The structure of M 2(OH)2(bpdc) (bpdc = biphenyl dicarboxylate, C14H8O4) is distinct from that of the isoreticular compounds M 2(OH)2(bdc) (bdc = benzene dicarboxylate, C8H4O4) (M = Mn, Fe), in the sense that no disorder of the bpdc molecules from one layer to the other needs to be considered. The global symmetry is lower in the bpdc compounds (P 1) than in the bdc compounds (C2/m). Both Mn2(OH)2(bpdc) and Fe2(OH)2(bpdc) order magnetically at 36.8 and 46.5 K, respectively, and can be considered as uncompensated antiferromagnets, whereas Mn2(OH)2(bdc) (Néel temperature T N = 38.5 K) and Fe2(OH)2(bdc) (T N = 66 K) are compensated antiferromagnets.

To study the law of gas transportation in mining areas, Fluent numerical simulation software was applied to examine the influence of different pseudo-slope lengths (PSL) on gas concentration in a U-ventilated working area under no-extraction conditions. Based on this, numerical simulation experiments were conducted on the buried pipe extraction arrangement parameters. The simulation found that when there was no extraction, the PSL had an impact on the airflow in the extraction area, which caused the airflow in the extraction area to be disordered, causing gas to accumulate locally at the working area. When the buried pipe depths (BPDs) and PSLs of the working area worked together, the gas concentration of the working area was lower when the inlet air influence zone and the extraction influence zone were through; otherwise, gas concentration accumulation occurred at the working area. The research results showed that when the PSL was at 25 m and BPD was at 20 m, the gas concentration at the working area was not abnormal, and the gas concentration in the upper corner was lower. By adjusting the PSL and BPD of the test working area, the maximum gas concentration in the upper corner was reduced to 0.46% and the maximum gas concentration in the return air outlet was reduced to 0.41%. The experimental and practical results provide important reference values for coal and gas co-mining.

The mixing of one mole of 2,2'-bipyridine-3,3'-dicarboxylic acid (bpdc) with two mole of potassium hydroxide (KOH) in methanol were refluxed for (half hour), followed by addition of one mole methanol solution of MCl2.nH2O (where M=Co, Ni or Cu). The mixture was refluxed for (2 hours) to give colored complexes of the metal ions of [M(bpdc)(H2O)4]. The [M(bpdc)(H2O)4] were reacted with one mole of 2-Mercapto-5-phenyl-1,3,4-oxadiazole (phozSH) producing the colored mixed ligand complexes with general formula [M(bpdc)(phozSH)(H2O)3] in which the metal ions coordinated to the ligand through O-atoms of carboxyl group in (bpdc) and N-atom of (phozSH) ligand. The ligands and complexes are well identified by using Furrier transform infrared spectroscopy, 1H-NMR, 13C-NMR, Electronic spectroscopy, CHNS analysis, Melting point, conductivity measurement. The Antioxidant activity were screened for all the complexes by the use of 2, 2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) method.

This study examines psychopathology and clinical characteristics of patients with borderline personality disorder (BPD) and comorbid narcissistic personality disorder (NPD) from two international randomized controlled trials. From a combined sample of 188 patients with BPD, 25 also fulfilled criteria for a comorbid diagnosis of NPD according to DSM-IV. The BPD patients with comorbid NPD, compared to the BPD patients without comorbid NPD, showed significantly more BPD criteria (M = 7.44 vs. M = 6.55, p < .001), fulfilled more criteria of comorbid histrionic (M = 3.84 vs. M = 1.98, p < .001), paranoid (M = 3.12 vs. M = 2.27, p = .014), and schizotypal (M = 1.64 vs. M = 1.02, p = .018) personality disorders, and were more likely to meet criteria for full histrionic PD diagnosis (44.0% vs. 14.2%, p < .001). The BPD-NPD group also reported significantly fewer psychiatric hospitalizations in the previous year (M = 0.40 vs. M = 0.82, p = .019) and fewer axis I disorders (M = 2.68 vs. M = 3.75, p = .033). No differences could be found in general functioning, self-harming behavior, and suicide attempts.

A multiplex amplification and detection platform for the diagnosis of Mycobacterium bovis and Brucella abortusinfection simultaneously in bovine milk and nasal secretions was developed. This system (designated the bovine pathogen detection assay [BPDA]-PCR) consists of duplex amplification of species-specific targets (a region of the BCSP31K gene of B. abortus and a repeat-sequence region in the hsp65 gene of M. bovis, respectively). This is followed by a solid-phase probe capture hybridization of amplicons for detection. On the basis of spiking experiments with normal milk, the analytical sensitivity of the assay was 800 CFU equivalents/ml of milk for B. abortus and as low as 4 CFU equivalents per ml of milk for M. bovis. BPDA-PCR was validated with 45 liver samples from lemmings experimentally infected with B. abortus. The assay sensitivity, based on culture status as a “gold standard,” was 93.9%. In this experiment, BPDA-PCR also identified five culture-negative liver samples as positive (41.7%). Field studies for the evaluation of BPDA-PCR were performed with samples from dairy animals from geographically distinct regions (India, Mexico, and Argentina). A high prevalence of shedding of B. abortus(samples from India) and M. bovis (samples from Mexico) was identified by BPDA-PCR. In samples from India, B. abortusshedding was identified in 86% of milk ring test-positive animals (n = 15) and 80% of milk ring test-negative cows (n = 5). In samples from Mexico, M. bovis was identified by PCR in 32.6% of pools (n = 46) of milk that each contained milk from 10 animals and in 56.2% of nasal swabs (n = 121) from cattle from tuberculin test-positive herds. In contrast, the Argentine cattle (n = 70) had a modest prevalence of M. bovis shedding in nasal swabs (2.9%) and milk (1.4%) and ofB. abortus in milk (11.4%). On the basis of these analyses, we identify BPDA-PCR as an optimal tool for both screening of herds and testing of individual animals in a disease eradication program. A combination of the duplex assay, screening of milk samples in pools, and the proposed algorithm provides a highly sensitive, cost-effective, and economically viable alternative to serological testing.

Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) is on focus due to its intense and long-lasting symptoms. BPD is considered a psychological disorder of young adults, as its major symptoms start revealing at the beginning of young adulthood in the early 20s. The aim of this study was to assess BPD and its symptoms in the young population of students achieving higher education in private universities of Lahore, Pakistan. A stratified sample of 700 university going students was collected from three high ranked private universities of Lahore. The sample was collected and assessed through Borderline Personality Inventory (BPI-cut 20). The results obtained through the descriptive statistics revealed the high percentage of BPD in young adults (62%). Further, a high percentage of BPD was observed in a group of students ages 18- 21 years (63%). The four factors of BPD: Primitive Defense Mechanism, Identity Diffusion, Fear of Closeness, Self-Mutilation, and Impulsivity were equally found among the male and female samples. The independent sample t-test revealed the significant results obtained from the factor self-mutilation (Male: M=.21, SD=.405 and Female: M= .14, SD= .346, t=2.350, p=0.019) and impulsivity (Male; M=.35, SD=.479 and Female: M= .403, SD= .021, t= 4.482, p= 0.000). The results of this study concluded BPD and its factors were frequently being found in young adults studying in universities. Further, no significant gender differences were observed other than in two factors self-mutilation and impulsivity. It is recommended that there is an essential need to promote the health and wellbeing of the young population of students especially studying in universities because the evidence suggests that they are at risk. They further need assessment and intervention.

Impaired working memory and normal sustained attention in borderline personality disorder.Objective: Although reports in the literature describe deficits in working memory in borderline personality disorder (BPD), the evidence is limited and inconsistent. The aim of this study was to evaluate further this cognitive dimension and its clinical correlates in BPD.Method: We compared the performance of 15 BPD patients to 1:1 matched healthy controls on verbal working memory as determined by the sequential letter N-back test and sustained attention as measured using the continuous performance test (CPT).Results: BPD patients performed significantly worse on the N-back test compared to healthy controls (p < 0.05), but not on the CPT. The N-back deficit was more pronounced and significant in the 3-back condition and inversely correlated with impulsivity.Conclusions: These results suggest the presence of working memory deficits in BPD that may be linked to greater impulsivity and sustained by impairment in the dorsolateral prefrontal cortex.

Polyimide/polyimide molecular composite (MC) films were prepared by blending precursor solutions of a rigid polyimide and a reactive oligoimide or a reactive polyimide that contains acetylene units in the backbone in a 7:3 ratio, followed by casting, drying and thermal imidization at 300 °C. 3, 3′, 4, 4′-Biphenyltetracarboxylic dianhydride (BPDA), pyromellitic dianhydride (PMDA), p-phenylenediamine (PDA), oxydianiline (ODA) and 3, 3′-diaminodiphenylacetylene ( m-intA) were used as acid dianhydride and diamine monomers for the preparation of polyimide. The rigid components were prepared from PMDA or BPDA and PDA. The matrix components were prepared from PMDA or BPDA and ODA or m-intA. The polyimide/polyimide MCs have exotherm on DSC due to the reaction of internal acetylene units, which indicates that the MC films are laminate processable. Tensile measurements revealed that the tensile modulus of the MCs utilizing reactive oligoimides is 20–30% higher than that of the MCs utilizing reactive polyimides. Viscoelastic analyses of the MC films showed that the crosslinking of the acetylene units gave polyimides that have a very high glass transition temperature.

A new Ni metal organic framework based on 2,2′-Biphenyldicarboxylic, 4,4′- bipyridine as linker is prepared by hydrothermal reaction and directly used as an electrode material for supercapacitor and the detection of sarcosine. [Ni3(BIPY)3(BPDA)2(HCOO)2(H2O)2]n (Ni-1; BIPY = 4,4′-bipyridine; BPDA = 2,2′-Biphenyldicarboxylate) displays the specific capacitance of the Ni-1 are 667 F/gat 1 A/g and retention is 82% of initial capacitance at 1 A/g. The excellent electrochemical property is ascribed to the intrinsic nature of Ni-1. Furthermore, the sarcosine sensing performance of the Ni-1 electrode is evaluated in 0.1 M of NaOH solution and the electrode showed a wider range of linear response 1 × 10−4 M to 1 × 10−3 M. Thus, the results show that the Ni-1 is a potential candidate for not only sensing of sarcosine but also supercapacitor application.

The SCZ (schizophrenia)-associated GABAA receptor (γ-aminobutyric acid type A receptor) β2 subunit gene GABRB2 was recently associated with BPD (bipolar disorder). Although weaker than its association with SCZ, significant association of GABRB2 with BPD was found in both German and Chinese, especially for the haplotypes rs1816071–rs187269 and rs1816072–rs187269 for which the M–M variants showed higher frequency in disease than the control. Significant genotype-dependent reduction in GABRB2 expression was shown for BPD, but to a lesser extent than that for SCZ. Temporal effects on GABRB2 expression were observed. Moreover, for the homozygous major genotypes of rs1816071, rs1816072 and rs187269, expression increased with time in CON but decreased in SCZ and BPD. The genotypes of these three SNPs (single nucleotide polymorphisms) were further correlated with antipsychotics dosage in SCZ cohorts. The findings highlight the importance of GABRB2 in neuropsychiatric disease aetiology, with respect to haplotype association, as well as reduction of and temporal effects on gene expression in both SCZ and BPD, but to a lesser extent in the latter, supporting the suggestion that functional psychosis can be conceptualized as a continuous spectrum of clinical phenotypes rather than as distinct categories.

A series of β,β-dihydroxychlorins derived from meso-tetraphenylporphyrins (TPPs) have been synthesized. Their in vitro cytotoxicity has been measured and compared to BPDMA (verteporfin). Under the assay conditions BPDMA had an LD 50 (lethal dose to kill 50% of cells) value of 0.007 μM (5 ng/mL). The LD 50 values for the TPP derivatives varied from 1.7 × 10-2 to 9.9 μM depending upon the substituents and their position on the phenyl groups. One example of the dihydroxychlorin prepared from unsubstituted 5,15-diphenylporphyrin was examined and this exhibited an LD 50 of 2.4 × 10-3 μ M !

This study compared aspects of the functioning of mothers with borderline personality disorder (BPD) to those of mothers without psychiatric disorder using two different conceptualizations of attachment theory. The Adult Attachment Interviews (AAIs) of 32 mothers were classified using both the Main and Goldwyn method (M&G) and the Dynamic-Maturational Model method (DMM). We found that mothers with BPD recalled more danger, reported more negative effects of danger, and gave evidence of more unresolved psychological trauma tied to danger than other mothers. We also found that the DMM classifications discriminated between the two groups of mothers better than the M&G classifications. Using the DMM method, the AAIs of BPD mothers were more complex, extreme, and had more indicators of rapid shifts in arousal than those of other mothers. Representations drawn from the AAI, using either classificatory method, did not match the representations of the mother’s child drawn from the Working Model of the Child Interview; mothers with very anxious DMM classifications were paired with secure-balanced child representations. We propose that the DMM offers greater clinical utility, conceptual coherence, empirical validity, and coder reliability than the M&G.

Borderline personality disorder (BPD) is believed to be frequent among adolescents. While several prospective studies have assessed the use of mental health services among adults who suffer from BPD, few studies have provided adolescent data. This paper presents findings from the first assessment point of the European Research Network on Borderline Personality Disorder (EURNET BPD) study. In this study, we described treatment utilization of 85 adolescents with BPD (M = 16.5 years old). In line with adult findings, patients with BPD reported greater mental healthcare service use (outpatient: 98%; inpatient: 79%) compared to controls. Phenothiazine, a sedative neuroleptic, was the most frequently prescribed treatment. 47% of patients received psychotherapy; one-third of these patients received psychodynamic therapy. For all psychopathological variables, patients who received psychotherapy did not differ from those who did not receive psychotherapy; however, psychotherapy was more frequent among females. These data suggest that psychotherapy may be difficult to access for adolescents suffering from BPD, especially males.

There is little data on the association between Human Leucocyte Antigen (HLA) alleles and Bronchopulmonary Dysplasia (BPD) of the preterm newborn. Our aim was to assess associations between HLA alleles and BPD susceptibility. We studied 156 preterm neonates (82 M/74 F) < 32 weeks gestational age, alive at 36 weeks gestational age. Detailed clinical data were collected. HLA typing was performed by PCR-SSO. HLA allele frequencies where determined by direct counting for BPD and no-BPD groups. Comparison between BPD and no BPD groups was performed usingt-test, χ2test or Fisher exact test and logistic regression as appropriate. Relative risks (RR) and their 95% confidence intervals (95% CI) were also calculated as association measures. We diagnosed 56 (35.9%) neonates with mild BPD and 27 (17%) with moderate/severe BPD. We found a significant association between HLA-DRB1*01 and mild BPD (OR=3.48[1.23–10.2]). The alleles HLA-A*24, -A*68, -B*51,-Cw*07, -Cw*14, -Cw*15 and -DRB1*01 presented a significant association with moderate/severe BPD. When adjusted to gestational age and birth weight HLA-A*68 (OR=5.41[1.46; 20.05]), -B*51 (OR=3.09[1.11; 8.63]) and -Cw*14 (OR=4.94[1.15; 21.25]) were significantly associated with moderate/severe BPD. Conclusion – Our findings suggest an association between HLA-A*68, -B*51 and -C*14 and BPD susceptibility, and that an autoimmune mechanism may be implicated in the pathogenesis of the disease.

Abstract Background: Adolescents with features of borderline personality disorder (BPD) may experience deficits in interpersonal trust; however, a simultaneous comparison of interpersonal trust among adolescents with BPD, other psychiatric disorders, and no psychiatric conditions (healthy controls) has never been conducted. Objective: The aims of this study were to 1) explore differences in interpersonal trust (emotional trust, honesty beliefs, and reliability beliefs) between these three groups, and 2) examine the incremental value of BPD features in association with interpersonal trust over and above internalizing and externalizing. Method: Adolescents (N = 445, 67.9% female, M age = 15.13) recruited from two psychiatric hospitals (psychiatric sample, n = 280) and community organizations (healthy sample, n = 165) completed measures of BPD features, interpersonal trust, and internalizing and externalizing psychopathology. Psychiatric adolescents also completed an interview assessing BPD (n = 83 BPD). ANCOVA and hierarchical linear regression were used for analyses. Results: Emotional trust differed significantly across all three groups, with the lowest level of emotional trust in adolescents with BPD. Reliability was also lower in the two psychiatric groups relative to healthy controls. BPD features were significantly, inversely associated with emotional trust and reliability beliefs when controlling for internalizing and externalizing pathology. Post-hoc analyses testing specificity of the three forms of trust found that lower emotional trust predicted BPD diagnosis over and above the other two forms of trust. Conclusions: Findings highlight emotional trust as a correlate and important target of intervention for adolescents with BPD, and add to knowledge on interpersonal trust deficits for adolescents with psychiatric disorders more broadly.

Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) have attracted significant research interest for supercapacitor applications due to their high-tunable conductivity and their structure’s pore size. In this work, we report a facile one-step hydrothermal method to synthesize nickel-based metal-organic frameworks (MOF) using organic linker 4, 4′-biphenyl dicarboxylic acid (BPDC) for high-performance supercapacitors. The pore size of the Ni-BPDC-MOF nanostructure is tuned through different synthesization temperatures. Among them, the sample synthesized at 180 °C exhibits a nanoplate morphology with a specific surface area of 311.99 m2·g−1, a pore size distribution of 1–40 nm and an average diameter of ~29.2 nm. A high specific capacitance of 488 F·g−1 has been obtained at a current density of 1.0 A·g−1 in a 3 M KOH aqueous electrolyte. The electrode shows reliable cycling stability, with 85% retention after 2000 cycles. The hydrothermal process Ni-BPDC-MOF may provide a simple and efficient method to synthesize high-performance hybrid MOF composites for future electrochemical energy storage applications.

Pulmonary hypertension (PH) and right ventricular function are the focus of cardiovascular effects of bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD). We assessed cardiac indexes reflecting systemic afterload and pulmonary venous back pressure as pathophysiologic factors. Cardiac parameters were measured by conventional echocardiography in 20 preterm infants with severe BPD and compared with those of 10 preterm infants with no BPD and 20 healthy term infants. In infants with severe BPD, PH was noted in 5 (25%) by tricuspid regurgitation Doppler jet ≥2.8 m/s and in 15 (75%) by time to peak velocity/right ventricular ejection time <0.34. Among systemic cardiac indexes, significant impairment of diastolic measures was noted in the BPD group compared with infants with no BPD and term infants. The significance persisted after adjusting for gestational age and birth weight. These included transmitral E/A ratio (1.07 ± 0.07 vs. 0.91 ± 0.04 vs. 0.89 ± 0.09; P < 0.0001), isovolumic relaxation time (68.8 ± 3.9 vs. 58.5 ± 7.8 vs. 54.2 ± 5.7 ms; P < 0.0001), mitral valve stroke volume (4.7 ± 0.7 vs. 5.6 ± 0.6 vs. 5.9 ± 0.1; P = 0.002), and myocardial performance index (0.33 ± 0.05 vs. 0.28 ± 0.01 vs. 0.27 ± 0.05; P = 0.03). Left ventricular output was significantly lower in the BPD cohort (183 ± 45 vs. 189 ± 9 vs. 191 ± 32 mL/kg/min; P = 0.03). Altered systemic (left-sided) cardiac function was noted in infants with BPD, which may lead to pulmonary venous congestion contributing to a continued need for respiratory support.

Communicating online via social media has proven to facilitate disclosure of intimate topics and can therefore be helpful in the development of intimate relationships. However, for youth with borderline personality disorder (BPD) symptoms, it may be more difficult to know when, what, and to whom to disclose (i.e., effective disclosure) in online contacts. The authors examine associations between BPD symptoms, online self-disclosure, and ineffective online self-disclosure (e.g., regretting sharing something online). The sample consisted of 235 clinically referred youth (66.4% female), aged 12-25 years (M = 17.82, SD = 2.96). Structural equation modeling revealed that BPD symptoms were related to higher levels of same- and cross-sex online self-disclosure as well as to more ineffective online self-disclosure. There was no moderation by sex or age. This study suggests that youth with BPD symptoms are at risk for oversharing personal information, which could affect forming and maintaining intimate relationships and increases online risks.

Borderline personality disorder (BPD) is characterized by severe disturbances related to understanding oneself and other people and can be reliably detected and treated in adolescence. In this feasibility study, we aimed to focus on the features of, and changes in, narrative identity throughout the course of Mentalization-Based Treatment in Groups (MBT-G) for adolescents with BPD. Six female patients (M = 15.2, SD = 0.75) joined between 16 and 31 (M = 23.83) MBT g sessions. The narrated events within each session across sessions were coded for themes of agency and communion and the narrated reactions were coded for personality functioning. The patients and their parents also completed several self-report measures before and after therapy. Themes of diminished agency and communion were identified, with communion as the dominating theme. When comparing the patients’ first five sessions with their last five sessions, there was an increase in themes related to agency and decreased in communion. The narrated reactions were dominated by themes related to thwarted self-functioning and primarily identity, although intimacy was also present. Patients improved in terms of self-reported functioning and internalizing and externalizing behavior before and after end of treatment. The importance of narration in BPD (group) therapy is discussed alongside clinical implications.

Metal-organic frameworks are a class of attractive materials for fluorescent sensing. Here, we report the exploration of fluorescent Zn-based amine/azine-functionalized MOF, TMU-17-NH2, ([Zn(NH2-BDC)(4-bpdb)].2DMF; NH2-BDC = amino-1,4-benzenedicarboxylic acid, 4-bpdb = 1,4-bis(4-pyridyl)-2,3-diaza-2,3-butadiene) for highly selective and sensitive detection of Fe3+ in DMF (N,N-dimethylformamide) solution. TMU-17-NH2 shows fast recognition of Fe3+ ions with a response time of <1 min and detection limit of 0.7 µM (40 ppb), and the luminescence is completely quenched in 10−3 M DMF solution of Fe3+. Furthermore, no interferences from 250 μM As3+, Cd2+, Zn2+, Co3+, Ni2+, Cu2+, Pb2+, Mn2+ and Al3+ were found for the detection of Fe3+, which suggests that functionalized TMU-17-NH2 is a promising luminescent probe for selectively sensing iron ions.

AbstractInvestigating etiological processes early in the life span represents an important step toward a better understanding of the development of personality pathology. The current study evaluated the interaction between an individual difference risk factor (i.e., temperament) and a biological risk factor for aggressive behavior (i.e., atypical [larger] rightward hippocampal asymmetry) in predicting the emergence of borderline personality disorder (BPD) and antisocial personality disorder symptoms during early adolescence. The sample consisted of 153 healthy adolescents (M = 12.6 years, SD = 0.4, range = 11.4–13.7) who were selected from a larger sample to maximize variation in temperament. Interactions between four temperament factors (effortful control, negative affectivity, surgency, and affiliativeness), based on the Early Adolescent Temperament Questionnaire—Revised, and volumetric measures of hippocampal asymmetry were examined as cross-sectional predictors of BPD and antisocial personality disorder symptoms. Boys were more likely to have elevated BPD symptoms if they were high on affiliation and had larger rightward hippocampal asymmetry. In boys, low affiliation was a significant predictor of BPD symptoms in the presence of low rightward hippocampal asymmetry. For girls, low effortful control was associated with elevated BPD symptoms in the presence of atypical rightward hippocampal asymmetry. This study builds on previous work reporting significant associations between atypical hippocampal asymmetry and poor behavioral regulation.

Background: Inhibition of frowning via injections of botulinum toxin A (BTX) into the glabellar region has shown beneficial effects in the treatment of major depression. Preliminary research suggests that improvements in the affective domain are not depression-specific, but may also translate to other psychiatric disorders. Aim: This 16-week, single-blind, two-center randomized controlled trial investigated the influence of BTX on clinical symptoms of borderline personality disorder (BPD). Methods: Fifty-four patients with BPD were randomly assigned to treatment with BTX (n = 27) or a minimal acupuncture (ACU) control condition ( n = 27). Clinical outcomes were followed at 2, 4, 6, 8, 12, and 16 weeks. Primary endpoint was the relative score change on the Zanarini Rating Scale for Borderline Personality Disorder (ZAN-BPD) 8 weeks after baseline relative to the control group and adjusted for treatment center. Secondary and additional outcome variables were self-rated borderline symptoms, comorbid symptoms of depression, psychological distress, and clinical global impression. Results: Participants showed significant improvements at the primary efficacy endpoint in both treatment groups (BTX: M = −0.39, SD = 0.39; ACU: M = −0.35, SD = 0.42), but no superior effect of the BTX condition in comparison with the control intervention was found— F(1,5323) = 0.017, p = 0.68). None of the secondary or additional outcomes yielded significant group differences. Side effects were mild and included headache, transient skin or muscle irritations, and dizziness. Conclusion: Evidence regarding the efficacy of BTX for BDP remains limited, and the design of adequate control conditions presents an opportunity for further research. Abstract We report the results of our study on the effect of injection of low-energy thermionic electrons on the suppression of instabilities of the beam-plasma discharge (BPD) type in a beam plasma during the transport of a powerful continuous electron beam generated by a plasma–cathode electron source in the forevacuum range of pressure. As result of thermionic electron injection, the plasma electron temperature decreased to 0.3 eV and the plasma density decreased by an order of magnitude to 1015 m−3. The minimal thermoelectron current required for suppressing the BPD increases with increasing emission current and decreases with increase of the beam accelerating voltage.

ABSTRACT Biphenyl dioxygenase (BPDO) catalyzes the aerobic transformation of biphenyl and various polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs). In three different assays, BPDOB356 from Pandoraea pnomenusa B-356 was a more potent PCB-degrading enzyme than BPDOLB400 from Burkholderia xenovorans LB400 (75% amino acid sequence identity), transforming nine congeners in the following order of preference: 2,3′,4-trichloro ∼ 2,3,4′-trichloro > 3,3′-dichloro > 2,4,4′-trichloro > 4,4′-dichloro ∼ 2,2′-dichloro > 2,6-dichloro > 2,2′,3,3′-tetrachloro ∼ 2,2′,5,5′-tetrachloro. Except for 2,2′,5,5′-tetrachlorobiphenyl, BPDOB356 transformed each congener at a higher rate than BPDOLB400. The assays used either whole cells or purified enzymes and either individual congeners or mixtures of congeners. Product analyses established previously unrecognized BPDOB356 activities, including the 3,4-dihydroxylation of 2,6-dichlorobiphenyl. BPDOLB400 had a greater apparent specificity for biphenyl than BPDOB356 (k cat/K m = 2.4 × 106 ± 0.7 × 106 M−1 s−1 versus k cat/K m = 0.21 × 106 ± 0.04 × 106 M−1 s−1). However, the latter transformed biphenyl at a higher maximal rate (k cat = 4.1 ± 0.2 s−1 versus k cat = 0.4 ± 0.1 s−1). A variant of BPDOLB400 containing four active site residues of BPDOB356 transformed para-substituted congeners better than BPDOLB400. Interestingly, a substitution remote from the active site, A267S, increased the enzyme's preference for meta-substituted congeners. Moreover, this substitution had a greater effect on the kinetics of biphenyl utilization than substitutions in the substrate-binding pocket. In all variants, the degree of coupling between congener depletion and O2 consumption was approximately proportional to congener depletion. At 2.4-Å resolution, the crystal structure of the BPDOB356-2,6-dichlorobiphenyl complex, the first crystal structure of a BPDO-PCB complex, provided additional insight into the reactivity of this isozyme with this congener, as well as into the differences in congener preferences of the BPDOs.

A soluble polyimide (PI), 3,3’5,5’-tetramethyl-4,4’-diamino diphenylbutyltoluene- co-BPDA, was synthesized from 3,3’5,5’-tetramethyl-4,4’-diaminodiphenyl-butyltoluene and BPDA in m-cresol solution. The inherent viscosity of the resulting polyimide was 0.84 dL/g. Polyimide solutions in DMAc, with a concentration ranged from 14wt% to 34wt%, were electrospun into well-formed nanofiber membranes. The electrospinning parameters such as solution concentration, feed rate, applied voltage, and collection distance were optimized in order to reduce fiber diameter and distribution. The effect of LiCl and CTAB (Cetrimonium Bromide) on the elcetrospinning was also investigated. The obtained nanofiber membranes were characterized by SEM, TGA, XRD, and tensile test. With optimized electrospinning parameters the averaged diameter and the distribution of nanofibers could be reduced to 249 nm and 0.047, respectively. For the membranes, the temperature of 5% weight loss in nitrogen was 380°C and 10% at 534°C. The excellent thermal stability makes it could be used as high temperature filter materials.

Background: Despite advances in neonatal intensive care and surgical procedures, perinatal mortality rates for premature infants with congenital heart disease (CHD) remain relatively high.Purpose: We aimed to describe the outcomes of premature infants with critical CHD and identify the risk factors including the new modified version of the Risk Adjustment for Congenital Heart Surgery (M-RACHS) category associated with in-hospital mortality in a Korean tertiary center.Methods: This was a retrospective cohort study of premature infants with critical CHD admitted to the neonatal intensive care unit from January 2005 to December 2016.Results: A total of 78 premature infants were enrolled. The median gestational age (GA) at birth was 34.9 weeks (range, 26.7–36.9 weeks), and the median birth weight was 1.91 kg (range, 0.53–4.38 kg). Surgical or percutaneous intervention was performed in 68 patients with a median GA at birth of 34.7 weeks (range, 26.7–36.8 weeks) and a median birth weight of 1.92 kg (range, 0.53–4.38 kg). The in-hospital survival rate was 76.9% among all enrolled preterm infants and 86.8% among patients who received an intervention. Very low birth weight (VLBW), persistent pulmonary hypertension of the newborn (PPHN), bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD), and M-RACHS category 5 or higher (more complex CHD) were independently associated with in-hospital mortality. For the 68 premature infants undergoing cardiac interventions, independent risk factors for mortality were VLBW, BPD, and CHD complexity. Late preterm infant and age at intervention were not associated with patient survival.Conclusion: For premature infants with critical CHD, VLBW, PPHN, BPD, and M-RACHS category ≥5 were risk factors for mortality. A careful approach to surgical intervention and prenatal care should be taken according to CHD type and neonatal condition.

The aim of this trial was to assess topiramate's efficacy in the long-term therapy for aggression in men with BPD.MethodsThis 18-month follow-up observation, in which the previous patients (topiramate group: n = 22; former placebo group: n = 22) were examined bianually, was carried out.ResultsAccording to the intent-to-treat principle, significant changes on all scales of the STAXI were observed in the subjects treated with topiramate. Additional significant weight loss was observed. All subjects tolerated topiramate relatively well.ConclusionsTopiramate appears to be an effective, relatively safe agent in the long-term treatment of patients with BPD. Mild, non-transient weight loss can be expected.

4039 Background: An association between diabetes mellitus (DM) and pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDA) has long been recognized. While long-standing DM may be a risk factor for developing PDA, new-onset DM may be a manifestation of the cancer. Here we assess the role of an objective and quantifiable measure of glucose intolerance, hemoglobin-A1c (HbA1c), in predicting clinical outcomes in PDA. Methods: HbA1c values were prospectively collected on 656 consecutive patients presenting to the Johns Hopkins Pancreas Multidisciplinary Cancer Clinic from 2009-2012. Patients were diagnosed with benign pancreatic disease (BPD) or biopsy-confirmed resectable (R), borderline/locally advanced (BL), or metastatic (M) PDA. Patients with prior treatment for PDA or a history of DM greater than a 1-year were excluded. Univariate Cox regression analyses and multivariable proportional hazards models were used to identify poor prognostic factors for overall survival. Results: Of 284 patients included, 44 had benign disease, 62 R-PDA, 115 BL-PDA, and 63 M-PDA. Patients with malignant disease (R-, BL-, and M-PDA) collectively had higher HbA1c values on average at presentation than patients with BPD (6.1% vs. 5.6%, p<0.001). There was a trend towards higher HbA1c at presentation in patients with advanced PDA (BL and M) compared to patients with R-PDA (6.2% vs. 5.9%, p=0.100); moreover, the proportion of patients with HbA1c levels in the diabetic range (>6.4%) increased with more advanced stage of disease. Among patients with PDA (n=240), univariate analyses showed HbA1c≥6.5, age≥65, ECOG≥1, CA19-9>90, tumor size >3cm, and advanced stage to be significantly associated with inferior survival (all HR>1, p<0.05). After multivariate analysis with backward elimination, all of the above factors except for tumor size >3cm remained in the model for inferior survival. Conclusions: HbA1c level at presentation appears to correlate with disease stage and, moreover, to predict for survival among all stages of PDA. Patients with PDA have significantly higher HbA1c levels at presentation than patients with BPD. This study highlights the potential utility of HbA1c as a screening tool and prognostic factor.

This paper reports the progress of the thick epitaxy development at Dow Corning. Epiwafers with thickness of 50 – 100 m have been grown on 4° off-axis 76mm 4H SiC substrates. Smooth surface with RMS roughness below 1nm and defect density down to 2 cm-2 are achieved for 80 - 100 m thick epiwafers. Long carrier lifetime of 2 – 4 s are routinely obtained, and low BPD density in the range of 50 down to below 10 cm-2 is confirmed. High voltage JBS diodes have been successfully fabricated on these wafers with thick epitaxial layers.

The treated plasmid, pZ189, carrying a bacterial suppressor tRNA target gene, supF, was allowed 48 h to replicate in the human cells. Progeny plasmids were then rescued, purified, and introduced into bacteria carrying an amber mutation in the beta-galactosidase gene in order to detect those carrying mutations in the supF gene. The frequency of mutants increased in direct proportion to the number of DNA-1-NOP adducts formed per plasmid. At the highest level of adduct formation tested, the frequency of supF mutants was 26 times higher than the background frequency of 1.4 X 10(-4). DNA sequencing of 60 unequivocally independent mutant derived from 1-NOP-treated plasmids indicated that 80% contained a single base substitution, 5% had two base substitutions, 4% had small insertions or deletions (1 or 2 base pairs), and 11% showed a deletion or insertion of 4 or more base pairs. Sequence data from 25 supF mutants derived from untreated plasmids showed that 64% contained deletions of 4 or more base pairs. The majority (83%) of the base substitution in mutants from 1-NOP-treated plasmids were transversions, with 73% of these being G . C --> T . A. Dislocations in highly nitrogen-doped (N > 1×1019 cm-3) low-resistivity ( < 10 mcm) 4H-SiC substrates were investigated by photoluminescence imaging, synchrotron X-ray topography, and defect selective etching using molten KOH. The behavior of dislocations is discussed particularly in terms of their glide motion in the presence of a high concentration of nitrogen. The results indicate that nitrogen impurities up to mid 1019 cm-3 concentration do not show any discernible influence on the glide behavior of basal plane dislocations (BPDs) in 4H-SiC crystals grown by physical vapor transport (PVT) method.

ABSTRACT Mouse Hus1 encodes an evolutionarily conserved DNA damage response protein. In this study we examined how targeted deletion of Hus1 affects cell cycle checkpoint responses to genotoxic stress. Unlike hus1− fission yeast (Schizosaccharomyces pombe) cells, which are defective for the G2/M DNA damage checkpoint, Hus1-null mouse cells did not inappropriately enter mitosis following genotoxin treatment. However, Hus1-deficient cells displayed a striking S-phase DNA damage checkpoint defect. Whereas wild-type cells transiently repressed DNA replication in response to benzo(a)pyrene dihydrodiol epoxide (BPDE), a genotoxin that causes bulky DNA adducts, Hus1-null cells maintained relatively high levels of DNA synthesis following treatment with this agent. However, when treated with DNA strand break-inducing agents such as ionizing radiation (IR), Hus1-deficient cells showed intact S-phase checkpoint responses. Conversely, checkpoint-mediated inhibition of DNA synthesis in response to BPDE did not require NBS1, a component of the IR-responsive S-phase checkpoint pathway. Taken together, these results demonstrate that Hus1 is required specifically for one of two separable mammalian checkpoint pathways that respond to distinct forms of genome damage during S phase.

Exploration of the Dampier Sub-basin on the North West Shelf of Australia commenced with a reconnaissance seismic survey in 1965. In 1969 Madeleine-1, the first well drilled on the Madeleine Trend, encountered water bearing Upper Jurassic sandstones. Following acquisition of a regional grid of modern seismic in 1985 and 1986, and comprehensive hydrocarbon habitat studies, the Wanaea and Cossack prospects were matured updip from Madeleine 1. They were proposed to have improved reservoir development and an oil charge.The Wanaea Oil Field was discovered in 1989 when Wanaea-1 encountered a gross oil column of 103 m in the Upper Jurassic Angel Formation. The well flowed 49° API oil at 5856 BPD (931 kL/d) with a gas-oil ratio of 1036 SCF/STB. Two appraisal wells were drilled in the field in 1990.The Cossack Oil Field was discovered in 1990 when Cossack-1 encountered a gross oil column of 54 m also in the Angel Formation. The oil-water contact is 18 m deeper than in Wanaea-1. Cossack-1 flowed 49° API oil at 7200 BPD (1145 kL/d) with a gas-oil ratio of 98 SCF/STB.The Angel Formation reservoir consists of mass flow sandstones interbedded with bioturbated siltstones. Sandstone porosities average 16 to 17 per cent for both the Wanaea and Cossack Fields. Permeabilities average about 300 mD at Wanaea and about 500 mD at Cossack.An extensive 3-D seismic survey was conducted over the Wanaea and Cossack Fields in 1990. Final reserves calculations await interpretation of this survey, but it is clear that the combined Wanaea and Cossack oil reserve is the largest outside Bass Strait.

Abstract Context: Obesity may be regarded as a low-grade inflammatory state. Objective: The aim of this study was to evaluate changes in pro-inflammatory adipocytokines and the innate immune system, cardiovascular risk, and insulin sensitivity after massive weight loss. Design: This was a longitudinal study. Setting: The study was conducted at Catholic University, Rome. Subjects and Methods: There were 10 normoglucose-tolerant obese women evaluated before and 36 months after bilio-pancreatic diversion (BPD). Glucose sensitivity (M value) was estimated using the euglycemic-hyperinsulinemic clamp. Mannan-binding lectin (MBL), bactericidal/permeability increasing protein (BPI), α-defensins, soluble CD14 receptor (sCD14), C-reactive protein, adiponectin, leptin, visfatin, IL-6, and TNF-α were assayed. Results: After massive weight loss (53% of excess body weight), leptin (P ≤ 0.0001), IL-6 (P ≤ 0.0001), α-defensins (P ≤ 0.001), and C-reactive protein (P ≤ 0.0001) decreased significantly. Adiponectin increased significantly (P ≤ 0.001). Of the nine subjects who lost more than 20% of body mass index, sCD14 (2.87 ± 0.5 to 2.55 ± 0.5; P = 0.016) and visfatin levels (12.20 ± 0.93 to 10.63 ± 1.93 ng/ml; P = 0.045) decreased significantly. No significant changes were observed in TNF-α, BPI, or MBL. Insulin sensitivity more than doubled after BPD (P ≤ 0.0001). sCD14 changes were significantly associated with body mass index (r0 = 0.80; P = 0.003) and M changes (r0 = −0.59; P = 0.03). MBL correlated with insulin sensitivity in obese (r0 = 0.93; P = 0.0001) and post-BPD women (r0 = 0.66; P = 0.038). Adiponectin correlated negatively with cardiovascular risk (r0 = −0.709; P = 0.02) and IL-6 (r0 = −0.634; P = 0.05). Multiple linear regression analysis showed that changes in sCD14 were also significantly related to changes in insulin sensitivity. Conclusions: Surgically induced weight loss is capable of reversing low-grade inflammation, at least partially. The relationships between sCD14, MBL, BPI, and glucose sensitivity, and the role of TNF-α in obesity warrant further investigation.

Abstract Abstract 4965 Soluble interleukin-2-receptor (sIL2R) is a T-cell derived cytokine that induce proliferation of activated T-cells, modulates macrophage function and phenotype and participates in differentiation of B cells. sIL2R levels reflect immune-system activation. and is elevated in HIV-M and may be used to predict esponse to therapy with immunomodulation therapy with BPD.sIL2R has been reported in several malignant diseases with correlation to disease activity. Proinflammatory cytokines IL-6, TNF-alpha, and IL-1b are positively correlated to sIL2R.Plasma cells may produce IL-6 by autocrine mechanism but a paracrine mechanism is involved in IL-6 production in bone marrow stromal cells. Growth of myeloma cells can be induced IL-6. We present a 43 YOF with HIV-M with elevated levels of sIL2R, C-reactive protein (CRP), IgG-kappa,lambda,IgM kappa level with serum free light chain kappa/lambda ratio. Treatment with biaxin,pentoxifylline, and low dose dexamethasone for 12-24 weeks resulted in normal levels of sIL2R, CRP, IgG,IgM and serum free light chain ratios. Conclusion Modulation of sIL2R with BPD in HIV-M patients with elevated proinflammatory cytokines may arrest the disease proliferation by controlling the growth potential IL-6 in both bone marrow plasm cells and peripheral blood mononuclear cells and correlates with the duration of survival. LaRC™-SI (NASA Langley Research Center-Soluble poly Imide) is a wholly aromatic, high-performance thermoplastic with a unique combination of physical, mechanical and adhesive properties. LaRC™-SI is synthesized from equimolar amounts of the dianhydrides 4, 4′-oxydiphthalic anhydride (ODPA) and 3, 3′, 4, 4′-biphenyltetracarboxylic dianhydride (BPDA); 3, 4′-oxydianiline (3, 4′-ODA) and phthalic anhydride (PA) as an endcapping reagent. The most unique property of LaRC™-SI is its initial solubility in conventional high-boiling aprotic solvents. However, when exposed to temperatures above its softening point of 250 °C it becomes insoluble yet retains its melt processability. This allows LaRC™-SI to be solution processed as both a polyamic acid and a polyimide. In addition to this solubility characteristic and high softening point, LaRC™-SI is extremely tough and fracture resistant with G1c and K1c values of 4.6 kJ m−2 and 4.4 MN m−3/2 respectively. As a melt extruded film, LaRC™-SI has been used as a hot melt adhesive to bond titanium and aluminium with lap shear strengths for titanium and cleavage strengths for aluminium exceeding 43 MPa and 16.9 MPa respectively at 23 °C.

Abstract A new BPD-PSI line-type plasma simulator is introduced. The device features two vacuum units: a target unit and an electron gun unit, connected to each other by a water-cooled electron beam transport channel. The Pierce-type electron gun is used to generate stationary or pulsed electron beam, utilized for beam-plasma discharge generation. The plasma electron density can be varied in the range of n e = 1 × 1016 - 1 × 1018 m-3 with electron temperature in the range of T e = 1-20 eV. The ion flux of 1 × 1021 m-2 s-1 and heat fluxes up to 5 MW m-2 are obtained. A set of utilized plasma and plasma-surface interaction diagnostics are described. Five demonstration experiments are presented: 1) high vs low power beam-plasma operation, 2) beam-plasma discharge with/without presence of an external magnetic field, 3) incident ion flux composition analysis, 4) incident ion energy distribution function measurement, 5) in-situ target surface temperature control and in-vacuo thermal desorption spectroscopy measurement. All of the technical features of the setup described in this paper make it a new tool for studying plasma-surface interactions.

From the analysis of current scientific literature are still few studies on the relationship between personality disorders and borderline intellectual functioning, since the latter, without its own specificity, has always been considered as a kind of undefined zone between intellectual functioning medium and intellectual disabilities. Several studies have shown the presence of comorbidity of the personality disorders with BIF, emphasizing a higher frequency of Borderline Personality Disorder. BIF is considered a significant risk factor for the development of a broad spectrum of neuropsychiatric disorders, in particular in our observations ongoing since 2003, it assumes an important weight on the global functioning of patients with personality disorder as we have stated in the intervention SOPSI 2012. In detail, this study focuses on the relationship between BPD and BIF, noting the weight the latter on the social adaptability, job placement and creation of bonds of individuals with Borderline Personality Disorder. Patients included in this study were 52 (40 F and 12 M), of which 27 belonging to the first group had a borderline intellectual functioning in comorbidity with BPD and 25 individuals belonging to the second group with BPD without BIF. The results show that 33% of individuals included in the first group did not find a job working compared to 16% of the second group, showing further falls in attention and concentration, therefore, in the ability to anticipate and generalization, impacting strongly on the degree of adaptation to social life, while there are not significant differences in the ability to create emotional ties between the two groups.Disclosure of interestThe authors have not supplied their declaration of competing interest.

MATERIAL AND METHODS: This study is an analytical study using a cross sectional approach determine fetal growth biometry in the Minangkabau ethnic group. The selected sample was pregnant women who came to check their pregnancy in December 2020 at Fetomaternal clinic Hospital M. Djamil Padang and Network Hospital in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology Faculty of Medicine Andalas University. Bivariate analysis using Pearson correlation test because the data distribution was normally distributed with P value <0,05 and then multivariate analysis using linear regression. RESULTS: Five hundred and twenty pregnant women who came to check at 3rd trimester (28-40 weeks by US). The characteristics of the research subjects were the average age of pregnant women ranging from 21-39 years with the average was 28.49 ± 4.5 years, parity 1 as many as 203 people (46,7%), and the average level of education at senior high school as many as 431 people (82,9%), and there were 123 working pregnant women (42,5%). Based on the Pearson analysis, Correlation between of each variable BPD, HC, AC, FL, and HL to LMP, there is the strongest correlation between LMP and AC, which is r = 0,799 and the weakest correlation between LMP and HL is r = 0,162, for all variables is very significant (p value 0,000). The multivariate analysis with linear regression, there is a significant value that the simultaneous measurement of biometric variables (BPD, HC, AC, FL, HL) on the LMP would be 84.6% more significant. CONCLUSIONS: There is a significant correlation fetal growth between LMP and 3rd trimester ultrasound pregnancy with variable BPD, HC, AC, FL, HL on minangkabau ethnic

Introduction: The pregnancy cannot be dated accurately by clinical evaluation alone. Sonography is a useful and an accurate tool for estimation of the gestational age. Biparietal diameter is one the robust method of the basic biometric parameter used to assess fetal size and age. Aims and objective: The aim of this study was to collect data on craniofacial measurement of fetuses of the different age group by Ultrasonography at RIMS, Ranchi and to correlate its relationship with the different fetal age group. Materials and methods: The study was carried out on 100 pregnant women who gave definite history of their last menstrual period and 100 pregnant women who were not able to give definite history of their last menstrual period, in the tribal population of Jharkhand. The cases were selected from antenatal clinic of out-patients department of obstetrics and gynecology of RIMS, Ranchi. The ultrasonography was done by Dept of Radiology, RIMS, Ranchi. Discussion: In obstetrics the duration of pregnancy is calculated by the first day of the last menstrual period at present study standard variation of gestation age base on L M P when the pregnancy cannot be date accurately alone by clinical evaluation alone. Sonography is accepted as the most useful and accurate tool for estimating gestational age. BPD diameter was measured by ultrasonography and along with clinical findings, average gestational age was determined. Conclusion: Sonography is accepted as the most useful and accurate tool for estimating gestational age in those pregnant women who were not able to give definitive history of last menstrual period. Our study showed that the Growth rate of fetal BPD increases progressively as the fetal age increase in early weeks of pregnancy whereas growth is slow in later weeks of pregnancy, our study also showed that measurement of Biparietal diameter is a useful criterion to predict GA & determining EDD. Introduction: a significant improvement was shown in metabolic control at the early stages after BPD, which was associated with GLP-1 and was regardless of weight loss.Aim: to study the secretion of GLP-1, GIP, insulin and glucagon and their relationship to the parameters of the carbohydrate metabolism among patients with obesity and type 2 diabetes before and 3 months after BPD.Materials and Methods: the check-up involved 22 patients with obesity (BMI 50.1 [41.3; 53.8] kg/m²) and type 2 diabetes. Determined: glucose, HbA1c, insulin, glucagon, GLP-1, GIP.Results: after the surgery for weight loss of 15.8% was showed a reduction of fasting and postprandial glycemia, a reduction of AUCglucose, HbA1c, НОМА-IR and hyperinsulinemia. The secretion of GLP-1 with a peak at 30' (test with a standard breakfast) increased, AUCGLP-1 – to 1.8-fold, the basal secretion of GIP – almost 2-fold and AUCGIP – to 1.7-fold; decreased of a secretion of glucagon with a minimum at 60' and AUCglucagon. A negative correlation was revealed between GIP and glucagon, AUCglucose and AUCglucagon; a positive correlation was revealed between GLP-1 and insulin. The weight loss was accompanied by an inversely proportional increase of GLP-1.Conclusion: More than 90% of the surveyed patients achieved a satisfactory glycemic control as early as 3 months after BPD. The significant improvement of the parameters of the carbohydrate metabolism was associated with elevated levels of GLP-1 and this improvement does not depend of weight loss.
