Abstract A number of A5M5O17 (A = Na, Ca, Sr, La, Nd, Sm, Gd, Dy, Yb; B = Ti, Nb, Ta) type compounds were prepared by a solid-state sintering route and characterized in terms of structure, microstructure and microwave dielectric properties. The compatibility of rare earths with mixed niobate/tantalate and titanate phases was investigated. The larger ionic radii mismatch resulted in the formation of pyrochlore and/or mixed phases while in other cases, pure A5M5O17 phase was formed. The samples exhibited relative permittivity in the range of 35 to 82, quality factor (Q × fo) = 897 GHz to 11946 G

AbstractPhases present in slags from Araxá (Brazil), Oka (Quebec) and Fen (Norway) resulting from the production of ferroniobium by the aluminothermic reduction of pyrochlore-group minerals are a function of composition of the pyrochlore feed and the diverse fluxes (CaO, CaF2) added to the alumina and iron oxide used in the reduction process. Absent from all slags investigated are Fe-bearing compounds. All of the slags are modally-dominated by prismatic crystals of β-alumina or hibonite, with a wide variety of Th-Ba-Ti-Nb-Al-oxide compounds and silico-aluminate glasses occurring in the interst

The electrical properties and phase transition behavior of the sodium niobate-based solid solution (1-x)Li0.12Na0.88NbO3-xNa0.91Ba0.09Nb0.91Ti0.09O3 [(1-x)LNN12-xNNBT9] ceramics were investigated. The lattice constant changes became discontinuitous between LNNBT0.5 and LNNBT0.7. Moreover, the peak dielectric constant of LNNBT0.7 is twice that of LNNBT0.5. The present Thesis explores a few novel anode materials for both lithium-ion and sodium-ion rechargeable batteries. A series of layered metal titanium niobates have been synthesised and their electrochemical energy storage properties, ion transport, and reaction mechanisms are studied in detail.
