This paper presents a new methodology for optimizing missile fire plan parameters in order to maximize the damage caused to an airfield by the impacts of ballistic and cruise missiles that leak through an air defense artillery network using weaponeering calculations. This new methodology models the damage to the airfield runway, fuel infrastructure, and parked aircraft caused by both unitary and submunition warheads carried by the ballistic and cruise missiles. It then uses the airfield damage models paired with an air defense simulation in a multi-objective optimization to find the non-dominated frontier of missile fire plan parameters that inflict the greatest damage to the different parts of the defended airfield. It demonstrates the methodology for three increasingly sized ballistic and cruise missile fire plans.

Abstract Aerodynamic performance of missile wings is a vital factor affecting the endurance and combat effectiveness of cruise missiles. Given the current situation that the aerodynamic design of conventional cruise missile wings is less and there is more room for improvement, a missile wing shape with a winglet is considered designed to improve the cruise characteristics of cruise missiles effectively. Firstly, the EPPLER 66 is selected as the wing shape by the combination of vortex surface element approach batch calculation and CFD simulation analysis. According to the dimensional parameters of a typical patrol wing, the design variables and corresponding optimization intervals are determined, and the aerodynamic optimization is carried out by combining the genetic approach as well as the vortex lattice approach. CFD is used to verify the aerodynamic performance of the optimized wing. The calculation outcomes reveal that the optimized wing has a ratio of lift-to-drag of 23.43, which is 12.32% higher than that of the conventional flat wing.

According to existing provisions, the examination of missile weapons is a set of expert research activities aimed at studying missile and jet weapons, as well as their components (mechanisms, assemblies, etc.) and their interaction in order to obtain reliable information about the objects provided for research. The article discusses some aspects of the research of missile weapons – strategic cruise missiles X-101, the relevance of which is due to their constant use in russia. Now russia is again carrying out massive missile strikes against Ukraine with X-101/55 missiles. The occupiers have changed tactics and prefer mainly strategic cruise missiles to destroy military installations and infrastructure. At the same time, it should be borne in mind that until now there is no methodology for conducting an examination of artillery and missile weapons, and in the specialized literature there is only distinguishable data on missile weapons. Based on the generalization of the expert research practice of the Explosive Research and Research of Rocket and Artillery Weapons Department of the Military Research Laboratory of the Kyiv Scientific Research Institute of Forensic Expertise, the structural features of the X-101 strategic cruise missile were determined. Considering that many experts do not have information on these missiles, the material of this article will be used in the examination of missile weapons, namely, in the identification and description of research objects. A missile weapons examination is a qualification examination, during which not only an object can be identified as a missile weapon, but it can also be determined what type or type of missile weapon the object belongs to, as well as how this weapon was manufactured. The examination of missile weapons requires special knowledge in the field of missile and jet weapons (the structure/design features and properties of weapons, the procedure for handling and using them, ammunition for them, and the consequences of using them).

A dunai szállodahajó-turizmus a szabadidős célú turisztikai utazások feltörekvő részterülete, ugyanakkor a hosszú távon is kiemelkedő gazdasági teljesítmény fenntartásához szükség van a termékkonstrukció időszakos megújítására. Jelen tanulmány a dunai szállodahajóturizmus alapismérveit, piaci (keresleti-kínálati) jellemzőit foglalja össze a témakörben publikált folyóiratcikkek elemzésén keresztül. Bemutatja továbbá a piacvezető vállalatok (Tauck, Avalon Waterways, Crystal Cruises, Uniworld River Cruises, Viking River Cruises, Scenic River Cruises) aktuális (2020-2022-re szóló) termékkínálatát. A kvalitatív kutatás során 326 utazási csomag áttekintésére került sor, mely rámutatott a kulturális turisztikai attrakciók termékkínálatban betöltött kiemelkedő szerepére. Az eredmények alátámasztják, hogy számos turisztikai termék (például: természeti vonzerők, egészség- és gyógyturizmus) hiányzik a jelenlegi termékkonstrukcióból, melyeknek a kínálatba történő beépítése elősegítheti a célcsoport bővítését, ami a recesszió utáni időszakban hozzájárulhat a dunai szállodahajózás gazdasági teljesítményének javulásához. Tourism is shaped by rapidly changing consumer trends. Cruise tourism on the Danube is an emerging part of leisure tourism, but at the same time, to maintain outstanding economic performance in the long run, it is necessary to periodically renew the product portfolio. The following study summarizes the basic characteristics and market (supply-demand) features of Danube cruise tourism by a systematic literature review. The study presents the current (2020-2022) supply of market-leading companies (Tauck, Avalon Waterways, Crystal Cruises, Uniworld River Cruises, Viking River Cruises, Scenic River Cruises) by content analysis. Using qualitative research, 326 travel packages were reviewed, in which the dominant role of cultural tourist attractions was clear. The results confirm that many tourism products (e.g., natural attractions, medical tourism) are missing from the product range. Their addition could improve the economic performance of Danube cruise tourism in the post-recession period by expanding the target group.

The paper presents a comparison of two aerodynamic configurations of subsonic cruise missiles, characterized by the use of swept-back and forward-swept wings. The results of wind tunnel tests with the use of an automated measurement system characterizing the dependence of the lift and drag coefficients in a sufficiently wide range of angles of attack are presented. This allows us to compare the aerodynamic quality of the cruise missile models under investigation. The analysis of the results of experiments with the models and calculations in conditions of steady-state low-altitude horizontal flight revealed that the configurations of cruise missiles with a moderately swept wing, selected for comparison, have similar aerodynamic characteristics. Both configurations ensure the mode of flight at a given altitude and velocity in the range of the best angles of attack (maximum aerodynamic quality). Missiles with swept-back wings have better aerodynamic performance in terms of maximum aerodynamic quality, while the lift increment due to reduced trim losses for the forward-swept wing configuration only partially compensates the difference of the aerodynamic characteristics of the alternatives under consideration. Therefore, it is concluded that the choice of aerodynamic configuration of a subsonic cruise missile with a swept-back wing is preferable.

The purpose of the article is to publicize a methodical approach to determining the stability of cover structures of field fortifications to the shock-explosive action of modern missile weapons, in particular cruise and ballistic missiles. The purpose of this article is to present a methodological approach for determining the resistance of the cover structures of field fortifications to the impact and explosive effects of modern missile weapons, in particular cruise and ballistic missiles.The analysis shows that currently, the most dangerous means of fire destruction for troops are long-range cruise and ballistic missiles with high explosive effect. Under such conditions, the most effective way to protect troops is to shelter them in field fortifications, the cover structures of which are resistant to the impact and explosive effects of these missiles.The article presents a methodological approach to determining the resistance of the cover structures of field fortifications to the impact and explosive effects of cruise and ballistic missiles and the results of determining the required thickness of the cover of these structures, which are made of the most readily available building materials in the field – soil, sand, clay, stone, concrete and reinforced concrete. The scientific novelty of the proposed methodological approach lies in the comprehensive consideration of a set of indicators quantifying the main tactical and technical characteristics of modern cruise and ballistic missiles, their flight and trajectory parameters, as well as indicators taking into account the most important properties of materials for the construction of a penetration and emission protection cover of a field fortification.

AbstractThe absence of a major multilateral treaty banning missiles is explained by the limited scope of the two main instruments against missile proliferation – the Missile Technology Control Regime (MTCR) and the Hague Code of Conduct against Ballistic Missile Proliferation (HCOC). In the MTCR's case, limiting the scope to supply-side technology controls facilitated progress during its negotiations. In the Hague Code, limiting the scope to transparency, and keeping out additional items such as incentives to renounce ballistic missiles and the topic of cruise missiles, made negotiations easier. The trade-off from a limited scope in both instruments is that there is still no significant worldwide treaty banning missiles.

Tourism in the 21st century is being re-shaped by constant changes in consumer trends. The Danube, Europe’s second-longest river, has rich potential for tourism over its whole course, and river cruises offer superb opportunities to explore. This study aims to provide a comprehensive picture of the most important characteristics of cruise tourism on the Danube. In our research, a literature review (LR) and content analysis (CA) were used to examine trends in the inland waterway cruise sector, which, despite the growing interest in the product, is still not deemed to be a part of mass tourism. Danube cruise tourism relies heavily on alternative (niche) tourism features, which satisfy both cultural and authentic tourism preferences. Currently, many elements of niche tourism are missing from the product supply, but, with a modest addition of such features, the demand for the product could increase and its economic performance in the period following the expected recession would be enhanced.

In this paper, an optoelectronic hybrid processing system for cruise missile scene matching guidance based on convolute structure Joint-Transform-Correlator(JTC) was proposed. By edge detection of input image and binaryzation processing of joint power spectrum, the system can achieve sharper correlation peak and location accuracy. Simulation calculation and optical experiments show that even in noisy background, the system can obtain excellent recognition and location performances with 16frames/s, recognition probability greater than 94%, and location accuracy better than a pixel. It is very advantageous to meet the demands of further improving performance, speed, and shoot accuracy of the cruise missiles.

The article assesses the nature of missile competition between India and Pakistan and how it impacts deterrence and strategic stability in South Asia. It also analyses how their respective ballistic and cruise missile programmes developed. Taking the action-reaction model of arms racing, it concludes that there is indeed such a dynamic at play between the two countries. The missiles competition is very much linked to the nuclear competition as well. India’s Ballistic Missile Defence (BMD) system also factors into the competitions, whereby Pakistan was forced to develop missiles that could saturate and defeat it. The missile and nuclear competition has an overall negative impact on deterrence and strategic stability in South Asia. Pakistan’s biggest security challenge is to achieve security and deterrence against a hostile India without falling into the trap of an economically ruinous arms race.

Abstrak – Penelitian pada bidang teknologi roket dapat menjadi indikator kemajuan suatu negara. Teknologi roket dapat digunakan sebagai alat pertahanan. Di bidang militer jenis roket yang digunakan adalah peluru kendali (rudal). Jenis rudal yang paling terkenal adalah rudal jelajah. Rudal jelajah terbang dengan lintasan horizontal menuju target. Rudal jelajah menggunakan sayap sebagai pembangkit gaya aerodinamika untuk mengontrol gerakan sewaktu mengudara. Pada intinya rudal jelajah adalah pesawat tanpa awak yang dirancang untuk membawa hulu ledak konvensional dengan jarak ratusan kilometer. Agar dapat mencapai target secara autonomus, rudal jelajah harus memiliki sistem control surface otomatis yang dapat membetulkan arah saat terbang sesuai dengan misi. Sistem navigasi yang baik akan mengarahkan rudal jelajah pada target dengan akurat. Sistem navigasi dapat menentukan posisi, kecepatan, dan sikap dari rudal jelajah. Penelitian ini akan membahas mengenai perancangan sistem navigasi pada rudal jelajah. Sistem navigasi ini akan digunakan rudal jelajah yang akan diikutkan pada kompetisi. Dalam penelitian ini, sistem navigasi yang dibuat akan berbasiskan pada waypoint. Pada sistem ini posisi dari rudal akan terus menerus diperbaharui agar sistem dapat mengarahkan rudal pada sasaran dengan akurat. Dengan mempertimbangkan faktor keamanan, motor elektrik dan baling baling berjenis ducted fan dipilih sebagai pengganti tenaga pendorong pada rudal jelajah konvensional. Ini mengakibatkan perubahan parameter seperti pada kecepatan, getaran, daya angkat, dan daya dorong. Berdasarkan hasil pengujian, sistem mampu merespon perubahan arah lintasan terbang pada rudal agar mendekati target sebesar 100% dan mampu mengarahkan rudal jelajah pada target dengan galat sebesar 30%, dengan parameter keberhasilan mencapai target yang memiliki radius sejauh 15 meter kemudian melakukan separasi. Air and sea-based cruise missiles are the most dangerous means of air attack. Local air defense is organized to protect assets from these strikes. This takes into account the possible directions of cruise missiles strikes and the effectiveness of assets protection. The effectiveness of assets protection from cruise missiles strikes is assessed by the probability of their preservation, which is determined using the developed methodology based on a simulation model of air defense. The method allows taking into con-sideration the impact of the peculiarities of the cruise missiles usage and the peculiarities of the air defense functioning on the effectiveness of assets protection, in repelling cruise missiles strikes. The application of the method is shown in an example.

The thermal environment generated by aerodynamic heating significantly changes the mechanical properties of the materials and structure, including the elastic modulus, stiffness, and so on. The complex flight maneuver process will also produce high-temperature gradients, which affect the thermal stress field. Both of these impacts significantly affect the characteristics of the missile structures natural vibration. In this paper, thermal vibration joint testing was performed on two different wing structures of a high-speed missile under a thermal environment, and the vibration characteristics of the wing structure (e.g., the natural frequency) at various temperatures were obtained. The experimental results can provide a reliable basis for the safety design of the wing structure of missiles under high-speed thermal vibration conditions.

Hypersonic cruise missile always adopts the configuration of waverider body with the restraint of scramjet. As a result, the lateral motion exhibits serious coupling, and the controller design of the lateral lateral system cannot be conducted separately for yaw channel and roll channel. A multiple input and multiple output optimal control method with integrators is presented to design the lateral combined control system for hypersonic cruise missile. A hypersonic cruise missile lateral model is linearized as a multiple input and multiple output plant, which is coupled by kinematics and fin deflection between yaw and roll. In lateral combined controller, the integrators are augmented, respectively, into the loop of roll angle and lateral overload to ensure that the commands are tracked with zero steady-state error. Through simulation, the proposed controller demonstrates good performance in tracking the command of roll angle and lateral overload.

Missile is one of Indonesia 7 self – reliant main weapon system programs. Therefore research on the anti – surface ship missile system concept had been carried out at the Faculty of Defense Technology, Defense University. This research aims to abtain optimal design of anti – ship missile concept from previous research, i.e. 2 stages cruise missile with diameter of 0.36 m, total length of 5.19 m, cruise flight altitude of 17 m, and cruise flight speed of 0.88 Mach. The optimation is done on the missile’s aerodynamics characteristics to maximize its lift to drag ratio, which is one of the factor that determine the missile’s performance. Variables of nose cone shapes, number of wings, and body cross sections were chosen for evaluation of lift to drag ratio. The research found that nose cone shape did not affect the aerodynamic characteristics since the flight speed is subsonic. From the rest of the variables, it is found that the best configuration is missile with 2 wings with root length of 1.18 m, height of 0.79 m, and tip length of 0.71 m, elliptical body cross section, and the missile is to be flown at 6o angle of attack.

The Optimal trajectory design for hypersonic cruise missile is an optimal control problem with strict terminal constraints and variable final time. The classical algorithms always encounter the problems of high sensitivity to initial guess and local convergence in solving this problem. Aiming at these problems, genetic algorithm (GA) which is of good global convergence is applied to designing the optimal trajectory for hypersonic cruise missile. In order to improve the convergence rate of GA and overcome its premature problems, this text introduces a predatory search (PS) strategy to speed the convergence of genetic algorithms, robust and closer to the optimal solution. This text compares the original genetic algorithm (GA) and improved genetic algorithm by the emulate experiments, and the results show that the PSGA is a more effective method to design the Optimal trajectory for hypersonic cruise missile than the original genetic algorithm.

With a focus on the strategic competition between the United States and Russia, this paper explores the prospects for the future of arms control under an intensifying nuclear security dilemma. The end of stability-enhancing agreements such as the INF Treaty and Open Skies has accelerated the arms race. What is the future of New START and are we likely to see any extension beyond 2021? The relationship between arms control and strategic stability is part of this evaluation, particularly with respect to how states view the concept framed within their national security interests. The provocative role that offensive – deterrence by denial – capabilities play in contributing to strategic instability is central to this study. This work looks particularly at new systems designed for asymmetric advantage, including those that can defeat strategic defences, such as longer-range cruise missiles and hypersonic vehicles. Under conditions of modernizations and upgrades to nuclear arsenals, including the entanglement of conventional and nuclear systems that can threaten a first strike, this work considers how a dialogue on limiting dangerous systems could be initiated between the US and Russia. Could New START be revised – or a new treaty established – to limit advances in cruise missile technology, hypersonics, missile defences, and tactical nuclear weapons?

An observer is developed to estimate the states and control signals of desired trajectory as the inputs of the tracking controller. The linear quadratic optimal control is used to realize full-state feedback control for trajectory tracking. A certain cruise missile is used for the tracking simulation and the result shows satisfactory performance, the control method is simple and suitable for engineering applications.

A discrete variable structure control (DVSC) with sliding vector is presented to track the velocity and acceleration command for a hypersonic cruise missile. In the design an integrator is augmented to ensure the tracking with zero steady-state errors. Furthermore the sliding surface of acceleration is designed using the error of acceleration and acceleration rate to avoid the singularity of control matrix. A proper power rate reaching law is utilized in this proposal; therefore the state trajectory from any initial point can be driven into the sliding surface. Besides, in order to validate the robustness of controller, the unmolded dynamic and parameter disturbance of the missile are considered. Through simulation the proposed controller demonstrates good performance in tracking velocity and acceleration command.

There is currently a renewal of world-wide interest in hypersonic flight. Vehicle concepts being considered range from cruise missiles to SSTO and TSTO vehicles. The new characteristics of these vehicles are that they will be powered by air-breathing engines and have long residence times in the air-breathing corridor. In the Mach 4–7 regime, waverider aircraft are being considered as candidates for both long-range and short-range cruise missions, as hypersonic missiles, and as high-L/D highly maneuverable vehicles. This paper will discuss the potential for near-term and far-term application of air-breathing engines to the above-mentioned waverider vehicle concepts and missions. In particular, the cruise mission is discussed in detail and attempts are made to compare and contrast it with the accelerator mission. Past criticisms levied against waveriders alleging low volumetric efficiency, lack of engine/airframe integration studies, poor off-design performance, poor take-off and landing capability, have been shown by ongoing research to be unfounded. A discussion is presented of some of the technical challenges and ongoing research aimed at realizing such vehicles: from turboramjet and scramjet technology development, propulsion-airframe integration effects on vehicle performance, aeroservothermoelastic systems analysis, hypersonic stability and control with aeroservothermoelastic and propulsion effects, etc. A unique and very strong aspect of hypersonic vehicle design is the integration and interaction of the propulsion system, aerodynamics, aerodynamic heating, stability and control, and materials and structures. This first-order multidisciplinary situation demands the ability to integrate highly coupled and interacting elements in a fundamental and optimal fashion to achieve the desired performance. Some crucial technology needs are found in propulsion-airframe integration and its role in configuration definition, hypersonic boundary-layer transition and its impact on vehicle gross-weight and mission success, scramjet combustor mixing length and its impact on engine weight and, CFD (turbulence modeling, transition modeling, etc) as a principal tool for the design of hypersonic vehicles. Key technology implications in thermal management, structures, materials, and flight control systems will also be briefly discussed. It is concluded that most of the technology requirements in the Mach 4–7 regime are relatively conventional, making cited applications near-term, yet offering very significant advancements in aircraft technology.

In this paper, in allusion to the problem of simulation training system of cruise missile GUI, some key technologies about how to realize the system are introduced, including 3D modeling, object picking up, multi-channel comparison, object hierarchical display and so on. Accordingly, the six freedom motion simulation system is presented, which was established by Visual C++. Secondly, establishing cruise missile entity model in Multigen Creator and putting it into the vision simulation system that is build up by Vega Prime. At lastly, combining two simulation systems into an integrity one. The integrity simulation system performed well in test.

Objects of critical infrastructure of Ukraine need a multi-level anti-missile defense system, which should protect against various types of missiles with a flight range of several tens to several hundreds of kilometers. Timely detection of missiles allows for a number of measures aimed at interception and destruction of targets, the use of radio-electronic warfare, the installation of interfering and obstructing obstacles in various ranges of radio waves, as well as the inclusion of optical and thermal traps. The use of robotic complexes placed on aerostats increases the effectiveness of modern surface-to-air missile system (SAMS) many times over in the fight against low-flying targets with massed strikes of cruise missiles. The location of radar at an altitude of several kilometers ensures the detection range of low-flying targets several times greater than that of ground-based radar. This is of particular importance for SAMS when firing at targets beyond the radio horizon. The transfer of data about the location of the target from the radar of the air carrier to the air defense system and its illumination and guidance radar (at least the approximate location) provides the opportunity to bring the anti-missile to the point of inclusion of its homing head. It is proposed to modernize the radar with an active phased antenna array used on fighters to increase the range and installation on airships and balloons. This will ensure the effectiveness of defense against missile attacks, detection and tracking of up to 100 targets at distances of about 40...400 km. At the same time, the weight of the radar within the range of 200...500 kg and the dimensions of the antennas up to 1 meter are permissible for installation on large balloons. Countries for which attacks of various types of missiles are a real threat need a multi-level anti-missile system, in particular, using robotic complexes placed on air carriers.
