A healthy lifestyle is the key element for a community that balances the mental and physical states of each individual. Community interaction within the neighbourhood is one of the ways to boost one's mental health while exercising is to promote one's individual physical performance. Cyc-life promotes a new urban lifestyle in which working and health conditions of each community resident are balanced by BLENDING the daily living routine with physical sports, and at the same time reconnecting back with nature. A balanced economic cycle is also an element in the new urban lifestyle. Vertical farming pods provide opportunities for the residents to farm fresh organic products for self-use and for economic purposes.

According to critics such as Bernard Williams, traditional ethical theories render it impossible to lead good and meaningful lives because they emphasize moral duty or the promotion of external values at the expense of the personal commitments that make our lives worth living from our own perspective. Responses to this criticism have not addressed the fundamental question about the proper relationship between a person's commitments to moral values and her commitments to non-moral or personal values. In this article, I suggest that we think about this relationship by reflecting on the way that a prudentially virtuous person who has commitments to both moral and non-moral values would regard these commitments. I argue that people with the virtue of balance do have reasons to act in accordance with their moral commitments, but that whether or not these reasons are overriding depends on the type of commitment in question.

Streszczenie:
Abstract Optimizing dyadic health is a central goal of dyadic frameworks. Yet, research has focused on interdependent individual health or the transactional nature of health within dyads. Emerging research has explored dyadic health through the lens of congruence and balance. This longitudinal study examined dyadic mental health in 76 couples (M = 67.88 ± 11.54) during the first year of lung cancer. As expected, multilevel modeling found mental and physical health of couples were significantly associated at baseline (p < .05). Congruence in mental health was significantly associated with changes in physical health over time for survivors (p < .05) but not partners, whereas balanced mental health had differential effects on the physical health of survivors and partners (p < .01). Discussion will focus on the implications of congruent versus balanced dyadic health for the couple, evaluation of interventions, and propose ways to define optimal dyadic health.

Psychology since World War II has been largely devoted to repairing weakness and understanding suffering. Towards that end, we have made considerable gains. We have a classification of mental illness that allows international collaboration, and through this collaboration we have developed effective psychotherapeutic or pharmacological treatments for 14 major mental disorders. However, while building a strong science and practice of treating mental illness, we largely forgot about everyday well–being. Is the absence of mental illness and suffering sufficient to let individuals and communities flourish? Were all disabling conditions to disappear, what would make life worth living? Those committed to a science of positive psychology can draw on the effective research methods developed to understand and treat mental illness. Results from a new randomized, placebo–controlled study demonstrate that people are happier and less depressed three months after completing exercises targeting positive emotion. The ultimate goal of positive psychology is to make people happier by understanding and building positive emotion, gratification and meaning. Towards this end, we must supplement what we know about treating illness and repairing damage with knowledge about nurturing well–being in individuals and communities.

An ageing population is accompanied by an increased number of older adults living with HIV. So far, our knowledge regarding the life experiences of older adults living with HIV is still poor and under researched. The purpose of this study is to present new knowledge by interviewing nine Finnish HIV-positive individuals of 50 years of age and older. The data were analysed by inductive content analysis. Living with HIV is shaped by unique personal life experiences. These experiences played an important role on how the interviewees assessed their lives and their future as HIV positive individuals. Most of the participants reacted negatively to their HIV-positive diagnosis. However, throughout time they had found meaning in their lives and had developed a degree of positive attitude towards life and future which was articulated in terms of a good overall balanced life. Since caring is the tenor of the nursing profession, nurses should be able to identify and implement methods for assessing how successfully older adults living with HIV age and intervene in an informed way whenever needed.

Streszczenie:
Abstract Living alone is a critical health risk factor among older adults. Regular exercise and a balanced diet are important for maintaining an independent and healthy life. However, it can be more difficult for older adults living alone to maintain healthy exercise and dietary habits due to the lack of social support. This was a qualitative descriptive study to explore the life changes that accompany living alone, focusing on exercise and diet and the need to improve the nutrition and physical activity of older adults living alone. Thematic analyses were applied to analyze the qualitative data collected from semistructured in-depth interviews. Fifteen subjects, including 5 men and 10 women, participated in the interviews. The mean age was 77.73 ± 7.37 years, and the mean duration of living alone was 17.73 ± 12.89 years. Six main themes were developed: unavoidable difficulties of living alone (lack of someone to depend on and loneliness), just eating “to not die”, exercise that is good for health but hard to do alone, conflict between maintaining independence and dependence on others, coping with available resources, and resources needed for regular exercise and a balanced diet. Living alone led to poor dietary habits, such as skipping meals or insufficient food intake. Food security should be ensured through the reinforcement of social support, financial assistance, and the operation of public cafeterias. In addition, a tailored group exercise program that can meet the need for social interaction and improve self-efficacy would help older adults living alone maintain regular exercise habits.

The article deals with the peculiarities of psychological and physical health components as the life quality indicators in correlation with the time perspective at the late ontogenesis stage (aged 58–93) in groups of people leading different lifestyles: elderly non-working people who are at home-based social services; elderly non-working people, leading an active lifestyle. It has been established that subjective indicators of life quality is at the rather low level and decreases with age. An active lifestyle, as well as cohabitation living, contributes to keep higher life quality. The prevailing temporal orientations in the general sample are «Future» and «Positive Past». A balanced time perspective is observed in one third of respondents. The Past and the Present are correlated, while the mode of the future is isolated. Active pensioners are more future-oriented then the older people at social services. The age of 64–75 years is the most balanced, when all three aspects of time are actualised and integrated in the personality time perspective. Single or cohabiting living does not affect the personality time perspective. The life quality is correlated with the time perspective: the factors «Hedonistic present», «Fatalistic present» and «Negative past» are mainly related to the psychological component of health and its parameters.

This paper critically examines how low-paid workers, who need to work in more than one legitimate job to make ends meet, attempt to reconcile work and life. The concept of work-life articulation is utilised to investigate the experiences, strategies and practicalities of combining multiple employment with domestic and care duties. Based on detailed qualitative research, the findings reveal workers with 2, 3, 4, 5 and even 7 different jobs due to low-pay, limited working hours and employment instability. The study highlights the increasing variability of working hours, together with the dual fragmentation of working time and employment. It identifies unique dimensions of work extensification, as these workers have an amalgamation of jobs dispersed across fragmented, expansive and complex temporalities and spatialities. This research makes explicit the interconnected economic and temporal challenges of low-pay, insufficient hours and precarious employment, which creates significant challenges of juggling multiple jobs with familial responsibilities.

Streszczenie:
One result of substantial demographic and social change in the UK in recent decades has been a marked increase in the proportion of the population that live alone – including amongst the working-age population. Whilst the trend has often been linked to arguments about increased freedom and choice in modern society, and a second demographic transition (Lesthaeghe & vande Kaa, 1986), the possible influence of structures and cultures should not be overlooked, nor the experiences of solo-living individuals assumed to be without problems or constraint. Of particular interest in this thesis is the influence of the modern labour market and organisations which can be ‘greedy’ (Coser, 1974) when it comes to employee time and energy. Whilst there is a considerable body of knowledge on the work-life interface, research has focused almost entirely on employees in family households (Casper et al, 2007a), meaning very little is known about the situation for those who live alone. This thesis is based on the work-life attitudes and experiences of 36 young managers and professionals who live alone, and adopts a critical realist approach to analysing the interplay of structure, culture and agency over time (Archer, 1996). Following the identification of a range of work-life balance issues experienced by participants, and variation in levels of work-life satisfaction on the basis of participant gender and age, two theoretical lenses are used to explore the data. Firstly, distributive justice theory is used to understand variations in participant perceptions of the fairness of work-life balance support allocation in their organisations, and personal sense of entitlement to support. Secondly, broader elements of participant work-life experience are explored via the lens of individualisation theory, as conceptualised by Beck (1992) and Beck & Beck-Gernsheim (2002). The overall thesis is that young solo-living managers and professionals are both enabled and constrained by their structural and cultural environment. Whilst these individuals are in a relatively privileged position when it comes to career progression, they experience a number of constraints to the achievement of work-life balance. Whether participants are satisfied with their work-life experience or dissatisfied, there is little evidence of challenge to the structural/cultural environment – which is explained via the inclusion in a temporally embedded conceptualisation of agency (Emirbayer and Mische, 1998) the issue of risk, an issue that is central to something here termed ‘gendered individualisation’.

Trough previous research we have knowledge about the connection between balance in daily life and the experience of health. The psychological or stressrelated ill health increases despite more people receiving care and treatment. It is therefore a central issue to shed further light on whether we provide the right care based on the perspective of the individuals. The purpose of the study was to describe experiences from adult individuals on sick leave due to psychological or stress related ill health regarding maintaining balance in everyday activities. Data were generated through individual narrative interviews with individuals with psychological or stress related illness, from primary care and analysed using a narrative analysis. The analysis of the data resulted in four themes called strategies for maintaining balance, barriers to balancing strategies to maintaining balance, roles and habits that affects the ability to maintain balance, new experiences that affects the ability to maintain balance. Results show that there is a complexity to maintain balance in daily living and there are many components that effects the ability and conditions to maintain a balance in daily life that promotes health. The results could give a deeper understanding about the need for care through the individuals experience and highlight occupational therapy and the occupational therapist role. This regarding working with the ability to delimit in activity as a step towards developing care and treatment for individuals with psychological or stress related illness. And raise the perspective on the importance of creating sustainability perspective and from socioeconomic gain

Streszczenie:

The thesis is an attempt to define and design a house by utilizing modernized construction technologies.

From a single cell, a man grows up into a complex creature with an independent life. A livable space for a person starts from the motherâ s womb, then moves on to a crib, a full-size bed, a room, and finally a house. We can say, therefore, â a living roomâ originates from an independent life and is created for a person.

Man cannot and does not live alone. Human interactions help develop the spatial relationship among rooms in a house, and among houses in a community. Social relations, such as those found among family, friends and neighbors, define the mental and physical dimensions as they are manifested in the demarcations of rooms, halls and houses. Sadly, modernization seems to have destroyed the human basis for spatial relations, as we no longer can find these attributes in contemporary designs where elevators and stairs have replaced alleys and backyards where neighborhood children once played and housewives enjoyed socializing.

Industrialized processes have allowed us to build more space more quickly, but, unfortunately, these processes have also simultaneously equalized qualities in housing design today. Because of the potential complexity of these questions, I am compelled to focus on a room or a house as the scope of the study. The aim of the thesis is therefore the study of the development of a socially and technically responsive house in the face of growth and change in an industrialized world.

In Part One, I shall start with an analysis of historical precedents and the development of a working concept for the design. Part Two ponders how to use minimum materials and sizes to create maximum spaces and capacity. The final section includes the demonstration of the design process involved in the creation of a future-oriented house.

Streszczenie:
Chronic widespread pain has been described as a major health problem in the Western world, but we know little about the experiences of people who live with this condition. The broad questions explored in this thesis are how people with chronic widespread pain experience, understand and give meaning to their 'condition', and how people with chronic widespread pain attempt to influence or exert control over their pain. The methods employed are located within a qualitative approach, using a 'psychosocial' perspective to explore individuals' experiences in a social context, and an interpretative perspective, to focus on the meanings and interpretations of participants. It also draws on a narrative approach, using the stories told by participants to illustrate the experience of chronic widespread pain in their everyday lives. Data was generated through lifegrid interviews, follow-up interviews, unstructured diaries and diary interviews with eight people with chronic widespread pain. In addition, five family members were interviewed. Findings focus on the experience of living with chronic widespread pain in the different realms in which pain arises, is experienced and managed, namely bodily, social, household, family and biographical. In exploring these areas, a number of themes recur which characterise the experience of living with chronic widespread pain. These themes include uncertainty, which manifests itself on a day-to-day basis and in the longer term; tensions arising in managing chronic widespread pain; the impact of experiencing and managing chronic widespread pain control on self and identity; and the effect of the invisible and contested nature of chronic widespread pain on sufferers' experiences.

Streszczenie:
This article includes three sections relating to the conduct of a piece of research, which aimed to add to the theoretical understanding of psychological distress in ICD (implantable cardioverter defibrillator) recipients. Literature review: The research literature and theories relating to psychological distress in ICD recipients is reviewed. Findings reveal that research in this area is limited, and compromised by significant methodological limitations. Theories advanced to explain psychological distress in ICD recipients are under-developed and lack robustness. Research Report: This report interviews ICD recipients four months after device implantation. None of the participants had received appropriate shock therapy from the device. Their accounts were analysed using a grounded theory method. A core category was identified and termed 'uncertainty and ambiguity'. This highlight the uncertainty that recipients experience in relation to their health. It also refers to the uncertainty as to whether the device represents a 'threat or security', and whether it subsequently signifies a 'second chance or limited life'. Therapeutic interventions are indicated that might address 'threat' and uncertainty, so reducing anxiety and allowing individuals to continue to engage with life in a fulfilling way. Such engagement is crucial to prevent depression and maintain general self-efficacy in ICD recipients. Critical Appraisal: Reflections relating to the conduct of this piece of research are outlined. These include the importance of effective alliances, balancing comprehensive data collection with respect for the interviewee, and the role of supervision and self-reflection in ensuring quality research.

The universal global picture of the world is full of pictures of the world of many nations, related to a common value background. Global values are essentially anthropocentric. They are related to man, his life, security, traditions, faith, rights and freedoms. The picture of the Ukrainian world is affected by it’s psychotype: a peaceful emotional introvert, an individualist who evaluates events and people through the criterion of truth known as "humane and inhumane." Tolerance, which does not accept the extremes of universal love, occupies an important place in the aestheticized picture of the Ukrainian world, because everything must be in harmony and balance. Happiness for Ukrainians is to have their own fenced home, with a farm, with everything living and non-living that is there; to have a carefree life on one's own land; to live in harmony with the demands of one's own nature. Also to adequately perceive oneself and one's own capabilities. Those nations that are unable to adequately assess themselves are unhappy and therefore aggressive. Being aggressive extroverts, thay want to impose their own model of worldview on everyone else. Having experienced more than one stressor in history, Ukrainians came out of various trials and became even more hardened. Key words: happiness, Ukrainians, worldview, psychotype, values

Economic and environmental measures related to the formation of nature reserves as key elements of the ecological network of Ukraine are considered. It is shown that in conditions of prevailing private ownership of land, a significant role is played by the forced alienation of land plots promising for conservation, as well as the establishment of environmental restrictions in land use. At the same time, the needs of the economy in land resources should be balanced with the requirements of environmental protection and biodiversity conservation. The additional benefits of creating conservation areas for the local population, which are associated with the creation of healthier living conditions and improving the quality of life, preventing the degradation of natural resources and reducing their pollution, are emphasized. The essence of spatial organization of the conditions of conservation of biological diversity in Ukraine through the formation of land-use areas of nature reserve fund is determined. An approach to improving the ecological and economic bases of the formation of land use areas of nature reserve fund, in particular, in the ecological network in Ukraine is given.

People are the most important resource of the new era, and the creative economy and happiness are interdependent elements necessary for the balanced development of the economic, social and environmental spheres. By helping to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals, the creative economy influences living standards and provides a sense of happiness. If people are positive and happy, then they are able to produce creative ideas and strive for an active life with an emphasis on achieving goals. For the sake of profitability, the creative sectors of the economy constantly encourage people to be creative, but the ability to generate ideas is unstable, because everything depends on the state of man and the environment in which he lives and works. Therefore, the main task of any country should be to ensure happiness for everyone, which is the basis for the existence of a creative economy. Otherwise, the country will automatically stop its development and begin to degrade rapidly. Human happiness must be not only a key factor in the creative economy for sustainable development, but also a mission for the development of each country and society as a whole. Abstract. The objective assessment of rural multi-functionality is the key to formulating rural development strategies. This paper constructs a rural multi-functional evaluation index system to evaluate the multi-functional values of production, life and ecology of 101 towns in Liaocheng City, Shandong Province. Based on survey data, multi-source spatial data and statistical data, draw a radar map of the multi-functional development model of the town. The results show that: (1) There are significant differences in the multi-functional development of 101 towns in Liaocheng. According to the average value, the order is ecological function (0.3755)>life function (0.2418)>production function (0.1556). Rural areas generally lag behind in terms of production function. (2) Ecological high-value areas are relatively evenly distributed in all districts and counties. High-value production areas are mainly located around Dongchangfu District. High-value areas for living functions are mainly located around the central urban areas of Dong'e County, Chiping District and Dongchangfu District. (3) It can be divided into three types: balanced, compound and dominant. Among the subdivision models, there is still no high-equilibrium model with a higher degree of development. Low-equilibrium and traditional townships account for 52% of the total evaluation objects. According to the evaluation and classification results, the article analyzes the influence of central city radiation effect, economic foundation, cultural atmosphere, etc. on rural multi-functionality. Combining the practice of agricultural land reform and rural asset activation, the article discusses the multi-functional development path of different types of rural development, which provides scientific advice for promoting rural transformation and development and promoting rural revitalization.

Decreased symmetry in walking mechanics is common to many conditions associated with falling, such as muscle weakness, poor balance or flexibility, dizziness or vertigo, confusion, and vision problems [1]. Falls and the risk of falls have a substantial impact on the quality of life with aging. More than one in three adults over 65 years experience falls each year, and in half of these cases the falls are recurrent [2,3]. As patients with asymmetric gait are at a greater risk of falling during activities of daily living such as walking [1], conducting experiments on methods to correct gait asymmetries on this cohort can be potentially dangerous. However, experiments conducted with healthy patients that have an induced gait asymmetry during walking would minimize the risk to the unhealthy population while still allowing the researcher to test a subject with a gait asymmetry.

Streszczenie:
Forest ecosystems are an important component of the global carbon cycle. Changes in the forest carbon cycle were determined by considering the biological structures at the leaf and stand level. However, there is no consensus on the nature of productivity at the individual tree scale. The mass growth rate of trees, and thus carbon deposition, differs depending on the size and age of the trees. In this study, the role of old monumental trees, which provide a wide variety of ecological functions and environmental benefits, in carbon storage was investigated. Because nowadays, the importance of monumental trees in carbon sequestration and protection of biological diversity in forest management has been better understood and accordingly, monumental old trees have become a significant research subject. Although monumental trees make up a small proportion of the number of stems in a given stand or vegetation, they contribute greatly to carbon biomass and help reduce global warming. Monument trees have special structures that allow long-term carbon accumulation to be sustained. Features such as slow growth, stress tolerances, mosaic structure, phenotypic plasticity, and rejuvenation potential allow for sustained age-related increases in growth, allowing for long-term carbon accumulation. In addition, changes in available resources due to global warming may be an indicator of increases in the biomass of these trees. However, these issues are still under discussion. The slow but continuous growth abilities of these trees in order to achieve longevity contribute significantly to the total carbon stock and wood production. In addition, when these trees are evaluated at the stand scale, they also make a significant contribution in terms of annual carbon sequestration. Monument trees are not just aging carbon stores. They are unique beings that can hold large amounts of carbon compared to young trees. Depending on the growth and development status, the carbon sequestration capacities show a high increase, although disproportionately. In some forest types, the largest and oldest trees continue to accumulate large amounts of biomass even though they are at the end of their natural life stages. On the other hand, there are many different opinions. These views are generally based on an assumption that older individuals have reduced biomass accumulation. Therefore, it is argued that younger trees can sequester more carbon. In line with the same view, there is a widespread opinion that carbon accumulation obtained by photosynthesis is lost by respiration due to stand development in old forests. This situation suggested that old forests are negligible as carbon sinks. There are studies showing that old forests can continue to accumulate carbon contrary to the long held view that they are carbon neutral. Numerous hypotheses have been developed to explain age- and size-related changes in biomass. In this context, the change in biomass; It has been attributed to the changing balance between photosynthesis and respiration, increased hydraulic resistance, decreased nutrient supply, differences in the access rates of resources necessary for growth, and genetic changes due to meristem age. However, these hypotheses expressing the change in growth may not be consistent as they vary depending on the species, vegetation period and growing environment. This situation falls short of explaining the physiological basis of the changes in the biomass size of these trees. The fact that the ecological role of these trees, which are rare in the world and disappear for various reasons, cannot be fulfilled by any other living thing, requires increasing the studies on these trees. In this context, when the average annual increase in diameter of a 2 m-diameter Oriental beech (Fagus orientalis) tree is assumed to be 0.5 cm, its annual increase is calculated as 0.182 m3. The fact that this value is not to be underestimated shows that these trees can be considered as carbon storage areas. Therefore, the role of monumental trees in carbon storage should be re-evaluated.

Streszczenie:
The U.S. population is aging rapidly. As people get older, they increasingly face issues such as increased susceptibility to injuries and the need to be assisted with many day-to-day activities. Older adults have the opportunity to opt-in to live in an older adult community (OAC) based on their needs and capabilities. This study comprehensively reviews existing governing development regulations and design criteria related to the older adults’ communities, conducts surveys among people involved with some of these communities in California, and recommends improvements to community design for active living and tiered living communities. This study proposes a new scoring system to evaluate the overall life-space mobility of OACs and the surrounding areas. For each of the ten communities within California, the area's Active Mobility Infrastructure (AMI), both inside and outside, and Permeability (PERM) are assessed. Furthermore, the study aims to comprehend how residents feel about the available facilities and how they are utilized through a survey that includes questions regarding how frequently residents partake in active transportation within and outside their communities and assesses residents’ financial and educational standings. Using Welch’s T-Test, Pearson’s Correlation Coefficient, and a Multinomial Logit Regression model, this study addresses three questions: (1) Are there any statistically significant differences in the transportation connection qualities within and surrounding the older adult communities perceived by their residents? (2) Are there strong correlations between the quality of transport connections and the walking frequency of the residents? (3) What are the main influential factors of walking frequency? The findings from this research can aid transportation professionals in improving the governing development regulations and associated design criteria for better person-environment fit in older living communities.

The paper finds that satisfaction with various public goods and services at the neighborhood level play a minor role in the overall reported well-being of individuals and in the satisfaction of life domains, such as leisure, social life, family, health, housing, neighborhood economic situation and work. This is in spite of significant disparities in a wide range of indicators among those living in different areas of the city. The results further suggest that differences in overall happiness and in domain satisfaction are mostly due to differences in individual outcomes like education, health, labor situation and housing quality.
