Pełny tekst źródłaIl riscaldamento a microonde è un processo largamente impiegato nei settori industriale, medico e domestico. Il vantaggio legato all'utilizzo di questa tecnologia consiste nell'elevata velocità del processo di riscaldamento, fattore di rilevante importanza al fine di soddisfare le esigenze del mercato. Le sorgenti di calore vengono infatti localizzate direttamente nel carico oggetto di riscaldamento, riducendo i tempi di processo. Tuttavia, a causa delle frequenze in gioco e talvolta dei costi legati ai dispositivi coinvolti in tali processi, generalmente la qualità (uniformità) del riscaldamento viene penalizzata. Il progresso nel settore delle tecnologie dei semiconduttori, assieme alle richieste di qualità ed efficienza sempre più stringenti da parte dei consumatori, sembrano essere i punti chiave per l'innovazione tecnologica in questo settore. L'impiego di metodologie di simulazione multifisiche al calcolatore, accoppiate a tecniche di ottimizzazione sempre più performanti, permette un'accurata progettazione del processo di riscaldamento e dei relativi dispositivi. Il presente lavoro si pone l'obiettivo di sviluppare modelli numerici multifisici nel settore dei riscaldamenti a microonde per uso domestico (forni a microonde) e medicale (trattamenti di ipertermia). Le validazioni sperimentali sviluppate confermano l'affidabilità delle soluzioni e dei metodi proposti.

Numerical modeling provides an answer to industrial needs to master these defects. One of the most critical and essential issues is the concurrent computation of fluid flow in the bulk liquid and stress-strain evolution in the already solidified regions. For this specific purpose, a partitioned solution algorithm is developed to model both ingot casting and continuous casting processes. Liquid flow induced by natural convection or filling step, solidification shrinkage and thermally induced deformation of the solid phase. On the basis of the resulting liquid and solid velocity fields, the transport of chemical species (macrosegregation) is achieved

Pełny tekst źródłaHadrontherapy is taking an increasingly important role in radiotherapy thanks to the ballistic properties of ions and, for those heavier than protons, an enhancement in the relative biological effectiveness in the tumour region. These features allow for a higher tumour conformality possible and gives the opportunity to tackle the problem of radioresistant tumours. However, they may lead to a great sensitivity of ion range to treatment uncertainties, namely to morphological changes along their path. In view of this, the detection of secondary radiations emitted after nuclear interactions between the incoming ions and the patient have been long proposed as ion range probes and, in this regard, positron emitters and prompt gammas have been the matter of intensive research. The European training network ENTERVISION, supported by the ENLIGHT community, was created in the end of 2009 in order to develop such imaging techniques and more generally to address treatment uncertainties during hadrontherapy. The present work is one of the many resulting from this project, under the subject “Modelling and simulation of physics processes for in-beam imaging in hadrontherapy”. Despite the extensive range of the topic, the purpose was always to make a systematic study towards the clinical implementation of a prompt-gamma imaging device to be used for both proton and carbon ion treatments

Les modèles théoriques développés lors de ce travail représentent le triple continuum par un ensemble d'ondes coulombiennes décrivant les interactions entre les trois électrons de la voie de sortie et l'ion résiduel. Les effets d'échange entre les électrons ont aussi été inclus dans les modèles.
La confrontation des résultats expérimentaux et théoriques a permis de mettre en évidence la contribution relative de l'effet Auger et de la double ionisation directe sur la dépendance angulaire de la section efficace quintuplement différentielle, révélant en particulier une influence de l'effet Auger d'autant plus importante que l'énergie incidente est élevée.

Pełny tekst źródłaIn this prospective study, we propose a new thermo-chemo-mechanical coupled model for dissipative filled rubber. This work is based on experimental observations and results from the literature. In this context, we have developed three phenomenological constitutive laws within a generic thermodynamical framework. The models enters the category of the thermodynamics of irreversible processes. Intermediate states are taken into account in the model which is build within the generalized standard materials framework. The degree of cure is introduced as an internal variable. The evolution of this variable takes into account the thermal influence and the mechanical influence via the hydrostatic pressure. This is one of the features making this model original. A finite strains approach is considered. A finite element model is applied to the global problem. A monolithic solution scheme is built based on an implicit Euler scheme associated to a of Newton-Raphson linearization technique. This scheme takes into account the weak compressibility of the material condition through, first, a judicious choice of weak relations between unknowns, and second, an adequate choice of approximations for the unknowns of problem to enforce the stability of the numerical scheme. An object-oriented model for the constitutive equations of the thermo-chemo-mechanical model is proposed and is implemented in Java into the FEMJava code. Some simulations illustrate the high potential of these models in qualitatively reproducing these experimental observations

Pełny tekst źródłaThe thesis is in the field of complex systems, applied to an economic system. In this thesis, an agent-based model has been proposed to model the production cycle. It comprises firms, workers, and a bank, and respects stock-flow consistency. Its central assumption is that firms plan their production based on an expected profit margin. A simple scenario of the model, where the expected profit margin is the same for all firms, has been analyzed in the context of simple stochastic growth models. Results are a firms' size distribution close to a power law, and tent-shaped growth rate distribution, and a growth rate variance scaling with firm size. These results are close to empirically found stylized facts. In a more comprehensive version, the model contains additional features: heterogeneous profits margins, as well as interest payments and the possibility of bankruptcy. This relates the model to agent-based macroeconomic models. The extensions are described theoretically theoretically with replicator dynamics. New results are the age distribution of active firms, their profit rate distribution, debt distribution, bankruptcy statistics, as well as typical life cycles of firms, which are all qualitatively in agreement with studies of firms databases of various countries.The proposed model yields promising results by respecting the principle that jointly found results may be generated by the same process, or by several ones which are compatible

Pełny tekst źródłaInteractive physical simulation is a key component of realistic virtual environments. However, the amount of computations as well as the code complexity grow quickly with the variety, number and size of the simulated objects. During this thesis we studied the different ways to improve interactivity, with the constraint of minimizing the impact in the simulation code. We started by developing a new approach to collision detection between deformable bodies that allows deep intersections. Experiments show that this approach is fast and more robust than traditional proximity-based collisions, allowing physical simulations to employ large time steps. To take profit of multi-core machines, we propose a parallelization approach that relies on a task parallelism. Prior to running a simulation step, we extract a task dependency graph that is partitioned to define the task distribution between processors. This approach has a low impact on physics algorithms as parallelism is mainly extracted from the coordination code. Finally we extended our works multi-CPU and multi-GPU architectures. Using these resources efficiently in a seamless way is a challenging issue. We propose a parallelization scheme for dynamically balancing work load between multiple CPUs and GPUs. We rely on a two level scheduling associating a traditional task graph partitioning and a work stealing guided by processor affinity and heterogeneity. These criteria are intended to limit inefficient task migrations between GPUs, the cost of memory transfers being high, and to favor mapping small tasks on CPUs and large ones on GPUs to take advantage of heterogeneity
