Semiconductor quantum dots and metal nanoparticles feature very strong light-matter interactions, which has led to their use in many photonic applications such as photodetectors, biosensors, components for telecommunications etc.Under illumination both structures exhibit collective electron-photon resonances, described in the frameworks of quasiparticles as exciton-polaritons for semiconductors and surface plasmon-polaritons for metals.To date these two approaches to controlling light interactions have usually been treated separately, with just a few simple attempts to consider exciton-plasmon interactions in a system consisting of both semiconductor and metal nanostructures.In this work, the exciton-polaritons and surface \\plasmon-polaritons are first considered separately, and then combined using the Finite Difference Time Domain numerical method coupled with a master equation for the exciton-polariton population dynamics.To better understand the properties of excitons and plasmons, each quasiparticle is used to investigate two open questions - the source of the Stokes shift between the absorption and luminescence peaks in quantum dots, and the source of the photocurrent increase in quantum dot infrared photodetectors coated by a thin metal film with holes. The combined numerical method is then used to study a system consisting of multiple metal nanoparticles close to a quantum dot, a system which has been predicted to exhibit quantum dot-induced transparency, but is demonstrated to just have a weak dip in the absorption.

This thesis develops methods for integrating colloidally synthesized quantum dots (QDs) and metal oxides in optoelectronic devices, presents three distinct light emitting devices (LEDs) with metal oxides surrounding a QD active layer, and uses these novel metal oxide based QD-LEDs to study mechanisms for electrical excitation of QDs. QD-LEDs have generated considerable interest for applications such as thin film displays with improved color saturation and white lighting with high color rendering index. This work demonstrates that air-stable metal oxides can be used to achieve QD-LEDs that have long shelf lives and operate at constant luminance in ambient conditions, unpackaged. Because metal oxides range from conductors to dielectrics, they can be used to develop a variety of different device architectures to explore mechanisms for electrical excitation of QDs. We report the first all-inorganic QD-LEDs with n- and p-type metal oxide charge transport layers and present design rules to enable systematic improvement of device efficiency. To shift away from direct charge injection as a means for electroluminescence (EL) in inorganic-based QD-LED structures, we develop a unipolar device architecture that presents the first evidence of field driven EL in QDs. To further explore this field driven excitation mechanism, we develop a structure that situates QDs between two insulating metal oxide layers. By eliminating the need for energy band alignment, these devices enable EL from QDs with emission peaks from 450 nm-1500 nm as well as from novel nanoparticles, such as phosphor doped-core/shell nanocrystals.

Although cadmium and lead chalcogenide quantum dot have excellent optical and photoluminescent properties that are highly favorable for biological applications, there still exists increasing concerns due to the toxicity of these metals. We, therefore, report the synthesis of new aqueous soluble IrSe quantum dot at room temperature utilizing a bottom-up wet chemistry approach. NaHSe and H2IrCl6 were utilized as the Se and Ir source, respectively. High-resolution transmission electron microscopy reveals that the synthesized 3MPA-IrSe Qd are 3 nm in diameter. The characteristics and properties of the IrSe Qd are investigated utilizing, Selected Area electron diffraction, ATR- Fourier Transform Infra-Red Spectroscopy, Energy Dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, Photoluminescence, Cyclic Voltammetry and chronocoulometry. A 3 fold increase in the optical band gap of IrSe quantum dot in comparison to reported bulk IrSe is observed consistent with the effective mass approximation theory for semiconductor materials of particles sizes < 10 nm. The PL emission of the IrSe quantum dot is at 519 nm. Their electro-activity is studied on gold electrodes and exhibit reduction and oxidation at - 107 mV and +641 mV, with lowered reductive potentials. The synthesized quantum dot are suitable for low energy requiring electrochemical applications such as biological sensors and candidates for further investigation as photoluminescent biological labels.

In this thesis, the strain balancing of self-assembled InAs/GaAs quantum dots (QDs), grown by metal-organic vapour phase epitaxy (MOVPE) is investigated. Initially, the optimisation of the important QD growth parameters, InAs coverage, growth rate, V/III ratio during the QD growth and the V/III ratio during the capping layer growth is explored. Incorporation of a strain-balancing layer will allow the close vertical stacking of QD layers, giving the potential for increased volumetric QD density and hence increased optical gain. Strain balancing can only be achieved practically using a GaAszP1-z layer. Therefore, modelling is performed of different phosphorus concentrations to understand the effects of placing a large potential barrier between QD layers on the electrical characteristics and the lasing threshold current density. In addition, X-ray diffraction (XRD) spectra are modelled to estimate the thickness of GaAs0.8P0.2 required to strain balance a QD layer. Based on this modelling, the implementation of a strain-balancing layer, which does not adversely affect the electrical characteristics and threshold current density, was attempted for three different QD layer separations: 50, 30 and 20 nm. Incorporation of this layer is shown to improve the performance of a device with a 30 nm spacing between QD layers, although performance is still inferior to that of a 50 nm device without strain balancing. Successful laser fabrication of the 50 and 30 nm structures with strain balancing gave laser operation up to 240 and 200 K, respectively. Further optimisation of the QD growth resulted in a room temperature laser with a layer separation of 50 nm, however, this was without the strain-balancing layer. Modelling of a relatively new type of semiconductor laser structure, a photonic crystal surface emitting laser (PCSEL) is performed to develop the incorporation of QDs. Three material systems for the photonic crystal are considered: void/GaAs, InGaP/GaAs and AlAs/GaAs, where the potential performance of each material system is discussed and compared. Preliminary investigations of the effect of the overgrowth temperature on the QD emission and the effect of incorporating an AlAs layer on the electrical characteristics were performed.

Quantum dots (QDs) are promising materials for applications in solar energy conversion because of tunable band gap, multi-exciton generation, photon-upconversion, etc. One of the main challenges of increasing solar energy conversion is to extend the lifetime of photoexcited charge-carriers in conduction band, and one of the strategies is to functionalize QD with mediator molecules. Functionalizing QD with metal-organic dye serves as the additional channel of manipulating charge transfer ? the key process increasing solar energy conversion. When metal-organic dye is attached to QD, the interfacial charge transfer direction as well as the rates are determined by a balance between the energetic alignment, QD-dye interaction as well as charge-carrier relaxation dynamics. In this dissertation, we explore the effect of dye functionalization on these elements. We change the metal ion, organic ligands as well as binding geometry of dye, size of QD, polarity of solvent, and use density functional theory to study their effects on energetic alignment. Embedding density functional calculation is used to study the dipole interaction between QD and dye providing additional controllability on charge transfer excitation. At last, we apply Tully surface hopping scheme in combining with density functional theory in time domain to study the charge-carrier relaxation dynamics and charge transfer across the heterogeneous interface in QD/dye nanocrystal composite.

Heavy metal (HM) containing quantum dots (Qdots) are increasingly used in commercial products due to their unique electronic, optoelectronic, optical and magnetic properties. Once disposed to the landfill, environmental weathering is likely to compromise HM Qdot integrity, leading to release of heavy metal ions. To minimize any negative environmental impact of HM Qdots, there is an increasing demand for developing HM free or environmentally-friendly surface modified HM Qdot alternatives. In this study, synthesis of HM free ZnS:Mn/ZnS and surface modified HM CdS:Mn/ZnS Qdots (using N-acetylcysteine, NAC, and Dihydrolipoic acid, DHLA) and their potential toxicity assessment using E. coli as a model system is reported. NAC and DHLA are known antioxidants and therefore expected to reduce HM induced toxicity and improve colloidal stability of Qdots. All Qdots were synthesized at room temperature using a reverse micelle microemulsion method. Qdots were fully characterized using UV-visible absorption spectroscopy, fluorescence emission spectroscopy, zeta potential, Nuclear Magnetic Resonance spectroscopy (NMR) and High Resolution Transmission Electron Microscopy (HRTEM). Qdot environmental weathering was simulated by treating Qdots with concentrated acid (6N HCl). Qdot toxicity was evaluated on E. coli growth and viability using growth curves, turbidity and bactericidal assays (CFU). Results show that Zn based Qdots exhibit reduced toxicity on E.coli growth and viability when compared to Cd based Qdots. In addition, surface modification with NAC and DHLA minimized toxicity of Cd based Qdots. In summary, Zn based Qdots appear to be more environmental-friendly than Cd based Qdots.

Para o desenvolvimento dos sensores aqui descritos foram utilizados materiais inovadores considerando relatos atuais da literatura, materiais estes: óxido de grafeno, óxido de grafeno reduzido, nanocompósitos de grafeno e nanopartículas (ródio, antimônio e sílica mesoporosa desordenada), materiais híbridos a base de grafeno e quantum dots de CdTe, além de biossensores incorporando a enzima lacase. Estes materiais foram sintetizados utilizando metodologias específicas e caracterizados por diversas técnicas analíticas como microscopia eletrônica de transmissão de alta resolução, microscopia de força atômica, espectroscopia Raman, difração de raios-X, espectroscopias de UV-Vis e fotoluminescência, e técnicas eletroquímicas. Posteriormente, os materiais foram utilizados para modificação em eletrodos de carbono vítreo e utilizados na determinação de interferentes endócrinos (os hormônios estriol e 17β-estradiol) como sensores eletroquímicos em amostras ambientais e clínicas. Em essência, os eletrodos desenvolvidos apresentaram importantes vantagens, tais como alta sensibilidade, boa reprodutibilidade, simples instrumentação, fácil preparação e procedimentos analíticos rápidos, apresentando baixos limites de detecção, na ordem de picomolar e nanomolar, com baixa taxa de interferência de outras espécies na mesma matriz da amostra. Concluindo assim que as técnicas eletroquímicas podem ser facilmente aplicadas na determinação de interferentes endócrinos em amostras reais.
For the development of the sensors described here innovators materials were used considering current literature reports, these materials: Graphene oxide, reduced graphene oxide, nanocomposites graphene and nanoparticles (rhodium and antimony), hybrid materials of graphene and CdTe quantum dots, and biosensors incorporating the laccase enzyme. These materials were synthesized using specific methodologies and characterized by several analytical techniques such as transmission electron microscopy, high resolution transmission electron microscopy, atomic force microscopy, Raman spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, UV-Vis and photoluminescence spectroscopy and electrochemical techniques. Subsequently, the materials were used for modification of glassy carbon electrodes to the determination of endocrine disruptors (estriol and 17β-estradiol hormone) as electrochemical sensors for environmental and clinical samples. In essence, developed electrodes showed important advantages such as high sensitivity, good reproducibility, simple instrumentation, easy preparation and quick analytical procedures, with low detection limits in the range of picomolar and nanomolar, low interference rate of other species in same matrix sample. Finally, electrochemical techniques can be easily applied in the determination of endocrine disruptors in real samples.

Nanotechnology builds devices from the bottom up with atomic accuracy. Among the basic nano-components to fabricate such devices, semiconductor nanoparticle quantum dots (QDs), metal nanocrystals, proteins, and nucleic acids have attracted most interests due to their potential in optical, biomedical, and electronic areas. The major objective of this research was to prepare nano-components in order to fabricate functional nano-scale devices. This research consisted of three projects. In the first two projects, we incorporated two desirable characteristics of QDs, which are their abilities to serve as donors in fluorescence energy transfer (FRET) and surface energy transfer (SET) as well as to do multiplexing, to engineer QD-based nanoconjugates for optical and biomedical applications. Immobilizing luminescent semiconductor CdSe/ZnS QDs to a solid platform for QD-based biosensors offers advantages over traditional solution-based assays. In the first project, we designed highly sensitive CdSe/ZnS QD SET-based probes using gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) as FRET acceptors on polystyrene (PS) microsphere surfaces. The emission of PS-QD was significantly quenched and restored when the AuNPs were attached to and then removed from the surface. The probes were sensitive enough to analyze signals from a single bead and for use in optical applications. The new PS-QD-AuNP SET platform opens possibilities to carry out both SET and FRET assays in microparticle-based platforms and in microarrays. In the second project, we applied the QD-encoded microspheres in FRET-based analysis for bio-applications. QDs and Alexa Fluor 660 (A660) fluorophores are used as donors and acceptors respectively via a hairpin single stranded DNA. FRET between QD and A660 on the surface of polystyrene microspheres resulted in quenching of QD luminescence and increased A660 emission. QD emission on polystyrene x microspheres was restored when the targeted complementary DNA hybridized the hairpin strand and displaced A660 away from QDs. The third project involved fabrication of different nanoconjugates via self-assembly of template-based metal nanowires and metal nanoparticles using oligonucleotides as linkers. These nanoconjugates can serve as building blocks in nano-electronic circuits. The template method restricted the oligonucleotides attachment to the tip of the nanowires. Nanowires tagged with hybridizable DNA could connect to complementary DNA-modified metal crystals in a position-specific manner.

Au cours de ces dernières années, la microfluidique est devenue une technologie attrayante pour la synthèse en écoulement continu de dispersions colloïdales de nanocristaux. Ce procédé permet un contrôle optimal des paramètres de synthèse, offre une très bonne reproductibilité, et la possibilité de transposition à grande échelle. Dans une première partie, nous avons développé des synthèses microfluidiques et écologiques de cristaux ZIF 8, adaptables à une grande échelle de production, avec un écoulement monophasique ou biphasique (eau/alcane). La technologie microfluidique permet la synthèse rapide (10 min) de cristaux ZIF-8 avec une large variation de taille de particules (de 300 à 900 nm) simplement en faisant varier les paramètres expérimentaux (débit, température, ...). Les cristaux de ZIF-8 obtenus sont de forme géométrique dodécaèdrique rhombique, de structure cristalline sodalite et leur surface spécifique est d’environ 1700 m2/g. Puis, les propriétés catalytiques des particules ZIF-8 ont été évaluées. Des 3-cyanocoumarines et des cyanoesters α,β-insaturés ont été synthétisés avec des rendements variant de 89 à 95% via la réaction de Knoevenagel utilisant les particules ZIF-8 comme catalyseur hétérogène. Les particules de ZIF-8 peuvent être recyclées au minimum cinq fois. Dans la seconde partie de ce mémoire, nous avons synthétisé des QDs CdS dopé Mn2+ et Cu+ recouverts d’une coquille ZnS en microréacteur tubulaire avec un écoulement monophasique ou biphasique (eau/alcane). Différents paramètres expérimentaux (temps de séjour, température, pH, rapport molaire des précurseurs, concentration et nature des précurseurs, …) ont été évalués afin d’optimiser les propriétés optiques. Les QDs CdS dopé Mn2+ présentent uniquement l’émission de fluorescence liée à la transition 4T1→6A1 et leur rendement quantique de fluorescence est voisin de 10%. L’introduction d’une coquille ZnS en écoulement monophasique permet d’améliorer les propriétés optiques et de réduire les défauts des surfaces des QDs 6%Mn:CdS/ZnS (émission à 590 nm et rendement quantique de 20 %). L’introduction d’une coquille ZnS à la périphérie des QDs Cu:CdS ne permet pas d’améliorer de manière significative le rendement quantique de fluorescence. Dans la dernière partie, la synthèse en microréacteur avec écoulement monophasique ou biphasique (eau/alcane) de QDs ZnS dopé Mn2+ a été développée. Les QDs obtenus possèdent un rendement quantique de 13% s’ils sont préparés en écoulement monophasique
In recent years, microfluidics has become an attractive technology for the continuous flow synthesis of colloidal nanocrystals. This technology allows a good control of the synthesis parameters, a good reproducibility and the possibility of the application on a large scale. In a first part, we have developed continuous and ecological syntheses of the ZIF-8 crystals for the large scale, either with a monophasic or a biphasic flow (water/alkane). The microfluidic technology allows the fast synthesis (10 min) of ZIF-8 crystals over a wide size range (from ca. 300 to 900 nm) simply by varying the experimental parameters (flow rates, temperature,…). ZIF-8 crystals with the stable rhombic dodecahedron shape, of sodalite structure and with a high specific surface area (ca. 1700 m2.g-1) were obtained. Next, the catalytic properties of ZIF-8 crystals were evaluated. These particles were demonstrated to be an efficient heterogeneous catalyst for the Knoevenagel synthesis of α,β-unsaturated cyanoesters and of 3-cyanocoumarins using 2-hydroxy aromatic aldehydes and ethyl cyanoacetate as starting materials (yields ranging from 89 to 95%). The ZIF-8 particles can be recycled at least five times with negligible changes in catalytic performances. In the second part, we synthesized the Mn2+ or Cu+-doped CdS QDs coated with a ZnS shell in a tubular microreactor using a monophasic or a biphasic flow (water/alkane). Various experimental parameters (time, temperature, pH, molar ratio, concentration and nature of the starting materials) were evaluated to optimize the optical properties of the dots. The obtained Mn2+ doped CdS QDs exhibited a photoluminescence emission related to the 4T1 → 6A1 transition with quantum yields higher than 10%. The introduction of a ZnS shell with the monophasic flow allows to improve the optical properties and to reduce the surface defects of the 6% Mn:CdS/ZnS QDs (strong emission at 590 nm and quantum yields of ca. 20%). The introduction of a ZnS shell on the surface of Cu doped CdS QDs does not significantly improve the quantum yields. Finally, the synthesis of Mn2+-doped ZnS QDs with monophasic or biphasic flow (water/alkane) was developed. The dots have a photoluminescence quantum yield of 13% if they are prepared in a monophasic water flow

Resumo: Os mecanismos de confinamento e transporte em escala nanométrica continuam a ser um desafio em Física do Estado Sólido, uma vez que tanto a dimensionalidade quanto o tamanho dos dispositivos continuam a ser reduzidos. Desta forma, o estudo e entendimento do transporte em materiais amorfos e nano-cristalinos, que apresentam acoplamento de processos de transporte eletrônico e iônico é de grande relevância atualmente. Neste sentido, aplicações tecnológicas que incluem desde o desenvolvimento de sensores (TiO2) até a fabricação de novos dispositivos de memórias com características não voláteis ¿ dispositivos memoristores ¿ podem ser citadas. Esta tese consiste no estudo de propriedades de transporte em nanoestruturas semicondutoras. Dois tipos de estruturas são investigados: i) pontos quânticos autoformados de InAs sobre substratos de GaAs, e ii) dispositivos memoristores produzidos por meio de litografia por oxidação anódica local (LAO), considerando estruturas do tipo Ti-TiO2-Ti. Técnicas de Espectroscopia de Capacitância, considerando fatores de tipo estrutural (barreira de tunelamento) e experimental (temperatura, frequência e voltagem), podem ser utilizadas para a determinação dos mecanismos de transporte, densidades de estados, concentração de impurezas etc, no caso do sistema III-V InAs/GaAs. No caso do TiO2, crescido por meio de Sputtering DC, processos de caracterização permitem apontar características ópticas, por meio de Elipsometria, características estruturais, por Microscopia de Força Atômica (AFM) e Difração de Raio-X (XRD), e a composição química, por Espectroscopia de Fotoelétrons por Raio-X (XPS) e Retro-Espalhamento Rutherford (RBS). Finalmente, a litografia por oxidação anódica local pormeio de AFM permite desenhar as estruturas do tipo metal-óxido-metal, que apresentam características elétricas de chaveamento entre estados de alta e baixa condutividade, dependentes da frequência ¿ sinais típicos do comportamento memoristivo. O estudo dos pontos quânticos permite calibrar os mecanismos de transporte por meio de Espectroscopia de Capacitância. Já os dispositivos memoristores, conformados por estruturas planares, e fabricados neste trabalho por meio de litografia por oxidação local, permitem identificar importantes características elétricas retificadoras que apresentam um comportamento elétrico não volátil. Estas características memoristivas são promissoras, pois possibilitam avançar no entendimento e fabricação de um novo tipo de dispositivos com o potencial de se tornar uma nova geração de dispositivos de memória não voláteis
Abstract: As the dimension and size of electronic devices continue to be reduced, confinement and transport mechanisms at nanometric scale remains nowadays as a great challenge in Solid State Physics. Thus, the study and understanding of transport processes in amorphous and nanocrystalline materials ¿ characterized by the coupling of electronic and ionic behavior ¿ becomes highly relevant currently. Technological applications comprise for example the development of sensors (TiO2) and the fabrication of new memory devices with non volatile characteristics ¿ memristor devices. This thesis is intended to study transport properties in semiconducting nanostructures. Two different kinds of structures are investigated: i) self-assembled InAs quantum dots grown on GaAs substrates and ii) memristor devices produced by means AFM Local Anodic Oxidation Lithography (LAO), considering planar Ti-TiO2-Ti structures. Considering structural (tunneling barrier) as well as experimental factors (temperature, frequency and gate bias), Capacitance Spectroscopy is implemented here. This technique supplies information for the determination of transport mechanisms, density os states, concentration of impurities etc, considering the III-V system (InAs/GaAs). In the case of the TiO2 thin films are prepared by means of Sputtering DC. A characterization process permits to point out optical properties, by means of Elipsometry, structural properties, by means of Atomic Force Microscopy and X-Ray Diffraction, and chemical characteristics, by means of X-Ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy (XPS) and Rutherford Backscattering (RBS). Finally, an AFM Local Anodic Oxidation lithography technique permits to design metal-oxide-metal structures. These structures are characterized by frequency-dependent conductive switching states ¿ typical signature of memristive behavior. Quantum dots studies permit to perform a calibration of transport mechanisms by means of Capacitance Spectroscopy. On the other hand, the planar memristor devices fabricated in this work by means of Local Anodic Oxidation present important rectifying electrical characteristics with non volatile behavior. This memristor approach permits to put forward in the understanding and fabrication of a new family of devices with the potential to become a new generation of non volatile memory devices

No presente trabalho desenvolveu-se o processo de metalização mecânica de Al2O3 com Ti, ligas Ti-Cu e Ti-Ni, como preparação para a brasagem metal/cerâmica com liga de adição sem elemento ativo. Avaliou-se o sistema para metalização mecânica mais adequado, assim como os parâmetros do processo que maximizam a qualidade do revestimento metálico. Filmes de Ti puro, Ti-20%Cu, Ti-35%Cu e duplo revestimento com Ti seguido de Cu ou Ni foram aplicados na cerâmica e caracterizados com respeito a qualidade e molhamento por ligas de adição convencionais. Uniões Cu/Al2O3 e Fe-28%Ni-23%Co/Al2O3 foram produzidas em alto-vácuo após a metalização mecânica utilizando-se as ligas de adição: VH-780 (Ag-Cu), SCP-2 (Ag-Cu-Pd) e VH-950 (Au-Ni). Analisou-se a influência dos parâmetros de metalização, material dos filmes depositados e temperatura na microestrutura e resistência mecânica das uniões.Verificou-se que com todos os revestimentos avaliados é possível a brasagem. A análise microestrutural revelou uma zona de precipitação, resultante das reações entre o revestimento metálico e a liga de adição. De um modo geral, as microestruturas das uniões contém além da zona de precipitação e camada de reação um microconstituínte eutético, oriundo do material de adição.

Resumo: o processo de deposição das ligas de zinco vem encontrando aplicações cada vez maiores na indústria de galvanoplastia, especificamente na produção de auto peças destinadas às empresas montadoras de veículos. Neste trabalho, o processo de deposição da liga Zn-Co foi estudado através da técnica de voltametria cíclica para kientificar as regiões de potenciais para a deposição dos constituintes da liga. A seguir, foram simuladas variações composicionais e operacionais do eletrólito para deposição da liga Zn-Co, normalmente observadas em linhas de produção. Adicionalmente, além das variações do eletrólito, foram estudadas amostras de peças (ferro fundido nodular como substrato) obtidas em condições adversas de processamento. O objeti,vo foi estudar a influência desses parâmetros na composição final do depósito, e na resistência à corrosão através de ensaios acelerados em câmara de névoa salina. O processo para deposição da líga Zn-Co apresentou boa estabilidade e', baixa sensibilidade às variações de concentração que podem ocorrer no cotidiano de uma linha de produção. Os ensaios em célula de Hull mostraram que variações deliberadas de 2 g.L-1 a 8 g.L-1 de Co (II) no banho produzem depósitos com 0,6 % a 1,6 % de Co na liga. Na faixa recomendada de trabalho de 4 g.L-1 a 6 g.L-1. obtém-se 0,9 % a 1,2 %. Os ensaios acelerados de corrosão em câmara de névoa salina mostraram que, mesmo nas condições mais improváveis de funcionamento, onde o teor de cobalto pode cair para 0,6 %, a camada resiste a mais de 500 horas de ensaio. Tempo de ensaio de 720 horas foi obtido quando [Zn(II)]=46 g.L-1 e [Co(II)]=4,6 g.L-1. ou seja, [Zn(II)]/[Co(II)]=10
Abstract: Zinc alloy coatings have found large application in the metal finishing índustry, particularly for coatíng automotive parts. In thís work, the deposítíon of Zn-Co process was characterízed by cyclic voltammetry in order to identify the rangCe of deposition potential of the alloy and its constituents. Then, variations of deposition parameters and bath composition were símulated in order to study their influence on the coating properties. In addition, beside plating variation, samples produced under qnideal process condítion were studied. The plating bath presented good stability and low sensibility to variations usually observed in the industrial production. Hull-cell, experiments shown that, despite the deliberated changes in bath composítion, ,cobalt concentration in the alloy is always wíthín the range of 0,6 % to 1,6 %. Recommended values are from 0,9 % to 1,2 %. Salt spray tests shown that the Zn-Co coating lasted 500 h of test and, in the optimum deposition conditions, 720 h was obtained

During the process of mechanical conforming of metal sheet by punching process, several factors influence the accuracy and final geometry of the hole punched. The properties of material used and its behavior in the face of imposed deformations, as well as process parameters influence the final result. High Strength Low Alloy steels (HSLA) are particularly suitable for structural parts that do not require severe forming, such as industrial shelving systems or furniture. Knowledge of mechanical punching operation is of utmost importance to planners of product, process and tooling, so you can get quality products at an acceptable level of waste. The numerical simulation can contribute significantly to the prediction of behavior, still in the planning phase of the product. The goal of this paper is analyze the influence of gap between punch and die during punching. The metal plate material was used with a thickness of 8mm DIN EN 10268 H 360 LA with gaps between punch and die ranging from 2% to 10%. For this we developed a 2D axisymmetric model in ABAQUS/Explicit software, Version 6.7 and the result were compared with literature data and practical experiment. Test showed that the gap of 2% showed the best result..
Durante o processo de conformação metálica por embutidura vários fatores influenciam na geometria final do puncionado. As propriedades do material usado e o seu comportamento perante conformações impostas, assim como característica do processo comprometem o resultado final. Aços HSLA são particularmente apropriado para componentes estruturais que não requerem conformação profunda, tal como os usados na industria de mobiliário metálico. Conhecimento em operações de embutidura mecânica é de maior importância para gestores de produto, processo e ferramentas, para obtenção de produtos de elevada qualidade e desperdício mínimo. A simulação numérica contribui significativamente para a previsão do comportamento ainda na fase de planeamento. O objetivo deste trabalho é analisar a influência da distância entre o punção e a matriz. Considerou-se uma variação entre 2 a 10% nesta análise. Para cumprir estes objetivos criou-se um modelo axissimetrico 2D no ABAQUS/Explicit Software versão 6.7 e o resultado foi comparado com dados bibliográficos e ensaios laboratoriais. Testes demonstraram que a distância entre o punção e a matriz de 2% proporciona o melhor resultado.

O depósito de níquel laterítico de Niquelândia, GO, Brasil, é considerado um dos mais importantes depósitos desta natureza no país, em razão de sua dimensão, seus teores ligeiramente mais elevados e associação com argilominerais. Desde a década de 70, autores como Trescases e Santos já estudavam seus argilominerais detentores de níquel. Este depósito difere dos cubanos e australianos, pois os primeiros têm o níquel associado aos minérios oxidados e os segundos à serpentina. Em Niquelândia, o níquel está associado principalmente às esmectitas e vermiculitas. A existência destes argilominerais ricos em níquel torna o processo hidrometalúrgico aplicado em Niquelândia o menos recomendado, o que pode ser verificado através de perdas significativas de níquel no rejeito, principalmente no que se refere ao minério silicatado. Estas perdas estão relacionadas com a formação de silicatos de magnésio, como piroxênios, anfibólios e olivinas ainda durante o processo de moagem do minério, isto ocorre devido à técnica aplicada para a redução da umidade. A formação destes minerais retém o níquel em suas estruturas, não permitindo que este seja solubilizado na etapa de lixiviação amoniacal. Em Niquelândia, o principal portador de níquel é a esmectita, no entanto, são identificadas esmectitas di e trioctaédricas, quase sempre associadas. Estas variam desde um extremo trioctaédrico rico em níquel, praticamente refratário ao processo Caron, à esmectitas dioctaédricas de ferro, de baixos teores de níquel, mas com boa recuperação junto ao processo. Contudo, predominam no depósito esmectitas di e trioctaédricas de composições variadas de Fe-Mg-Ni, classificadas como montmorillonitas/stevensitas. Uma maneira de minimizar as perdas de recuperação de níquel seria exercer maior controle sobre a alimentação da usina, de forma a reduzir a proporção de minério silicatado do tipo esmectita trioctaédrica, aumentando a proporção de minério oxidado+minério silicatado de esmectitas dioctaédricas.
The nickel lateritic ore from Niquelândia Goiás - is one of the most important and well known Ni lateritic deposits in Brazil. High nickel contents, the deposit dimension and also, their associations with clay minerals are the main reasons for researchers, such as Trescases and Santos, to have studied it in the 1970s. The Cuban and Australian deposits have nickel associated to oxidized ores and serpentine, respectively, but at Niquelandia, nickel is specially associated to smectites and vermiculites. The Caron Process is not the most suitable for treating Ni-bearing clay minerals, as those present in Niquelândia. Consequently, there are many losses related to silicated ore. The reduction temperature used in the Caron process in the reduction step can form minerals, such as pyroxene, amphibole and olivine. These minerals trap Ni inside their structure; hence, the ammoniacal solution can not access this element and solubilize it. The main Ni-bearing clay mineral observed in Niquelândia is smectite. Actually, the silicated ore is composed by a mixture of smectites. One of them is a Ni-trioctahedral one, which is not affected by ammoniacal leaching; however, it has a significant amount of nickel. On the other hand, a dioctahedral Fe-rich smectite, has high Ni recoveries, but its nickel content is lower. Samples composed by a mixture of di and trioctahedrals smectites - Fe-Mg-Ni montmorillonite/stevensite are the most common. Considering all these factors, the losses related to Ni-recoveries can be avoided by a better feed control. The ideal feed should be an oxidized ore + silicate ore composed by dioctahedrals smectites. The Ni trioctahedral smectite should be avoided.

Dans cette thèse nous explorons le diagramme de phase des fullerènes intercalées avec des métaux alcalins lourds, Rb6C60 et Cs6C60, à très haute pression (<50 GPa) et à très haute température (de l’ambiante à 1500 K). Ce travail inclue des expériences d’absorption de rayons X, de diffraction de rayons X, de spectroscopie Raman, ainsi que des calculs DFT ab initio à haute pression. Le couplage entre expériences et calculs permet d’observer que la présence de la forte interaction ionique entre chaque molécule et les ions alcalins, empêche la polymérisation des fullerènes sous pression. Dans le cas de Cs6C60, ceci a permis d’étendre le domaine de stabilité en pression des molécules de C60 d’au moins un facteur deux par rapport aux cristaux de C60 non-intercalés. Dans le cas de Rb6C60 une transition réversible est observée à 35 GPa. Nous avons mis en évidence la déformation progressive de la molécule de fullerène sous pression dans les systèmes étudiés. La compressibilité des deux cristaux a été mesurée et calculée
In this thesis, we explore the phase diagram of the heavy alkali metal intercalated fullerenes, Rb6C60 and Cs6C60, under high pressure (<50 GPa) and high temperature conditions (from ambient to 1500 K). The work includes a series of X-ray absorption spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction and Raman spectroscopy measurements as well as ab initio DFT calculations under pressure. By coupling both experiments and calculations, we observed that the presence of strong ionic interactions between each molecule and the alkali metal ions, prevents fullerene polymerization under pressure. In the case of Cs6C60, this allows to extend the pressure stability of the C60 molecules more than twice with respect to pristine solid C60. In the case of Rb6C60 a phase transition, is observed at 35 GPa. A pressure induced enhanced deformation of the fullerene molecule in the studied systems has been evidenced. The compressibility of the both crystals has been measured and calculated

The main purposes of this work are characterize and evaluate ANSI/AWS A5.4-92 E309 Electrodes Weld Metals from three different sources. The evaluation was made analyzing the following aspects: operational qualities; chemical composition; microstructures; contents of ferrite, oxygen and nitrogen; mechanical properties and inclusions characteristics (contents, size distribution and chemical composition). The welding processes were made according to ANSI/AWS A5.4-92 standards. The welding parameters (voltage and current) were monitored by a digital acquisition system and they were controlled by the operator within the recommended ranges. The metallographic samples were attacked with Murakami’s reagent. The results suggest that some operational characteristics of the electrodes must be considered during the procedure qualification or evaluation. It can be inferred that: the contents of some important chemical elements are next to the standard limits or out of them; the δ-ferrite content and its morphology depends on the manufacturer and this fact can lead to relevant differences in the welding metal tensile strength, ductility and tenacity; the inclusions existent in the welding metals have many phases and spherical shape; this inclusions are rich Mn and Si and can include Cr, Ti and other elements in their phases.
O objetivo deste trabalho foi caracterizar e avaliar metais de solda de diferentes eletrodos revestidos da classe AWS E309 (309-16, 309L-15, 309L-16, 309Mo-16, 309MoL-15 e 309MoL-16), oriundos de três fabricantes disponíveis no mercado nacional. A avaliação destes eletrodos e fabricantes foi feita quanto às suas qualidades operacionais, composição química do metal de solda, microestrutura, teores de ferrita δ, teores de oxigênio e nitrogênio, resistência à tração, ductilidade, tenacidade ao impacto, teores de inclusões, distribuição dos tamanhos de inclusões e composição química das inclusões. As soldagens, com uma fonte eletrônica multiprocesso foram realizadas na posição plana, sobre chapas de aço ABNT 1020 usinadas e amanteigadas segundo a norma AWS A5.4-92. Os parâmetros de soldagem de todos os passes foram monitorados por sistema dedicado de aquisição de dados, e controlados pelo soldador dentro de faixas recomendadas pelos fabricantes e obedecendo à temperatura de interpasse máxima de 150ºC estabelecida pela norma AWS A5.4-92. Os corpos de prova retirados das soldas para os ensaios também foram preparados segundo normas apropriadas. Utilizou-se o ataque com o reagente de Murakami para as análises metalográficas dos metais de solda. Os resultados indicam que existem características operacionais dos eletrodos, que embora não sejam especificadas por norma, devem ser consideradas nos seus procedimentos de qualificação ou avaliação. Concluiu-se ainda que muitas vezes os teores de determinados elementos químicos importantes encontram-se perigosamente nos limites estabelecidos pela norma ou até fora deles; que o teor de ferrita δ, bem como a sua morfologia, depende do fabricante e isto pode provocar significativas diferenças nos valores de resistência à tração, ductilidade e tenacidade do metal de solda; e que as inclusões apresentadas nos diversos metais de solda são esféricas e multifásicas, ricas em manganês e silício, e podem conter ainda cromo, titânio e outros elementos em menor quantidade distribuídos em suas fases.

Research on well-being is in its infancy and the term lacks a clear definition, yet it is an increasingly popular matter. The neurology underlying well-being is important in such research in order to understand what brain mechanisms are correlated with mental health. Even though objective measures such as brain imaging are increasingly used assessments in well-being and neuroscience studies, self-reports are widely used. Articles viewing such research often state that self-reports could be biased because the subjects may be affected by the weather the day of the self-report. No further explanations are however provided as to why or how those individuals would be affected by the weather, or by which weather conditions. The aim of this thesis is thus to find neurological explanations for how weather can affect well-being. Constituents of well-being will be reviewed together with brain bases of mental health in an attempt to find neural correlations of weather and well-being. How humans are affected by the weather is a limited research area and the findings are diverse on all aspects but the solar influence over the brain and mind. Man-made light was however found to be a substitute for the effect of sunlight on the brain. No strong relationship between weather and well-being were found based on existing literature. No significant neural correlations between mental well-being and different weather conditions was found either.

A separação dos isómeros de xileno é um problema clássico da indústria petroquímica devido à sua ligação directa à produção de PET. A destilação é uma das formas possíveis de remover o o-xileno, mas falha para os restantes alquilaromáticos devido aos pontos de ebulição serem muito próximos. Além da cristalização, a qual possui uma pobre eficiência, a adsorção é largamente usada, sendo operado industrialmente em leito móvel simulado (SMB). Como adsorventes nesses processos são usados os zeólitos X e Y, permutados com catiões, tal como o Na+, K+ e Ba2+. Os metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) são uma nova classe de materiais cristalinos e recebem actualmente bastante interesse devido às suas potencialidades para serem aplicados como adsorventes. O carácter maioritariamente orgânico da superfície interna dos MOFs oferece um potencial sem precedentes para melhorar e ajustar a afinidade para adsorbatos aromáticos. Este trabalho representa um dos primeiros estudos acerca do uso de MOFs na separação por adsorção em fase gasosa dos isómeros de xileno. Neste trabalho, apresenta-se um estudo detalhado do equilíbrio de adsorção mono- e multicomponente dos isómeros de xileno e do etilbenzeno no MOF Zn(BDC)(Dabco)0:5. Os resultados obtidos, indicam que o MOF em estudo apresenta duas categorias de sítios activos de adsorção e que a forma como as moléculas se empacotam na estrutura microporosa do sólido pode ser determinante na separação. Além da baixa selectividade, o valor elevado das entalpias de adsorção, comparativamente aos zeólitos, é prejudicial do ponto de vista da operação de processos adsorptivos. The separation of mixed C8 alkylaromatic compounds is one of the most challenging issues in the chemical industry because of its direct link with PET manufacture. Distillation is only feasible for the removal of o-xylene; it fails for the other C8 alkylaromatic compounds because of the similarity of their boiling points. Besides crystallization, which has a poor efficiency, adsorption is widely used and is operated industrially in simulated moving bed processes. Zeolites X and Y exchanged with cations such as Na+, K+ e Ba2+ are used in such processes. Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) are a new class of microporous crystalline materials and currently receive much attention in regard to adsorption applications. The mainly organic character of the inner surface of MOFs offers unprecedented potential for enhancing and fine-tuning the affinity for aromatic adsorbates. This work represents one of the first uses of MOFs in the separation by adsorption of xylene isomers under vapor conditions. This work reports a detailed experimental study of single and multicomponent adsorption equilibrium of xylene isomers and ethylbenzene in the MOF Zn (BDC)(Dabco)0:5. The results arising from this study lead us to conclude that the MOF has two categories of adsorption sites and that the stacking of the molecules in the microporous structure is crucial in the separation. Besides the poor selectivity, the high value of the adsorption enthalpy of aromatics in this MOF, in comparison to zeolites, is not beneficial with respect to the operation of adsorption processes.

Neste trabalho foi estudada a utilização de plasma (descarga luminescente anormal de corrente contínua - DLA) para a extração de ligantes e a sinterização de metal duro, WC - 10% Co. A pesquisa iniciou-se com a obtenção de amostras de metal duro, através da compactação uniaxial em matriz e da moldagem por injeção. Objetivando a definição das diversas variáveis da descarga, foi realizada uma caracterização do processo de aquecimento por plasma, obtendo-se as condições para viabilizar os processos térmicos estudados. Também, foi estudada a viabilidade da extração de ligantes por plasma, avaliando a influência dos parâmetros: temperatura e tempo da extração, mistura gasosa e taxa de aquecimento. Posteriormente foi estudada a sinterização em plasma (DLA) em diversos estágios da fase de aquecimento, até a temperatura de 13800C, caracterizando o processo através do parâmetro de densificação, análises por microscopia ótica e eletrônica e difração de raios X. Concomitantemente, estudou-se o efeito da utilização de distintos materiais como cátodo e ânodo da descarga, bem como de distintas misturas gasosas. Observou-se a formação de filmes sobre o metal duro, devido ao depósito de átomos provenientes do cátodo ("sputtering"). Finalmente, foi medido o teor de carbono no metal duro durante o seu processamento, e foi estudada, no plasma, a manutenção do teor de carbono estequiométrico usando uma mistura gasosa de Ar-H2-CH4. Nestes estudos constatou-se a formação de cristais de diamante na superfície do metal duro, concomitantemente a sua sinterização. A partir dos resultados obtidos, conclui-se que a utilização de plasma (DLA) para o processamento térmico do metal duro, em um ciclo único, é viável e eficaz.

O Estigma é definido como um atributo profundamente depreciativo, que aos olhos da sociedade serve para desacreditar a pessoa que o possui, contribuindo com a discriminação social. Durante séculos a pessoa com doença mental se sentiu estigmatizada porque ser vista como louca pelo grupo cultural com quem convive. Esta forma de produção cultural do estigma se dá de modo similar no Brasil. Desta forma, as equipes dos serviços substitutivos territoriais, como o CAPS, devem realizar ações que mude a questão cultural em relação à loucura para poder alcançar a superação do estigma da doença mental. Para que isso possa acontecer, os profissionais de saúde mental tem de reconhecer os usuários dos serviços substitutivos territoriais como cidadãos, caso contrário eles reforçarão o estigma e a discriminação já prevalentes na sociedade. A equipe multidisciplinar dos CAPS tem um papel importante para ampliar debates sobre os direitos e sobre a cidadania das pessoas com doença mental no seu território de atuação, informando às pessoas com e sem doença mental e aos empregadores sobre o propósito de diminuir a discriminação/estigma relacionado à doença mental. Esta equipe deve aproveitar as oportunidades dentro e fora do campo de trabalho em saúde mental para promover a inclusão social, a reabilitação psicossocial e a superação do estigma da doença mental na sociedade através de ações estratégicas no seu território de atuação. Desta maneira buscou-se contribuir para a formulação de ações de reabilitação psicossocial que contemplem a proposta de superação do estigma no território. A finalidade deste estudo é caracterizar as ações de superação do estigma desenvolvidas pela equipe multidisciplinar dos CAPS adultos e promover a sua reprodução por meio dos resultados do estudo. Para atingir esta finalidade os objetivos específicos foram: conhecer a compreensão dos profissionais das equipes multidisciplinares dos CAPS Adultos sobre o conceito de estigma da loucura; identificar as estratégias de intervenção para superar o estigma da doença mental realizadas por equipes multidisciplinares dos CAPS adultos em seu território de atuação e; analisar a possibilidade e a dificuldade das equipes multidisciplinares para a implementação das ações de superação do estigma. Nesta investigação optou-se por utilizar como base teórica a teoria sobre o estigma de Evining Goffman e como categoria analítica Reabilitação Psicossocial. O estudo foi realizado com os profissionais de saúde mental das equipes multidisciplinares dos CAPS adultos. Para a coleta de dados foram utilizadas entrevistas semi-estruturadas, enquanto que para apuração dos dados foi utilizada análise temática, a qual destacou como categorias empíricas: 1) processo de saúde-doença mental; 2) processo de estigma e exclusão social; e 3) processo de trabalho em saúde mental. Ao final do estudo foi possível perceber que as necessidades em saúde são extremamente dinâmicas tendo sua construção marcada social e historicamente, exigindo portanto que os serviços tenham a capacidade de desenvolver estratégias também dinâmicas e sensíveis, capazes de superar as ações rotineiras, passando para arranjos de escutar, reinterpretar e trabalhar as necessidades de saúde. Considera-se, portanto, que a proximidade dos CAPS com a sociedade facilita a inclusão social e a superação do estigma da doença mental e esta ajuda a transformar o imaginário social, e vice-versa. Observou-se que é preciso ter maior suporte do governo e das políticas públicas para que as equipes multidisciplinares consigam difundir as ações de superação do estigma da doença mental no seu território de atuação, este suporte pode ser oferecido através de campanhas para superação do estigma. Verificou-se também que as ações desempenhadas pelos profissionais entrevistados é o início para a superação do estigma da doença mental, mas é necessário que tenham suporte da lei e de várias instâncias da sociedade. O presente estudo reitera que o CAPS é um serviço-resposta da sociedade ao modelo manicomial, porém não resolve todos os problemas da sociedade em relação a loucura, e sim possibilita espaços para articular tensões, conflitos e possibilidades. Desta maneira compreende-se que os CAPS estão caminhando para a superação do estigma da doença mental nos seus territórios de atuação, através da promoção: de cidadania, da circulação no território e do poder contratual das pessoas com doença mental.
Stigma is defined as an attribute that is profoundly demeaning in the eyes of society, which serves to discredit the person who owns it, contributing to social discrimination. For centuries the people with mental illness felt themselves stigmatized because they were seen as crazy by the cultural group in which they live. This type of cultural production of stigma occurs similarly in Brazil. Thus, territorial substitutive services teams, such as CAPS (Portuguese acronym for Psychosocial Care Center), must take action to change the cultural status related to madness in order to achieve the overcoming of the mental illness stigma. In order to achieve this, mental health professionals must recognize the territorial substitute service users as citizens, otherwise they will reinforce the stigma and discrimination already prevalent in society. In this way, the multidisciplinary team of CAPS has an important role in expanding debates about rights and citizenship of people with mental illness in their territory of operation, telling people with and without mental illness and employers about the purpose of reducing discrimination/stigma related to mental illness. The team should take advantage of opportunities within and outside the field of work on mental health to promote social inclusion, psychosocial rehabilitation and the overcoming of the mental illness stigma in society through strategic actions in its territory of operation. Said that, the author aims to contribute to the formulation of actions that address the psychosocial rehabilitation proposed to overcome the stigma in the territory. The purpose of this study is to characterize the actions developed by a multidisciplinary team of CAPS (CAPS adult) to overcome stigma, and to promote the reproduction of such actions by means of the study of the results. In order to achieve this, specific objectives were defined: to know the understanding of the multidisciplinary teams of professionals of CAPS (CAPS adult) on the concept of madness stigma; to identify intervention strategies to overcome the mental illness stigma conducted by multidisciplinary teams CAPS (CAPS adult) in their territory of action and; to analyze the possibility and difficulty of multidisciplinary teams for the implementation of actions to overcome the stigma. In this investigation the author choose to use for reference the psychosocial rehabilitation analytical categories. The study was conducted with mental health professionals in multidisciplinary teams of Itaim Bibi, Perdizes and Lapa CAPS (CAPS adult). The data was acquired trough semi-structured interviews and them submitted to thematic analysis to proceed with the assessment of data. In this investigation we chose to use the theory as the theoretical basis of stigma evining Goffman as an analytical category and Psychosocial Rehabilitation. The study was conducted with mental health professionals from multidisciplinary teams of adults CAPS. For data collection were used semi-structured interviews, while for the calculation of the data was used thematic analysis, which highlighted how empirical categories: 1) the health-mental illness, 2) the process of stigma and social exclusion, and 3 ) process of mental health work. At the end of the study it was revealed that health needs are extremely dynamic with its construction marked social and historically, thus requiring that the services have the ability to develop strategies also dynamic and sensitive, able to overcome the routine actions, passing arrangements listen, reinterpret and work health needs. It is considered, therefore, that the proximity of CAPS with society facilitates social inclusion and overcoming the stigma of mental illness and this helps to transform the social imaginary, and vice versa. Noted that it is necessary to have greater support from the government and public policy for Multidisciplinary teams are able to spread the actions to overcome the stigma of mental illness in its service territory, this support can be offered through campaigns to overcome the stigma. It was also found that the actions performed by the professionals interviewed is beginning to overcome the stigma of mental illness, but it is necessary that they support the law and various levels of society. The present study confirms that the CAPS is a service-society response to the asylum, but does not solve all the problems of society in relation to madness, but allows spaces to articulate tensions, conflicts and possibilities. Thus it is understood that the CAPS are moving to overcome the stigma of mental illness in their territories of performance, by promoting: citizenship, the circulation in the territory and the bargaining power of people with mental illness.

Na rede de aten??o psicossocial brasileira, os profissionais de sa?de s?o atores importantes no processo de transforma??o das pol?ticas p?blicas em sa?de mental entre os diversos servi?os. Na realidade do hospital psiqui?trico, entende-se a necessidade de ampliar o debate em torno do atual contexto de pr?ticas desenvolvidas. O estudo objetivou analisar o processo de reforma psiqui?trica e a pol?tica de sa?de mental no Estado do Rio Grande do Norte (RN) a partir dos perfis e pr?ticas dos profissionais de n?vel superior em dois hospitais psiqui?tricos. Pesquisa transversal e descritiva, com dados quantitativos e qualitativos, realizada em dois hospitais psiqui?tricos do RN. O universo da popula??o alvo foi de 95 profissionais, considerando-se a margem de erro de 8%, taxa de n?o resposta e os crit?rios de inclus?o: possuir v?nculo efetivo com a institui??o por meio de aprova??o em concurso p?blico por, no m?nimo, seis meses, sendo servidor estadual ou municipal; possuir uma carga hor?ria semanal m?nima de 20 horas no servi?o; participar diretamente de atendimento e/ou atividades com pacientes e familiares. A amostra final foi de 60 profissionais. Utilizou-se como instrumento de coleta de dados um question?rio de perguntas fechadas e semiabertas sobre o perfil socioecon?mico, as pol?ticas, as pr?ticas e a forma??o em sa?de mental. Tabularam-se os dados quantitativos no software estat?stico SPSS e para an?lise utilizou-se estat?stica simples e bivariada, do tipo qui-quadrado, adotando-se o n?vel de signific?ncia valor p<0,05. Para an?lise dos dados utilizou-se a an?lise de conte?do de Bardin. Os achados qualitativos obtidos com as quest?es semiabertas no Analyse Lexicale par Contexte d'un Ensemble de Segment de Texte (ALCESTE) foram agrupados em quatro eixos tem?ticos: Atua??o profissional em sa?de mental; Forma??o em sa?de mental; Cen?rios da reforma psiqui?trica e o hospital psiqui?trico; Pol?ticas e pr?ticas em sa?de mental: desafios para profissionais no hospital. O perfil dos profissionais revelou a maioria do sexo feminino (89,7%), enfermeiras (36,7%), faixa et?ria de 50-59 anos (42,9%), carga hor?ria de 40 horas semanais (52,4%), tempo de conclus?o da gradua??o de seis a 15 anos (57%) e 21,4% mencionaram ter especializa??o em sa?de mental. Sobre as pr?ticas desenvolvidas, no atendimento individual encontrou-se associa??o entre quem n?o constr?i ou faz parcialmente o projeto terap?utico associado a quem realiza cuidados de observa??o e anota??o. No atendimento familiar, obteve-se cuidado de consulta na crise; e, no atendimento de grupo a recrea??o. Na an?lise dos eixos tem?ticos observou-se que apesar de mudan?as identificadas nos perfis e pr?ticas dos profissionais de n?vel superior nos servi?os de aten??o ? sa?de mental, com a implementa??o de novas pol?ticas p?blicas para a ?rea, os achados sugerem a conflu?ncia de assimetrias e diverg?ncias na atua??o das equipes nos hospitais psiqui?tricos, ? dificuldades na gest?o do servi?os, as reinterna??es frequentes, reduzido quantitativo de servi?os e equipamentos dispon?veis, ? alta demanda de usu?rios, desarticula??o da rede de aten??o psicossocial, e a pr?pria escassez de recursos humanos qualificados para compor esses servi?os. Assim, os cen?rios evidenciados circunscrevem, em parte, o descompasso pol?tico e ideol?gico atual do processo de reforma psiqui?trica nacional que nega o papel da assist?ncia realizada no ambiente hospitalar, embora n?o tenha avan?ando o suficiente com a cria??o de novos servi?os que justifiquem a extin??o total dessa institui??o
In the Brazilian network of psychosocial care, health professionals are important actors in the process of transformation of mental health public policies among various services. In the reality of psychiatric hospitals, one should understand the need to expand the debate about the current context of practices developed. This study aimed at analyzing the process of psychiatric reform and the mental health policy in the State of Rio Grande do Norte (RN) from the profiles and practices of higher-level professionals in two psychiatric hospitals. This is a cross-sectional and descriptive research, with quantitative and qualitative data, conducted in two psychiatric hospitals of RN. The universe of the target population was 95 professionals, taking into account the margin of error of 8%, non-response rate and the inclusion criteria: holding effective link with the institution by means of approval in public examination for, at least, six months, being state or municipal servant; having a minimum weekly workload of 20 hours in service; participating in care and/or activities with patients and families in a direct way. The final sample consisted of 60 professionals. The tool for data collection was a questionnaire with closed and semi-open questions about socioeconomic profile, and mental health policies, practices and training. Quantitative data were tabulated in the statistical software SPSS, and simple and bivariate statistics, chi-square type, was used for analysis by adopting the significance level with the value p<0,05. In order to analyze data, the content analysis of Bardin was used. The qualitative findings obtained with the semi-open questions in Analyse Lexicale par Context d'un Ensemble de Segments de Texte (ALCESTE) were grouped into four thematic axes: Professional action in mental health; Mental health training; Scenarios of psychiatric reform and psychiatric hospitals; Mental health policies and practices: challenges for professionals in hospitals. The profile of professionals has revealed the majority of women (89,7%), nurses (36,7%), aged 50-59 years (42,9%), weekly workload of 40 hours (52,4% ), time of completion of graduation from six to 15 years (57%), and 21,4% reported to have specialization in mental health. Regarding the practices developed in individual care, it was found an association between those who do not build or partially conducts the therapeutic project and those who conduct care related to observation and annotation. In family care, it was obtained care consultation during crisis; and, in group care, recreational activities. In the analysis of thematic axes, it was noted that, despite changes identified in the profiles and practices of higher-level professionals in care services for mental health, with the implementation of new public policies for this field, the findings indicate the confluence of asymmetries and divergences in the actions of the teams in psychiatric hospitals, difficulties in managing services, frequent readmissions, reduced quantitative of available services and equipment, high demand of users, disarticulation of the network of psychosocial care, and the very shortage of skilled human resources to compose these services. Accordingly, the evidenced scenarios partially outline the current political and ideological mismatch of the national process of psychiatric reform that denies the role of care actions conducted within hospitals, although it has not gone far enough with the creation of new services that justify the total extinction of this institution
