Pełny tekst źródłaThis PhD thesis aims to pursue the historical research carried out over the last twenty years on the economy of Marseille in the contemporary era. The changes that took place in the second half of the twentieth century (1945-1992) led to the gradual disappearance of a centuries-old system that combined the import of raw materials from colonial overseas, processing in coastal areas, and then re-exporting the resulting products to the hinterland or foreland. At the same time as the iconic branches of this system were weakening – oil and soap, mineral chemicals, food processing activities – some companies resisted the wave of closures, while other sectors were emerging – oil, steel, container logistics – in connection with the western expansion of port infrastructures towards Lavéra from 1952, then towards the Gulf of Fos-sur-Mer from 1968.Without easy access to the documents of the period in public archives, the causes, rhythms, stakeholders and precise details of these phenomena remain unknown. The files of the Port autonome de Marseille (Autonomous Port of Marseille) created in 1966, supplemented by the archives of the port authorities that preceded it, have shed new light on the situation since the end of the Second World War. Containing rich documentation on the strategies, discourses and representations of the stakeholders as well as unpublished quantitative data, they also allow an examination of the environmental issues raised by the creation of the Fos complex, symbol of a productivistic, polluting and energy-consuming model of development at the very heart of the "Glorious Thirties"

Pełny tekst źródłaThe Port of Marseille-Fos, strengthened by its 10 000 hectares located at the mouth of the second largest river of the mediterranean basin is a center piece of a global network and a central core of a local network. Interfacing maritime and land stakes, the area which is influenced by this international port must become aware of this complex system which surrounds it. It is the main object of this action research work. The approach presented is structured around the concept of the "territorial manufacturing plant" which links the analytical vision of productivity to that of the plant and the systemic vision associated to sustainable territorial development. This concept has enabled the setting up of a process based on volontary prospective, concertation, action and innovation, which aroused the port's local network, which allowed it to change from a passive state to a receptive one. . . First step toward a territorial pact. The work carried out is based on a precise analysis of the port system problematic and it proposes a method which allows to coordinate the territorial "manufacturing plant" in order to better understand and govern its regulation systems / retroactions (economic, environmental and social). The concrete results are presented and commented in order to finally propose a Territorial Economic Intelligence Master Plan for the areas influenced by the Port of Marseille-Fos. This thesis is the first step of a long process which will lead this territory toward new richnesses

Focused on the determinants of segregation in old regime Marseilles, this thesis considers the political and legal means by which the citadinity is built. In a conflicting political configuration, observing the definition of legitimate and illegitimate citizens highlights the nonlinear evolution of shared sovereignty between the many competent juridictions in the city. After thinking on the consequences of the "édit d'affranchissement du port' (1669) in terms of administration of urban citizenship, the purpose is organized around two major mobilisations of the new traders' power against the presence of foreigners in the city, during the first half-century of Louis XIV's reign. These cases concern successively a small community of jewish merchants from Livorno and Nice (1670- 1682), and the various groups that make up the people of the king's galleys : slaves, convicts, convicts' wive, released convicts, soldiers (1680-1710). Concentrated on indigenous systems of justification and contextualization, our study seeks to account for the complex issues which govern protection as well as the expulsion of foreign groups in Marseilles. It is also to consider the power relations involved in these controversies, and subtle rebalancing following the mobilizations. Then appears a map of the many membership's operators who collectively participate in perpetual redefinition of margins of the political community

Pełny tekst źródłaThrough research concerning boating and sailing in marseilles, we have tried to build up an archetypal portrait of sportsmen and to classify them from the view point of their socio-professional profile. We have chosen to describe a moment still relatively free of any social implications and cultural influnces which usually lead to creating intercommunities sharing "class and classing activities". Okur cross-examination and questionnaires have put forward many variables which, in turn, have been integrated into a system of their own tgrough proper statistical treatment, so as to objectify their own "living niche" : we have studied the various approaches to the practice of sea sports (by a prior ethnographic survey), the relationship between daily social schedule, urban ecology and geography of the aforesaid sports practice, conditions and way of life (financial resources, career duties, family cares, etc. ) life course leading to the practice of sea-sports. . . The system itself can be described as an established structured equilibrium between different living units (leisure, work, time spent at home, practice of sports. . . ). To clarify the affinities between social groups and sports practice we have tried to find determinatives others than social judgement or personal taste, focusing chiefly on the tensions inherent to choosing between various opportunities to practise an activity whatsoever, namely, in our study, sea-related sporting leisure

Pełny tekst źródłaThe generalisation of the logistic policy in organizing container chains which the very nature a such a transport system enables, entails a complete re-evaluation of port status and demands a new approach of transport production, namely of the handling. As a basic element of port passage and as service production, handling must be satisfactory in terms of container circulation quality -rapidity, reliability, rate. Also, handling must be synchronised with the connected links of the chains. A detailed analysis of quayside production -a crucial operation in port handling shows that there is a need for o more adapted management : exploitation and maintenance should be regarded as the two productive aspects of the activity; on the other hand, quayside production should be integrated so that the global efficiency of actions can be evaluated at the strategic level of "port production". Within this management approach, the development of the maintenance function as an effective logistic support allows a technical and economic control of quayside production. In this aim, the improvement of intervention methods during and off exploitation will guarantee control of hazards and of technical production costs and allow a more scientific management of equipment -of unloading cranes especially. .

The exponential growth of human activities, particularly the acceleration of urbanization and the resulting massive pressure on natural resources, heralds the era of the Anthropocene. This thesis focuses on "urban green frames", conceived as new land-use planning tools aimed at reconstituting an ecological network in order to preserve biodiversity both in natural areas and in urban areas. The spatial pattern of green frames has its roots in the practices of landscape architects and urban planners internationally since the second half of the nineteenth century. We start from the hypothesis that urban green fields are means of urban amenity. Three approaches have been mobilized: biographical, geo-historical and social representations. This thesis pays particular attention to the question of representations and social practices associated with "nature in the city": an entry mobilized to understand the methods of implementation of green networks in Marseille and Strasbourg

Pełny tekst źródłaTougher particulate matter regulations around the world and especially in Europe point out the need of source apportionment studies in order to better understand the different primary and secondary sources of organic aerosol, a major fraction of particulate matter that remains not well constrained. The work carried out in this thesis takes part of the FORMES project whose main objective is the source apportionment of the organic aerosol using different approaches, including mainly CMB modelling, AMS/PMF and radiocarbon (14C) measurements. The aerosol characterisation was performed within two intensive field campaigns conducted in two contrasted urban environments: Grenoble during winter and Marseille during summer. The present work focuses on the Marseille case study that presents a particularly complex environment, combining an intense photochemistry to a mixture of primary emissions including shipping and industrial emissions. Primary organic carbon (POC) apportioned using CMB modelling contributed on average for only 22% and was dominated by vehicular emissions accounting on average for 17% of OC. Even though, industrial emissions contribute for only 2.3% of the total OC, they are associated with ultrafine particles and high concentrations of Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons and heavy metals such as Pb, Ni and V, which most likely relate them with acute health outcomes. Whereas in Grenoble the organic aerosol was dominated by wood burning smoke (70% of OC), this source was negligible in Marseille contributing for less than 1% of OC. The main result from this source apportionment exercise is that 78% of OC mass cannot be attributed to the major primary sources and remains un-apportioned; this fraction is mostly associated with secondary organic aerosol. Radiocarbon measurements suggest that more than 70% of this fraction is of modern origins, assigned predominantly to biogenic secondary organic carbon (BSOC). Therefore, contributions from three traditional BSOC precursors, isoprene, α-pinene and β-caryophellene, were considered using a marker based approach. The aggregate contribution from BSOC derived from these precursors was estimated at only 4.2% of total OC. As a result, these estimates underpredict the high loading of OC. This underestimation can be associated with (i) uncertainties underlying the marker-based approach, (ii) presence of other SOC precursors and (iii) further processing of fresh SOC, as indicated by organosulfates (RSO4) and HUmic LIke Substances (HULIS) measurements. This HULIS can contribute up to 40% of the unattributed OC
