Streszczenie:
This article presents a research focused on developing musculoskeletal system for bio-inspired robotic systems. A musculoskeletal system is the fundamental structure that allows complex mobility of biological systems. This paper briefly describes the recently introduced twisted and coiled polymer (TCP) muscles and a novel design of musculoskeletal system based on ball and socket joint, as well as their application in a 3D printed humanoid robot. The challenge to develop such systems is multifaceted, including design, manufacturing, system integration, control methods, and energy usage. Some of the challenges in humanoid design are the degrees of freedom and the synergetic combination of hardware and software to perform a particular task. The other challenge is affordability of the platform. Most humanoids are very expensive. Since the TCP-based actuators are inexpensive and musculoskeletal systems inspired by biological systems are optimum for performance, they will address these problems. The bio-inspired ball and socket joint shown in the article can be cascaded to create complex robots, for example, for the shoulder joint of a humanoid.

Streszczenie:
The clinical examination is an important part of any patient consultation. After the primary survey and taking the patient history, a more in-depth examination is sometimes required to aid making a working diagnosis and help negate other differential diagnoses. The extent of this depends on the stability of the patient and may not be possible in time-critical circumstances. However, clinical examination is an increasing part of paramedic practice owing to the continued expansion of the scope of the paramedic role in both urgent and emergency care. Education on clinical examination concerning each of the main body systems is now an integral part of undergraduate paramedic curricula. This clinical examination series provides a step-by-step overview for each of the main body systems. Continuing professional development (CPD) is an essential requirement for all clinicians to maintain and to demonstrate that they are staying up to date and advancing in their roles. This series gives an overview of each type of examination to support students, newly qualified paramedics and paramedics wishing to use these articles as a CPD development activity and an aide-memoire for clinical practice. This article, which explores the the upper musculoskeletal system, gives an overview of initial examination considerations.

Streszczenie:
Vitamin D, a fat-soluble prohormone, is endogenously synthesized in response to sunlight or taken from dietary supplements. Since vitamin D receptors are present in most tissues and cells in the body, the mounting understanding of the role of vitamin D in humans indicates that it does not only play an important role in the musculoskeletal system, but has beneficial effects elsewhere as well. This review summarizes the metabolism of vitamin D, the research regarding the possible risk factors leading to vitamin D deficiency, and the relationships between vitamin D deficiency and numerous illnesses, including rickets, osteoporosis and osteomalacia, muscle weakness and falls, autoimmune disorders, infectious diseases, cardiovascular diseases (CVDs), cancers, and neurological disorders. The system-wide effects of vitamin D and the mechanisms of the diseases are also discussed. Although accumulating evidence supports associations of vitamin D deficiency with physical and mental disorders and beneficial effects of vitamin D with health maintenance and disease prevention, there continue to be controversies over the beneficial effects of vitamin D. Thus, more well-designed and statistically powered trials are required to enable the assessment of vitamin D’s role in optimizing health and preventing disease.

Streszczenie:
Musculoskeletal models endow an opportunity to study the movement of the upper limb in vivo. The solid foundation of musculoskeletal model design is inherited from musculoskeletal parameters. Some of these parameters are tendon and muscle fiber length, pennation angle, and muscle volume. It is possible to extract these parameters based on cadaver. However, it is time-consuming and gives a generic statement about the function of the musculoskeletal system, but this is not enough to get accurate data and timely for each patient. Medical imaging has revolutionized visualization of the internal structure of the body in real time and in vivo. It is worth using medical imaging because it is impossible to imagine in real time what is inside the body unless surgery is performed; it is possible to see internal structure through cadaver dissection, but not in vivo. There are several kinds of medical imaging tools, which have been used in musculoskeletal system analysis such as Ultrasonography (US), Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), Diffusion Tensor Imaging (DTI) and Computer Tomography (CT) scans. The work proposed aims to present principle, development and challenges of different medical imaging tools of musculoskeletal system methods. The results of this study show that the choice of imaging device for the musculoskeletal system depends mainly on the motivation, target and the strong points that present in the medical imaging devices.
