In testing the viability of automatic knowledge-acquisition, using simple techniques and brute force on the Internet, a system was implemented in Java. Techniques from both multi-agent system and swarm intelligence paradigms were used to structure the system, improve searches, increase stability and increase modularity. The system presented relies on using existing search-engines to find texts on the World Wide Web, containing a user-specified key-word. Knowledge is identified in the texts using key-sentences, terms related to the key-word becomes new key-words in an incremental search. The result is expressed as sentences in a KR-language. The answers from a run were often interesting and surprising, and gave information beyond an encyclopedic scope, even if the answers often contained false information. The results of the implemented system verified the viability of both the designed framework and the theory behind it.

Increasing market competition, globalisation, technological advancements and customers' awareness of service quality has contributed to environmental uncertainty within the hotel industry (Atkinson & Brander Brown, 2001; Brander Brown & Atkinson, 2001; Harris & Mongiello, 2001; Sanchez, 1997). Several researchers argue that managers' perceived uncertainty can be better managed if the general manager practises a transformational leadership style (i.e., the superior shares the organisational vision with subordinates and genuinely motivates them) (Hinkin & Tracey, 1994; Lockwood & Jones, 1989; Tracey & Hinkin, 1996; Zetie, Sparrow, Woodfield & Kilmartin, 1994; Zohar, 1994). Furthermore, the use of broad scope MAS (management accounting systems) information helps to reduce uncertainty and complexity, thereby improving decision-making (Biema & Greenwald, 1997; Chen, 1996; Chenhall & Morris, 1986; Gordon & Narayanan, 1984; Mia & Clarke, 1999; Sanchez, 1997). This study examined the relationship between hotel department managers' perception of the intensity of market competition, their general manager's (i.e., the superior's) transformational leadership style and the use of broad scope MAS information, and its effect on departmental performance (i.e., financial, non-financial and overall change in performance). In addition, this study investigated the moderating effect of national culture on the above relationship using Hofstede's (1980) theoretical framework including power distance and individualism dimensions, and undertaking the study in the Australian and Indian hotel industry. A cross-sectional design was used to present a snapshot of the relationship mentioned in the previous paragraph. In particular, two research methods-a self-administered postal survey questionnaire and face-to-face interviews-were used to improve the generalisation of the results. In total, 82 four and five star hotels (66 hotels in Australia and the remaining 16 in India) with more than 160 bedrooms returned completed and usable questionnaires. From each of the hotels and resorts, food and beverage as well as the room's department managers participated in the study. The data was gathered with the help of well-established instruments that were adapted for the hotel environment. For example, Gupta and Govindrajan's (1984) departmental performance scale; Khandwalla's (1972) market competition scale; Bass and Avolio's (1997) MLQ-5X transformational leadership scale; Chenhall and Morris's (1986) broad scope MAS information scale and Hofstede's (1980) national culture scale. In addition, major issues covered in the survey questionnaire were further discussed in face-to-face interviews with selected hotel department managers. While the quantitative data was analysed using standard descriptive statistics as well as inferential statistics (i.e., t-test and hierarchical multiple regression techniques), qualitative data was analysed using summary tables. The quantitative and qualitative analysis resulting from the survey questionnaire and face-to-face interviews with hotel department managers provided support for the two sets of findings. Firstly, the basic performance model revealed a significant and positive three-way interaction between market competition, transformational leadership style, broad scope MAS information use and departmental performance consisting of financial performance, overall change in departmental performance as well as change in departmental revenue in the past two years prior to the study. Further analysis confirmed that improvement in departmental performance was apparent when general managers practised high, rather than low transformational leadership style, with no change in the level of market competition and broad scope MAS information use. While a significant and positive direct effect of transformational leadership and broad scope MAS information use on departmental performance was evident, a significant and negative direct effect of market competition on departmental performance was also found. Secondly, Australian and Indian department managers exhibited, a significant difference in national culture, transformational leadership, market competition and MAS use, but no significant difference in departmental performance was evident. The moderating effect of national culture on the basic performance model showed that in India, culture had no effect on the three-way interaction. However, in Australia, a significant and positive three-way interaction was only evident for overall changes in departmental revenue. Perhaps this long-term favourable outcome in Australia is due to the high transformational leadership style of hotel general managers, department managers' perception of high market competition and their increased use of broad scope MAS information. The theoretical and managerial implications of the study's results, limitations and future research directions are also discussed in the thesis.

In a competitive business environment, managers’ need for broad scope management accounting system (MAS) information for decision making increases. This information is critical for facilitating managers to gain a better understanding of a competitive environment and to respond to uncertain situations. Such understanding, in turn, helps managers to make more effective decisions, thereby improving their performance. The extant literature suggests that several factors, such as organisational structure and external environment, may have an impact on managers’ use of broad scope MAS information (hereafter, the MAS information) and on their performance. However, the literature suggests that such an impact varies depending on contexts such as countries and cultures. In a transitional economy, as in Vietnam, studies investigating the impact of these factors on managers’ use of the MAS information and on their performance are rather scarce. Vietnam is in the process of transforming from a centrally planned economy to a market-oriented one characterised by a competitive business environment, organisations with multiple ownership types and a mix of leadership styles and reward systems. The relevant literature argues that the impact of different ownership types, leadership styles and reward systems in the transitional economy of Vietnam may differ from that found in a western country’s developed economy. However, an extensive literature review suggests that research on the impact of leadership style, reward system, and ownership type on managers’ use of the MAS information and their performance in Vietnam has yet to be conducted. The current study addresses this shortcoming.

Competition in the tourism industry, particularly in the hotel industry, is becoming increasingly intense. To survive in such a highly competitive market, hotels have to sustain better-than-average performance over time. Consequently, hotels need to monitor and manage performance including financial performance and also performance related to their customers, internal business processes, learning and growth, and social and environmental operations. To improve and maintain performance, a hotel needs to place considerable importance on pursuing competitive strategy, building up alliances with other organisations (e.g., other hotels, travel agents, and suppliers of inputs and services) and making the best use of appropriate information including management accounting system (MAS) information. However, the empirical research on the ways and means of improving sustainable hotel performance, specifically in developing countries like Indonesia, is scant. As a result, hotel managers in countries like Indonesia may have limited knowledge of how they can help their hotel achieve sustainable performance. This study aims to help fill the knowledge gap of Indonesian hotel managers by providing empirical evidence on how competitive strategy, strategic alliance, and managerial use of MAS information could play a role in improving hotel sustainable performance (HSP). The Sustainable Balanced Scorecard (SBSC) approach was used to measure HSP based on financial, customer, internal business process, learning and growth, and social and environmental perspectives.

The seamless retrieval of information distributed across networks has been one of the key goals of many systems. Early solutions involved the use of single static agents which would retrieve the unfiltered data and then process it. However, this was deemed costly and inefficient in terms of the bandwidth since complete files need to be downloaded when only a single value is often all that is required. As a result, mobile agents were developed to filter the data in situ before returning it to the user. However, mobile agents have their own associated problems, namely security and control. The Agent Trees Multi-Agent System (AT-MAS) has been developed to provide the remote processing and filtering capabilities but without the need for mobile code. It is implemented as a Peer to Peer (P2P) network of static intelligent cooperating agents, each of which control one or more data sources. This dissertation describes the two key technologies have directly influenced the design of ATMAS, Peer-to-Peer (P2P) systems and Multi-Agent Systems (MAS). P2P systems are conceptually simple, but limited in power, whereas MAS are significantly more complex but correspondingly more powerful. The resulting system exhibits the power of traditional MAS systems while retaining the simplicity of P2P systems. The dissertation describes the system in detail and analyses its performance.

Both artificial intelligence (AI) and database (DB) communities have advantages in incorporating features from each other's areas. From a DB view, handling of complexity in today's information systems can be aided by incorporating AI features, and database environments could gain in flexibility by entrusting some of their functionality to agent systems. Contemplated from the AI view, agent systems could gain in robustness by being based on DB-systems.

By applying the semantics of database-transaction to interactions between agents in a multiagent-system, and analysing the consequences, this project endeavours to cross borders of the two research areas. In the project, states where drop-out of some agent is severe to the task fulfilment, of the system, have been identified, and examined after applying transaction semantics to the agent interactions. An existing system for multiagent applications, JADE, has been examined in order to investigate how problem situations are handled in practice. The result from this work shows the feasibility to contemplate both type of systems as very similar, but modelled and viewed in different ways.

Today’s business organisations are facing a more uncertain environment due to increasing competition, globalisation, change in product and process technologies, and change in customer needs and preferences. Many researchers have argued that in this uncertain environment, managers are required to use more broad scope management accounting systems (MAS) information – external, nonfinancial and future-oriented – for their decision-making. By using this information, managers are able to gain a better understanding of uncertain situation and thus are able to make more effective decisions in response to the situation. Broad scope MAS information thus becomes more important for managers in today’s business organisations. In spite of the potential importance of broad scope MAS information, there has been fairly little research on antecedents and consequences of managers’ use of broad scope MAS information. This has motivated the present study to examine the relationships (a) between competitive strategy, stages of product life cycle (PLC) and use of broad scope MAS information, and (b) between competitive strategy, stages of PLC, use of broad scope MAS information and organisational performance following the concept of balanced scorecard (BSC). BSC incorporates performance in four perspectives: financial, customer, internal business process, and learning and growth. This study also seeks to investigate the moderating effect of uncertainty at industry level on these relationships. Multiple research methods – first a questionnaire survey and second an in-depth interview – were used. Quantitative data collected through the survey were used for testing the hypothesised relationships. These data were analysed using path analysis. Qualitative data collected through the interviews were used to provide additional understanding of the relationships as well as to clarify the results of the survey. ii A total of 108 general managers of manufacturing companies in the food-processing and electronics industries returned completed and usable questionnaires. The foodprocessing and electronics industries were selected because they have contrasting levels of uncertainty. The food-processing industry faces relatively low uncertainty, while the electronics industry faces relatively high uncertainty. As well as testing the hypothesised relationships by using full data from both industries, the present study tested such relationships for each of the two industries. The results of the two industries were then compared in order to investigate the moderating effect of uncertainty at industry level. The present study highlights a number of findings. First, the results reveal significant and positive relationships between the competitive strategy, stages of PLC and use of broad scope MAS information. Second, this study found a significant and positive relationship between the competitive strategy and organisational performance in four perspectives of BSC. Third, the stages of PLC were significantly related to financial performance, but not to performance in other perspectives of BSC. Fourth, the relationships between the use of broad scope MAS information and organisational performance, relating to financial, customer, and internal business process, were found to be positive and significant. Fifth, the relationships (a) between competitive strategy, stages of PLC and use of broad scope MAS information, and (b) between the use of broad scope MAS information and organisational performance were significant for the electronics industry, but not for the food-processing industry. Thus, the moderating effect of uncertainty at industry level on these relationships was evident. Finally, for both industries, the relationship between competitive strategy and organisational performance was significant. Therefore, there was no support for the moderating effect of uncertainty at industry level on this relationship.

Manufacturing companies in Indonesia have been facing strong market competition from both local and international sources. In order to keep abreast with the latest developments in the manufacturing industry worldwide, and to enhance their companies’ competitiveness, Indonesian manufacturers need to nderstand the role of some important factors (such as industry dynamism, market orientation and managerial use of management accounting system (MAS) information that are likely to help their companies’ capability to successfully deal with that competition. This study examined the relationships between industry dynamism, market orientation, managerial use of broad scope MAS information and organisational performance. Organisational performance in this study used a sustainability balanced scorecard perspective that includes financial performance, customer-related performance, internal business process-related performance, learning and growth-related performance, and corporate social performance. In addition, this study also examined the relationships between industry dynamism, market orientation, and managerial use of broad scope MAS information (hereafter the use of MAS information). This study used a mixed method approach that combines both a survey questionnaire and in-depth interviews. In total, 129 general managers of medium to large manufacturing companies in Indonesia returned and completed the survey questionnaire, while 15 of these managers participated in the in-depth interviews.

Hoy en día el empresariado pone énfasis en el manejo de las herramientas tecnológicas para poder lograr sus objetivos estratégicos y ser competitivas en el mercado. En este contexto, se hace imperante considerar la inserción de las TICs en los procesos organizacionales pues sabemos las ventajas competitivas que esto supone, sin embargo, es importante considerar que en la implementación de un sistema de información intervienen muchos factores, siendo uno de los principales el factor humano. Es así como en esta investigación se pretende analizar el impacto de las TICs en la satisfacción del cliente interno (colaborador) y el cliente externo en un rubro específico como son las empresas que brindan servicios dentales en nuestro país, pues este sector de salud en el Perú ha ido en franco crecimiento especialmente los servicios médicos especializados que crecieron hasta un 20% al 2018 (MINSA, 2018). La técnica que se utilizó fue la encuesta, tipo Likert, y el diseño de investigación es descriptivo, correlacional causal, con un enfoque cuantitativo. La población estuvo compuesta por 125 colaboradores de una clínica dental y 300 clientes en las clínicas dentales las cuales fueron elegidas de manera aleatoria siguiendo criterios de inclusión específicos. Finalmente se concluye que las TIC tienen un impacto significativo en la satisfacción del cliente interno y externo en las empresas dentales en Lima Metropolitana y el Callao. La correlación de Spearman 0.696, tiene signo positivo, por lo tanto, se puede afirmar que la relación es directa; es decir, a mayor puntaje de TIC, mayor es el puntaje de satisfacción.
Nowadays, entrepreneurship emphasizes the use of technological tools to achieve their strategic objectives and be competitive in the market. In this context, it is imperative to consider the insertion of ICTs in organizational processes because we know the competitive advantages that this implies, however, it is important to consider that in the implementation of an information system many factors intervene, being one of the main the human factor. This is how this research aims to analyze the impact of ICTs on the satisfaction of the internal client (collaborator) and the external client in a specific area such as the companies that provide dental services in our country, as this health sector in the Peru has been growing rapidly, especially specialized medical services that grew by 20% to 2018 (MINSA, 2018). The technique that was used was the survey, Likert type, and the research design is descriptive, causal correlational, with a quantitative approach. The population consisted of 125 collaborators of a dental clinic and 300 clients in the dental clinics, which were chosen randomly according to specific inclusion criteria. Finally, it is concluded that ICT have a significant impact on internal and external client satisfaction in dental companies in Metropolitan Lima and Callao. The correlation of Spearman 0.696 has a positive sign, therefore, it can be affirmed that the relationship is direct; that is, the higher the ICT score, the higher the satisfaction score.

Patient’s mobility throughout his lifetime leaves a trial of information scattered in laboratories, clinical institutes, primary care units, and other hospitals. Hence, the medical history of a patient is valuable when subjected to special healthcare units or undergoes home-care/personal-care in elderly stage cases. Despite the rhetoric about patient-centred care, few attempts were made to measure and improve in this arena. In this thesis, we will describe and implement a high-level view of a Patient Centric information management, deploying at a preliminary stage, the use of Agent Technologies and Grid Computing. Thus, developing and proposing an infrastructure that allows us to monitor and survey the patient, from the doctor’s point of view, and investigate a Persona, from the patients’ side, that functions and collaborates among different medical information structures. The Persona will attempt to interconnect all the major agents (human and software), and realize a distributed grid info-structure that directly affect the patient, therefore, revealing an adequate and cost-effective solution for most critical information needs. The results comprehended in the literature survey, consolidating Healthcare Information Management with emerged intelligent Multi-Agent System Technologies (MAS) and Grid Computing; intends to provide a solid basis for further advancements and assessments in this field, by bridging and proposing a framework between the home-care sector and the flexible agent architecture throughout the healthcare domain.

To start a company on the Internet is something that has appealed a lot of people during the last couple of years. Some of the companies have succeeded in their struggle but a lot of companies have failed to live out their ambition. This paper deals with the concept of e-commerce and aims to study whether or not the companies that has succeeded has made use of business models and what other factors that is important that you wont find in any written theory.

The paper also aims to study the concept of business models and what a business model consists of. To be able to do this research we have interviewed three different companies that are all active in e-commerce and have survived for at least three years. Two of the companies are classical web shops that sell products to their customers and the last one is a site with articles about hardware and IT business in general. The company that provides articles receives their incomes from advertising sales.

The results from these research has been compared to what the theory says to see if the theoretical business models is being used and to see if there are other factors that has impacted the success of the company.

In the result of the thesis it shows that there are factors where the studied companies have followed the theoretical approaches. But there are also other factors that are important to consider. In the theory part of the thesis the authors put together a research model based on other authors theories on what a small internet based company should think of. With the research model as a base the founders of three small internet based companies were interviewed. From these interviews the authors discovered that there are other important factors that the theory did not bring up. One of those factors is personal engagement which is strongly linked with the personal freedom that you get from running your own Internet based company. Other essential factors that were found are the development of distributor contacts and having a good customer focus.


Att starta ett företag på Internet är någonting som har lockat många personer de senaste åren. En del företag har lyckats men många har de varit som har misslyckats att leva ut sin ambition. Den här uppsatsen handlar om e-commerce och syftar till att undersöka om företag som lyckats har använt sig av teoretiska affärsmodeller. Uppsatsen syftar också till att undersöka begreppet affärsmodell och vad en affärsmodell består av. För att kunna undersöka detta har intervjuer genomförts på tre olika företag som alla är verksamma inom e-commerce och som har överlevt i minst tre år. Två av företagen säljer produkter som en ren handelsplats. Ett företag driver en sida med gratis material och får sina intäkter via försäljning av annonsplatser. Resultatet från dessa undersökningar har sedan jämförts med teorin för att se om de teoretiska affärsmodellerna tillämpas och om det finns ytterligare faktorer som påverkar att företagen lyckats.

I uppsatsens resultat visar det sig att det finns faktorer där företagen verkligen har följt de teoretiska tillvägagångssätten, men också att det finns ytterligare faktorer som är viktiga för att lyckas. I uppsatsens teoridel så tas det fram en undersökningsmodell för vad det är små företag bör tänka på när de startar upp ett Internetbaserat företag. Med denna undersökningsmodell som grund intervjuades grundarna av tre mindre Internetbaserade företag och utifrån denna empiri så kom det fram att det fanns saker som teorin inte tryckte så hårt på. En utav dessa viktiga faktorer är personligt engagemang som är starkt förknippat med den personliga friheten som fås av att driva ett Internetbaserat företag, vilket tillsammans ger företaget en unik drivkraft. Andra viktiga faktorer som framkom är utvecklingen av företagets leverantörskontakter och god kundfokus.

Människors konsumtion ökar och digital mathandel växer för varje år som går. När människors konsumtion ökar, leder det till negativa konsekvenser för miljön. Valen av livsmedel påverkas hur produkter är presenterade. Digital mathandel har därför möjligheten att vägleda människor mot miljövänliga val genom att knuffa (nudga) dem.  En knuff syftar till att vägleda individer till att göra bra val utan att begränsa deras valfrihet eller ambition. Idag hanteras allt fler viktiga val på internet och det medför att knuffar blir mer aktuella i digitala sammanhang. Digitala knuffar kan leda till oavsiktliga konsekvenser och etiska implikationer som är svåra för designers att identifiera. Designers som vill experimentera med digitala knuffar behöver riktlinjer om hur det ska hanteras på ett etiskt sätt. Tidigare forskning inom digitala knuffar och etik visar att utvärdering av etiska riktlinjer saknas. Designers av digitala knuffar behöver utforska den etiska godtagbarheten av digitala knuffar som vägleder människor. Forskning har tagit fram etiska riktlinjer för digitala knuffar som rekommenderas att implementeras och testas i praktiken. Studien utfördes med en designorienterad forskningsansats. Syftet med denna designstudie är att konstruera digitala knuffar i form av designförslag med stöd av etiska riktlinjer och utvärdera användarupplevelsen av designförslagen i en digital mathandelsmiljö. Resultatet för studien bidrar med fyra designförslag som är konstruerade med stöd av etiska riktlinjer och hur dessa designförslag upplevs av människor.

To mark the 800-year anniversary of the Saxon capital Dresden, an Internet presentation entitled "Dresden auf Karten und Ansichten" ("Dresden on Maps and Pictures") has been realised, gathering selected maps and historical depictions from the collections of the Sächsische Landesbibliothek, Staatsund Universitätsbibliothek (Saxon State and University Library, SLUB). The analogue/ digital conversion of the originals, the structure of the digital collection, and the manifold possibilities for use are explained in detail. Examples of how landscape and urban development is reflected in historical maps illustrate the potential of this Internet tool. Furthermore, the information portal of the Saxon libraries and archives, which is presented as "Kartenforum Sachsen" ("Map Forum Saxony") and is maintained by the German Photothek and the SLUB map department, is described briefly. Consumers are often confronted with incomplete product information. In such instances, they can eliminate the product from further consideration due to higher associated uncertainty or ask for more information. Alternatively, they can apply subjective theories about covariation to infer the value of missing attributes. This paper investigates the latter option in the context of sustainability and provides an in-depth exploration of consumers' inference formations. Drawing from rich qualitative data, it offers a conceptualization of the underlying relationships consumers use to infer product sustainability based on other product attributes. The study further assesses whether these findings can be captured in a quantifiable way. To this end, inferred sustainability is conceptualized as a formative second-order construct, thereby depicting the influence of inference-triggering product attributes. (authors' abstract)

This exploratory study attempts to map the curricula of the ALA accredited LIS programs to provide a better understanding of the nature of LIS education as is currently prevalent in the United States and Canada. The mapping methodology is based on clustering keywords of individual course titles and course descriptions from each LIS program. Hence, the study provides a relatively accurate snapshot of the curricula through a concept intensity map of the subjects being presently taught in LIS programs. It is hoped that the map will contribute to discussions in designing a more cohesive LIS education.

Denna uppsats är en studie i hur man hanterar läkemedel på en klinik på ett sjukhus i Sverige. Målet är att se vilka åtgärder som skulle kunna appliceras för att få en säkrare vård genom att försöka minska antalet felmedicineringar. Studien gjordes genom observationer och samtal med anställda på kliniken, samt att relevanta teorier hittades, vilket gjorde att en del förbättringsförslag och idéer till vidare forskning lades fram. Resultaten är till exempel hur man skulle kunna minska antalet felmedicineringar genom att ta bort ett antal säkerhetsåtgärder. Detta anses kunna göras genom att flytta runt läkemedel i läkemedelsförråden utan att förvarna personalen (förutsatt att personalen vet att det kan hända utan förvarning innan det nya systemet används). Att göra på det viset skulle i teorin innebära att sjuksköterskorna skulle behöva vara mer uppmärksamma i mycket högre grad än förut eftersom läkemedel inte längre står där det brukar stå. Ytterligare resultat är till exempel hur läkemedelsföretagen skulle kunna illustrera ett läkemedels styrka genom färgkoder på kartonger och pillerkartor eftersom det inte finns någon nationell standard för det idag, vilket ha lett till att alla företag har sitt eget sätt att illustrera detta på, om de har något alls. Även mer specifika resultat som eventuellt endast kan appliceras på ett mindre antal kliniker och avdelningar har lagts fram.

Having given a short resume of the background of maps and map making, the handling of maps in libraries was investigated. The examination of the development of bibliographic description of maps, resulted in, inter alia, the identification of their peculiar characteristics Special attention was focussed on the difficulties of the detailed description of early maps. As it was considered important to refer to authoritative reference sources for further details, cartographical sources for maps of the Cape of Good Hope were examined and evaluated. As a final step, the maps themselves were examined, with full details being supplied for 15 representative maps. This is followed by a comprehensive checklist of maps of the Cape of Good Hope (south western section), sufficient information being supplied to identify them, together with references to their original published sources, their reference in standard bibliographies, and a record of any known reproductions available. The primary objective of contributing towards improved access to maps of the Cape of Good Hope has thus been achieved.

Tässä työssä on kartoitettu MaaS-palvelualustan teknisiä vaatimuksia siitä näkökulmasta, että tällä hetkellä kehitteillä olevat MaaS-taustajärjestelmät olisivat mahdollisimman yhteensopivia eri liikkumispalveluntarjoajien ja reittioppaiden käyttämien aikataulutietojen ja maksujärjestelmien kanssa. Työssä kartoitettiin Suomessa ja ulkomailla jo olemassa olevia MaaS-hankkeita ja liikenteen tietojärjestelmiä. Löydösten perusteella voidaan liikenteen tietojärjestelmien olevan murrosvaiheessa: yhteinäiset standardit ovat vasta muodostumassa, tietojärjestelmät ovat osittain hajaantuneet. Avoimen tiedon ja rajapintojen avaamisen osalta työ on jo aloitettu. Liikennekaari-hankkeen toteutuessa avattavien maksujärjestelmien ja aikataulutietojen määrittelyt ovat teknisesti vasta luonnosasteella. MaaS-taustajärjestelmien kehittäjien, liikkumispalveluntarjoajien ja maksuliikenteen järjestelmien tarjoajien yhteistyö on välttämätöntä helposti yhteensopivien ja skaalautuvien liikenteen palvelujen takaamiseksi. Työssä on myös koostettu Kuusamossa Rukan alueella liikennöivälle SkiBus-linja-autolle GTFS-Static -muotoiset aikataulutiedostot. Aikataulutiedostot on toteutettu Liikenneviraston RAE-työkalulla, joka on tarkoitettu julkisen liikenteen aikataulutiedostojen koostamista varten. Mobility as a Service (MaaS) platforms should be compatible and scalable with systems used by public transport agencies, transport operators, and also with journey planners and different payments systems. In this thesis, the technical requirements of Mobility as a Service- platforms are mapped. Furthermore, national and international MaaS projects and traffic information systems are studied. Based on the findings, traffic information systems are still fragmented and standards are under development. The recent law proposal (2016) by the Ministry of Transport and Communications forces transport providers to provide open public interfaces for payments and schedule data but they aren’t defined technically, yet. To provide good interoperability, collaboration between transport and payment system providers is crucial. As a use case, GTFS-static schedule format files for a bus route operating in the ski center Ruka area and connecting also the city of Kuusamo were created in the experimental section of this thesis. GTFS-files were created with Finnish Transport Agency’s RAE GTFS editor which is a tool for public transport agencies to provide their schedule data. The results of this thesis can be exploited by city planners, developers of MaaS services and people interested in servitization of transport

The city of Kalmar has a desire that their 3D maps of the city should come to a greater use and get residents more involved in Kalmar city. The purpose of this report is to show one way to work with these 3D maps when it comes to presenting information about Kalmar for its residents and tourists in a specific area.  The report also includes information about advantages and disadvantages with the use of 2D and 3D maps in different environments. Various reports and other sources indicate an interest in 3D and a use for this, but even that 2D is still seen as a natural way to read a map. By collecting information from relevant literature, interviews and user testing, the group has obtained sufficient background information to present the results of a web site, where the visitor can navigate in both 2D and 3D in a specific area of Kalmar. User tests and surveys have been conducted in two rounds and the web site has been revised after their results.


Kalmar kommun har en önskan om att deras 3D-kartor över staden skall komma till en utökad användning och att få kommuninvånarna mer engagerade i Kalmar kommun. Syftet med denna rapport är att visa hur man på ett sätt kan arbeta med dessa 3D-kartor när det kommer till att presentera information om Kalmar kommun för dess invånare och turister i ett specifikt område. I rapporten tas även fördelar och nackdelar upp med att använda sig av 2D- respektive 3D-kartor i olika miljöer. Olika rapporter och andra källor visar på ett intresse för 3D och ett användningsområde för detta, men även att 2D fortfarande ses som ett naturligt sätt att läsa en karta. Genom att samla in information både från relevant litteratur, intervjuer samt användartester har gruppen fått tillräcklig bakgrundinformation för att presentera resultatet med en webbplats, där besökaren kan navigera både i 2D och 3D i ett specifikt område i Kalmar. Användartester och enkäter har utförts i två omgångar på webbplatsen och har omarbetats efter det som framgick där.

Arbetet syftar till att skapa en allmän förståelse för ämnet brandväggar. Rapporten skall ge läsaren en god grund för att kunna föra vidare resonemang om brandväggar.

Rapporten inleds med bakgrundsinformation som skall hjälpa läsaren att lättare förstå ämnet. Här beskrivs kort vad en brandvägg är och vilka komponenter som ingår. För att sätta detta i ett vidare sammanhang så beskrivs också vilka olika typer av brandväggar som finns. En beskrivning över Internet och dess struktur hjälper också läsaren att få mer kunskap och detta krävs för att få förståelse över de sammanhang som senare tas upp.

Som metoder har jag använt mig av intervjuer och litteraturgenomgång. I intervjun har jag använt mig av tre personer, en säkerhetsexpert, en systemadministratör och en hacker. Denna blandning av personligheter har resulterat i en stor bredd i svarsinformationen. I litteraturgenomgången har jag använt mig av två kända böcker som givit mycket värdefull information.

Brandväggar behövs för att skydda interna nätverk från intrång från andra nätverk som t.ex. Internet. Rapporten fördjupar sig i varför man skall ha en brandvägg och vad syftet är med den. Problemen med brandväggar är många och det är ett hett samtalsämne i tidningar och media. De flesta intrång som sker beror ofta på att en brandvägg saknas eller att den är fel konfigurerad. Rapportens syfte är här att ta fram kända brister i brandväggar och fördjupa sig i dem. En rad brister har uppkommit genom arbetets gång, svårigheter att konfigurera och administrera, svaga lösenord, virus o.s.v.

Rapporten går även igenom de verktyg som kan användas för att upptäcka luckor eller hål i brandväggar. En rad olika verktyg nämns, SATAN, CRACK, Shadow, COPS m.m.

I slutet av rapporten finns ett avsnitt med tips och råd för ett säkrare nätverk. Detta avsnitt kan användas av systemadministratörer och dylikt för att få tips och råd som denna rapport mynnat ut i.

University students were shown simulated television newscasts and then tested on the news material to see if maps within the newscast aided learning world geographic information. Students were shown one of eight simulated newscasts, of three news stories, Each newscast contained maps, varying in complexity. There were five levels of complexity. One group viewed a simulated newscast with no maps, while other groups viewed simulated newscasts containing maps with 6, 10, or 14 variables per map. A control group saw no newscasts. The order of news story presentation was varied. Students who viewed one of the newscasts did better than students who did not see one, and the average number of correct answers increased as the maps in the news programs increased in map complexity. However, the group viewing the most complex maps--the 14 variable maps, did not perform better than those who saw the 10-variable maps.

Autism spectrum disorder is a developmental disorder characterized by social, behavioral, and communicative deficits. Although there is no known cure for autism, there are many research-based interventions that aid in strengthening such deficits, especially those associated with failures of stimulus control One way to address such failures is to provide additional stimuli that enhance or override information provided by naturally occurring stimuli. Contingency maps are one such example. This study uses an observing response (i.e., hand-raising) to allow the subjects to request contingency maps. The purpose of this study is to identify if contingency maps function as reinforcers and if requests for information can be acquired using an observing-response paradigm. Major findings of the present study indicate that requests for information can be acquired and maintained by access to CMs.

Embedded systems have become more complex and it is hard to predict the behavior of networkdue to its dynamic nature. Several devices can interact to perform highly sophisticated real-timetasks while having the demand of interaction and sharing of resources. The interactingcomponents in these systems have strict timing constraints which require time criticalcommunication.We have designed the DCC-EDF protocol for wireless communication using the motivation fromthe research done in optical communication. We have chosen dedicated control channel protocolbecause it does not require time synchronization. To provide real-time services, we will use theEarly Deadline First scheduling algorithm (EDF) because of its optimality and efficiency. Theperformance for the soft real-time traffic is analyzed through simulation.

While social media continues to grow, we are seeing more and more companies trying to adapt to the new platforms. As a constantly evolving marketspace finding the best way to spread information is not as clear cut as it used to be. Paying for air-time has been changed to paying for promotion on the platforms och paying for prints has been changed to paying for visibility in consumers feeds. But paying to accomplish this reach is but a small part in the equation. Being able to have the information spread by the consumers is the goal for many companies. But what motivates consumers to share posts, pictures and videos? The purpose of this study is to generate knowledge and understanding as to what might cause consumers to share posts. By focusing on the platform Facebook and the ten most shared and liked posts in Sweden we aim to break down the reasons that attributed to their spread. Interviews and observations have been conducted and the data generated has served to identify aspects that stimulate engagement and a willingness to share post.

Sexuality contains more than just reproduction and is an important part of quality of life. Chronic disease can lead to sexual dysfunction for both males and females. The nurse plays an important role in informing and teaching. Throughout dialogue and observations the nurse can detect possible problems, document and then take measures. The study was performed as information retrieval of literature where the cause was to highlight sexuality for patients that have experienced a myocardial infarction. Their needs of information and what measures that exists to improve the information. The study consists of thirteen articles which were analyzed and the result was divided in different categories; males and females sexuality after a myocardial infarction, needs of information about sexuality connected to a myocardial infarction and what various measures to take. The result showed that females and males sexuality was affected both physically and mentally after a myocardial infarction. There were effects through reduced- frequency, satisfaction, lust, interest and sexual activity. Both sex showed concerns and/or fear. One of the reasons was that either themselves, or their partner, were afraid that intercourse would cause another myocardial infarction. The need of information was great, there were requests for adequate advice and of attuned information. It was obvious that when and how much of the information to receive was individual, and it became clear that existing means to disposal that could make nursing easier when it comes to inform and teach patients. An informative video and a heart rehabilitation program showed good results in the returning to sexual activity.

[Abstract]: Mapping agencies, national and regional, are finding it increasingly difficult to maintain the currency of their suite of map related products and services. These products include topographic maps and the provision of up to date topographic data. The maintenance of this socially important spatial information is at issue through the duplication of effort that presently exists within government agencies at all levels. A dedicated data sharing and topographic maintenance program has the potential to solve all of these issues. The "NOW Map" gives the "map hungry" public the ability to obtain spatially located data and products in time frames and formats of their choosing. This system is capable of delivering consistent, dynamic and contemporary geospatial information. It will be flexible, in response to a modern ever-changing society, and capable of providing up to date topographic maps and data that not only meets current standards, but also continually exceeds them. After the development of initial procedures, a pilot study was conducted to expand and further refine data collection and analysis procedures. This was followed by a final data-gathering research phase. The research used relevant local, interstate and international examples in all areas of the study. The outcomes of the pilot study and analysis of the second research segment demonstrated that maps can be maintained more efficiently through the utilisation of accurate up to date information. These topographically significant updates can be provided incrementally by organisations that maintain data as part of their own core business.

Alla kommer dagligen i kontakt med prestanda. Vare sig det är att köra bil eller att starta sin TV i hemmet så finns det prestanda i dessa av en viss mängd vilket resulterar i hur snabbt bilen accelererar och hur mycket den orkar med, eller hur snabbt TV:n startar och byter kanal. Detta är två olika scenarion där de flesta troligtvis bryr sig mer om bilscenariot. Detta kan dock förändras helt plötsligt när det tar tio sekunder att byta kanal på sin TV. Man kan då säga att prestanda inte prioriterats och att kunden då blir lidande. Utifrån dessa scenarion kan man se hur viktigt prestanda kan vara, även i vardagliga situationer som vi inte ens reflekterar över. Det är just detta som vi vill belysa och hjälpa till med i denna undersökning - att identifiera hur man kan säkerställa att sina applikationer uppfyller prestandakrav. I undersökningen har vi tillämpat aktionsforskning och utgått ifrån aktuella teorier inom testning genom en litteraturstudie av vetenskapliga artiklar inom ämnet såväl som facklitteratur. För att vidare verifiera detta så genomfördes även en intervjustudie hos Transportstyrelsen. Vi har i undersökningen identifierat att det finns ett tydligt behov i många applikationer av just prestandatester. Andra viktiga saker som framkommit är att det kan vara svårt att genomföra prestandatester på ett tillräckligt omfattande sätt och att det kräver tillgång till automatiserade verktyg för att underlätta testningen. Studien har resulterat i riktlinjer för vilka prestandatester som bör utföras, vem som bör utföra dessa, när de bör genomföras, vilket verktyg som kan användas och sist varför man bör göra just dessa. Genom att följa dessa riktlinjer så kan man motivera sin prestandatestning för projekten samt avgöra utifrån dessa om prestandatestning bör genomföras i ett specifikt projekt.

Nowadays people use mobile phones and other mobile devices. Most of us have a small computing device that is always with us. People use it example for calling, as calendar and organizer. Mobile devices with GPS receiver are also used to find paths in navigation. The main disadvantage of those systems is that we have to know places which we want to visit and they usually do not store any usable, valuable information about points of interest except phone numbers and addresses. The main idea of this thesis was to design a system that will run on most of phones and palms and will be helpful when visiting some new places and cities. This system should be able to find a route using user criteria. Those criteria should be simple and natural, like for example: a list of museums, the most famous historical objects, restaurants to visit, constraints to travel by bus and by walking. The system should find a path that fulfils those criteria, show it on screen, show names of objects, some short descriptions and photos of them and possible entrance costs. It should also be able to estimate time needed to travel from one object to the next and if it is possible, advise which bus line or other public means of transport may be used. It should be helpful for people that want to visit a city without having much information about it. Paths that are output of this system are only a proposition for trip. They will not be optimal but can not be counterintuitive and must be acceptable by the user.
