Streszczenie:
Differently from manufacturing operations, which have a combination of tangible and intangible resources, services are characterized by intensive competencies and knowledge. Several services intensive organizations present a model called multi sites. In this model, the service provider company has several work teams, called in this work full service sites, installed full time at client sites. The challenge for these organizations is to manage the knowledge acquired in these various sites in order not to lose the knowledge created from the improvement, problem solving and innovations implemented in the processes of customer. Thus, this paper aims to analyze the stages that constitute the knowledge management process in the multi-sites service provider company context. The research results point to a model based on joint working between sites and full service center for excellence. The latter's mission is to identify, assess, store and distribute knowledge among sites, acting as a department that centralizes the knowledge management process.

Streszczenie:
Various approaches uses business process models as starting point to derive software services. The first and the important task for developing service-oriented models is service identification. However, the majority of existing methods for service identification are developed manually because, on the one hand, they are based on the competence of the developers and, on the other hand, the business process models do not comprise sufficient knowledge to identify services automatically. The integration of Business Process Modeling (BPM), Model-Driven Development (MDD), and Ontology-based Semantic Annotation (OSA) allows the automation of the SOA (Service-Oriented Architecture) services development. Three steps are used for developing an SOA solution: service identification, service specification and finally service realization. In this paper, the authors illustrate a method called MOOSI (Multi-Objective Optimization-based Service Identification) that automatically identifies the architecturally significant elements from an annotated business process model in order to specify service model artifacts. The main goal of this work is to support the automation of the development process of service-oriented enterprise information system. The implementation results of our proposed method are discussed. This result shows that MOOSI can achieve high performance in terms of execution time and important quality in terms of modularization quality of identified services compared with other solution.

A multi-level model automotive service performance evaluation model was established based on the servicer-core automotive service network model was proposed. The model was divided into three interrelated levels: the business level, the process level, the learning and development level, respectively used to evaluate business conditions, operating process and development potential of the object. A fuzzy AHP evaluation model for automotive supply chain collaboration performance evaluation was established. A case study was used to show the feasibility of this evaluation model. The results show that, supply chain collaboration performance result of the object was slightly lower than the regional average. Services of the object had unbalanced development and some indicators had great room for improvement.

Streszczenie:
PurposeInnovation in services is thought to be multi‐dimensional in nature, and in this context the purpose of this paper is to present and operationalise the concept of “elevated service offerings” (ESO) in collaborating service organisations. ESO stands for new or enhanced service offerings which can only be eventuated as a result of partnering, and which could not be delivered on individual organisational merit. ESO helps us expand our understanding of service innovation to include a service network or service system's dimension.Design/methodology/approachA structural equation model is specified and estimated based on constructs and relationships grounded in the literature, as well as self‐developed constructs, using empirical data from 449 respondents in an Australian telecommunications service provider (SP) and its partnering organisations.FindingsResults show that ESO is a multi‐dimensional construct which was operationalised and validated through an extensive literature review, exploratory factor analysis, confirmatory factor analysis, and structural equation modelling using a holdout sample.Research limitations/implicationsQualitative and empirical data analysis was undertaken with data collected from a single large telecommunications SP organisation, and its partnering organisations. Future research may seek to collect data from the entire telecommunications industry sector and their partnering organisations, across other service sectors, or even any other organisation where collaboration is pivotal to their success.Practical implicationsService organisations today need to understand that innovation in services is not just about process or product innovation, or even performance and productivity improvements, but in fact includes organisational forms of innovation. Indeed, the interactions and complementarities between the three different aspects of ESO – strategic, productivity, and performance – highlight the increasing complex and multi‐dimensional character of innovation and the ongoing iterative process.Originality/valueThis research provides empirical evidence for the existence of a multi‐dimensional innovation in services construct – known as elevated service offerings in a collaborative service network, along with an adapted definition of service and a service innovation model.

<p>When a cloud manufacturing environment extends to multi-user agent, multi-service agent and multi-regional spaces, the process of manufacturing services faces increased disturbances. When a task exception occurs because of disturbance, it is necessary to quickly reschedule the service task. We propose a multi-agent simulation modeling approach to simulate and evaluate the service process and task rescheduling strategy of cloud manufacturing, with which impact parameters can be achieved through careful study under different system disturbances. First, the simulation evaluation index is designed. In addition to the quality of service index of cloud manufacturing, the adaptive ability of task rescheduling strategy in response to a system disturbance is considered, and the flexibility of cloud manufacturing service index is proposed. Second, considering the substitution of resources, the internal and external transfer strategies of service providers are proposed. Finally, a simulation model of the cloud manufacturing service process of a complex electronic product is constructed by multi-agent simulation, and simulation experiments under multiple dynamic environments are designed to evaluate different task rescheduling strategies. The experimental results indicate that the external transfer strategy of the service provider in this case has higher quality of service and flexibility of service. Sensitivity analysis indicates that the matching rate of substitute resources for internal transfer strategy of service providers and the logistics distance of external transfer strategy of service providers are both sensitive parameters, which have significant impacts on the evaluation indexes.</p>

In the new-normal era, public services must make various adjustments to keep the community safe during the COVID-19 pandemic. The Public Service Mall is an initiative to put several public services offices in a centralized location. However, it will create a crowd of people who want access to public service. This paper evaluates multi-tenant models with the rapid adaptation of cloud computing technology for all organizations' shapes and sizes, focusing on multi-tenants and multi-services, where each tenant might have multiple services to offer. We also proposed a multi-tenant architecture that can serve queues in several places to prevent the spread of COVID-19 due to the crowd of people in public places. The design of multi-tenants and multi-services applications should consider various aspects such as security, database, data communication, and user interface. We designed and built the "QuAntri'' business logic to simplify the process for multi-services in each tenant. The developed system is expected to improve tenants' performance and reduce the crowd in the public service. We compared our agile method for system development with some of the previous multi-tenant architectures. Our experiments showed that our method overall is better than the referenced model-view-controller (MVC), model-view-presenter (MVP), and model-model-view-presenter (M-MVP).

Streszczenie:
With the rapid development of service-oriented computing, an overwhelming number of web services have been published online. Developers can create mashups that combine one or multiple services to meet complex business requirements. To speed up the mashup development process, recommending suitable services for developers is a vital problem. In this paper, we address the data sparsity and cold-start problems faced in service recommendation, and propose a novel multi-relational graph convolutional network framework (MRGCN) for service recommendation. Specifically, we first construct a multi-relational mashup-service graph with three types of relations, namely composition relation, functional relation, and tagging relation. These three relations are indispensable and complement each other for capturing multi-view information. Then, the three relations in the graph are seamlessly fused with various strategies. Next, graph convolution is performed on the fused multi-relational graph to capture the high-order relational information between mashups and services. Finally, the relevance between mashup requirements and services is predicted based on the learned features on the graph. We conduct extensive experiments on the ProgrammableWeb dataset and demonstrate that our proposed method can outperform state-of-the-art methods in recommending services when only mashup requirements are available.

Keeping up with the Joneses, in an Information Technology (IT) sense, is not a feel good activity, it's a necessity to remain competitive. Building and maintaining a relevant, reliable, and scalable IT service infrastructures, without crushing the bottom line, is a necessary undertaking to avoid obsolescence in the marketplace. This is particularly true for very large scale IT Service and "Cloud" providers. At the very top of many CIO's wish list is to obtain, or create, an effective and efficient IT Process Automation (ITPA) framework. Use of ITPA or Run Book automation is a requirement to efficiently manage increasingly massive pools of systems and services under any particular IT Service Provider's management domain. A successful process workflow, run book, automation, and orchestration framework implementation requires a high degree of flexibility and scalability to be successful. It also requires an intuitive command and control structure to manage today's massive scale deployments and their increasingly demanding customers and service level agreements. This paper explores a new applications of a "publish-subscribe" messaging paradigm and how it can be leveraged to construct a core ITPA framework. This ITPA framework will scale to match the various needs of very large IT service infrastructures. The overarching intent of the paper is to discuss this ITPA framework, at a level of detail sufficient enough to provide a well-trained IT practitioner the ability to construct it themselves within their organization. This paper is however abstract enough to give the practitioner a high degree of choice with regards to the specific technologies and implementation details that must ultimately be tailored to their organization's specific needs and requirements.

Streszczenie:
Work process knowledge (WPK) is a concept for systems-level knowledge of the workplace and has been shown to be most important in organisations requiring multi-functional working. Most of the previous body of knowledge on WPK has focussed mainly on manufacturing industries; there has been less investigation of WPK in the service sector and none in the visitor attraction (VA) industry, an important employer in Scotland. The VA industry is extremely dynamic and many businesses are rapidly moving towards multi-functional team working, driven by an urgent need to develop quality, customer-focussed strategies to survive in an over-supplied and very competitive market. This study identifies the nature of WPK in Scottish VAs, what relationship WPK has to customer service, how WPK in this service sector differs from selected published studies in manufacturing and other service sector contexts and what factors affect the development of WPK in VAs. Following recruitment of a number of VAs using an online questionnaire and subsequent site visits, six sites were selected for case study, on the basis that they demonstrated most evidence of multi-functional working and staff with developed WPK. The research design was comparative case studies of the work processes and knowledge within these six VAs, based on a social constructivist framework, using the methods of key informant interviews and shadowing. Although these six sites represent a cross-spread of attractions in terms of types, location and size, they nonetheless show strong similarities in their basic business structure. The data show that WPK is an essential element of workers’ roles and a vital requirement in providing good customer service. Although VA managers do not use the term ‘work process knowledge’, they nonetheless recognise the importance of having staff with a wider view of their business and are actively encouraging its rapid development. Multi-functionality and job rotation are main ways of developing WPK but sites also use key workers with job roles that help develop high levels of WPK, who are then used as a staff resource. The main factor contributing to the development of WPK is communication, especially of systems-level information. Cultural information-sharing is an essential pre-condition for the development of WPK in this context. Other determining factors are flexibility, employee biographies, seasonality issues, how weddings and functions are handled on-site and the size and complexity of the site. WPK is the foundation on which good customer service is based and elements of it deliver customer service. It is the closely integrated nature of the employee-customer relationship that has such a profound effect on WPK development in this service sector industry and is essentially what differentiates it from previously published studies. The identification of the customer as a hitherto unrecognised key driver of WPK is the most important contribution to knowledge made by this work.

To cope with the rapid growth of mobile broadband traffic, various radio access technologies (e.g., HSPA, LTE, WiFi, and WiMAX) are being integrated and jointly managed. Radio Access Technology (RAT) selection, devoted to decide to what RAT mobiles should connect, is a key functionality to improve network performance and user experience. When intelligence is pushed to the network edge, mobiles make autonomous decisions regarding selection of their most appropriate RAT. They aim to selfishly maximize their utility. However, because mobiles have no information on network load conditions, their decisions may lead to performance inefficiency. Moreover, delegating decisions to the network optimizes overall performance, but at the cost of increased network complexity, signaling, and processing load. In this thesis, instead of favoring either of these decision-making approaches, we propose a hybrid decision framework: the network provides information for the mobiles to make robust RAT selections. More precisely, mobile users select their RAT depending on their individual needs and preferences, as well as on the monetary cost and QoS parameters signaled by the network. By appropriately tuning network information, user decisions are globally expected to meet operator objectives, avoiding undesirable network states. We first introduce our hybrid decision framework. Decision makings, on the network and user sides, are investigated. To maximize user experience, we present a satisfaction-based Multi-Criteria Decision-Making (MCDM) method. In addition to their radio conditions, mobile users consider the cost and QoS parameters, signaled by the network, to evaluate serving RATs. In comparison with existing MCDM solutions, our algorithm meets user needs (e.g., traffic class, throughput demand, cost tolerance), avoiding inadequate decisions. A particular attention is then addressed to the network to make sure it broadcasts suitable decisional information, so as to better exploit its radio resources while mobiles maximize their own utility. We present two heuristic methods to dynamically derive what to signal to mobiles. While QoS parameters are modulated as a function of the load conditions, radio resources are shown to be efficiently exploited. Moreover, we focus on optimizing network information. Deriving QoS parameters is formulated as a semi-Markov decision process, and optimal policies are computed using the Policy Iteration algorithm. Also, and since network parameters may not be easily obtained, a reinforcement learning approach is introduced to derive what to signal to mobiles. The performances of optimal, learning-based, and heuristic policies are analyzed. When thresholds are pertinently set, our heuristic method provides performance very close to the optimal solution. Moreover, although lower performances are observed, our learning-based algorithm has the crucial advantage of requiring no prior parameterization

Streszczenie:
Market globalization and mass customization requirements are forcing companies towards automation of their product development processes. Many task-specific software solutions provide localized automation. Coordinating these local solutions to automate higher-level processes requires significant software maintenance costs due to the incompatibility of the software tools and the dynamic nature of the product development environment. Current automation methods do not provide the required level of flexibility to operate in this dynamic environment. An autonomic product development process automation strategy is proposed in order to provide a flexible, standardized approach to product development process automation and to significantly reduce the software maintenance costs associated with traditional automation methods. Key elements of the strategy include a formal approach to decompose product development processes into services, a method to describe functional and quality attributes of services, a process modeling algorithm to configure processes composed of services, a method to evaluate process utility based on quality metrics and user preferences, and an implementation that allows a user to instantiate the optimal process. Because the framework allows a user to rapidly reconfigure and select optimal processes as new services are introduced or as requirements change, the framework should reduce burdensome software maintenance costs associated with traditional automation methods and provide a more flexible approach.

Streszczenie:
There is still very little known about network dynamics (Bell et al., 2006), especially when focusing on interorganisational networks (Provan et al., 2007). There is also limited empirical evidence on leadership within these complex network contexts (Davenport, 2005; Osborn et al., 2002). This thesis addresses these limitations by developing a theoretical framework for process leadership in the complex, often unpredictable and turbulent context of the interorganisational networked ecosystem. Understanding the complexity of networks and leadership is crucial to advancing network research, which this study aims to accomplish. Although previous studies indicate leader characteristics and behaviours (Huxham & Vangen, 2000), less evidence on the processes and dynamics of leadership within networks exists. Few studies have longitudinally examined the multiple boundaries and multi-level interactions within a complex interorganisational network, as the unit of analysis, as this thesis achieves. Moreover, little research has been conducted to understand network leadership processes, which represents a major gap in the network theory and complexity leadership literatures. In order to address these gaps as well as the gap between the two literatures, this thesis presents a comprehensive, longitudinal case investigation of network process leadership (NPL) within an interorganisational network embedded in the British National Health Service (NHS). By analysing processual dynamics, this thesis’s contribution is the foundation of a preliminary NPL framework. Based on analysing a public sector healthcare network over time, the findings emphasise four dominant thematic constructs surrounding NPL that emerged as highly significant: leveraging strategic system stressors and turbulence; adopting focal and non-focal roles; maximising social proximity; and the complementary, reciprocal formal and informal coproduction of leadership. These constructs provide the empirical and analytical grounds to help explain the critical leadership processes that drive a complex, interorganisational public sector network. Significantly, social capital dimensions underlie these interrelated higher order themes; thereby affecting wider inter-organisational network processes. As a primary contribution of this thesis, I argue that social capital is the critical concept linking network and complexity leadership theories, in order to provide a better understanding of NPL. The findings suggest network leadership calls for NPL and its relational, collective, facilitative approach involving social capital among multiple participants in a complex interorganisational network context. This is highly differentiated from studying unidirectional effects of a hierarchical, central leader within a single organisation. Theoretically, I argue the importance of social capital in the complex nature of leadership processes within interorganisational networked contexts. The research contributes to an understanding of how networks and social capital can be adapted or created by formal and informal leaders within networks to reflect changing processes to shape practices and network-wide development over time. Finally, I offer several operational mechanisms policymakers and network leaders could pragmatically employ to manage, lead, and facilitate interorganisational network processes. Overall, the significance of this study involves: filling gaps in the literature, offering a longitudinal case study on an interorganisational network over time, providing a foundation for theoretical development on leading in networks, illuminating insights into professional leadership within networks, and identifying policy and practical implications for leaders and managers.

Coastal and marine ecosystems are some of the most heavily exploited with increasing degradation. This alarming situation appeals for urgent and effective actions. The optimal balance between use and conservation of ecosystems theoretically requires all costs and benefits to be considered in decision-making, including intangible costs and benefits such as non-market use and non-use values. The broad aim of this PhD is to examine how these economic values associated with coastal and marine ecosystem services can be measured, and how the economic valuation exercise may be considered and influence management decision- making. The first analytical part of the thesis focuses on assessing non-market use and non-use values, through econometric methods. The characterization and estimation of non-use values are complex and controversial, especially when the valuation exercise is focusing on individuals who are users of the ecosystem services being considered. An original approach based on a stated preference method, namely choice experiments, is developed then empirically applied in quantifying non-market values for marine and coastal ecosystems in two areas in New Caledonia. It allows the estimation of non-use values for populations of users in an implicit way. An in-depth analysis of the individuals’ choice heuristics during the valuation exercise is also conducted, with a focus on payment non-attendance. This issue is dealt with by comparing multiple modelling approaches in terms of: (1) inferred attendance, in relation to stated attendance; (2) attendance distribution according to several socio-economic variables; and (3) welfare estimates. After noting that the potential influence of economic valuation in decision making is unclear and largely unexplored in the literature, the second major component of this PhD aims to examine if, how and to what extent the economic valuation of ecosystem services, including measures of non-market values, influence decision-making regarding coastal and marine ecosystems management in Australia. Based on two nation-wide surveys, the perceived usefulness of the economic valuation of ecosystem services by the general public and decision-makers is studied, and the reasons why decision-makers may or may not fully consider economic values are elicited. Using a multi-criteria analysis, a part of the surveys also aims at examining the relative importance of different evaluation criteria (ecological, social and economic) when assessing the consequences of a hypothetical coastal development project on commercial activities, recreational activities and marine biodiversity

Streszczenie:
Today’s legal practitioners who deal with cross-border disputes in civil and commercial matters work in an increasingly complex transnational legal environment. This book provides up-to-date background, explanations, and practical guidance on how to deal with the most important challenges and recent developments in the field, including choice of forum, choice of law, service of process, proof of foreign law, taking of evidence, and enforcement of judgments. A major focus is on the mechanisms for international judicial assistance, in particular those provided by regional and international arrangements such as the Hague Conventions on service, evidence, Apostilles, choice-of-court agreements and the enforcement of judgments, as well as the regional arrangements within the OAS and the EU. The book builds on Bruno Ristau’s classic multi-volume work International Judicial Assistance, updating its discussions of service of process and the taking of evidence, supplementing comparative background material, and adding several chapters to cover a more complete span of litigation topics and provide the practical guidance today’s practitioners need to navigate the field of international civil litigation.

Authority hierarchies are ubiquitous, yet we know little about how they arise. I outline a process model of hierarchical growth through sequential delegation. I also consider the consequences of the growth of layers in an authority hierarchy. Control and information losses in multi-layered authority hierarchies may act as a limit on organizational size. However, they may also serve as a valuable source of exploration by the organization as a whole, aiding effective organizational adaptation. I also discuss re-organizations and how they re-shape existing hierarchies. I conclude with some thoughts on the unpopularity of authority hierarchies despite their obvious success as a form of organizing.

By observing the authorial intentions on the part of the novelist and the adapted film’s producer, screenwriter, director, and cast, Chapter 11 examines the intratextual process at work in the transformation of Philip Roth’s novella The Dying Animal to the big screen as Elegy. The notion of serial authorship can capture the creative interaction of intentions characteristic of the multi-source nature of film adaptation, whose products serve two texts: the source literary work and the screenplay derived from it. The essay considers the hints of Roth’s personal views and autobiography implied through his narrator, David Kepesh, and this character’s relationships with women, as well as through the implied author’s own position as a writer—a self-conscious status the film does not engage.

Streszczenie:
The book is devoted to the research and development of methods for combining computational structures for reconfigurable signature-based information protection tools for computer systems and networks in order to increase their efficiency. Network security tools based, among others, on such AI-based approaches as deep neural networking, despite the great progress shown in recent years, still suffer from nonzero recognition error probability. Even a low probability of such an error in a critical infrastructure can be disastrous. Therefore, signature-based recognition methods with their theoretically exact matching feature are still relevant when creating information security systems such as network intrusion detection systems, antivirus, anti-spam, and wormcontainment systems. The real time multi-pattern string matching task has been a major performance bottleneck in such systems. To speed up the recognition process, developers use a reconfigurable hardware platform based on FPGA devices. Such platform provides almost software flexibility and near-ASIC performance. The most important component of a signature-based information security system in terms of efficiency is the recognition module, in which the multipattern matching task is directly solved. It must not only check each byte of input data at speeds of tens and hundreds of gigabits/sec against hundreds of thousand or even millions patterns of signature database, but also change its structure every time a new signature appears or the operating conditions of the protected system change. As a result of the analysis of numerous examples of the development of reconfigurable information security systems, three most promising approaches to the construction of hardware circuits of recognition modules were identified, namely, content-addressable memory based on digital comparators, Bloom filter and Aho–Corasick finite automata. A method for fast quantification of components of recognition module and the entire system was proposed. The method makes it possible to exclude resource-intensive procedures for synthesizing digital circuits on FPGAs when building complex reconfigurable information security systems and their components. To improve the efficiency of the systems under study, structural-level combinational methods are proposed, which allow combining into single recognition device several matching schemes built on different approaches and their modifications, in such a way that their advantages are enhanced and disadvantages are eliminated. In order to achieve the maximum efficiency of combining methods, optimization methods are used. The methods of: parallel combining, sequential cascading and vertical junction have been formulated and investigated. The principle of multi-level combining of combining methods is also considered and researched. Algorithms for the implementation of the proposed combining methods have been developed. Software has been created that allows to conduct experiments with the developed methods and tools. Quantitative estimates are obtained for increasing the efficiency of constructing recognition modules as a result of using combination methods. The issue of optimization of reconfigurable devices presented in hardware description languages is considered. A modification of the method of affine transformations, which allows parallelizing such cycles that cannot be optimized by other methods, was presented. In order to facilitate the practical application of the developed methods and tools, a web service using high-performance computer technologies of grid and cloud computing was considered. The proposed methods to increase efficiency of matching procedure can also be used to solve important problems in other fields of science as data mining, analysis of DNA molecules, etc. Keywords: information security, signature, multi-pattern matching, FPGA, structural combining, efficiency, optimization, hardware description language.

Streszczenie:
The rise of globalisation has made it necessary for breakthroughs in scientific and technological fields in the direction of their usability, utilising efficient management practices and ethical methods. This, in turn, has powerfully stimulated the opening of new avenues of study to meet the developing patterns across all industries and service sectors over time. The progress and development that have resulted from the contributions of research done in the past have been only temporary. However, it was unable to fully measure the methodical sequences in terms of progress throughout to fulfil humanity's general needs in terms of establishing sustenance and stability. This was a limitation of the technology. This may be due to a lack of investigations being integrated across different fields and their integrity being maintained towards increasing overall societal welfare. In addition, the problem persists because of a concentration on a single discipline, which means that the integration viewpoint towards multiple streams, their research fields, and their contributions is not entirely integrated. The point of carrying out any study is to convey knowledge, and this process is fundamentally intertwined with various applications to attain socio-economic development in communities. In addition, the present state of the world is in a constant state of flux, which calls for well-balanced expansion and dissemination in every facet of adequate means of subsistence. As a result, maintaining one's lifestyle will become more difficult in the years to come. This forces the sharing of information via the gathering of research that spans inter-disciplines and multi-disciplines to advance socio-economic growth as a whole. Keeping these considerations in mind, the international conference's purpose is to significantly impact the paradigms governing the most cutting-edge research in engineering and technology. In order to assist the rearing of total sustenance and bring about a remarkable development capable of meeting the difficulties of the future, the conference seeks to have knowledge integration via an awareness of the many studies. The Sri Venkateshwaraa College of Technology conceived of and organised the international conference, which took place on March 26 and 27, 2022, and was aimed at evaluating and collecting the engineering and technological contributions made across the country the world in preparation for the dissemination of knowledge. Streszczenie:
Field crews recently collected more than 10 years of classification and mapping data in support of the North Coast and Cascades Inventory and Monitoring Network (NCCN) vegetation maps of Mount Rainier (MORA), Olympic (OLYM), and North Cascades (NOCA) National Parks. Synthesis and analysis of these 6000+ plots by Washington Natural Heritage Program (WNHP) and Institute for Natural Resources (INR) staff built on the foundation provided by the earlier classification work of Crawford et al. (2009). These analyses provided support for most of the provisional plant associations in Crawford et al. (2009), while also revealing previously undescribed vegetation types that were not represented in the United States National Vegetation Classification (USNVC). Both provisional and undescribed types have since been submitted to the USNVC by WNHP staff through a peer-reviewed process. NCCN plots were combined with statewide forest and wetland plot data from the US Forest Service (USFS) and other sources to create a comprehensive data set for Washington. Analyses incorporated Cluster Analysis, Nonmetric Multidimensional Scaling (NMS), Multi-Response Permutation Procedure (MRPP), and Indicator Species Analysis (ISA) to identify, vet, and describe USNVC group, alliance, and association distinctions. The resulting revised classification contains 321 plant associations in 99 alliances. A total of 54 upland associations were moved through the peer review process and are now part of the USNVC. Of those, 45 were provisional or preliminary types from Crawford et al. (2009), with 9 additional new associations that were originally identified by INR. WNHP also revised the concepts of 34 associations, wrote descriptions for 2 existing associations, eliminated/archived 2 associations, and created 4 new upland alliances. Finally, WNHP created 27 new wetland alliances and revised or clarified an additional 21 as part of this project (not all of those occur in the parks). This report and accompanying vegetation descriptions, keys and synoptic and environmental tables (all products available from the NPS Data Store project reference: https://irma.nps.gov/DataStore/Reference/Profile/2279907) present the fruit of these combined efforts: a comprehensive, up-to-date vegetation classification for the three major national parks of Washington State.

Streszczenie:
Vegetation inventory and mapping is a process to document the composition, distribution and abundance of vegetation types across the landscape. The National Park Service’s (NPS) Inventory and Monitoring (I&M) program has determined vegetation inventory and mapping to be an important resource for parks; it is one of 12 baseline inventories of natural resources to be completed for all 270 national parks within the NPS I&M program. The Mojave Desert Network Inventory & Monitoring (MOJN I&M) began its process of vegetation inventory in 2009 for four park units as follows: Lake Mead National Recreation Area (LAKE), Mojave National Preserve (MOJA), Castle Mountains National Monument (CAMO), and Death Valley National Park (DEVA). Mapping is a multi-step and multi-year process involving skills and interactions of several parties, including NPS, with a field ecology team, a classification team, and a mapping team. This process allows for compiling existing vegetation data, collecting new data to fill in gaps, and analyzing the data to develop a classification that then informs the mapping. The final products of this process include a vegetation classification, ecological descriptions and field keys of the vegetation types, and geospatial vegetation maps based on the classification. In this report, we present the narrative and results of the sampling and classification effort. In three other associated reports (Evens et al. 2020a, 2020b, 2020c) are the ecological descriptions and field keys. The resulting products of the vegetation mapping efforts are, or will be, presented in separate reports: mapping at LAKE was completed in 2016, mapping at MOJA and CAMO will be completed in 2020, and mapping at DEVA will occur in 2021. The California Native Plant Society (CNPS) and NatureServe, the classification team, have completed the vegetation classification for these four park units, with field keys and descriptions of the vegetation types developed at the alliance level per the U.S. National Vegetation Classification (USNVC). We have compiled approximately 9,000 existing and new vegetation data records into digital databases in Microsoft Access. The resulting classification and descriptions include approximately 105 alliances and landform types, and over 240 associations. CNPS also has assisted the mapping teams during map reconnaissance visits, follow-up on interpreting vegetation patterns, and general support for the geospatial vegetation maps being produced. A variety of alliances and associations occur in the four park units. Per park, the classification represents approximately 50 alliances at LAKE, 65 at MOJA and CAMO, and 85 at DEVA. Several riparian alliances or associations that are somewhat rare (ranked globally as G3) include shrublands of Pluchea sericea, meadow associations with Distichlis spicata and Juncus cooperi, and woodland associations of Salix laevigata and Prosopis pubescens along playas, streams, and springs. Other rare to somewhat rare types (G2 to G3) include shrubland stands with Eriogonum heermannii, Buddleja utahensis, Mortonia utahensis, and Salvia funerea on rocky calcareous slopes that occur sporadically in LAKE to MOJA and DEVA. Types that are globally rare (G1) include the associations of Swallenia alexandrae on sand dunes and Hecastocleis shockleyi on rocky calcareous slopes in DEVA. Two USNVC vegetation groups hold the highest number of alliances: 1) Warm Semi-Desert Shrub & Herb Dry Wash & Colluvial Slope Group (G541) has nine alliances, and 2) Mojave Mid-Elevation Mixed Desert Scrub Group (G296) has thirteen alliances. These two groups contribute significantly to the diversity of vegetation along alluvial washes and mid-elevation transition zones.
