Streszczenie:
The main goal of this study is to analyze the magnetic, dielectric, and magneto-dielectric characteristics of Pb1− x La x Ti1− x O 3 - (Ba1–3 x Nd2 x )4Co2Fe36O60 (where x = 0.25) composite material at various temperatures T1-T3 (i.e 1100°C ,1200°C, 1300°C respectively). The X-ray diffraction investigation has been introduced in order to pinpoint the creation of the U-type hexaferrite phase. SEM micrographs reveal that sample sintered at T2 reached the maximum value of grain size and the largest experimental density value of 6.14 g/cm3 due to the composite material's intensified grain growth. The magnetic investigations further indicate that the sample T2 achieved the highest remnant magnetization, measuring 1.550 emu/g, revealing the accuracy of the sintering temperature. The magneto-dielectric investigations demonstrate the presence of multiferroicity in all samples, and came to the conclusion that sample T2 exhibits the highest magneto-dielectric response of 41.99 at 1.2 Tesla and a magneto-dielectric coefficient (γ) of around 0.7609 g2/emu2. Numerous metrics, including nyquist plots, impedance, electrical modulus, dielectric constant, and conductivity, were carefully examined in order to determine the electrical properties of the proposed sample. It was found that sample T2 produced the enhanced results and had the right temperature for the substance to develop.

Streszczenie:
Multiferroic composites consisting of a single-phase multiferroic [0.6(PbZr0.53Ti0.47O3)-0.4(PbFe0.5Ta0.5)O3] as a matrix and a magnetostrictive phase (Co0.6Zn0.4Fe1.7Mn0.3O4) dispersed in the matrix are fabricated via hybrid synthesis technique. The structure and surface morphology studies using x-ray diffraction and field emission scanning electron microscopy techniques indicate the formation of 3-0 type particulate composites. Coexistence of soft-magnetic behavior and ferroelectric characteristics are confirmed for composites from magnetization vs magnetic field (M–H) and polarization vs electric field (P–E) measurements, respectively. Magneto-dielectric (MD) measurement shows significant changes in the dielectric properties with the application of a magnetic field, indicating the existence of strong MD behavior. The biquadratic nature of magneto-electric (ME) coupling is described by the Landau free energy equation arising from the strain transfer at the interfaces between the constituent phases. The direct magneto-electric voltage coefficient measurement also confirms very strong coupling between ferroelectricity and magnetism and supports the strain-mediated magneto-electric effect in composites. The Φ = 0.3 composite exhibits the maximum ME coefficient of 20.72 mV/cm Oe with MS = 24.62 emu/g, HC = 59.66 Oe, and piezoelectric coefficient value d33 = 19 pC/N. The strong magneto-electric effect along with low dielectric loss at room temperature in these composites suggests their suitability for multifunctional magneto-electric device applications such as magnetic sensors, etc.

While high-[subscript K] dielectrics utilized in CMOS technology are noted for their highly insulating characteristics, they have demonstrated surprising electrolytic behavior as key components in a variety of thin film memory devices, including those based on magneto-ionic and memristive behavior. In this work, we focus on the rare earth sesquioxide, Gd₂O₃, a well-known high-κ dielectric that has exhibited a variety of electrolytic properties during the development and operation of the first magneto-ionic devices developed at MIT. Specifically, we focused our investigation on the defect chemistry and electrical properties of Gd₂O₃ in order to better understand the relationship between the structure, chemistry, processing conditions, and operating environment and the material's low-temperature ionic and electronic transport properties and the means for their optimization vis-à-vis memory device operation.
Phase (monoclinic and cubic) and dopant controlled (Ca, Ce, Sr, Zr) polycrystalline pellets of 8 different Gd₂O₃ systems were prepared to investigate various defect regimes in consideration of this material's polymorphism. We considered intrinsic anion-Frenkel disorder and electronic disorder, equilibration with the gas phase, water incorporation, and dopant incorporation in the defect modeling, taking into account the roles of crystallographic structure as well as oxygen ion defect and protonic generation. The primary method utilized to characterize the defect chemistry and transport properties of Gd₂O₃ was the analysis of the dopant, p0₂ and temperature dependencies of the electrical conductivity extracted from complex impedance spectra obtained over the p0₂ range of 1 to 10⁻¹⁵ atm, for 5 isotherms between 700 and 900 °C with 50 °C steps and for a range of acceptor and donor dopants.
Based on the p0₂ dependency of conductivities, in light of the defect modeling, the majority point defects in each system were identified. Electronic and ionic migration energies and thermodynamic parameters were extracted via the defect modeling and temperature dependencies of conductivities. In nearly all cases, the predominant charge carrier under oxidizing conditions at elevated temperatures was identified as the p-type electron-hole, largely due to oxygen excess non-stoichiometry in these systems. With decreasing p0₂, transport tended to switch from semiconducting towards ionic. Depending on phase, dopant type & concentration, temperature, and relative humidity, the predominant ionic conductivity was found to be via oxygen interstitials, oxygen vacancies, and/or protons, the latter given by the propensity of Gd₂O₃ to take up water in solid solution from the environment by the formation of OH[superscript .]species.
Unexpectedly, the ionic mobilities of defects in the denser and less symmetric monoclinic system exhibited higher ionic mobilities than the more open bixbyite structure. The hole electronic species in the investigated systems were found to migrate via the small polaron hopping mechanism with rather large hopping energies. This resulted in an inversion of hole and proton mobility magnitudes at reduced temperatures in the monoclinic system. Extrapolation of ionic and electronic defect conductivities to near room temperature, based on our derived defect and transport models, was not able to explain, on its own, the observed electrolytic properties of the Gd₂O₃ thin films utilized in magneto-ionic devices.
In an attempt to connect the transport properties obtained under equilibrium conditions at elevated temperatures with the behavior of Gd₂O₃ near room temperature, selected thin films Gd₂O₃, prepared by pulsed laser deposition or sputtering, were investigated by complex impedance spectroscopy over the temperature range of 20 - 170°C. While films prepared under dry conditions were indeed found to be highly electrically insulating, films exposed to water vapor exhibited dramatically higher proton conductivities (more than ~10⁸ x) than values extrapolated from high temperature. Parallel thermogravimetric analysis on Gd₂O₃ powder specimens, as a function of temperature, under high humidity conditions, demonstrated a correlation between uptake/loss of incorporated water and conductivity upon cooling and heating, respectively.
We can therefore conclude that the large disconnect between the electrical and electrolytic properties observed between high-κ dielectrics used in CMOS devices such as Gd₂O₃, and their much more highly conductive counterparts used in thin film memory devices, depends strategically on the thin film processing conditions. High-κ dielectrics are fabricated in carefully controlled environments with low relative humidity, while research on, for example, Gd₂O₃ - based magneto-ionic memory devices, is performed under ambient laboratory conditions, where significant water uptake becomes possible at surfaces and grain boundaries. The results and insights obtained in this study can be expected to be applied in achieving further progress in the understanding and optimization of magneto-ionic, memristive, and other devices that rely on proton gating.

Magneto-dielectric composites materials are those which perform both magnetic and dielectric properties in one single component. Due to the coupling between the ferroelectric and ferromagnetic, the magnetization can be controlled by an applied electric field, while the electric polarization can be controlled by applying a magnetic field. The phase connectivity and phase morphology plays an important role in the modifying the magneto-dielectric properties of the composites. Synthesis method is great tool to explore the microstructure and magneto-dielectric properties of the composites. In present work three synthesis methods were adopted to prepare magneto-dielectric composites. They are combustion derived solid-state mixing, combustion derived in-situ synthesis method. BaTiO3 selected for the ferroelectric phase which is having moderate properties of permittivity, loss, piezoelectric constant. CoFe2O4, ZnFe2O4 and Co0.5Zn0.5Fe2O4 are selected for ferrite phase, which are hard, soft and non-magnetic in nature respectively. Ferrite weight percentage was used in magneto-dielectric composites at 20%, 30%, 40%. Structure, microstructure and magneto-dielectric properties of composites were studied and analyzed. Dielectric, magnetic and magneto-dielctric properties of composites varied significantly by varying synthesis method. Traces hexagonal BaTiO3 has been detected when tetragonal BaTiO3 sintered along with ferrites. Plate like morphology of BaTiO3 was evolved along with nearly spherical morphology of BaTiO3 in solid-state derived composites, but no evidence of plate like BaTiO3 in in-situ composites. Cobalt ferrite based composite shows negative magneto-capacitance response in both solid state and in-situ synthesis, which not in other ferrite systems of solid-state and in-situ derived composites. Along with the solid-state and in-situ synthesis methods, ex-situ synthesis method was also adopted to explore in present magneto dielectric composites. Typical 30 wt% ferrite (CoFe2O4, ZnFe2O4 and Co0.5Zn0.5Fe2O4) composites were made in this method. Microstructural study shows large no of plate like BaTiO3 exists in ferrite@BT composites than BT@ferrite composites. Cobalt and zinc ferrite based ex-situ composites show both positive and negative magneto capacitances in 7BT@3(CF/ZF) and 3(CF/ZF)@7BT composites respectively. Cobalt zinc ferrite based ex-situ composite show the positive magneto-capacitance in both 7BT@3CZF and 3CZF@7BT. Magneto-capacitance responses are dependent on both magnetostriction and magnetoresistance. Magneto-capacitance values of about -1.48%, -1.08%, 19.9% and -2.1% were observed in 7BT$3CZF, 7BT#3CZF, 7BT@3CZF and 3CZF@7BT composites respectively. Similarly 9.91%, 19.76% and 19.9% were observe in 7BT@3CF, 7BT@3ZF and 7BT@3CZF composites respectively.

Streszczenie:
Dielectric coatings play an important role in the overall design of active layers for magneto-optic recording. When coated to the thickness required to establish an antireflection condition, an enhancement of the shot noise limited carrier to noise ratio is possible, and significant reduction in the rate of oxidation of the Rare Earth/ Transition Metal (RE-TM) layer is achieved by sandwiching this layer between adjacent layers of certain dielectrics. Even though many dielectrics offer excellent properties in terms of low permeability to oxygen and water vapor, in some cases (for example SiO2) degradation of the RE-TM layer can still proceed via oxidation of the rare earth element, occurring at the RE-TM/dielectric interface(1). In this respect, amorphous C:H coatings would seem to have an advantage advantage, and in this paper we describe a study of the optical properties, surface passivation characteristics and effect on dynamic disk recording performance of amorphous C:H films deposited into active layer structures with TbFe and TbFeCo alloys. The amorphous C:H films were produced by RF plasma deposition from CH4 in a conventional diode reaction chamber. Relatively high deposition rates of 90Å/min are readily achieved. The physical structure and properties of a-C:H films are widely reported, but in particular they are known for their high hardness, low electrical conductivity (σ=10-9 ohm-1 cm-1), high refractive index (n=2.1) and are often termed "diamond like carbon" in the literature. Such films are also optically transparent in the IR, chemically stable, inert, homogeneous (i.e. low pin hole density) and have found wide application elsewhere in the field of optical coatings in the IR.
