Streszczenie:
In this paper are presented challenges that countries of European Union face when recycling ships and composite boats. European ship owners control over 40 % of the world’s merchant ship fleet, with Greece as the top ship-owning country globally. Nowadays, ship recycling is being regulated and positive progression was made towards it since steel industry belongs in world’s top five and stable market and makes recycling of scrap metals from ships attractive. On the other hand, yachts, sailing boats and small boats are mainly made from composite materials because of their favourable properties, making them great investment, but end-of-life management is more complicated and not quite regulated by the law yet. Unlike commercially oriented ships, which are constantly in move and disposed when the maintenance costs of the vessel start to exceed possible revenue, old boats for recreational and tourism-oriented purposes most rarely move. Hundreds of thousands lie in marinas and are abandoned due to the maintenance costs thus discouraging the owners from keeping it. Hence, a growing number of marinas worldwide will have the problem of boat disposal in a sustainable way in the future. In this paper is given short summary on waste ships and boats management issues. The emphasis is on waste management of small composite boats

Invasive mosquito vector species have been inadvertently transported to new areas by humans for decades. Strong evidence supports that monitoring maritime, terrestrial, and aerial points of entry is an essential part of the effort to curb the invasion and establishment of invasive vector mosquito species. Miami-Dade County, Florida is an important operational hub for the cruise ship industry and leisure boats that routinely visit nearby areas in the Caribbean, and freight cargo ships transporting goods from Miami-Dade to Caribbean countries and vice versa. To deal with the increasing public health concern, we hypothesized that mosquito surveillance in small- and medium-sized maritime ports of entry in Miami-Dade is crucial to allow the early detection of invasive mosquito species. Therefore, we have selected 12 small- and medium-sized maritime ports of entry in Miami-Dade County with an increased flow of people and commodities that were not covered by the current mosquito surveillance system. Collection sites were comprised of two distinct environments, four marinas with international traffic of leisure boats, and eight maintenance and commercial freight cargo ship ports. Mosquitoes were collected weekly at each of the 12 collection sites for 24 hours for 6 weeks in the Spring and then for 6 additional weeks in the Summer using BG-Sentinel traps. A total of 32,590 mosquitoes were collected, with Culex quinquefasciatus and Aedes aegypti being the most abundant species totaling 19,987 and 11,247 specimens collected, respectively. Our results show that important mosquito vector species were present in great numbers in all of the 12 maritime ports of entry surveyed during this study. The relative abundance of Cx. quinquefasciatus and Ae. aegypti was substantially higher in the commercial freight cargo ship ports than in the marinas. These results indicate that even though both areas are conducive for the proliferation of vector mosquitoes, the port area in the Miami River is especially suitable for the proliferation of vector mosquitoes. Therefore, this potentially allows the establishment of invasive mosquito species inadvertently brought in by cargo freights.

Streszczenie:
Cline’s Point Marina, located in Port Aransas, TX, has been experiencing detrimental conditions near the marina’s entrance and within the marina itself during the passage of deep-draft ship traffic. The wave activity is primarily generated by pressure field effects from large, laden outbound vessels in Corpus Christi Ship Channel (CCSC). The basin was originally protected by an approximately 180 ft. long breakwater constructed in 1976 on the west side of the entrance which by 1980 has deteriorated and partially failed to 120 ft. long breakwater and continued deteriorating over time, reaching its approximate 60 ft. long current condition by 2003. The deterioration of this breakwater has reportedly resulted in enhanced penetration of deep-draft vessel wave activity into the marina (Figure 1). Mott MacDonald (MM) evaluated the mechanisms by which waves are generated in the navigation channel, transform, and enter the harbor, quantified the level of protection afforded by past and present entrance breakwater configuration(s), and developed conceptual alternatives for improving conditions inside the marina.

The article presents the analysis results of changes in the operability of silicone dampers of torsional vibrations of marine diesel engines on the basis of practical measurements carried out by the Testing Center Marine Technology Service under the Astrakhan State Technical University (TC MTS). TC MTS is accredited by the Russian classification society - the Russian Maritime Register of Shipping (RMRS) in the field of calculation and measurement of torsional vibrations. During its functioning (2001 – to date) the TC MTS has conducted torsiographing procedures of the machine-propulsion systems (MPS) of more than 200 vessels. The large amount of data obtained makes it possible to assess the dynamics of changes in the parameters of torsional vibrations, including amplitude and frequency, according to the results of periodic torsiographing the ship MPS. A change in the technical condition of the torsional vibration damper (a decrease in the efficiency of its operation) and the lack of its constant monitoring lead to the increasing stresses in the ship shaft line and, as a result, to a growing risk of its breakdown, which confirms the urgency of the study. There are given the images as real examples of ship operation failure: Aratere ship shaft fracture, damper mass wedging due to silicone fluid leakage, silicone fluid viscosity increasing to suspension state due to wear products, wear of silicone damper flyweight surfaces, silicone damper body wear. The Hasse & Wrede damper cap fastening with bolts is illustrated.

In a ship planning can not be separated from the planning of the ship launching process. A ship can glide perfectly if it has a high enough planning time and costs. The launch process itself is divided into several ways. The choice of this method needs to be considered because it relates to the budget and preparations made. The method used is the calculation according to the numerical approach assisted by computational software. In the first calculation it is planned with the slipway launch, and then the next one is planned with the airbags that have been implemented previously. The purpose of this study is to provide analysis results as a consideration in implementing the slipway and airbag ship launching method on KM ships. Belt Nusantara 72 measuring 2000 DWT. In steps 5 to 6, both the slipway and the airbags experience a stern lift condition with a value (yVd) of 1396.97 ton. Based on the economic analysis of the hours of people using airbags, there is a decrease in working hours by 44% when compared to the launch using a slipway. This also happened to work productivity where it was 84% more time effective. When viewed from an investment point of view, the use of slipways is actually more economical than airbag, the difference is 43% more economical using slipways. Both types of launch can be applied by looking at the economical side and the ability of each shipyard in carrying out the launching process and seeing the main size of the ship to be launched.

This study aims to produce a prototype tool that can be used as a limitation of access to employee workspaces as part of improving internal control. The current problem, PT. Trijaya Global Marindo is a company engaged in sea transportation services. Every day many applicants or ship crews come to the office, so that many people pass in and out of the room, especially between the main door/office living room and the employee's room door, which currently has no security access installed. This causes someone other than the employee to leave the employee's room freely. The absence of these access restrictions can increase vulnerability to stealing goods or company data by outsiders. The method that will be used in this research is the Research & Development (R&D) method with data collection using field studies by observing the traffic of people at PT. Trijaya Global Marindo and analyzed the determinants of the installation point of the access restriction prototype. The results of the study were a prototype of an automatic door locking system using a fingerprint sensor FPM10A and Arduino Uno R3 which had passed the test using 20 fingerprint samples from 10 employees. After the prototype has succeeded in reading the recorded fingerprint, the door can be opened, for fingerprints that have not been recorded, the door remains locked

The article describes possible solutions of the problem connected with shortening shipbuilding construction time as well as reducing production costs. To reduce the total amount of labour involved in the manufacture and installation of ship piping systems, which is 20% compared to the total labour volume of shipbuilding, authors provide the research on the possibility of manufacturing straight pipe sections with permissible deviations in combination with free flanges, analysis of deviation compensation for pipelines through the use of straight pipe sections manufactured with permissible tolerance and proposing new theoretical solutions to improve manufacturing and installing ship piping systems. Introduction of these technologies contributes to reduction of cycles of building and decrease in labour-intensiveness of pipeline works when carrying out marine orders. The chart of modeling the system of pipelines is presented. A straight pipe manufactured with an allowable deflection on a flat support and a loose flange attached to the end of the welded pipe are shown. The scheme of a permissible deviation α at mounting the connections between pipes is considered. The possibility of assembling curved pipelines using straight pipe sections is described in detail. The compensation zone is illustrated using the rotation of two pairs of deflected straight pipes. A block diagram of the application of research results in manufacturing and mounting a pipeline system has been developed

Both species were collected in the marina of Funchal, Madeira Island, Portugal, during monitoring surveys in 2015. Moreover, several specimens ofS. walkeriwere also found in a foreign recreational yacht hull, during a dry dock inspection. These findings suggest that hull fouling is a significant vector for the introductions of marine invertebrates into the Madeira island system.

The calculation of ice-induced loads on ships is still mainly based on empirical models. In order to gain a better physical understanding of the loading on ice-going vessels, Det Norske Veritas launched an <i>ice load monitoring<i> project involving full scale trials with the coastguard vessel KV Svalbard during the winters 2006, 2007 and 2011. The results from the full scale measurements conducted with KV Svalbard has been topic of several earlier master's thesis at NTNU,The master thesis consists of four parts. The first part is a literature review of the mechanical and physical properties of sea ice.The second part is a review of the rule sets developed by DNV and the IACS regarding vessels operating in ice infested waters. Both design principles and numerical values have been evaluated. The main difference between the designs principles used, is that IACS base their rules on a plastic method of approach, while DNV uses an elastic method. Despite the difference in the design principles, when comparing their numerical values turned out to be quite similar. The DNV rules are in general most conservative for the smaller vessels and the IACS rules the most conservative for large vessels. The third part consists of a finite element study of a part of the bow on KV Svalbard. A systematic load scheme is used, consisting of 102 load cases. For each of the stress factors there where made graphs that showed the stress at the sensor location when moving the patch load. The sensor mounted on the frame were able to measure load that was within the frame loading area and sensor mounted on the stringer could measure stress for all of the load cases in the horizontal directions. One of the explanations for this is that the stringer transfers stress from the load patch area that could be measured by the sensors. The last part consists of a comparison between measurements from the full scale trials and the results from the 102 load cases. This comparison is done through a weighted summation method where 5 different load cases are combined to represent the measured result, and a load factor is calculated for each load case for its contribution of the measured results. The stress component used in this comparison is the shear stress tau xy The load cases were tested against the 11 measurements from the full scale trials. There were in total 11 load cases that gave positive factors for all of the 11 measurements at the same time. A figure was made to show which load cases were likely to contribute in the solution of the load cases. Load cases inside the frame loading area have the largest load factors for the solution of measurements. This load decision scheme is very sensitive to the selection of load cases and boundary conditions. A change of the boundary conditions for the model was tried out for 7 load cases, and with changed boundary conditions, only 5 gave positive load factors. The results of this thesis shows that is possible to find many solution to the measured result by combining many load case, but is it not possible to decide <i>the<i> solution.

Streszczenie:
Today we are sitting on a huge wealth of structural reliability theory but its application in ship design and construction is far behind. Researchers and practitioners face a daunting task of dove-tailing the theoretical achievements into the established processes in the industry. The research is aimed to create a computational framework to facilitate fatigue reliability of ship structures. Modeling, transformation and optimization, the three key elements underlying the success of computational mechanics are adopted as the basic methodology through the research. The whole work is presented in a way that is most suitable for software development. The foundation of the framework is constituted of reliability methods at component level. Looking at the second-moment reliability theory from a minimum distance point of view the author derives a generic set of formulations that incorporate all major first and second order reliability methods (FORM, SORM). Practical ways to treat correlation and non- Gaussian variables are discussed in detail. Monte Carlo simulation (MCS) also accounts for significant part of the research with emphasis on variance reduction techniques in a proposed Markov chain kernel method. Existing response surface methods (RSM) are reviewed and improved with much weight given to sampling techniques and determination of the quadratic form. Time-variant problem is touched upon and methods to convert it to nested reliability problems are discussed. In the upper layer of the framework common fatigue damage models are compared. Random process simulation and rain-flow counting are used to study effect of wide-banded non-Gaussian process. At the center of this layer is spectral fatigue analysis based on SN curve and first-principle stress and hydrodynamic analysis. Pseudo-excitation is introduced to get linear equivalent stress RAO in the non-linear ship-wave system. Finally response surface method is applied to this model to calculate probability of failure and design sensitivity in the case studies of a double hull oil tanker and a bulk carrier.

Li, Chenxuan. "Risk management in ship finance : a marine insurance perspective". Thesis, University of Exeter, 2017. http://hdl.handle.net/10871/33735.

Pełny tekst źródła
Streszczenie:
The long-standing concept of risk management in the financial sector has attracted more attention after the financial crisis of 2007–2008. In the context of ship finance, marine insurance has proven itself to be an effective tool to transfer certain shipping risks to insurers who are not directly involved in the ship finance projects. This thesis provides original suggestions concerning the role of marine insurance in ship finance, combining a financial perspective, an insurance perspective and a legal perspective. Marine insurance is a key risk management technique that fits into the general risk management process adopted by ship financiers. However, it is not necessarily the most appropriate technique in every particular case due to its limitations and costs. As a result, insurance gaps are identified to assist financiers in optimising the use of marine insurance and to help insurers to spot business opportunities. Marine insurance is a contract which is to be governed by and construed in accordance with the law. At the same time, marine insurance is a contract rather than a guarantee: if something goes wrong in the ship finance package and there is a marine policy, it should not be assumed that the policy represents money in the bank. Things can go wrong under the policy: apart from the legal risks relating to claims under the policy, the law itself may be a risk. In the context of ship finance, the risk transfer is not the only role of marine insurance. Other roles include, inter alia, reducing capital costs, improving the liquidity of shipowners and shipbuilders, and providing peace of mind for ship financiers. Nevertheless, such roles can only be created and sustained if the insurance contracts are carefully drafted and the legal risks are properly managed. The intention has been to state the law as it stands on October 28, 2017.

Streszczenie:
As a result of the steadily increasing activities related to marine technology in Arctic regions, Det Norske Veritas has launched an ice load monitoring project to gather knowledge of the ice conditions and prevailing ice-induced actions in the region. The intention of the following thesis is to study different aspects related to design of ice-going vessels, in particular the design scenario where a vessel impacts an ice ridge. The introductory part of the thesis gives an overview of important aspects related to sea ice, including different types of ice features and their physical and mechanical properties. The microstructure of pure ice and formation mechanisms of sea ice are briefly described, and mechanical properties such as elasticity and compressive strength are discussed. Further, a study of existing models for estimation of ice-induced loading on ships is carried out, with focus on local hull plating pressure and global loading due to ice ridge impact.A comparative study of design rules developed by Det Norske Veritas and the International Association of Classification Societies is conducted, and important differences between the two separate rules are identified. The subdivision of class notations is described, and differences in definition of design loads and corresponding requirements are presented. A general conclusion is that the rules developed by Det Norske Veritas are more specific when it comes to governing design scenarios, while rules set forth by the International Association of Classification Societies are more universal in terms of vessel type and prevailing ice conditions. Two separate finite element models based on coastguard vessel KV Svalbard are developed, including a simplified beam element model and a detailed shell element model. Quasi-static and dynamic response analyses for ice ridge impact loading are carried out, where the duration of the load pulse is varied systematically from 0.25~s to 2.0~s. The simplified finite element model is seen to give larger overall maximum response compared with the detailed model, but the difference decreases as the pulse duration is increased. It is observed that quasi-static response is overall larger than dynamic response for both finite element models within the defined pulse duration range. However, the ratio of maximum dynamic to maximum quasi-static response is seen to be positively correlated with the load pulse duration, and a close-to-linear relationship is observed.A study of different parameter variations is performed in order to investigate the importance of various pulse shapes, mass models, damping models and solution methods. Variations are only performed using the simplified beam model. It can be concluded that the shape of the load pulse is of minor importance for dynamic response when the pulse duration is short. However, the pulse shape becomes increasingly important for longer load pulses. An opposite trend is observed when varying the mass model, where a negligible difference in dynamic response is seen for longer load pulses. The difference increases somewhat for shorter load pulses, but can be considered unimportant for dynamic response within the investigated duration interval. It is further observed that the choice of damping model is of significant importance compared with other investigated parameters, and the difference in predicted response remains constant within the investigated pulse duration interval. The choice of solution method is however unimportant for analysis using the simplified beam model. In order to verify the applicability of the finite element models, full scale sea trial measurements of global motions from KV Svalbard are analysed and compared with finite element results. Difference between measured and calculated response during ice ridge impact is seen to be significant, where the calculated maximum response is close to 4 times larger than the maximum measured response. Iterative modifications of the load pulse shape are performed in order to reproduce the measured response history following ice ridge impact, and quite strong agreement is obtained between measured and calculated response.

Streszczenie:
Collisions and groundings at sea still occur, and can result in financial loss, loss of life, and damage to the environment. Due to the size and capacity of moden vessels, damage can be extensive. Statistics indicate that the primary cause of accidents at sea is human error, which is often attributed to misinterpretation of the information presented to the mariner. Until recently, data collected from sensors about the vessel were displayed on the bridge individually, leaving the mariner to assimilate the material, make decisions and alter the vessels controls as appropriate. With the advent of the microprocessor a small amount of integration has taken place, but not to the extent that it has in other industries, for example the aerospace industry. This thesis presents a practical method of integrating all the navigation sensors. Through the use of Kalman filtering, an estimate of the state of the vessel is obtained using all the data available. Previous research in this field has not been implemented due to the complexity of the ship modelling process required, this is overcome by incorporating a system identification proceedure into the filter. The system further reduces the demands on the mariner by applying optimal control theory to guide the vessel on a predetermined track. Hazards such as other vessels are not incorporated into this work but they are specified in further research. Further development work is also required to reduce computation time.

Streszczenie:
Ship careening, which consists of stripping antifouling paint, generates waste. These residues contain different chemical contaminants that can have an impact on the marine environment. The implementation of the Marine Environment Strategy Framework Directive has been declined through the adoption of Action Plans. Cerema was mandated by the Ministry of Ecology to carry out a national study identifying the level of equipment in fairing areas of marinas, anchorages and private shipyards. Streszczenie:
In recent GTAP data releases, in transforming energy volumes data from the IEA extended energy balances to an input-output format, we record inflows into the energy balances flow "international marine bunkers" as exports, but record no corresponding imports. Here, we revise the energy module to balance the trade flows by recording international marine bunker usage as imports into the country of residence of the ship operator, and as usage by that country’s transport industry. We allocate usage across countries in proportion to the money value of their water transport services exports.

Streszczenie:
The Geological Survey of Canada (GSC) undertook marine fieldwork onboard the Canadian Coast Guard Ship (CCGS) Vector to locate and map potential geohazards and geological features in the Salish Sea in the interest of public safety from August 11-18, 2021. This work was conducted under the Natural Resources Canada Marine Geoscience for Marine Spatial Planning (MGMSP) and the Public Safety Geoscience Programs. The GSC had observed multiple potential faults in existing data near Central Haro Strait, Stuart Channel, South of Hornby Island and near Cape Lazo through existing CHIRP and multibeam bathymetry data but required further data to quantify their activity and potential seismic risk (Barrie et al, 2021). In addition to fault activity, the GSC had detected numerous large underwater landslide deposits in Howe Sound and Saanich Inlet. The GSC required further data to constrain volumes and timing of slide activity. In English Bay the origin and evolution of a field of pockmarks was poorly understood. In Burrard Inlet, the survey required a better understanding of frequency of landslides as well as depth of sediment in order to understand natural sediment depositional rates. The research expedition included deep-tow system (DTS) sub-bottom surveys and multibeam water column and bathymetric surveys in each of these areas to better understand these marine geohazards and processes. Hydrographic surveys were completed by the Canadian Hydrographic Service (CHS) at night in Pylades Channel and near Point Grey to maximize use of ship time. Weather was good, seas were calm, and good quality data were collected. The data collected will be made publicly available and have the potential to contribute to building codes and to help communities in their decision-making and understanding of risks.
