A multi-storey building is just a building that has multiple storeys above the ground. A multi storied building is either residential or commercial. Migration of individuals from rural to urban centres where job opportunities are significant. The land available for building to accommodate this migration is becoming scarce which ends in rapid increase within the cost of land. And this leads to construction of multi-storeyed buildings as they supply an outsized floor area in an exceedingly relatively small area of land in urban cities. A comparison of highrise buildings by response spectrum analysis in different seismic zones of India. The main objective of this research paper is to compare regular and irregular buildings in seismic zone III & zone V by response spectrum analysis in STAAD. Pro. The soil type taken into consideration is medium soil type. The aim is to find base shear, storey drift and story displacement and eigen value and eigen vector by response spectrum analysis. Cost analysis has also been done. Analysis is done as per IS 456:2000 and IS 1893:2002. It focuses on dynamic analysis of buildings. Without increasing the area, we can extend only the building’s floor to design a multi-storied building as this will save overall building cost. Key Words: Seismic Analysis, Response Spectrum Analysis, Base Shear, Storey Drift, Story Displacement, STAAD.Pro

Vibration of ground is the main cause of earthquake damage to building structures. There are many factors responsible for the strength of earthquake shaking at a site including the earthquake's magnitude, the site's proximity to the fault, the local geology, and the soil type. The natural disasters have been fast recurring all over the world causing great concern and damage to man and their properties. Among these disasters Earthquake is an endogenous natural disaster, which occurs suddenly without any warning. The vast devastation of engineering systems and facilities during the past earthquakes has exposed serious deficiencies in the prevalent design and construction. Shear wall is one of the most commonly used lateral load resisting in high rise buildings. Shear wall can be used to simultaneously resist large horizontal load and support gravity load. In the study, one tall RCC building of 13 stories is assumed to be situated in seismic zone V is analysed using two methods (Static and Dynamic Analysis). The share walls are taken at different position of building. The comparison of the different shear wall models is studied in this work against the different parameters like time period, bending moment, shear force, storey drift, displacement

Concrete is good in compression and weak in tension and the steel is strong in tension. So the use of reinforced concrete to resist compression and to hold bars in position and to the steel resist tension. In India RCC structures are commonly used in residential as well as business buildings. Nowadays the Post Tensioning method is widely used due to its advantages. Post tensioning is a form of prestressing, that means the steel is stressed before the concrete has to support the service loads. In this paper is exposed to the assessment of execution of Reinforced concrete beam (RCC beam) and Post-Tensioning beam (PT beam) multistoried building structure framework with seismic load using ETABS software. And also evaluate the performance of PT beam under different seismic zone (zone I, zone II) evaluate the performance of PT beam under soil type (medium soil) and compare the performance of RCC deep beam and PT beam with multistory building system with seismic loading performance.

Streszczenie:
Seismic response of multi-storied base-isolated building on various isolation systems connected using viscous dampers to an adjacent dissimilar base-isolated or fixed-base building is investigated. The multi-storied buildings are modeled as a shear type structures with lateral degree-of-freedom at each floor, which are connected at different floor levels by the viscous dampers. Performance of this novel combination is studied by deriving the governing equations of motion and solving it in the incremental form using Newmark's step by-step method of integration. The variation of top floor absolute acceleration and bearing displacement under different real earthquake ground motions is computed to study the behavior and effectiveness of the connected systems. It is concluded that connecting the two adjacent base-isolated buildings with the viscous dampers is helpful in controlling large bearing displacement in the base-isolated structures; thereby, eliminating isolator damages arising due to instability at large displacement or pounding with adjacent structures during the earthquakes. Parametric studies are also performed to identify optimal parameters such as damper damping and distribution pattern of viscous dampers to achieve the maximum response reduction in the damper-linked adjacent buildings. The connection of viscous dampers to adjacent structures are found to be most effective when: (i) the adjacent base-isolated and fixed-base buildings are connected, (ii) dissimilar isolation systems are used for the two adjacent buildings, (iii) the time periods of adjacent structures are well separated, and (iv) the superstructure flexibility is higher.

Abstract The topic “Dynamic analysis of multistoried irregular building using Staad pro”is a topic of major concern as with industrialization and development most of the population opt for urban areas. The structural stability of a building has to be compromised in order to attain lateral loads due to earthquake and wind in concurrence to gravity loads. Hence, it is quite evident for a structure to have sufficient strength and enough stiffness to resist loads. Design and analysis nowadays are convenient as well as affordable just because of the availability of computers and specialized programs. The multistoried building is designed using software Staad pro v8i. The paper deals with analysing three different models of irregular multi story building (G+10) with a height of each floor as 3m having response factor as 5, importance factor as 1.2, soil type as medium soil, structure type 1 with a damping ration of 5% is taken into consideration. The loads being used in the analysis are Dead load which is considered as per IS 875 part 1, live load as per IS 875 part 2 and seismic load as per IS 1893 part 1. The beams, columns and slabs are celibately designed in software. Results of three models are then compared as per storey drift, displacement and base shear.

Abstract: Major structural collapses occur when a building is under the action of Dynamic Loads which includes both Earthquake and Wind loads. In these modern days, most of the structures are involved with architectural importance and it is highly impossible to plan with regular shapes. These irregularities are responsible for structural collapse of buildings under the action of dynamic loads. Hence, extensive research is required for achieving ultimate performance even with a poor configuration. In the present work, “Effect Of Vertical Irregularity In Multi-Storied Buildings Under Dynamic Loads Using Linear Static Analysis”, considering four types of 20- Storied 3-D frames (i.e., a symmetrical elevation configuration throughout its height and three other frames with unsymmetrical vertical configuration starting from tenth floor, placed at corner, at the center and at edge of the plan respectively) it is focused to study their response using Linear Static Analysis.

Abstract: Many past earthquake studies show that during strong vibrations, the adjacent building structures which are closely spaced to each other are vulnerable to severe damage when the adjacent buildings are not at an adequate distance to accommodate their relative displacements. The primary goal of this research is to find out the minimum separation gap between buildings of varying height at the same floor-to-floor height level. SAP 2000 software is used to analyze the structural behavior of building during the earthquake.Three building models are taken for the study, one is six floors (G+6) and another two are nine floors (G+9), and twelve floors (G+12) respectively. Six floors (G+6)& twelve floors (G+12) structures have the same floor to floor height and plan and same beam and column size (equal stiffness) and G+9 buildings have floor to floor height are same but different beam and column sizes (different stiffness). The linear dynamic (RSA) analysis method is used to calculate the response (Displacement, frequency at fundamental time, Base Shear) of the structure at different floors levels. Response (top story displacements) calculated from the response spectrum is compared with the provisions of seismic gap per story height given in IS 4326: 2005.

Structural design is an investigation method of the rigidity, strength and stability of the building. The essential aim in structural analysis and design is to construct a structure capable of overcoming all applied loads without failure during its intended life. This project attempts to understand the structural behavior of various components in the multi-storied building. planning, analysis, designing of multi-storied building has been taken up for residential building (G+2). Thereby depending on the suitability of plan, layout of beams and positions of columns are fixed. Dead loads are calculated based on material properties and live loads are considered according to the code IS875-part 2, footings are designed based on safe bearing capacity of soil. For the design of columns and beams analysis is done by limit state method to know the moments they are acted upon. Slab designing is done depending upon the type of slab (one way or two way), end conditions and the loading. From the slabs the loads are transferred to the beams, thereafter the loads from the beams are taken up by the columns and then to footing finally the section is checked for the components manually and using STAAD Pro V8i software for the analysis of structure, maximum shear force, maximum bending moment are computed.

Due to the application of advanced material technology, concrete with high compressive strength is currently produced and used in many countries. This type of concrete can be produced by micro-silica and superplasticizers as well as applying good quality control procedures. The use of high-strength concrete (HSC) in building construction is becoming popular because it has many advantages such as increased strength and stiffness, reduced size of concrete sections, improved resistance to creep and drying shrinkage, and material durability. Therefore we can use high strength concrete (HSC) in columns and normal strength concrete (NSC) for beams & floor sections. Thus this study will investigate the performance of 8 storey tall buildings in ZoneIV for medium grade soil with varying high strength concrete (HSC) normal strength concrete (NSC) subjected to far-field ground motions scaled to collapse of the structure using varying grades (M20, M25, M30, M35, M40, and M50) of concrete strength subjected to seismic ground motions scaled to collapse of the structure using a linear static method and this will be achieved through analytical modeling and analysis using ETABS2018 software.

Multi‐storied building construction is increasing rapidly throughout the world. Tall buildings more effectively utilize land compared to low rise building. As the height of building increases the importance of lateral load resisting system becomes more relevant than gravity load resisting structural system. Many structural systems are recently introduced to improve the structural performance of tall buildings. Hexagrid system is one among them. Hexagrid system consists of multiple hexagonal grids at the exterior perimeter of the building. It resists both lateral loads and gravity loads by axial stress of their members. The members simply act in tension or compression and show no bending which reduces the need of steel. The paper presents the comparison of different patterns of hexagrid system.

Abstract The aim of this paper is to analysis of a multi-stored building [G+5] using STAAD Pro by considering different seismic zones. The analysis of a multi-stored building [G+5] initially for all type of loads (Seismic load, Dead load, Live load and Wind load) and possible load combinations are performed as per Indian codes. The seismic analysis is done under different zones which are Zone-II, Zone-III, Zone-IV, Zone-V and also zone factor values are considered as per IS 1893-2002 (Part-1). By considering each zone factor value and loads including self-weight, member weight, floor weight in seismic load, dead load, live load and wind loads the structure may affect. Also observing the Shear force, bending moment and deflection values for the whole building in different Seismic zones by using STAAD Pro. In analysing the whole structure considering all parameters like all loads (live load, dead load, seismic loads wind load) and type of structure, damping ratio, importance factor, response reduction factor, zone factor/different cities under different zones plays major role in building how it reacts to it and by shear force, bending moment, deflection values states that it is safe in particular zones or all the factors must be taken in consideration to imply the building is safe or not.

Abstract Construction Industry indicates development of the country and it helps in the economic growth which adds productivity and quality of life of citizens. During the manufacturing and the construction processes, there is use and combustion of fossil fuels which results total 39% of total carbon footprint. So, studying carbon footprint for construction companies becomes very important. Many different studies are carried out with giving number of alternatives to reduce the amount of carbon footprint. However, this research is focused mainly on multi-storeyed residential building in renowned city in India, shows the carbon emissions produced by a construction activity right from the material production to the actual execution process. Different Greenhouse gases contributing carbon footprint were also studied & incorporated. Various activities accounting to emissions were listed and their carbon footprint value (in the form of Carbon Dioxide equivalent) was calculated by bottom-up method. The manufacturing of various construction materials and usage of electricity during execution phases of a building causes very bad impact on the environment. The greatest contributors of the carbon footprint are onsite electricity use and building materials manufacturing. Therefore, use of green concrete, renewable energy, prefabricated construction materials and low emission construction equipment & vehicles can help in reducing the values of Carbon Footprint by the construction industry.

Abstract: Any Structure that is designed in today’s world has to be designed not only for aesthetics but also for stability. These days high rise multi storied structures are quiet prominent. These types of structures, should not only be designed for aesthetic point of view but also must be designed to resist earthquake forces which are subjected on these structures. These earthquake forces acting on the structures are also known as seismic forces. Due to architectural purposes, some buildings, have openings, provided in them, this creates structural discontinuities in the building. These openings or discontinuities can change the load transfer path of the structures which may cause significant change in the building behavior, under the application of the seismic forces. In this paper pushover analysis is carried out to study the behavior of the building in case of architectural opening for staircase or cut outs etc which results in discontinuity in the structure. Abstract Viscous and viscoelastic dampers are passive energy dissipation devices that are used in multi storied buildings to reduce the effect of lateral vibrations arising from earthquakes and wind. Passive devices are those that require no energy to function. The performance of such devices can be affected by many factors like seismic zone, building height, soil type and placement of dampers. In this paper, the effect of using viscous and visco-elastic dampers on response of multi-story building was investigated. For this purpose, multi-story building was modelled in Finite element software. Various parameters like height of building, seismic zone, soil type and placement of dampers were varied in the FEM model. To investigate the seismic response, non-linear time history analysis was performed by subjecting the building to ground motion (Imperial Valley 1940). Seismic responses of the models were studied and compared in terms of results like top floor (roof) displacement, storey drift and ground floor level (base) shear. It was found that viscous dampers are more effective in dissipating energy. Optimum position of dampers was also found out. All the parametric results were obtained and plotted in graphs.

Abstract Symmetric and asymmetric structures behave differently under external loads even though they are of an equal number of stories or equal in dimensions. It is necessary to estimate the dynamic properties of the asymmetric structures carefully to avoid failure. Modal analysis for symmetric and asymmetric multi-storied reinforced concrete (RC) buildings is very essential to assess the dynamic characteristics of the structure. The plan asymmetric buildings with the shift of core from a central position to different positions and vertical asymmetry with the mass variation in vertical direction and setback stories are considered for the present study. Flexural beam elements are modelled to represent the columns. Two translations i.e., longitudinal, and transverse displacements of the building and rotation about the vertical axis of the structure are taken as global degrees of freedom at each node. The distance between the mass center and stiffness centre on each floor is taken as eccentricity. A finite element model is developed using MATLAB code to estimate the natural frequencies. Different RCC structures of 5 to 20-storied buildings are modelled by developing global stiffness and mass matrices based on the member connectivity. Eigen-value technique is used to estimate the natural frequencies. From the study it is observed that the natural period in asymmetric structures is found more than the symmetric building. The structure with setback also showed larger natural period.

Bhubaneswar with a warm and humid climate and with humidity much higher than the comfort level requires an enhanced natural ventilation to achieve long term quality of life. The building code which regulates the fabric of the city at present follows a standardized set of regulations governed by National Building Code of India and is developed without giving much consideration to climate. Ground coverage is an important parameter which regulates the footprint of the blocks and allows natural ventilation to buildings as well to outdoor. At present, Bhubaneswar does not prescribe a ground coverage for its apartments and completely dependent on FAR control. As a result, the developments consider quite high ground coverage in certain areas. This particular research focusses on analyzing the current situation of multi storied apartments and proposes a few climate centric recommendations for the byelaw. To examine the situation and arrive at a strategy, a simulation study has been carried out by altering the ground coverage and building orientation of a multistoried apartment consisting of 5 residential blocks to analyze the effect of natural ventilation. The study inferred that, building layout and orientation in relation to wind direction plays an important role for natural ventilation in the outdoors. A climate centric byelaw ideally should consider both while formulating its building code.

In past decades, shear walls and x bracing are one of the most appropriate and important structural component in multi-storied building. Therefore, it is very interesting to study the structural response and their systems in multi-storied structure during lateral load i.e earthquake loading. Shear walls and belt truss contribute the stiffness and strength during earthquakes which are often neglected during design of structure and construction. The scope of present paper is to study the effect of seismic loading on placement of belts truss in building at different alternative location. This study shows the effect of belts truss and bracing belts truss which significantly affect the vulnerability of structures. In order to test this hypothesis, RCC building was considered with and without belts truss at different location. The aim of the paper is to detail and conceptualize the varied configurations of belt truss structures system and to integrate current structures into longer structures by use of belt truss system at different location. Additionally, various advantage and disadvantage associated with outriggers and belt truss system also are discussed in this paper. A close of literature review within the field of Outrigger system is applied and therefore the summary on belts truss and gaps encountered within the study are listed during this paper. This paper introduces belt truss at different location. In which, using the belt truss structural within the RCC building so as to extend the performance of the building under the earthquake load and wind loads is studied. Concept of belt truss as Virtual outrigger is reviewed within the paper.

In this paper, the study on the multi-storied building with and without expansion joint when it is subjected to seismic forces in both x and y direction are taken into consideration. By maintain same floor area of different plans the expansion joint is provided along the weaker column forces stretch and stiffed the building in order to make more resistant when compared to the plans without expansion joints. The analysis is done using ETABS 2016. The parameters such as shear force and bending moment at the critical column are considered and compared for with expansion joint and without expansion joint. It is concluded that the L shaped building shear force is being decreased from the bottom to top storey of the building when compared to without expansion joint. The effect of expansion joint is shown effectively on U-shaped building in terms of reduction of shear force and bending moment when compared to L-shaped and T-shaped, it is because of providing two expansion joints since there are two critical and weaker columns stretch. When it comes to economy of the structure, the cost of the construction of the structure with expansion joint is relatively high but it can resistant far better in case of seismic forces. The future scope of the study can be the type of filler material to be used such that the reduction of cost and to maintain structure integrity.

To make the analysis of these different four plan configurations, the modelling is done prior in the ETABS:2016 (Extended Three-Dimensional analysis of building system). An effort is made by providing all the load combinations and the performance of each plan is analysed individually and the comparison is made between symmetrically and asymmetrically plan configurations by keeping the floor area constant. After completion of the analysis, the comparison of storey displacement, base shear and storey drift is made and conclude that the symmetrical plans are superior when compared to asymmetrical plans in the view of the resistance against the seismic forces. Further the expansions joints are to be provided in the asymmetrical plans to ensure the safety against the seismic forces.

Abstract: The construction of high-rise reinforced concrete buildings, mainly in major cities, is on the flow. So, as the structure becomes tall, it becomes sensitive to lateral loads like wind load and earthquake load. So, it is very important that the building should be safe in dynamic loads because it varies in magnitude with time. This paper presents a summary of research work already done in the seismic & wind analysis of multi-storied buildings with different irregular and complex plan shapes. The effect of shear wall, variation of seismic zone & wind speed also considered along with it. Methods used in the analysis of the seismic & wind analysis for different shaped buildings by different researchers are studied. Wide span required for Flat slab, Waffle slab and ribbed slab stands An excellent option for architects when larger openings in a building need to be covered with as few columns as possible. The use of different types of plates is developing as a new trend and is becoming a major challenge for structural engineers. Therefore, it is necessary to study about its structural behavior. The project is carried out under earthquake zone III under the earthquake analysis of G+9 storey building. For this study, four different types of large span slab structure are modelled in C-shape (Horizontal Setback Building) having 10-stories i.e. G+9 storied buildings with 3.50 meters height for each story is modelled and analysed. The plan area of all four buildings is same i.e. 2859 square meters (49.50 m x 82.50 m) each. Sloshing liquid dampers (SLDs), popularly known as tuned liquid dampers, are used as passive control devices for reducing structural vibrations resulting from wind and earthquake excitations in tall buildings and high-rise structures. Available research studies on these dampers mostly deal with single-degree-of-freedom (SDOF) structures although tall buildings and high-rise structures are generally multi-degree-of-freedom (MDOF) structures. In the present investigation, effectiveness of these SLDs has been studied for MDOF building structures. Five-storied shear buildings have been considered as representative of MDOF structures. It is shown that the liquid sloshing is the most important design parameter, rather than tuning of the fundamental sloshing frequency to the structure frequency, for the liquid damper to be effective. Furthermore, the liquid damper design for multistory buildings is different from that for SDOF structures, where not only the optimal tuning ratio of the liquid damper is different, but multiple dampers located at critical locations are required for effective control of floor accelerations. Finally, it is illustrated that SLDs, if appropriately designed, can be very effective in reducing overall force, floor acceleration, and deformation responses of MDOF building structures for broad-band earthquake type base excitations.

The field of Earthquake Engineering has existed in our country for over 35 years now. Indian earthquake engineers have made significant contributions to the seismic safety of several important structures in the country. However, as the recent earthquakes have shown, the performance of normal structures during past Indian earthquakes has been less satisfactory. This is mainly due to the lack of awareness amongst most practising engineers of the special provisions that need to be followed in earthquake resistant design and thereafter in construction. In India, the multi-storied building is constructed due to high cost and scarcity of land. In order to utilize maximum land area, builders and architects generally proposed asymmetrical plan configuration. These asymmetrical plan buildings, which are constructed in seismic prone areas, are likely to be damaged during earthquake. Earthquake is a natural phenomenon which can be generate the most destructive forces on structure. Buildings should be made Safe for lives by proper design and detailing of structural member in order to have a ductile form of failure. The concept of earthquake resistant design is that the building should be designed to resist the forces, which arises due to Design Basic Earthquake, with only minor damages and the forces which arises due to Maximum Considered Earthquake, with some accepted structural damages but no collapse. This paper studies the Earthquake Resisting Building.
