Pełny tekst źródłaAround 1930, while having been expelled from the Italian Communist Party (of which he was a co-founder) and suffering from consumption, Ignazio Silone decides to write his first novel : Fontamara. Exiled in Switzerland as an Antifascist, he tells of the cafoni's misadventures, presenting like direct testimonies the stories of these humiliated and oppressed peasants, victims of triumphant Fascism. Our work aims to show that the first novel by this author from the Abruzzi is only the continuation of his fight, no more through political articles, too incomprehensible to people who can hardly read, but through an account that skillfully mixes genres, while being written in a simple and clear style. Fontamara is, to us, an example of a truly commited novel. Our study is based on an analysis set of themes and stylistics and in comparison with other contemporary commited novels, which have known a true literary success
Sais, Maria Luisa. "L'opera narrativa di Melania G. Mazzucco : le forme dell'impegno". Electronic Thesis or Diss., Paris 10, 2024. http://www.theses.fr/2024PA100025.
Pełny tekst źródłaThis research project focuses on the work of the contemporary Italian writer Melania Mazzucco. While memory, the role of women and social criticism are the most studied themes in her works, the main thread running through our research is the concept of commitment. This is a new critical perspective, in which impegno constitutes a kind of 'macro-category' encompassing all the many themes in the writer's output that have been analysed by critics.Mazzucco's commitment, which is evident in his literary output, consists of a marked interest in social issues, in caring for the oppressed and marginalised in society. It’s in this context that women play a very important role, as they are always the protagonists of his novels: they are often eccentric, dissatisfied women, perpetually in search of their own place in the world and their own identity. In short, this is a particular form of civic commitment linked to women's issues, and it develops mainly in two directions, which will form the second and third parts of our thesis: the female genealogies that Mazzucco reconstructs in his historical novels, with the intention of giving a life, a voice and a history to female figures from the past who really existed and who can be a source of inspiration for women today; the representation of contemporary Italy through female figures who highlight issues such as sexism, the migratory phenomenon, new family models. Women thus become a vehicle for addressing issues that affect both sexes equally. In our thesis, therefore, we have examined the presence of forms of commitment in Mazzucco's work by studying its manifestations in the two directions described above, in order to answer some fundamental questions: in the debate on literary commitment, which is very fertile in Italy today, how can we situate Mazzucco's work? In what forms and on what themes does his commitment express itself? Is it effective? Is it appreciated? Our thesis is divided into three parts. In the first part, the aim is to situate Mazzucco in the Italian literary context, from the 1980s – the period of her formation – to the present day, in order to highlight influences, legacies and gaps. In the second part, we propose a cross-analysis of two novels, which are both historical biographies of women artists forgotten by history: La lunga attesa dell'angelo, which tells the life story of Marietta Tintoretto, the famous painter's favourite daughter who was encouraged by her father to exploit her talents despite the ban on women being painters; and L'Architettrice, which tells the story of Plautilla Bricci, the first woman architect in modern history, who was also the daughter of an artist. We wanted to understand why Mazzucco embarked on this recovery operation, and who these women of the past were whose life experience she wanted to pass on. My aim is to understand why Mazzucco embarks on this operation of recovery, who these women of the past are whose life experience she wants to pass on, and how she wants to pass it on.The third and final part of the thesis is devoted to the study of four novels set in the present day: Un giorno perfetto, Limbo, Sei come sei, Io sono con te. Storia di Brigitte. These books no longer set out to re-evaluate extraordinary women of the past in order to reintegrate them into Italian artistic and cultural history. Instead, they tell the ordinary stories of women in Italy today, struggling with problems of violence, discrimination and marginality within the family and/or society
Goubali, Talon Odile. "Littérature engagée : Une nouvelle perspective sur la guerre civile au Nigéria (1967-1970)". Thesis, Cergy-Pontoise, 2018. http://www.theses.fr/2018CERG0892/document.
Pełny tekst źródłaThe theme of the Nigerian civil war which lasted from 1967 to 1970, also called the Biafra war remains one of the major theme of the nigerian literature. The events that led to the war after the country’s independance point to a post-colonial period where national building is still worked up on along ethnic and religious lines. In 1970, the end of the conflict starts a new era still affected by all the issues that led to the war still visible in the different regimes leading the federation. Moreover, the conflict became a taboo topic that needed to be erased from individual as well as the nigerian collective memory. After the first wave of writers mainly from Igbo descent who wrote about the war such as Chukwuemeka Ike with Sunset at Dawn (1979), Buchi Emecheta (1983), Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie takes up the theme of the war unapologetically. Her way of writing the war ultimately wants to be the therapeutical and inclusive for all nigerians. This study analyzes the Biafran war through the prism of Mammy Water, the water goddess in the Igbo cosmology. Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie belongs to the Igbo community

Pełny tekst źródłaThis research deals with the study of postmodern narrative literature in Italy. It analyses its reassessment of certain narrative genres such as the "Bildungsroman", the historical novel, the detective novel and the short story, and explores some postmodern texts parodying Italian models from the XIXth and the XXth century. My work is composed of three parts. My aim was first to define the terms of my research and to establish some theoretical principles concerning the notions of postmodernism, literary genres and parodies, as a ground for the reading of the authors included in my corpus (Benni, Folgore, Macchiavelli, Manganelli and Vassalli). Secondly, I have analysed instances of modernism and postmodernism in my corpus and their structural differences. Thirdly, I have examined the different forms of postmodernism, and endeavoured to understand the aesthetic, philosophical and moral strategies which have led to postmodern reclassification

Pełny tekst źródłaThis study consists in a wide, comprehensive overview of the usages of the poetic form of the sonnet during the Second World War in France, Germany, Great Britain and Italy. Such a process aims at gathering close readings of sonnets, in order to highlight the mechanisms of a blooming form in the midst of a dürftiger Zeit. Many poets resort indeed to the sonnet in order to give a frame to a singular or collective experience of the chaos unleashed throughout Europe. The way these recourses to the sonnet interact with the role of poetry in a time of wide reception and collective crisis will be scrutinized in the light of political commitment, religious or ideological biases and the questioning of the former foundations of Western European culture, all of which can interfere in poetry’s proper motives. This work’s proposal is that the sonnet can be used as an ordered form, either to set a demiurgic stand in front of the chaotic situation of the continent, or so as to accept it. Neither poetic stances do necessarily lead to a disordering of the form itself ; however, both conservative and rejuvenating usages of the sonnet have in common the ability to deeply question poetry’s relation to the world

Pełny tekst źródłaThis thesis examines the abrupt change in Juan Goytisolo's literary commitment from 1964 and his early dogmatism until 1970, when, in the novel Don Julián, he culminates the literary process of destruction and denunciation of myths, values, schemes, words and literary automatism, as well as the solid and consistent analysis of the sacred and nationalist myths of Spain that he develops in his historical and literary critical essays of that period. From the constant contrast between Goytisolo's words and his influences, we have tried to situate the writer in his cultural, political and literary context, divided between the influence of his expatriation in France, his links with Latin America and its most avant-garde and peripheral writers, and his personal, political and dramatic positions towards Spain. In the broader context of the transformations and fluctuations that both "myth" and "commitment" will undergo in the twentieth century, Goytisolo chooses to place "myth" and its multiple and ambivalent definitions at the centre of his new literary and political commitment

Pełny tekst źródłaThe present research work, devoted to the critical work of Edoardo Sanguineti, focuses mainly on the definition of “Italian literary canon of the twentieth century” formulated by Sanguineti, and on the relations between this Italian poet and literary critic and the avant-garde poetics of the last century, in relation to the question of the “sublime” in poetry, or rather of its overthrow according to a theme particularly dear to this politically engaged writer and essayist, namely that of criticism of bourgeois society. More specifically, we examine the central role of the first avant-garde of the twentieth century in Sanguineti's critical work, on which he concentrated his studies and reflections with a view to bringing out the movements and the authors who, at his opinion, have contributed the most to renew the poetic language at the turn of the XIXth and XXth centuries. In an exegetical landscape so varied, eclectic, labyrinthine, in many ways broken, constructed by accumulation, without single direction, but multiple and allusive, like that of Sanguineti, the formal experimentation and the content of avant-garde movements between the two centuries represent a continuous and constant interest, especially in essays published in the late Sixties and in the Seventies

Pełny tekst źródłaBeing periodicals a hybrid and fluid object, whose essential particularities are periodicity and the relationship with historical time, as well as being the polyphonic results of a collective creation, how would the study of the reception of a foreign literature in periodicals allow to overcome the distinctions in approaches between the aesthetics of reception and the history of reception, and between the notions of critical reception and creative reception? My research focuses on this question through the analysis of a heterogeneous corpus of thirty Italian literary and politicalliterary periodicals. Building on the notions of “transfer” and “networks” and by crossing quantitative and qualitative approaches in the analysis of French texts, translations and criticism edited in the reviews, my research aims at identifying reception’s places and modalities, its evolutions and invariants after World War II. The interdisciplinary point of view adopted, focusing on the phenomenon’s many aspects, takes a new look on the intermingled histories of French and Italian literature, as well as on the periodicals’ activity and forms of literary criticism. By questioning the mechanisms through which periodicals adapt foreign literature, I aim at surveying the relationships between the reception of literary works, the history of a national literary field and the extraliterary factors (history, politics, ideologies…)

Pełny tekst źródłaConcrete, visual and sound poetry, as well as experimental radio plays, appearing in the early 1950s in Germany, Switzerland and Austria specifically, have until now been perceived as formal games with language, sparing their authors from taking any political position with regards to reality. Given this narrow understanding of the sartrian concept of “engaged literature”, experimental poetry hence appeared as “disengaged.” And yet, authors insist on the deconstruction of traditional poetry, of linguistic norms and of the Occidental vision of culture. As a consequence, shouldn’t we also understand experimental literary forms as political in the sense that they shatter our traditional vision and experience of the world? The distance taken from reality leads to what Rancière calls “political subjectivity”, by which he means the emancipation of the individual from a fixed social identity through news ways of saying and thinking. Analyzing the political intention inherent to specific poetical choices, this study offers a poetic approach of literary political engagement

Pełny tekst źródłaSince feminism emerged in the seventies, women writers have occupied an increasingly important place in the Italian literary panorama. Among the most dealt with subjects, those of the mother and motherhood have been of constant interest. Far from reproducing the usual stereotype of the Italian mamma, women writers have contributed to a progressive deconstruction of the myths inherent to that central figure of the culture and society. The seventies were characterized by the refusal of motherhood as a natural vocation of women, in connection with the feminist claims to own and control their own bodies, (abortion right, development of contraception, revision of the family law). In the eighties and until the middle of the nineties, the theme of the mother-daughter relationship imposed itself as a rehabilitation of the mothers of the past. The autobiography asserted itself at that stage under other forms. Since the middle of the nineties and until today, the new generation of women writers has tended to turn the mother of the narrative into a tormented, maladapted and unstable woman, even a monstrous being who fails to play her role, and puts her children’s lives in danger. This might be the reason why some heroines actually make the choice not to become mothers. Among the women writers studied: Dacia Maraini, Carla Cerati, Giuliana Ferri, Gina Lagorio, Francesca Duranti, Francesca Sanvitale, Fausta Cialente, Elena Ferrante, Simona Vinci, Letizia Muratori, Alina Marazzi, Cristina Comencini

Pełny tekst źródłaThis thesis focuses on the cultural exchanges between France and Italy in the fields of literary translation and publishing at the beginning of the 21st century. Its main goal is to study the various stages that precede, accompany and follow the publication of a work of French literature in Italy. Having placed our subject in the context of the main historical relations between the two countries in the field of literature, our analysis concentrates on three key moments: the choice of book, its translation and finally, its publication and reception. At the centre of our analysis is the knowledge that the tastes, canons, literary traditions and cultures of the two countries undoubtedly affect the reception of a work and the expectations of readers and critics. We will therefore take into consideration the role of editorial strategies throughout this process from the purchase of the copyright to paratextual decisions, i.e. the methods used to arouse readers’ interest or supply information. We will also examine the figure of the translator, the “driving force” in the text’s transition, as it is often their choice of language and style that provides the key to our understanding of it.Given that the publication and fortune of a literary work in a foreign country are the result of a complex process and a stratified accumulation of exchanges, stereotypes and multiple operations, our research has adopted analytical methods from a wide range of fields and applied them to a selection of novels published in Italy over the last ten years
Labadie, Aurore. "Le roman d'entreprise français depuis les années 1980. Thierry Beinstingel, François Bon, Nicole Caligaris, Yves Pagès". Thesis, Sorbonne Paris Cité, 2015. http://www.theses.fr/2015USPCA146.
Pełny tekst źródłaThe point of this thesis is to study the representation of the corporation’s theme in the French contemporary literature, through a panoramic corpus of novels published since the 80’s. It gives a very specific place to works from François Bon, Thierry Beinstingel, Nicole Caligaris and Élisabeth Filhol, significant works representative of this quixotic redirection, which is about to become a sub category on its own. Featuring recent ongoing changes in linguistics, management, organization and ideology in big corporations, those novels highlight various related issues (socio-economic, ethic, anthropological) and through the process, gain a critical potential. To think about those transformations (meaning « thinking » as much as « reflecting ») the most innovative novelists inspire themselves from the heuristic capacity of a novel : the representation of those mutations will turn into formal metamorphosis distancing themselves from naturalist and realistic aesthetics. Committed to put this novel movement back into the literature history which goes back to Chrétien de Troyes, this thesis intends to show how Corporate novels, rebuilt by François Bon and Leslie Kaplan, are part of a larger movement which means to inject political engagement in literature. Using human sciences to think about the world, it offers new readings settled in real life, while questioning literature commitment
Chorfa, Amina. "La lutte contre l’oubli dans la littérature syrienne de résistance : étude des romans Ṭiflat al-samāʾ, Ṣalṣāl et Lahā marāyā de Samar Yazbek (Perspective sociocritique)". Thesis, Université de Lorraine, 2020. http://docnum.univ-lorraine.fr/ulprive/DDOC_T_2020_0016_CHORFA.pdf.
Pełny tekst źródłaThe literary commitment resonates as the ideological guideline in Samar Yazbek’s novel. It appears through the study of her three novels: Ṭiflat al-samāʾ (Girl of heaven, 2002), Ṣalṣāl (Clay, 2005) and Lahā marāyā (In her mirrors, 2010), that one of the author’s essential issue deals with the question of the consequences of cultural, religious and socio-political traditions on society and individuals. Her work raises the question: what extent the will to preserve traditions or free from all the rules can compromise the social system and, beyond that, whether any liberation necessarily imply a cultural and religious breaking? This is why, in our thesis, we will examine this corpus to determine the Yazbekian position on the process of social and political emancipation of Syrians as well as their perception of the notion of cultural, religious and political heritage. In order to do this, we will study Samar Yazbek’s novels through a sociocritical perspective - revisited throughout the complex thought of Edgar Morin - supported by the transtextuality, the narratology and the semiotic method. Thus, our goal will be to shed light on the processes of perpetuation or rupture of tradition among the Syrians of the “contemporary extreme”, articulating our double interrogation around the notions of freedom, modernity, political struggle and resistance to social oppression
Tosatti, Ada. "L’ extrémisme littéraire et politique pendant les années soixante-dix. Le cas exemplaire de Nanni Balestrini". Thesis, Paris 3, 2011. http://www.theses.fr/2011PA030045.
Pełny tekst źródłaThis work studies the relationship between political commitment and experimentalism in literature using the conceptual tool of extremism. It looks at how the revolutionary aspirations of the social political movements of the extreme left interconnected with the quest for a renewed liaison between literature and reality. A fitting example is the poet and novelist Nanni Balestrini [1935-] who was part of the new avant-garde movement during the 1960s and of the extreme left movements in the years that followed. His writings of that period hold a richness that has not yet been fully tapped. His use of language demonstrates his commitment to the practice of subversive writing as well as his political motivation. When the evolution of these works is followed, the emergence of an “interior working class” literature is observed. An example is the Vogliamo tutto [1971] novel, which foreshadows experiences from the “savage literature”. In addi! tion, works such as Vivere a Milano [1976] and La violenza illustrata [1976] exemplify heuristic and counter-information functions of the literature, while the analysis of Ballate della signorina Richmond shows how Balestrini’s poetics and those of the 1977 political movement significantly influenced each other. The subversion of the language and the production of new forms of communication appear thus to be at the core of political beliefs and reflections
