A healthy lifestyle is the key element for a community that balances the mental and physical states of each individual. Community interaction within the neighbourhood is one of the ways to boost one's mental health while exercising is to promote one's individual physical performance. Cyc-life promotes a new urban lifestyle in which working and health conditions of each community resident are balanced by BLENDING the daily living routine with physical sports, and at the same time reconnecting back with nature. A balanced economic cycle is also an element in the new urban lifestyle. Vertical farming pods provide opportunities for the residents to farm fresh organic products for self-use and for economic purposes.

According to critics such as Bernard Williams, traditional ethical theories render it impossible to lead good and meaningful lives because they emphasize moral duty or the promotion of external values at the expense of the personal commitments that make our lives worth living from our own perspective. Responses to this criticism have not addressed the fundamental question about the proper relationship between a person's commitments to moral values and her commitments to non-moral or personal values. In this article, I suggest that we think about this relationship by reflecting on the way that a prudentially virtuous person who has commitments to both moral and non-moral values would regard these commitments. I argue that people with the virtue of balance do have reasons to act in accordance with their moral commitments, but that whether or not these reasons are overriding depends on the type of commitment in question.

Abstract Optimizing dyadic health is a central goal of dyadic frameworks. Yet, research has focused on interdependent individual health or the transactional nature of health within dyads. Emerging research has explored dyadic health through the lens of congruence and balance. This longitudinal study examined dyadic mental health in 76 couples (M = 67.88 ± 11.54) during the first year of lung cancer. As expected, multilevel modeling found mental and physical health of couples were significantly associated at baseline (p < .05). Congruence in mental health was significantly associated with changes in physical health over time for survivors (p < .05) but not partners, whereas balanced mental health had differential effects on the physical health of survivors and partners (p < .01). Discussion will focus on the implications of congruent versus balanced dyadic health for the couple, evaluation of interventions, and propose ways to define optimal dyadic health.

Psychology since World War II has been largely devoted to repairing weakness and understanding suffering. Towards that end, we have made considerable gains. We have a classification of mental illness that allows international collaboration, and through this collaboration we have developed effective psychotherapeutic or pharmacological treatments for 14 major mental disorders. However, while building a strong science and practice of treating mental illness, we largely forgot about everyday well–being. Is the absence of mental illness and suffering sufficient to let individuals and communities flourish? Were all disabling conditions to disappear, what would make life worth living? Those committed to a science of positive psychology can draw on the effective research methods developed to understand and treat mental illness. Results from a new randomized, placebo–controlled study demonstrate that people are happier and less depressed three months after completing exercises targeting positive emotion. The ultimate goal of positive psychology is to make people happier by understanding and building positive emotion, gratification and meaning. Towards this end, we must supplement what we know about treating illness and repairing damage with knowledge about nurturing well–being in individuals and communities.

An ageing population is accompanied by an increased number of older adults living with HIV. So far, our knowledge regarding the life experiences of older adults living with HIV is still poor and under researched. The purpose of this study is to present new knowledge by interviewing nine Finnish HIV-positive individuals of 50 years of age and older. The data were analysed by inductive content analysis. Living with HIV is shaped by unique personal life experiences. These experiences played an important role on how the interviewees assessed their lives and their future as HIV positive individuals. Most of the participants reacted negatively to their HIV-positive diagnosis. However, throughout time they had found meaning in their lives and had developed a degree of positive attitude towards life and future which was articulated in terms of a good overall balanced life. Since caring is the tenor of the nursing profession, nurses should be able to identify and implement methods for assessing how successfully older adults living with HIV age and intervene in an informed way whenever needed.

Abstract Living alone is a critical health risk factor among older adults. Regular exercise and a balanced diet are important for maintaining an independent and healthy life. However, it can be more difficult for older adults living alone to maintain healthy exercise and dietary habits due to the lack of social support. This was a qualitative descriptive study to explore the life changes that accompany living alone, focusing on exercise and diet and the need to improve the nutrition and physical activity of older adults living alone. Thematic analyses were applied to analyze the qualitative data collected from semistructured in-depth interviews. Fifteen subjects, including 5 men and 10 women, participated in the interviews. The mean age was 77.73 ± 7.37 years, and the mean duration of living alone was 17.73 ± 12.89 years. Six main themes were developed: unavoidable difficulties of living alone (lack of someone to depend on and loneliness), just eating “to not die”, exercise that is good for health but hard to do alone, conflict between maintaining independence and dependence on others, coping with available resources, and resources needed for regular exercise and a balanced diet. Living alone led to poor dietary habits, such as skipping meals or insufficient food intake. Food security should be ensured through the reinforcement of social support, financial assistance, and the operation of public cafeterias. In addition, a tailored group exercise program that can meet the need for social interaction and improve self-efficacy would help older adults living alone maintain regular exercise habits.

The article deals with the peculiarities of psychological and physical health components as the life quality indicators in correlation with the time perspective at the late ontogenesis stage (aged 58–93) in groups of people leading different lifestyles: elderly non-working people who are at home-based social services; elderly non-working people, leading an active lifestyle. It has been established that subjective indicators of life quality is at the rather low level and decreases with age. An active lifestyle, as well as cohabitation living, contributes to keep higher life quality. The prevailing temporal orientations in the general sample are «Future» and «Positive Past». A balanced time perspective is observed in one third of respondents. The Past and the Present are correlated, while the mode of the future is isolated. Active pensioners are more future-oriented then the older people at social services. The age of 64–75 years is the most balanced, when all three aspects of time are actualised and integrated in the personality time perspective. Single or cohabiting living does not affect the personality time perspective. The life quality is correlated with the time perspective: the factors «Hedonistic present», «Fatalistic present» and «Negative past» are mainly related to the psychological component of health and its parameters.

Abstract The association between diet and frailty in older adults may be related to social factors. This study aimed to investigate whether there is an interaction effect between balanced diet and social participation on frailty in older Japanese. Balanced diet was defined as the consumption of more than one meal per day that contained carbohydrates, protein, and fiber. Data were collected from 4,832 community-dwelling older adults aged 65-89 years through self-reported questionnaires (response rate 49.0%). Frailty was measured using the Kihon Checklist developed by the Ministry of Health, Labour, and Welfare. We stratified participants by age (65-74 and 75-89 years) and conducted logistic regression models adjusted for economic status, gender, marital status, living alone, disease, and physical activity. The interaction between dietary diversity and social participation in frailty was also assessed. Results showed that in both age groups, consuming balanced diet was associated with a lower risk of frailty (OR=0.56, 95%CI=0.40–0.79). Lack of social participation was found to be a risk factor for frailty (OR=1.51, 95%CI=1.03–2.21). Furthermore, the interaction between balanced diet and social participation revealed that a combination of lack of social participation and balanced diet was also associated with a lower frailty risk in the 75-89 age group (OR=0.63, 95%CI=0.40–0.99). These findings suggest that balanced diet consumed at least once a day may be beneficial for preventing frailty for older adults, however, social participation should also be taken into consideration for those aged 75-89. This study has some limitations as a cross-sectional study. Longitudinal research is needed.

Introduction: High job demands can cause problems for nurses, increased stress levels, burnout, and even turnover which results in decreased performance. Conditions of work-life balance that are not aligned may reduce work attachments. Objectives: to examine the structural model of the effect of work-life balance on work engagement. Methods: The research participants were 120 nurses, diploma graduates or nurses who were actively working in the field of nursing and living with their families. Data were obtained by using the UWES-9 questionnaire and the Industrial Society's Work-Life. Data processing used the Structural Equation Modelling (SEM) method, namely testing the measurement model with Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) and testing the structural model with SEM methods with the LISREL 8.8.0 program. Results: The structural model produces a work-life balance of 8 valid items, 3 valid items to the vigor dimension, 3 valid items dedication dimension and 2 valid items absorption dimensions. Work-life balance as a predictor has an effect on work attachment but is still weak (γ = 0.29; sig; R2 = 8%). The work-life of nurses is not yet balanced and it is proven that nurses find it difficult to find time to relax, and maintain relationships with friends and relatives. Nurses perceive their work as very meaningful and it is proven by their strong dedication. Conclusions: The structural model has a fit model, that work-life balance is still weak and has not been able to influence work engagement. Nurses work because of their strong dedication to their work.

Streszczenie:
Flowering plants exhibit two principal life-history strategies: annuality (living and reproducing in one year) and perenniality (living more than one year). The advantages of either strategy depend on the relative benefits of immediate reproduction balanced against survivorship and future reproduction. This trade-off means that life-history strategies are associated with particular environments, with annuals being found more often in unpredictable habitats. Annuality and perenniality are the outcome of developmental genetic programs responding to their environment, with perennials being distinguished by their delayed competence to flower and reversion to growth after flowering. Evolutionary transitions between these strategies are frequent and have consequences for mating systems and genome evolution, with perennials being more likely to outcross with higher inbreeding depression and lower rates of molecular evolution. Integrating expectations from life-history theory with knowledge of the developmental genetics of flowering and seasonality is required to understand the mechanisms involved in the evolution of annual and perennial life histories.

Background: Access to exercise programming that addresses the unique needs of women living with and beyond ovarian cancer is limited. Feasible and accessible supportive care programs to enhance physical function and quality of life are needed. We aimed to assess the feasibility of a 12-week virtually delivered exercise program for women living with and beyond ovarian cancer. Methods: BE-BALANCED was a prospective single-arm feasibility pilot study. Women who had completed primary chemotherapy treatment of ovarian cancer within the past year were recruited through oncologist referrals or self-referral. The 12-week group exercise program targeting aerobic capacity, functional strength, balance, and range of motion was conducted virtually twice weekly using Zoom. Feasibility measures were accrual, attendance, adherence, and attrition. Physical function was evaluated using the Short Physical Performance Battery and selected components of the Senior Fitness Test. Results: Fourteen participants enrolled in the study (47% of the accrual target). Feasibility goals for the exercise sessions were met for attendance (84% ± 19%), adherence to virtual sessions (78% ± 19%), and fidelity of group belonging (18% ± 4%), and met for overall attrition (21%). Improvements were observed in gait speed, 30-second bicep curls, 6-minute walk, chair stand, and emotional well-being (P < .05). Participant satisfaction with the program was high (4.4/5). Conclusion: Our findings demonstrated the feasibility of a virtually delivered exercise program for women living with and beyond ovarian cancer, with favorable attendance, adherence, and safety data. The program showed potential in improving physical outcomes and quality of life for participants. However, recruitment was a challenge. Future interventions could consider different approaches to increase recruitment.

The intensity and direction of the living organism’s metabolic processes determine the growth rate, development, nutrients synthesis, as well as the reproductive body function and the biosynthesis of proteins, fats and carbohydrates in the form of feedstuff and raw materials. The higher animals’ productivity, the more intensive are metabolic processes. The living bodies’ metabolism proceeds with a certain speed and at the same time contrariwise, but with accurate coherence and interaction due to the participation of “life regulators”, enzymes, which represent the specific proteins, the activity of which is regulated by hormones, vitamins and various synergistic elements. Chemical elements included in the living organism structure are not synthesized in it but must be originated from feeds and other nutrients. Changes in essential micronutrients supply shall not be studied in isolation from the general bio-geochemical situation. Both excess and deficiency may lead to metabolic disorders involving enzyme systems. Knowledge applied by veterinary specialists about the imbalance of various chemical elements in soil, water and feeds has formed the basis for raising the issue of endemic animal diseases diagnosis and prevention. The feeds inadequacy often leads to undernutrition and the reduction of their value in the stall period, which causes the fatness reduction and, therefore, the decrease in mobility and activity, and the weakness of animals. General inspection and palpation of animals reveal ruffled coat, dry-looking and non-supple skin, and if the lack of nutrients becomes more intense, anemic mucous membranes (in more complicated forms even cyanosis and icterus) are observed.

Ayurveda is a holistic science and emphasizes preserving and promoting the health of healthy individuals besides giving methods for the treatment of various diseases. It is more a 'way of life' and describes methods for promo- tion, prolongation, and maintenance of positive health. In the present era, people are spending most of their time sitting at the workplace i.e., living a sedentary lifestyle. It is very necessary to maintain health and prevent diseas- es as people leading a sedentary lifestyle are more susceptible to lifestyle diseases. Balanced Dosha promotes health and imbalanced Dosha leads to the diseased condition. Moreover, a balanced diet is required by the body to work efficiently. Without a balanced diet, the body is more prone to disease, infection, fatigue, and low perfor- mance. So, health can be maintained by intake of balanced and Tridosha Shamaka diet. The concept of Nitya Prayunjeeta (used daily) AaharaDravya has been given by Aacharya Charaka for the maintenance and promotion of health. “Health for All” is the goal promoted since 1977 by the World Health Organization (WHO). Stresses of modern living and work life have induced several symptoms of psychopathology among people from various walks of life. Consequences of stress affects people psychologically, physiologically and behaviorally which adversely affects their work-life balance. The Sudharshan Kriya Pranayama of the ‘Art of Living’ center at Bengaluru, India is a potent and effective method to counterbalance the effects of stress and enhance wellness. An extremely unique yogic breathing practice is Sudharshan Kriya Yoga which involves various kinds of breathing patterns that alternate between slow and relaxing to quick and stimulating. One hundred senior officers of the Government of India of different Ministries / Departments participated in the experiential learning workshop at the Art of Living centre at Bengaluru for the programme ‘Building Competencies for Personal Excellence’ in 2021. The participants practiced the Sudharshan Kriya Yoga for about two months. The feedback from the officers were collected and the same were analysed. It was seen that due to the practice of Sudharshan Kriya Yoga the heightened flow of energy between the mind and the body led to stress reduction and wellness among the senior government officers. Through the practice of Sudharshan Kriya Yoga the RSA (Respiratory Sinus Arrhythmia) was enhanced by calming down the participants. Other notable impacts of Susharshan Kriya are better sleep quality, trauma reduction and cortisol (stress hormone) regulation in the body. The participants were less reactive to provocation and there were fewer instances of anger outbursts. Cognitive functioning was enhanced which led to a balanced approach to social and interpersonal relationships leading to better coping with occupational stress, greater subjective well-being, increase in wellness and better adaptation to the pressures and stressors of life.

Globalization forms a new geostrategic reality, determines the patterns of development of the modern world, affects the emergence of new value coordinates, transforms social, political, economic and public administration systems, changing living conditions and livelihoods. The purpose of the work is to determine the relationship between socio-economic transformations and the formation of a new quality of life. The article examines the impact of socio-economic transformations on the formation of basic living conditions and livelihood in the system of formation of a new quality of life. Under the transformation in various spheres of public life are considered special changes that determine the qualitative changes in the nature of processes or phenomena. Socio-economic transformations are the result of appropriate transformation processes. External and internal factors that form the environment of socio-economic transformations and have different vectors of influence on ensuring stable and balanced living conditions are identified. Socio-economic transformations are singled out, which under the influence of destructive factors constrain the possibility of providing decent living conditions and the formation of a new quality of life. Causal links between factors and conditions for the formation of a new quality of life have been identified. Based on the identified relationships, the definition of “quality of life” is clarified. Under the quality of life it is proposed to understand the objective consequences of the impact of a set of living conditions and life activities that determine the physical, economic, mental and social well-being of man. The main components of socio-economic transformations are systematized. The basic conditions of life and livelihood are substantiated. The main structural elements of the new quality of life under the conditions of socio-economic transformations are offered. It is concluded that the formation of a new quality of life is the result of the causal process of socio-economic transformations and this necessitates constant diagnostics of the socio-economic environment and assessment of its main parameters and disclosure of the nature of relationships.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to describe the development, implementation and early impact of a national action plan for active and healthy ageing in Scotland. Design/methodology/approach The Joint Improvement Team, NHS Health Scotland, the Scottish Government and the Health and Social Care Alliance Scotland (ALLIANCE) co-produced the action plan with older people from the Scottish Older People’s Assembly. Together they supported partnerships to embed the action plan as an important element of the reshaping care for older people transformation programme in Scotland. Findings A cross-sector improvement network supported health, housing and care partnerships to use a £300 million Change Fund to implement evidence based preventative approaches to enable older people to live well. Older people in Scotland spent over two million days at home than would have been expected based on previous balance of care and impact of ageing. Practical implications Improving the health and wellbeing of older people is not just the responsibility of health and social care services. Enabling older people to live independent, active and fulfilling lives requires coordinated effort that spans national and local government policy areas, mobilises all sectors of society, and involves all health and care disciplines. Success starts with listening to what matters to older people, and working together, and with older people and local communities, to make that a reality. Originality/value This case study from Scotland offers transferable learning for other systems who have an ageing population and an ambitions to enable them to live well in later life.

Oligodendroglioma is a tumor found in the central nervous system, known for its impact on the patient’s overall well-being. This case study is an exceptional case in which the patient has been able to maintain a well-balanced active life after being diagnosed with oligodendroglioma, with the help of physical therapy interventions. The patient was diagnosed with Grade II Oligodendroglioma in 2016 after reporting symptoms including frequent headaches, problems with balance and movement, extreme weakness, even inability to stand. The symptoms eventually led to epileptic seizures which resulted in paresis and numbness in the left side of her body. The tumor was partially removed with the help of surgery, and the remaining tumor was treated with the help of chemotherapy, radiation, and medications. However, physical therapy played a vital part in helping to minimize the impact of heavy doses of medication and to stay active and not lose strength in the left side of her body. The aim of this case study was to publish the impact of physical therapy interventions in leading an active lifestyle after being diagnosed with Oligodendroglioma. This unique case will contribute to all the fields of science that are studying the brain and understanding how it works, cancers especially brain tumors or Oligodendroglioma, and physical therapy. It will also pave the way for further research. Keywords: Oligodendroglioma, physical therapy, paresis, case report.

I. Survey of Transplant TechniquesThe kidney is one of the few organs which today can be successfully transplanted from a living donor to an ailing recipient. A healthy donor can function satisfactorily with a single kidney; therefore the removal of one kidney for transplantation does not significantly endanger the donor's life. However, removal, or even partial removal, of other organs, such as the heart, lungs, or pancreas, will present a serious risk to the health and life of the donor. In addition to organs, skin, bone marrow, blood and other body parts can be transplanted from living donors.A. Kidney TransplantsThe kidneys function to regulate the body's electrolyte and water balance and eliminate various wastes. Severe kidney dysfunction endangers the patient's life, and requires treatment by dialysis or kidney transplant. Up until a decade ago, the life expectancy of patients treated by dialysis exceeded that of patients who underwent kidney transplants. Over the past decade, the life expectancy of patients who have undergone kidney transplants from deceased donors has increased to a point where it is now comparable with the life expectancy of patients on dialysis.

Despite continuity in the desire for sex and partnership, many older adults experience a lack of intimacy in late life. The use of assisted living is a complicating factor for understanding issues of partnership, sex, and intimacy for older adults. Using in-depth interviews with 23 assisted living residents and grounded theory methods, we examined how residents negotiate a lack of intimacy in assisted living. The process of negotiation entailed three factors: desire, barriers, and strategies. Although some residents continued to desire intimacy, there was a marked absence of dating or intimacy in our study sites. Findings highlight unique barriers to acting on desire and the strategies residents used as aligning actions between desire and barriers. This research expands previous studies of sexuality and older adults by examining the complex ways in which they balanced desire and barriers through the use of strategies within the assisted living environment.

Abstract The global population is aging at an increasingly fast pace compared to past generations. Although the magnitudes and rates of aging in the United States and Japan differ, the drastic change in population structure has resulted in common challenges for both countries. One challenge is preparing people and society for living a long life while promoting well-being in old age for everyone. Combating ageism, delivering accurate information about aging, and encouraging people to have a balanced view of the aging process are all important topics for living in an aging society. Therefore, gerontology education and training plays a critical role. In this symposium, we will present examples of current efforts and research findings on aging education and training in both the United States and Japan. The first presenter will discuss their efforts on promoting gerontology education through redesigning communities with interdisciplinary collaboration in Japan. The second presenter will explain gerontology curriculum and degree programs in Japan. The third presenter will introduce an international gerontology education course designed for United States graduate students. The last presenter will report findings from a scoping review on intergenerational activities in higher education. Implications for future gerontology education will also be discussed.

A significant, and probably increasing, proportion of older people are ‘asset rich, income poor’. This raises a number of social policy issues around poverty and living standards in later life. For example, perhaps older people are ‘living poor to die rich’ because they wish to pass on their assets to future generations or because they feel they have an ‘inalienable right’ to their property. Or perhaps they would like to use up their assets but find this difficult, for example, because of concerns around equity release products. This article focuses on attitudes to assets and inheritance, drawing on findings from in-depth interviews and focus groups. The data suggest that people generally take a balanced and pragmatic attitude to their resources. They do not wish to ‘live poor to die rich’ but nor are they keen to spend their resources recklessly as they wish to leave something to their families, while also maintaining a reasonable standard of living in later life. It concludes by suggesting that the current ‘asset-based welfare’ debate should broaden its focus on asset accumulation to consider issues around asset use.

For over a decade now, Latin America has played a leading role in renewing the critique of the notion of western development by ascribing constitutional status to the knowledge and practices of native peoples of the continent. Thus, the Good Living or Living Well (GL/LW) have become alternatives to development as they question the conception of only economic growth, by putting forward a balanced relationship with nature, and redefining exchange relationships on the basis of the reciprocity principle. Hence, in this work, we intend to analyze the constitutional reform processes of Ecuador and Bolivia based on GL/LW as critique to the proposal of the hegemonic notion of development. It is important to highlight the visibility acquired by these alternative ways of organizing community life against an economy of capital accumulation, which purports to be a globally closed and unique option (Álvarez, 2012). Now, after 10 years since the beginnings of these processes, can it be said that these reforms had a significant impact on our society? By virtue of these alternatives to the hegemonic model of production, new fields of research have opened up about the different forms of contradiction between capital-labor.

The Human diet is enriched with young parts of plants (so called “green foods”), which can improve nutrient balance intake in natural way. Wheatgrass (Triticum aestivum) refers to young grass of the common wheat plant, which belongs to Poaceae family. This is the most commonly found herb in India, although its nativity is currently unknown. This plant is believed to have many nutritional values; it has been shown to have anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, anti-carcinogenic, immunomodulatory, laxative, astringent, diuretic, antibacterial and anti-aging properties. Its use in acidity, colitis, kidney malfunctions, atherosclerosis and swelling has been shown to be beneficial. Wheatgrass juice helps in building red blood cells and stimulates healthy tissue cell growth. 100 g of wheatgrass powder is equal to 23 kg of fresh vegetables. Ideally, wheatgrass should be taken about an hour prior to meal. This allows the body to fully metabolize it without competing with other foods, and it may also curb hunger. It is recommended that lot of water (at least a liter) should be consumed with the juice to reap its maximum nutritional benefits. Taking wheatgrass as a supplement in the mid-morning or mid-afternoon is a great time for this "green" energy boost. Keywords: wheatgrass, anti-carcinogenic, detoxification, health.

Abstract I argue that a self-referential sense of humor is positively self-accepting by acknowledging imperfection, abnormality, or average status, without genuinely intending ridicule on oneself. Instead, standards of perfection, normality, and greatness are the implicit targets of ridicule, which can provide a form of bonding among those having this sense of humor, who can then find commonality amongst themselves and relief from the pressure of those exacting standards. This self-accepting sense of humor helps to make life more meaningful by facilitating contentment with imperfection both with respect to oneself and one’s situation. While a sense of humor can certainly be helpful for improving character, a perfectionist argument such as this should be balanced by acknowledgement of the value that can be gained from simply accepting ourselves just as we are.

This research aims to explore and reveal the importance of the influence of self-management and stress management in improving employee performance in companies or agencies. The research method uses a literature review approach, by collecting 15 journal articles from 2017-2023 from Google Scholar. The results of this research reveal the positive impact of self-management in achieving work goals, conflict management, and improving employee quality of life. Apart from that, the concept of stress management is an important key in living a balanced and healthy life in a world full of challenges. Stress is a natural response to pressure and demands routine life, but if not managed carefully, it can have detrimental impacts on a person's physical and mental well-being as well as an important basis for improving the work environment and employee welfare, which can increase productivity and performance. The research contribution can explain that the more stress management increases, the impact it will have on increasing employee performance. For this reason, there needs to be a balance between soft skills and hard skills. This research has limitations, namely the small number of journals reviewed due to the limited number of relevant topics.

The first chapter of Sanggocheonjinron highlighted the concept of living in harmony with the principles and essence of the universe. It emphasized the importance of a balanced diet, coupled with a regular lifestyle, as fundamental factors for achieving health and longevity. Chapter 2 highlighted the significance of harmonious community living as a key element for overall well-being. Chapter 4 further emphasized the importance of living one’s life in accordance with the principles of nature and community living. Numerous investigations into longevity and well-being have been conducted. Notably, an examination of the lifestyle of elderly people living in Blue Zones—regions densely populated with people living beyond 100 years without significant health issues—demonstrated that these people thrive by embracing a sense of purpose, leading simple lives, engaging in natural daily activities, and effectively managing stress. According to the findings, eating a vegetarian diet, avoiding excessive eating and drinking, and cultivating connections within a healthy community and family all helped to maintain health. While genetic factors were acknowledged to contribute to human longevity, constituting approximately 25%, the remaining portion was recognized as being influenced by lifestyle choices. Consequently, the pursuit of a healthy and long life, as advocated in the Hwangjenaegyeong and Blue Zones, emphasized the importance of belonging to a healthy community and cultivating healthy lifestyle habits.

Abstract The purpose of this study is to divide the daily time use of older adults into types, examine the influence factors of each type, and verify the difference in life satisfaction between types. We used a total of six variables, three variables (essential, compulsory, and leisure time use) for weekdays and the same three variables for weekends. We used data from the sixth wave of the Korea Retirement and Income Study (n=3,993). Latent Profile Analysis was used to classify the older adults’ (aged 65 and over) types of daily time use, resulting in a division into three types: essential activity-centered (16%), leisure-centered (26%), and balanced (58%). The weekend and weekday activities of each group did not differ. Compared with the balanced type, the significant factors of the essential activity-centered type were age (p<.01), work status (p<.001), and chronic disease (p<.001). In addition, the significant factors of the leisure-centered type were age (p<.05), gender (p<.05), subjective health (p<.001), work status (p<.001), and chronic disease (p<.001). Life satisfaction was lowest in the essential activity-centered type and highest in the balanced type; differences between the groups were identified (p<.000). Based on the results, we discuss practical interventions and the development of psychosocial programs for older adults. For the essential activity-centered type, living support is required because they spend more time sleeping and eating. In addition, we proposed the preparation of leisure programs applicable to the needs of older adults’ of the leisure-centered type, since their life satisfaction was lower than the balanced type.

The need to maintain proper work life balance is becoming increasingly important; it has motivated several academic research efforts. In the quest for Lagos transformation from a mega city to a smart city, work life balance issues as it has to do with housing, work and urban liveability remains a contemporary issue that calls for keen attention. The rate of population increase in Lagos is not commensurate with the availability and development of social infrastructure, which has caused a number of the workers gainfully employed in Lagos to seek such in nearby state - Ogun State, specifically border towns which includes Ota, Ifo, Mowe, Magboro, Ibafo, Agbara etc. Consequently, such employees face job stress and work-life conflict caused by long working hours, unrelenting traffic, early resumption and late closure at work. This research examined the plausible consequence of work life imbalance measured by job stress and work-life conflict on the social life measured by job satisfaction and wellbeing of such people. A sample of 242 respondents was selected for survey using Yaro Yamane random sampling method & Rao Soft sample estimation method. Primary method of data collection was used. A well-structured questionnaire was administered and interviews were conducted while responses were analysed using product moment correlation and linear regression. Results proved that work life balance has profound impacts on the social life of workers in Lagos Metropolitan borders. This paper recommends that individuals should take active roles in ensuring work life balance; organisations must proactively identify and understand demographic & work related factors; create supportive workplace policies; adopt & implement flexible work strategies and assume the responsibility of reducing/eliminating job stress. In addition, Government should intervene and initiate measures to tackle transportation inadequacies with legislations on provision of work life balance incentives for workers.

Design/methodology/approach In this paper, multivariate regression analysis is used. Findings The analysis shows that men living with a male partner are more satisfied with their WLB than their heterosexual counterparts. No statistically significant difference is found between women who live with a female partner and their heterosexual counterparts, in WLB satisfaction. Work-life segmentation is operationalized by the odds of being at the top levels of the life satisfaction scale without being satisfied with the circumstances of one’s job. Controlling for a wide range of characteristics, working Canadians living with a same-sex partner, regardless of their genders, are found more likely to have segmented their work and life domains than their heterosexual counterparts. Abstract Assisted living (AL), is a long-term care service that provides housing and care for over 800,000 older adults in 30,000 residences. AL culture and operations have been transforming to enhance resident personhood and increase autonomy, however, these practices are balanced with the need to minimize safety issues (e.g., medication errors, infections, falls, and in cases of dementia, elopement and injuries). In this stakeholder-based study, we are translating existing strategies for improving patient safety to AL residences and developing an evidence-based tool for implementing these engagement strategies in AL. This symposium presents the methods and findings from a federally-funded mixed methods study including qualitative interviews with 105 AL residents, staff and family caregivers, and a series of focus groups with an AL stakeholder group to develop a toolkit to improve resident and family engagement in AL safety. The first paper outlines our methodological approach, including our efforts to work with stakeholders throughout the research process. The second paper reports findings from a scoping review of existing tools to support resident and family engagement in the safety of AL. The third paper presents the findings from our interviews with AL residents, families and staff exploring their safety priorities, and how they differ across stakeholder groups. The fourth paper presents the findings from our qualitative interviews exploring the challenges and promising practice to resident and family engagement in AL safety during the COVID-19 pandemic. All four presentations in this symposium illustrate important issues for future practice, policy, and research.

Education is a process of delivering educational material given to educational targets that aim to achieve behavior change. Education on the application of health protocols, the importance of balanced nutrition for children, and a clean and healthy lifestyle is certainly one of the efforts that can be made to break the chain of transmission and transmission of Covid-19 to children. These education providers increase knowledge about clean and healthy living behaviors for children and their families so that children can know what to do to prevent the chain of transmission of Covid-19. Optimization of healthy life in early childhood during the Covid-19 pandemic through education on the application of health protocols, balanced nutrition, and clean and healthy living behavior (PHBS) is carried out targeting early childhood. The educational activities were carried out in stages and the results of the process evaluation were carried out until the end of the activity according to the expected target, that is, early-age children can understand the importance of staying healthy by washing their hands, eating nutritious food and implementing health protocols wherever they are.

Purpose This paper aims to investigate the impact that building design has upon the quality of life for residents of a care home who have dementia. To present a balanced perspective, carers within the care home also participate in the research. Design/methodology/approach A case study methodological approach was adopted using one care home, ten residents and five staff as a sample frame. During interviews conducted, participants were asked semi-structured questions on how building design features impact upon the quality of life of residents. Questions posed focussed upon key design principles that emerged from a detailed review of extant literature. Findings Building design for people with dementia must consider a complex array of features to provide a safe and habitable living space for residents and family members who visit. This living space must also be suitably utilitarian and provide a workable environment for staff. Hence, an appropriate balance between these two competing requirements must be attained, and often a tailor-made solution is required that fits the individual’s level of dementia. Three prominent areas that study participants expressed a desire for were a safe environment; support for wayfinding, orientation and navigation; and access to nature and the outdoors. Originality/value The work reports upon the rarely discussed issue of building design for people with dementia and could be used by policymakers and construction firms to enhance their knowledge capabilities in this area. The research concludes with direction for future research which should seek to provide more evidence-based research vis-a-vis perception enquiry and extend this seminal work to a larger sample of care homes or people with dementia living at home.

I argue that it is wrong deliberately to bring into existence an individual whose life we can reasonably expect will be of very poor quality. The individual's life would on balance be worth living but would nevertheless fall below a certain threshold. Additionally the prospective parents are unable to have any other child who would enjoy a better existence. Against the claims of John Harris and John Robertson I argue that deliberately to conceive such a child would not be to exercise the right to procreate. For this right is internally constrained by the requirement that any resultant child has the reasonable prospect of a minimally decent life.
