Pełny tekst źródłaA glance of the current events of this Church brings to light that the collaboration between magisterial authorities and theologians involved with the task of doctrinal and catechetical education of the Roman Catholic Church experiences some difficulties, especially in more diverse and secularized societies. Sometimes theological research contributes to put the endangerment of the ecclesial communion or its cohesiveness with regard to the faith and moral theology. The instruction of the Roman Curie Donum veritatis of May 24th, 1990 enters in doctrine and in the procedure of regulation of the exercise of the freedom and the responsibility of the catholic theologian and the ecclesiastic to be met to ensure full communion. They are the criteria of orthodoxy, orthopraxy, ecclesial membership and communion.The question of the canonical status of theologians is debated and the catholic authority is obliged to specify the doctrine and the status of the catholic theologian. Does the code of Latin canon law of 1983 foresee rules for the regulation of the mission of the theologian according to the requirement of full ecclesial communion? A thesis in canon law was necessary to provide an initial assessment of the vocation of the catholic theologian, the institution of catholic theology, and the status of catholic theologians under Canon law. How does canonicity assist a faithful who, by the acquisition of recognized skills, wants to become a catholic theologian? How does one evaluate the suitability of the applicant? How to grant a candidate the status of theologian under Canon law and, if necessary, withdraw such status for the good of the Church? How does one guarantee the consciousness and the freedom of the catholic theologian? In case of differences of opinion or disagreement, how does one qualify this situation? Thus, the theologian enjoys liberties recognized by his Church but within the limits of the duty of communion described in canon # 209 § 1 of the Latin Code of 1983 and canon # 12 § 2 of the Code of the Oriental Churches’ Canons

Pełny tekst źródłaThe thesis examines the development of the doctrine of the sacrament of marriage between Pope Pius VIII (1829) and Pope Francis (2022) from the perspective of two notions: the sacredness of marriage and its sacramental consecration. The first appeared as a key notion until the Second Vatican Council, but then lost its importance, although John Paul II re-emphasized it in a speech in 2003. Marriage is – already as a natural institution – a “res sacra”, a sacred reality in relation to God. The notion of consecration emerged in the Magisterium in 1930 and refers more directly to Christian marriage, in its specificity as a sacrament of the New Law. The use of this notion is hesitant at first (spouses receive “a kind of consecration”) and its meaning will only be deepened by John Paul II. Two lines of interpretation will develop: a moral line, based on the thought of Pius XI, and an ecclesiological line, based on the thought of Pius XII. Although the first one dominated reflection until the catecheses of John Paul II on human love (1984), it is the second one which will then come to the fore. Pope Francis will consolidate it. The thesis pays particular attention to the work of the Council, as well as to the magisterium of John Paul II and Pope Francis

A survey taken of Finistère creates links between the Church of Rome and the local church, between the objective to be reached and the means put in practice. The Catholic Church plays a part in the emergence of a sentiment of belonging to Europe. What are the mechanisms implemented to form the idea of European citizenship in practices and representations? The notion of Europeanisation, a new theoretical and methodological form for the sociologist, is presented as a new field and topic for French sociology in Europe. The concept introduces the identity dimensions which complement those already in place. It institutionalises the European phenomenon. The EU is thus portrayed as a new area of socialisation and as an ordinary sphere of activity for politics/the politician and the church/religious

Pełny tekst źródłaWho is in charge of decision-making in the Catholic Church ? The answer seems obvious: the bishops are, for they are entrusted with the « autoritas » and the « potestas », according to apostolic authority. But because the Catholic Church is a complex institution, this study wants to further examine and analyse an ecclesiastical organization in its dynamics so as to account for the role played by influence and interaction in the decision-making process. Within the National Office for Catechesis, itself composed of three structured bodies (the Episcopal Commission, the National Commission and the National Center for Religious Education), the process of taking decisions lies primarily in the hands of administrative officials. Between 1941 and 1951, this administration for catechesis was progressively set up by the catechetical movement as a weapon to enforce its wish to adapt the way catechism is taught. On a national scale, this administration aims at preparing the decisions, building up agreement around them and making sure they will be widely accepted. These decisions are then adopted by the General Assembly of the Conference of Catholic Bishops. In a Catholic Church which by definition is non democratic, this decision-making process allows participation from all actors as well as some degree of power-sharing. Between 1958 and 1973, this Church office had to cope with the crisis of the French Catholic Church. At a time when authority was disputed and institutions challenged, with the French silently but massively withdrawing from religious practice, it had to adapt its message to a changing society, wealthier but also more individualistic. The study of a French Church administration shows the diffusion of this crisis, not only among the catholic faithful but also among the clergy, whose members appear to be under growing existential questioning

Pełny tekst źródłaThe Second Vatican Council and the 1983 Code of Canon Law are one and unique event in the Tradition of Catholic Church. Heirs of one each other, the canonists living complexity. The Code is the normative form of Tradition; the challenge is a concordance between a bottom and a form. A Code of laws is a masterpiece of the writing with its own logic lines. It embodies the “world views”. They arise from a process of formation of Church Law in the course of its meetings with the cultures of Greece, Rome, Judaism, the modern West. Serving a Code which is supposed to be a continuation of the Good News, canonists make the effort to remain faithful to the dynamism of the Word. There is here a tension between orality of the origins and forms of writings, which can identifies with the critical connexion between a content and a form. How in these conditions identify a providential character to a codified expression of the ecclesial norm ? How to maintain fidelity to the dynamism of the founder event of the Christian faith ? Through an anthropological, exegetical and historical course, our thesis shows a potentially conflictual relationship and is considering new practices for the future of the canon law

Bellarmin and of the theologians of the Roman School, Vatican I which sought to legitimise the pontifical authority of the Bishop of Rome, has left us a legacy of the ecclesiological concept of the Church as a visible, hierarchical and juridical society. Thanks to Möller of the German school of Tübingen and because of the advocates of the “new theology” of the French school (Y. Congar, H. De Lubac, J. Daniélou), Vatican II realised a real hermeneutical turning point. The Church saw itself as a communion and people of God in the history of a people going to God. In the post-conciliar search for a possible synthesis between Vatican I and Vatican II and in the African context, is the Church-family of God, a key concept of the African Synod, really a society or a communion? In a historical and hermeneutical perspective, starting with Vatican II up to the African Synod of 1994, our aim is to take contemporary Catholic theology out of the prism of the obsession of the dialectical synthesis “communion/society”. What is at stake in this study is to encourage a dialectical going-beyond of the societal model and to go out of the binomial “communion/society” in view of creating a really relational Church built on the transcending trinomial ecclesiology of the communion model. The Church-family of God, an African Symbol of the sacred, is not a society but rather a “communion”, a “family”, and a Eucharistic “fraternity” of the baptised gathered around the Risen Christ under the action of the Holy Spirit. In a Eucharistic communion, Christ is there in his fullness as a spiritual food for this life and for eternal life

Yet she is destined to become a real subject, responsible for her destiny and of her child’s. It is a challenge to say "a great " yes " to human life". The adolescent motherhood in Togo is thus an interpellation toward the Church and the society. How the issue of adolescent motherhood is / was seen in the Nawda tradition ? What was the role of women to deal with this problem ? The Church, because of its vocation to protect and give life to every human person, is required to give an ethical response to the issue of the phenomenon of teen motherhood. It can : integrate the positive elements of the Nawda and African pedagogy in general ; strengthen the practice of the merciful justice, by using, when appropriate, the mechanism of the African palaver ; support teenage mothers by considering them as actresses responsible for their life and not as victims that we are witnessing ; encourage the African woman to train to be able to train in her turn ; provide care and support facilities like the Préau du Grand Arbre (which is a school of early childhood based on the sociocultural realities of each environment in order to teach children the sense of self-respect) and University Residence Providence (wishing to fight against those considering the child as an obstacle). The Togolese society should develop a social security policy to support teenage mothers in precarious situations. It is a matter of justice and equity based on respect of the human dignity to which everyone is entitled, albeit teenage mother

Pełny tekst źródłaWithin the Catholic Church, the criteria for belonging to a sui iuris Church have evolved throughout the history of Canon Law, particularly after the fairly recent promulgation of the Latin Code in 1983 and of the Code of the Canons of the Eastern Churches in 1990. Positive Law is proof of the care the legislator now takes to give priority to the objectivity of the criteria, whilst not preventing other elements to be taken into account, such as the desire of people who wish to change the rite, for example in the case of their marriage. Holy See law and Praxis are a witness to this difficult search for a balance between an objective determinism concerning adherence to the ritual and a subjective freedom to choose one’s rite or to modify it. However, society and Church structures have changed in recent years, changes which are characterized by the multiplication of ecclesiastical structures with a personal character in the Latin world, giving the Faithful the right to have their own personal wishes; and a growing number of Eastern Church members in Diaspora. This has led us to reconsider whether it is now at all pertinent to favour territorial criteria as opposed to personal ones in Eastern Church structures. Unless we wish to condemn them to a marginal position or even to disappear altogether, we must now reflect carefully on the institutional link between the Sui Iuris Churches and their Faithful. The weight of History, of the link with the other Eastern Orthodox Churches, and of the tradition of Canon Law must be simultaneously integrated and transcended if Eastern Catholic Churches are not to be trapped within a death-inducing logic

Having made this observation, this thesis argues that there is an Evangelical Protestant world view and a Roman Catholic world view that comprise two systemic realities which maintain two particular perceptions of reality that are rooted in two specific understandings of the saving work of Jesus-Christ. Our hypothesis is that these two multidimensional world views exist within a sociocultural context that offers meaning and answers to life’s ultimate questions to the French people. This thesis analyses the manner in which Evangelical Protestants and Roman Catholics present the message of Christ to the French since 1965, and the process of conversion that they expect from those individuals who decide to enter into their « faith universe ». The goal of this analysis is to throw light upon the systemic realities that are at the heart of their perceptions of reality. Both theological and practical in nature, this study examines the unbelief of our times, and the paths that lead men and women from unbelief to a living experience of God, with the aim of helping today’s Christians to more intelligibly live and communicate their faith

Today, Catholics have difficulty speaking with one voice about essential questions, while at the same time the ecumenical dialogue is late inrestoring perfect unity between Christians. Those two sets of problems are tackled here in the light of history. Leading the reader on a long chronological path from Antiquity to modern times, this study examines the doctrinal, canonical and pastoral solutions applied along the centuries in order to deal with the crises arising inside the Church ; then it answers three questions in connection with present circumstances : What should be done to avoid new severances within the Church? How to react in front of conflictual situations? What way should be followed to reconcile Christians? While it takes courage and boldness to promote unity, the latter cannot be contemplated outside the truth revealed by Christ and tradition

Pełny tekst źródłaThe Catholic Magisterium welcomed the theory of evolution and recognizes its value. The encyclical Humani Generis constitutes its key moment. However, the Magisterium went no further. It declined to sacrifice the cornerstone of traditional Christian anthropology on the altar of evolutionary theory. It insists on the direct creation of the human soul par God. A few theologians like G. Martelet, J.-M. Maldamé and J. Arnould, saw the need to articulate this theological discourse and the advances of evolutionary theory, where the conceptuality of emergence dominates ; an approach that is based on the idea that if God is unique then the truth of is revelation would by no means oppose to the truth showed by the world. The present study attempts to grasp the stance taken by the Magisterium, from Pius XII to John-Paul II. It explores the contribution of the three mentioned theologians to a deeper reflection on the theology of creation, on how their work has contributed to the understanding of the human identity and God’s action within creation. The scientific knowledge contributes to the improvement of our awareness of the Universe and mankind. Indeed, the understanding of God’s action in the world is at stake. It is not considered according to mechanical patterns where the Creator is described as a cosmic engineer. It is more represented in terms of support and arousing of the potential within the innermost being. The least we can say is that the Bible is not as interested about the past of mankind but rather about its origin. According to the Bible, answering the call of God and the one of mankind in terms of responsibility defines what being human is. That is what being in the image of God

Pełny tekst źródłaThis thesis was elaborated in the framework of a Franco-Tunisian cooperation between the University of Tunis and Lyon 2, under the joint direction of Dr. Samir AOUNALLAH and Dr. Paul MATTEI. The work which begun in April 2010 refers to the action of the Church in Africa in the city from the tolerance edict of Constantine until the Vandal invasion. The lack of a detailed and specified work regarding this subject is among the reasons that led us to begin this research. Thematically speaking, we have tried to determine how the definition of the term auctoritas and his agent name auctor (who gives the guarantee and support to its dependent) may express the bishop's action preoccupied by the interests of his faithfuls. As regards to the different manifestations of the civil judicial authority of the Church, we have tried to examine the differences in meaning between audientia episcopalis and iudicium ecclesiasticum. The audientia episcopalis takes care of the civil disputes between laity ; the iudicium ecclesiasticum was occupied by the private disputes and public crimes but evolving from the clerics. Moreover, the composition of the audientia episcopalis, as we mentioned, is original : it was reduced to a single judge : the bishop. In the social sphere, the Church's authority occurs mainly in helping poor. To better understand the action of the Church, we first tried to define poverty in Africa, taking into consideration the economic setting. Linguistically, we have noticed the capital employment and generic adjective pauper and its various derivatives in the meaning of poverty in the late period in Africa. Furthermore, the investigation of the terms mean economic poverty in St. Augustine texts enabled us to draw up the following list : debilis ; egens ; esuriens ; indigent ; inferior ; infirmus ; inops ; mediocris ; mendicus ; miser ; pauper ; plebs ; tenuis. Similarly, the massive use of pauper throughout the relevant period would tend to prove the Christian imprint on Roman law. Indeed, we count 20 occurrences of the word pauper in the Theodosian Code, 10 of which related to the Church. However, it is allowed to say that the later legal texts were inspired by those of the High Empire where the word pauper appears 17 times. The review of the work of St. Augustine has enabled us to portray the poor taking into account a number of different conditions : physical condition (the poor is one who is hungry, who is homeless, living in the nudity and whose clothes are very rudimentary) and physical disability. We should also be based on the legal parameter when we speak of slaves, colonos and foreigners. In the same meaninig, many features have contributed to explain the exact portrait of the poor. Poverty can concern prisoners, prostitutes, widows, orphans, minors and victims of usury. In addition, we have established a scale of poverty : 1. the entire poverty. 2. poverty due to constraints of oppression and accidental crises in urban areas as well as in rural areas. 3. relative poverty : it concerns people who have modest resources (mediocres) to live. African texts show, that in Africa, the poor were oppressed in both urban and rural areas,while Italian sources show the oppressed poor come mostly from rural areas in Italy. Moreover, always in Africa, we deduce that the needy who use the Church's assistance are concentrated in cities, while documents are mute, apparently, on the Church's assistance in rural areas. Therefore, we found a lack of charitable institutions of the Church in the rural areas where its action is concentrated mainly on the fight against injustice. We have also showed that the Church in Africa has established an assistance system based on a triple base : biblical, imperial and canon law. Then, we have found the constitution of the necessary bases from assistance to action, i.e. to enrich the church’s assets, establishment of the charitable institutions, admonition to help those in need

Pełny tekst źródłaThe thesis investigates the sources of the thinking of the famous abbot of Solesmes, analyzing his initial training and motivation when he restores Benedictine monasticism in France in the early nineteenth century. His liturgical work that made him famous is part of a whole: the young Prosper Guéranger belongs to that generation of clerics called "ultramontane" who resists the French State attempt to annex the Gallican Church. As an active member of the Mennaisian circle with his friends Montalembert and Lacordaire, Guéranger presents Benedictine monasticism as a means of spiritual renewal for the Church: the foundation of Solesmes abbey is a political project which should enable the regeneration of the Church and even of society as a whole. This current has branches in Europe and especially in England with the Oxford Movement: Newman and Guéranger draw on the same sources in the same years for similar challenges. Guéranger’s monastic project is similar in some respects to some utopias of romantic inspiration that bloom at the same time but it’s especially the Roman centralism and claimed eschatological dimension of monastic life, manifested in the liturgy, which makes Solesmes a means of spiritual resistance. Guéranger belongs to a general movement that explores the sources of Christian antiquity in order to allow the Church to regain its fundamental identity and the means of its mission

It’s a matter of fact that these two notions are considered as very different, if not opposed, in most people’s mind. However, this kind of antagonism can be explained by the basic confusion made about the liberal doctrine itself, actually opened to various understandings and that hence to an unrealistic scrutiny. In our opinion, liberalism can be understood as different levels of meanings. The main goal of our work is precisely to define a commune feature between these different opinions by adopting a specific “spirit” that fits with all of these interpretations. This thesis aims to get a better approch, in definig liberalism in generalas the result of a conception that came up in christian countries. In a first step, we have to relate the interlacing of theological, philosophic and economic ideas and their role in the constitution of Liberalism/ how they played a role in the constitution of Liberalism. In addition, it’s a question of putting the light on the dependence of Liberalism towards a concept, “être-personne-en-relation” that is fertilizing the philosophic and economic doctrine

Pełny tekst źródłaThe fight against poverty is a growing problem in particular because of its multidimensional nature and the fact that it integrates the consideration other aspects such as the fight against inequality. By following the path of the social teaching of the Church as expressed in the pontifical texts, from Leo XIII to John Paul II, we ask ourselves the question of how this social teaching can inform us and stimulate us today, considering its qualities and defects, its contributions and limitations. But poverty is also a theme of economics: while relying primarily on theology, this thesis is inspired also in the field. There is indeed no question for us to oppose economics and social teaching of the Church, but rather to make the voice of the Church as reflection system. We will show in the first place, that, at the crossroads of philosophy, economics and politics, ethics opens the way to human consciousness, freedom and serenity, but it can not be separated from the action, without which it can not bear fruit. Then it is for us to assess the ethical level of economic and social policies, particularly in Western Europe before detailing the contribution of the social teaching and its theological reflection in the fight against poverty

Pełny tekst źródłaIn 2009, the Evangeliar was published in Luxembourgish for the first time, containing the most-read Gospels of the Roman-Catholic liturgical tradition.In the introductory part, this thesis describes the historical, ecclesiastical, national, as well as linguistic background within which the faithful practised their religion from 1815 to the present day. Following on from there, it elucidates the influence of the Roman-Catholic church, as an institution, on contemporary biblical and liturgical translations, including the Evangeliar. This influence can originate from within the practice of Magisterium, scriptural tradition, or liturgical usage.In the second chapter, the translation of Mark 1, 1-45 is revised verse for verse in order to discuss the method as well as the criteria used in its development, with the aim of revealing traps of various kinds: linguistic, exegetical, theological, maybe even cultural, and furthermore to sound out the limitations of a translation into Luxembourgish of the Gospels. The conclusion, in which the various inquiry elements converge, also contains several elements conducive to further research on the translation of μετανοέω and of μετάνοια in general and in the Evangeliar in particular

Pełny tekst źródłaThis thesis demonstrates that the ecclesiology of the Church-God’s family can be built in relation to the issue of the social welfare for the priests, and linked to that, the issue of the social welfare for the sacred ministers can be thought about with regard to the theology of the Church as Family of God. The finding of weaknesses in the ecclesial practices of the social welfare for the priests which exists in Côte d’Ivoire and their difference with the Church magisterium texts makes me consider a principle: the organization of a social welfare for priests aims at making them free from worries in the future, which can harm (endanger) their ministry and their availability in the present time. In addition, when they are restored in the pastoral and theological context of the new evangelization, and if they are in connection, the ecclesiological issue of the Church-Family and that of the social welfare for the priests evoke the major stake of the Christians’ social commitment. If the reception of a theology of commitment contributes to an emergence of an authentic Christian commitment, the entrepreneurial ecclesiology suggests the pastoral entrepreneurship as another way to undertake in Church-Family to make a success of the bet of the social welfare for the priests in accordance with the wish of the Council Fathers taken back in the Code of Canon law of 1983

Pełny tekst źródłaAs it is suggested within the title, the present thesis focuses on the canonicity of the Conference of bishops. It aims to reflect the degree ofauthority of this new specifically Latin Institution. The bishops Conference has become a permanent body, while the Synod of bishops whichwas born in 1965, under Pope Paul VI did not receive this feature. Is the Conference of bishops an expression of episcopal collegiality? TheSecond Vatican Council (1962-1965) was admitted as a component of this collegiality. Vatican II was consecrated and institutionalized(Constitution Lumen Gentium and Decree Christus Dominus), but failed to raise any issue relating to its authority and jurisdiction. The 1969Synod of bishops, whose theme was announced, more precisely lived collegiality, also addressed the question of episcopal conferences. Atthe Synod Assembly, the debate has mainly concerned the means to implement in order to achieve a real and effective cooperation betweenRome and the bishops' conferences, and to ensure greater autonomy to these conferences, without impeding the freedom of the Pope, orundermining the authority of the diocesan bishop. There ensued a greater commitment to the principles which govern, on the one hand, therelationship between the Episcopal Conferences and the Apostolic See, and on the other hand, the links between the different episcopalConferences.But that debate has still not been completely invalidated, especially as it refers to the teaching authority of the Conference of bishops. Thejuridical qualification, in 1983, through the efforts of the latin codification seems to have been insufficient.The Synod of Bishops, in 1985, demonstrates this persistent discomfort. It has formally requested a reassessment of the institution of theConference of bishops: « Since the Episcopal Conferences are particularly useful, even necessary in the current pastoral work of theChurch, we want to study their theological " status " so that in particular the issue of their doctrinal authority would be more clearly anddeeply explained, taking into account what is written in the conciliar Decree Christus Dominus, item N° 38 and in the Code of Canon Law,can. 447 and 753 ». This situation derived to two institutional efforts: an advisory one (The Instrumentum laboris of 1987 of theCongregation for bishops), then another one, a decision (the Motu proprio Apostolos suos 1998). In this last theological standard and juridicalrequalification, Pope John Paul II reaffirms, more decisively, the specificity of the Conference of bishops. This extensive file may seem to beredundant and haunting. Researchers can notice that the problem of authority of the Conference of bishops remains difficult to determine. Infact, are the main parameters of the ecclesial structure not deeply questioned ?

Pełny tekst źródłaThis research attempts to define Creation Care so that it is recognized as a ministry in the Catholic Church in Quebec. I followed the method of pastoral praxeology inspired by the humanities so that this practice is both effective in the field and faithful to the Gospel of Jesus Christ. The object of analysis is the practice itself, specifically the parish activities on the theme of the environment. I closely observed some relevant activities, including a training session given to pastoral assistants. Then I interpreted these comments in light of the Christian Tradition by drawing on the Bible, several theological references and Church statements. After this reflection, I improved this practice by organizing a new training for the Church staff, the project of a practical guide and the outline of a course on Creation Care Ministry to be given in universities. Finally, the prospective allowed me to imagine in the long-term how the practice will ensure a sustainable church ... in every sense.
