone from novelty solutions to critical business survival. Changing industry trends such as Industrial Revolution 4.0 have made it more prevalent than ever to make better use of capital at a time when productivity is essential. At the same time, the industry needs to continue to explore and develop to meet long-term demands, which continues to grow albeit slower than before.

During this period of time, isolated efforts from the different subsidiary bodies (upstream, midstream, and downstream) have been made regarding this matter, including the implementation of powerful software tools. However, due to several factors, none of these has provided an optimum solution for the company until now as they do not serve specific needs from PEMEX according to the country’s social and geographical environments. Besides that, a different software tool has been used by each subsidiary body, generating variations in practice and dissimilar criteria when assessing risk. A project sponsored by the Ministry of Energy in Mexico and the National Council of Science and Technology seeks to address these issues by developing a unique and customized software solution for pipeline risk assessment in PEMEX. Taking into account the technological development, the higher level of professional competence and knowledge of employees, the needs of the market, there is a need to introduce work under voltage, which will result in a significant reduction in the number of serious and minor injuries at work, and significant economic effects. Working under voltage is an available opportunity for quantitatively and qualitatively increasing the use of existing material and personnel resources in the electrical distribution system, while increasing the security of electricity supply. In this way, it significantly contributes to the reputation of the company in the public. In this paper, an analysis of national regulations, internal acts in the field of occupational health and safety at the employer, as well as work procedures, was performed, all with regard to the creation of assumptions for the introduction of work under voltage. The advantages of working under voltage are presented from the aspect of improving the quality of electricity supply, financial advantages, with a special focus on increasing work safety. The method of introducing live work, tools and equipment for live work, standards and deadlines for testing the said equipment are also presented. Adopting appropriate legal regulations, regulations, procedures and instructions, acquiring appropriate equipment, training employees and appropriate organization of work, would create the basic prerequisites for the application of the technology of working under voltage in CEDIS, all with the aim of creating safer working conditions, increasing the safety of exploitation system to the satisfaction of users, positive financial aspects and ultimately the growth of the company's reputation.

Infrastructure equity is an immediate concern with levees, constituting the backbone of the U.S. protection against flooding. Flooding patterns are exacerbated by anthropogenic climate change in several regions, posing a significant risk to the economy, safety, and well-being of the nation. The evolving risk of flooding is shown to disproportionately affect historically underserved and socially vulnerable communities (HUSVCs). Here we compare the sociodemographic and socioeconomic composition of leveed and non-leveed U.S. communities and show a substantial overrepresentation of HUSVCs in leveed areas at the state, regional, and national levels. Further, we analyze the proportion of communities designated as “disadvantaged” in leveed versus non-leveed areas, revealing a substantially larger population of disadvantaged communities residing behind levees. Our analyses show that nationally, Hispanic are the most overrepresented population in leveed areas yielding a disparity percentage of 39.9%, followed by Native American (18.7%), Asian (17.7%), and Black (16.1%) communities. Communities characterized by low education, poverty, and disability exhibit a disproportionately higher presentation of 27.8%, 20.4%, and 5.4% in leveed areas across the U.S. In 43 states, disadvantaged communities are overrepresented behind levees, with a national disparity percentage of 40.6%. At the regional level, the highest disparity was observed in the Northeast (57.3%), followed by the West (51.3%), Southeast (38%), Midwest (29.2%), and Southwest (25%). The findings can enable decision- and policy-makers to identify hotspots within HUSVCs that need to be prioritized for enhancing the integrity and climate adaptation of their levee systems.

This report is the outcome of an Inter-American Development Bank (IDB)regional public good (RPG) that different Latin American and Caribbean countries helped to create by identifying the information they needed to perfect the decision-making process on matters of trade and integration. The mechanism that the IDB foresaw is a three-way process, in which decisions are made in partnership with technical institutions and countries, which share their experience and knowledge of social demands. In this case, the countries of the region played a key role in designing an opinion poll on trade and integration, the results of which we compare with national statistical indicators. This was made possible by the strategic partnership between the Institute for the Integration of Latin America and the Caribbean (IDB/INTAL), part of the Integration and Trade Sector, and Latinobarómetro, marking the start of the dialogue between two databases with very specific features. The first of these is the highly complete information on trade and integration that INTAL has acquired over its 51-year history. The second, the public perceptions that Latinobarómetro, a pioneering public opinion poll, has been measuring in the region for over two decades. Cross-referencing the results of over 20,000 exclusive surveys that were carried out in 18 Latin American countries with national statistics has helped create a powerful tool for designing integration and trade strategies. Comparing citizens' opinions and national statistics allows researchers to find correlations and asymmetries between public perceptions and the region's actual performance, thus contributing to improving planning and impact assessment in public policy design. We believe that integration processes should reflect both dimensions: they must not overlook classic indicators but they also need to include the voice of the people of Latin America, which is an essential part of any regional strategy seeking to construct a form of governance that is underpinned by the demands of society.

The growing demand for sustainable energy drives the need for a local workforce to fulfill the demand for experienced and skilled technicians and professionals at various levels, who are capable of designing, developing, installing, operating, advising about, maintaining, and managing the aforementioned energy related systems. Many Caribbean countries have goals to diversify their energy matrices (to reduce fossil fuel dependency and comply with Intended Nationally Determined Contributions). In addition, it is expected that increased training and education in information and communication technologies (ICT) is crucial, as ICT skills are particularly important for the development of a “green” and “smart” economy. Evidence suggests that low skills in the workforce make it difficult for firms to innovate. In the Caribbean, the private sector has reported weak linkages with universities and difficulties in collaboration with research institutions and other companies. Limited collaboration and integration therefore, negatively impacts innovation and reduces opportunities for co-creation and knowledge dissemination. As new technologies emerge, so do new business opportunities, driving the need for supporting entrepreneurship both for small businesses and medium and larger organizations that need to innovate their business models to adapt to a changing business environment. To contribute and address the above needs, the BRIDGE Program was launched in May 2014 and concluded in June 2017. The program focused on the development of human capital, while encouraging gender equality in order to meet the expected future demand for technicians, professionals and entrepreneurs in the sustainable energy (SE) and ICT sectors. The program covered Jamaica, Barbados and Trinidad and Tobago and this publication reports on the findings, achievements, and remaining needs.

Streszczenie:
Objectives. This Technical Brief aims to identify: 1) frameworks that describe organizational context and process characteristics relevant to cancer care delivery research, and compare these frameworks to the Integrated Framework recently developed by National Cancer Institute staff Weaver, Breslau, and colleagues; 2) approaches used to improve understanding of how organizational characteristics are described, measured, and analyzed in the context of cancer screening, diagnosis, or treatment; and 3) organizational context and process characteristics examined in studies assessing cancer care; and 4) evidence gaps and future research needs to advance the science of assessing the effects of organizational characteristics on cancer care. Review methods. We integrated discussions with Key Informants and syntheses of evidence from searches of literature published from 2010 to 2023, using PubMed, CINAHL, SCOPUS, PsycINFO, and the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, as well as select grey literature. Findings. We identified 17 frameworks that were developed or applied to examine the effects of organizational characteristics (including structures, context, and processes) on cancer care delivery. Our analysis of these frameworks supported the comprehensiveness of the Integrated Framework, though a few identified characteristics were not explicitly included in the Integrated Framework. We found 90 studies that take various approaches to describe, measure, and analyze organizational characteristics in the context of cancer care research. Of these, we identified 25 that tested associations between organization characteristics and screening, diagnosis, or treatment outcomes, and described measurement in detail. Cancer-related studies that include organizational measures have used a wide range of study designs and focused mostly on structural characteristics (e.g., type, size), total care models such as the patient-centered medical home, and processes of improvement project implementation and barrier assessment (such as guideline implementation). We identified specific organizational measures examined in the cancer care literature, noting little standardization of measures across studies and a need for multilevel inquiry. Our discussions with Key Informants and review of the literature indicated that many characteristics of healthcare organizations are relevant to cancer care delivery and useful to assess when precisely defined. Studies with stronger designs and more rigorous organizational measurement are needed to better determine the effects of organizational characteristics on the outcomes of cancer care. Conclusion. Our findings suggest that the Integrated Framework generally covers relevant organizational context and process characteristics. The literature has a wide array of studies examining organizational characteristics, but few studies directly associate organizational factors with clinical outcomes. Research and collaboration are needed to improve measurement of organizational factors, to clarify our understanding of multilevel aspects of organizational context and process and how they affect care, and to standardize terminology and measures.

Kelly, Luke. Policy and Administrative Barriers to IDPs Accessing Basic Services. Institute of Development Studies (IDS), lipiec 2021. http://dx.doi.org/10.19088/k4d.2021.112.

Streszczenie:
Literature shows that IDPs struggle to access services, which has an impact on their ability to live healthy and fulfilling lives. In the field of health, IDPs frequently have worse outcomes than both host community and refugees. This rapid literature review finds evidence of a number of policy and administrative barriers to access of services for internally displaced persons (IDPs). IDPs remain citizens of the countries in which they are displaced, and the national authorities retain responsibility for meeting their basic rights. However, their displacement, loss of livelihoods and assets, lack of documentation, as well as discrimination against them, lack of protection under international law, lack of policy to address their needs, poor services and conflict or disaster conditions, can all make it more difficult for IDPs to access basic services than non-displaced citizens. There is relatively little literature systematically addressing the issue of administrative and policy barriers to service access among IDPs. Much of the literature discusses IDPs alongside refugees (who have a different legal status and access to different national and international support), or discusses the whole range of difficulties facing IDPs but does not focus on administrative or policy barriers. The literature frequently does not compare IDPs and other citizens and service users. Nevertheless, policy and administrative barriers are discussed, ranging from analysis of international instruments on IDPs to documentation procedures in particular countries. Much of the literature shows the prevalence of disease, lack of school attendance, limited provision of services etc. faced by IDPs, but does not discuss the policy and administrative barriers in detail.

Streszczenie:
Standard water affordability measures that only account for expenditure on piped water are unlikely to adequately capture the situation of all consumers in developing countries, who often experience water service quality issues and must rely on coping strategies. We construct and compare a series of water affordability ratios including coping costs, and we also adjust these ratios by normative judgements about the need for coping strategies. We use nationally representative household-level data from 18 countries in Latin America and the Caribbean, providing, for the first time, a regional perspective on water affordability. We show that the share of income devoted to water expenses substantially increases when we consider coping costs, particularly affecting the bottom 20% of the income distribution. These findings should be of interest to policy makers aiming at promoting access to safe and affordable water as we also identify the characteristics associated with water affordability issues.

Streszczenie:
Increasingly, both industry and academia, in fields ranging from biology and social sciences to computing and engineering, are driven by data (Provost & Fawcett, 2013; Wixom, et al, 2014); and both commercial success and academic impact are dependent on having access to data. Many organizations collecting data lack the expertise required to process it (Hazen, et al, 2014), and, thus, pursue data sharing with researchers who can extract more value from data they own. For example, a biosciences company may benefit from a specific analysis technique a researcher has developed. At the same time, researchers are always on the search for real-world data sets to demonstrate the effectiveness of their methods. Unfortunately, many data sharing attempts fail, for reasons ranging from legal restrictions on how data can be used—to privacy policies, different cultural norms, and technological barriers. In fact, many data sharing partnerships that are vital to addressing pressing societal challenges in cities, health, energy, and the environment are not being pursued due to such obstacles. Addressing these data sharing challenges requires open, supportive dialogue across many sectors, including technology, policy, industry, and academia. Further, there is a crucial need for well-defined agreements that can be shared among key stakeholders, including researchers, technologists, legal representatives, and technology transfer officers. The Northeast Big Data Innovation Hub (NEBDIH) took an important step in this area with the recent "Enabling Seamless Data Sharing in Industry and Academia" workshop, held at Drexel University September 29-30, 2016. The workshop brought together representatives from these critical stakeholder communities to launch a national dialogue on challenges and opportunities in this complex space.
