The increase in the number of motor vehicles in Indonesia has elevated the negative impact on the environment, both in terms of air pollution and global warming. According to the Ministry of Transportation (Kemhub), the number of motor vehicles in Indonesia reached 141.99 million units in 2021. The electrification of motor vehicles is one of the solutions to reduce emissions from the motor vehicle sector. This is supported by Presidential Regulation No. 55/2019 to stimulate the growth of the national battery-based electric vehicle (BEV) industry. This paper reviews battery-based electric vehicle (BEV) technology worldwide, especially four-wheeled vehicles with a high total population. The research was conducted through online surveys in 2023 using international data sources and the Association of Indonesian Automotive Industries (GAIKINDO), resulting in a database of 33 battery-based electric vehicles. From this database, it was found that the majority of electric cars purchased by the public are hatchback and sport utility vehicle (SUV) types. In terms of electric drive systems, the power capacity range of electric motors used by these vehicles is between 20 - 150 kW for hatchbacks and 100 - 406 kW for SUVs. The most commonly used electric motor type, constituting about 64%, is the Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (PMSM). About 70% of these vehicles use lithium-ion battery technology. The technical specifications of these popular electric cars are expected to assist stakeholders in quickly understanding the technical specifications of electric drive systems in battery-based electric vehicles, serving as a benchmark for designing electric cars suitable to meet domestic needs.

Streszczenie:
A split-axle parallel hybrid drive-train with in-wheel motors allows for existing combustion-engine-driven vehicles to be converted into a hybrid vehicle with minor mechanical modification, resulting in a retrofit-conversion hybrid electric vehicle (HEV). This is achieved by placing electric motors in the hub of the otherwise non-driven wheels. Due to the wheel hub’s size constraint, the allowable size and power of the electric in-wheel motor that can be installed is severely restricted to less than 10 kW per wheel, which raises the concern of lack of improved performance compared to the original vehicle. This work analyzes the influence of motor sizing and efficiency on acceleration performance, fuel consumption and emission levels of three different converted hybrid vehicles, through simulation. Results provide insight into sensitivity of different-sized vehicles with varying-size engines, to the size and efficiency of the retrofitted electric motor.

Vehicle driving safety is an important performance indicator for vehicles, and there is still much room for development in the active safety control of electric vehicles. Vehicles are susceptible to rollover when making sharp turns or overtaking at high speed. In order to improve the anti-rollover stability of electric vehicles (EV), this study proposes a real-time motor control strategy, mainly according to the acquisition of vehicle attitude data and real-time monitoring of the vehicle’s operating state. The lateral load transfer rate was defined as the vehicle rollover evaluation index. When the real-time rollover indicator exceeded the limit safety threshold this article set, the motor speed would be reduced through active control to avoid rollover or reduce the risk of rollover. Both simulation results in Carsim and Simulink showed that the motor control strategy is highly reliable and real-time capable, and the active safety of EV was improved significantly.

Streszczenie:
Electric vehicles with hub motors have integrated the motor into the wheel, which increase the unsprung mass of the vehicle, and intensifies the vibration of the underspring components. The motor excitation during driving also intensifies the wheel vibration. The coupling effect between the two makes the performance of electric vehicles deteriorate. The article employed a disc-type permanent-magnet motor as the hub motor, taking into consideration the increase in sprung mass caused by the hub motor and the adverse effects of vertical vibration from motor excitation. Based on random road-surface excitation, and considering the secondary excitation caused by wheel motor drive and vehicle-road coupling, a coupled-dynamics model of a semi-active-suspension vehicle-road system for vertical vehicle motion is investigated under multiple excitations. Using body acceleration, suspension deflection, and dynamic tire load as evaluation indicators, a BP neural network PID controller based on the sparrow search algorithm optimization is proposed for the semi-active-suspension system. Compared with PID control and particle swarm optimization (PSO-BPNN-PID), the research findings indicate that the optimized semi-active suspension significantly improves the ride comfort of hub-motor electric vehicles, and meets the requirements for control performance under different vehicle driving conditions.

Motor vehicle theft cases still often occur around us, this happens because there is still a lack of security systems in motorized vehicles that only use ignition keys and key covers, where the weakness of standard security systems like this has been understood by perpetrators of motor vehicle theft. to perform the action. The need for additional security systems is felt to be very necessary, in order to avoid the occurrence of motor vehicle theft. To overcome all this, a motor vehicle security system was created using SMS with an Arduino-based GPS tracking method, to create a GPS Tracker that can control vehicles via SMS (short message service) that can track or assist the vehicle's position using the Arduino Uno GPS (global positioning system). , SIM 800L. Compared with other motors, the permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) is small and occupies less space. At the same time, its weight is relatively light, so it is more in line with the development trend of hybrid electric vehicle (EV) drive motor lightweight miniaturization and has been widely used. This article studies a DSP-controlled PMSM control system for hybrid vehicles. Firstly, the motor drive control system is mainly controlled by DSP2812 chip. Then, a maximum torque current ratio control method was proposed to optimize the energy efficiency of hybrid vehicles based on PMSM. The longitudinal dynamic model of the moving hybrid vehicle was obtained by force analysis. Combined with the basic equation of PMSM and the transmission system of the hybrid vehicle, the mathematical model of PMSM-EV was established. The experimental results show that the maximum torque current ratio control method applied to hybrid vehicles can effectively reduce the loss, improve the efficiency and dynamic performance, and solve the endurance problem of hybrid vehicles to a certain extent. This advantage is significant in the dynamic acceleration and deceleration of hybrid vehicles.

Under the increasing competition in the insurance market, insurance companies look for ways to increase their profit while still presenting competitive premiums and not incurring in substantial risks. In order to achieve this, new ratemaking techniques are being employed, and updated tariffs are being developed. This work results from a curricular internship in the Pricing and Business Analytics department of Ocidental Seguros. The goal of this internship was to create a third-party motor tariff for "other vehicles" (motorcycles, trucks, buses, tractors, trailers and others). We have used data from two insurance companies, Ocidental and Ageas, in order to create a unique technical tariff for them. We have considered several risk factors that could explain the drivers' behaviour in order to model the claims' frequency and severity using Generalized Linear Models and combined them into a pure premium model.

Streszczenie:
In this work we reproduce driving techniques to mimic expert race drivers and obtain the open-loop control signals that may be used by auto-pilot agents driving autonomous ground wheeled vehicles. Race drivers operate their vehicles at the limits of the acceleration envelope. An accurate characterization of the acceleration capacity of the vehicle is required. Understanding and reproduction of such complex maneuvers also require a physics-based mathematical description of the vehicle dynamics. While most of the modeling issues of ground-vehicles/automobiles are already well established in the literature, lack of understanding of the physics associated with friction generation results in ad-hoc approaches to tire friction modeling. In this work we revisit this aspect of the overall vehicle modeling and develop a tire friction model that provides physical interpretation of the tire forces. The new model is free of those singularities at low vehicle speed and wheel angular rate that are inherent in the widely used empirical static models. In addition, the dynamic nature of the tire model proposed herein allows the study of dynamic effects such as transients and hysteresis. The trajectory-planning problem for an autonomous ground wheeled vehicle is formulated in an optimal control framework aiming to minimize the time of travel and maximize the use of the available acceleration capacity. The first approach to solve the optimal control problem is using numerical techniques. Numerical optimization allows incorporation of a vehicle model of high fidelity and generates realistic solutions. Such an optimization scheme provides an ideal platform to study the limit operation of the vehicle, which would not be possible via straightforward simulation. In this work we emphasize the importance of online applicability of the proposed methodologies. This underlines the need for optimal solutions that require little computational cost and are able to incorporate real, unpredictable environments. A semi-analytic methodology is developed to generate the optimal velocity profile for minimum time travel along a prescribed path. The semi-analytic nature ensures minimal computational cost while a receding horizon implementation allows application of the methodology in uncertain environments. Extensions to increase fidelity of the vehicle model are finally provided.

<div class="section abstract"><div class="htmlview paragraph">In the context of distributed-driven electric vehicles, the temperature of permanent magnet in-wheel motors tends to rise during prolonged and overload operating conditions. This temperature increase can lead to parameter drift in the motors, resulting in a decline in motor control performance, and in severe cases, motor failures. To address these issues, this paper establishes a motor parameter identification model based on the dq-axis stator current equation of the permanent magnet in-wheel motor. An improved Particle Swarm Optimization PSO algorithm is introduced to identify parameters such as motor resistance, inductance, and magnetic flux. In contrast to traditional parameter identification algorithms based on mathematical models, the improved PSO algorithm can simultaneously identify multiple parameters without encountering rank deficiency issues. Moreover, to overcome the slow convergence speed and low identification accuracy associated with traditional PSO algorithms, the improved PSO algorithm treats motor parameter identification as a time-series process. It incorporates the results of the previous parameter identification into the optimization process of particle velocities for the next iteration, providing guidance for PSO optimization. This accelerates the convergence speed of the population and enhances identification accuracy. Finally, through comparative simulations using Simulink, the results demonstrate that the improved PSO algorithm offers superior identification accuracy and faster convergence speed. It exhibits enhanced applicability in the control of permanent magnet in-wheel motors, effectively improving motor control precision and efficiency.</div></div>

Streszczenie:
Demand for more fuel efficient and less polluting vehicles has motivated development of the electric and hybrid power-trains. Unfortunately, some components used in these vehicles are expensive and complex. This research summarizes DC motor types, DC speed control methods and the use of an Infinitely Variable Transmission (IVT) to reduce the cost of the vehicle. A safe, low cost and repeatable laboratory setup was designed and documented for educational use. Motor testing revealed that field weakening can be a low-cost speed-control method but has limited range of control and must be supplemented. Additionally it was determined that a mechanical differential can be used as an IVT by varying the speed of the input motors. An innovative concept is presented using one DC motor as a power or traction motor, while another motor acts as a vehicle speed controller. This concept eliminates the need for expensive complex AC motor controllers, improves safety and efficiency, and reduces battery management requirements by lowering the operating voltage of the system.

By comparing these attributes in the context of real-world operational demands of electric vehicles, the paper aims to guide engineers and designers in selecting the most suitable motor type for specific EV applications. Additionally, the paper discusses the impact of recent advances in materials science, particularly in magnet technology and power electronics, on the performance improvements of EV motors. The findings suggest that while PMSM offers high efficiency and performance, the choice of motor may vary significantly based on application-specific requirements such as range, load conditions, and cost constraints. This comprehensive overview assists stakeholders in making informed decisions about motor selection to enhance the development of more robust, efficient, and cost-effective electric vehicles.

This paper presents an in-wheel motor fault diagnosis method for fault-tolerant control of four-wheel independently driven (4WID) electric vehicles. 4WID electric vehicle is one of the promising architectures for electric ground vehicles. While such a vehicle architecture greatly increases the flexibility for vehicle control, it also raises the requirements on system reliability, safety, and fault tolerance due to the increased number of actuators. A fault diagnosis approach for finding the faulty in-wheel motor/motor driver pair is developed. The proposed diagnosis approach does not need a precise knowledge on tire-road friction coefficient (TRFC). Robustness analysis shows that the approach can work well in the presence of tire modeling errors. Simulations using a high-fidelity, CarSim, full-vehicle model indicated the effectiveness of the proposed in-wheel motor/motor driver fault diagnosis approach.

Streszczenie:
The Linear Synchronous Motor (LSM) has been used for several high speed maglev applications but only recently have developers applied it to urban transit. MagneMotion has worked with the Federal Transit Administration (FTA), as part of their Urban Maglev Project, to develop an LSM propelled maglev transit system called M3. The top speed is only half that of the Transrapid maglev trains now operational in China but by using small vehicles with short headway and rapid acceleration it is possible to achieve outstanding performance at much lower cost. The combination of LSM technology and small vehicles is a cost effective replacement for rotary motor and Linear Induction Motor (LIM) powered trains for all transit applications, including conventional rail and monorail. LSM is the enabling technology that makes it economically and technically feasible to achieve high capacity with short vehicles and, conversely, the use of small vehicles makes LSM propulsion economically attractive. Small vehicles operating with short headway and organized in clusters can achieve high capacity without offline loading. Very precise position sensing and guideway based propulsion and control make short headways safe and affordable. This paper describes the objectives of the MagneMotion LSM development, discusses some of the design features, and presents 3 examples. The examples are based on operational speeds up to 60 m/s (134 mph), accelerations up to 0.16 g, vehicle headways down to 4 seconds, and capacities up to 12,000 passengers per hour per direction (pphpd). Examples include a 1 mile high capacity shuttle, a 4 km unidirectional loop with several stations, and a 30 km high-speed airport connector. Calculations show that an LSM propelled transit system has lower capital cost than conventional transit systems using vehicle-based electric propulsion with either rotary motors or LIMs. Vehicles are simplified, the cost of energy and maintenance is reduced and, most important, users of the transit system experience major reductions in trip times.

Streszczenie:
Abstract Hybrid vehicles integrate an internal combustion engine, electric motor with accompanying battery pack and generator, and potentially fuel cells to realize greater fuel economy and reduced emission levels. An attractive advantage of multiple energy sources is the increased travel range, reduced stationary recharging times, and availability of greater power for acceleration and payloads. A variety of operating scenarios exist for hybrid vehicle powertrains including engine (and belt driven generator), electric motor using battery back and/or fuel cell, and finally, engine and electric motor. Therefore, automotive subsystems such as hydraulic power steering cannot be consistently powered by a conventional belt driven hydraulic pump since the engine may be frequently turned-off to conserve energy. A need exists to investigate the dynamic behavior of various steering systems for hybrid vehicles in terms of platform steering characteristics, power consumption, and identification of performance requirements for a servo-motor steering system. In this paper, empirical and analytical mathematical models will be presented for power (e.g., hydraulic, electric, and steer-by-wire) rack and pinion steering units. The influence of vehicle and steering system nonlinearities will be introduced for greater accuracy in predicting the vehicle’s transient response. Representative results will be presented and discussed to investigate the response of the vehicle to different driver inputs as the steering system configurations are adjusted. An analysis of the numerical results will ultimately allow the prediction of vehicle trajectory, feedback torque, and power consumption during the driving maneuvers.

Streszczenie:
Direct Current (DC) Motors are one of the most common mechatronic actuators. They are important for electromechanical servo systems, drivers for battery powered appliances and tools as well as electric vehicles. Both brushless DC motors and wound DC motors are common in electric and hybrid vehicles. The series wound DC motor is commonly used for high torque vehicle applications. The literature has many papers discussing permanent magnet DC motors but a very limited number of publications on analytical models for series wound DC motors, especially motor models that fit series wound DC motor test data available in the market place. An analytical model for a series wound DC motor is developed here based on physical principles including energy conservation. The model developed will be compared with models developed by other investigators. Available commercial test data for a series motor will be used to find model parameters for the analytical model and the accuracy of this model evaluated against the original test data. The model developed displays excellent accuracy well within the accuracy of the test data available. Typical model rms deviation from test data is under 2% for the commercial series wound DC motors evaluated.

Probability analysis is the key to extracting the maximum information from the evidence surrounding a motor vehicle accident. Moreover, it gives essential perspective to the answers drawn from the evidence, by conveying the uncertainty about the answers. In this paper, probability methods are used to analyze a typical intersection type collision between two vehicles. It is a situation in which one of the vehicles pulls out from a stop sign into the path of the other vehicle, which had the right of way. The vehicle that pulls out into the path of the oncoming vehicle precipitates the accident, but the driver of the oncoming vehicle may have contributed to the accident by traveling at excessive speed and or by being inattentive.

Streszczenie:
Over 5.6 million road vehicles are registered in New Zealand, with a wide range of contaminants released as a result of their operation. The material wearing out from tyre tread has previously been identified as a contaminant of potential concern (COPC) in New Zealand, but its amount has not been quantified. Numerous studies confirm that the wear rate of a tyre depends on multiple factors and can vary significantly, even for the same type of vehicle with the same tyres installed. Such factors have already been classified and weighted; therefore, they were not the subject of the current research. The aim of this study is to estimate the total amount of material released into the environment in New Zealand due to the tread wear of tyres. In this research, the New Zealand motor vehicle fleet was divided into categories according to the available statistical data. The estimation of the amount of the tyre material released into the environment was done separately in each category of vehicle, using the three-point method (Low, Medium and High). The calculation was performed using the statistical average annual distances driven by vehicles, and the tyre abrasion rates, also called emission factors (mg/km). The emission factors were adopted through a thorough review of the available studies of tyre abrasion rates in different countries. The three-point estimate shows that every year roughly 6.5 to 15.5 thousand tonnes of material from tyre tread wear is released into the environment in New Zealand, which gives between 1.26 and 2.97 kg when converted per capita. Such quantification is an important step in understanding the impacts of this contaminant on New Zealand ecosystems. Further research of tyre tread wear material is needed with regard to its emission factors; deposition, migration and concentrations in environmental compartments; accumulation and degradation paths; effects on living organisms and human health.

Automated vehicles (AVs)—and the automated driving systems (ADSs) that enable them—are increasing in prevalence but remain far from ubiquitous. Progress has occurred in spurts, followed by lulls, while the motor transportation system learns to design, deploy, and regulate AVs. Automated Vehicles: A Human/Machine Co-learning Experience focuses on how engineers, regulators, and road users are all learning about a technology that has the potential to transform society. Those engaged in the design of ADSs and AVs may find it useful to consider that the spurts and lulls and stakeholder tussles are a normal part of technology transformations; however, this report will provide suggestions for effective stakeholder engagement.
