It is now widely recognised that Medea's last words in her elegiac letter to Jason, Heroides 12, combine the terrible foreshadowing of infanticide with a telling metapoetic signature:quo feret ira, sequar! facti fortasse pigebit;et piget infido consuluisse uiro.uiderit ista deus, qui nunc mea pectora uersat!nescioquid certe mens mea maius agit.(Ov. Her. 12.209-12)Where my anger leads, I'll follow. Perhaps I'll regret my deed—as I regret the attention I paid to my faithless husband.Be that the concern of the god who now goads my breast!Certainly, something greater is stirring in my mind!Ovid positions Heroides 12 as ‘a “prequel” to his own Medea-tragedy’, that maius opus which notionally provides Medea with an appropriate generic setting in which to exact her revenge; elegy is too light a medium to bear the weight of so tragic a denouement. Heroides 12 thus concludes by adapting itself to the contours of the larger Ovidian career—a career in which he was to revisit the Medea-theme for the third time in Metamorphoses 7. There, her life-story is selectively told from the beginning of the Argonautic voyage and Medea's first infatuation with Jason to her magical intervention in his gaining of the golden fleece (1-158); from her rejuvenation of Jason's father, Aeson, to the dastardly way in which she induces the daughters of Pelias, Aeson's half-brother, to murder their father (159-349); and from the briefly told murder of her children at Corinth to her marriage to Aegeus and the attempted murder of Theseus, his son, at Athens (394-423). At this point Medea takes flight once more (424; cf. 350-93, in the wake of Pelias' murder) and disappears from the Metamorphoses for good—or, we might imagine, for yet more evil to be worked.

After 11 mo in the laboratory, significantly more sea lamprey, Petromyzon marinus, larvae from the Chippewa River, Michigan, metamorphosed in an ambient temperature regime (3 ± 2 animals∙tank−1) compared with a fixed 21 °C temperature (0 animals); photoperiod and food deprivation did not have detectable effects on the incidence of metamorphosis. Metamorphosing animals in our laboratory study were significantly smaller in size (length and weight) and had a lower condition factor (CF) than animals from the same population that metamorphosed a year earlier under field and shorter term laboratory conditions. We also predicted, using criteria of 120 mm, 3.0 g, and a CF of 1.50, that 12 and 14% of the animals in the ambient and fixed temperature regimes, respectively, would metamorphose. Our prediction for the ambient temperature did not differ significantly from observed (11%). We suggest that larvae in landlocked populations of sea lamprey that are at least 120 mm long, weigh 3.0 g, and have a CF of 1.50 or greater in the fall can be predicted to metamorphose the following summer. Furthermore, our data show that low temperature during the winter followed by rising temperature in the spring is the primary environmental cue initiating metamorphosis in sea lamprey.

Medea fascinated Ovid more than any other female mythical figure. She features in the Ars Amatoria (1.336; 2.381–2), the Heroides (6.75, 127–8, 151; 12 passim; 17.229, 233), the Metamorphoses (7.1–424), and the Tristia (3.9). Ovid also composed a tragedy called Medea (Am. 2.18.13–16; Tr. 2.553–4), which unfortunately has not survived.1 In the Remedia amoris Medea is mentioned in a list of mythical men and women who would have been cured of their torturing love passion, if Ovid had been their praeceptor. Medea is not named, but the identification is obvious (Rem. am. 59–60): nec dolor armasset contra sua viscera matrem, / quae socii damno sanguinis ulta virum est (‘Nor would a mother's vengeance on her husband / have steeled her heart to slay their progeny’).

AbstractThis essay discusses Ovid's poetic rendition of Hellenistic astronomy in the Phaethon myth. In Met. 2.63-75 Sol presents his diurnal and annual movements as separate, but the first instruction (127-8) to his son in his second speech refers to the υπολειψις-theory; so far Ovid has followed Geminus Isag. 12. Met. 2.129-33 telescopes the Milky Way (via quinque per arcus) and the ecliptic together, the sectus in obliquum limes zonarumque trium contentus fine reflecting the Aratean system of three imaginary circles connected by means of the fourth (Phaen. 526 ο δε τετρατος) circle, the ecliptic; Nonnus D. 38.256-9 points in the same direction. In the last instruction utrumque (Met. 2.140) refers to the Tropics of Cancer and Capricorn. In 2.116 I adopt quam, the reading of Par F (Tarrant, OCT 2004), instead of quem, thus making Aurora the subject of petere terras, which makes excellent sense since she carries the passage Met. 2.112-44. In late Antiquity both Nonnus (D. 38.424-5) and Claudian (VI. Cons. Hon. 172) catasterise Phaethon into Auriga; this paper offers some fresh viewpoints, based on e.g. Ov. Am. 3.12.31, 37 and Hyginus Astr. 2.42.1324-7, that could defend the presence of Phaethon's catasterismus in the Metamorphoses.

The article discusses the approach to modeling of metamorphoses in the development of a number of species in the context of their influence on the success of long-term trends of population dynamics. Changes in survival during early ontogenesis, controlled by important factor – the rate of individual development in a competing group of individuals, can cause unexpected degradation of population with a small excess fishing impact. The theory of nonlinear efficiency of reproduction leads us to the hypothesis that two different nonlinear effects are controlled by similar mechanisms. For insects such fluctuations in survival during metamorphosis can start another process - the rapid outbreak of pests, where actual formalization of the impact of parasites on the first stage of development, depending on the initial concentration of clutches, but limited resources is taken into account at a finishing. The method has been for submission to decline of generations on the basis of dynamic overriding differential equations with discrete-continuous structure of time. To extend the previously proposed model for the formation of generations is formed computing structure for the account mortality depending on the level of competition, complete with trigger functional and a new scheme describing the changes the growth rate for the example of the Caspian Sea sturgeon in three ecological and physiological stages of development. The new model has a non-trivial possibilities parametrically modification of behavior regimes. The coexistence of alternative cycles is explained by the increase in adaptive interspecies differences.

Abstract: This article investigates the presence of Amazonian imagery in Statius' Achilleid . It begins by uncovering intertexts to Aeneid 1 in the arrival of Ulysses and Diomedes on Scyros ( Ach . 1.726–58), which create a layer of erotic tension that is vital for the interpretation of the ensuing simile comparing Achilles, Deidamia, and Lycomedes' daughters with Amazons ( Ach . 1.758–60). A comprehensive analysis of the simile allows a re-examination of Statius' echoes to the portrayals of Hippolyte and Theseus in Thebaid 12, and draws attention to previously unnoticed parallels with Virgil's Aeneid . The final section of the article examines the broader context of the Amazon simile, eliciting intertextual points of contact with Ovid's Metamorphoses 7 and Valerius Flaccus' Argonautica 5, emphasising in particular the importance of the underlying recruitment theme. Statius' deployment of Amazonian imagery in the Achilleid is seen to be intrinsically tied to the poem's gender fluidity, and the poet's innovative narrative technique.

ABSTRACT Introduction: The deadly pandemic COVID-19 has brought the world to a standstill. Due to worldwide lockdown, economy was severely compromised. Everyone was in fear of the consequences that would be faced. Many unprecedented changes happened because of this pandemic. People confined themselves at home to maintain social distancing and mitigation of risk factors. This posed many challenges to the individuals or work force with, and many times the work was compromised. Objectives: To explore the current and changes in work pattern and to assess the overall quality of life of professionals working from home. Materials and Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted by circulating a structured questionnaire through online platform. A snowball sampling method was adopted. Totally, 520 respondents participated in this study. Results: Out of 520 participants, males accounted for 57.9% and 41.3% were females. Majority (45.8% males and 40.9% females) were engaged in the software or IT companies. A higher proportion of males were engaged in administration (6%), architecture (10%) and transportation (5.3%) sector, whereas more females were engaged in finance (10.7%) and law (3.3%) sector. 73.1% males worked for more than 12 hours a day in contrast to only 26.9% of females. As the working hours are reducing, the overall quality of life of the participants was increasing significantly with P = 0.008. For those with moderately increased work-life balance, near about half of the participants had overall quality of life between 50 and 75% (P < 0.001). Conclusions: In order to increase efficiency at work place, definite laws should be in place to protect the mental as well as overall well-being of professionals working from home. Elaborative research in this field is required in order to generalize the results.

Streszczenie:
Spiny lobsters have a protracted pelagic, oceanic larval phase. The final larval stage metamorphoses into a non-feeding postlarva (puerulus) that actively swims towards the coast to settle in shallow habitats and does not resume feeding until after the molt into the first-stage juvenile. Therefore, the body dimensions and nutritional condition of both settled pueruli and first juveniles are likely to vary over time, potentially playing a crucial role in the recruitment to the benthic population. We compared carapace length (CL), height (CH), and width (CW); total length (TL), and body weight (W) between pueruli and first juveniles of the Caribbean spiny lobster, Panulirus argus, as well as morphometric relationships between both developmental stages. Except for CL, all other dimensions were larger in first juveniles, but more markedly CH and W. The slopes of the CH vs CL, CW vs CL, and W vs CL regressions differed significantly between stages, and all log-transformed relationships showed isometry in both stages, except for the CH vs CL relationship, which showed positive allometry. These results reflect a morphological change from the flatter, more streamlined body of the puerulus, to the heavier, more cylindrical body of the juvenile. We also analyzed seasonal variations in CL, W, the W/CL index (a morphometric condition index), and a modified W/CL index (i.e. after controlling for a significant effect of CL) of both stages using individuals monthly collected over 12 consecutive seasons (Autumn 2010–Summer 2013). In both stages, all three variables exhibited significant seasonal variation. For pueruli, the modified W/CL index differed from average in only two seasons, winter 2011 (higher) and summer 2013 (lower), but showed great within-season variation (larger coefficients of variation, CV), potentially reflecting variability in nutritional condition of larvae prior to metamorphosis and in the distances swum by individual pueruli to the settlement habitats. For first juveniles, the modified W/CL index was higher than average in winter and spring 2011, and lower in autumn 2011 and winter 2012, but showed less within season variation (smaller CVs), suggesting a combination of carry-over effects of puerulus condition and effects of local conditions (e.g., food availability and predation risk). These findings warrant further investigation into factors potentially decoupling settlement from recruitment processes.

The article provides an overview of the conference “American and Russian Poetries. Links and Circulations”. The conference was held at the University of Toulouse from June 2 to June 5, 2021, virtually and was organized by Americanists, professors at the University of Toulouse, D. Rumeau and C. Gheerardyn. The conference attracted scholars from the USA, France, Israel, Russia (including scholars from Lomonosov Moscow State University Lomonosov, the Institute of Linguistics of the Russian Academy of Sciences, etc.). During the conference, a number of papers touched upon the issues of reception and “transfer” between poetic cultures. These papers would concern not so much a passive “transfer” of a literary phenomenon from one culture to another, but rather an active process of transferring, or transcoding the phenomenon through an intertext already existing in another culture. Apart from topics related to issues of reception and metamorphoses of cultural translation, during the conference, the contrast between Russian and American poetic traditions was questioned as a contrast between the tradition of “expression”, psychologism, and the tradition of “description”, a formal experiment. This opposition was coined by the Imagist poet J. Cournos, a Russian émigré, also known as Ioan Grigor’yevich Korshun. A number of speakers disputed the rigid division of Kurnos, drawing attention to (1) the similarity of conceptual schemes for comprehending experience in the poems of Russian and American poets, (2) a formal experiment in Russian futurism and the development of a theoretical vocabulary for describing form in Russian formalism, (3) the influence of Russian futurism on the American neo-avant-garde. The influence of Russian futurism and Russian formalism on American poetry was traced on the example of the Language School phenomenon.

This scientific article covers the issue of taxation of economic activity of economic entities in Ukraine under martial law. Theoretical and practical interest in the study of the problems of legal support of taxation of economic activity of economic entities in Ukraine under martial law is primarily related to social, economic and geopolitical metamorphoses occurring in the world in recent years. In the current realities of Ukraine, it faces a number of issues, the solution of which is directly related to the identification and analysis of sources of real and potential threats to business entities under martial law. A significant number of global threats require the creation of special administrative and legal mechanisms for regulating public relations that arise in emergencies of military, social, man-made and natural nature. The purpose of this article is to study certain forms of taxation of economic activity of economic entities in Ukraine under martial law. The authors conclude that the business has continued to pay taxes to the state budget and even pays them in advance. In February 2022, the general fund of the state budget received UAH 104.6 billion (overfulfillment of the monthly schedule by 29.3%, or UAH 23.7 billion). With the planned deficit of UAH 66.2 billion in the first two months of 2022, the general fund surplus amounted to UAH 13.1 billion, and the state budget of Ukraine as a whole - UAH 24 billion; The NBU promptly transferred part of the profits for distribution in the amount of almost UAH 19 billion to the state budget of Ukraine to finance the functioning of the state under martial law; Thus, the continuous deregulation of business and the introduction of tax benefits is the only way for the effective functioning of the economy, the normal conduct of economic activity by economic entities in a state of war. In addition, a number of adopted changes are already demonstrating their effectiveness.

In this study, the effects of environmental variables on larval metamorphosis of the solitary ascidianCiona savignyiwere investigated in a laboratory setting. The progression of metamorphic changes were tracked under various temperature, photoperiod, substrate, larval density, and vessel size regimes. Metamorphosis was maximised at 18 °C, 12:12 h subdued light:dark, smooth polystyrene substrate, and 10 larvae mL−1in a twelve-well tissue culture plate. Eliminating the air-water interface by filling culture vessels to capacity further increased the proportion of metamorphosed larvae; 87 ± 5% of larvae completed metamorphosis within 5 days compared to 45 ± 5% in control wells. The effects of the reference antifouling compounds polygodial, portimine, oroidin, chlorothalonil, and tolylfluanid onC. savignyiwere subsequently determined, highlighting (1) the sensitivity ofC. savignyimetamorphosis to chemical exposure and (2) the potential to useC. savignyilarvae to screen for bioactivity in an optimised laboratory setting. The compounds were bioactive in the low ng mL−1to high µg mL−1range. Polygodial was chosen for additional investigations, where it was shown that mean reductions in the proportions of larvae reaching stage E were highly repeatable both within (repeatability = 14 ± 9%) and between (intermediate precision = 17 ± 3%) independent experiments. An environmental extract had no effect on the larvae but exposing larvae to both the extract and polygodial reduced potency relative to polygodial alone. This change in potency stresses the need for caution when working with complex samples, as is routinely implemented when isolating natural compounds from their biological source. Overall, the outcomes of this study highlight the sensitivity ofC. savignyimetamorphosis to environmental variations and chemical exposure.

Lampreys are the most basal vertebrates with an osmoregulatory strategy. Previous research has established that the salinity tolerance of sea lamprey increases dramatically during metamorphosis, but underlying changes in the gut have not been examined. In the present work, we examined changes in intestinal function during metamorphosis and seawater exposure of sea lamprey ( Petromyzon marinus). Fully metamorphosed juvenile sea lamprey had 100% survival after direct exposure to 35 parts per thousand seawater (SW) and only slight elevations in plasma chloride (Cl−) levels. Drinking rates of sea lamprey juveniles in seawater were 26-fold higher than juveniles in freshwater (FW). Na+-K+-ATPase (NKA) activity in the anterior and posterior intestine increased 12- and 3-fold, respectively, during metamorphosis, whereas esophageal NKA activity was lower than in the intestine and did not change with development. Acclimation to SW significantly enhanced NKA activity in the posterior intestine but did not significantly change NKA activity in the anterior intestine, which remained higher than that in the posterior intestine. Intestinal Cl− and water uptake, which were observed in ex vivo preparations of anterior and posterior intestine under both symmetric and asymmetric conditions, were higher in juveniles than in larvae and were similar in magnitude of those of teleost fish. Inhibition of NKA by ouabain in ex vivo preparations inhibited intestinal water absorption by 64%. Our results indicate drinking and intestinal ion and water absorption are important to osmoregulation in SW and that preparatory increases in intestinal NKA activity are important to the development of salinity tolerance that occurs during sea lamprey metamorphosis.

In accordance with the homeopathic idea of effects of specially prepared dilutions being inverse to those of their mother substances, animals were treated either with thyroxin 10-11–10-21or analogously prepared blank solution (water). Development was monitored by documenting the number of animals that had entered the four-legged stage. It has been found that animals treated with the thyroxin solutions metamorphosed more slowly than the control animals, i.e., the effect of the homeopathically prepared thyroxin was opposed to the usual effect of molecular thyroxin. The number of test animals that reached the four-legged stage at defined points in time was smaller (2–13.5%) in the group treated with homeopathically prepared thyroxin at the points in time, compared to control. The results in this study sustain the previous multiresearcher findings that show that diluted homeopathically prepared thyroxin is able to slow down metamorphosis ofR. temporaria.

Once a few test cases – and most Court cases fail – do result in substantial financial awards, the precedent is likely to set the ball rolling. Some members of the legal profession are posed to take up the gauntlet, be the plea, justifiable or not proportionate to the outcome. In the presence of a situation which is suspicious or suggestive of Cerebral Palsy (diagnosis is done within about 12 months from birth) benumbs and throws the unfortunate parents into an unexpected maelstrom of terrifying emotions and worries. The zenith of happiness cruelly metamorphoses into the nadir of despair. Cerebral Palsy (CP) is the commonest disorder of movement in children¹, and, generally speaking (with much local variation) it occurs in about 2.1 per 1,000 live births².It would be grossly abnormal for such parents, not to ask questions. These questions, increasingly being asked in a Court of Law where obstetric liability. The purpose of this paper is to show a firm affirmation that the correct instruments of science be recognised, both clinically and medico-legally in cases of CP. It is an attack on those aspects of the juridical procedure, during which scientific facts fly in the face of contemporary science.

Streszczenie:
The scientifi c fi eld of the problem «folklore and composer» has a lot of aspects of its subject manifestation. One of them is the creative heritage of L. van Beethoven in the context of the composer’s addressing the folk song sources and analysis of the author’s arrangement. Although the selected theme is not a scientifi c discovery, it contains signifi cant prospects. These include: the expansion of a well-known typology of the folklore embodiment in the author’s work, the search and discovery of the Beethoven’s method of folklore arrangement, which in its turn complements the context of the already existing “psychogram of the artist” (see Varnava’s thesis, for more details). In addition, the chosen theme will help to expand the idea of musical and cultural life development in the early 19th century Objectives. The paper will consider and analyze, fi rstly, the history of writing and the subsequent fate of the author’s Ukrainian song «Ikhav Kozak za Dunaj» in European culture at the end of the eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries; secondly, harmonization of I. Prach from the «Collection of Folk Russian Songs with their voices set to music by Ivan Prach» as the one that could be known to the German master; thirdly, L. van Beethoven’s vocal-instrumental arrangement of this song in the collection «The Songs of Different Peoples» – No. 19 «Air Cosaque». Methods. The methods applied in this work are hermeneutic, structural, historiographical and genre-stylistic. The historiographical method in the article represents the problem of «composer and folklore». Hermeneutic method is universal, and its task is to interpret texts and understand their meanings. The use of the structural method is necessary for simultaneous presentation of the whole, its parts and their interaction with each other. The systematic use of the above-mentioned methods will help to enrich the analytical part and reveal genre-stylistic metamorphoses in the Ukrainian song arrangement. Results. The results of the analytical part are as follows. As the article says, the Ukrainian song «Ikhav Kozak za Dunaj» was taken by L. Van Beethoven from the Russian collection «Folk Russian Songs with their voices set to music by Ivan Prach». So, we think it is necessary to make its thorough analysis. I. Prach’s arrangement (harmonizer and arranger of this collection) is a four-voice harmonization of the Ukrainian melody. In general, the harmonic sequence in the arrangement consists of quarto-quintal basses in the left hand and chords of main degrees in the right hand. Harmonious peculiarities of the song are directly interconnected with the rhythmic component of the work, both musical and verbal. The well-known content of the song (the Cossack sets off on the horse beyond the Danube leaving his girlfriend) contains the rhythm of the pace (in this case, this is the horse’s pace), which leads to the appearance of a uniformly accented rhythm in the song – the entire melody of the song moves in eighths. In addition, piano accompaniment in the right hand part echoes the main melody, and all its structure in the form of two-voice texture moves in eighths, too. L. van Beethoven goes in the opposite direction. The process of musical arrangement occurs at all levels of musical content – from the intonation through composition to the dramaturgy. The German composer’s arrangement features phrasing slurs in violin, piano, rarely cello parts; dynamic markings, including piano, pianissimo, crescendo, diminuendo. Besides, in the cello part we fi nd the composer’s remarks on the methods of sound production, such as alternating between pizzicato and arco (as a return to the main method). Then the German master creates a great instrumental part for the song – introduction and conclusion. The introduction of a non-square, monolithic structure has an unfi nished character and ends with a dominant harmony before the basic a-moll tonality. The fourth stanza is complemented with a three-bar expansion (instrumental break) on the introduction material, but it is a bit modifi ed – it is a pattern in the form of three subsequent segments of the descending motion (melodic and harmonic complex). This addition is made in the form of instrumental breaks after imperfect cadence, and after that come 12 bars of trio-conclusion. In general, the form of the song is a long period of two sentences of the verse-chorus structure a – C – a (a tonal plan). The instrumental part of the song makes up 29 bars, and the vocal one – 16 bars, so the proportions are actually closer to the defi nition of 2:1, which indicates a signifi cant role of the trio-accompanient (46 bars overall). The thorough analysis of the instrumental part of the whole song reveals the following: the arrangement has fi ve motifs and thematic elements, three of which belong to L. van Beethoven: «E – F – E» lamenting motif, quarto-quintal response to it – «E - A – B» or «E - B – C», and the last one, which gets its development at the end of the fi nal part of the trio accompaniment in somewhat varied form (melodic variation): «Gsharp - A – G» and the response «G-sharp - A – D». The other two – melodic pattern «E – G-sharp - E – G-sharp» (pedaling of the dominant function) and descending tetrachord between the third and seventh ascending degrees («C - A – G-sharp») – belong to the author of the Ukrainian song Semen Klymovsky. These motives are combined into dialogical formulas. This can be explained by the content of the song lyrics, where there are several characters, who the Cossack addresses in a virtual dialogue – this is his girl, and also his true companion – the horse. A deeper dialogue can be seen in the combination of classical and folk arts. Adding professional academic means of musical expression to the song the composer enriches his piece with classical stylistic attributes. When he elaborates genre features of lament in the song, he turns the Ukrainian song into a kind of arioso in German language. Conclusions. L. van Beethoven’s arrangement was primarily intended for homemade music, but at the same time, it is imbued with features of classical style, and its elegy, intense sensory lyricism refer the researcher to the Romantic period, which turned out to be close to the consciousness of the Beethoven’s genius. However, the nature of the fi ndings remains open, because the theme «Beethoven and folklore» is the subject of further research. In addition, special attention should be paid to other arrangements of the song «Ikhav Kozak za Dunaj», created both by L. van Beethoven and his contemporaries.

We tested the effects of ultraviolet-a (uv-a) and ultraviolet-b (uv-b) radiation on life-history stages of the anurans Bufo americanus, Hyla versicolor, Rana clamitans, and Rana sylvatica. No effect of uv-a was found on eggs or larvae even at exposures twice the intensity of normal outdoor levels. Only R. sylvatica was tested in the embryo stage. All embryos exposed to 30 min or more of artificially high intensity uv-b died. After exposure to artificially high intensity uv-b of 15 min or less, or at ecologically relevant levels, there was no effect on hatching success. The proportion of abnormal embryos after exposure to 10 or 15 min of artificially high intensity treatment was higher at 12 °C than at 20 °C. The jelly surrounding the ova can effectively reduce uv-b transmission through the egg mass. Of the four species tested, only larval R. clamitans showed some tolerance of artificially high uv-b levels, but development of the survivors was arrested and metamorphosis was not initiated. Ecologically relevant doses of uv-b had no effect on developmental period, duration of metamorphic climax, or mass at metamorphosis in B. americanus, H. versicolor, or R. sylvatica. Whereas all metamorphosed juvenile R. clamitans and R. sylvatica died after exposure to high-intensity uv-b, some B. americanus survived. Older B. americanus exposed for the same length of time had higher survivorship than younger animals. The role of uv radiation in presumed amphibian population declines is discussed.

Purpose This paper aims to conceptualize what it means to be resilient in the face of our current reality of indisputable turbulence and uncertainty, suggest that continual metamorphosis is key to resilience, demonstrate the role of unlearning in that metamorphosis and suggest that problem formulation is a key deliberate mechanism of driving continual cycles of learning and unlearning. Design/methodology/approach The paper entails a conceptual analysis. Findings It is found that both the unlearning and resilience literature streams are stuck in a paradigm whereby organizational behavior entails adaptation to the external environment and reaction to crisis. This paper suggests that, given a world of turbulence and uncertainty, a more useful paradigm is one where organizations take action before action is desperately needed, and that they proactively contribute to enacting their environment via their own continual metamorphosis. Research limitations/implications Future research should explore further the factors that can facilitate sensing the early warning signs, and facilitate the cyclical learning–unlearning process of metamorphosis. Practical implications The primary practical implication is that to ensure strategic resilience, managers must be able to identify early warning signs and initiate metamorphosis. This means understanding the processes needed to support unlearning, namely, problem formulation. Originality/value The originality and value of the present paper lies in that it suggests a shift in paradigm from adaptation and reaction, to action and enactment. Further, it proposes a cyclical process of learning and unlearning that together define periods of metamorphosis, and suggests problem formulation, whereby the mission statement is assessed and revised, as a mechanism in that endeavor.

Some components of crime prevention strategies are a thing of the past, others have undergone significant metamorphoses, and still others have emerged in the last ten years, but in general the state and dynamics of crime as a result of the evolving model of preventive criminal policy and law enforcement remain stable. certain parameters that characterize modern crime, "suddenly" change the course (annual "minuses" are replaced by "pluses" and vice versa) and such fluctuations are sporadic. The mention of the "surprise" of such changes is primarily due to the fact that all these years in the United States there is an annual and significant increase in population, which for obvious reasons changes the crime rates (levels) in general and its types. The article is devoted to the problem of objective assessment of crime in the United States and the interpretation of the changes - absolute and relative indicators at a particular time. The indicators of crime in the USA are investigated; statistical data are presented; the structure and prevalence of crime is described. Criminal statistics data in the United States draw a meaningful and informative, but largely diagnostic picture of the phenomenon of modern crime in this country. The presented data of criminal statistics point to the prospect for more detailed, including comparative criminological research with the obligatory account of the requirements for the comparability of certain national indicators of crime statistics. The prevalence of homicide in any country has been found to be the most common and visible indicator of crime. In general, it should be noted that in absolute terms, the prevalence of homicides in the United States, as in several other countries, has remained quite stable for many years. Note that stable prevalence is generally one of the characteristics of this category of crimes. In Japan, for example, in the past 12 to 15 years, the number of murders has decreased annually by only a few (no more than 10 to 12) statistical units. From this point of view, the rapid rate of decline in the number of murders in Ukraine does not look at all convincing, as many studies of domestic criminologists have long and quite clearly indicated. As can be seen from the above data, the dynamics of relative homicide rates in the United States are outwardly less distinct, since, as noted, it is offset by annual and very significant population growth (over the past three years, it has grown by 7 million people).

ABSTRACTVertebrate metamorphosis is often marked by dramatic morphological and physiological changes of the alimentary tract, along with major shifts in diet following development from larva to adult. Little is known about how these developmental changes impact the gut microbiome of the host organism. The metamorphosis of the sea lamprey (Petromyzon marinus) from a sedentary filter-feeding larva to a free-swimming sanguivorous parasite is characterized by major physiological and morphological changes to all organ systems. The transformation of the alimentary canal includes closure of the larval esophagus and the physical isolation of the pharynx from the remainder of the gut, which results in a nonfeeding period that can last up to 8 months. To determine how the gut microbiome is affected by metamorphosis, the microbial communities of feeding and nonfeeding larval and parasitic sea lamprey were surveyed using both culture-dependent and -independent methods. Our results show that the gut of the filter-feeding larva contains a greater diversity of bacteria than that of the blood-feeding parasite, with the parasite gut being dominated byAeromonasand, to a lesser extent,CitrobacterandShewanella. Phylogenetic analysis of the culturableAeromonasfrom both the larval and parasitic gut revealed that at least five distinct species were represented. Phenotypic characterization of these isolates revealed that over half were capable of sheep red blood cell hemolysis, but all were capable of trout red blood cell hemolysis. This suggests that the enrichment ofAeromonasthat accompanies metamorphosis is likely related to the sanguivorous lifestyle of the parasitic sea lamprey.

AbstractAnimals with biphasic lifecycles often inhabit different visual environments across ontogeny. Many frogs and toads (Amphibia: Anura) have free-living aquatic larvae (tadpoles) that metamorphose into adults that inhabit a range of aquatic and terrestrial environments. Ecological differences influence eye size across species, but these relationships have not yet been explored across life stages in an ontogenetic allometric context. We examined eye-body size scaling in a species with aquatic larvae and terrestrial adults, the common frog Rana temporaria, using a well-sampled developmental series. We found a shift in ontogenetic allometric trajectory near metamorphosis indicating prioritized growth in tadpole eyes. To explore the effects of different tadpole and adult ecologies on eye-body scaling, we expanded our taxonomic sampling to include developmental series of eleven additional anuran species. Intraspecific eye-body scaling was variable among species, with 8/12 species exhibiting a significant change in allometric slope between tadpoles and adults. Traits categorizing both tadpole ecology (microhabitat, eye position, mouth position) and adult ecology (habitat, activity pattern) across species had significant effects on allometric slopes among tadpoles, but only tadpole eye position had a significant effect among adults. Our study suggests that relative eye growth in the preliminary stages of biphasic anuran ontogenies is somewhat decoupled and may be shaped by both immediate ecological need (i.e. tadpole visual requirements) and what will be advantageous during later adult stages.

Salinity of 16% sw significantly decreased survival of tadpoles such that 39% of tadpoles in 16% sw treatment survived to metamorphosis compared with 92% in the control group (freshwater). Growth (mass) of 16% sw tadpoles (0.048 g ± 0.005 g) slowed significantly during early development compared with control tadpoles (0.105 g ± 0.004 g); however, there was no significant difference in final metamorphosis mass between 16% sw (0.192 g ± 0.008 g) and control tadpoles (0.226 ± 0.006 g). Time taken to reach metamorphosis was greater for 16% sw tadpoles (84 ± 1.8 days) than for control tadpoles (55 ± 0.84 days). Tadpoles at salinity concentrations of 4% sw, 8% sw and 12% sw were significantly heavier than control tadpoles at metamorphosis. Our results show that moderate levels of salinity (16% sw) are sufficient to significantly reduce survival and retard development of tadpoles of L. ewingii.

Temperature affects the duration of embryonic and larval periods in amphibians. Plasticity in time to metamorphosis is especially important in amphibian populations of Mediterranean semi-arid zones where temperatures are high and precipitation is low, increasing the rate of pond desiccation. In order to test the influence of water temperature on the larval development and growth of the natterjack toad (Bufo calamita), we collected two spawns in a semi¿arid zone at Balaguer (Lleida, NE Iberian peninsula). Approximately 50 (+/-10) eggs (stage 14-16) were raised in the lab at different temperature conditions: 10, 15, 20, 22.5 and 25ºC with 12:12 photoperiod. The results show a lengthening of development time with decreasing temperatures and a better survival performance of B. calamita to high temperatures. However, mean size at metamorphosis was not different across treatments, thus, suggesting that this population of B. calamita requires a minimum size to complete the metamorphosis. This study is the first approach to examine the effects that climatic factors have on the growth and development of B. calamita in semi-arid zones.

Class II major histocompatibility complex (MHC) antigens are expressed predominantly on B lymphocytes and macrophages of tadpoles of the South African clawed frog,Xenopus laevis, as is the pattern in lymphocyte populations of most mammals. However, unlike most mammals, young postmetamorphic frogs show expression of class II MHC antigens on a high proportion of thymocytes and most peripheral T and B lymphocytes. Using the J-strain ofXenopusand the anticlass II monoclonal antibody, 14A2, we have studied, by indirect immunofluorescence, whether inhibition of metamorphosis would alter the pattern of expression of class II antigens during ontogeny. In control animals, class II antigens were virtually absent from thymic lymphocytes and peripheral T cells of normal untreated larvae, but could be found in increasing numbers in both populations after metamorphosis (10-12 weeks of age). In contrast, larvae, whose metamorphosis was inhibited by treatment with sodium perchlorate, had relatively few class II+thymic lymphocytes throughout the 6-month period of study, and the proportion of class II+splenic lymphocytes was approximately equal to that of IgM+B lymphocytes. Thus, perchlorate-treated animals retained the larval pattern of class II epression, suggesting that emergence of class II+T cells is dependent on metamorphosis.

It so happens that rocks of Vendian age are extensive and are well exposed in Svalbard. This applies especially to early Vendian, i.e. Varanger, with two distinctive glacial horizons as are treated in the Chapter 13. The Early Varanger (Smalfjord) episode can be correlated in most sections and so provides a reference horizon which serves approximately to identify pre-Varanger rocks. The pre-Vendian rocks have yet to show such good correlation characters. Therefore in Svalbard it is convenient to consider pre-Vendian successions together. Their distribution is shown in the map (Fig. 12.1).Some pre-Vendian sequences are punctuated by unconformities. Moreover, the sequences contain both high-grade metamorphosed and highly deformed rocks as well as undeformed fossiliferous strata. Therefore it is of interest to determine any Preeambrian diastroph-ism and even tectonothermal events. The term proto-basement was introduced (Harland 1997) to distinguish a Preeambrian basement, that formed in (say) Proterozoic time, from the ubiquitous basement formed by Early to mid Paleozoic tectogenesis, but made largely of Preeambrian rocks. It is to distinguish proto-basement within the basement underlying Devonian and Carboniferous strata. Proto-basement from such a study (structural, stratigraphic, isotopic) is shown in darker ornament in Fig. 12.1 and discussed in Section 12.3.Were the spatial relationships between these localities originally as now, intense tectonism, metamorphism and magmatism would suggest a division of Preeambrian history in Svalbard by such events. Fish metamorphosis is an important ontogenetic process with a key role on early stages survival and on successful recruitment to adult populations. The whitemouth croaker (Micropogonias furnieri) is an important commercial resource for the coastal fisheries of Argentina and Uruguay. Metamorphosis, using morphometric and morphological analyses during larval development was studied. Changes in morpho-meristic characters before and after metamorphosis were employed to determine the length interval of this transition by employing Principal Component Analysis. Individuals (n=430) from 4 to 41 mm standard length (SL) were collected in the Río de la Plata estuary (35.45º S, 56.35º W) in March 2006. Length ranges of individual´s developmental stages were associated with the presence of key morphological characters. During early life stages, M. furnieri changes from a big-headed, robust shape larva to a slender and more elongated body form. Most of the morphometric variables showed an inflexion point at 15.2 mm SL, with a 95% confidence interval of 14.0 – 16.4 mm. The anterior part of the body grows faster during early stages, probably related to an intense feeding activity strategy. The completion of pectoral fin rays and the onset of squamation determine the beginning of metamorphosis at 11-12 mm SL. At around 18 mm SL, squamation ends, first barbels develop and the sagittae otolith primordium is closed. The length-at-metamorphosis for M. furnieri was established between 9 to 18 mm SL, since all developmental characters studied highly overlapped at that interval. All those processes are indicative of the beginning of the juvenile period associated to the settlement and the start of a bottom-oriented life-style.

Abstract High levels of contamination in the aquatic environment and wildlife within the Ontario portion of the St. Lawrence River at the Cornwall Area of Concern (AOC) have raised questions about potential impacts on wildlife health. Northern leopard frog embryos were raised in two wetland sites within the AOC and at two reference sites to assess differences in water and sediment quality on survivorship and deformity rates. Chlorinated hydrocarbons (total polychlorinated biphenyls, organochlorine pesticides), polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, nutrients and heavy metals were measured in sediment and/or water from the study sites. Levels of some metals such as aluminium, cadmium, chromium and copper, exceeded federal and provincial guidelines for the protection of aquatic life, especially in the two AOC wetlands. Early stage tadpole survivorship was significantly lower and deformity frequency significantly higher at wetlands within the AOC; however, differences were likely not biologically significant. Survivorship and deformity rates of leopard frogs (Rana pipiens) at metamorphosis did not differ significantly among sites. Onset of metamorphosis was accelerated in tadpoles raised in wetlands within the AOC. Tadpoles raised in wetlands within the St. Lawrence River AOC took significantly less time to complete metamorphosis (53–55 days) than did tadpoles raised at reference sites (61–64 days). The phenology of metamorphosis was also more synchronous in tadpoles raised in the AOC, with all tadpoles reaching metamorphosis within a space of 3 to 7 days, as compared to 9 to 12 days at reference wetlands; these differences could not be accounted for by water temperature. Differences in development and survivorship rates between AOC and reference sites may be related to contaminant concentrations in water and sediment. However, no strong evidence for beneficial use impairment in terms of reproductive impairments or elevated deformity rates were seen from caged leopard frogs in the two AOC wetlands.

The purpose of this study is to analyze the creation of the universe with the Dynic Paradigm according to the R12 Metamorphosis Reproduction (Metamorep) Theory in the 6 stages of the Covid economic era. The theory of R12 metamorphosis is based on the formula R12 and the Metamorphosis pattern. R12 is the Roikhan-12 formula that develops the Initial Edge Concept. The Metamorphosis Pattern is found in the changes in the Butterfly from the beginning. The Dynic Paradigm refers to the content of the scriptures according to truth and facts. This research was conducted in a desk study by collecting sources from scriptures, journals, books, and electronic media. The methodology used is Reflective Qualitative. The method used is metaphor and similarity. The result obtained is the Theory R12 Metamorphosis in the creation of the universe consists of 6 stages. This stage is a combination of the butterfly life cycle plus the creature's breeding cycle. It starts with 1 dot like an egg which contains high-density matter. Then there was a separation which was called the Early Edge Concept. Similar to this concept is the meaning of the Quran Surah Hid 11.114 which is interpreted as a separation from 1 solid dot into 2 parts, namely the edge of the universe's matter has 2 parts, and at the beginning of the universe's matter, there is 1 part in the caterpillar metaphor. Followed by the transformation into a Nebula with smoke covering the galaxy with the metaphor of a cocoon with the reflexivity of the universe praying. The last stage of Metamorphosis is the Butterfly which is represented in the form of the universe starting to develop at the beginning of its perfection. Two additional stages are before the reproductive period with the maturity level of the young universe. The last is the reproduction phase of the universe with a more mature maturity. The Dynic Paradigm is a solution for the development of the theory of the creation of the universe that combines existing theories with the contents of the holy book of the Covid economic era.

Drosophila imaginal discs undergo extensive pattern formation during larval development, resulting in each cell acquiring a specific adult fate. The final manifestation of this pattern into adult structures is dependent on pulses of the steroid hormone ecdysone during metamorphosis, which trigger disc eversion, elongation and differentiation. We have defined genetic criteria that allow us to screen for ecdysone-inducible regulatory genes that are required for this transformation from patterned disc to adult structure. We describe here the first genetic locus isolated using these criteria: crooked legs (crol). crol mutants die during pupal development with defects in adult head eversion and leg morphogenesis. The crol gene is induced by ecdysone during the onset of metamorphosis and encodes at least three protein isoforms that contain 12–18 C2H2 zinc fingers. Consistent with this sequence motif, crol mutations have stage-specific effects on ecdysone-regulated gene expression. The EcR ecdysone receptor, and the BR-C, E74 and E75 early regulatory genes, are submaximally induced in crol mutants in response to the prepupal ecdysone pulse. These changes in gene activity are consistent with the crol lethal phenotypes and provide a basis for understanding the molecular mechanisms of crol action. The genetic criteria described here provide a new direction for identifying regulators of adult tissue development during insect metamorphosis.

The influence of embryonic and larval temperature regime on muscle growth was investigated in Atlantic herring (Clupea harengus L.). Eggs of spring-spawning Clyde herring were incubated at 5 degrees C, 8 degrees C or 12 degrees C until hatching and then reared until after metamorphosis at rising temperatures to simulate a seasonal warming. Metamorphosis to the juvenile stage was complete at 37 mm total length (TL), after an estimated 177 days as a larva at 5 degrees C, 117 days at 8 degrees C and 101 days at 12 degrees C. Growth rate and the development of median fins were retarded in relation to body length at 5 degrees C compared with 8 degrees C and 12 degrees C. Between hatching (at 8-9 mm TL) and 16 mm TL, there was a threefold increase in total muscle cross-sectional area, largely due to the hypertrophy of the embryonic red and white muscle fibres. The recruitment of additional white muscle fibres started at approximately 15 mm TL at all temperatures, and by 37 mm was estimated to be 66 fibres day-1 at 5 degrees C and 103 fibres day-1 at 8 degrees C and 12 degrees C. Peptide mapping studies revealed a change in myosin heavy chain composition in white muscle fibres between 20 and 25 mm TL. Embryonic red muscle fibres expressed fast myosin light chains until 24-28 mm TL at 5 degrees C and 22 mm TL at 12 degrees C, and new red fibres were added at the horizontal septum starting at the same body lengths. Following metamorphosis, the total cross-sectional area of muscle was similar at different temperatures, although the number of red and white fibres per myotome was significantly greater at the warmest than at the coldest regime. For example, the mean number of white muscle fibres per myotome in 50 mm TL juveniles was calculated to be 23.4 % higher at 12 degrees C (12 065) than at 5 degrees C (9775). In other experiments, spring-spawning (Clyde) and autumn-spawning (Manx) herring were reared at different temperatures until first feeding and then transferred to ambient seawater temperature and fed ad libitum for constant periods. These experiments showed that, for both stocks, the temperature of embryonic development influenced the subsequent rate of muscle fibre recruitment and hypertrophy as well as the density of muscle nuclei. Labelling experiments with 5'-bromo-2-deoxyuridine showed that both the hypertrophy and recruitment of muscle fibres involved a rapidly proliferating population of myogenic precursor cells. The cellular mechanisms underlying the environmental modulation of muscle growth phenotype are discussed.

Abstract. In the Western Alps, the Penninic frontal thrust (PFT) is the main crustal-scale tectonic structure of the belt. This thrust transported the high-pressure metamorphosed internal units over the non-metamorphosed European margin during the Oligocene (34–29 Ma). Following the propagation of the compression toward the European foreland, the PFT was later reactivated as an extensional detachment associated with the development of the High Durance extensional fault system (HDFS). This inversion of tectonic displacement along a major tectonic structure has been widely emphasized as an example of extensional collapse of a thickened collisional orogen. However, the inception age of the extensional inversion remains unconstrained. Here, for the first time, we provide chronological constraints on the extensional motion of an exhumed zone of the PFT by applying U–Pb dating on secondary calcites from a fault zone cataclasite. The calcite cement and veins of the cataclasite formed after the main fault slip event, at 3.6 ± 0.4–3.4 ± 0.6 Ma. Cross-cutting calcite veins featuring the last fault activity are dated at 2.6 ± 0.3–2.3 ± 0.3 Ma. δ13C and δ18O fluid signatures derived from these secondary calcites suggest fluid percolation from deep-seated reservoir at the scale of the Western Alps. Our data provide evidence that the PFT extensional reactivation initiated at least ∼ 3.5 Myr ago with a reactivation phase at ∼ 2.5 Ma. This reactivation may result from the westward propagation of the compressional deformation toward the external Alps, combined with the exhumation of external crystalline massifs. In this context, the exhumation of the dated normal faults is linked to the eastward translation of the HDFS seismogenic zone, in agreement with the present-day seismic activity.

Abstract Bathsheba’s story is split by a wide chasm of male-dominated texts, spanning from 2 Sam 11–12 on one end to 1 Kgs 1–2 on the other—a literary rift that has long presented a problem for scholars attempting to discern a coherent development and appraisal of Bathsheba’s character throughout. This study highlights the ways in which the biblical depiction of Bathsheba resists simplistic interpretations and instead evinces a coherent, upward crescendo of character development through a combination of literary analysis and the hermeneutic lens of trauma and recovery, the latter of which highlights the suppression and growth of communicative agency throughout. The first section asserts that the trauma of rape is apparent and so recognized in 2 Sam 11:1–4 through its evocative synthesis of contextual setting, Hebrew terminology, and syntax. The second section analyzes 2 Sam 11:5–12:25, paying special attention to instances in which Bathsheba’s body “speaks” (i.e., nonverbal activity). The final section examines the emergence of Bathsheba’s verbal expression in 1 Kgs 1:1–2:25, elucidating an inverse relationship between David’s waning health and Bathsheba’s ascending voice. Together, these sections attest a consistent and coherent development of dynamic resiliency on the part of Bathsheba within the Hebrew text.

For the first time, a description and timing of the development of the main external morphological characteristics of Rana arvalis Nilsson, 1842 is presented, with particular attention to the formation of skin texture. The first signs of texture in the form of dark stripes and spots appeared in tadpole skin at stages G39 – 40. At G41 – 44, the body of the tadpole acquired a typical «frog» position with an orientation of 20 – 30° to the substrate, dorsolateral stripes transformed into folds, and dark spots into tubercles in the caudo-rostral direction. At the end of metamorphosis (G45 – 46), the texture formation was completed on the entire back, and the type of morph (striata, non-striata) was easily determined. The period between the first signs of the appearance of skin texture and its complete formation took 6 – 12 days. The most stable was the interval between the primary protrusion of the forelimbs under the skin and the eruption of the first one (~12 h). The period between the eruption of the first and second forelimbs was the most variable (from an hour to three days). The results obtained highlight the plasticity and problematic nature of the phenomenon of metamorphosis in amphibians.

Abstract This article compares Mandarin Chinese (MC) proficiencies of bi/multilingual children from immigrant families in Canada (BM) with those of monolingual (bidialectal) children (M) from China across two age groups (5–7 and 10–12). The purpose of the comparison is to identify the threshold of mother tongue to heritage language shift among Canadian bi/multilinguals. The results of bivariate ANOVA analysis of 28 speech parameters in children’s narratives elicited with the help of picture prompts demonstrate significant effects of language and age groups on proficiency parameters as well as interactions between language and age group factors. In the younger age group (5–7), bi/multilinguals proficiency is higher in six parameters, and lower in eight parameters, as compared to monolinguals, i.e., language proficiencies of bi/multilinguals are overall on par with those by monolinguals. By contrast, in the older participant group (10–12), there is a higher number of significant differences between BM and M participants (20 out of 28 parameters), and monolinguals have higher proficiencies in all these parameters. Furthermore, within the language group, cross-age comparisons display a significant improvement in 16 speech parameters for the older monolinguals group as compared to the younger group, but none at all for the bi/multilinguals older versus younger groups. The results suggest that for children from immigrant families in the given location and settings, the threshold of Mandarin Chinese shift from a mother tongue to a heritage language occurs between the ages of 8–9 and is largely completed by the age of 10–12, as evidenced by lack of further development of speech parameters in the 10–12 BM group. These results are explained by the impact of majority language education and other social factors.

We examined factors affecting the growth and survival of postmetamorphic Bufo marinus using sampling and experiments. Bufo metamorphs, defined as newly emerged terrestrial toads of 9-29mm snout-ischium length (SIL), were classified into four stages on the basis of colour and size. Stage 1 were uniformly black and about 9-12 mm SIL, stage 2 were mottled with orange spots and about 12-16mm SL, stage 3 had a white mid-dorsal line and were about 16-25mm SIL, and stage 4 had enlarged parotoid glands and were about 25-29 mm SIL. We determined the density of each stage at three distances (0-1, 2-3, 4-5m) from their larval habitat using 1 x 1-m quadrat samples. The mean densities of all metamorphs within 1 m of water were 2.6m-2 and 2.1m-2 for the wet and early dry seasons, respectively. The mean densities of all metamorphs during both seasons at 2-3m and 4-5m from water were 0.8m-2 and 0.6m-2, respectively. Stage 2 metamorphs were most common in samples. Most stage 1 metamorphs occurred within 1m of the water in both seasons (98% wet; 95% dry). Increasing percentages of stage 2, 3 and 4 metamorphs occurred in samples 2-3 and 4-5m from water (38, 49 and 80%, respectively, averaged over both seasons). Three experiments examined the response of metamorph growth and survival rates to density in open-topped flyscreen enclosures. Stage 1 or 2 metamorphs were established at initial densities of 3.3, 6.7 and 16.7m-2. Metamorphs in the lower-density enclosures grew more rapidly than metamorphs in the higher-density enclosures. A profile analysis showed that daily survival rate was not densitydependent. Correlation analyses showed that daily metamorph survival was influenced by daily maximum and minimum temperatures. Metamorphs at lower densities attain juvenile size (30mm) more rapidly; because they survive at the same daily rates as metamorphs at higher densities they experience lower cumulative mortality as metamorphs.

The present essay investigates the representation of the First World War in Italian fascist cinema by analyzing some of the major films about the war made during the Fascist regime and, notably, Marco Elter’s Le scarpe al sole (1935), Giovacchino Forzano’s 13 uomini e un cannone (1936) and Oreste Biancoli’s Piccolo alpino (1940). The films will be examined from an original and specific angle, devoting special attention to their portrayal of the Austrian enemy. Little consideration has been paid so far in scholarly research to this aspect. The essay will specifically address the question, investigating the changing representation of WWI and, particularly, the metamorphosis of Austria from foe to friend in Italian cinema in the course of the twenty years of Fascist regime. In doing so, the essay will place the above films against the background of the Fascist regime’s foreign policy, with special regard to the Italian-Austrian politics of friendship during the 1930s, followed at the end of the decade by Italy’s alliance with Nazi-Germany and the birth of the Rome-Berlin axis.

Soiuy mullet of the family Mugilidae is a valuable commercial fish species introduced into the Azov-Black Sea basin. It is adapted to live both in fresh and oceanic saline waters; it fattens in shallow waters of bays and lagoons that warm up and cool down quickly and strongly and is one of the promising objects for artificial breeding. There are presented the research results on cultivating larvae and juveniles of soiuy mullet in 2017-2020 in the conditions of artificial reproduction at the experimental base of “Kerch” department of Russian Research Institute of Fish Industry and Oceanography (AzNIIRH) – Research Base Zavetnoe. The biological norms of larvae rearing to the end of metamorphosis were outlined. The larvae aged 4-12 days were fed only with zooplanktonic organisms. 10-12-day-old juveniles were fed with inert feed. There are given the data on development of eggs and juveniles of soiuy mullet in artificial conditions, main size and weight parameters, daily diets and amount of artificial feed used in its rearing from 5 to 120 days old. Using live feed in combination with artificial feed up to 30 days old is recommended. There are presented quantitative indicators on the expenditure of live and artificial feed and feed coefficients in soiuy mullet larvae farming until the completion of metamorphosis and yearlings. It has also been found that dietary intake of larvae considerably increases with growth, therefore it is expedient to work on using a wider range of artificial feed at earlier stages of rearing - in 10-15-day-old soiuy mullet larvae.

Introduction: Post-traumatic non-vital teeth is one of the indications for One Visit Endodontic. Trauma to the teeth may arise from conditions that cause the teeth to become necrotic so that the teeth will look darker and experience discoloration. Clinical conditions that indicate the death of the dental pulp and teeth require endodontic treatment. This situation will cause discoloration of the teeth that occur as a result of the metamorphosis of calcified pulp. Internal whitening is a treatment that can be done after the first treatment. Purpose: To provide information about discolored teeth management after trauma which causes pulp necrosis by doing root canal treatment and internal bleaching to change tooth color. Case: A 31-year-old woman came to the RSKGMP Universitas Airlangga with a referral from the orthodontics department where her teeth were darker in color and interfered with her appearance. In the previous history, the patient had an accident and trauma 10 years ago. Case Management: The first step is access opening and a good glide path. Root canal preparation was performed using the Crown Down Pressureless technique. The obturation technique used is Single Cone. The results were good and there were no symptoms during the control. Conclusion: One visit endodontic can be a treatment option for post-traumatic non-vital teeth. Internal bleaching with Walking Bleach Technique is also proven effective in restoring the original tooth color without excessive reduction of the dental crown.
