With the development of the Internet, online games are becoming more and more popular. Boys, middle school students, and children have a higher percentage of minors playing online games, according to data from the 2020 National Research Report on Minors' Internet Use. The purpose of this paper is to study the reasons why minors are addicted to games and its impact on body and mind. Through literature reading and analysis, it is found that the important factors of teenagers addicted to the Internet are family factors and school factors. In the family, parents should try not to use mobile phones when they are with their children. In schools, schools should also teach students in accordance with their aptitude, pay attention to the all-round development of students, and enrich their cultural life.

Streszczenie:
Obesity is the epidemic of the century, due to its prevalence, impact on national budgets, loss in a gross domestic product, productivity loss, and impact on mortality, morbidity and quality of life. National behaviour change campaigns have not yet shown acceptable long-term results, and there is a need for higher taxation on unhealthy food. Besides, adolescents are vulnerable and easily targeted by “ultra-funded” sophisticated marketing campaigns. Modest evidence on first and second-line treatments makes bariatric surgery the main treatment of choice. Bariatric surgery could be the standard of care provided to those adolescents who failed weight loss attempts for more than six months and present pre-specified high body mass index and obesity-related comorbidities. To confirm whether the findings extracted from the initial narrative search were still valid, an additional, more profound narrative search, including systematic literature review features, was performed, extracting information before the COVID-19 pandemic from three databases: PubMed from 2018 to 2019; Google Scholar from 2018 to 2019; and The Centre for Reviews and Dissemination from the University of York (from 2010 to 2019). Policymakers need to commit with community health campaigns to change societal behaviour on the real impact of obesity. There is a need for earmarked taxation on unhealthy food to prevent obesity publicly and provide enough funds to increase the provision and reimbursement of bariatric surgery. Bariatric surgery at early ages can reduce the progression of morbid obesity-related comorbidities. However, evaluations of morbidly obese adolescents are not performed in time, due to barriers, which avoid upcoming bariatric surgery procedures. Stakeholders should develop strategies to reduce attrition rate and improve patient retention through juvenile-oriented care. There are still ethical aspects pending since we do not fully know the long-term effects and complications. Given the low impact of public preventive campaigns targeting voluntary behavioural change in the long run, and the lax taxation and regulation on the food industry, decision makers should change their mind on bariatric surgery, from an indulgent waste of money to an effective fund-saver.

Background: The increase in the number of people with hypertension in Indonesia is a challenge in the field of health services that requires serious attention from all parties. This is because hypertension can be experienced by all residents of various age groups and has the potential to trigger other health problems. Objective: This study aims to identify hypnotherapy as part of the application of mind body therapy in hypertension sufferers. Design: This study is a literature review. Data Sources (include search dates): Researchers use the Google Scholar database to search articles. The range of years of publication of articles used is between 2013-2022. The search keywords used to find articles related to the theme of this study were influence, effectiveness, hypnotherapy, and hypertension. Review Methods: The author uses a systematic review method in accordance with the PRISMA stages which include identification, screening, inclusion and feasibility of the article findings which are then analyzed. Results: From the results of the review of the articles conducted, it was found that the provision of hypnotherapy interventions will help hypertensive patients to control their blood pressure. The application of hypnotherapy has an effective effect on reducing blood pressure in people with hypertension. Hypnotherapy is carried out by guiding hypertension sufferers to enter a trance state (relaxation of mind) and after a relaxed state is reached, the subconscious mind will open so that one can accept positive suggestions easily. When a hypertensive patient is in a trance state, the body will produce endorphins which produce a comfortable and relaxed sensation. In a relaxed state, an autonomic nervous response will occur, causing a decrease in blood pressure. Conclusion: Hypnotherapy is a part of mind body therapy, which is a type of complementary therapy that can be applied to help hypertensive patients control their blood pressure to keep it in optimal condition.

Purpose: To contribute to the treatment fidelity literature by providing real-world examples and suggestion for future research and potential clinical application, this article reports on implementation, assessment, and evaluation of treatment fidelity in mind–body self-care approaches in at-risk women. Method: Aligning with best practices, treatment fidelity was integrated into three randomized clinical trials. The first examined the effects of a tai chi intervention designed to decrease cardiometabolic risk factors in women; the second examined the effects of a tailored guided imagery intervention on pregnancy outcomes in African American women; and the third explored effects of a mindful physical activity intervention (yoga) on psychological outcomes in women with moderate to severe depressive symptoms. Findings: Each of the studies successfully designed, implemented, and evaluated strategies to address recommended treatment fidelity components. These strategies provided qualitative and quantitative data that informed intervention refinement, directions for future research, and application in clinical practice. Conclusions: The treatment fidelity framework used here is based on best practices and was a feasible and reliable approach for ensuring and reporting on treatment fidelity, which is contributing to future research to foster translation of potentially effective mind–body self-care approaches into practice.

This systematic review examined available literature on mind and body complementary health practices for informal caregivers (ICG). The United States Department of Health and Human Services defines mind and body complementary health practices as acupuncture, massage therapy, chiropractic osteopathic manipulation, healing touch, hypnotherapy, guided imagery, breathing exercises, progressive muscle relaxation, yoga, tai chi, qi gong, Rolfing Structural Integration, Feldenkrais method, Alexander technique, and Trager psychophysical integration. Literature related to these mind and body practices were searched using PubMed, Elton B. Stephens Co. (EBSCO), and Google Scholar databases. The screening process resulted in 220 sources that appeared for the search terms “ICG” and each of the mind and body practices. Four yoga manuscripts met the final inclusion criteria. While the level of evidence for ICG is weak generally, examples of improvements after yoga participation included reduced depression levels and state anxiety, and improvement in physical fitness. Implications for recreational therapy practice are discussed.

Purpose With the ubiquitous diffusion of mobile-enabled internet, individuals are constantly immersed in both virtual and physical environments. While this causes distractions, lower attention spans and disasters such as texting while driving and walking, it also creates synergies and smoother navigational experiences. Technology developers, marketers and policy-makers are both concerned and intrigued to understand how to deploy these mobile technologies so as to optimize their disruptive impact. In this paper, the authors aim to develop a framework of dual consciousness to understand the potential causes and outcomes of individual’s simultaneous presence in physical and virtual worlds. Design/methodology/approach A careful review of past academic literature on behavior, as well as media reports of incidents of disruptions, led the authors to construct a 2 × 2 framework depicting behaviors that indicated high-low consciousness in physical, as well as virtual worlds. Findings In dual environments, individuals either dissociate from one of the environments or integrate both environments. While the former is driven by the multiplicity of irrelevant roles and goals, oblivion of relevant roles, perception of group norms and performance of practiced routine tasks, the latter is driven by strong executive control processes, focused singular goals and usage of the virtual environment to reinforce their physical tasks. The most affected parties are retailers, service providers, digital marketers and social media marketers. Originality/value Most prior research in interactive marketing examine effects of online stimuli on online behavior. This paper identifies the noise created by physical context on clicks as well as the interference created by virtual stimuli on physical purchases and service experiences.

Various mind–body fitness modalities such as Pilates, yoga, Tai Chi, and Qigong have become an accepted part of the physical activity, exercise, and leisure sector, serving several populations eligible for meditative movement activities. However, no robust evidence is present in the current literature supporting the efficacy of these meditative movement activities on health, fitness, and well-being markers among obese adults. Interestingly, the feasibility and safety of mind–body fitness programs in this cohort are still questionable. However, the limited available data show the beneficial role of such alternative exercise options in improving numerous physical fitness and cardiometabolic health-related indicators. The major role of mind–body fitness in obese individuals is to promote muscle control, body functionality, flexibility, and balance while reducing physical limitations, chronic pain, and stress through sessions integrating body postures, efficient breathing patterns, meditation, and relaxation. Such a bodily movement-based approach may be associated with increased physical performance and improved cardiometabolic as well as mental health. However, data on anthropometric characteristics, body composition and cardiovascular disease risk factors modification are somewhat equivocal. Future studies are needed to investigate a wider spectrum of physical fitness and cardiometabolic health parameters, since obese people are likely to demonstrate poor functional capacity, impaired glucose control, lipid disorder, and abnormal blood pressure levels.

Matthew Rebhorn, “Billy’s Fist: Neuroscience and Corporeal Reading in Melville’s Billy Budd” (pp. 218–244) This essay explores the relationship between Herman Melville’s Billy Budd (published 1924) and late-nineteenth-century neuroscience—particularly works by Alexander Bain and George Henry Lewes—to argue that this novel advances a new way of reading the body. Inflected by Melville’s late encounter with Arthur Schopenhauer’s ruminations on “will power,” Melville uses neuroscience to develop Schopenhauer’s idea into what I am calling a “corporeal reading” practice. This is a reading practice, I argue, that erodes the ontological distinction between the mind and body, between the mind as subject and the body as mere object. Yet because Melville set this novel in wartime, this new reading practice also reveals the deep, and often deadly, tensions that accompany understanding the body as having a mind of its own. In this way, Billy Budd becomes a primer not only for expanding the notion of the bodily consciousness, but also for learning to read the political inflections of the animate body and its “will (to) power.”

Recent development in second language acquisition scholarship has advanced our understanding of how language is acquired by aligning the mind, body, and socio-material world. Although many studies have been conducted from this perspective, more study on alignment focusing on writing a play script story in literature is needed. Drawing upon the idea of socio-cognitive alignment, this study investigated English literature student interactions during the process of writing a play script. It aims were to find out how mind-body-world as socio-cognitive alignment could contribute to a meaning-making process during writing a play script. A moment analysis was used as a method for analyzing data which were elicited from an audio/videotape recording and semi-structured interviews using a digital platform. Results revealed that the integration of mind, body, and world was well-coordinated during the process of writing the play script. That is, the integration of mind-body-world was evident in how the students employed both verbal resources and other multimodalities in working with literary works and fiction. The study also demonstrated the importance of alignment and interaction for the development of fiction writing and language competence of EFL students.

Background Despite current rehabilitation programs, long-term engagement in physical activity remains a significant challenge for patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and heart failure (HF). Novel strategies to promote physical activity in these populations are greatly needed. Emerging literature on the benefits of both mind–body interventions and web-based interventions provide the rationale for the development of the Mindful Steps intervention for increasing walking behavior. Objective This study aims to develop a novel multimodal mind–body exercise intervention through adaptation of an existing web-based physical activity intervention and incorporation of mind–body exercise, and to pilot test the delivery of the new intervention, Mindful Steps, in a randomized controlled feasibility trial in older adults with COPD and/or HF. Methods In phase 1, guided by a theoretical conceptual model and review of the literature on facilitators and barriers of physical activity in COPD and HF, we convened an expert panel of researchers, mind–body practitioners, and clinicians to inform development of the novel, multimodal intervention. In phase 2, we are conducting a pilot randomized controlled feasibility trial of the Mindful Steps intervention that includes in-person mind–body exercise classes, an educational website, online mind–body videos, and a pedometer with step-count feedback and goals to increase walking behavior in patients with COPD and/or HF. Outcomes include feasibility measures as well as patient-centered measures. Results The study is currently ongoing. Phase 1 intervention development was completed in March 2019, and phase 2 data collection began in April 2019. Conclusions Through the integration of components from a web-based physical activity intervention and mind–body exercise, we created a novel, multimodal program to impact long-term physical activity engagement for individuals with COPD and HF. This developmental work and pilot study will provide valuable information needed to design a future clinical trial assessing efficacy of this multimodal approach. Mind-body interventions have been shown to improve physical and mental health outcomes among cancer survivors, and African Americans have one of the highest cancer mortality rates of all racial/ethnic groups, while often facing considerable barriers to quality healthcare. African American cancer survivors report difficulty accessing mind-body practices, and few studies have focused exclusively on African American populations. This integrative review aims to explore the acceptability and use of mind-body interventions among African American cancer survivors. This review seeks to determine if current research indicates that mind-body interventions may be helpful in improving outcomes for African American cancer survivors. The literature search resulted in 284 studies, of which 14 met the inclusion criteria. Inclusion criteria were articles published in or after 2016, written in the English language, addressing mind-body modalities, and including a study population of ≥50% African American cancer survivors. Other reviews, meta-analyses, or studies without results were excluded. Results indicate that African American cancer survivors have expressed receptiveness to interventions incorporating mindfulness, meditation, yoga, Tai Chi, and other mind-body or complimentary/alternative medicine interventions. Still, few studies have offered such interventions exclusively to African American cancer survivors. This review indicated that African American cancer survivors across demographic backgrounds are interested in and view mind-body practices as an acceptable way to improve quality of life, pain interference, fatigue, anxiety, depression, and physical health; however, the interventions should be culturally appropriate and accessible. In conclusion, despite a growing interest in mind-body interventions, African American communities are often unaware of opportunities to engage in these practices in their communities, and mind-body practices are inaccessible due to cost or geographical location. Additional research that offers such interventions specific to African American cancer survivors is warranted.

The ability of the mind and spirit to influence the body’s processes is a major theme in complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) literature. Some CAM authors have taken this idea to the extreme, claiming that the mind has complete control over the body. In this article, the origins and functions of the concept of the mind’s preeminence over the body are examined from historical, psychological, and sociological perspectives. Historically, this concept became especially emphasized during times of widespread social upheaval, possibly because dissociation from the body is an effective psychological coping mechanism. Important social functions are also served by the identification with an immaterial self, which may explain this concept’s prominence in CAM. Habitual dissociation from the body, however, is unhealthy. The implications for medicine of a more balanced view of the mind-body relationship are explored.

Abstract Medical texts especially of the Huangdi neijing 黃帝內經 tradition provide an important counterpoint to philosophical debates about the relation of body and mind in early China and in particular to the understanding of the “mind” (xin 心), since medical texts must address the role of the xin-heart as one of the visceral systems. This paper surveys accounts of both “mind” and “spirit” (shen 神) in the Huangdi neijing and proposes a view of a person in which cognitive and affective faculties are decentralized and corporeal, rather than being centered in the mind.

Ageing is a multidimensional process of physical, psychological and social change. Ayurveda Rasayana therapy has given powerful contribution to overcome age related disorders and act essentially on nutrition dynamics and rejuvenate the body and the mind.Rasayana is an ancient Ayurvedic therapy that aims to rejuvenate and revitalize the body and mind. The term Rasayana comes from the Sanskrit words rasa and ayana, which mean essence and path respectively. According to Ayurvedic theory, Rasayana therapies are designed to promote the production and circulation of vital fluids, such as blood and lymph, and to remove toxins from the body. The use of Rasayana therapies in geriatric mental health care is based on the idea that as we age, our body and mind becomes less efficient at producing and circulating vital fluids, and more susceptible to the effects of toxins and stress. This can lead to a wide range of mental health issues, including depression, anxiety and dementia. By promoting the production and circulation of vital fluids, and removing the toxins from the body, Rasayana therapies are believed to help prevent and alleviate these conditions, Result of the study revealed that improvement in the signs and symptoms of Agnibala, Dehabala and Sattvabala on elderly individuals.

For most readers of Milton's late prose and mature verse, his positive depictions of the human body deeply inform his monism and antimonarchical politics. This essay argues that Milton's perspectives on mind and body are more ambivalent than the critical consensus allows: that the poet equally needs and does not need the body. I demonstrate that Milton's shifting perspectives on mind and body, spirit and flesh, emanate from his opposition to dynastic kingship. They also shape his emerging modern nationalism, which is marked by contradictions and liminality. By focusing on the fallen Adam's soliloquy, I show how Milton's equivocal body politics appropriates and disembodies Hebraic traditions and the concreteness of the Hebraic past (and other histories of others), as well as the very matter of cultural memory. Abstract Physical activity reduces cancer risk, yet African American adults remain insufficiently active, contributing to cancer health disparities. Harmony & Health (HH) was developed as a culturally adapted mind-body intervention to promote physical activity, psychosocial well-being, and quality of life among a church-based sample of overweight/obese, insufficiently active African American adults. Men and women were recruited to the study through an existing church partnership. Eligible participants (N = 50) were randomized to a movement-based mind-body intervention (n = 26) or waitlist control (n = 24). Participants in the intervention attended 16 mind-body sessions over 8 weeks and completed a physical assessment, questionnaires on moderate-to-vigorous physical activity (MVPA) and psychosocial factors, and accelerometry at baseline (T1), post-intervention (T2), and 6 week follow-up (T3). Eighty percent of participants (94% women, M age = 49.7 ± 9.4 years, M body mass index = 32.8 ± 5.2 kg/m2) completed the study, and 61.5% of intervention participants attended ≥10 mind-body sessions. Participants self-reported doing 78.8 ± 102.9 (median = 40.7, range: 0–470.7) min/day of MVPA and did 27.1 ± 20.7 (median = 22.0, range: 0–100.5) min/day of accelerometer-measured MVPA at baseline. Trends suggest that mind-body participants self-reported greater improvements in physical activity and psychosocial well-being from baseline to post-intervention than waitlist control participants. HH is feasible and acceptable among African American adults. Trends suggest that the mind-body intervention led to improvements in physical activity and psychosocial outcomes. This study extends the literature on the use of mind-body practices to promote physical and psychological health and reduce cancer disparities in African American adults.

Purpose of the Review. This critical review presents an overview of the development in the field of mind-body medicine over the last 10 years and has taken tentative steps toward suggesting the components of a new model of health based on psychoneuroimmunology. While documenting the major shortcomings of present research design, methodology, data analysis, and subsequent hypotheses, this article points out areas of sufficient promise for practical and responsible clinical applications of the research. Search Method Used. A thorough review of the clinical and experimental medical literature related to the interaction between mind and body is presented, and the new and complex research in the field of psychoneuroimmunology is analyzed. Summary of Important Findings. Despite the mixed and sometimes conflicting findings in current research, there is an increasingly compelling body of scientific evidence indicating that mind-body interactions are at the root of both health and disease. Research demonstrates that psychological factors seem to play a causal role in the onset and course of many chronic disorders and that psychological, emotional, psychosocial, and behavioral interventions have at least as much proof of effectiveness as many purely medical treatments. Major Conclusions. There is a substantial growing body of scientific and clinical knowledge which demonstrates an inextricable interaction between mind and body. Such an approach empowers individuals and organizations to assume greater responsibility for health as a basis for the development of a true health care system.

The interaction of philosophy and literature is clarified in the relationship between literature and music. As distinct genres of art, literature and music have much in common when we consider them in the theoretical context of overcoming the traditional dichotomy of mind and body. The phenomenon of so-called linguistic iconography illustrates the movement of literature beyond the substantial split of man into mind and body. Music also avoids this dichotomy, denying the difference between subject and form. Then the form does not symbolize or express something, but represents a musical meaning. In both cases, literature and music produce embodied meanings, that is, those that lie in reality itself. Semantic poverty and fixation on real linguistic iconography and music enable the process of embodiment of meanings. Perception of the latter involves the use of not only mental but also bodily abilities of man in their cognitive integrity.

The relationship between mind and body is much stronger than we generally comprehend. The more researchers and practitioners explore the realm of mind-body therapies, the more possibilities are created and new hope is kindled. Although a bulk of literature is available on mind-body medicine, there is still a dearth of studies based on their application among children who have some neurodevelopmental problems. This paper is an attempt to review the research available on the application of therapies like hypnotherapy, biofeedback, and meditation to children with ADHD and learning disabilities. The study also aims to suggest ways to design better interventions using the aforementioned tools in the treatment of childhood disorders and to encourage more robust empirical studies.

Individuals with a diagnosis of schizophrenia face a myriad of obstacles to wellness, beginning with diagnostic discrepancies including over- and misdiagnoses on the schizophrenia spectrum. People with schizophrenia experience profound amounts of stigmatization from the general population, their healthcare providers, and even themselves. Such stigmatization creates a barrier for wellness, poorer prognoses, and often limits adherence to physical and mental healthcare. Moreover, it can exacerbate the already stifling symptomatology of their diagnoses, including specific bodily-related symptomatology. Oftentimes, a diagnosis of schizophrenia disrupts one’s relationship with their body including a diminished mind-body connection, decreased interoceptive awareness, and thus unsuccessful intra- and interpersonal relationships. Some recent research suggests the use of mind-body therapies, however, if these practices are internalizing, they may not be appropriate for people with schizophrenia experiencing more acute symptomatology excluding them from treatment. Dance/movement therapy (DMT) is an embodied psychotherapeutic treatment option that can support participants in improving mind-body connection, social relationships, and self-regulatory skill development. Research on DMT has shown promising results for people with schizophrenia, however such research is limited and would benefit from increased studies that particularly measure the effects of DMT on mind-body connection and increased interoception for people with schizophrenia. Moreover, integrative and collaborative treatment models that couple DMT and biofeedback may further our understanding of the physiological and neurological effects of DMT interventions for people with schizophrenia and beyond. This review will examine the recent literature on health inequities for people with schizophrenia, their specific body-based disruptions and needs, and DMT as a promising treatment model, particularly when coupled with biofeedback.
