In this paper, a new multiplier design is proposed which reduces the number of partial products by 25%. This multiplier has been used with different adders available in literature to implement multiplier accumulator (MAC) unit and parameters such as propagation delay, power consumed and area occupied have been compared in each case.From the results, Kogg tone adder has been chosen as it provided optimum values of delay and power dissipation. Later, the results obtained have been compared with that of other multipliers and it has been observed that the proposed multiplier has the lowest propagation delay when compared with Array and Booth multipliers.

Multiply-Accumulate (MAC) is one of the most commonly used operations in modern computing systems due to its use in matrix multiplication, signal processing, and in new applications such as machine learning and deep neural networks. Ternary number system offers higher information processing within the same number of digits when compared to binary systems. In this paper, a MAC is proposed using a CNTFET-based ternary logic number. Specifically, we build a 5-trit multiplier and 10-trit adder as building blocks of two ternary MAC unit designs. The first is a basic MAC which has two methods to implement, serial and pipeline. The second is an improved MAC design that optimizes the number of transistors, offers higher performance and lower power consumption. The designed MAC unit can operate up to 300MHz. Finally, a comparative study in terms of power, delay, and area variations is conducted under different supply voltages and temperature levels.

A new strategy for quick multiplication of two numbers is introduced. Inputs are separated into segments, and one segment is replaced by two with zeros interlocking in each alternative segments. With zero carries between segments the product are computed, within the time needed to multiply the short partitions and add the partial sums. The multiplication of two numbers generated and adds that product to an accumulator by multiply accumulate operation (MAC unit). This operation is performed within the MAC unit. MAC is an advanced co-processor that plays a vital role in FFT, DFT, etc. The MAC unit is utilized for additional execution and its input is given to the proposed multiplier that provides a trivial speed increment over the array multiplier designs. This paper is utilized to design speed enhanced multiply Accumulate Unit by an Interlaced Partition Multiplier. This new multiplier design simulation is optimized with existing method.

The leukocyte integrin Mac-1 (CD11b/CD18) and the urokinase receptor (uPAR, CD87) mediate complementary functions in myelomonocytic cells. Both receptors promote degradation of fibrin(ogen) and also confer adhesive properties on cells because Mac-1 and uPAR bind fibrin and vitronectin, respectively. Staining of lung biopsy specimens from patients with acute lung injury indicated that fibrin and vitronectin colocalize at exudative sites in which macrophages bearing these receptors accumulate. Because of the parallel roles and physical proximity of Mac-1 and uPAR, the capacity of these receptors to functionally interact was explored. Induction of Mac-1 and uPAR expression on monocytic cell lines by transforming growth factor-beta 1 and 1.25-(OH)2 vitamin D3 conferred urokinase and uPAR-dependent adhesion to vitronectin, which was further promoted by engagement of Mac-1. Vitronectin attachment promoted subsequent Mac-1-mediated fibrinogen degradation threefold to fourfold. In contrast, enhancement of uPAR occupancy by exogenous urokinase or receptor binding fragments thereof inhibited Mac-1 function. Addition of urokinase progressively inhibited Mac-1-mediated fibrinogen binding and degradation (maximal inhibition, 91% +/- 14% and 72% +/- 15%, respectively). Saturation of uPAR with urokinase also inhibited binding of the procoagulant Mac-1 ligand, Factor X. These inhibitory effects of uPAR were reproduced in fresh monocytes, cultured monocytic cells, and in Chinese hamster ovary (CHO) cells transfected with both human Mac-1 and human uPAR. These data show that the procoagulant and fibrinolytic potential of monocytic cells is co-ordinately regulated by ligand binding to both Mac-1 and uPAR and identify uPAR as a regulator of integrin function. Vitronectin-enhanced fibrin(ogen) turnover by Mac-1 may operate as a salvage pathway in the setting of urokinase and plasmin inhibitors to promote clearance of the provisional matrix and subsequent healing.

Proper closed loop has been an ever hot issue in the automotive industry. The industrial equipments governed by PID controllers have very simple control architecture and efficiency but still they find a trouble dueto large power consumption and slow mathematical computation. Many researchers have worked out and are trying to design a low power, less delay PID. This paper reviews three MAC architectures with array, booth and wallace tree multipliers incorporated in PID architecture. The simulations are done and the area, power, delay results are synthesized using Xilinx ISE. Comparisons are made between these three architectures in terms of power delay product and area delay product.

This doctoral dissertation deals with the Supreme Court’s edict of 1954 brown v. Board of education of Topeka, requiring school desegregation. If several school districts rapidly complied with that decision, the white citizens of prince Edward County, Virginia were not so obliging. For a decade they challenged the federal judiciary and refused to countenance even token desegregation. When the policy of massive resistance established by the authorities was declared unconstitutional, they refused to finance public schools in 1959 and established a private academy for white students. For four years there was not formal education for blacks in the county, and when the public schools were reopened in 1964, their enrollment was almost black. Segregation was maintained by developing a new version of the dual school system even though this arrangement was widely criticized. Today the school district is still predominantly black

In the first part of the thesis I produce and implement an algorithm for obtaining generators of the unit group of the integral group ring ZG of finite abelian group G. We use our implementation in MAGMA of this algorithm to compute the unit group of ZG for G of order up to 110. In the second part of the thesis I show how to construct multiplication tables of the semisimple real Lie algebras. Next I give an algorithm, based on the work of Sugiura, to find all Cartan subalgebra of such a Lie algebra. Finally I show algorithms for finding semisimple subalgebras of a given semisimple real Lie algebra.

The subject of this thesis is a discourse of the altitudinal component of topographic maps of the Member States of the European Union. The work is focused on the necessity of the system of altitude measurement and the reasons and methods of its representation in maps, explains the basic concepts, is engaged in the theory of the altitudes in general and presents the altitude systems. It discusses the historical and current methods of representation of the altitudes in maps in more detail and from a broader point of view. It is focused on the State map series of the Czech Republic and discusses the altitudinal systems of Europe, the countries of the European Union and the representation of the altitudes on topographic maps of these countries. Finally, it evaluates the comprehensibility and the clear arrangement of the methods used for the representation of altitudes in the available maps.

Lo Unit Commitment Problem (UCP) è un problema di programmazione matematica dove un insieme di impianti termoelettrici deve essere programmato per soddisfare la domanda di energia e altri vincoli di sistema. Il modello è impiegato da decenni per supportare la pianificazione operazionale di breve termine dei sistemi elettrici. In questo lavoro affrontiamo il problema di risolvere UCP lineari di larga-scala per realizzare simulazioni accurate di sistemi elettrici, con i requisiti aggiuntivi di impiegare capacità di calcolo convenzionali, ad esempio i personal computers, ed un tempo di soluzione di poche ore. Il problema, sotto le medesime condizioni, è affrontato abitualmente dal nostro partner industriale RSE S.p.A. (Ricerche Sistema Energetico), uno dei principali centri ricerche industriali su sistemi energetici in Italia. L’ottimizzazione diretta di queste formulazioni con solutori generici è impraticabile. Nonostante sia possibile calcolare buone soluzioni euristiche, ovvero con un gap di ottimalità sotto il 10%, in tempi ragionevoli per UCP di larga scala, si richiedono soluzioni più accurate, per esempio con gap sotto l’1%, per migliorare l’affidabilità delle simulazioni ed aiutare gli esperti di dominio, che potrebbero non essere familiari con i dettagli dei metodi di programmazione matematica, a supportare meglio le loro analisi. Tra le idee che abbiamo esplorato i seguenti metodi risultano i più promettenti: una mateuristica per calcolare efficientemente buone soluzioni e due metodi esatti di bounding: column generation e Benders decomposition. Questi metodi decompongono il problema disaccoppiando il commitment degli impianti termoelettrici, rappresentati da variabili discrete, e il loro livello di produzione, rappresentato da variabili continue. I nostri esperimenti dimostrano che il modello possiede proprietà intrinseche come degenerazione e forma della funzione obbiettivo piatta che ostacolano o impediscono la convergenza in risolutori allo stato dell’arte. Tuttavia, i metodi che abbiamo sviluppato, sfruttando efficacemente le proprietà strutturali del modello, permettono di raggiungere soluzioni quasi ottime in poche iterazioni per la maggior parte delle istanze.
The Unit Commitment Problem (UCP) is a mathematical programming problem where a set of power plants needs to be scheduled to satisfy energy demand and other system-wide constraints. It has been employed for decades to support short-term operational planning of power plants. In this work we tackle the problem of solving large-scale linear UCPs to perform accurate medium-term power systems simulations, with the additional requirements of employing conventional computing power, such as personal computers, and a solution time of a few hours. The problem, under such conditions, is routinely faced by our industry partner, the Energy Systems Development department at RSE S.p.A. (Ricerche Sistema Energetico), a major industrial research centre on power systems in Italy. The direct optimization of these formulations via general-purpose solvers is impractical. While good heuristic solutions, that is with an optimality gap below 10%, can be found for large-scale UCPs in affordable time, more accurate solutions, for example with a gap below 1%, are sought to improve the reliability of the simulations and help domain experts, who may not be familiar with the details of mathematical programming methods, to better support their analysis. Among the ideas we explored, the following methods are the most promising: a matheuristic to efficiently compute good solutions and two exact bounding methods: column generation and Benders decomposition. These methods decompose the problem by decoupling the commitment of thermal plants, represented by discrete variables, and their level of production, represented by continuous variables. Our experiments proved that the model posses inherent properties as degeneracy and objective flatness which hinder or prevent convergence in state-of-the-art solvers. On the other hand, the methods we devised, by effectively exploiting structural properties of the model, allow to reach quasi-optimal solutions within a few iterations on most instances.

La synthèse de matériaux zéolithiques est régie par de nombreux paramètres, en particulier la nature de l'hétéroélément associé au silicium et celle de l'agent organique structurant. Ainsi, l'introduction de germanium dans les milieux réactionnels ainsi que l'utilisation de structurants dérivés d'imidazole, les cations 1-éthyl-3-méthylimidazolium et 1-butyl-3-méthylimidazolium, ont permis la découverte de deux nouveaux solides microporeux nommés respectivement IM-16 et IM-20 et présentant des topologies de charpente inédites (respectivement UOS et UWY). De plus, un troisième germanosilicate poreux nommé IM-17 a été obtenu en présence du cation décaméthonium. Chacun de ces trois matériaux possède un système tridimensionnel de canaux avec des ouvertures de 8 et 10 atomes T (IM-16) ou de 10 et 12 atomes T (IM-17 et IM-20), ainsi que des unités de construction composites d4r au sein de leur charpente. Enfin, une partie importante du travail a été consacrée à l'élaboration de molécules structurantes originales (dérivés du décahydro-dicyclopenta[b,d]pyrrole) puis de leur emploi en synthèse hydrothermale. Ces essais ont permis d'obtenir divers matériaux déjà connus, parmi lesquels les zéolithes IM-12 (UTL), ITQ-7 (ISV), ITQ-17 (BEC) et ITQ-21.

La notion de Bien et de Mal est un concept utilisé aux Etats-Unis depuis l’indépendance du pays. Cependant, l’utilisation de cette notion a pris une nouvelle dimension avec le développement et la transformation du conservatisme dans la première moitié du XIXème siècle, et qui s’est accentuée dans les dernières décennies de ce vingtième siècle. La révolution culturelle en Amérique après la seconde guerre mondiale et la lutte contre le l’empire soviétique considéré comme un « mal » par les dirigeants américains en particulier Reagan Ronald ont participé à la droitisation de l’opinion publique américaine et au triomphe du conservatisme. Cette notion sujette à différentes interprétations est aujourd’hui source de violents affrontements au niveau des Etats avec des conséquences gigantesques sur les relations internationales. Les mouvements intégristes islamistes et évangéliques ne cessent d’utiliser cette notion pour imposer leur vision politico-religieuse du monde. D’où le développement du terrorisme. Pour les théoriciens néo-conservateurs, la meilleure réponse à la question du terrorisme suite aux attentats du 11 septembre 2001 est que les Etats-Unis assument leur rôle impérial en utilisant le plus souvent le hard power. Les attaques du 11 septembre étaient selon eux, la conséquence du renoncement partiel à cet esprit hégémonique. Du conservateur Ronald Reagan au religieux George W. Bush, les néo-conservateurs, ces anciens libéraux, venus de la gauche, reconvertis au conservatisme pur et dur, obsédés par la notion de puissance ont travaillé dans l’ombre pour élaborer toute une théorie et philosophie sur le rôle de l’Amérique dans les relations internationales, sur ses valeurs traditionnelles et sur son identité nationale. En effet, depuis la défaite au Vietnam, Washington avait subi une série de revers militaires, mais, également politiques dont l’Union Soviétique avait bénéficiée. A cela s’ajoute les problèmes économiques, culturels, et sociaux. Ces adeptes de Léo Strauss, qui ont chanté les louanges de Roosevelt, voire de Truman, et qui ont été marqués par ces événements, sont devenus les apôtres de l’impérialisme et d’un nouveau messianisme dans le but de défendre les intérêts et le leadership américain. Pendant longtemps, la puissance américaine a été utilisée officiellement au service des peuples opprimés dans le cadre de l’ONU, et à titre défensif, mais avec l’administration Bush Junior on a assisté à une croisade contre l’ « axe du mal » avec la mise en œuvre de la guerre préventive, considérée par les néo-conservateurs comme une théorie reposant sur des arguments justes. L’Opération Liberté en Irak a été menée, non pas en fonction des principes philosophiques qui dictent la doctrine de la guerre juste, mais au nom de la raison du plus fort. Où l’objectif était vraisemblablement de mettre en pratique la vision idéaliste, manichéenne des néo-conservateurs et de contrôler des positions stratégiques. Son application marque un tournant dans les relations internationales. Le retour du Parti Démocrate au pouvoir avec Barack Obama, lequel symbolise l’ouverture et l’espoir aux Etats-Unis, et dans le monde n’occulte guère, au-delà de son pragmatisme, l’idée que dans la perception américaine, le Mal est partout et guette le territoire américain. D’où la nécessité de recourir à la force si nécessaire pour protéger les frontières et les intérêts vitaux américains
The concept of Good and Evil is a concept used in the United States since the country's independence. However, the use of this concept has taken a new dimension with the development and transformation of conservatism in the first half of the nineteenth century, which accelerated in the last decades of the twentieth century. The Cultural Revolution in America after the Second World War and the fight against the Soviet empire considered as an "evil" by U. S. Officials in particular Ronald Reagan attended the rightward of the American public opinion and the triumph of conservatism. This concept subject to different interpretations is now a source of violent clashes at the state level with huge consequences on international relations. The Islamist fundamentalist and evangelical movements continue to use this concept to impose their political-religious world. Hence the development of terrorism. For theorists neoconservatives, the best answer to the question of terrorism following the attacks of September 11, 2001 is that the U. S. Face their imperial role by using the most hard power. The attacks of September 11 were in their view, the result of partial renunciation hegemonic spirit. From the conservative Ronald Reagan to the religious George W. This report synthesizes discussions from a scoping meeting for Redwood National and State Parks (referred to as the “parks” throughout this report) held in 2004 and a follow-up conference call in 2019. Two GRI–compiled GIS data sets of the geology and geohazards of the parks are the principal deliverables of the GRI. The GRI GIS data are available on the GRI publications website http://go.nps.gov/gripubs and through the NPS Integrated Resource Management Applications (IRMA) portal https://irma.nps.gov/App/Portal/Home. Enter “GRI” as the search text and select a park from the unit list. Writing of this report was based on those data and the interpretations of the source map authors (see “GRI Products” and “Acknowledgements”). A geologic map poster illustrates the geology GRI GIS data set and serves as a primary figure for this GRI report. No poster was prepared for the geohazards GRI GIS data set. Additionally, figure 7 of this report illustrates the locations of the major geologic features in the parks. Unlike the poster, which is divided into a northern and southern portion to show detail while accommodating the parks’ length, figure 7 is a single-page, simplified map. The features labeled on figure 7 are discussed in the “Geologic History, Features, and Processes” chapter. To provide a context of geologic time, this report includes a geologic time scale (see "Geologic History, Features, and Processes"). The parks’ geologic story encompasses 200 million years, starting in the Jurassic Period. Following geologic practice, the time scale is set up like a stratigraphic column, with the oldest units at the bottom and the youngest units at the top. Organized in this manner, the geologic time scale table shows the relative ages of the rock units that underlie the parks and the unconsolidated deposits that lie at the surface. Reading the “Geologic Event” column in the table, from bottom to top, will provide a chronologic order of the parks’ geologic history. The time scale includes only the map units within the parks that also appear on the geologic map poster; that is, map units of the geohazards data are not included. Geology is a complex science with many specialized terms. This report provides definitions of geologic terms at first mention, typically in parentheses following the term. Geologic units in the GRI GIS data are referenced in this report using map unit symbols; for example, map unit KJfrc stands for the Cretaceous (K) and Jurassic (J) Franciscan Complex (f), Redwood Creek schist (rc), which underlies a portion of the Redwood Creek watershed (see “GRI Products”).

The map area lies about 40 km northwest of Baffinland's iron mine. Dykes of unit mAnA3 within unit mAnA2 suggest that unit mAnA2 predates unit mAnA3. Unit nAMqf, basal Mary River Group unit, includes regolith material from units mAnA2 and mAnA3. Unit mAnAm may include some dykes of unit nAMb. The Mary River Group was deposited in a volcanic-arc environment, yielding zircon U-Pb ages mostly in the range of 2.88 to 2.72 Ga. Iron-formation (unit nAMi) is approximately 276 m thick locally, with oxide facies (unit nAMio) being most abundant. The quartzite triangle west of 'Iron lake' (unofficial name) may be a small horst. The main east-west-trending synclinal fold, including the area around 'Iron lake' and the no. 4 ore deposit, is upright, nearly isoclinal, and plunges mostly easterly at both ends with small scale anticlines and synclines in the middle. Magnetite constitutes about 75% of high-grade iron deposits in the north limb, whereas hematite predominates in south-limb deposits. K-Ar and Rb-Sr ages indicate middle Paleoproterozoic overprinting. Central Borden Fault Zone was active at ca. 1.27 Ga and during or after Ordovician time. Note: please be aware that the information contained in CGM 408 is based on legacy data from the 1960-1990s and that it has been superseded by regional-scale information contained in CGM 403.

A prominent magnetic low along an eastern portion of the Paleoproterozoic Taltson magmatic zone (TMZ) correlates mainly with the youngest granitoid in the zone, the peraluminous ca. 1936 Ma Konth granite. Flanking belts of higher magnetic intensity coincide mainly with slightly older Taltson plutonic rocks (e.g. ca. 1986 Ma Deskenatlata granodiorite, ca. 1955 Ma Slave granite) to the west and Neoarchean and/or Paleoproterozic gneisses of the Rae Craton to the east. A prominent gravity low along a portion of the northeastern margin of the TMZ correlates mainly with the Konth granite. Modelling of east-west magnetic and gravity profiles crossing the TMZ is used to investigate the geometrical and geological significance of these signatures. Modelling of the gravity low revealed a basin-like shape, with a maximum thickness of 14.9 km, for a composite unit of Konth-Slave magmatic suites. Magnetic modelling, the preferred technique north and south of the gravity minimum, yielded basin-like shapes for an essentially nonmagnetic Konth-Slave unit, but with much smaller maximum thicknesses of 5.0 and 6.5 km, respectively. Farther south in the TMZ, strongly magnetic units within mapped Konth and Slave granites preclude definition of a nonmagnetic Konth-Slave unit. Aside from the Slave unit, most other modelled magnetic units are generally steep and narrow and have fairly large magnetic susceptibilities. They are modelled to a depth of 6.2 km below sea level and have a steeply dipping, near-surface structural fabric extending to significant depth. Granitoids in the TMZ have previously been designated as ilmenite series or magnetite series, but modelled susceptibilities indicate that revisions to some designations may be required.

High Flow samplers remain the most useful and accurate tool for the direct measurement of fugitive and vented emission sources in the field. Operators may be obligated to measure certain emissions with the high-flow sampler for regulatory, reporting, or internal environmental and/or maintenance programs. The most commonly used commercial unit of the last 20+ years has been the Bacharach Hi-Flow� Sampler, though it was recently discontinued by the manufacturer. The supply of new units and spare parts is exhausted, leaving an unmet need for direct emission measurement capabilities. Though several research groups have constructed their own high-flow samplers as prototypes or in low volumes, the need for a commercial replacement of the Bacharach unit was recognized by several manufacturers who are bringing new and updated high-flow units to the market. This report will outline the capabilities and qualities of these currently available commercial units to provide interested users with the background needed to inform their purchasing decision.

Through the inventory, monitoring, and study of park resources, we gain a greater understanding of the scope, significance, distribution, and management issues associated with these resources and their use. This baseline of natural resource information is available to inform park managers, scientists, stakeholders, and the public about the conditions of these resources and the factors or activities which may threaten or influence their stability. There are several different categories of geologic or stratigraphic units (supergroup, group, formation, member, bed) which represent a hierarchical system of classification. The mapping of stratigraphic units involves the evaluation of lithologies, bedding properties, thickness, geographic distribution, and other factors. If a new mappable geologic unit is identified, it may be described and named through a rigorously defined process that is standardized and codified by the professional geologic community (North American Commission on Stratigraphic Nomenclature 2005). In most instances when a new geologic unit such as a formation is described and named in the scientific literature, a specific and well-exposed section of the unit is designated as the type section or type locality (see Definitions). The type section is an important reference section for a named geologic unit which presents a relatively complete and representative profile for this unit. The type or reference section is important both historically and scientifically, and should be recorded such that other researchers may evaluate it in the future. Therefore, this inventory of geologic type sections in NPS areas is an important effort in documenting these locations in order that NPS staff recognize and protect these areas for future studies. The documentation of all geologic type sections throughout the 423 units of the NPS is an ambitious undertaking. The strategy for this project is to select a subset of parks to begin research for the occurrence of geologic type sections within particular parks. The focus adopted for completing the baseline inventories throughout the NPS was centered on the 32 inventory and monitoring networks (I&M) established during the late 1990s. The I&M networks are clusters of parks within a defined geographic area based on the ecoregions of North America (Fenneman 1946; Bailey 1976; Omernik 1987). These networks share similar physical resources (geology, hydrology, climate), biological resources (flora, fauna), and ecological characteristics. Specialists familiar with the resources and ecological parameters of the network, and associated parks, work with park staff to support network level activities (inventory, monitoring, research, data management). Adopting a network-based approach to inventories worked well when the NPS undertook paleontological resource inventories for the 32 I&M networks. The network approach is also being applied to the inventory for the geologic type sections in the NPS. The planning team from the NPS Geologic Resources Division who proposed and designed this inventory selected the Greater Yellowstone Inventory and Monitoring Network (GRYN) as the pilot network for initiating this project. Through the research undertaken to identify the geologic type sections within the parks of the GRYN, methodologies for data mining and reporting on these resources was established. Methodologies and reporting adopted for the GRYN have been used in the development of this type section inventory for the Chihuahuan Desert Inventory & Monitoring Network. Methodologies and reporting adopted for the GRYN have been used in the development of this report for the Mojave Desert Inventory & Monitoring Network (MOJN). The goal of this project is to consolidate information pertaining to geologic type sections that occur within NPS-administered areas, in order that this information is available throughout the NPS to inform park managers and to promote the preservation and protection of these important geologic landmarks and geologic heritage resources. Mappable geologic units may be described and named through a rigorously defined process that is standardized and codified by the professional geologic community (North American Commission on Stratigraphic Nomenclature 2021). In most instances, when a new geologic unit (such as a formation) is described and named in the scientific literature, a specific and well-exposed section or exposure area of the unit is designated as the stratotype (see “Definitions” below). The type section is an important reference exposure for a named geologic unit that presents a relatively complete and representative example for this unit. Geologic stratotypes are important both historically and scientifically, and should be available for other researchers to evaluate in the future. The inventory of all geologic stratotypes throughout the 423 units of the NPS is an important effort in documenting these locations in order that NPS staff recognize and protect these areas for future studies.
