Streszczenie:
The article presents a mathematical model of the wear of contact strips of pantograph which is destined to define a diagnostic parameter for determining pantograph of the freight electric locomotives in the Republic of Uzbekistan. Existing mathematical models of pantograph - contact network interactions are considered in the form of multidimensional models with reduced masses. The Matlab - Simulink tools can be used for solving the mathematical models. Computer programs for solving mathematical models enable efficient calculations at high accuracy. During the simulation, the current pantograph-contact network system was considered as a twodimensional model with two degrees of freedom. The simulation results helped determine the diagnostic parameter of the “vibration acceleration” of the contact strips. Finding a diagnostic parameter is based on vibrational movements of the pantograph skid interacting with the contact network.

Streszczenie:
Mathematical modelling in environmental biotechnology has been a traditionally difficult resource to access for researchers and students without programming expertise. The great degree of flexibility required from model implementation platforms to be suitable for research applications restricts their use to programming expert users. More user friendly software packages however do not normally incorporate the necessary flexibility for most research applications. This work presents a methodology based on Excel and Matlab-Simulink for both flexible and accessible implementation of mathematical models by researchers with and without programming expertise. The models are almost fully defined in an Excel file in which the names and values of the state variables and parameters are easily created. This information is automatically processed in Matlab to create the model structure and almost immediate model simulation, after only a minimum Matlab code definition, is possible. The framework proposed also provides programming expert researchers with a highly flexible and modifiable platform on which to base more complex model implementations. The method takes advantage of structural generalities in most mathematical models of environmental bioprocesses while enabling the integration of advanced elements (e.g. heuristic functions, correlations). The methodology has already been successfully used in a number of research studies.

Owing to their robust structure, induction motors are preferred to be used under difficult working conditions. Therefore, various faults may occur in the motor due to unexpected forces during the operations. Obtaining the data through experimental methods by physically creating faults in the induction motors, and analyzing their behavior is not efficient in terms of cost and time for educational purposes. Considering the above negative situation, in this paper, mathematical models have been developed in the dq0 stationary reference frame expressing three-phase stator windings short-circuit fault and broken rotor bar fault in induction motors. The proposed models are faster as compared to the other analytical models in terms of computation due to the rotor position independence of the inductance matrix. The faulty induction motor mathematical models have been implemented in the MATLAB/SIMULINK software environment with detailed explanations of each faulty model’s subsystem. As a visual laboratory that can be used as an educational tool for the analysis of a three-phase faulty induction motor, a graphical user interface application has been developed in MATLAB/GUIDE, which allows users to simulate models from a single interface. As a case study, the behaviors of faulty induction motors in transient and steady states have been simulated in different severity scenarios of the faults. The park vector method has been used as a fault diagnosis approach to investigate fault types and the fault severity effects on the park vector pattern in each fault scenario. In addition, to observe the success of the developed Simulink toolboxes, they were used at Marmara University through courses in electrical machinery and evaluated by the graduated students at the end of the semester.

To develop an application in MATLAB to help the producer select dairy goats, two data processing techniques were used; mathematical profiling and digital image processing. Ten (10) lactating goats were sampled, and data were collected for 60 days, divided into three periods: initial, middle, and final lactation. Photographs were taken directly from the udder at a distance of 50 cm horizontally, and a height of 60 cm, and the main udder measurements were taken. A database was created with the photographic information and processed in GeoGebra and MATLAB software to estimate udder volumes. The results showed that there is no statistical significance between the methods used to calculate udder size (P>0.05), and the best mathematical model that related the variables studied was the polynomial model of degree 6 (R²=0.881).

Streszczenie:

In computational science it is common to describe dynamic systems by mathematical models in forms of differential or integral equations. These models may contain parameters that have to be computed for the model to be complete. For the special type of ordinary differential equations studied in this thesis, the resulting parameter estimation problem is a separable nonlinear least squares problem with equality constraints. This problem can be solved by iteration, but due to complicated computations of derivatives and the existence of several local minima, so called short-cut methods may be an alternative. These methods are based on simplified versions of the original problem. An algorithm, called the modified Kaufman algorithm, is proposed and it takes the separability into account. Moreover, different kinds of discretizations and formulations of the optimization problem are discussed as well as the effect of ill-conditioning.

Computation of parameters often includes as a part solution of linear system of equations Ax = b. The corresponding pseudoinverse solution depends on the properties of the matrix A and vector b. The singular value decomposition of A can then be used to construct error propagation matrices and by use of these it is possible to investigate how changes in the input data affect the solution x. Theoretical error bounds based on condition numbers indicate the worst case but the use of experimental error analysis makes it possible to also have information about the effect of a more limited amount of perturbations and in that sense be more realistic. It is shown how the effect of perturbations can be analyzed by a semi-experimental analysis. The analysis combines the theory of the error propagation matrices with an experimental error analysis based on randomly generated perturbations that takes the structure of A into account

Thesis (DTech (Electrical Engineering))--Cape Peninsula University of Technology, 2018.
Industrial processes tend to have very complex mathematical models that in most instances result in very model specific optimal estimation and designs of control strategies. Such models have many composition components, energy compartments and energy inventories that result in many process variables that are intertwined and too complex to separate from one another. Most of the derived mathematical process models, based on the application of first principles, are nonlinear and incorporate unknown parameters and unmeasurable states. This fact results in difficulties in design and implementation of controllers for a majority of industrial processes. There is a need for the existing parameter and state estimation methods to be further developed and for new methods to be developed in order to simplify the process of parameters or states calculation and be applicable for real-time implementation of various controllers for nonlinear systems. The thesis describes the research work done on developing new parameter and state estimation methods and algorithms for bilinear and nonlinear processes. Continuous countercurrent ion exchange (CCIX) process for desalination of water is considered as a case study of a process that can be modelled as a bilinear system with affine parameters or as purely nonlinear system. Many models of industrial processes can be presented in such a way. The ion exchange process model is developed based on the mass balance principle as a state space bilinear model according to the state and control variables. The developed model is restructured according to its parameters in order to formulate two types of parameter estimation problem – with process models linear and nonlinear according to the parameters. The two models developed are a bilinear model with affine and a nonlinear according to the parameters model. Four different methods are proposed for the first case: gradient-based optimization method that uses the process output measurements, optimization gradient based method that uses the full state vector measurements, direct solution using the state vector measurements, and Lagrange’s optimization technique. Two methods are proposed for the second case: direct solution of the model equation using MATLAB software and Lagrange’s optimisation techniques.

Streszczenie:
Thesis (MTech (Electrical Engineering))--Cape Peninsula University of Technology, 2009
This project was started as a result of strict environmental and health regulations together with a demand tor cost effective operation of wastewater treatment plants (VVWTPs). The main aim of this project is how to keep effluent concentration below a prescribed limit at the lowest possible cost. Due to large fluctuations in the quality and quantity of the influent concentrations, traditional control methods are not adequate to achieve this aim The major drawback with these methods is that the disturbances affect the process before the controller has time to correct the error (Olsson and Newell, 1999: 454). This problem is addressed through the use of modern control systems. Modern control systems are model based predictive algorithms arranged as feed-forward controllers (Olsson and Newell. 1999: 454). Normally a controller is equipped with a constant set point; the goal In this project is to calculate an optimal DO trajectory that may be sampled to provide a varying optimal set-point for the Activated Sludge Process, In this project an optimal control problem Is formulated using DO concentration as a control variable. This requires a model of the process to be controlled a mathematical expressions of the limitations on the process input and output variables and finally the objective functional. which consists of the objectives of the control. The structures of the Benchmark plant (developed within the COST 682 working group) and the Athlone WWTPs are used to implement this opt.mat control strategy in MATLAB. The plant's full models are developed based on the mass balance principle incorporating the activated sludge biological models: ,ASM1, ASM2, ASM2d and ASM3 (developed by the IWA working groups). To be able to develop a method that may later on be used for online control, the full models are reduced based on the technique In Lukasse (1996). To ensure that the reduced models keep the same prediction capabilities as the full models, parameters of the reduced models are calculated based on the Least Squares principle, The formulated optimal control problem is solved based on the decompostion-coorcdination method that involves time decomposition in a two layer structure. MATLAB software [5 developed to solve the problems for parameter estimation. fun and reduced mode! simulation. and optimal control calculation for the considered different cases of plant structures and biological models. The obtained optimal 00 trajectories produced the effluent state trajectories within prescribed requirements. These DO trajectories may be implemented in different SCADA systems to be tracked as set points or desired trajectories by different types of controllers.

Riechel, Andrew T. "Force-Feasible Workspace Analysis and Motor Mount Disturbance Compensation for Point-Mass Cable Robots". Thesis, Georgia Institute of Technology, 2004. http://hdl.handle.net/1853/5243.

Pełny tekst źródła
Streszczenie:
Cable-actuated manipulators (or 'cable robots') constitute a relatively new classification of robots which use motors, located at fixed remote locations, to manipulate an end-effector by extending or retracting cables. These manipulators possess a number of unique properties which make them proficient with tasks involving high payloads, large workspaces, and dangerous or contaminated environments. However, a number of challenges exist which have limited the mainstream emergence of cable robots. This thesis addresses two of the most important of these issues-- workspace analysis and disturbance compensation. Workspace issues are particularly important, as many large-scale applications require the end-effector to operate in regions of a particular shape, and to exert certain minimum forces throughout those regions. The 'Force-Feasible Workspace' represents the set of end-effector positions, for a given robot design, for which the robot can exert a set of required forces on its environment. This can be considered as the robot's 'usable' workspace, and an analysis of this workspace shape for point-mass cable robots is therefore presented to facilitate optimal cable robot design. Numerical simulation results are also presented to validate the analytical results, and to aid visualization of certain complex workspace shapes. Some cable robot applications may require mounting motors to moving bases (i.e. mobile robots) or other surfaces which are subject to disturbances (i.e. helicopters or crane arms). Such disturbances can propagate to the end-effector and cause undesired motion, so the rejection of motor mount disturbances is also of interest. This thesis presents a strategy for measuring these disturbances and compensating for them. General approaches and implementation issues are explored qualitatively with a simple one-degree-of-freedom prototype (including a strategy for mitigating accelerometer drift), and quantitative simulation results are presented as a proof of concept.

Streszczenie:
Current transformer saturation will cause the secondary current distortion. When saturation occurs, the secondary current will not be linearly proportional to the primary current, which may lead to maloperation of protection devices. This thesis researches and tests two detecting methods: Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) and Wavelet Transform based methods. Comparing these two methods, FFT has a better performance in steady state saturation, and Wavelet Transform can determine singularity to provide the moment of distortion. The Jiles-Atherton (J-A) theory of ferromagnetic hysteresis is one approach used in electromagnetics transient modeling. With decades of development, the J-A model has evolved into different versions. The author summarizes the different models and implements J-A model in both MATLAB and Simulink.

Speech is intuitive, fast and easy to generate, but it is hard to index and easy to forget. What is more, listening to speech is slow. Text is easier to store, process and consume, both for computers and for humans, but writing text is slow and requires some intention. In this thesis, we study speech recognition which allows converting speech into text, making it easier both to create and to use information. Our tool of study is Hidden Markov Models which is one of the most important machine learning models in speech and language processing. The aim of this thesis is to do a rst study in Hidden Markov Models and understand their importance, particularly in speech recognition. We will go through three fundamental problems that come up naturally with Hidden Markov Models: to compute a likelihood of an observation sequence, to nd an optimal state sequence given an observation sequence and the model, and to adjust the model parameters. A solution to each problem will be given together with an example and the corresponding simulations using MatLab. The main importance lies in the last example, in which a rst approach to speech recognition will be done.

Streszczenie:
Abstract The quantum Rabi model (QRM) is widely regarded as one of the fundamental models of quantum optics. One of its generalizations is the asymmetric quantum Rabi model (AQRM), obtained by introducing a symmetry-breaking term depending on a parameter $$\varepsilon \in \mathbb {R}$$ to the Hamiltonian of the QRM. The AQRM was shown to possess degeneracies in the spectrum for values $$\epsilon \in 1/2\mathbb {Z}$$ via the study of the divisibility of the so-called constraint polynomials. In this article, we aim to provide further insight into the structure of Juddian solutions of the AQRM by extending the divisibility properties and the relations between the constraint polynomials with the solution of the AQRM in the Bargmann space. In particular we discuss a conjecture proposed by Masato Wakayama.

Streszczenie:
Abstract There are several concepts of what constitutes the analytical solution of a quantum model, as opposed to the mere “numerically exact” one. This applies even if one considers only the determination of the discrete spectrum of the corresponding Hamiltonian, setting aside such important questions as the asymptotic dynamics for long times. In the simplest case, the spectrum can be given in closed form, the eigenvalues $$E_{j}, j=0,\ldots ,N\le \infty $$ read $$E_{j} =f(j,\{p_{k}\})$$, where f is a known function of the label $$j\in \mathbb {N}_{0}$$ and the $$\{p_k\}$$ are a set of numbers parameterizing the Hamilton operator. This kind of solution exists only in cases where the classical limit of the model is Liouville-integrable. Some quantum-mechanical many-body systems allow the determination of the spectrum in terms of auxiliary parameters $$[\{k_j\},\{n_l\}]$$ as $$E(\{n_l\}) = f(\{k_{j}(\{n_{l}\})\})$$ where the $$\{k_{j}(\{n_{l}\})\}$$ satisfy a coupled set of transcendental equations, following from a certain ansatz for the eigenfunctions. These systems (integrable in the sense of Yang-Baxter (Eckle 2019)) may have a Hilbert space dimension growing exponentially with the system size L, i.e., $$N\sim e^{L}$$. The simple enumeration of the energies with the label j is replaced by the multi-index $$\{n_{l}\}$$. Although no priori knowledge about the spectrum is available, its statistical properties can be computed exactly (Berry and Tabor 1977). Other integrable and also non-integrable models exist where N depends polynomially on L and the energies $$E_j$$ are the zeroes of an analytically computable transcendental function, the so-called G-function $$G(E,\{p_k\})$$ (Braak 2013a, 2016), which is proportional to the spectral determinant. Although no closed formula for $$E_j$$ as function of the index j exists, detailed qualitative insight into the distribution of the eigenvalues can be obtained (Braak 2013b). Possible applications of these concepts to information compression and cryptography are outlined.

The models of microbial system have a history that includes research in various fields of evolution, ecology and more recently optimization algorithms (we refer there especially the mimetic bacterial growth algorithm). The growth of bacteria population in bioreactors is made often using mathematical models as premises for optimization and control. Food webs and microbial food chains are subject of models by differential equations. The tool propose to use the most common representation of the microbial systems, a two layered mechanism as a cascade of two biological reaction where one substrate is the subject of consumer by one microorganism that serves a limiter substrate for the second microorganism. The system modeled by system of differential equations call the Matlab solver for numerical solutions. The user has the possibility to use predefined constants, user-defined constants or optimized ones for stability analysis. A second module that are implemented in the main program deals with more recent approach, the three-layered 'food-web', where a third organism is added to model. The model can test the influence of growth organisms as interaction between multiple species. The user has the possibility to create the system of equation using a Constructor Builder. The parser from this module will translate the text-code in an .m file callable from Matlab as system used be ODE solver. The visualization module display in a GUI (Graphic User Interface) the result of simulation. The tool is useful for understanding and prediction of microbial colony growth but also offer a perspective for future development of additional modules for microbial ecology.

Mathematical modeling of biological tissue ablation performed using a short pulse laser and the corresponding experimental analysis is of fundamental importance to the understanding and predicting the temperature distribution and heat affected zone for advancing surgical application of lasers. The objective of this paper is to use mathematical models to predict the thermal ablated zones during irradiation of freshly excised mouse skin tissue samples by a novel approach using a focused laser beam from a short pulse laser source. Suggested mathematical model is Stefan kind free boundary problem for the heat equation in unknown region. Temperature of the skin satisfies the classical heat equation subjected to Neumann boundary condition on the known boundary, while along the time-dependent unknown boundary, which characterizes the ablation depth, two conditions are met: (1) temperature is equal to the ablation temperature and (2) classical Stefan condition is satisfied. The latter expresses the conservation of energy at the ablation moment. A method of integral equations is used to reduce the Stefan problem to a system of two Volterra kind integral equations for temperature and ablation depth. MATLAB is used subsequently for the numerical solution. Experiments are performed using two lasers—a diode laser having a wavelength of 1552 nm and pulsewidth of 1.3 ps. The surface temperature distribution is measured using an imaging camera. After irradiation, histological studies of laser irradiated tissues are performed using frozen sectioning technique to determine the extent of thermal damage caused by the laser beam. The ablation depth and width is calculated based on the interpolated polygon technique using image processing software. The surface temperature distribution and the ablation depth obtained from the mathematical models are compared with the experimental measurements and are in very good agreement. A parametric study of various laser parameters such as time-average power, pulse repetition rate, pulse energy, and irradiation time is performed to determine the necessary ablation threshold parameters.

Streszczenie:
Compartmental models have proven to be useful in various forms of epidemics: Ebola, dengue fever, swine fever, flu, avian flu, etc. Such models have experienced a great development especially because of the multitude of practical applications, but also due to the many possibilities of software implementation. Although there are a few software tools, for example, EpiModel, they have limitations in modelling and use of language employed in the simulation. Measles can be described as a model with 4 compartments, SEIR, but for a better knowledge of all geographic implications in terms of vaccination, we propose a MSEIR model (S = susceptible, I = infected, R = recovered, vaccinated, E = exposed, M = maternally immune). The educational software created in MATLAB, can generate a graphical system, with specific interactions between compartments, starting with initial values set by the user as a result of specific epidemiological studies. After defining the compartments and their links, a generator will build the system of equations which models the compartmental system, solvable through numerical methods specific to measles. Optionally, the user will be able to view the system of differential equations using symbolic calculation. The solutions will be displayed graphically and will allow the user to compare the epidemic evolution with or without vaccine, as well as optimal policy for vaccination using the Jacobian matrix for determination of the endemic equilibrium. Graphical user interface is intuitive, educational, with the possibility of amending the transfer rate between compartments, parameters and initial values. The reproduction number R0 can be defined to be used in order to analyse the influence of it for fit the model with experimental data. The main novelty in this paper is composed mainly by a graphical interface an easy-to-use by student and researcher for in create abilities to use a compartmental model and at the same time, able to provide sufficient arguments in the decision making process and health policies. The other innovative approach is the possibility to define by user a symbolic equation for a compartmental model meanwhile the too will translate in mathematical one that can be solved by differential equation using numerical methods.

In recent years, several thermal power plants were built in Brazil and the percentage of participation of this kind of power generation increased in the local energy market. Since the 1980's, several studies developed mathematical models for gas turbines to be applied in power system analysis. These are simplified representations of static and dynamic behavior of machines. However, published works in dynamic gas turbine models represent a narrow set of machines, and most of the applications in power system analysis employ them, despite the fact that they are not accurate representations of some specific machines. This work presents the modeling procedure and validation for a 106 MW heavy-duty gas turbine working in combined cycle in a Brazilian thermal power plant. The gray-box approach, based on an existing tuned model based on real sampled data, is used, and the modeling involves a static approach in steady state, and dynamic modeling with system identification from sampled data. Sampled data were corrected to standard environmental conditions. The model was developed and validated in MATLAB®-Simulink®.

This paper discusses mathematical model implementations and simulation in various software environments for Unmanned Underwater Vehicles (UUVs), especially biomimetic ones. Gaining accurate simulation models of UUVs is challenging due to many nonlinear phenomena that need to be analysed. Further, the sensors’ accuracy and disturbances made by the natural water environment are difficult to predict during the simulation. On the other hand, an accurate simulation model is needed during new algorithm tests provided for increased vehicle autonomy. As a result, mathematical models and their implementation into different software are analysed and discussed in this paper. The model based on nonlinear differential equations is compared to an object-oriented, physical model based on Matlab Simscape Multibody.

Abstract For the past seven decades, a compressor aerodynamicist has developed various methodologies to design, analyze, and simulate compressor stages. In compressor design, three major subsequent steps can be identified: the one-dimensional mean-line methodology, the two-dimensional through-flow analysis, and the three dimensional computational fluid dynamics. One of the interconnecting threads, between these various x-dimensional analysis, is the compressor blade profile shape. This shape, of known and controllable geometric parameters, is usually accompanied by, or related to, loss models and known flow physics, either defined by theory or through experimental test. In this paper, a novel mathematical approach is described to define axial compressor airfoil profile shapes. These shapes, developed in a Cartesian coordinate system, can be used to create Double Circular Arc, Multiple Circular Arc, and a hybrid combination of the two types. The proposed methodology, based on the mathematics of circles, can be easily applied using generalized software such as Python or MATLAB, or be embedded in specialized engineering design software. In doing so, researchers and engineers can create compressor airfoil shapes which are consistent and flexible with respect to geometric parameter manipulation. Full details of the formulas, with respect to the camber line definition and the calculation of the profile intrados and extrados, are presented. A URL link to an equivalent MATLAB code, and a specialized engineering software, has been provided for those researchers that wish to apply the formulations and review its use.
