Abstract Large quantities of volatile radionuclides were released into the atmosphere after the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station (FDNPS) accident in March 2011. An inventory of these radionuclides in seafloor sediments is important for evaluating their environmental behavior and effects on aquatic organisms. We developed a dedicated radiation survey device that can be installed on a multipurpose unmanned surface vehicle called the Intelligent Boat for Oceanological Survey from Hama-dori (i-BoSH). Both the i-BoSH and dedicated radiation survey device were developed by a local consortium to survey places of heavy damage from the accident. The radiation survey device can measure radioactivity in-situ and collect eight sediment samples. The device also contains sensors to measure the relative distance between the i-BoSH and the seafloor as well as other fundamental seawater information such as temperature. A comprehensive test that included in-situ radiation measurements in sediment and collection of sediment core samples was conducted offshore from a radiocesium-contaminated fishing port in Fukushima. Consequently, the effectiveness of this device was confirmed via a successful operation at 12 sampling points with two cruises from the fishing port. Good correlations were observed between the laboratory and field measurement results of the sampled sediment cores and the in-situ radiation survey, respectively. Successful application of this device is expected to go beyond environmental surveys around the FDNPS to more general radiation monitoring around nuclear facilities and longer post-accident periods.

Abstract. The purpose of the investigation was a survey of the modern complex index estimation of dairy cattle in the countries of the European Union and the USA and developing of own principal scheme of multipurpose evaluation of animals due to prior received data of economic useful traits. As a result of the research, significant differences were revealed both between the significance of the groups of traits and between the numbers of evaluated indicators in different countries. This shows the diversity of interests of breeders and farmers. The prior analysis of indicators of economic useful traits of Holstein Kholmogorskiy cattle in the farms of the Murmansk region allowed to determine main directions of animal selection and to develop the algorithm of animal evaluation by complex of economic useful trait indices. The developed algorithm of complex evaluation for dairy cattle includes four evaluation blocks – indices of reproductive ability, longevity, and milk production, and, separately, milk yield. We propose to evaluate reproductive abilities by direct indicators and indirect indicators, for example, take into account exterior traits, and predisposed to abortion and female disorders. The evaluation of longevity includes indices of the exterior, accounted also a predisposition to four main groups of disease – udder disease, female disorders, aborts, lame. The milk productivity evaluation includes traits of the milk quality composition, the property of the lactation curve and characteristics of the udder from the exterior and predispose to udder diseases. In total, it is proposed to calculate the multipurpose evaluation of animals by 23 traits, including all aspects of health and productive features of dairy cattle. The scientific novelty of the research is the use of a mixed model affecting various indicators of productivity and longevity for assessing the main economical useful traits in the developed algorithm. The developed assessment system will allow to comprehensively improve the herd taking into account the current state of dairy cattle breeding in the Murmansk region.

Background: In India, the genetic disease is a disregarded service element in the community health- protection system. This study aims to gauge the accessibility of services for treating genetic disorders and also to evaluate the practices on deterrence and management services in the district health system. Methods: A cross-sectional survey of selected health amenities from 454 medical officers (MO’s), 94 accredited social health activist (ASHAs) workers, 86 multipurpose health assistant-female (MPHA-F), 34 multipurpose health assistant-male (MPHA-M), 14 multipurpose health supervisors-female (MPHS-F), 10 multipurpose health supervisors-male (MPHS-M), 6 multipurpose health extension officer/ community health officer (MPHEO/CHO), 10 public health nurse (PHN), 45 lab technicians (LT’s) working in the government health sector and 254 in the private health sector, 409 nursing staff working in the government health sector and 995 in the private health sector, 15 primary health centers (PHC’s), 4 community health centers (CHC’s), 1 district government hospital (DGH), 3 referral hospitals (RH’s). From the side of private health institutions 25 corporate hospitals (CH’s), 3 medical colleges (MC’s), and 25 diagnostic laboratories (DL’s) were conducted. Results: The findings show that adequate staff was in place at more than 70% of health centers, but none of the staff have obtained any operative training on genetic disease management. The largest part of the DH’s had rudimentary infrastructural and diagnostic facilities. However, the greater part of the CHC’s and PHC’s had inadequate diagnostic facilities related to genetic disease management. Biochemical, molecular, and cytogenetic services were not available at PHC’s and CHC’s. DH’s, RH’s, and all selected medical colleges were found to have offered the basic Biochemical genetics units during the survey. In 24% of CH’s, the basic biochemical units are available and 32% (8 out of 25) of DL’s have the advanced biochemical genetics units by study. Molecular genetics units were found to be available in 28% (7 out of 25) of DL’s during the study. About 6 (24%) diagnostic centers of cytogenetic laboratories were located in the Visakhapatnam district under the private sector. Conclusion: The district health care infrastructure in India has a shortage of basic services to be provided for the genetic disorder. With some policy resolutions and facility strengthening, it is possible to provide advanced services for a genetic disorder in the district health system.

As an important geothermal resource, thermal mineral water has high resource efficiency and thermal energy efficiency. The aim of this study was to delineate prospective areas of thermal mineral water based on potential thermal mineral water sites and faults. Linear regression was used to process the temperature of 22 known thermal mineral water sites as dependent variables, and 54 indices of the lower soil of multipurpose regional geochemical surveys as independent variables, in the area of intermediate-acid intrusive rocks and sediment degeneration rocks on Hainan Island. Published data were quoted from the National Multi-Purpose Regional Geochemical Survey (Hainan Province, China). According to the regressive modelling of 2197 lower soil samples, 547 potential thermal mineral water sites were delineated after considering 4 factors—geological background, regional structure, interval of dependent variable’s predictive temperature, and boundary of independent variable’s contents—which were compared against 22 known thermal mineral water sites to choose the 2197 lower soil samples, based on the choice of prospective sites of thermal mineral water on Hainan Island. The results showed that the proportion of A1-level sites that were >70 °C constituted 11% of all A1-level prospective sites, reflecting the superiority of east–west or north–east directional regional faults in controlling the distribution of thermal mineral water. This study shows the indications of the multipurpose regional geochemical survey with regards to thermal mineral water, which is one of the most important tourist resources of Hainan Island.

Surveys of urban forests in the compact city environment of Hong Kong were initiated in 1985 and regularly updated thereafter. Roadside trees were evaluated first in a tree census and reported in this article followed by urban parks, public housing estates, and special habitats such as old stone walls or special specimens such as heritage trees. The survey method aimed at collecting comprehensive data to echo both tree conditions and tree–environmental interactions. Detailed information was gleaned, with the help of well-trained assistants, on tree sites, tree growing space, tree structure, and tree defects and disorders. A field record form was designed, pilot-tested, and refined to solicit responses to multiple choices or direct measurements to minimize subjectivity and errors in data recording and entry. The study also identified potential planting sites, registering suitability for tree growth, site characteristics, and dimensions. Data fields were designed to be quantitative or convertible to ordinal ranks to facilitate statistical analysis. Locations of trees and planting sites were marked on large-scale maps to permit spatial analysis. Besides statistical analysis, community ecology attributes and custom-designed indices were used to assess urban forest structure. The multipurpose method could be appropriately adjusted for use in other compact city areas.

The annual survey to collect data on the contact lens prescribing preferences of practitioners has continued for 12 years in Canada. Practitioners were surveyed for information on the first 10 patients they fitted with contact lenses immediately after receipt of said survey. A total of 121 completed surveys were returned, detailing contact lens fittings for 1,184 patients. Of the patients fitted with contact lenses, the results indicated that the majority were prescribed soft lenses. The preferred modality was monthly planned replacement and over 67 per cent of the soft lens fits were made of silicone hydrogel materials. Of the rigid lens fits, the majority were prescribed for daily wear, as the overnight use of rigid lenses appears to be mainly for orthokeratology. Practitioners are recommending multipurpose solutions for the majority of their soft lens patients (85.6%).

The need to carry out routine bathymetric survey on dam in order to analyse the quantity of water in the dam’s reservoir cannot be underrated. “multipurpose water uses of hydropower reservoirs” has been the world water council advocacy. Multipurpose water use include categories, such as domestic purposes, cooling of power plants, irrigation, mining, recreation, navigation, fisheries, etc., This research uses topographic and bathymetric data obtained from field operations to compute the volume of water present in the dam. Midas Surveyor dual frequency GPS echo sounder, Trimble 5700 Dual Frequency GPS ‘Base Station’ receiver and Trimble 5800 Dual Frequency GPS ‘Rover’ receiver, were employed for data collections. Data processing and presentation were done with Surfer 10 software. The volume computed from data analysis gives 3880 x 106 MCM. The volume of water needed to run the six turbines per day added up to 1,735200 litres and that of per capita use was 0.006 litre per day for minimum and 0.025 litres per day for maximum. The volume left after removing other withdrawer was 62% of the actual volume computed for the dam.

The construction industry heavily relies on scaffolding to facilitate work at elevated heights. This study presents a new and innovative design for a collapsible, multifunctional scaffold that is suitable for both flat and irregular surfaces. The design of the scaffold was evaluated using a Likert scale survey, which revealed high acceptability across all evaluated categories. The scaffold was fabricated using a combination of steel and aluminum materials and designed using computer-aided design CAD software. The fabrication process, portability, performance, and safety of a prototype scaffold were thoroughly assessed. The evaluation methodology employed a Likert-scale questionnaire and a descriptive research approach. A total of 30 engineers, architects, and construction laborers participated in the evaluation, assessing four essential aspects of the scaffold. The results indicated a consistently high level of acceptability, with weighted mean scores ranging from 4.69 to 4.94 out of a maximum score of 5.0 in all categories. The design parameters of the scaffold, such as the footing mechanism and working platform design, were determined based on industry standards and the intended usage of the scaffold. However, this study did not include a sensitivity analysis to explore the impact of different parameter values on the scaffold's performance. This study introduces a collapsible, multifunctional scaffold that effectively addresses the limitations of traditional scaffolds by offering enhanced portability, safety, and adaptability to flat and irregular surfaces. The widespread adoption of this scaffold design is expected to have significant implications for the construction industry, improving productivity and safety in construction projects. Abstract There has been a dearth of literature on smoking inequalities, in spite of its contribution to health inequalities. We exploit Italian individual-level data from repeated cross-sections of the annual household survey, “Aspects of Daily Life,” that was part of the Multipurpose Survey carried out by the Italian National Statistical Office (ISTAT) for the period 1999–2012 to identify the main socio-demographic characteristics that determine smoking inequalities. We use the Concentration Index to identify in which groups smoking is relatively more prevalent. We find that, among men, pro-rich inequality is driven by members of the lower socio-economic positions, while we observe the opposite for women. We encourage policymakers to address the issue of smoking inequalities, which the current policies have largely disregarded.

This study evaluated nontherapeutic exercise programs offered in senior living facilities (SLFs), which included nursing homes, licensed and nonlicensed continuing care retirement communities, and senior independent living apartments. Exercise programs were evaluated on five criteria: number of different classes offered, instructors’ employment titles, exercise setting, program staffing levels, and amount and type of exercise equipment. Data revealed that chair exercises were the most common form of exercise, followed by stretching and supervised walking. The majority of exercise leaders were employed full-time (60%) but did not have degrees in exercise science, physical education, nursing, or physical therapy. Programs were mainly offered in multipurpose rooms or in other areas such as dining rooms, hallways, or lounges. Less than 27% of the SLFs followed American College of Sports Medicine exercise guidelines. This study found little consistency in the type of exercise programs offered to older adults in SLFs. Future research should evaluate the effectiveness of exercise classes offered in these facilities.

Abstract Vera C. Rubin Observatory is a ground-based astronomical facility under construction, a joint project of the National Science Foundation and the U.S. Department of Energy, designed to conduct a multipurpose 10 yr optical survey of the Southern Hemisphere sky: the Legacy Survey of Space and Time. Significant flexibility in survey strategy remains within the constraints imposed by the core science goals of probing dark energy and dark matter, cataloging the solar system, exploring the transient optical sky, and mapping the Milky Way. The survey’s massive data throughput will be transformational for many other astrophysics domains and Rubin’s data access policy sets the stage for a huge community of potential users. To ensure that the survey science potential is maximized while serving as broad a community as possible, Rubin Observatory has involved the scientific community at large in the process of setting and refining the details of the observing strategy. The motivation, history, and decision-making process of this strategy optimization are detailed in this paper, giving context to the science-driven proposals and recommendations for the survey strategy included in this Focus Issue.

Today's multipurpose wire bonding machines are required to deliver a combination of wires, bumps, and specialty interconnects for RF, automotive, and optical markets with odd-form factor parts. These market production requirements are generally lower volume with a higher mix of products compared to typical high-volume semiconductor packaging of memory and logic. These markets also require multipurpose wire bonders to accommodate large work area, deep access, and a complex mix of bond surfaces, wire shapes, and bumps. The number of components in a package can vary from one with a few wires up to hundreds of components with thousands of wires. Programming methods, process development, traceability, and rework are different for customers using this class of bonder. A survey of customer application cases shows the range of capabilities available to packaging engineers. The four primary cases presented highlight the range of applications that can be handled for odd-form factor packages and specific areas of focus to maximize productivity for these classes of products.Case 1: Ball Bump Size and Shape Examples: acheiving 119μm down to 44μm bonded ball diameters and range of shapes.Case 2: Ambient Wire Bonding to a 6″ Tall Package: demonstrating allowable bonding volume and tooling flexibility plus the ability to bond Au with substrates at ambient temperature.Case 3: Batch Load Tray (Mechanical and Vacuum Clamping): allowing quick change over for radically different sized packages.Case 4: Complex High Part Count Packages: supporting alternate parts and alternate bonding wires, stand-off stitch, and security bonds require special features for programming and navigation methods to allow easy creation and navigation of complex programs for maximum productivity. Breakdown of timing and efficiency is provided showing programming efficiencies of 2X or better. These cases will help packaging engineers extrapolate to their own cases and show how a multipurpose automatic wire bonder can be an effective way of automating or semi automating these manually or automatically presented packages for higher throughput, higher quality and consistency, and less labor usage for lower cost.

- According to a common conception - among researchers as well - there is no apparent relation between crime perception (or insecurity) indicated in surveys and the crime trend (indicated by the police force), since the perception seems to be influenced above all by what mass-media conveys. Literature indicates two dimensions of crime perception: social concern about criminality and personal fear of the phenomenon. However resorting to a useful empirical indicator, a third dimension may be contemplated between these two: the evaluation of criminality in the residence area. This article considers data that refers to the twenty Italian regions, collected by the National Institution for Statistics - Istat, regarding the Multipurpose Survey on Families. It describes the strong correlation existing between criminality perception in the residence area and the diffusion of certain kinds of predatory crimes, in particular those in which there is a strong author-victim interaction (robbery and bag-snatching) and those in which crime authors are interested in citizens' relevant economical and symbolic goods (houses or cars).

SummarySurveys and on-farm trials are frequently used to facilitate farmer participation in agricultural research. This paper reports on a less common method-farmer involvement in on-station trials. Thirty-nine farmers were invited to multipurpose-tree screening trials in Burundi. Three different methods were used to determine which species the farmers wanted to test on their own farms. Private interviews and voting by a show of hands in plenary sessions gave very similar results whereas focus group interviews produced different and contradictory results. Researchers also learned what criteria farmers used to evaluate trees and the reasons for their choices. A supplementary survey of farmers’ preferences for trees grown on their own farms confirmed the findings and more clearly defined their criteria. In this survey, farmers used a local board game, Bao, to rate tree species across criteria they considered important. Overall, the visit to the trials and follow-up survey proved to be a useful and cost-effective method for getting farmer input and applying it in the screening process.La participación de los agricultores en la selección de especies de árboles

ObjectivePreventable hospitalisations are used internationally as a performance indicator for primary care, but the influence of other health system factors remains poorly understood. This study investigated between-hospital variation in rates of preventable hospitalisation.SettingLinked health survey and hospital admissions data for a cohort study of 266 826 people aged over 45 years in the state of New South Wales, Australia.MethodBetween-hospital variation in preventable hospitalisation was quantified using cross-classified multiple-membership multilevel Poisson models, adjusted for personal sociodemographic, health and area-level contextual characteristics. Variation was also explored for two conditions unlikely to be influenced by discretionary admission practice: emergency admissions for acute myocardial infarction (AMI) and hip fracture.ResultsWe found significant between-hospital variation in adjusted rates of preventable hospitalisation, with hospitals varying on average 26% from the state mean. Patients served more by community and multipurpose facilities (smaller facilities primarily in rural areas) had higher rates of preventable hospitalisation. Community hospitals had the greatest between-hospital variation, and included the facilities with the highest rates of preventable hospitalisation. There was comparatively little between-hospital variation in rates of admission for AMI and hip fracture.ConclusionsGeographic variation in preventable hospitalisation is determined in part by hospitals, reflecting different roles played by community and multipurpose facilities, compared with major and principal referral hospitals, within the community. Care should be taken when interpreting the indicator simply as a performance measure for primary care.

Abstract. The documentation of Cultural Heritage, and in particular architecture, is nowadays conducted with a combination of several geomatic techniques. Most of them relies on the exploitation of 3D point cloud, which is the state of art data to produce almost every output. The starting point of each recovery intervention is the survey, which enable a multidisciplinary approach for the knowledge of a building and, consequently, to preserve it for future generation. When it comes with complex architectures, however, the surveying approach is more compelling and challenging at the same time. The definition of the final accuracy requires a tidy design process that should be done a priori, and a set of strict rules need to be respected. With the advent of new automatic procedures, the number of data collected increases, but this doesn’t mean that well established method, like topography, can be neglected. This work is the demonstration of how old and new method must coexist. The present work describes the work carried out to the complete 3D reconstruction of a complex building, namely the Emir’s Palace place in Kogon, Uzbekistan. Given its dimension and decorative apparatus, maintaining a high standard of definition without losing metrological accuracy was the main challenge. The work was carried out with a combination of both Terrestrial Laser Scanner and Aerial Photogrammetry for the 3D reconstruction, and on a very accurate topographic network for the combination of produced point clouds. The result of this first phase of the work was a polygonal network with a millimetric accuracy. Besides, another important contribution of the paper lies on the exploitation of the panoramic images coming from the TLS within a photogrammetric software. Indeed, by exploiting the depth map, it was possible to produce very detailed orthophotos for the production of 1:10 scale drawings. The work, performed in a joint venture between Academia and SMEs, is an excellent example (useful to be shared within the research community dealing with 3D representation and optimization) of innovative methodologies developed to produce reliable drawings and 3D representation for different purposes, being the starting point for each kind of project.

Eastern Mediterranean University’s Lala Mustafa Paşa hall is a multipurpose auditorium with conflicting functions. It is used for lectures, graduation ceremonies, music performances, shows, and sports. Thus, it is necessary to provide both speech intelligibility and quality sound. Many complaints were made regarding the long reverberation and echoes in the hall. To find the optimum solution for all of these conflicting uses, a survey of the acoustic parameters for music and speech was conducted, the criteria for which were identified. Measurements of these parameters were taken for the unoccupied hall. It was found that the acoustic conditions for both speech and music were in a critical condition in the hall. A simulation program was used to find a suitable solution, and various solutions were tested. The optimum solution was found to be the use of fireproof pyramidal melamine plates on the ceiling, and melamine plates with fireproof textile on the front surface with an air cavity on the walls at the rear. The long sidewalls at various levels on the tribunes were kept untreated. These measures satisfy the criteria for both music and speech without disrupting the sports activities.

Scholars with different backgrounds have carried out extensive surveys centred on how 3D digital models, data acquisition and processing have changed over the years in fields of archaeology and architecture and more in general in the Cultural Heritage panorama: the current framework focused on reality-based modelling is then split in several branches: acquisition, communication and analysis of buildings (Pintus et alii, 2014). Despite the wide set of well-structured and all-encompassing surveys on the IT application in Cultural Heritage, several open issues still seem to be present, in particular once the purpose of digital simulacra is the one to fit with the “pre-informatics" legacy of architectural/archaeological representation (historical drawings with their graphic codes and aesthetics). Starting from a series of heterogeneous matters that came up studying two Italian UNESCO sites, this paper aims at underlining the importance of integrating different pipelines from different technological fields, in order to achieve multipurpose models, capable to comply with graphic codes of traditional survey, as well as semantic enrichment, and last but not least, data compression/portability and texture reliability under different lighting simulation.

The overview article is devoted to the analysis of control systems of autonomous unmanned underwater vehicles, which belong to robotic underwater complexes and are used to provide search and deep-sea emergency and rescue operations, survey of various underwater objects (main pipelines, bottom structures, ship hulls, etc.), conducting scientific oceanographic surveys research, monitoring of the marine environment. The work examines scientific literary sources, which provide the results of development and research of orientation, navigation and motion control systems of multi-purpose autonomous unmanned underwater vehicles with complex movement dynamics, in particular when performing missions in a limited space with movement along complex trajectories. Special attention is focused on such modes of movement of devices as trajectory tracking, path-following and way point tracking. An analysis of the means of navigation and control, which can be used to ensure different modes of movement, was carried out, as well as the directions of development of both the unmanned underwater vehicles themselves and their control systems were considered. In order to substantiate the development of a control system for a multi-purpose maneuverable mini-class autonomous vehicle, the main requirements are formulated. It is proposed to conduct a synthesis and research of the control system based on the simulation of the dynamics of the movement of the mini-vehicle for different modes of movement in terms of parameters and trajectories, to develop algorithms for the adaptive control of the vehicle, to improve the system orientation and navigation, built on the basis of MEMS sensors. An information model of the development process is proposed and substantiated, which specifies the sequence of determining important parameters and characteristics of the vehicle and performing important stages of synthesis and analysis of the control system.

Background Obesity is a national and global public health problem in terms of morbidity, mortality, and economic burden. In 2014, 5% of deaths worldwide were attributable to obesity, with an estimated economic impact of 2.8% of the global gross domestic product. A survey in 2008 showed a high prevalence of overweight and obesity among adults in Jordan. Objective This study aimed to determine the prevalence of obesity, assess its trends, and identify the factors and comorbidities associated with this condition. Methods A multipurpose national household survey was conducted among Jordanian adults over 4 months in 2017. Data were collected using a structured validated questionnaire. Obesity was defined according to the International Diabetes Federation criteria. Results This study included 4056 adults (1193 men, 29.4%; 2863 women, 70.6%). Their age ranged from 18 to 90 years, with a mean age of 43.8 (SD 14.2) years. According to the International Diabetes Federation criteria, the age-standardized prevalence of obesity was 60.4% in men and 75.6% in women. After adjusting for age, the odds of obesity in 2017 were twice the odds in 2008 in men (odds ratio [OR] 1.98) and women (OR 1.96). In the multivariate analysis, age, place of living, and marital status were significantly associated with obesity in men and women. Obesity was significantly associated with increased odds of diabetes mellitus (OR 2.1 for men; OR 2.9 for women), hypertension (OR 2.4 for men; OR 2.5 for women), elevated triglyceride levels (OR 2.5 for men; OR 4.2 for women), and low high-density lipoprotein levels (OR 2.2 for men; OR 2.1 for women) after adjusting for age. Conclusions The prevalence of obesity is high in Jordan, and this condition is associated with other metabolic abnormalities. Well-defined programs to manage, control, and prevent obesity as well as intersectoral action are urgently required to reverse current trends in Jordan.

Aims and background Patterns and trends in smoking habits are a major determinant of subsequent incidence and mortality for lung cancer, and other tobacco related neoplasms on a population level. Methods and study design Smoking prevalence in Italy was analyzed using data from the 1995 National Multipurpose Survey, conducted by the National Institute of Statistics (ISTAT) and based on a sample of 50,585 subjects (24,497 men and 26,088 women), aged 15 years or over, identified in strata of geographic area and size of the municipality in order to be representative of the general Italian population. Data on smoking were obtained through a self-administered questionnaire. Results Overall, 25.3% of Italians aged 15 years or over (34.1% of males, 17.1% of females) described themselves as current smokers, 20.5% (28.0% of males, 13.5% of females) as ex-smokers, and 54.2% (37.9% of males, 69.4% of females) as never smokers. Heavy current smokers (≥15 cigarettes per day) were 15.6% of males and 3.9% of females. Compared to previous surveys, reported smoking prevalence increased, mostly in the youngest age groups (15 to 24 years) in both sexes. However, the increase could be partly or largely attributable to the different modality of data collection (interview in previous surveys, self-administered questionnaire in the present survey), which may have reduced underreporting. Conclusions The data of the 1995 National Household Survey confirmed previous patterns of smoking in Italy, i.e., a higher smoking prevalence in less educated, southern Italian males, and in more educated, northern Italian females. These figures reflect therefore the importance of the social and cultural correlates of smoking. Moreover, the stability in smoking prevalence over the last few years reflects the absence of any organized and structured intervention on a legislation and public health level on the smoking issue in Italy.

Introduction: The current status of percutaneous injury and mucous exposures (PMEs) of hospital workers and factors associated with the injuries have not been studied in Iraq. This study aimed to evaluate the epidemiology of PMEs with blood or body fluids that leads serious risks for healthcare workers (HCWs). Methodology: An analytic, cross-sectional survey study was conducted among HCWs in Erbil city center, Iraq. The study was performed at sevenhospitals, and 177 participants were included. The dependent variable was the occurrence of PMEs in the last year, and the independent variables were age, sex, occupation of HCWs, working site, and work duration. Results: A total of 177 HCW participants included 57 nurses/midwives (32.2%), 59 doctors (33.3%), 27 laboratory workers (15.3%), and 34 paramedics/multipurpose workers (19.2%) from seven hospitals. The study concluded that 67.8% of the participants reported at least one occupational PME in the last year. In all, 13.3/person/year PME incidents were reported for nurses, 9.74/person/year for paramedics/multipurpose workers, 6.71/person/year for doctors, and 3.37/person/year laboratory workers. The mean number of PME incidents was 8.91/person/year. HCWs showed 85.0% compliance with wearing mask in risky situations. The most dangerous action for occupational exposure was blood taking (39.0%). In the univariate analysis, none of the investigated variables were found to be significantly related to PME. Conclusions: Occupational injuries and exposures in Iraqi HCWs are extremely common; awareness about protection is not sufficient. Nurses were found to be the highest risk group among HCWs. Preventive actions should be taken to avoid infection.

Abstract. Accurate and spatially explicit information on forest fuels becomes essential to designing an integrated fire risk management strategy, as fuel characteristics are critical for fire danger estimation, fire propagation, and emissions modelling, among other aspects. This paper proposes a new European fuel classification system that can be used for different spatial scales and purposes (propagation, behaviour, and emissions). The proposed classification system is hierarchical and encompasses a total of 85 fuel types, grouped into six main fuel categories (forest, shrubland, grassland, cropland, wet and peat/semi-peat land, and urban), plus a nonfuel category. For the forest cover, fuel types include two vertical strata, overstorey and understorey, to account for both surface and canopy fuels. In addition, this paper presents the methods to map fuel types at the European scale, including the first-level of the classification system. Land cover, biogeographic datasets, and bioclimatic modelling were used. The final map, which is publicly available (https://doi.org/10.21950/YABYCN; Aragoneses et al., 2022a), included 20 fuel categories at 1 km spatial resolution. A first assessment of this map was performed using field information obtained from LUCAS (Land Use and Coverage Area frame Survey), complemented with high-resolution data. This validation exercise provided an overall accuracy of 88 % for the main fuel types and 81 % for all mapped fuel types. To facilitate the use of this fuel dataset in fire behaviour modelling, an assignment of fuel parameters to each fuel type was performed by developing a crosswalk to the standard fuel models defined by Scott and Burgan (2005; FBFMs – Fire Behavior Fuel Models), considering European climate diversity. This work has been developed within the framework of the FirEUrisk project, which aims to create a European-integrated strategy for fire danger assessment, reduction, and adaptation.

The study assessed cooperative members’ participation and its effect on their equity shareholding benefit. This cross-sectional designed study covered 371 stallholders’ wheat producing members from 27 primary cooperatives in three wheat producing districts. Survey questionnaire and key informant interviews were used for data collection. Multiple linear regression analyses were done on six participation variables to identify their relationship with members’ individual equity shareholding benefit. The result showed that, three participation variables, namely years in membership, number of shares, and quantity of wheat produce supplied were identified as significant predictors of benefit (p<0.05) and are therefore, deemed to have influence on the individual equity shareholding of members in their cooperatives. Based on the study findings the study recommended that the regional cooperative agency and affiliated zonal and district public service providing structures should work on how to strengthen those participation aspects having influence on member’s equity shareholding benefit. This can be used as springboard to further encourage members’ participation. Increased equity shareholding in turn, will contribute and eventually address the recurrently reported financial problem of cooperative societies both investment and working capital and their dependence on fragile external sources; on sustainable manner. Cooperative societies should encourage members to supply more quality produce to their cooperatives by giving them tangible benefits in price reward and patronage dividend. The Regional and Federal governments need to create a supportive policy environment to enable farmers’ cooperative societies to own the fertilizer business, including importing and distribution to the village level, which is the main function that these societies are assumed to perform. More importantly, focus should be given to improve members’ participation on the management and decision-making process. This is because, as members based entity, the fundamental organizational characteristics of cooperative, which is members’ ownership, use and control is assumed to be manifested in due process of making decisions that are affecting the affairs of their society. Many people in the semi-arid tropics strongly depend on non-timber forest products (NTFPs) for livelihood. Increasing threats on NTFP-providing tree species, due to land-use intensification and over-harvesting, require ecological studies as well as additional information provided by local people. One important NTFP-providing tree in West Africa is Anogeissus leiocarpa. Even though this species is highly used, ethnobotanical studies on A. leiocarpa are scarce and address mainly qualitative aspects. Our study investigates uses, perceptions of the population development, and management strategies of A. leiocarpa among the Gulimanceba people in eastern Burkina Faso. We conducted a quantitative ethnobotanical survey and investigated distribution of traditional ecological knowledge related to the species on a local scale, i.e. difference in knowledge between villages, genders, and generations. Interviews reveal that A. leiocarpa is harvested by local people for 18 different uses and emphasize its high importance for local people. Ethnobotanical knowledge of A. leiocarpa was mostly evenly spread between genders and generations, while it slightly differed between villages. Although local people did not actively protect A. leiocarpa, current local harvesting modes and management resulted in sustainable use. However, ongoing land-use intensifications require adapted management strategies to guarantee the persistence of this important species. Our results provide, in combination with ecological results of our previous study, appropriate management recommendations. Our study emphasizes the importance of ethnobotanical studies on a local scale level in order to develop management strategies that are reliable in the specific area under the specific circumstances.

Homestead agriculture refers to cultivation around the immediate surroundings of home. This study was conducted to determine the prospects and constraints involved in the adoption of mechanization in the field of homestead agriculture. A general survey was conducted among the homestead farmers of different regions of Kerala to prioritise the constraints faced by the. Using Garrett’s ranking method identified constraints were evaluated and finalized the major one which is restricting the farmers to adopt mechanization in homestead agriculture. It was found that the cultural operations were done using manual labour. Hence drudgery involved in the system was found to be more and time consumption also was high. These two factors need to be addressed hence appropriate and affordable mechanization was required to sustain homestead agriculture. A multipurpose tool carrier powered by a portable engine was identified to serve the purpose.

Data Technology industry has been utilizing the customary social databases for around 40 years. Be that as it may, in the latest years, there was a generous transformation in the IT business as far as business applications. Remain solitary applications have been supplanted with electronic applications, conferred servers with different proper servers and committed stockpiling with framework stockpiling. Lower expense, adaptability, the model of pay-as-you-go are the fundamental reasons, which caused the conveyed processing are transformed into reality. This is a standout amongst the hugest upsets in Information Technology, after the development of the Internet. Cloud databases, Big Table, Sherpa, and SimpleDB are getting the opportunity to be more natural to groups. They featured the hindrances of current social databases as far as convenience, adaptability, and provisioning. Cloud databases are basically utilized for data raised applications, for example, stockpiling and mining of gigantic information or business information. These applications are adaptable and multipurpose in nature. Various esteem based data organization applications, such as managing an account, online reservation, e-exchange and stock organization, and so on are delivered. Databases with the help of these sorts of uses need to incorporate four essential highlights: Atomicity, Consistency, Isolation, and Durability (ACID), in spite of the fact that utilizing these databases isn't basic for utilizing as a part of the cloud. The objective of this paper is to discover the points of interest and disservices of databases generally utilized in cloud frameworks and to survey the difficulties in creating cloud databases

The subjective judgment on the annoyance produced by noise is always an important tool to complete an investigation, and to find the best way for its reduction. Therefore, acoustic analyses for environmental improvement frequently combine objective measures with subjective surveys to gain a comprehensive understanding of the problem. The technical specification, concerning the “Assessment of noise annoyance by means of social and socio-acoustic surveys”, ISO/TS 15666 (revised in 2021), has represented a basis for these activities since 2003, when it aimed to obtain information about noise annoyance “at home”. The more recent ISO/TS 12913-2 (2018), aimed at soundscape studies, investigations and applications, provides guidelines for conducting social and socio-acoustic surveys to assess noise annoyance and, in particular, it gives detailed indications on data collection and reporting. The indications provided by the technical specifications represent a common guideline for addressing the implementation of a subjective survey in the acoustic field, and to make investigations as comparable as possible. However, they do not cover all the fields of acoustic subjective investigations. Therefore, to make the collection of information from questionnaires more effective, it is useful to have a broader review of the issues that need to be addressed. To support this type of activity, this paper collects and presents relevant observations for the design of subjective survey questionnaires focused on outdoor acoustic quality. Drawing on previous research studies and experiences, it provides a series of observations on the main aspects to be considered in order to structure multipurpose acoustic evaluation questionnaires, including discussion of the general considerations for questionnaire structure, administration methods, population sample characterization, question formulation, and classification. It also deals with specific indications related to acoustic evaluations, such as the characteristics of annoying noise, boundary conditions, subjective feelings, and source features.

AbstractThe use of versatile and multipurpose robotic systems in underwater sites constitutes a high-value technology, useful in the exploration, monitoring, and documentation of important archaeological findings or biological parameters. Intervention must always be nondestructive, noninvasive, and delicate; for this reason, it is important to develop tools and systems that allow telepresence and improve the pilot's ability to work in conditions and environments that are dangerous and often inaccessible for divers. One of the most important objectives of underwater robotic research includes developing easy-to-use devices and systems that can safely and efficiently be operated by relatively inexperienced operators. Nowadays, archaeological and marine sanctuaries require a significant budget to be studied and preserved by national and international organizations because of their large number and the challenges related to conducting surveys with “light” equipment and robots. This paper presents a set of tools and technological solutions developed with the common aim of improving the efficiency of diving operations and commercial low-cost micro-ROVs (remotely operated vehicles) in surveying and documenting fragile underwater sites. In particular, this paper describes a force feedback joystick for ROV precise guidance and positioning, an innovative 3D live streaming capability for better perception of the work environment, and an innovative cloud strategy for processing, archiving, and elaborating on underwater data at the time of survey. Results have demonstrated that the developed tools significantly improve the efficiency of survey investigations performed directly by scientists and that they have a variety of applications and their design prepares them for future integration.
