Streszczenie:
The thinking behind the choice of a data recording method that will be used to gather information on the frequency responses of motorcycles is discussed. The design and development of a microcomputer based data acquisition system (including transducers and signal conditioning circuitry) is described, along with the test and data processing strategies to be used. A new theoretical model is developed which includes a frame flexibility that allows the rear wheel of the motorcycle to yaw and camber about an inclined axis. The effects of changes in axis position and stiffness are investigated, and stability results are presented for the straight-running condition. The measurement of this stiffness (and that relating to a flexibility involving the front frame) for a large motorcycle, by both static and dynamic methods, is described. The nature of the flexibility involving the front wheel assembly is examined, and conclusions are drawn regarding the validity of theoretical models and the use of appropriate stiffness measurement methods. Theoretical frequency responses of a motorcycle to steering torque inputs are calculated for the straight-running condition. An attempt is made to interpret the responses by studying the effects on them of various motorcycle parameter alterations, and comparing these with the changes in handling performance as predicted by riders' experiences with real machines. The common notion that there exists a trade-off between stability and responsiveness is examined. Two new theoretical models, each representing a motorcycle towing a type of trailer, are developed and the stability results are presented. The effects of trailer parameter variations are described and recommendations relating to the design and use of the combinations are made. A description is given of the design and development of a microcomputer controlled, modal motion simulator, which employs stepper motors driving a scale model motorcycle. The simulation strategy and software are discussed and improvements are suggested.

The motorcycle industry is well established in South Africa, but has not nearly reached its full potential. This study investigates how this situation can be improved by enhancing the promotions of motorcycles in the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan Municipality (NMMM) area under investigation. Motorcycle businesses in this area currently compete with a disadvantage in the transportation market. Motor vehicles are assembled in this area whereas motorcycles are not, and this creates various work opportunities and brand loyalty for the motor industry. The Government also offers import rebates to motor vehicle exports. The cost, prejudicial attitudes and road safety of motorcycles contribute toward the difficulties faced by the motorcycle industry, which prevent the growth of this market. This market usually requires potential customers to have a passion for motorcycles to turn them into actual customers. To overcome these difficulties an investigation was conducted to determine which promotional activities the motorcycle businesses in the NMMM area employ. This study identifies the motorcycle businesses’ promotional shortcomings and makes suggestions for improvement. Promotional activities are vital since motorcycles are at a disadvantage when compared to motor vehicles in the NMMM area. One of the best ways the motorcycle businesses can successfully compete in the transportation market is to make use of promotions to make potential customers aware and enhance their support of the motorcycle businesses. For this reason the promotional variables (advertising, direct marketing, personal selling, sales promotions and public relations) should be exploited to its fullest to enhance potential customers’ support of motorcycles. This process can also create brand loyalty and equity, which will retain customers over the long term. Communication with a market is essential to achieve this and to inform and remind potential customers about the products available.

Streszczenie:
This thesis solves the stabilizing control of an autonomous motorcycle. The control of an autonomous motorcycle is a challenging and interesting problem in the field because the plant is under-actuated, unstable and nonlinear. Two major problems that have not been considered in the literature are explicitly solved in our work: (i) the robust control problem of the plant subject to uncertainty and exogenous disturbance; (ii) the non-local stabilization of the nonlinear plant. To achieve the first goal, we propose a robust H_infty controller based on the linearized system, which provides a significant improvement in dealing model uncertainty and disturbance attenuation in comparison with those controllers given by classical linear design tools. To achieve the second goal, we propose a nonlinear controller based on the combination of a nonlinear forwarding method with several other methods for the nonlinear plant through identifying an appropriate upper triangular s tructure of the nonlinear system. This yields a stability region, the whole upper space above the level ground, such that the trajectory starting from any position in the upper hemi-sphere with arbitrary initial velocities converges to the upright position. Both results are novel and first results of their kinds in control of an autonomous motorcycle. Computer simulations verify the effectiveness of the proposed controllers.

Over the past few years, motorcycle fatalities have increased at an alarming rate in the United States. Motorcycle safety issues in Kansas are no different from the national scenario. Accordingly, this study attempted to investigate motorcycle crashes in Kansas to identify critical characteristics and to evaluate the effect of those on motorcycle crash injury outcomes. State-level motorcycle rider fatality rates were investigated while considering various factors including helmet laws, using generalized least squares regression modeling. A detailed characteristic analysis was carried out for motorcycle crashes, using Kansas crash data. Comparisons were made between several aspects of motorcycle crashes and other vehicle crashes. Analysis using Logistic regression was performed on Kansas motorcycle crash data to identify factor affecting fatal motorcycle crashes. In addition, a survey was conducted focusing on identifying motorcycle rider behaviors, helmet usage patterns, perception towards helmet laws in Kansas, potential problems, crash contributory factors, and difficulty levels of different motorcycle maneuvers to execute. Ordered probit modeling was used to identity factors contributing to increased severity of Kansas motorcycle riders involved in crashes. Results from state-level modeling showed statistically significant relationships between motorcycle fatality rates in a given state as well as several other factors. These factors included weather-related conditions, helmet laws, per capita income, highway mileage of rural roads, population density, education, demographic distributions, and motorcycle registrations in the state. The study showed that states with mandatory helmet laws had 5.6% fewer motorcycle fatalities per 10,000 registrations and 7.85% fewer motorcycle fatalities per 100,000 populations. Characteristic analysis of motorcycle crashes in Kansas revealed that motorcycle maneuvers such as overtaking, motorcyclists being older than 40 years, using motorcycle helmets, using motorcycle helmets and eye protection simultaneously, daytime riding, crashes occurring on roadside shoulders, and influence of alcohol among the riders during crashes had higher risk of ending up as a fatal motorcycle crash in Kansas. Results from the survey conducted among motorcycle riders in Kansas revealed that 71% of respondents thought drivers of other vehicles were the single biggest threat to their own safety. Survey results also revealed that 64% of respondents opposed a mandatory law requiring motorcycle riders and passengers to wear helmets in Kansas. Result from the ordered probit modeling of motorcycle rider injury severity showed that overturned and fixed-object motorcycle crashes, helmet use, younger motorcycle riders, speeding, presence of alcohol among motorcycle riders, and good weather contributed to increased severity of injury of motorcycle riders involved in crashes in Kansas.

Streszczenie:
This study is an investigation into the use of computer aided handling and stability analysis for motorcycles. In particular it considers Triumph Motorcycles Ltd., delving into Triumph's background, their strategy and the likelihood of them using virtual techniques for stability and handling analysis. Additionally, this work reviews current knowledge of motorcycle dynamics analysis and builds on it. A novel way of studying the steering feel has been developed by analysing the response of the steer torque equation for the Sharp 1971 [1] and 1994 [2] models. The individual contributors to this equation are identified and the important ones are investigated further. One conclusion of this study is that in reduced cornering and camber conditions the steer angle of the motorcycle, for a given steering input torque, increases when compared to standard operating conditions. The steer angle also increases further as the speed increases. An update to a previous motorcycle model [3] has been made by revising the parameter set, so that it is more applicable to a modem sports motorcycle. The rider model and relaxation length description have also been improved upon. The results show that the new motorcycle has been made more manoeuvrable by the alterations to the parameters. An optimal preview steering control system for cars [4] has been taken, improved upon and used with the newly developed motorcycle model discussed above. The results from this novel work allow a designer to alter parameters and see how this affects the motorcycles steering demands, path following, etc. It was shown that an increase in the front wheel inertia makes the motorcycle feel like the steering is heavier, and an increase in the front wheel radius and wheelbase make the steering feel lighter. Future work into non-linear analysis is recommended and improved rider and tyre modelling is also desired.

Streszczenie:
More motorcyclists are fatally injured each year in guardrail crashes than passengers of any other vehicle, while only accounting for three percent of the vehicle fleet. Since motorcyclists account for a high percentage of these fatalities, the goal of zero deaths on the road cannot be achieved without addressing the safety of motorcyclists. The objective of this research was to determine the factors that lead to serious or fatal injury in motorcycle barrier crashes, given that a crash occurred.

The likelihood of serious or fatal injury in barrier crashes was significantly influenced by both barrier type and rider trajectory after striking the barrier. A national study of motorcyclist fatality risk using the Fatality Analysis Reporting System (FARS) and General Estimates System (GES) showed that crashes with guardrail than crashes were about 7 times more likely to be fatal than those with the ground, based on the most harmful event reported. An analysis of 1,000 riders in barrier crashes in three states showed that the odds of serious injury were 1.4 times greater in guardrail crashes than in concrete barrier crashes. These analyses did not take into account the trajectory of the rider after striking the barrier, since this was unknown. The police accident report for 350 barrier crashes in New Jersey was used to determine the rider trajectory in those crashes. Being ejected from the motorcycle after impacting the barrier significantly increased the odds of serious injury over crashes where the rider was not ejected.

While providing insight into factors influencing injury severity, these analyses do not provide an understanding of the nature of injuries incurred in these crashes. To further understand how injuries were caused in motorcycle-barrier crashes, we developed a methodology for determining injury mechanisms in motorcycle-barrier collisions. Using this methodology, we investigated 9 serious motorcycle-to-barrier crashes. In these crashes, as well as in an analysis of 106 barrier crashes in Maryland, the thorax and lower extremities most commonly suffered serious injury. Of particular concern are the posts and top of the rail, both of which can lead to lacerations and blunt trauma.

An innovative motorcycle helmet design concept was developed in order to fit an inter-helmet communications system to be used by the West Midlands police in the United Kingdom. The concept was to include: video camera, GPS and microphone system among other components specified by the target user. Three concepts were developed and evaluation methods were used to choose among them. The final concept was then further developed by conducting material and dimension analysis and choosing components and designing parts. Safety regulations, manufacturing methods and usability aspects were taking into consideration during the process. The developments led to an innovative helmet shape to store the components of communication system on the top and back of the helmet. The helmet shell should be of fiber reinforced plastic and for the protective padding EPS foam with different densities for different part of the padding is suggested. On top of the helmet a video camera would be placed in order to collect footage of suspect situations the policeman might encounter. Camera type, mounting of the camera and camera module design were investigated. Guidelines for making a prototype to be used when testing the helmet communications system were stated. Because of costs the concept and the prototype have essential differences.

This study uses life-history interviews with militarized men to describe a version of masculinity constructed in the local context of a non-profit motorcycle club. The study describes the details of one group’s specific gender nature, the result of which expands and challenges our understanding of the masculinity master narrative. The findings establish that both hegemonic and nonhegemonic attitudes, beliefs, and behaviors co-exist in the local dominant masculine norm, thereby disrupting traditional distinctions of masculinity as being either hegemonic or nonhegemonic. Key future research implications support the study of context as essential to the study of gender construction, challenge descriptions of masculinity as being either hegemonic or nonhegemonic, and posit the relevance of veteran peer groups in supporting post-military resocialization.

Streszczenie:
Divided into two parts, the thesis seeks to provide a detailed explanation for the emergence and historical development of the outlaw motorcycle subculture as well as the essential structural and Ideological focii which underpin the phenomenon in its contemporary form. Part I charts the progressive expansion from its initial appearance as a specifically distinct form of deviant subculture in Southern California in the latter part of the 1950s to what is today an extremely prolific international, intergenerational and largely interracial mass subculture. Focussing upon the different stages which have characterised the subculture's process of solidification, it examines the series of media-induced moral panics which have periodically elevated it to public prominence and makes intelligible the complex interrelationship between the various disparate contextual strands which have over time coalesced to form that broad strata of motorcycle-borne folk devil ubiquitously and invariably erroneously described as 'Hells Angels'. Part II cuts through the heavily myth-laden skin of the contemporary outlaw motorcycle subculture as it exists in its archetypical form throughout the world, exposing the no less rich layers of subcultural activity underneath. Commencing with an analysis of the genesis of and quasi-criminal in-group behaviour common to that highly-ritualised and tightly-knit subcultural formation, the one-percenter outlaw motorcycle club, it examines the symbolic order of meaning which gives substance to the lives of the membership, looks at the collective decision-making processes which ensure internal solidity, and charts the career pattern of a would-be club member from casual 'hangaround' to full blown 1%er. The remainder of Part II still further separates the myth from the reality by breaking down the very potent barriers of popular imagery which have hitherto so successfully rendered all previous sociological accounts of the outlaw motorcycle subculture absolutely meaningless. It looks at the spheres of politics, race, sex and crime and re-evaluates conventional wisdom on biker attitudes to and involvement in each.

To improve the handling and driving comfort of cars, only a few researches were done on active and semi-active suspension systems recently. However, the application of active or semi-active suspension systems to motorcycle is quite few. Hence, the topic of this research is on motorcycle The reasons are because of the simple structure and better performance than active suspension system. In this paper, a proportional throttling valve was developed and applied to build a semi-active suspension system on a 125cc scooter. Moreover, a hydraulic motorcycle suspension test bench was designed to verify the effect of semi-active suspension system. Due to the suspension of motorcycles is a nonliner, time-varing system. A fuzzy logic controller is proposed to control the semi-active suspension system. In addition, this report also shows the design of a manually operated three-step adjustable suspension system. The system can be adjusted according to different road conditions. The main advantages are its competitive price, simple design and better performance.

Due to the weight of heavy-duty motorcycle, research and develop of the auxiliary jack-up device may improve the safety of parking. The weight of the heavy-duty motorcycle is in direct proportion to the volume of exhaust gas. The motorcycle body weight, driver and personal equipment all together weight more than 200 kilograms. Because the sizes of Orientals are relatively small, parking on one side of the motorcycle many damage the shock absorbing system. Unsafe parking practice may also lifting mechanism. In this thesis, calculation of the oil pressure valve specification, simulation of motorcycle, and human factor engineering of the auxiliary equipment are taken into consideration during development of the prototype system. The results show the auxiliary equipment performs beautifully meeting the design specifications. It can park the motorcycle on uneven pathway with ease.

State of Research, Methods, Measurement Chain Verification, Results and Discussion, Conclusion
Motorcyclists are among the most vulnerable road users in road traffic. Often, the cause of accidents is a loss of control on rural roads which could be averted by making use of the physical potential in terms of larger lean angles. At the same time, in reality driven lean angles over a larger group of riders and a longer route are unknown which is mainly due to the special measuring technology required. The focus is therefore on the development of a low-cost measurement method for measuring the lean angles of motorcycles. Smartphones are usually characterized by integrated inertial sensors, which are suitable for the acquisition of motorcycle driving dynamics. Employing a smartphone app tailored to the requirements for collecting measurement data on the motorcycle, the data of the sensors are recorded. During the offline evaluation, the rotation angles between the smartphone and the motorcycle coordinate system are determined, the inertial measurement data are transformed and the roll angle is calculated. An essential part is the alignment of the developed measurement chain with a high-precision measurement system. This was carried out on different routes and thus the data quality was determined. As a feasibility study, a test person study with several participants was carried out, which confirmed the practical suitability of the measurement chain. Hence, the study outcomes are briefly shown and discussed. The successful validation on different routes, the practical suitability of the data acquisition and the accuracy of the measurement system encourage to roll out the smartphone app to a larger panel of test persons and thus to collect data on a larger driver collective.:Introduction, State of Research, Methods, Measurement Chain Verification, Results and Discussion, Conclusion

To get a motorcycle driver''s license, the steps generally includes a health checkup, a knowledge test, and a road test. The road test is to evaluate the drivers’ maneuver capability in a simulated yard but not on real road networks and it cannot be assessed whether the drivers obey traffic rules and have good driving behaviors after they got a license. Therefore, we propose a motorcycle driving behavior analysis system, which can evaluate driver behavior persistently and determine whether the driver has safe driver behaviors. To recognize different driving behaviors, the driving behavior analysis system includes an Arduino diagnosis scanner to sample ECU data including engine rpm, battery energy, throttle, and intake and so on. It is also equipped with a gyroscope and an accelerometer to capture motion data of a motorcycle. The Arduino diagnosis scanner sends data to a smart phone via Bluetooth and the Android App uploads the data to a server for further processing. Finally, the server aggregates data and per-forms RBM neural network to train classifiers for on-line driving behavior recognition and analysis. To validate our system, we collect data of different driving behaviors under different traffic conditions and conduct experiments to evaluate the classification performance. The experimental results show that the proposed system can effectively recognize different driving behaviors. The future works are to extend it for more complex driving behaviors and apply the system for driving assistant and monitoring.

DCP is composed of two major components: a fuel pump module and an injector. With a prescribed voltage waveform imposed on DCP, the inner solenoid valve is first activated to start the compression stage for expelling air bubble. After that, the valve is immediately closed to build up the high pressure inside DCP for forcing gasoline passing through the nozzle. In response to the shutdown of electrical power, DCP restores to its original rest state in the end of the ejection stage. The gasoline liquid jet with adequate inertia momentum would overcome the liquid surface tension and viscous force for accomplishing the droplet injection. The present study has successfully constructed the test and measurement platform to determine the baseline mass flowrate characteristics for a DCP device. To establish a useful database for the future development of the injection technology for motorcycles, this work is also extended to explore the variations of injection performance at different settings of environmental pressure, temperature, and voltage of battery. This Study sets up to control program by the LabVIEW, which can controls every experiment parameter control condition of DCP fuel injection, such as operative frequency of the fuel injection, the operative time of the fuel injection sprays, etc. It uses CCD to pick a fluent situation of the fuel injection that can observes the difference flows of key parameter of the voltage and vacuum pressure to DCP injection and traditional fuel injection.

In Taiwan, on average every 1.7 persons have a motorcycle. Motorcycles are in large quantity. The injury severity for the accidents involved with motorcycles is serious; approximately 90% of road accidents involve motorcycles. Motorcycle safety education is an important issue in Taiwan. The motorcycle safety problem for young people is serious particularly. This study developed a motorcycle riding simulation game system using a smartphone platform to investigate whether the game could assist younger players (i.e., learners) to acquire motorcycle safety cognition. The questionnaires and riding behaviors are used to measure players’ learning performances. The analysis results of the pretest questionnaire, posttest questionnaire, and riding behaviors recorded in the game system showed whether or not the participants had driving licenses that the level of participants’ motorcycle safety cognition before the learning experiment was insufficient. Participants did not know the meaning of certain traffic markings, signs and signals identifying the minor road at an intersection. The Right of way rules at intersections were another problem. After playing the game, the improvement in the participants’ understanding of the meaning of markings, signs and signals was very significant. However, improvement was limited in learning right of way rules at intersections not controlled by signals.

The study is undertaken to explore the parking behavior of motorcycle users by using the Stated Preference Method. A two- stage approach is used to follow the principles of experimental design of Stated Preference Method. We try to explore the attitude of motorcycle users and their parking demand characteristics, and find the range of related attribute values in the first stage in order to design the levels of specific attributes. Based on the information derived from the first stage, the normal distribution method was used to design the stated preference questionnaires. A face-to-face interview was conducted to collect enough data to establish the parking behavior model for motorcycle users. Some long term, medium term, and short term parking control strategies were also derived and tested in this study. The empirical results show the tests of significance and goodness of fit for multinomial logit model are pretty well. Adding the terms of sex and income will significantly increase the explanatory ability. According to the results of policy simulation, we find the motorcycle users tend to drive farther away or move to illegal-parking in response to high parking charge, and unlikely move to public transportation under single or loose restrained control strategy. Offering the space for motorcycle parking, implementing motorcycle parking charge, training traffic assistants for parking enforcement, and encouraging the private to open their parking spaces for the public are suggested for short term management. Augmenting parking control area and privatization of parking management are suggested for the medium term. In the long run, the roadside motorcycle parking should be prohibited everywhere.

The work described in this thesis is to develop a new evaluation method that helps designers to gain better understanding of consumer demand. It has been carried out by two stages. Theory of statistics and contemporary information were applied in the first stage of the work in order to establish a proper procedure to provide quantified trend prediction and find the important attributes & prediction of trend for traditional motorcycles . According to the eight attributes and the special ones from electric motorcycles, a set of evaluation criteria was obtained. From the relation of attributes performance and cost utility, the evaluation of the difference between the motorcycle system variants is implanted. The result indicate that, before the breakout of cell technology, there is little hope for electric motorcycles to survive in the free market competition. The cell switching scheme and extension of cell lifetime will remarkably enhance the competitiveness of electrical motorcycles.

For simple structure, we can easily calculate the moment of inertia of the structure by numerical method. If the structure is complex, such as the motorcycle frame, the results obtained from the numerical may not be accurate. On the other hand, modal testing can be applied for estimating the moment of inertia. In this investigation, the moment of inertia of a square steel boxis estimated from the measured six rigid body modesby modal testing. The comparision between the experimental and the numerical results shows good agreement. Applying the same experimental method, the moment of inertia of the motorcycle frame is obtained. At the same time, the modal testing by impluse excitation is applied to obtain the dynamic properties of motorcycles. Ployreference time domain technique is used to identify the structural dynamic properties. From the identified mode shapes, the weak points of the structures can be observed and the improvement can be made. Since the first natural frequency is close to the idal engine speed, the frame system should be modified to avoid the the resonance.

This research, basing on acoustic theory, deduces the governing equation to Helmholtz resonator, and the boundary element method was chosen to be a numerical tool. The numerical result shows a good agreement with theory, which validates the reliability of computer program and numerical method in present method. Therefore, the silence effect of the specific frequency can be estimated precisely by means of considering design parameters decided by the dimension of the resonator. In this paper, the silence effect on the overall system is investigated when the Helmholtz resonator is installed in the air-intake hose of a motorcycle air-filter or carburetor’s connecting piper as an auxiliary silence element where the porous sound-absorbing material has also take into account. The result shows that the lower part of transmission loss have improved as the resonator installs on an air-filter. On the other hand, this research also verifies that the range of silenced frequency widens and promotes the silence effect in system when the porous sound-absorbing material applies in the resonator.

In Taiwan, motorcycles are the most common means of transportation and account for 65% of all motor vehicles. Most serious or fatal motorcycle-related injur ies involve the head, so it is with great excitement that we inform youthat a motorcycle helmet use law was passed and enacted in the whole nation on June 1 , 1997. In order to evaluate the effect of the helmet law, we comparedthe hea d injury situtations in the same months before and after implementation of the helmet law. From June 1, 1996 to January 31, 1998 we collected 9,860 motorcy cle-related head injury cases from 7 major hospitals in Taiwan. Dataanalysis showed that after implementation of the law (June 1, 1996 to January31, 1997), the incidence of motorcycle-related head injury decreased by 17.4%when compar ed to the incidence before the law(June 1, 1997 to January 31,1998).Decreases in length of hospital stay and severity and better outcome were alsoseen. Aft er the helmet law, the incidence of conscious disturbance decreases by 15%, th e incidence of skull fracture and intracranial hematoma decreased by10-20% (p< 0.0001). After adjusting for sex and age, we found out that unhelmeted motorc yclists were 17.08 times more likely to die from motorcycle-related head injur ied and 7.08 times more likely to suffer from severe injuriesthan helmeted mot orcyclists. In addition, full helmets were found to be saferthan half-shell h elmets. Analysis of data provided by the National Healtht Insurance Bureau sh owed that after implementation of the helmet law, the costsof motorcycle-relat ed injury hospitalizations decreased by an average of US$ 3.93 million per mon th, and the number of fatalities in 1997 decreased by561 when compare to 1996. From these figures, it is evident that the helmet law effectively decreased the incidence and severity of motorcycle-related head injury and reduced relat ed medical costs.

With the development of world economy, the motorcycle industry has also developed especially in Asia. Because of the relation of climate, geographical environment and national income, Asia becomes the development center of motorcycle industry. Viet Nam has been one of the fast-growing developing countries in South-East Asia in recent years. Vietnams youth accounted for a large proportion of the total population, low wage standards, lack of industrial development and Vietnamese governments strong support for foreign investment have become the main reasons to attract foreign enterprises to invest and establish their factories in Vietnam. According to statistics, the total number of new registered and increased foreign direct investment in Viet Nam by October 2016 amounted to $17.6 billion, which amounted to 91.3% in the same period last year. According to the Vietnam national statistical report, Taiwans FDI to Vietnam in June 2016 amounted to $31.7 billion, with processing, manufacturing accounting for 90% of total investment and fourth in 116 countries investing in Vietnam. This paper will observe these phenomena as the research background and motivation, in order to study the marketing strategy of the motorcycle manufacturers in Vietnam for the purpose of research. Therefore, this study mainly discusses the marketing strategy, brand strategy, competitive strategy, marketing mix strategy and marketing performance of motorcycle manufacturers, taking Vietnam’s motorcycle industry as an example.

Streszczenie:
A study on the applicability of the Monte Carlo method in the analysis of the dynamical behavior of motorcycles subject to road excitation is presented. To this end, a time-domain numerical simulation of the response of a motorcycle modeled as a linear four-degree-of-freedom (4-DOF) system, and traveling at constant speed is carried out. To validate the accuracy of the solutions obtained, the linear 4-DOF model is also analyzed using the frequency domain approach. Although the Monte Carlo simulation can be computationally costly, it provides an excellent scheme of analyzing, as well, non-linear systems, in which case the frequency domain approach cannot be applied. In this context the applicability of auto-regressive (AR) and autoregressive-moving-average (ARMA) filters for efficient implementation of the Monte Carlo simulation is pointed out. Furthermore, a practical engineering approach is presented for improved road roughness power spectral density (PSD) representation, and statistical parameters of the excitation signals synthesized.

Streszczenie:
Off-road and racing motorcycles require a particular setup of the suspension to improve the comfort and the safety of the rider. Further, due to ground unevenness, off-road motorcycle suspensions usually experience extreme and erratic excursions in performing their function. In this regard, the adoption of nonlinear devices, such as progressive springs and hydro pneumatic shock absorbers, can help limiting both the acceleration experienced by the sprung mass and the excursions of the suspensions. For dynamic analysis purposes, this option involves the solution of the nonlinear differential equations that govern the motion of the motorcycle, which is excited by the stochastic road ground profile. In this study a 4 degrees-of-freedom (4-DOF) nonlinear motorcycle model is considered. The model involves suspension elements with asymmetric behaviour. Further, it is assumed that the motorcycle is exposed to loading of a stochastic nature as it moves with a specified speed over a road profile defined by a particular power spectrum. It is shown that a meaningful analysis of the motorcycle response can be conducted by using the technique of statistical linearization. The validity of the proposed approach is established by comparison with results from pertinent Monte Carlo studies. In this context the applicability of auto-regressive (AR) filters for efficient implementation of the Monte Carlo simulation is pointed out. The advantages of these methods for the synthesis of excitation signals from a given power spectrum, are shown by comparison with other methods. It is shown that the statistical linearization method allows the analysis of multi-degree-of-freedom (M-DOF) systems that present strong nonlinearities, exceeding other nonlinear analysis methods in both accuracy and applicability. It is expected that the proposed approaches, can be used for a variety of parameter/ride quality studies and as preliminary design tool by the motorcycle industry.

The motorcycle is the most popular vehicle in Taiwan, which had been parked in quantity around buildings. Those are particular fire style in Taiwan, the motorcycle fire caused by inappropriate use of fire or deliberate arson and it would expanding become to building fire. In order to learn the motorcycle fire behavior so as to reduce its damage, this study used 10MW Cone Calorimeter to survey the heat release rate of real motorcycle burning in free space. Also related equipments surveyed the flame height and temperature. Mean times, this study used a rectangular combustion contrivance, which dimensions were 1/4 scale of the real motorcycle, to model motorcycle burning behaviors. No matter whether is one, two or three motorcycles burning in free space, the result of experiments showed the relationship between heat release rate and time on fire-growing period, the fire model is t2, the average of the fire-growing coefficient is 0.00019MW/sec2. When the fire became high-peak period, the maximum heat release rate is 1.16MW, 2.51MW and 5.44MW for one, two and three motorcycles burning in order separately. The fire model is e-t while the fire got into decreasing period. The flame height or the temperature on flame center axis is positive related to the heat release rate in burning real motorcycle experiments. The horizontal flame temperature and the flame area are related to the temperature on flame center axis. When the horizontal distance is increasing, the horizontal flame temperature is decreasing speedily. But the flame area increases speedily the horizontal flame temperature decreases. The formulas came from analyzing of experiment results, could characterize and quantify the motorcycle burnings behavior, such as heat release rate, flame height, temperature on flame center axis, horizontal flame temperature and flame area.

The fuel oil motorcycles are the first pollution source causing deterioration of air quality in metropolitan area. This study developed a high efficiency full battery electric motorcycle to solve the noise and air pollution of gasoline motorcycles in metropolitan area. This electric motorcycle is a metropolitan vehicle aiming at high efficiency and long endurance, so it is designed in lightweight structure. The overall structure contains motor power, battery management, and motorcycle energy management subsystems. The dynamic system uses hub motor to drive the vehicle load directly, instead of reducing mechanism in order to increase efficiency and reduce loss. The battery management system has accurate measuring circuit to master the battery characteristics and to estimate the residual electric quantity. The entire motorcycle energy management system uses the self-made vehicle carried data acquisition card to read the data of the entire motorcycle, displaying the vehicle's mileage, speed per hour, residual electric quantity and light signals to warn the rider. Finally, this study completed a high efficiency and long endurance electric motorcycle, it is observed after extensive road test that the maximum speed of this electric motorcycle is about 40 km per hour, and the climbing slope is about 20°. The maximum endurance is 50 km after it is installed with rated 48V/25AH lithium iron phosphate battery.
