ABSTRACT Aim The aim of this study is to assess the periodontal health status and its determinants among a group of mentally disabled children in Khartoum State and to compare it with a control group of children of normal intelligence. Methods Thirty seven mentally disabled children aged 8-10 years were examined at five centres of mentally disabled children in Khartoum State. A control group with normal intelligence quotient of a similar age and socioeconomic status was selected from schools nearby the centres visited. Both mentally disabled children and the children in the control group were examined for their plaque index, gingival index and periodontal pocket depth. A comparison was made between the mentally disabled children and the healthy children as well as between the subgroups of the mentally disabled children (mild, moderate, and severe). Questionnaires concerning the degree of mental disability, level of parent education, role of parents toward child oral health, were also used. Results The results revealed that the mentally disabled children showed higher scores of plaque and gingival index (1.9, 1.7 respectively) when compared with the plaque and gingival index of the control group (0.6, 0.6 respectively). No increase in gingival sulcus depth in both study and control group was found. According to the degree of mental disability there was statistically significant difference in plaque and gingival index among the mild, moderate and severe subgroups (P=0.001), the plaque and gingival index tend to increase with the severity of mental retardation. Conclusion. Mentally disabled children showed more plaque when compared with healthy controls. Periodontal disease was more prevalent among mentally disabled children as presented in the form of gingivitis and the degree of severity depends on the degree of mental disability.

This manual aims to make it easier for teachers to deal with the problems of mentally disabled children in terms of social interaction. The development of the teacher's manual uses the 4-D model of Thiagarajan, S, Semmeln, D, S & Semmel MI (1974) which has been modified with the following stages: define, design, and develop. Data collection techniques are used in assessment instruments to obtain validation data, observations to obtain data on children's abilities during learning activities, and teacher responses to the personal social tutoring teacher manual with role-playing techniques. Data analysis used quantitative description. The results showed that using the teacher's manual in personal social guidance with role-playing techniques increased the social interaction of mentally disabled children. After giving ten times treatments to mentally disabled children, the social interaction of mentally disabled children increased. Mentally disabled children were able to interact with their friends step by step. Step independently. This can be seen from the results of the practical value of the teacher's manual is 2.7, and the value of the effectiveness of the teacher's manual is 3.0. So we can conclude that using the teacher's manual in personal social guidance with role-playing techniques to increase the social interaction of mentally disabled children in inclusive elementary schools is feasible.

Aim: The purpose of this research was to compare the effectiveness of Zekr therapy in Islam with mindfulness therapy on anxiety and life expectancy of mothers with mentally disabled children in Meybod city. Method: The design of the present research was applied in terms of its purpose and the method of conducting it was quasi-experimental with a pre-test and post-test design with two experimental groups and one control group. The statistical population of the research is all mothers with mentally disabled children in Meybod city. Among the statistical population, 45 mothers with intellectually disabled children were selected in a targeted and available manner and randomly divided into three groups in the form of two groups of 15 experimental people (30 people) and control group (15 people). Beck's anxiety questionnaire was used to collect and measure mothers' anxiety, and mothers' life expectancy was measured with Snyder et al.'s questionnaire. Then exercise protocols (remembering therapy and mindfulness) were implemented. To answer the research hypotheses, the covariance tests were performed at the five percent error level using SPSS software version 26. Results: The results of covariance analysis for mindfulness treatment showed that 62.2% of life expectancy scores of mothers with intellectually disabled children are explained. Also, 55.6% of the anxiety scores of mothers with mentally retarded children are explained based on the mindfulness model. Also, 59.9% of Zekr therapy protocol scores are explained on the variable of life expectancy of mothers with mentally retarded children. Finally, according to the eta squared value (0.746), 74.6% of the scores of the Zekr therapy protocol are explained on the variable of anxiety of mothers with mentally retarded children. From the analysis of Shefe's follow-up test, it can be concluded that the mean of anxiety in the dhikr therapy and mindfulness group has decreased significantly compared to the control group, but the two experimental groups have no significant difference from each other (α=0.05). It can also be concluded that the average life expectancy in the Zekr therapy and mindfulness group has decreased significantly compared to the control group, but the two experimental groups have no significant difference from each other (α=0.05). Conclusion: The obtained results indicated that both the mentioned treatment courses were equally effective in reducing anxiety and increasing the life expectancy of mothers with mentally disabled children.

Mentally retarded children generally have problems in communication, interaction, and empathy. Children with mental retardation also look different physically, mentally and socially emotionally. Children with developmental delays physically, mentally, cognitively, the handling of these mentally retarded children requires a very special approach. The obstacles experienced by mentally retarded children make it difficult for them to do both homework, especially jobs that require expertise. But despite having obstacles they still have the ability to do simple jobs. To develop the abilities possessed by mentally retarded children, training and assistance are needed. With this training and assistance, it is hoped that mentally retarded children will have the ability to work. The training and mentoring are given specifically, step by step until the child is really able to master one job. Every child has different abilities, so a very adequate and varied training advice is needed. Research with the process of singing activities was carried out with several methods applied in data collection, namely: (1) observation method, (2) library method, (3) qualitative descriptive method. The singing activity was considered quite successful. Success indicators can be seen and evaluated through children's daily activity units which are recorded as a reference to determine the development and progress of children in each activity carried out. AbstractThe oral cavity is a biologically significant and complex site of the human body. It is a gateway into the internal environment of the organism. There are many processes, such as the beginning of digestion, speech creation, and sensory perception of taste. Oral health is closely related to the general health of a person. The oral cavity contains an enormous number of microorganisms that can cause various diseases. Oral bacteria are responsible for diseases in the mouth, but can also seriously harm human health. The oral microbiome also serves as an indicator of health, respectively morbidity of the human organism. Compared to healthy children, mentally disabled children suffer from many congenital and acquired diseases and disorders that affect their overall and oral health. These children require a specific approach to the examination, but also to the therapy. Therefore, it is necessary to pay attention to the prevention of oral diseases in children, whether healthy or mentally disabled.

Abstract Background and aims : Growth in children with mental retardation differs from that of normal children, but majority of studies have been performed in western countries and have focused on the early years of life. The purpose of this study therefore was to evaluate the growth pattern of male mentally retarded adolescents from North India and compare it with that of normal male children. Materials and methods : Two hundred institutionalized intellectually disabled (I.Q. less than 70) and two hundred normal male children between 10-20 years of age from North India were selected and the physical growth parameters i.e. height and weight were measured and Body Mass Index (BMI) was calculated in all subjects. The mentally retarded and normal groups of boys were categorized separately on the basis of their age into one-year age groups. The data was then compared between the two groups using 2 sample't' test. Results : The results indicated that the mean height and weight of mentally retarded boys during adolescence was significantly retarded as compared to normal subjects. However, the intellectually disabled and the normal group do not show any significant difference in their body fat during adolescence. The mean height and weight gain of mentally retarded children during adolescence (11-20 years) however did not vary from that of normal children. Conclusions : Thus, the physical growth retardation in children with intellectual disabilities occurs during early childhood i.e. before 11 years of age.

Streszczenie:
The ability to orientate oneself in space is one of the basic requirements for the harmonious development of a person. The problem of human orientation in space is very complex. It includes both ideas about the size and shape of objects and the ability to distinguish the location of objects in space, and understanding different spatial relationships. The concept of spatial orientation includes the evaluation of distances, sizes, shapes, mutual position of objects and their position relative to the orienting object. Spatial orientation is significantly impaired in mentally handicapped children, since the impairment of mental development not only limits their motor activity, but also negatively affects the development of time representations, musculoskeletal functions and leads to a decrease in compensatory processes. The purpose of this study is to identify spatial orientation and constructive praxis disorders in normally developing and mentally retarded children aged 8-11 years. Materials and Methods. The methodological basis of this research investigation was scholarly literature devoted to studying nervous functions in children with mental development disorders and interhemispheric asymmetry of the brain, regulation of these functions, identifying difficulties, modeling the system of work with these children and constructive praxis disorders in normally developing and mentally retarded children aged 8-11 years (Boguslavskaya, Miroshnichenko, 2019, Maryutina, Yermolaev 2001, Reuter-Lorenz and others, 2000, Azatyan2022). The study was conducted in the research laboratory of the Faculty of Special and Inclusive Education at the Armenian State Pedagogical University after Kh. Abovyan and research laboratory in Armenian state institute of physical culture and sport. A total of 131 children aged between 8 and 11 years participated in the study, including 73 healthy schoolchildren and 58 children with mild mental retardation. The degree of intellectual disability was assessed based on medical indications, degree of social adjustment, level of intellectual functioning, and learning outcomes in special education classes. Each category of participants was divided into 2 age groups: 8-9 years old and 10-11 years old. Results. The article discusses the main issues of studies of spatial orientation and constructive praxis in normally developing and mentally retarded children aged between 8 and 11 years, provides a scientific rationale for the problem, taking into account previous research investigations. However, the problem of mentally retarded and normally developing children in this age group remains virtually unexplored. Analysis of research findings allows the authors to identify and summarize the following important points: - mentally handicapped primary school children lag behind their healthy peers in all indicators examined; - 8- and 9-year-olds have less developed practical spatial orientation skills than their older peers; - Intellectually disabled peers have underdeveloped spatial orientation skills and constructive practice, making it difficult to understand spatial relationships between objects. The experimental study of task performance revealed interesting data, which will serve as a basis for developing the necessary means, methods and conditions for the development of elementary practical orientation in mentally disabled primary schoolchildren. The authors have uncovered violations of spatial orientation and constructive praxis in normally developing and intellectually disabled children aged 8-11 years that highlight the limited and incomplete verbalization of spatial relationships of objects in intellectually disabled children. The listed errors in general are reduced to the use by mentally retarded schoolchildren of imprecise, vague spatial characteristics instead of more differentiated ones. Conclusions. Thus, the results of the conducted experimental research testify to the insufficient development of the elementary practical orientation and understanding of the spatial relationships of objects in mentally retarded children of primary school age.

The article presents an analysis of the results of studying the cognitive processes of mentally disabled schoolchildren. Based on this analysis, the levels of formation of cognitive processes are identified and characterised. The basis for determining the levels is the number of fully correctly completed tasks. Mentally retarded children in forms I-V revealed low, below average or average levels of formation of cognitive processes. As general manifestations, difficulties in the logical processing of information and lack of drawing conclusions due to the lack of formation of thinking and mental operations can be noted; difficulties in retaining speech information in memory, as well as a reduced ability to regulate their activity were also evident. The remaining manifestations differ depending on the level of formation of cognitive processes. In this regard, the conditions of correctional and pedagogic work with the mentally disabled in correctional classes and at Maths lessons are highlighted.

Introducing animals and their characteristics to mentally disabled students is a complicated matter. Mental retardation is a condition where a person's intellectual and cognitive intelligence is below average, which causes limitations in thinking, solving problems, remembering, and easily losing focus. Because of this, mentally disabled students develop more slowly than normal children their age. To help overcome developmental delays and improve their memory, special treatment and education are needed that suit their needs. Schools can utilize Augmented Reality (AR) technology as an alternative educational tool to make the teaching and learning process at school more fun, interesting and interactive so that it can leave a deep impression on students. This research aims to design and build an application to introduce animals by applying augmented reality technology. This research uses the Multimedia Development Life Cycle (MDLC) method; in this method, there are six stages: concept, design, material collection, design, testing, and distribution, with the testing method using black box testing. This research results in an Android-based augmented reality application for animal recognition for mentally disabled students. This application can make the teaching and learning process more interesting and enjoyable for students and make it easier for teachers to introduce animals and their characteristics.
