Streszczenie:
This paper introduces an optical wave filter, which uses gratings at 45? or 135? inclined grating lines that avoid any resonance's. Therefore, many more options to form the filter shape exist. In general, the filter design can be traced to that of transversal filters (finite impulse response filter, FIR filter). Such an integrated optical wave filter is characterized by steep filter slopes and a narrow pass band (less then 01nm) combined with a high stop band attenuation (more than 40dB) and a linear phase response in the pass band. Compared to conventional Bragg grating filters, the inclined grating line filters can have a flatter pass band and steeper filter skirts related to the width of the pass band. In general, the filter's realization is possible using any optical material. In view of the excellent optical properties the semiconductor material system InP/InGaAsP is used for manufacturing the filter.

First time study for development of relationship between design and fabrication of thin film narrow-pass filters simulated using the Essential Macleod optical coating design program and verified through experimental data. In thin film narrow band-pass filter's design, can design better filter by changing some parameters, but the theoretical designs are often difficult to achieve. The sensitivity of thin film narrow band-pass filters are mainly influenced by the refractive index of cavity layers, number of mirror layers, interference order and number of cavities. Based on analysis of all these aspects, laws of influence are obtained. A narrow band-pass filter with super wide rejection band was designed and fabricated to verify the simulation results, showing a good agreement between the experimental and theoretical observations.

This paper presents new microstrip devices as single band bandpass and multi band bandstop filters. The proposed filters use slotted patch microstrip resonator based on quasi fractal geometry, simulated by AWR12 software package. Both filters have quasi elliptic frequency response, designed at centre frequency of 2.437 GHz for bandpass filter and at band frequencies of 2.434, 4.032, 4.976 and 5.638 GHz GHz respectively, for multi bandstop filter. All filters are employed using RT/Duroid 6010.8 LM substrate of dielectric constant and 1.27 mm dielectric thickness. Simulation results show that the designed quasi fractal bandpass filter has very narrow fractional bandwidth of 0.38 % which is very rare in microstrip filter design. On the other hand, the projected bandstop filter offers multi narrow rejection bands that is useful in broadband wireless schemes influencing from fixed interferences. Both filters present satisfactory S11 and S21 responses besides smallness properties that stand for interesting features of the newest wireless applications. The simulated and measured frequency responses for both designed filters are in good agreement.

The response of chrysanthemum plants to varying R:FR ratios and phytochrome photoequilibrium values (Ø = Pfr/Ptot) was evaluated by growing plants under 6%, or 40% CuSO4 and water spectral filters. Using a narrow band-width (R = 655-665 and FR = 725-735 nm) and a broad bandwidth (R = 600-700 and FR = 700-800 nm) for R:FR calculation, 6% CUSO4 filter transmitted light with greater R:FR (3.9) and grater Ø (0.81) than 40% CuSO4 or water filters. Light transmitted through 40% CuSO4 and water filters had a similar narrow band R:FR ratio (1.2), but the broad band R:FR ratio (2.1) of 40% CuSO4 filter was higher than water filter. Estimated Ø value was similar for both water and 40% CuSO4 filters. Final height of plants grown in CuSO4 chambers was about 30% less than the plants in control chambers. The results suggest that broad band R:FR ratio correlated more closely to plant response than the narrow band R:FR ratio.

Abstract Direct coupled filters have narrow stopband due to higher order modes passband. A compact dual layer band pass filter is proposed with wide stop band. The proposed filter provides the return loss of 16.87db and insertion loss of 2.5dB at the passband frequency 20.9 GHz. The filter size is half of the conventional direct coupled filters. The stop band covers up to 40 GHz with insertion loss below 35dB. The filter has no slot which makes it immune to the EMI/EMC problems.

Streszczenie:
Current substrate-integrated-waveguide (SIW) filter design methodologies can be extremely computational and time-inefficient when a narrow-band filter is required. A new approach to designing compact, highly selective narrow-band filters based on smartly positioned obstacles is thus presented here. The proposed modal-cancellation approach is achieved by translating or eliminating undesired modes within the frequency of interest. This is performed by introducing smartly located obstacles in the maxima and nulls of the modes of interest. This approach is different from the traditional inverter technique, where a periodic number of inductive irises are coupled in a ladder configuration to implement the desired response of an nth-order filter, and significantly reduces the complexity of the resulting filter structure. Indeed, the proposed method may be used to design different filters for several frequency bands and various applications. The methodology was experimentally verified through fabricated prototypes.

Using Kappa substrate material, a compact microstrip diplexer is developed in this research with two separate channels based on the coupled junction and two bandpass filters functioning in independent frequency bands. Each filter comprises an input/output feed line and a number of resonators with different impedances. The diplexer’s frequency response was modeled and optimized using the Sonnet EM solver. At 2.84 and 4.08 GHz for TX/RX channels, the insertion loss is better than 1 dB for both channels, while the return loss values are 21.2 and 17 dB for transmit and receive filters, respectively. The microstrip diplexer has miniature dimensions of 24 mm × 18 mm with highly narrow bands and band isolation of more than 35 dB. The simulated scattering parameters are in agreement with the measured ones.

Design narrow-band compact filters, based on high-quality waveguide-dielectric resonators with anisotropic materials is the subject of this paper. Filter represents a segment of a rectangular waveguide rotated around the longitudinal axis of the waveguide 90 degrees and containing one or more dielectric inserts that completely fill the resonator along the narrow wall of the waveguide and partially along the wide one. A distinctive feature of the proposed filter is higher slope steepness of the amplitude-frequency characteristic, and high manufacturability in the centimeter range. The designed narrow-band filter satisfies contradictory requirements: it combines narrow bandwidth (≈ 0.1% of center frequency <em>f</em>0) with low passband insertion loss (≤ 1 dB).

Experiments were conducted to correlate the response of chrysanthemum [Dendrathema ×grandiflorum (Ramat.) Kitamura] plants to light environment based on various quantitative light quality parameters by growing plants under 6% or 40% CuSO4 and water spectral filters. Using a narrow band width (R = 655-665 and FR = 725-735 nm) or a broad band width (R = 600-700 and FR = 700-800 nm) for R: FR ratio calculation, 6% CuSO4 filter transmitted light with a higher R: FR ratio than 40% CuSO4 or water filters. Light transmitted through 40% CuSO4 and water filters had similar narrow band R: FR ratios (≈1.2), but the broad band R: FR ratio (2.0) of 40% CuSO4 filter was higher than that of water filters. The estimated phytochrome photoequilibrium (ϕ) value varied considerably with the photochemical properties of phytochrome used for estimations. Final height and internode length of plants grown in 6% or 40% CuSO4 chambers was ≈30% less than of plants in corresponding control chambers. Leaf and stem dry weights were reduced by light transmitted through CuSO4 filters. The results suggest that broad band R: FR ratio correlated more closely to above plant responses than the narrow band R: FR ratio. Blue (B): R and B: FR ratios (not absolute amount of blue wavelengths) correlated well with plant response, suggesting that involvement of blue light should not be ignored in expressing plant response to light transmitted through CuSO4 filters. At present, the presentation of complete spectral data would be the most useful in explaining plant response to light environment.

This study presents a new construction design of a distributed Bragg reflector (DBR) filter and a Fabry–Pérot (FP) filter by using needle technique as a synthesis method. The optimized DBR and FP filters having a proper number of layers with controlling thickness TiO2/SiO2 are utilized to transmit only a certain narrow band of wavelengths while blocking the others. As a proof of concept, the filters are designed to selectively transmit only a very narrow band of wavelength at 780 nm which is the near infrared (NIR) fluorescent emission from Alexa Fluor 750 dye. The obtained results show that the optimized filters represent advanced spectral performance which can be used to improve the sensitivity and the imaging contrast in fluorescence microscopy.

Streszczenie:
A novel scheme for integrated optical filters with narrow bandwidth is proposed to dramatically improve its compactness on the basis of slow-light waveguide, which provides a large optical path in a short geometry length. By introducing the one-dimensional grating waveguide (ODGW), a kind of slow-light waveguide, into a micro-ring resonator (MRR), the area of MRR is reduced by three orders of magnitude compared to the MRR without ODGW. As a proof of concept, an ultra-compact on-chip filter with narrow bandwidth of 2.1 pm (263 MHz) is conceived by cascading six MRRs with ODGW. Additionally, the designed optical filter shows excellent performances of roll-down speed, out-of-band signal suppression, and in-band ripple. Our proposal offers a promising solution to miniaturize the integrated optical filters with narrow bandwidth, and hence improve the integration density of on-chip photonic networks.

Streszczenie:
The thin film narrow band-pass filters are widely used in precision optical systems such as gas detection, fiber optic communication and optical analysis instruments due to their unique optical characteristics. However, as the applications become more widespread, the problems of regulating the half bandwidth and cut-off bandwidth of the thin film narrow band-pass filters based on the Fabry-Perot (F-P) principle are becoming more apparent. In this work, we took the thin film narrow band-pass filter with a center wavelength of 450 nm as the design target, and comprehensively optimized the film system based on standard F-P principle to obtain the film systems with different half bandwidths and their systematic adjustment methods. The half bandwidth can be adjusted effectively by using the conventional half bandwidth control methods such as increasing the interference orders and the number of mirror layers or the cavities, but it is quite difficult to accurately obtain the filters with various half bandwidths since the adjustment range is too large. Based on the principle of equivalent refractive index, the optical thicknesses of the high and low refractive index film layers of the mirror layers were modified in an unconventional way, and thus the half bandwidth can be flexibly adjusted. Moreover, the standard F-P narrow band-pass filter film system was also modified by the principle of induced transmission film system to achieve a significant broadening of the cut-off bandwidth.

Streszczenie:
Abstract In the paper a novel method for filter design based on the distributed maximal flatness method is presented. The proposed approach is based on the method used to design the most common FIR fractional delay filter - the maximally flat filter. The MF filter demonstrates excellent performance but only in a relatively narrow frequency range around zero frequency but its magnitude response is no greater than one. This ,,passiveness” is the reason why despite of its narrow band of accurate approximation, the maximally flat filter is widely used in applications in which the adjustable delay is required in feedback loop. In the proposed method the maximal flatness conditions forced in standard approach at zero frequency are spread over the desired band of interest. In the result FIR filters are designed with width of the approximation band adjusted according to needs of the designer. Moreover a weighting function can be applied to the error function allowing for designs differing in error characteristics. Apart from the design of fractional delay filters the method is presented on the example of differentiator, raised cosine and square root raised cosine FIR filters. Additionally, the proposed method can be readily adapted for variable fractional delay filter design regardless of the filter type.

Streszczenie:
In this work filter structures that decrease the required number of multipliers and adders for implementation of linear-phase FIR filters using frequency-response masking techniques are introduced. The basic idea of the proposed structures is that identical subfilters are used. This leads to the same arithmetic structure can be multiplexed in the implementation, reducing the number of required multipliers and adders. The subfilters are mapped using the folding transformation to obtain an area-efficient time-multiplexed (or pipeline/interleaved) implementation. Both narrow-band and wide-band frequency-response masking as well as arbitrary bandwidth frequency-response masking techniques are considered. The filter design is discussed and for each filter structure the limits on the specifications are derived. Designed examples show the usefulness of the proposed structures.

Standard KTP laser (potassium titanyl phosphate) wavelength-specific protective eyewear often impairs visualization of tissue changes during laser treatment. This sometimes necessitates eyewear removal to evaluate tissue effects, which wastes time and poses safety concerns. The objective was to determine if “virtual” or “electronic” chromoendoscopy filters, as found on some endoscopy platforms, could alleviate the restricted visualization inherent to protective eyewear. A KTP laser was applied to porcine laryngeal tissue and recorded via video laryngoscopy with 1 optical (Olympus Narrow Band Imaging) and 8 digital (Pentax Medical I-scan) chromoendoscopy filters. Videos were viewed by 11 otolaryngologists wearing protective eyewear. Using a discrete visual analog scale, they rated each filter on its ability to improve visualization,. No filter impaired visualization; 5 of 9 improved visualization. Based on statistical significance, the number of positive responses, and the lack of negative responses, narrow band imaging and the I-scan tone enhancement filter for leukoplakia performed best. These filters could shorten procedure time and improve safety; therefore, further clinical evaluation is warranted.

Streszczenie:
Folded quad-mode stub-loaded loop resonators (QMSLLRs) are proposed for realizing both bandpass and dual-band bandpass filters with compact dimensions. The QMSLLR is a folded square loop loaded with four short stubs, providing structure symmetry in both transversal and longitudinal directions. Determined by the lengths of the loaded stubs, the four resonant frequencies as analyzed with even-odd mode method can be either distributed in one passband with equal space, or in two passbands with a guard band in between, for realizing a single-band bandpass filter or a dual-band bandpass filter, respectively. For both the input and output couplings, two perpendicular feeding lines are parallel coupled to the QMSLLR at one corner. The measure results prove that the structure is suitable for the design of a medium band or even narrow band bandpass filters with compact dimensions.

This paper investigates the use of a miniaturized filter based on a triangular lattice of holes in a photonic crystal (PhC) slab. The plane wave expansion method (PWE) and finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) techniques were utilized to analyze the dispersion and transmission spectrum, as well as the quality factor and free spectral range (FSR) of the filter. A 3D simulation has demonstrated that for the designed filter, an FSR of more than 550 nm and a quality factor of 873 can be attained by adiabatically coupling light from a slab waveguide into a PhC waveguide. This work designs a filter structure that is implemented into the waveguide and is suitable for a fully integrated sensor. The small size of the device provides a strong potential for the realization of large arrays of independent filters on a single chip. The fully integrated character of this filter has further advantages such as reducing power loss in coupling light from sources to filters and also from filters to waveguides. The ease of fabrication is another benefit of completely integrating the filter.

Streszczenie:
Adaptive subtraction is a key element in predictive multiple-suppression methods. It minimizes misalignments and amplitude differences between modeled and actual multiples, and thus reduces multiple contamination in the data set after subtraction. Due to the high crosscorrelation between their waveforms, the main challenge resides in attenuating multiples without distorting primaries. As they overlap on a wide frequency range, we split this wide-band problem into a set of more tractable narrow-band filter designs, using a 1D complex wavelet frame. This decomposition enables a single-pass adaptive subtraction via complex, single-sample (unary) Wiener filters, consistently estimated on overlapping windows in a complex wavelet transformed domain. Each unary filter compensates for amplitude differences within its frequency support, and can correct small and large misalignment errors through phase and integer delay corrections. This approach greatly simplifies the matching filter estimation and, despite its simplicity, narrows the gap between 1D and standard adaptive 2D methods on field data.

Streszczenie:
Based on the thin-film bulk acoustic resonator (FBAR) technology, a new narrow-band bulk acoustic wave (BAW) filter for Beidou B1 band receiver is designed. The aluminum nitride thin film is used as a piezoelectric layer. The Mason model of air-gap TFBAR (AGR) resonators is established in advanced design system to investigate the relationship between electrical impedance and physical parameters. The simulation results illustrate the effect of the area of parallel unit and the number of resonators on the performance of the BAW filters. By changing the series-parallel unit series and area ratio, the pass band of the BAW filter can reach 1556–1566 MHz, and the out-of-band rejection and the insertion loss can reach 47.5 dB and 3.0 dB, respectively.

Streszczenie:
Aims. We aim to evaluate the near-infrared colors of brown dwarfs as observed with four major infrared imaging space observatories: the Hubble Space Telescope (HST), the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST), the Euclid mission, and the WFIRST telescope. Methods. We used the SPLAT SPEX/ISPEX spectroscopic library to map out the colors of the M-, L-, and T-type dwarfs. We have identified which color–color combination is optimal for identifying broad type and which single color is optimal to then identify the subtype (e.g., T0-9). We evaluated each observatory separately as well as the narrow-field (HST and JWST) and wide-field (Euclid and WFIRST) combinations. Results. The Euclid filters perform equally well as HST wide filters in discriminating between broad types of brown dwarfs. WFIRST performs similarly well, despite a wider selection of filters. However, subtyping with any combination of Euclid and WFIRST observations remains uncertain due to the lack of medium, or narrow-band filters. We argue that a medium band added to the WFIRST filter selection would greatly improve its ability to preselect brown dwarfs its imaging surveys. Conclusions. The HST filters used in high-redshift searches are close to optimal to identify broad stellar type. However, the addition of F127M to the commonly used broad filter sets would allow for unambiguous subtyping. An improvement over HST is one of two broad and medium filter combinations on JWST: pairing F140M with either F150W or F162M discriminates very well between subtypes.
