The planetarium was invented by the German engineer Walther Bauersfeld of the Carl Zeiss Company in 1919, and the first projection-planetarium in the world was installed in the Deutsches Museum in München (Munich) 1923. Most of the German planetariums were destroyed during World War II. Today, nine major planetariums with dome diameters greater than 15m are in operation in the following cities in F.R. Germany; the numbers in brackets are the year of opening, the dome size and the seating capacity: West Berlin (1965; 20 m; 320), Bochum (1964; 20 m; 300), Hamburg (1933; 20.6 m; 270), Mannheim (1984; 20 m; 287), München (1925; 15 m; 156), Münster (1981; 20 m; 280), Nürnberg (1961; 18 m; 255), Stuttgart (1977; 20 m; 277), and Wolfsburg (1983; 15 m; 148).

Collecting expeditions to China's Sichuan, Gansu and Qinghai provinces were conducted by the third author, along with Alessandro and Irene Floriani, during June 2009, April 2010 and July 2010. Light trapping yielded numerous noctuid moths including four new species, described herein. These new taxa reflect the high diversity of some genera (Hada, Billberg, 1820 ; Palaeamathes, Boursin, 1954) in SW China, and the biogeographical connections of the Tibetan Plateau to Central Asia (Lacanobia kitokia sp. n., L. contrastata (Bryk, 1942), L. mongolica Behounek, 1993, L. kirghisa Gyulai & Ronkay, 1998) and to the Himalayan Region (Palaeamathes serrulata sp. n. is close to P. harpegnoma (Hreblay & Ronkay, 1998). Despite the possibility to watch the Olympic Games on TV, millions of people want to attend the Games live on site. Experience shows that this desire increases when the Games are held within the vicinity of where you reside. This was also the case in 1972 in Munich. However, the inner German division led to a particular situation: People in the German Democratic Republic (Deutsche Demokratische Republik, DDR) often only lived a few hundred kilometres from the venue of the Games. They spoke the language of the hosts, and many loved sports. The hosts repeatedly indicated how welcome the guests were, particularly those from the “other Germany”. Yet, here was a substantial political issue: Germany had been separated since 1949, and the division was cemented in 1961. The GDR citizens were hardly able to enter the Federal Republic of Germany (Bundesrepublik Deutschland, BRD). The GDR’s ruling party (Sozialistische Einheitspartei Deutschlands, SED) opted for dissociation, which means that, according to their doctrine, there should be “no special relationships”. – Since the beginning of the New Eastern Policy (Neue Ostpolitik) in Bonn, the relationships should not be inferior either. Thus, the GDR was, so to speak, compelled to send tourists to the Munich Games, although the GDR leaders enormously struggled with that decision. The study describes the process leading to two groups of 1,000 GDR citizens being hand-picked and representing their state at the Games. Furthermore, it depicts the misunderstandings between the two sides during the negotiations and how the delegation was prepared and monitored. It also describes the objectives of both sides connected to the sending and receiving of the visitors. In all of that, including the haggling over a few dozen tickets for a volleyball match, it becomes apparent that not only the Olympic competitions can be of extreme political importance but also Olympic tourism.

Max Witzemann had been sentenced to a prison term for counterfeiting in 1982. According to that nonappealable decision, he had imported counterfeit U.S. dollar notes into Germany in 1981. On the basis of the decision, the Hauptzollamt sought to collect customs duties and turnover taxes on the import of the forged notes. Witzemann refused to pay, pleading that the collection of customs duties and import turnover taxes violated Articles 9 and 12-29 of the EEC Treaty, which concern the customs union.

Theodor Hartig’s aphid and scale insect type specimens have been presumed lost or destroyed for the last 140 years. Here we document their discovery at the Bavarian State Collection of Zoology (Zoologische Staatssammlung München, ZSM), in Munich, Germany. These specimens include primary types for 24 aphid, three adelgid, and two armored scale insect species named by Hartig between 1834 and 1851, as well as other specimens of unknown importance.

AbstractPronectria rolfiana Etayo sp. nov. is described on Solorina sp. from Austria and Germany. The new species has been confused with Xenonectriella lutescens, a species hitherto reported from one locality in Bavaria. Scutula pseudocyphellariae Etayo & Triebel is described on Pseudocyphellaria berberina and P. flavicans from southern Chile and Unguiculariopsis fasciculata Etayo on Ramalina stenospora from Florida. The new combination Clypeococcum psoromatis (A. Massal.) Etayo comb. nov. is introduced for the common Mediterranean lichenicolous fungus hitherto named Clypeococcum epicrassum (H. Olivier) Nav.-Ros. & Cl. Roux.

In summer 2001, an outbreak of Salmonella München occurred in Germany. We conducted descriptive epidemiology and hypothesis-generating interviews among case patients, two retrospective cohort studies, and a case-control study of subout-breaks. We performed pulsed-field gel electrophoresis (PFGE) from selected patient isolates and a limited trace-back investigation for analytical purposes. Four states were consecutively affected: Saxonia (SX), Brandenburg (BB), Berlin (BE), and Baden-Württemberg (BW). Although hypothesis-generating interviews failed to identify a plausible food item, descriptive data and investigations of the suboutbreaks suggested pork meat as a probable source in three states (SX, BB, and BE) but not in BW. The PFGE profiles from isolates of case patients in the first three states were indistinguishable but differed from PFGE profiles of case patients in BW. Trace-back investigation suggested that contamination of pork meat occurred early in the rearing-production chain. This outbreak demonstrates how contamination early in the production process that can yield different end products may complicate multistate outbreaks. Investigation of suboutbreaks and use of the trace-back method as investigational tools may be useful adjuncts in solving the problem of multistate outbreaks.

This thesis examines the planning and organization of the Munich 1972 and Seoul 1988 Olympic Games with a specific focus on how the South Korean and West German governments attempted to use the Games to positively change their images abroad. Both countries attempted to distance themselves not only from their own war torn pasts, but also from their Communist counterparts, East Germany and North Korea. The West German government (and the Munich Olympic Committee) hoped to create a “peaceful” and “carefree atmosphere” that would directly counter images of Nazism, and the South Korean government (and the Seoul Olympic Committee) sought to use the Olympics to legitimize a military dictatorship and prove the country’s economic growth following the Korean War. By giving the Games so much importance, however, both governments transformed the Olympics into a flashpoint for international and domestic conflicts, and unforeseen events, such as the Black September terrorist attack, the South Korean democracy movement, and North Korea’s demands to co-host the Games, changed and defined the public images of both the Games and their host countries.

Das Ziel dieser Arbeit ist, den Unterricht der Nicht-Umgebungssprache für zweisprachige Kinder mit Finnisch und Deutsch zu untersuchen. Für die Arbeit wurden zwei Beispielfälle gewählt: Finnischunterricht an der Suomi-koulu in München und muttersprachlicher Deutschunterricht in Oulu. Das Untersuchungsmaterial besteht aus 17 Interviews mit zweisprachigen Lernenden, ihren Eltern und den Lehrenden. Die Interviews wurden im Februar und März im Jahre 2015 entweder persönlich oder via Skype realisiert. Die Interviewfragen gründen sich auf den Theorien über die Zweisprachigkeit und den muttersprachlichen Unterricht der Nicht-Umgebungssprache. Den Lernenden, den Eltern und den Lehrenden wurden unterschiedliche Fragen gestellt, um z. B. herauszufinden, welche Sprachen in den Familien gesprochen werden, wie die Zweisprachigkeit zuhause unterstützt wird, wie die Einstellung der Lernenden zum Unterricht ist und ob die Befragten Entwicklungsideen zum Unterricht haben. Diese Arbeit zeigt, dass Zweisprachigkeit ein fundamentales, gesellschaftliches Phänomen ist und dass die Definition der Zweisprachigkeit komplex ist. Der Bedarf für Sprachbeherrschung in zwei oder mehreren Sprachen hat einen entscheidenden Einfluss auf die Entwicklung der Zweisprachigkeit des Kindes. Dabei ist die Rolle der Eltern bei der Entwicklung der Zweisprachigkeit ihres Kindes bedeutend: die Entscheidung den vielfältigen Input der Nicht-Umgebungssprache zu sichern, verlangt von den Eltern viel Engagement. Im Gegensatz zu Deutschland ist in Finnland der muttersprachliche Nicht-Umgebungsspracheunterricht landesweit gesetzlich geregelt und im nationalen Rahmencurriculum verankert, außerdem unterstützt der finnische Staat auch den Suomi-koulu–Unterricht im Ausland. Muttersprachlicher Nicht-Umgebungssprachunterricht unterstützt die sprachliche und kulturelle Entwicklung des zweisprachigen Kindes und er ermöglicht der Familie an einer Gemeinschaft mit ähnlichem Sprach- und Kulturhintergrund teilzuhaben. Der Unterricht bringt den zweisprachigen Lernenden Nutzen beim Lesen und Schreiben, weil die Nicht-Umgebungssprache außerhalb des Unterrichts oft nur durch Hören und Sprechen verwendet wird. Die vielfältigen Kenntnisse, die im Unterricht gelernt werden, machen es für den Lernenden leichter, die Nicht-Umgebungssprache zu verwenden. Viele von den befragten Lernenden sagen, dass sie Sicherheit bei der Verwendung der Nicht-Umgebungssprache durch den Unterricht bekommen haben. Der Unterricht unterstützt auch die Entwicklung der zweisprachigen und -kulturellen Identität der Lernenden. In Suomi-koulu München wird die finnische Kultur z. B. durch Traditionen und gemeinschaftlichen Feste aufrechterhalten. Laut der Interviews halten die Lernenden und ihre Eltern den Unterricht für wichtig und sie denken, dass es Nutzen von dem Unterricht in der Zukunft geben wird. Diese Arbeit nützt vor allem den Befragten und den von den Befragten vertretenen Organisationen. Die Untersuchung bietet den Veranstaltern des muttersprachlichen Nicht-Umgebungsspracheunterrichts Perspektiven zur Entwicklung an. Mithilfe dieser Arbeit können auch andere Zweisprachige und die Menschen in ihrer Umgebung Zweisprachigkeit und die Wichtigkeit der Unterstützung der Zweisprachigkeit tiefer verstehen. Zusammengefasst kann behauptet werden, dass Zweisprachigkeit aus den Sprachkenntnissen, aber auch aus einer sprachlichen und kulturellen Identität besteht. Muttersprachlicher Nicht-Umgebungsspracheunterricht spielt eine große Rolle bei der Unterstützung dieses Komplexes
Opinnäytetyössä tutkitaan kaksikielisten lasten (suomi-saksa) toisen äidinkielen (ei-ympäristökielen) opetusta: Suomi-koulu–opetusta Münchenissä sekä saksanopetusta Oulussa. Tutkimusaineisto koostuu 17 kaksikielisten oppilaiden, heidän vanhempiensa sekä opettajien haastattelusta. Haastattelut toteutettiin joko kasvotusten tai Skypen välityksellä helmi- ja maaliskuussa 2015. Haastattelukysymykset perustuivat teoriaan kaksikielisyydestä sekä toisen äidinkielen opetuksesta. Oppilaille, vanhemmille ja opettajille oli laadittu keskenään erilaiset kysymysrungot, joiden avulla selvitettiin mm. perheiden kielitaustaa, kaksikielisyyden tukikeinoja kotona, oppilaiden asennoitumista opetukseen sekä haastateltavien kehitysehdotuksia opetusta varten. Tutkimus osoittaa, että kaksikielisyys on perustavanlaatuinen yhteiskunnallinen ilmiö ja sen määritelmä on monimuotoinen. Lapsen kaksikielisyyden kehitykseen vaikuttaa ratkaisevasti ympäristön synnyttämä tarve kahden tai useamman kielen hallintaan. Vanhempien rooli lapsensa kaksikielisyyden kehityksessä on merkittävä: ei-ympäristökielen tarjonnan monipuolisuuden turvaaminen on päätös, joka vaatii vanhemmilta vaivannäköä. Toisin kuin Saksassa, kaksikielisten toisen äidinkielen opetus on Suomessa lakisääteistä ja Suomen valtio tukee myös ulkosuomalaisten Suomi-koulu–opetusta. Toisen äidinkielen opetus tukee kaksikielisen lapsen kielellistä ja kulttuurista kehitystä sekä tarjoaa koko perheelle mahdollisuuden olla osa yhteisöä, jolla on samankaltainen kieli- ja kulttuuritausta. Toisen äidinkielen opetus hyödyttää kaksikielisen oppilaan luku- ja kirjoitustaitoa, sillä usein ei-ympäristökieltä käytetään opetuksen ulkopuolella ainoastaan suullisesti. Opetuksessa karttuvat monipuoliset tiedot ja taidot alentavat myös kynnystä käyttää toista äidinkieltä. Moni haastateltu oppilas kertoi saaneensa opetuksesta lisää itsevarmuutta käyttää toista äidinkieltään. Opetus tukee lisäksi oppilaan kaksikielisen ja -kulttuurisen identiteetin muodostumista. Esimerkiksi Münchenin Suomi-koulussa pidetään yllä suomalaista kulttuuria perinteiden ja yhteisten juhlien kautta. Haastatteluista käy ilmi, että oppilaat ja heidän vanhempansa kokevat opetuksen merkitykselliseksi ja ajattelevat, että toisen äidinkielen opetuksesta on hyötyä myös tulevaisuutta ajatellen. Opinnäytetyö hyödyttää ensisijaisesti haastateltuja henkilöitä ja heidän edustamiaan organisaatioita. Lisäksi tutkimus tarjoaa näkökulmia toisen äidinkielen opetuksen järjestäjille. Tutkimus voi auttaa myös muita kaksikielisiä ja heidän lähipiiriään ymmärtämään syvemmin kaksikielisyyttä ja kaksikielisyyden tukemisen merkitystä. Yhteenvetona voidaan todeta, että kaksikielisyys muodostuu paitsi tietotaidosta, myös kielellisestä ja kulttuurisesta identiteettistä. Den Anspruch, Philosoph zu sein hat Michel Foucault nur gelegentlich erhoben, gleichwohl ist aus vielen Stellen seiner Schriften und aus seinen Interviews klar, daß er als solcher verstanden werden muß. Die meisten seiner Bücher sind historische Arbeiten, immer allerdings mit einer aktuellen Erkenntnisabsicht verfaßt: als "Archäologien", "Genealogien" und "Problematisierungen" gehören sie dem Projekt einer "Geschichte der Gegenwart" an, dem sich Foucault verschrieben hat. Heute liegt sein Oeuvre, das in Deutschland relativ spät, ab den 70er Jahren aber immer zügiger übersetzt wurde, in Einzelausgaben so gut wie vollständig vor und hat inzwischen zu rückblickenden Betrachtungen eingeladen, die den polemischen Ton druch die Bemühung um eingehendere Lektüre abschwächen. Seit dem Tod des Denkers ist ein Abstand aufgetan, der es ermöglicht, Verständnis und Kritik allein an den Texten zu üben.

This chapter focuses on a collection of papers from the Collegium Carolinum, which was edited by Ferdinand Seibt. The Collegium Carolinum is a serious scholarly society, mainly concerned with the study of the history of the lands that became Czechoslovakia in 1918. While the German population of those territories and the history of the First Czechoslovak Republic are its primary interests, this volume is a departure from both subjects. It deals with the history of the Jews in Bohemia, Moravia and Silesia — the lands of the Bohemian crown. While some of the articles on early modern times deal with the same issues, the coverage lessens towards the end of the existence of an organized Jewry in Czechoslovakia.

Drought periods can be responsible for substantial damage in forests. Different studies have used empirical methods to measure the impact of drought on trees. More recently, huge advances in genomics have allowed finding potential genetic markers involved in drought resistance or tolerance. In this paper we review some empirical and genomic approaches that have been discussed by the scientists of Technische Universität of München (Germany) and National Institute of Agricultural Research (France). We suggest that a combination of these two types of approaches allows a better understanding of the mechanisms leading to drought resistance or tolerance.

Two monoclonal antibodies (mAb's) against antithrombin III (ATIII) were characterized with respect to their ability to interfere with ATIII activity. AT III activity was measured by its ability to inhibit the amidolitic activity of thrombin on the substrate BCP-100. Incubation of 150 ng of ATIII with 28pg mAb A36R2 prior to addition of 50 ng thrombin totally abolishes the inhibitory effect of ATIII on thrombin. Incubation of 200ng of ATIII with 10 μg of mAb B26R4 prior to addition of 75 ng thrombin raises the inhibitory effects of ATIII from 37% to 100%. We examined the effect of these mAb's on binding of antithrombin III-thrombin (ATIII-Th) complexes to bovine corneal endothelial cells. 120 pg/ml mAb's are reacted with 2 μg/ml ATIII-Th complexes prior to their addition to the cells. mAb A36R2 completely blocks ATIII-Th complexes binding. In contrast, mAb B26R4 enhances binding up to 250% of the control binding.We conclude that mAb A36R2 prevents binding of thrombin to ATIII by recognizing an epitope on ATIII close to thrombin binding site or that its binding to ATIII induces a conformational change in the thrombin binding site thus it no longer recognizes thrombin. mAb B26R4 has a heparin-like effect on ATIII: Its binding to ATIII induces conformational changes which improve thrombin binding to ATIII. There is a correlation between inhibition and enhancement of thrombin binding to ATIII and of ATIII-Th complexes binding to cells by the two mAb's. These mAb's may provide a new tool to control the activity of ATIII and to identify the cellular binding site on the ATIII-Th complex.This research was supported by a grant from the National Council for Research and Development, Israel and G.S.F. Germany has decided to fundamentally transform its whole energy system. The transformation requires numerous infrastructure projects that are conflict-prone [1]. To handle conflicts, involved companies are expected to use legally prescribed public participation procedures (formal) as well as non-legally binding participation processes (informal). Public participation can occur on three intensity levels: information, consultation, and cooperation [2]. Little research has been done on how conflict communication can be used at different participation levels. This paper aims on a deeper understanding of how conflict communication formats are perceived by people living in so-called energy regions, i.e., regions undergoing an intensive energy transformation. It focuses on how they retrospectively evaluate their potential for conflict management, and what recommendations they derive from this knowledge.This paper presents selected outcomes of a study conducted in the large-scale project ENSURE, funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research. The project aims on solutions for the German energy transition. The study combines in-depth interview and pre-questionnaire. The literature-based interview guideline covers two question complexes: (1) background, remit, and experience, (2) conflict communication (occurrence of conflict; conflict triggers and resolutions; potential of communication formats; quality criteria; challenges of distance conditions). In the pre-questionnaire, respondents were asked to rate the potential of formats of participation levels for conflict management (1 = very suitable; 6 = not suitable at all). For each level, formats frequently named in the literature were given [3]. In the in-depth interviews, participants were asked to comment on their ratings. In addition, they were asked to recall two infrastructure projects they had experience with and indicate which formats had been used particularly well or poorly? The participants were contacted using a stakeholder list provided by the project consortium. The participants (n=12; nine male, three female) live in the federate state Schleswig-Holstein and have experience with infrastructure projects in the energy and/or mobility sector. All are well-informed about the region. Most of them (n=8) are involved in environmental protection organizations or in local politics, e.g., in regional development committees. Interviews were conducted digitally in 2021. The data were anonymized, transcribed, analyzed qualitatively (two coders; overall categories: 247) as well as quantitatively.Conflict communication formats were mostly used on the information level. The best ratings are given to consultation level formats (Ø = 2.2). At the information level, information events are rated as most suitable (Ø = 1.3). At consultation level, resource-intensive personal talks with those affected are recommended (Ø = 1.3). Respondents favor integrating levels of participation and formats, e.g., consultation processes as part of information events. At cooperation level, mediation is best rated (Ø = 1.9). The respondents address factors influencing the suitability of formats for conflict management. Some formats are strongly topic-dependent, e.g., an expert hearing is particularly suitable if a topic generates fears. Other factors are the target group, the local context (city/rural) or the setting (private/public). Abstract In the field of thermal spraying a lot of things have been and still are happening concerning education and training of personnel. The education and training of thermal sprayers according EWF-Guideline is required frequently in combination of the international standard DIN EN ISO 14918 “Approval Testing of Thermal Sprayers” - especially in the German-language countries. Meanwhile about 13 ETS courses were held at the German Welding Institute. Also interested in the education and training of thermal sprayers are countries like Poland and China. In France thermal spray personnel was educated and trained in a company internal course. Sweden and Norway run ETS courses in cooperation. The EWF education and training course of the ETSS European Thermal Spraying Specialist will be offered by the German Welding Institute in Munich - SLV München - for the nineth time in October 2005. Since about 1993 European Committees of EWF (European Federation of Welding, Joining and Cutting) and CEN (European Committee or Standardization) worked out education and training guidelines and qualification standards of thermal spray supervising personnel and sprayers and established them step by step. The meanwhile created and internationally accepted EWF-education and training guidelines of supervising personnel and thermal spray workers involve also the new ISO standards of the Thermal Spraying Co-ordinator and the Approval Testing of Thermal Sprayers. The ISO personnel qualification and quality management standards result together with the EWF education and training guidelines in a sound QM-system, which meets the increased demands of trade and industry of high quality sprayed coating. Experiences in applying these guidelines and standards are introduced.

Abstract Since 1993 education and training guidelines and as well as qualification standards of thermal spray personnel have been created step by step by the European Committees of EWF (European Federation of Welding, Joining and Cutting) and CEN (European Committee or Standardisation). ISO personnel qualification and quality management standards result together with the EWF education and training guidelines in a sound QM-system, which meets the increased demands of trade and industry of high quality sprayed coating. Meanwhile about 13 ETS courses were held at the German Welding Institute. Also ETS courses have been held in Finland. The EWF education and training course of the ETSS European Thermal Spraying Specialist will be offered by the German Welding Institute in Munich - SLV München - for the eleventh time in October 2008. DIN EN ISO 9000 series are commonly valid, that is why the product related quality management EN ISO 14922 ”Quality Requirements of Thermally Sprayed Structures, part 1 - 4” was created. This standard series puts principles for the fitness of the purchaser and of his spray production. The QM-system that was established by the GTS e.V.– the Association of Thermal Sprayers – was pioneer and does an excellent job concerning its requirements. The QM-standards are also involve the important ISO standards of the Thermal Spraying Co-ordinator and the Approval Testing of Thermal Sprayers.

In 1947, Southern German poet Gottfried Kölwel (1889–1958) published a cycle of six poems under the title ,Munich Elegies‘, in which he laments the destruction of this city caused by the bombings of World War II. Kölwel makes use of the erudite literary form of the elegy and thus attempts to counteract the notions of chaos and destruction, which are inherent in his literary material, by imposing a formal structure upon it. In this contribution, the poems are contextualized within the literary history of the years immediately following the war as well as analyzed in a close reading.
